1:1147
從石榴內部的隔膜,也可以找到另一層默想的意義;
and it is possible also to find another contemplation from the partitions within it;
1:1148
因為在得救的人中,我們看見有許多的等次;
for among those who are being saved we see many orders;
1:1149
有守童貞者的一等,有守節制者的一等,另有肩負婚姻之軛者的一等,有為財富所環繞者的,另有與貧窮同住者的一等;
for one is the order of those who keep virginity, and another of those who practise continence, and another of those who draw the yoke of marriage, and of those who are surrounded with wealth, and another of those who live with poverty;
1:1150
another of servants who love godliness, and another of masters who rule lawfully.
1:1151
因此石榴也彷彿有某些分隔的牆,將子粒分成一群一群的;
The pomegranate, therefore, has as it were certain dividing walls, separating the grains into certain companies;
1:1152
為此緣故,祂將新婦園中所栽的比作石榴園;
for this reason he likens the bride's shoots to an orchard of pomegranates;
1:1153
因為祂首先驚嘆她愛的果子,並說她在美德的其他各樣形式上也繁茂豐盛;
for first he marvels at her fruit of love, and says that she abounds also in the other forms of virtue;
1:1154
'With the fruit of choice tree-crops.' Then he goes through these in detail according to kind.
1:1155
'For cypress-flowers with spikenards.' Now cypress is a kind of tree, from which a warm oil is prepared.
1:1156
And spikenard is a fragrant aromatic, from which again an oil of the same name is made, itself also warm, and suitable for the healing of bodies.
1:1157
祂又說這園中也有番紅花;
But he says the orchard has saffron also;
1:1158
因為我們所需要的不僅是那些溫暖我們、在我們裡面燃起對神之愛的事物,也需要那些冷卻放縱情慾的事物;
for we have need not only of the things that warm us and kindle in us the love of God, but also of the things that cool the unbridled desires;
1:1159
for saffron is among the things that cool.
1:1160
'And calamus,' he says, 'and cinnamon.' These too are kinds of spices, but are to be understood figuratively.
1:1161
『我的舌頭是快手文士的筆;』而那芬芳的菖蒲乃是馨香的;
'My tongue is the pen of a swift-writing scribe;' and the aromatic calamus is fragrant;
1:1162
因為那些敬虔教師的舌頭確是滿有各樣的馨香之氣;
for indeed the tongue of the teachers of godliness is filled with all sweet fragrance;
1:1163
and joined to the calamus is the cinnamon, which under the old law was offered to God, that we may learn that the writings concerning God are both praiseworthy and fragrant, and likened to the aforementioned sweet spices.
1:1164
'With all trees of Lebanon.' 'For she has,' he says, 'also the virtue that lives according to the law, not that according to the letter, but that according to the spirit;'
1:1165
for we have often been taught that by Lebanon Jerusalem is signified.
1:1166
『她也有沒藥、沉香與一切上等的香料。』這乃是指眾情慾的治死;
'And she has also myrrh and aloes with all the chief spices.' That is to say, the mortification of the passions;
1:1167
因為沒藥乃是屬於死人所用的;
for myrrh is proper to the dead;
1:1168
也指那試煉的苦楚;
and also the bitterness of trials;
1:1169
總而言之,她擁有一切上等的香料,不是次等的,也不是三等的,乃是頭等上好的;
and, in a word, she has all the chief spices, not the second, nor the third, but the chief;
1:1170
for to the perfect belong things that are perfect.
1:1171
『她也有泉源,並有活水的井,從黎巴嫩奔流而下。』因為她所有的,不僅是那明明流露的福音教訓,也有律法的井,就是活水的井,其中的水泉雖然隱藏,卻奔流而發出響聲,並從黎巴嫩傾流出來;因為律法的體制在耶路撒冷興盛,這耶路撒冷按預表就稱為黎巴嫩;
'And she has also a fountain, and a well of living water, and it rushing down from Lebanon.' For she has not only the evangelical teaching flowing forth openly, but also the well of the law, which is a well of living water, having its streams hidden indeed, yet rushing and producing a sound, and poured forth from Lebanon; for in Jerusalem the legal polity flourished, which is figuratively named Lebanon;
1:1172
這井也歸給了主的新婦,就是教會;
and this well too passed over to the Lord's bride, the Church;
1:1173
and it is hidden, yet borne along with a rushing sound and watering the paradise of the Church.
1:1174
The bride, having heard the praises from above, and being glad and rejoiced that he not only marvelled at her beauty, but also praised her robes, says:
1:1175
'Awake, O north wind, and come, O south; and blow through my garden, and let my spices flow out.'
1:1176
'Let my beloved come down into his garden, and eat the fruit of his choice tree-crops.'
1:1177
北風在神聖的經文中乃是被指責的事物之一;
The north wind is among the things spoken against in the divine Scripture;
1:1178
'From the north I will drive them out from you.' And elsewhere:
1:1179
『看哪,災禍與大毀滅從北方而來。』因此她吩咐北風興起並退去,好叫南風吹過,使園中成熟的香氣流溢出來;
'Behold, evils come from the north, and great destruction.' She bids the north wind, therefore, awake and withdraw, so that the south may blow through and cause the ripened spices of the garden to flow forth;
1:1180
that her beloved may enjoy her fruits.
1:1181
至於南風則是明顯的,就是從正午之方吹來,被稱為南風(notos),因為它是濕潤的,吹拂之時使身體充滿濕氣;
Now the south is evident, that it blows from the noonday, being called the south (notos) because it is moist, and fills bodies with moisture as it blows;
1:1182
而且光也是從正午之方更為豐盈地流入;
and moreover the light streams in more fully from the noonday;
1:1183
為此,哈巴谷也預言主必從正午之方而來;
wherefore Habakkuk also foretells that the Lord will come from the noonday;
1:1184
'For God,' he says, 'shall come from Teman;'
1:1185
and this is interpreted so in the tongue of the Hebrews and of the Syrians. She bids, therefore, the contrary Spirit depart, and the divine grace blow, so that her beloved may gather the ripened fruits of her spices, none being blasted by the wind or falling before its season.
1:1186
'I have come into my garden, my sister, my bride. – I have gathered my myrrh with my spices, I have eaten my bread with my honey, I have drunk my wine with my milk.'
1:1187
'Eat, O friends, and drink, and be drunken, O my beloved ones.' 'For I have come,' he says, 'into my own garden, the one offered to me by thee, and I have gathered first my myrrh, that is, the myrrh which I planted in thee;'
1:1188
for I first accepted the death on thy behalf, and thereafter thou didst desire to die together with me and to be buried together with me.
1:1189
'For thou wast buried together with me through baptism into death, and didst mortify thy members that are upon the earth.'
1:1190
'I have gathered, therefore, my myrrh with my spices;'
1:1191
'And the other virtue also,' He says, 'which you were taught by Me, I have gathered and received as fruit.'
1:1192
'I have eaten My bread with My honey' — that solid and sweet nourishment which is found among those who are perfect.
1:1193
'I have drunk My wine.' And He has fitly added the possessive pronoun.
1:1194
For He Himself is the true Vine, from which this wine was cultivated.
1:1195
'I have drunk My wine with My milk.' For He does not thrust away even the infants, those as it were still at the breast and nourished with milk, but receives from them too their measured fruit; and being good, He also calls His friends to the feast, and says:
1:1196
'Eat, O My neighbours, and drink, and be drunken, O My brethren.' Those who have been made perfect draw near to Him and boast of their kinship with Him — those who keep the image undefiled.
1:1197
祂不僅吩咐他們喝,甚至還吩咐他們沉醉;
And He bids them not only to drink, but even to become drunken;
1:1198
因為有一種醉,是產生清明的心志,而非產生神智昏亂的;
for there is a drunkenness that works soberness of mind, and not derangement;
1:1199
one that does not loosen the limbs, but strengthens them.
1:1200
'They shall be drunken,' it says, 'with the fatness of Thy house, and Thou shalt make them drink of the torrent of Thy delights.' To the things spoken above from on high, the bride replies, [chapter] 2:
1:1201
'I sleep, but my heart waketh.'
1:1202
For even if I am constrained by nature to close my eyes and receive sleep, yet in my mind I am awake, and I do not admit the sleep of slothfulness, while I await the coming of the Bridegroom.
1:1203
'For the voice,' she says, 'of my beloved knocks at the door.' Let us set beside these words, if it seems good, the things spoken in the divine Gospels by the Good Shepherd:
1:1204
'For My sheep,' He says, 'hear My voice.' And again:
1:1205
'But a stranger will they not follow, for they know not the voice of strangers.' Blessed then is the one who is shepherded and recognizes the shepherd's voice.
1:1206
Blessed is the one led as a bride, and who knows how to distinguish the voice of the adulterer from that of the Bridegroom; blessed is the one who says:
1:1207
'I will not give sleep to my eyes, nor slumber to my eyelids,' but keeping watch and awaiting the Bridegroom, according to the Lord's own exhortation:
1:1208
'Your Lord cometh.' This counsel too the blessed Paul offers, saying:
1:1209
'Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong; let all your things be done in love.' The bride therefore, being awake — although she sleeps the bodily sleep — comes to enjoy the voice of the Bridegroom, and hears the knocking at the door.
1:1210
靈魂的門若不是肉身的官能,還能是甚麼呢?新婦正是藉這些官能來接納新郎——祂不僅叩門,甚至懇求為祂開門。祂說:「我的妹子,我的鄰舍,我的鴿子,我的完全人哪,求你給我開門;因我的頭滿了露水,我的頭髮被夜間的甘露沾濕。」祂以「夜間」表明猶太人在夜裡對祂所發動的暴亂;
And what are the doors of the soul but the senses of the body, through which the bride receives the Bridegroom, not only knocking but even entreating that the door be opened to Him? 'For open to me,' He says, 'my sister, my neighbour, my dove, my perfect one; for my head is filled with dew, and my locks with the drops of the night.' Now by the night He signifies the uprising made against Him in the night by the Jews;
1:1211
and by the dew and the drops, the three days' death, which His locks of hair — and not He Himself — received.
1:1212
祂說:「既然我為你接受了死亡,又為你忍受了這一切,就求你給我開門,接納我;
'Since, then,' He says, 'I have accepted death on your behalf, and endured these things for your sake, open to me and receive me;
1:1213
for I love your spiritual comeliness, and your perfection in virtue.'
1:1214
'Perfect one' — as fulfilling the perfection I have laid down as law:
1:1215
'Be ye perfect, even as your heavenly Father is perfect.' And again:
1:1216
「你若願意作完全人,可去變賣你所有的,分給窮人,就必有財寶在天上;
'If thou wilt be perfect, sell thy possessions, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven;
1:1217
and taking up thy cross, follow Me.' And I call her My dove, as having become spiritual, and having put off the old man with its sufferings and desires, and being able to see spiritually.
1:1218
And 'My neighbour,' as walking in My footsteps and longing to draw near to Me:
1:1219
「你們親近我,我就親近你們。」我也稱她為我的妹子;
'Draw near to Me, and I will draw near to you.' And I call her also My sister;
1:1220
not only because of the kinship of the nature which I have assumed, but also because of the intimacy of piety.
1:1221
Hearing then the words from above, the bride answers, saying:
1:1222
For the bride, having made use of delays, and not being willing at once to open the door to the Bridegroom, is compelled after a little while not only to walk as far as the door, but even to run into the city, to go about the marketplaces, and to fall in with certain watchmen, from whom she also receives wounds, and scarcely finds the longed-for Bridegroom.
1:1223
But if she had at once obeyed Him who called, she would have been delivered from all these toils:
1:1224
「我脫了衣裳,怎能再穿上呢?我洗了腳,怎能再玷污呢?」然而新郎所吩咐她的並不是這意思;
'I have put off my coat; how shall I put it on? I have washed my feet; how shall I defile them?' And yet this is not what the Bridegroom bids her;
1:1225
因為祂既不願她脫去舊人後又再穿上,也不願她洗淨了腳、蒙受了祂聖手的撫觸後,再度玷污雙腳;
for neither does He wish her, having put off the old man, to put it on again, nor does He desire her, having washed her feet and enjoyed the touch of His holy hands, to defile them once more;
1:1226
乃是願她毫無勞苦、毫無玷污地為祂開門——或是聽覺之門,或是眼目之門;
but rather to open to Him, without toil and without defilement, the door either of the hearing or of the eye;
1:1227
so that the Bridegroom, entering either through knowledge or through hearing, may dwell in the sanctified souls.
1:1228
既然她用那些藉口把祂推卻了,新郎就用別的方法喚醒她,不再單單在外面叩門,甚至將手從某個孔隙伸進來;
And since she put Him off, making use of those pretexts, the Bridegroom rouses her by another means, no longer merely knocking from without, but even introducing His hand through a certain opening;
1:1229
and by 'hand' we understand the sense of touch, and His divine operation, by which He made her come to sensation, so that she cried out:
1:1230
「我的良人從門孔裡伸進手來;
'My beloved put in his hand by the opening;
1:1231
and my bowels were moved for him.'
1:1232
「我起來,要給我良人開門;
'I rose up to open to my beloved;
1:1233
my hands dropped with myrrh, my fingers with flowing myrrh, upon the handles of the lock.'
1:1234
'My soul went forth at his word.'
1:1235
「我尋找他,卻尋不見;
'I sought him, but I found him not;
1:1236
I called him, but he answered me not.'
1:1237
「城中巡邏看守的人遇見我;
'The watchmen that go about the city found me;
1:1238
他們打了我,傷了我;
they smote me, they wounded me;
1:1239
the keepers of the walls took away my veil from me.'
1:1240
因為她不肯立刻為那叩門者開門,祂便藉著某一官能觸摸她——祂稱這官能為「孔隙」——並伸進祂的手,也就是祂的運行;
Since she was not willing at once to open to Him who knocked, He touches her through one of the organs of sense — which He called an 'opening' — having introduced His hand, that is, His operation;
1:1241
祂使她的愛升溫、燃燒起來;
and He warms and kindles her love;
1:1242
因為「我因他心裡激動」所暗示的正是這個意思——狄奧多提翁將此譯作「被溫熱了」;
for this is what is intimated by 'My bowels were moved for him' — which Theodotion rendered as 'was warmed';
1:1243
and she, being made drunken with longing, rises and runs to the door, and says:
1:1244
'That my hands, holding the lock and wishing to open, dropped with myrrh, and my fingers with flowing myrrh'; for I am clothed with the perfect mortification, even to the very tips of the extremities.
1:1245
'And when I had opened the door, I behold my beloved passing me by, and unwilling to enter.'
1:1246
'But I, hanging upon his love and clinging to his sacred words, held fast to the search, and continued crying out, and calling ceaselessly;'
1:1247
'but he did not answer, nor deign to give me a reply;'
1:1248
'and while I went about seeking the one I longed for, I fell in with those who dwell in and guard the city;'
1:1249
'and they not only maltreated me, or scourged me, but even inflicted wounds, and took away my veil.'
1:1250
And I consider that by 'keepers of the walls' and 'keepers of the city' the bride means the demagogues and rulers and tyrants who of old warred against the bride of God, and who smote and wounded the gloriously victorious martyrs, and delivered them to death, and stripped their souls bare, and took their body from their souls like a kind of veil.
1:1251
For those martyrs too, longing for the Bridegroom, and everywhere proclaiming Him in the cities and fields and remotest places, endured all these things.
1:1252
'I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, by the powers and by the might of the field, if ye find my beloved, tell him that I am wounded with love.'
1:1253
For often the Bridegroom appears also to those still imperfect and to babes, condescending to their weakness, and urging them on toward perfection:
1:1254
'For they that are strong have no need of a physician, but they that are sick.' She therefore adjures the maidens, if they should find her beloved, to declare how great a love she has for Him, and that she is wounded by the choice dart of love.
1:1255
眾少女不曉得那良人的名字;
The maidens are ignorant of the name of the beloved;
1:1256
for they are still imperfect, and are ignorant of the depth of the mysteries.
1:1257
'What is thy beloved more than another beloved, O thou fairest among women? What is thy beloved more than another beloved, that thou hast so adjured us? For often,' they say, 'we have heard thee saying:'
1:1258
'My beloved, of my beloved,' and we know not the meaning of the things spoken by thee.
1:1259
「既然如今有誓言橫在我們中間,我們就不能默然放過你所吩咐的事;
'Since, then, an oath is set before us, we cannot pass over in silence the things enjoined by thee;
1:1260
teach us therefore, O thou fairest among women.'
1:1261
And so the bride teaches those whom she is instructing the tokens of the Bridegroom, and she says to them:
1:1262
'My beloved is white and ruddy, chosen out from among ten thousands.'
1:1263
'His head is gold, ophaz' (that is, of finest gold).
1:1264
'His eyes are as doves by the fulness of waters, washed with milk, sitting by the fulness of waters.'
1:1265
'His cheeks are as bowls of spice, putting forth perfumes.'
1:1266
'His lips are lilies dropping full myrrh.'
1:1267
'His hands are turned, of gold, filled with Tharsis (chrysolite).'
1:1268
'His belly is a tablet of ivory upon a sapphire stone.'
1:1269
'His legs are pillars of marble, set upon bases of gold.'
1:1270
'His appearance is as choice frankincense, as cedars.'
1:1271
'His throat is sweetness, and he is altogether desirable.'
1:1272
'This is my beloved, and this is my dear one, O daughters of Jerusalem.'
1:1273
When the maidens have asked, the bride teaches them the tokens of her beloved, and she says:
1:1274
'My beloved is white and ruddy.' First she sets down 'white,' and second 'ruddy'; for he was ever God, yet he also became man, neither abandoning what he was, nor being changed into a man, but rather clothing himself with the human nature.
1:1275
所以他是白的,因他是神;
He is white, therefore, as God;
1:1276
有甚麼比光更明亮呢?照著福音書的話,他乃是真光;
for what is brighter than light? And he is the true Light, according to the voice of the Gospels;
1:1277
經上說:「那光是真光,照亮一切生在世上的人。」但他不僅是白的,也是紅的;
'For there was,' it says, 'the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.' Yet he is not only white, but also ruddy;
1:1278
因為他不僅是神,也是人;
for he is not only God, but also man;
1:1279
and the ruddiness signifies the earthly.
1:1280
Wherefore also in Isaiah the divine powers, beholding him ascending from earth to heaven, ask and say:
1:1281
'Who is this that cometh from Edom, the redness of his garments from Bosor? He is comely in his robe, with strength and might.' And they marvel also at the beauty in his body, calling this his robe.
1:1282
因為就其為人而言,他的美貌勝過世人;
For he is comely in beauty beyond the sons of men, as man;
1:1283
因為他那屬神的美是無可比擬的,也是無法企及的;
for his divine beauty is incomparable, as being unattainable;
1:1284
and they question him, and say:
1:1285
'Wherefore are thy garments red, as of one that is full from a trodden winepress, when it hath been trampled?' And teaching them, since they long to learn the cause of the redness, he says:
1:1286
「我獨自踹酒醡,列國中並無一人與我同在。」——因為救我們的既不是使者,也不是天使,乃是主自己,正如以賽亞的預言所說;
'I have trodden the winepress alone, and of the nations there was none with me.' — For it was neither an elder nor an angel, but the Lord himself who saved us, according to the prophecy of Isaiah;
1:1287
他說:「我在怒中將他們踐踏,在忿怒中將他們踏碎」——就是那些與人性為敵的鬼魔和牠們的軍隊;
'And I trampled them,' he says, 'in my wrath, and I crushed them in mine anger' — those demons that war against human nature, and their host;
1:1288
「我的衣服因擊敗他們而被血點染」;因為在得勝、廢除他們權勢之時,我的衣服上沾了幾滴血;
'And my garments were sprinkled through their overthrow'; for in conquering and destroying their power, I received certain drops of blood upon my garments;
1:1289
and this signifies the three-day death.
1:1290
當仔細留意,他並不說「我被血點染」,乃說「我的衣服因擊敗他們而被血點染」,就是指他的身體;
And it must be carefully noted that he does not say 'I was sprinkled,' but 'my garments were sprinkled through their overthrow' — that is, my body;
1:1291
因為屬神的性情是不能受苦的,惟有身體才承受了苦難;
for the divine nature is impassible, but the body received the suffering;
1:1292
the united God the Word indeed drew it along, yet drew no suffering thence, since by nature the Divine is above suffering.
1:1293
「我的良人白而且紅,超乎萬人之上,是特選出來的。」因為這初熟的果子勝過一切受造之性;
'My beloved is white and ruddy, chosen out from among ten thousands.' For the first-fruits is superior to every nature;
1:1294
「因他並沒有犯罪,口裡也沒有詭詐」;故此他作為無瑕的祭物,為全人類獻上;
'For he did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth'; wherefore as a spotless sacrifice he was offered up on behalf of the whole race;
1:1295
for this cause also, through Isaiah the prophet, the God of all things foretells, saying:
1:1296
「看哪,我所揀選的僕人,我心所喜悅的選民;
'Behold my servant whom I have chosen, my elect in whom my soul delighted;
1:1297
I will put my Spirit upon him, he shall bring forth judgment to the nations.' Fittingly, therefore, the bride says:
1:1298
「我的良人白而且紅,超乎萬人之上,是特選出來的。」因為那擔當我們罪孽的——我們的罪本紅如朱紅、赤如丹紅——他自己成為紅的並被如此稱呼,乃是合宜的;
'My beloved is white and ruddy, chosen out from among ten thousands.' For it was fitting that he who had taken up our sins, which were red as scarlet and as crimson, should himself become ruddy and be so named;
1:1299
經上又說:「他的頭是精金,俄法斯的純金」;照西馬庫斯的譯本作「如寶石」,照第五種譯本作「以金為記」。這裡「他的頭」乃是象徵地指他屬神的本性,即上文所稱的「白」;
'But also his head,' it says, 'is gold, ophaz'; according to Symmachus, 'as a precious stone'; according to the fifth edition, 'marked out with gold.' And by 'his head' it figuratively calls the Divine, the 'white' named above;
1:1300
for it found no other more fitting name.
1:1301
我認為那從他湧流出來的恩典,被稱為「頭髮的鬈曲」;
The graces that pour forth from him, I consider to be named 'locks';
1:1302
which are named 'black' in one respect, and 'palm-shoots' in another.
1:1303
For the palm-shoots are the fruit of the male palm-trees, which, being cast upon the female trees, cause their fruits to become ripe.
1:1304
既然那些信他的人,享受他多樣的恩賜,便為他結出敬虔的果子,他就恰當地將那頭髮的鬈曲比作棕櫚的枝條;
Since, therefore, those who have believed in him, enjoying his manifold gifts, bear for him the fruit of godliness, he fittingly likens the locks to palm-shoots;
1:1305
and he calls them 'black,' signifying by the deep and dark colour the unattainableness of his dispensations.
1:1306
「頭髮的鬈曲如棕櫚枝條,黑如烏鴉」;這裡他取用烏鴉,僅是為著牠的顏色;
'The locks are palm-shoots, black as a raven'; and here he has taken the raven only on account of its colour;
1:1307
經上說:「他的眼如鴿子在充足的水邊」;
'His eyes,' it says, 'are as doves by the fulness of waters';
1:1308
他在此又藉著眼睛,驚嘆他觀看的能力;
again here, through the eyes, he marvels at his power of sight;
1:1309
and he reminds us of the dove that descended upon him at the Jordan.
1:1310
有人聽見說「如鴿子」(複數)而非「一隻鴿子」,不必為此驚異;
And let no one be startled that it is said 'as doves,' and not 'a dove';
1:1311
因為我們在聖經中見到,不僅提到「靈」,也提到眾「靈」;
for we find in the divine Scripture named not only 'spirit,' but also 'spirits';
1:1312
not because there are many Holy Spirits — for there is one Holy Spirit, the Paraclete —
1:1313
but the blessed Paul knows to call his gifts 'spirits.'
1:1314
經上又說:「這些鴿子也用奶洗淨,安居在充足的水邊。」因為對於那些需要這食物的人,牠們用奶餵養;
'But the doves are also washed with milk,' it says, 'and sitting by the fulness of waters.' For some they nourish with milk, who have need of this food;
1:1315
and others they make new and renew, who have been made old by sin, 'sitting by the fulness of waters,' and sanctifying these also.
1:1316
它恰當地說「充足的水」;因為它不接納那些信心不完全、不憑真誠信心前來的人;
And fittingly it said 'the fulness of waters'; for it does not receive those who possess an imperfect faith, and who do not approach with sincere faith;
1:1317
such as was Simon, who was indeed baptized, but was shown to be unworthy of the grace, not having become full, but deficient, and not possessing the perfection of faith.
1:1318
經上說:「他的兩腮如香料的盤子,發出芬芳的香膏;他的嘴唇像百合花,滴下豐盈的沒藥。」它又以「兩腮」和「嘴唇」稱他的教訓;
'His cheeks,' it says, 'are as bowls of spice putting forth perfumes, and his lips are lilies dropping full myrrh.' And again by 'cheeks' and 'lips' it calls his teaching;
1:1319
因為嘴唇和兩腮都是言語的器官;
for both lips and cheeks are the instruments of speech;
1:1320
因為這些一動,便發出清晰的話語;
for when these are moved, articulate speech is produced;
1:1321
它稱這些為「香料的盤子」,是為著那教訓的芬芳;
and it names these 'bowls of spice,' on account of the fragrance of the teaching;
1:1322
並且說它們也「發出香膏」;
and it says that they also 'put forth perfumes';
1:1323
for from thence the teachers of the Church, taking the occasions of their teaching, become as it were perfumers of the preaching, and prepare the ointment of benefit.
1:1324
經上說:「他的嘴唇如同百合花」;
'And his lips,' it says, 'resemble lilies';
1:1325
因為那屬神的話語發出光輝,其中並無一絲屬人的成分;
for the divine words shine, having nothing human in them;
1:1326
for the lilies neither spin nor weave, according to the teaching of the Lord, but the Father who is in the heavens clothes them.
1:1327
Since, therefore, the divine words are stripped of all human wisdom, and possess only the divine beauty, it fittingly says:
1:1328
'His lips are lilies dropping full myrrh' — that is, teaching the mortification in the present life.
1:1329
For such are the Lord's teachings:
1:1330
'He that forsaketh not father, and mother, and wife, and fields, and vineyards for my sake, is not worthy of me'; and:
1:1331
'He who does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me'; and again:
1:1332
'If you would be perfect, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and take up your cross and follow me.' For this reason 'his lips drip with full myrrh,'
1:1333
dissolved, as it were, piercing through and directing aright each action.
1:1334
'For thus it becomes us to fulfil all righteousness.' And again he calls them 'gold,' as being precious and rare.
1:1335
至於「他施」一詞,他之所以採用,是因那金子經過試驗、純正無偽;
And the word 'Tharsis' he took because of the tested purity of the gold;
1:1336
for from there, divine Scripture says, was brought gold unadulterated, refined, and tested.
1:1337
'His belly is an ivory tablet upon a sapphire stone.' For the depth of his mysteries, and the storehouse of knowledge, wherein are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge hidden, is an ivory tablet to those worthy of revelation.
1:1338
按其本性,這些是不可測度的;
And by nature they are incomprehensible;
1:1339
therefore it says 'upon a sapphire stone,' which signifies the depth and hiddenness of divine things.
1:1340
然而,這深邃、隱藏而晦暗之事,對那些配得的人卻成了象牙板;
Yet nevertheless this deep, hidden, and obscure thing becomes an ivory tablet to those who are worthy;
1:1341
wherefore also the blessed Paul cries out:
1:1342
「神為愛他的人所預備的,是眼睛未曾看見,耳朵未曾聽見,人心也未曾想到的」;
'Things which eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for those who love him;'
1:1343
'but God has revealed them to us through his Spirit.' And again:
1:1344
而那分明是烏黑的鬈髮,他也如此稱說;
and the locks, which are evidently black, he called them so;
1:1345
因為對那些尚未得著神聖啟示的人,連那些看似明顯的事也是晦暗的,凡可憑感官覺察的也是不可測度的;
for to those who have not yet attained the divine revelation, even the things that seem to be evident are obscure, and the things perceptible by the senses are incomprehensible;
1:1346
but to those who have come within the divine mysteries, even the obscure things become manifest.
1:1347
'The obscure and hidden things of your wisdom you have made known to me.' This, then, is what the bride also says:
1:1348
「他的身軀如同象牙板,鑲嵌著藍寶石;
'His belly is an ivory tablet upon a sapphire stone;
1:1349
他的腿好像白玉石柱,安在精金座上。」她藉著那白玉石柱,表明他的穩固、堅定、恆久與持守;
his legs are pillars of marble, set upon bases of gold.' By the marble pillars she signified his firmness, stability, permanence, and endurance;
1:1350
and she named their bases 'golden,' indicating thereby the preciousness of his deeds.
1:1351
「他的形狀如利巴嫩,佳美如香柏樹。」在此她再次闡釋那雙重的本性;
'His appearance is like Lebanon, choice as the cedars.' Here again she interprets the twofold nature;
1:1352
for by 'frankincense' she designates the divine nature, since according to the Law frankincense was offered to God.
1:1353
又以「香柏」稱那人性,因它不曾沾染罪的腐朽;
And by 'cedar' she calls the human nature, as one that received no rottenness of sin;
1:1354
for among woods the cedar is incorruptible.
1:1355
'How sweet are your words to my throat, more than honey and the honeycomb to my mouth!' And:
1:1356
'Never did a man so speak as this man'; and others cried out:
1:1357
'Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts that you sucked.' His throat, then, is sweetness; but moreover, he is wholly desire; for being at a loss for further praises, she names him by a single name.
1:1358
'For why,' she says, 'do I recount his beauty part by part? For he is wholly desire, drawing all men into love, compelling them to affection, casting desire not only upon those who see him, but also upon those who hear.'
1:1359
Having said these things, she says to the young maidens:
1:1360
「耶路撒冷的眾女子啊,這是我的良人,這是我的朋友。」既然你們不明白,還問說:「你的良人比別人的良人有何強處呢?」看哪,我告訴你們:我的良人是這樣的,我的朋友也是這樣的;
'This is my beloved, and this is my companion, O daughters of Jerusalem.' Since you were ignorant, and asked, 'What is your beloved more than another beloved?'—behold, I tell you: Such is my beloved, and such is my companion;
1:1361
take heed therefore to the oath, and do not be negligent, but seek him, and declare to me my longing.
1:1362
Having learned, then, the tokens of the bridegroom, those maidens again inquire and ask where he goes and whither he has departed, and they say:
1:1363
'Where has your beloved gone, O fairest among women? Whither has your beloved turned aside, that we may seek him with you?'
1:1364
For if we should learn the place of his sojourn, we will not be negligent, but will share with you in your labour, and will seek the one you long for.
1:1365
Again, therefore, she answers them, saying:
1:1366
'My beloved has gone down into his garden, to the beds of spices, to pasture in the gardens, and to gather lilies.'
1:1367
但我們必須查考,她為何既說一個園子,又說許多園子;
But we must inquire why she speaks of both one garden and many;
1:1368
for 'he has gone down into his garden, to pasture in the gardens.' Indeed, there is one Church, according to the blessed Paul:
1:1369
'For I have betrothed you,' he says, 'to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ.' And again:
1:1370
「你們作丈夫的,要愛你們的妻子,正如基督愛教會一樣。」然而蒙福的保羅又稱她們為許多;
'Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the Church.' Yet the blessed Paul again calls them many;
1:1371
他這樣做,不是按著屬靈的區分,乃是按著地域的區分;
doing this not according to the spiritual, but according to the local division;
1:1372
for 'Paul,' he says, 'an apostle, not from men, nor through man, to the Churches of Galatia.' And writing to the Corinthians he says:
1:1373
To these things the bride adds:
1:1374
「我屬我的良人,我的良人也屬我;
'I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine;
1:1375
who pastures among the lilies.'
1:1376
For upon him I depend, and to him I have dedicated myself.
1:1377
For he himself has preferred me above all the world, and joined me to himself, and renewed me who had grown old, and enriched me who was poor, and made me beautiful who was ill-favoured, and healed me who had festering and foul-smelling bruises, and filled me with fragrance.
1:1378
「我屬我的良人,我的良人也屬我;
'I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine;
1:1379
他在百合花中牧放群羊」,或照著西馬庫的譯本作「他牧養那些花」;
who pastures among the lilies,' or 'who pastures the flowers,' according to Symmachus;
1:1380
因為他確實牧養那些已成為百合花的人,並在百合花中牧養那些配得的人;
for indeed he pastures those who have become lilies, and among the lilies he pastures the worthy;
1:1381
and nothing is more fragrant than the divine Scriptures.
1:1382
The bridegroom, having heard the words of the bride, and having taken pity on her who longed for him, and who night and day was imagining him and discoursing about him and recounting his beauty, appears to her, saying:
1:1383
'You are fair, O my companion, as good pleasure, comely as Jerusalem;'
1:1384
And he makes for her a name from the very thing that came to pass on her account.
1:1385
因為主既喜悅了他的地,又使雅各被擄的歸回,赦免了他百姓的罪孽,遮蓋了他們一切的罪;他理所當然地稱她為「喜悅」;
For since the Lord took good pleasure in his land, and turned back the captivity of Jacob, and forgave the iniquities of his people, and covered all their sins; fittingly he calls her 'good pleasure';
1:1386
正如她在前面稱他為「渴慕」,是從自己的情感而定此稱謂;
and just as she above named him 'desire,' assigning the appellation from her own passion;
1:1387
因她不住地渴慕他,便稱他為「渴慕」;
for longing after him unceasingly, she calls him 'desire';
1:1388
so likewise he too, having taken good pleasure and willed to espouse her and join her to himself, names her 'good pleasure.'
1:1389
他說:「因為你這樣美麗,如同蒙我喜悅、被我所愛的;
'For thus,' he says, 'you are fair, as one well-pleasing to me and beloved;
1:1390
你不但美麗,也是秀美的,並且不僅僅是秀美,乃是秀美如耶路撒冷;
and not only are you fair, but also comely, and not simply comely, but as Jerusalem;
1:1391
not this Jerusalem below, but the one above, concerning which the blessed Paul says:
1:1392
'But the Jerusalem which is above is free;
1:1393
她是我們眾人的母。」我的朋友啊,你就像她;
which is the mother of us all.' To her you are like, O my companion;
1:1394
因為你已效法了天使般的生活;
for you have imitated the angelic manner of life;
