命令則光照悟性的眼目,教導人何為事奉萬有之神之道;
The commandment enlightens the visual faculty of the understanding, teaching what serves the God of all;
1:1253
while reverence and the fear of God, laying down the keeping of these things, procure the enjoyment of eternal good things.
1:1254
他有充分的理由稱敬畏神為潔淨的,也就是純潔無可指責的;
And with good reason he called the fear of God pure, that is, clean of all blame;
1:1255
因為屬人的懼怕是可責的,且帶有「膽怯」之名;
since human fear is blameworthy and bears the name of cowardice;
1:1256
他又稱典章為真實且公義的;
and he named the judgments true and justified;
1:1257
inasmuch as they bring upon men both rewards and punishments that are just.
1:1258
他因此說,這些比金子與寶石更寶貴,比蜜更甘甜;
These things, then, he said were more precious than gold and precious stones, and sweeter than honey;
1:1259
but not to all men, rather to those who are truly men, whose life is not likened to the irrational beasts, according to the utterance of the Prophet himself.
1:1260
「因你的僕人也謹守這些。」是為著甚麼益處呢?請更明白地教導我們;
'For your servant also keeps them.' For what gain?—teach us more plainly;
1:1261
'In keeping them there is great reward.' A most abundant recompense, he says, is set before those who choose to keep these things.
1:1262
And since he had spoken of keeping the judgments of God, taking into account human weakness and reckoning the immense weight of that word, he immediately added:
1:1263
'Who shall understand his transgressions? Cleanse me from my hidden faults.' For even though I should wish with much zeal to keep the commandments of God, by my natural weakness I am dragged down against my will into many things.
1:1264
And even if I escape the witness of deeds, my very thoughts fill me with every kind of defilement.
1:1265
ιδʹ
'Cleanse me from my hidden faults.' [14]
1:1266
'And spare thy servant from those of strangers.' For not only do my own thoughts encircle me, but the throng of demons also besieges me.
1:1267
Some lay their snares from without, while others work with them from within.
1:1268
He fittingly called them 'strangers,' as being hostile and warlike, and having utterly renounced all kinship with us.
1:1269
'If they shall not have dominion over me, then shall I be blameless, and I shall be cleansed from great sin.'
1:1270
and I shall be cleansed from great sin.
1:1271
[15] 'And the words of my mouth shall be for good pleasure, and the meditation of my heart shall be before thee continually.' I long to enjoy thy help,
1:1272
好叫我脫離牠們的詭計,能將一個毫無瑕疵的靈魂獻在祢面前;
so that, escaping their designs, I may present to thee a soul free from every blemish;
1:1273
and having received from thee pardon for my former stumblings, may offer thee eternal hymnody, making continual meditation upon thy oracles.
1:1274
藉此,凡相信的人便領受了對他們從前跌倒的赦免;
by which those who believe receive the remission of their former stumblings;
1:1275
and having sufficient help for the time to come, they overcome both the passions that rise up against them and the plotting, wicked spirits.
1:1276
「耶和華,我的幫助、我的救贖主啊。」他在末尾安置了與此篇詩相稱的結語,稱祂為「主」,因祂是造物者與創造主;
'O Lord, my helper and my redeemer.' Having set at the very end a conclusion befitting the psalm, he called him 'Lord' as maker and creator;
1:1277
and 'redeemer,' as one who, through the regeneration of the all-holy baptism, frees us from our former corruption and redeems us from the slavery of the demons, and bestows incorruption and immortality.
1:1278
這篇詩既包含前者也包含後者:起初的部分教導創造與眷顧;
And the psalm contains both these things and those: the first parts teach the creation and providence;
1:1279
the last parts, grace.
1:1280
For 'Who,' he says, 'shall understand his transgressions? And cleanse me from my hidden faults, O Lord, and spare thy servant from those of strangers'; and, 'O Lord, my helper and my redeemer.' And the dispenser of these good things is the new covenant.
1:1281
The blessed Hezekiah, a man adorned with all piety, having received that letter and taking the prophet Isaiah as his advocate, ran into the divine temple, and unrolling the letter, displayed it before God, informing him of the impiety of the enemies, and beseeching him, on account of the blasphemy that had been uttered, to show the Assyrians his own might.
1:1282
「願耶和華在你遭難的日子應允你;
'The Lord hear thee in the day of affliction;
1:1283
the name of the God of Jacob defend thee.'
1:1284
'May he send thee help from the sanctuary, and from Zion succour thee.' For since the admirable Hezekiah ran into the divine temple holding the blasphemous letter, they entreat that his supplication be received and that he obtain help from thence.
1:1285
Here he called the temple 'the sanctuary.'
1:1286
'The Lord remember all thy sacrifice,
1:1287
and make fat thy whole burnt offering.' Since even in the time of peace he was diligent in the divine worship, they fittingly say these things concerning him, entreating the God of all to look upon the king's piety.
1:1288
至於「使你的燔祭肥美」一語,西馬庫斯譯作:「並使你的獻祭更加豐盛」;
For the phrase 'Make fat thy whole burnt offering' Symmachus rendered thus: 'And make thy oblation more abundant';
1:1289
that is, granting the security that comes from peace, may he afford thee opportunity to propitiate him with more sacrifices.
1:1290
'and fulfil all thy counsel.' We entreat the righteous judge, he says, to give a recompense corresponding to the purity of thy soul.
1:1291
'We will rejoice in thy salvation,
1:1292
and in the name of the Lord our God we shall be magnified.'
1:1293
'The Lord fulfil all the petitions of thy heart.' For when thou receivest thy requests, we too shall share in the gladness, becoming conspicuous and renowned by the power of God.
1:1294
'Now I know that the Lord has saved his anointed;'
1:1295
and while offering his supplications in the temple below, he receives help from above.
1:1296
因為他既顯明他在下面禱告,便顯明他從上面得著幫助;
For since he showed him praying below, he shows him being helped from above;
1:1297
'in the mighty acts of the salvation of his right hand.' For the power of his right hand, which he stretches out to those who draw near, is the greatest of salvation.
1:1298
「有人靠車,有人靠馬;
'Some trust in chariots, and some in horses;
1:1299
but we will call upon the name of the Lord our God.'
1:1300
「他們都屈身仆倒,我們卻起來,並且站立得穩。」他說,那些倚靠馬與車的,卻從中毫無得益;
'They are brought down and fallen, but we are risen and set upright.' Those, he says, trusting in horses and chariots gained no benefit from thence;
1:1301
反倒被無形地絆倒,仆倒在地;
but being invisibly tripped up, they fell down;
1:1302
while we, having called upon the divine alliance, have manifestly obtained salvation, and as though our enemies had collapsed in fear, we were shown superior to our foes.
1:1303
'O Lord, save the king;'
1:1304
And having learned through the prophet Isaiah that he would die, having appeased God with hot tears, he received deliverance from the sickness, and obtained the promise of fifteen years of life.
1:1305
「耶和華啊,君王必因祢的能力歡喜;
'O Lord, in thy strength the king shall be glad;
1:1306
and in thy salvation he shall rejoice exceedingly.'
1:1307
「祢將他心裡所願的賜給他;
'Thou hast given him the desire of his heart;
1:1308
and hast not withheld from him all his requests;'
1:1309
rather, thou hast bestowed gifts greater than his requests.
1:1310
「因為祢用美善的福迎接他;
'For thou hast prevented him with the blessings of goodness;
1:1311
祢把精金的冠冕戴在他頭上。」因為祢未經他求便將王權賜給他;
thou hast set upon his head a crown of precious stone.' For thou gavest him the kingdom without his asking;
1:1312
and out of thine own bounty didst adorn his head with the royal crown.
1:1313
'He asked life of thee, and thou gavest him length of days for ever and ever.' He received, he says, what he supplicated for, and obtained the life which he longed for.
1:1314
For the phrase 'for ever and ever' also indicates the life to come, [that which is prepared for the saints,] which possesses imperishability.
1:1315
「他因祢的救恩大有榮耀;
'Great is his glory in thy salvation;
1:1316
glory and majesty shalt thou lay upon him.' For thou hast not only granted him salvation, but hast also made him conspicuous and exalted and renowned, both by the extraordinary death of the enemies and by the sun's running the contrary course.
1:1317
the king sent gifts to those who of old had offered gifts to the Assyrians.
1:1318
For he supposed that it was for Hezekiah's sake that the sun had done or suffered this, taking the death of the Assyrians as proof.
1:1319
'For thou wilt give him blessing for ever and ever; thou wilt gladden him with joy in the presence of thy countenance.' And in all generations, he says, he shall be celebrated and much spoken of, having obtained such great confidence before thee.
1:1320
For the phrase 'in the presence of thy countenance' Symmachus rendered 'beside thy countenance.'
1:1321
He shall therefore have gladness, he says, and perpetual delight, obtaining thy countenance, that is, thy favour.
1:1322
And the cause of these things for him was his trusting in thee.
1:1323
「因為君王倚靠耶和華,並倚賴至高者的慈愛,必不動搖。」他享有祢的恩典,便勝過那些攻擊他的人;
'For the king hopes in the Lord, and in the mercy of the Most High he shall not be shaken.' He is stronger than those who war against him, enjoying thy grace;
1:1324
and he enjoys this, trusting in no man, but in thy hope.
1:1325
「願祢的手搜出祢一切的仇敵;
'Let thy hand be found by all thine enemies;
1:1326
let thy right hand find out all that hate thee.' This Symmachus stated more clearly:
1:1327
「祢的手必擒拿祢一切的仇敵;
'Thy hand shall seize all thine enemies;
1:1328
thy right hand shall find out all that hate thee.'
1:1329
And what has been said follows on in the sequence.
1:1330
因為這君王倚靠對祢的盼望,並非徒然;
For not in vain has the king put his trust in thy hope;
1:1331
But knowing that your right hand is mightier than all your enemies, and that it will overtake even the swiftest and be able to bring down even the strongest,
1:1332
'For you shall make them as an oven of fire in the time of your presence.'
1:1333
'The Lord in his wrath shall trouble them, and fire shall devour them.'
1:1334
「你要從地上滅絕他們的果子,從世人中滅絕他們的後裔。」他說,對你而言,把他們像火爐一般點燃,像易燃之柴一般在火中燒盡,是極為容易之事;
'Their fruit shall you destroy from the earth, and their seed from among the sons of men.' It is a most easy thing for you, he says, to kindle them like an oven and to consume them like readily combustible fuel in the fire;
1:1335
不僅滅絕他們本身,也連同他們的子孫;
and not them alone, but their offspring as well;
1:1336
因為他把這些稱作「後裔」和「果子」;
for these he called both 'seed' and 'fruit';
1:1337
so that all memory of them might be blotted out.
1:1338
The phrase 'in the time of your presence' stands for 'in the time of your wrath', when you shall judge this fitting to come to pass, and shall deem the time of retribution suitable.
1:1339
'For they inclined evils against you.' Since they moved their tongue against you and made use of blasphemous words —
1:1340
而西馬庫則這樣說:「他們謀算了不能成的意念。」他藉此預言那亞述人褻瀆的言語;
but Symmachus put it thus: 'They devised impossible schemes.' By this he foretells the blasphemous utterances of the Assyrian;
1:1341
「不要讓你所倚靠的神欺哄你,說他必救耶路撒冷脫離我的手。」他所論的正是這些話語,說「他們謀算了不能成的意念」;
'Let not the God in whom you trust deceive you, saying that he will deliver Jerusalem out of my hand.' It is concerning these words that he speaks, that 'they devised impossible schemes';
1:1342
或說「他們謀算了決不能站立的計謀」;
or 'they devised counsels that can in no way stand';
1:1343
expecting that they would prevail over the true God just as over the idols.
1:1344
'For you shall make them turn their back.' But Symmachus thus:
1:1345
「因為你要使他們成為逃亡之人。」因為那些躲過天使擊殺的人,你要使他們轉身逃跑,逼迫他們轉背而去;
'For you shall make them fugitives.' For those who escape the stroke of the angel, you shall turn to flight and compel to show their backs;
1:1346
so that departing they may proclaim the things that have come to pass.
1:1347
These things the prophet set down in prophetic fashion, as things not yet come to pass.
1:1348
'Among your remnants you shall prepare their face.' Some have said that this involves a hyperbaton, and have understood it thus:
1:1349
「在他們所剩下的人中,你要預備你的臉面」,意即「對那些殘存並逃脫的人,你要施行刑罰」;
'Among their remnants you shall prepare your face', that is, 'Upon those who are left and who have escaped you shall bring the retribution';
1:1350
and those who flee, who have turned their backs and think they have escaped death, you are able to turn about, to make stand, and to punish.
1:1351
'Be exalted, O Lord, in your strength;'
1:1352
「我們要歌唱、頌讚你的大能。」神並非因原本卑微而被高舉,也不是取得他所沒有的;
'we will sing and make melody of your mighty deeds.' God is not exalted as though he were lowly, nor does he take on what he does not possess;
1:1353
And the superscription also makes this plain.
1:1354
「因為標題乃是『交與伶長,論到清晨的幫助』;
['For it is 'unto the end, concerning the morning help';'
1:1355
the phrase 'unto the end' is set there so that you may consider the dispensation wrought by him at the consummation of the ages.'] For the 'morning help' is the manifestation of our Savior, which shone like the dawn upon those sitting in darkness.
1:1356
The rising light produces the dawn, and when it appears the darkness is dissolved, [and the diabolical mist.
1:1357
For wickedness in many places of Scripture is understood enigmatically by means of darkness.
1:1358
But some say that the 'morning help' means the time of the Savior's resurrection.] Concerning him, then, the psalm was spoken.
1:1359
For one ought rather to believe the holy apostles, and the Savior himself who plainly makes use of the psalm's opening, than those who attempt to misinterpret it.
1:1360
'O God, my God, attend to me;'
1:1361
By 'forsaking', then, he calls not the separation of the united Godhead, as some have supposed, but the permission granted for the passion.
1:1362
For the Godhead was present even while the form of the servant was suffering, and permitted it to suffer, contriving salvation for the whole nature.
1:1363
然而神性本身卻未從中領受任何苦痛;
Yet the Godhead itself received no suffering from thence;
1:1364
「我的過犯之言語遠離我的救恩。」當知道,別的譯者中無一人提及「過犯」;
'Far from my salvation are the words of my transgressions.' It should be known that none of the other translators mentioned 'transgressions';
1:1365
but Aquila has 'of my roaring', Symmachus 'of my lamentations', and Theodotion 'of my crying out'.
1:1366
But lest we seem, in making use of the other translators here, to be craftily refuting those who have interpreted the psalm otherwise, we shall employ the interpretation of the Seventy.
1:1367
For attending to this very reading, those men too denied that the psalm was fitting for the Lord.
1:1368
'For how,' he says, 'was it possible for one who had not sinned to say, ''Far from my salvation are the words of my transgressions''?' Let them, then, hear John the great crying out:
1:1369
'Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.' And the divine Paul saying:
1:1370
'Him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in him.' And again:
1:1371
'Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse on our behalf.' Therefore, just as being a fountain of righteousness he took up our sin, and being an ocean of blessing he received the curse lying upon us, and endured the cross, despising the shame,
1:1372
so also he made the words on our behalf his own.
1:1373
For if he willingly underwent the chastisement appointed for you —
1:1374
'For the chastisement of our peace was upon him,' as the prophet says —
1:1375
他就更加使用那為我們、代替我們所發的言語,並且呼喊:「我的過犯之言語遠離我的救恩。」他說,不要看那本性的過失;
much more did he make use of the words on our behalf, in our stead, and cries out, 'Far from my salvation are the words of my transgressions.' Look not, he says, upon the failings of the nature;
1:1376
but grant salvation on account of my sufferings.
1:1377
And since, ordering the passion after a human manner, he often prayed at the time of the passion —
1:1378
saying, 'Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me'; and in his distress he said —
1:1379
fittingly the psalm also, foretelling these things, said:
1:1380
'O my God, I will cry by day to you, and you will not hear, and by night, and it is not for folly in me.' Or according to the others, 'and by night, and there is no silence.'
1:1381
'By night,' he says, 'and by day I cry continually and do not endure to be silent, yet you have not heard, but have delivered me over to the passion;'
1:1382
'yet nevertheless I know the mystery of the dispensation.'
1:1383
For this was what the phrase 'it is not for folly in me' indicated. 'For I have understood that not in vain did you defer the granting of the request, but were dispensing some great and saving thing out of the passion.'
1:1384
'But you dwell in the holy place, the praise of Israel.' And what is most marvelous of all, he says, is that while you dwell in this holy body, the passion is being wrought.
1:1385
他稱他為「以色列的讚美」,因他被自己的敬拜者所稱頌歌頌;
He names him 'the praise of Israel', as being praised and hymned by his own worshippers;
1:1386
for in place of 'praise' the other interpreters have put 'hymn'.
1:1387
'They hoped, and you delivered them.'
1:1388
「他們向你哀求,就得了拯救;
['.' They cried out to you, and were saved;
1:1389
'they hoped in you, and were not put to shame.' 'And yet,' he says, 'I know full well that all our fathers, taking courage in your help, were not disappointed in their hope;'
1:1390
'and calling upon you for aid, they enjoyed your providence.'
1:1391
'But I am a worm, and not a man;'
1:1392
'a reproach of men, and despised of the people.' 'But I,' he says, 'after the manner of a worm, was seen to be lowly and became an object of mockery.'
1:1393
有些人說,藉著「蟲」也暗示了那從童女而生的降生;
Some have said that by the 'worm' the birth from the Virgin is also indicated;
1:1394
for this creature does not derive its being from sexual union.
1:1395
But I think that by the 'worm' here only lowliness is indicated, judging from what follows, for he says:
1:1396
'All who behold me have mocked me;'
1:1397
'they spoke with their lips, they shook their head.'
1:1398
'He hoped in the Lord; let him deliver him;'
1:1399
「耶和華既喜悅他,可以搭救他吧。」這些事都記載在聖福音書中;
'let him save him, since he delights in him.' And these things are set down in the holy Gospels;
1:1400
'For many,' he says, 'shaking their heads, said:'
1:1401
'He saved others; himself he cannot save.' And one of the two thieves said:
1:1402
'If thou be the Son of God, save thyself and us.' And indeed also this saying:
1:1403
'He hoped in the Lord; let him deliver him, let him save him, for he desireth him' — one may find fulfilled in the holy Gospels.
1:1404
'For thou art he that drew me out of the womb.'
1:1405
'Thou art my hope from my mother's breasts.'
1:1406
'I was cast upon thee from the womb.'
1:1407
「從我母腹中,你就是我的神。」這些事,蒙福的以賽亞也早已預言過;
'From my mother's womb thou art my God.' These things too the blessed Isaiah foretold;
1:1408
for having said that 'The virgin shall conceive in the womb, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel,' he went on to add:
1:1409
「求你不要遠離我,因為急難臨近了,沒有人幫助我。」因為那時眾門徒的隊伍已經離棄了他;
'Depart not from me, for affliction is near, for there is none to help me.' For at that time the band of the disciples had forsaken him;
1:1410
then he foretells the kinds of affliction.
1:1411
'Many bullocks have compassed me;'
1:1412
'fat bulls have beset me round.'
1:1413
「他們向我張口,好像抓撕吼叫的獅子。」他所稱的「公牛」,是指那些受託治理百姓、卻極其狂妄放肆的祭司和文士;
'They opened their mouth against me, as a ravening and roaring lion.' By 'bulls' he means the priests and Scribes, who had been entrusted with the rule of the people and who employed great insolence;
1:1414
而「牛犢」則是指那些歸屬在他們之下的人;
and by 'bullocks,' those ranged under them;
1:1415
and he calls them 'fat,' as having luxuriated in the good things provided by him.
1:1416
For thus too the great Moses foretold:
1:1417
'And Jacob ate, and was filled, and the beloved kicked; he grew fat, he grew thick, he was enlarged, and forsook the Lord that made him.' And indeed the blessed Hosea too likens him to a wanton heifer:
1:1418
'For like a wanton heifer Ephraim hath run wild.' Thus he addressed the people:
1:1419
'And thus also Ephraim,' he says, 'is a heifer taught to love strife' — that is, contentious and quarrelsome.
1:1420
For by 'strife' he means not victory, but contentiousness.
1:1421
And to show the humbling that would follow thereafter, he added:
1:1422
'I will humble her proud neck, and lay upon it the yoke of servitude.'
1:1423
「我如水被倒出,我的骨頭都脫了節。」他所稱的「骨頭」是指眾聖使徒;
'All my bones are poured out like water.' By 'bones' he means the holy apostles;
1:1424
因為他也把教會稱為身體;
since he also calls the Church a body;
1:1425
而身體的力量就在於骨頭;
and the strength of the body is the bones;
1:1426
因為身體那鬆軟流散的部分正是靠這些骨頭支撐的;
for by these the loose and flowing part of the body is upheld;
1:1427
and they were all scattered at the time of the Passion, divided this way and that like water.
1:1428
'My heart is become like melting wax in the midst of my belly.'
1:1429
[v. 15] 'My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue cleaveth to my throat; and thou hast brought me down into the dust of death.' And all these things came to pass at the time of the Passion.
1:1430
因為他的心因懼怕而消融,如蠟被火所化,他的精力也不再顯出從前的活力;
For his heart, through fear, was dissolved as wax by fire, and his strength no longer displayed its former energy;
1:1431
and indeed his tongue too remained motionless.
1:1432
And the divinely-inspired evangelists teach us that, being often questioned, he answered nothing.
1:1433
And after the Passion he was delivered also to the tomb, which he named 'the dust of death,' inasmuch as those who are buried are heaped over with earth.
1:1434
'For many dogs have compassed me;'
1:1435
「作惡的黨類環繞我。」在提及猶太人之後,他又提到那從外邦而來的隊伍;
'the assembly of the wicked hath beset me round.' After the Jews, he makes mention of the host from the Gentiles;
1:1436
for to these the former delivered him up.
1:1437
他恰當地把前者稱為「公牛」,把後者稱為「犬類」;
And fittingly he named the former 'bulls' and the latter 'dogs';
1:1438
〔因為前者是在律法的軛之下;
[for the former were under the yoke of the Law;
1:1439
縱然他們公然違犯律法;
even though they openly transgressed the Law;
1:1440
while the latter were unclean according to the Law.
1:1441
主也照樣稱呼那迦南婦人。〕他說:「不好拿兒女的餅丟給狗吃。」然而在受難之後,那些從前是狗的人,卻藉著信心遷入了兒子的行列;
Thus too the Lord named the Canaanite woman.] 'For it is not meet,' he says, 'to take the children's bread, and to cast it to the dogs.' Yet nevertheless after the Passion those who were once dogs passed over, through faith, into the rank of sons;
1:1442
Concerning these the blessed Paul cries aloud:
1:1443
'Beware of the dogs, beware of the evil workers, beware of the concision.' The prophetic word, however, having called them dogs, said:
1:1444
'The assembly of the wicked hath beset me round.' Then he recounts the things they dared to do.
1:1445
'They pierced my hands and my feet.'
1:1446
[v. 18] 'They numbered all my bones.' And this is plain and clear even to those who are exceedingly contentious.
1:1447
For we hear in the holy Gospels the Lord himself saying to his holy disciples:
1:1448
'Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself.' And moreover he showed to Thomas the marks of the nails, and the wound from the spear.
1:1449
And the phrase 'they numbered all my bones' signifies this: that 'they so stretched me out in nailing me, that it was easy for anyone who wished even to make out the number of the bones.'
1:1450
'And they gazed and looked upon me,' meaning, jeering and laughing.
1:1451
'But thou, O Lord, remove not thy help far from me;'
1:1452
'attend to my succour.'
1:1453
'Deliver my soul from the sword, and my only-begotten one from the hand of the dog.'
1:1454
'Save me from the lion's mouth, and my lowliness from the horns of the unicorns.' 'Since,' he says, 'I have no human help, may I obtain thy succour, and be delivered both from these, and from him who works through these, coming upon me like a dog and a lion.'
1:1455
因為按著使徒的話,他把那掌死權的稱為「獅子」、「犬類」和「野牛」;
for he calls 'lion' and 'dog' and 'unicorn' him who has the power of death, according to the word of the Apostle;
1:1456
that is, the devil, who at the time of the Passion also came upon him like a wild beast, bringing on death.
1:1457
This too the Lord said in the divine Gospels:
1:1458
'Now is the judgment of this world;'
1:1459
'now shall the prince of this world be cast out.' And again:
1:1460
「帶著罪的污點」,牠竟無恥而極不公義地把他交付於死亡;
'having the blemishes of sin,' shamelessly and most unjustly delivered him to death;
1:1461
but he endured the injustice, contriving to loose the death that is common to all.
1:1462
'in the midst of the church will I praise thee.' And hence too it is plain that he uttered these things in his human capacity, inasmuch as he also endured in his human capacity the very things which he uttered.
1:1463
For he calls those who have believed in him 'brethren.'
1:1464
And they are brethren, as of a man.
1:1465
因為就其為神而言,他是主宰、是主;
For as God, he is Master and Lord;
1:1466
but as man, he is also named brother.
1:1467
For he is Only-begotten and Firstborn.
1:1468
其中一個稱呼合乎他作為神和主的身分;
And the one term befits him as God and Lord;
1:1469
〔另一個則合乎他作為人的身分。〕因為就其為神而言,他是獨一受生的,被稱為獨生子;
[and the other as man.] For inasmuch as he is God, he alone is begotten, and is named Only-begotten;
1:1470
but inasmuch as he is man, he is also called Firstborn.
1:1471
The Apostle too is a witness, when he says:
1:1472
That he might be the firstborn among many brethren. This, then, he says, having recounted these things to my brethren, through them I will praise Thee, preparing those men to weave this hymn:
1:1473
then he fulfils the promise:
1:1474
你們敬畏耶和華的人,要讚美祂;
Ye that fear the Lord, praise Him;
1:1475
all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify Him.
1:1476
Let all the seed of Israel fear before Him. For since the Church is composed both of Gentiles and of Jews, He rouses both these and those to the hymn, naming the one group from the forefather, Jacob and Israel, and the other from virtue, as though virtue sufficed in place of lineage to adorn them.
1:1477
照樣,習慣上也把那些從外邦歸入律法的人稱為「猶太人」;
In this way too it was customary to call 'Jews' those from among the Gentiles who came over to the Law;
1:1478
and this the narrative of the Acts teaches us,
1:1479
Men of Israel, and ye that among you fear God. – For He hath not despised nor abhorred the supplication of the poor man, neither hath He turned away His face from me; and when I cried unto Him, He heard me. Sing praise, he says, to Him who became the author of this salvation for you, who did not deign to overlook your most lowly nature, but hearkened, and through my resurrection wrought salvation for you. After this he intimates the equality which, as God, He has with the Father.
1:1480
My praise shall be of Thee; in the great congregation I will confess unto Thee. For just as I make Thee manifest to men, so Thou also teachest all men to render unto me the same honour, now saying, This is My beloved Son in whom I am well pleased; hear ye Him; and now, I have both glorified Thee, and will glorify Thee again. Thus He revealed the knowledge concerning Him to Peter, thus to Paul, thus again through these men to mankind.
1:1481
For by 'great congregation' He named that which extends to the ends of the earth.
1:1482
I will pay my vows before them that fear Him. By 'vows' here he does not mean prayers, but promises.
1:1483
因為律法也知道這種分別;
For the Law too knows this distinction;
1:1484
Thou shalt vow a vow unto the Lord — that is to say, if thou promise something to God.
1:1485
Since, then, above he promised to weave a hymn through those who believe in Him, here he teaches more clearly that he will set the completion upon the promises, so that through the very deeds those who meditate on the divine oracles may learn the truth of the words.
1:1486
And since he made mention of the Church, of necessity he makes prophetic pronouncements concerning her, and foretells the calling of all the nations.
1:1487
For he calls them 'poor,' inasmuch as of old they did not possess the riches of true religion, but were enslaved to the poverty of ignorance.
1:1488
貧窮的人必吃得飽足,尋求耶和華的人必讚美祂。並非所有人——因為並非所有人都順從了福音——而是那些領受了那屬神渴慕的人;
The poor shall eat and be satisfied, and they that seek the Lord shall praise Him. Not all — for not all obeyed the Gospel — but those who received the divine longing;
1:1489
他說這些人既飢又渴,必因享用了那不朽的食物而得飽足;
these, inasmuch as they hunger and thirst, he said would be filled, having enjoyed the immortal food;
1:1490
and by 'divine food' we understand the spiritual teaching, and the mystical and immortal banquet, which those who have been initiated know.
1:1491
Their hearts shall live for ever and ever. For even while still clothed in a corruptible body, being sustained in soul by the hope of the resurrection, they await the life eternal.
1:1492
地的四極都要記念,並歸向耶和華。他用「記念」一詞是恰當的;
All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord. Well has he set down 'shall remember';
1:1493
for having received [His benefits], they forgot their Creator.
1:1494
Yet all the ends of the earth — not one nation, nor two, but from all peoples throughout the inhabited world countless multitudes shall run [to Him], and shall eagerly receive the ray of the knowledge of God.
1:1495
And all the families of the nations shall worship before Him. And teaching that the dominion belongs properly to God, and is not alien to Him, he has set down:
1:1496
For the kingdom is the Lord's, and He is the ruler over the nations. For God is not the God of Jews only, as those men suppose, but the maker of the whole nature of mankind.
1:1497
So also the Apostle said:
1:1498
難道神只作猶太人的神嗎?不也作外邦人的神嗎?是的,也作外邦人的神;
Is He the God of the Jews only? Is He not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also;
1:1499
seeing that God is one, who shall justify the circumcision by faith, and the uncircumcision through faith. Verse 30.
1:1500
All the fat ones of the earth have eaten and worshipped Him; all they that go down into the earth shall fall down before Him. For those who have eaten and been satisfied, giving thanks for the immortal food, shall worship as God Him who became the provider of these things.
1:1501
And since in the preceding line he made mention only of 'the fat ones' — inasmuch as such they had become through that divine food — he fittingly said:
1:1502
Before Him shall fall down all they that go down into the earth. For after the resurrection from the dead, some willingly, some unwillingly, some out of longing, some out of fear, shall offer this worship to God, according to that apostolic saying,
1:1503
that At His name every knee shall bow, of things in heaven, and things on earth, and things under the earth, and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Verse 31.
1:1504
For the nature that was assumed was united to the Godhead that assumed it, and has partaken of the same glory and honour.
1:1505
He, then, foretold all these things,
1:1506
地的四極都要記念,並歸向耶和華;
all the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord;
1:1507
萬國的萬族都要在祂面前敬拜;
and all the families of the nations shall worship before Him;
1:1508
for He has filled all land and sea with the knowledge of God, and has persuaded those who were of old in error, and who offered worship to idols, to worship the God who is, instead of the things that are not.
1:1509
But leaving aside the discourses against the Jews, let us proceed to the tasks before us, and to the interpretation of the remaining Psalms.
