2:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ Τεκνία μου , ταῦτα γράφω ὑμῖν ἵνα μὴ ἁμάρτητε . καὶ ἐάν τις ἁμάρτῃ , παράκλητον ἔχομεν πρὸς τὸν πατέρα , Ἰησοῦν Χριστὸν δίκαιον ·
Filioli mei , haec scribo vobis , ut non peccetis . Sed et si quis peccaverit , advocatum habemus apud Patrem , Jesum Christum justum :
ደቂቅየ ዘንተ እጽሕፍ ለክሙ ከመ ኢተአበሱ ወእመኒ ቦ ዘአበሰ ጰራቅሊጦስ ብነ ኀበ አብ ወኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ጻድቅ ውእቱ ይኅድግ ለነ ኀጣውኢነ ።
My little children, I write these things to you so that you may not sin. If anyone sins, we have a Counselor with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous.
2:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ αὐτὸς ἱλασμός ἐστιν περὶ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν ἡμῶν , οὐ περὶ τῶν ἡμετέρων δὲ μόνον ἀλλὰ καὶ περὶ ὅλου τοῦ κόσμου .
et ipse est propitiatio pro peccatis nostris : non pro nostris autem tantum , sed etiam pro totius mundi .
ወአኮ በእንቲኣነ ባሕቲቱ አላ በእንተ ዓለምኒ ።
And he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.
2:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐν τούτῳ γινώσκομεν ὅτι ἐγνώκαμεν αὐτόν , ἐὰν τὰς ἐντολὰς αὐτοῦ τηρῶμεν .
Et in hoc scimus quoniam cognovimus eum , si mandata ejus observemus .
ወበእንተዝ ነአምር ከመ አእመርናሁ ለእመ ዐቀብነ ትእዛዞ ።
This is how we know that we know him: if we keep his commandments.
2:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὁ λέγων ὅτι ἔγνωκα αὐτόν , καὶ τὰς ἐντολὰς αὐτοῦ μὴ τηρῶν , ψεύστης ἐστίν , καὶ ἐν τούτῳ ἡ ἀλήθεια οὐκ ἔστιν ·
Qui dicit se nosse eum , et mandata ejus non custodit , mendax est , et in hoc veritas non est .
ወዘሰ ይብል አአምሮ ወኢየዐቅብ ትእዛዞ ሐሳዊ ውእቱ ወአልቦ ጽድቀ እግዚአብሔር በኀቤሁ ።
One who says, “I know him,” and doesn’t keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth isn’t in him.
2:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὃς δ’ ἂν τηρῇ αὐτοῦ τὸν λόγον , ἀληθῶς ἐν τούτῳ ἡ ἀγάπη τοῦ θεοῦ τετελείωται . ἐν τούτῳ γινώσκομεν ὅτι ἐν αὐτῷ ἐσμεν ·
Qui autem servat verbum ejus , vere in hoc caritas Dei perfecta est : et in hoc scimus quoniam in ipso sumus .
ወዘሰ የዐቅብ ቃሎ አማን ፍቅረ እግዚአብሔር ፍጹም ላዕሌሁ ወበዝንቱ ነአምር ከመ ቦቱ ሀለውነ ።
But God’s love has most certainly been perfected in whoever keeps his word. This is how we know that we are in him:
2:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὁ λέγων ἐν αὐτῷ μένειν ὀφείλει καθὼς ἐκεῖνος περιεπάτησεν καὶ αὐτὸς οὕτως περιπατεῖν .
Qui dicit se in ipso manere , debet , sicut ille ambulavit , et ipse ambulare .
ወዘሰ ይብል ቦቱ ሀለውኩ መፍትው ይሑር በከመ ሖረ ዝክቱ ።
he who says he remains in him ought himself also to walk just like he walked.
2:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἀγαπητοί , οὐκ ἐντολὴν καινὴν γράφω ὑμῖν , ἀλλ’ ἐντολὴν παλαιὰν ἣν εἴχετε ἀπ’ ἀρχῆς · ἡ ἐντολὴ ἡ παλαιά ἐστιν ὁ λόγος ὃν ἠκούσατε .
Carissimi , non mandatum novum scribo vobis , sed mandatum vetus , quod habuistis ab initio . Mandatum vetus est verbum , quod audistis .
አኀዊነ አኮ ትእዛዘ ሐዲሰ ዘእጽሕፍ ለክሙ አላ ትእዛዘ ብሊተ እንተ ብክሙ ትካት እስመ ትእዛዝ ብሉይ ውእቱ ዝንቱ ቃል ዘሰማዕክሙ ።
Brothers, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning.
2:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ πάλιν ἐντολὴν καινὴν γράφω ὑμῖν , ὅ ἐστιν ἀληθὲς ἐν αὐτῷ καὶ ἐν ὑμῖν , ὅτι ἡ σκοτία παράγεται καὶ τὸ φῶς τὸ ἀληθινὸν ἤδη φαίνει .
Iterum mandatum novum scribo vobis , quod verum est et in ipso , et in vobis : quia tenebrae transierunt , et verum lumen jam lucet .
ወካዕበ ትእዛዘ ሐዲሰ እጽሕፍ ለክሙ ወውእቱ እሙን ብክሙ ወአንትሙኒ ቦቱ እስመ ኀለፈት ጽልመት ወብርሃን ዘበአማን ወድአ አስተርአየ ።
Again, I write a new commandment to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light already shines.
2:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὁ λέγων ἐν τῷ φωτὶ εἶναι καὶ τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ μισῶν ἐν τῇ σκοτίᾳ ἐστὶν ἕως ἄρτι .
Qui dicit se in luce esse , et fratrem suum odit , in tenebris est usque adhuc .
ወዘሰ ይብል ውስተ ብርሃን ሀሎኩ ወይጸልእ ቢጾ ሐሳዊ ውእቱ ወውስተ ጽልመት ሀሎ እስከ ይእዜ ።
He who says he is in the light and hates his brother is in the darkness even until now.
2:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὁ ἀγαπῶν τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ φωτὶ μένει , καὶ σκάνδαλον οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν αὐτῷ ·
Qui diligit fratrem suum , in lumine manet , et scandalum in eo non est .
ወዘሰ ያፈቅር ቢጾ ውስተ ብርሃን ይነብር ወአልቦ ዕቅፍት በኀቤሁ ።
He who loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no occasion for stumbling in him.
2:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὁ δὲ μισῶν τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ σκοτίᾳ ἐστὶν καὶ ἐν τῇ σκοτίᾳ περιπατεῖ , καὶ οὐκ οἶδεν ποῦ ὑπάγει , ὅτι ἡ σκοτία ἐτύφλωσεν τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ .
Qui autem odit fratrem suum , in tenebris est , et in tenebris ambulat , et nescit quo eat : quia tenebrae obcaecaverunt oculos ejus .
ወዘሰ ይጸልእ ቢጾ ውስተ ጽልመት ውእቱ የሐውር ወኢየአምር ኀበ የሐውር እስመ ጽልመት አዖሮ አዕይንቲሁ ።
But he who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and doesn’t know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
2:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ Γράφω ὑμῖν , τεκνία , ὅτι ἀφέωνται ὑμῖν αἱ ἁμαρτίαι διὰ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ .
Scribo vobis , filioli , quoniam remittuntur vobis peccata propter nomen ejus .
እጽሕፍ ለክሙ ደቂቅየ እስመ ተኀድገ ለክሙ ኀጢአትክሙ በእንተ ስሙ ።
I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.
2:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ γράφω ὑμῖν , πατέρες , ὅτι ἐγνώκατε τὸν ἀπ’ ἀρχῆς . γράφω ὑμῖν , νεανίσκοι , ὅτι νενικήκατε τὸν πονηρόν . ἔγραψα ὑμῖν , παιδία , ὅτι ἐγνώκατε τὸν πατέρα .
Scribo vobis , patres , quoniam cognovistis eum , qui ab initio est . Scribo vobis , adolescentes , quoniam vicistis malignum .
እጽሕፍ ለክሙ አበው እስመ አእመርክምዎ ለቀዳማዊ እጽሕፍ ለክሙ ወራዙት እስመ ሞእክምዎ ለእኩይ ጸሐፍኩ ለክሙ ደቂቅየ እስመ አእመርክምዎ ለአብ ።
I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, little children, because you know the Father.
2:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἔγραψα ὑμῖν , πατέρες , ὅτι ἐγνώκατε τὸν ἀπ’ ἀρχῆς . ἔγραψα ὑμῖν , νεανίσκοι , ὅτι ἰσχυροί ἐστε καὶ ὁ λόγος τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν ὑμῖν μένει καὶ νενικήκατε τὸν πονηρόν .
Scribo vobis , infantes , quoniam cognovistis patrem . Scribo vobis juvenes , quoniam fortes estis , et verbum Dei manet in vobis , et vicistis malignum .
ጸሐፍኩ ለክሙ አበው እስመ አእመርክምዎ ለቀዳማዊ ጸሐፍኩ ለክሙ ወራዙት እስመ ጽኑዓን አንትሙ ወቃለ እግዚአብሔር ይነብር ኀቤክሙ ወሞእክምዎ ለእኩይ ።
I have written to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God remains in you, and you have overcome the evil one.
2:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ μὴ ἀγαπᾶτε τὸν κόσμον μηδὲ τὰ ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ . ἐάν τις ἀγαπᾷ τὸν κόσμον , οὐκ ἔστιν ἡ ἀγάπη τοῦ πατρὸς ἐν αὐτῷ ·
Nolite diligere mundum , neque ea quae in mundo sunt . Si quis diligit mundum , non est caritas Patris in eo :
ኢታፍቅርዎ ለዓለም ወኢ ዘሀሎ ውስተ ዓለም ወዘሰ አፍቀሮ ለዓለም ኢሀሎ ፍቅረ እግዚአብሔር ላዕሌሁ ።
Don’t love the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love isn’t in him.
2:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὅτι πᾶν τὸ ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ , ἡ ἐπιθυμία τῆς σαρκὸς καὶ ἡ ἐπιθυμία τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν καὶ ἡ ἀλαζονία τοῦ βίου , οὐκ ἔστιν ἐκ τοῦ πατρὸς ἀλλ’ ἐκ τοῦ κόσμου ἐστίν .
quoniam omne quod est in mundo , concupiscentia carnis est , et concupiscentia oculorum , et superbia vitae : quae non est ex Patre , sed ex mundo est .
እስመ ኵሉ ዘሀሎ ውስተ ዓለም ፍትወቱ ለሥጋ ወፍትወቱ ለዐይን ወስራሑ ለመንበርት ኢኮነ ዝንቱ እምኀበ አብ አላ እምዓለም ውእቱ ።
For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—isn’t the Father’s, but is the world’s.
2:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ὁ κόσμος παράγεται καὶ ἡ ἐπιθυμία αὐτοῦ , ὁ δὲ ποιῶν τὸ θέλημα τοῦ θεοῦ μένει εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα .
Et mundus transit , et concupiscentia ejus : qui autem facit voluntatem Dei manet in aeternum .
ዓለሙኒ የኀልፍ ወፍትወቱኒ የኀልፍ ወዘሰ ይገብር ፍትወቶ ለእግዚአብሔር ይነብር ለዓለም ።
The world is passing away with its lusts, but he who does God’s will remains forever.
2:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ Παιδία , ἐσχάτη ὥρα ἐστίν , καὶ καθὼς ἠκούσατε ὅτι ἀντίχριστος ἔρχεται , καὶ νῦν ἀντίχριστοι πολλοὶ γεγόνασιν · ὅθεν γινώσκομεν ὅτι ἐσχάτη ὥρα ἐστίν .
Filioli , novissima hora est : et sicut audistis quia antichristus venit , et nunc antichristi multi facti sunt ; unde scimus , quia novissima hora est .
ደቂቅየ ዛቲ ሰዓት ደኃሪት ይእቲ ወበከመ ሰማዕክሙ ከመ ይመጽእ ሐሳዌ መሲሕ ይእዜኒ ኮኑ ብዙኃን ሐሳውያነ መሲሕ ወበዝንቱ አእመርነ ከመ ደኃሪት ሰዓት ይእቲ ።
Little children, these are the end times, and as you heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen. By this we know that it is the final hour.
2:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐξ ἡμῶν ἐξῆλθαν , ἀλλ’ οὐκ ἦσαν ἐξ ἡμῶν · εἰ γὰρ ἦσαν ἐξ ἡμῶν , μεμενήκεισαν ἂν μεθ’ ἡμῶν · ἀλλ’ ἵνα φανερωθῶσιν ὅτι οὐκ εἰσὶν πάντες ἐξ ἡμῶν .
Ex nobis prodierunt , sed non erant ex nobis , nam , si fuissent ex nobis , permansissent utique nobiscum : sed ut manifesti sint quoniam non sunt omnes ex nobis .
እስመ እምኔነ ወፅኡ እለ ኢኮኑ እምኔነ ወሶበሰ እምኔነ እሙንቱ እምነበሩ ምስሌነ ወባሕቱ ከመ ይትዐወቁ ከመ ኢኮኑ ኵሎሙ እምኔነ ።
They went out from us, but they didn’t belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have continued with us. But they left, that they might be revealed that none of them belong to us.
2:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ὑμεῖς χρῖσμα ἔχετε ἀπὸ τοῦ ἁγίου , καὶ οἴδατε πάντες .
Sed vos unctionem habetis a Sancto , et nostis omnia .
ወአንትሙሰ ቅብዐት ብክሙ እምነ መንፈስ ቅዱስ ወተአምሩ ኵሎ ።
You have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all have knowledge.
2:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ οὐκ ἔγραψα ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐκ οἴδατε τὴν ἀλήθειαν , ἀλλ’ ὅτι οἴδατε αὐτήν , καὶ ὅτι πᾶν ψεῦδος ἐκ τῆς ἀληθείας οὐκ ἔστιν .
Non scripsi vobis quasi ignorantibus veritatem , sed quasi scientibus eam : et quoniam omne mendacium ex veritate non est .
ኢጸሐፍኩ ለክሙ ከመ ዘኢተአምርዋ ለጽድቅ አላ ከመ ተአምርዋ እስመ ኵላ ሐሰት ኢኮነት እምጽድቅ ።
I have not written to you because you don’t know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth.
2:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ τίς ἐστιν ὁ ψεύστης εἰ μὴ ὁ ἀρνούμενος ὅτι Ἰησοῦς οὐκ ἔστιν ὁ Χριστός ; οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ ἀντίχριστος , ὁ ἀρνούμενος τὸν πατέρα καὶ τὸν υἱόν .
Quis est mendax , nisi is qui negat quoniam Jesus est Christus ? Hic est antichristus , qui negat Patrem , et Filium .
ወመኑ ውእቱ ሐሳዊ ዘእንበለ ዘይክሕድ ወይብል እስመ ኢየሱስ ኢኮነ መሲሐ ወዝንቱ ውእቱ ሐሳዌ መሲሕ ዘይክሕድ በአብ ወበወልድ ።
Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the Antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son.
2:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ πᾶς ὁ ἀρνούμενος τὸν υἱὸν οὐδὲ τὸν πατέρα ἔχει · ὁ ὁμολογῶν τὸν υἱὸν καὶ τὸν πατέρα ἔχει .
Omnis qui negat Filium , nec Patrem habet : qui confitetur Filium , et Patrem habet .
ወኵሉ ዘይክሕድ በወልድ ወበአብኒ ኢሀለወ ወዘሰ የአምን በወልድ ወበአብኒ ሀለወ ።
Whoever denies the Son doesn’t have the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also.
2:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὑμεῖς ὃ ἠκούσατε ἀπ’ ἀρχῆς ἐν ὑμῖν μενέτω · ἐὰν ἐν ὑμῖν μείνῃ ὃ ἀπ’ ἀρχῆς ἠκούσατε , καὶ ὑμεῖς ἐν τῷ υἱῷ καὶ ἐν τῷ πατρὶ μενεῖτε .
Vos quod audistis ab initio , in vobis permaneat : si in vobis permanserit quod audistis ab initio , et vos in Filio et Patre manebitis .
ወአንትሙሰ ዘሰማዕክሙ ትካት ለይንበር ኀቤክሙ ወእመሰ ዘሰማዕክሙ ትካት ነበረ ኀቤክሙ ወአንትሙኒ ትነብሩ በአብ ወበወልድ ።
Therefore, as for you, let that remain in you which you heard from the beginning. If that which you heard from the beginning remains in you, you also will remain in the Son, and in the Father.
2:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ αὕτη ἐστὶν ἡ ἐπαγγελία ἣν αὐτὸς ἐπηγγείλατο ἡμῖν , τὴν ζωὴν τὴν αἰώνιον .
Et haec est repromissio , quam ipse pollicitus est nobis , vitam aeternam .
ወዛቲ ይእቲ ተስፋ እንተ አሰፈወነ ሕይወተ ዘለዓለም ።
This is the promise which he promised us, the eternal life.
2:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ταῦτα ἔγραψα ὑμῖν περὶ τῶν πλανώντων ὑμᾶς .
Haec scripsi vobis de his , qui seducant vos .
ወዘንተ ንጽሕፍ ለክሙ በእንተ እለ ያስሕቱክሙ ።
These things I have written to you concerning those who would lead you astray.
2:27 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ὑμεῖς τὸ χρῖσμα ὃ ἐλάβετε ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ μένει ἐν ὑμῖν , καὶ οὐ χρείαν ἔχετε ἵνα τις διδάσκῃ ὑμᾶς · ἀλλ’ ὡς τὸ αὐτοῦ χρῖσμα διδάσκει ὑμᾶς περὶ πάντων , καὶ ἀληθές ἐστιν καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ψεῦδος , καὶ καθὼς ἐδίδαξεν ὑμᾶς , μένετε ἐν αὐτῷ .
Et vos unctionem , quam accepistis ab eo , maneat in vobis . Et non necesse habetis ut aliquis doceat vos : sed sicut unctio ejus docet vos de omnibus , et verum est , et non est mendacium . Et sicut docuit vos : manete in eo .
ወአንትሙሰ ቅብዐት ብክሙ እንተ ነሣእክሙ እምኀቤሁ ወትነብር ኀቤክሙ ወኢትፈቅዱ መኑሂ ይምሀርክሙ አላ መንፈሰ ዚኣሁ ይሜሀረክሙ በእንተ ኵሉ ወእሙን ውእቱ ወኢኮነ ሐሰተ ወበከመ ትምህርትክሙ ንበሩ ባቲ ።
As for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you don’t need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, you will remain in him.
2:28 ⧉ ⤴︎ Καὶ νῦν , τεκνία , μένετε ἐν αὐτῷ , ἵνα ἐὰν φανερωθῇ σχῶμεν παρρησίαν καὶ μὴ αἰσχυνθῶμεν ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ παρουσίᾳ αὐτοῦ .
Et nunc , filioli , manete in eo : ut cum apparuerit , habeamus fiduciam , et non confundamur ab eo in adventu ejus .
ወይእዜኒ ደቂቅየ ንበሩ ባቲ ከመ አመ አስተርአየ ንርከብ ገጸ በዕለተ ደይን ወኢንትኀፈር እምኔሁ አመ ይመጽእ ።
Now, little children, remain in him, that when he appears, we may have boldness and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
2:29 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐὰν εἰδῆτε ὅτι δίκαιός ἐστιν , γινώσκετε ὅτι καὶ πᾶς ὁ ποιῶν τὴν δικαιοσύνην ἐξ αὐτοῦ γεγέννηται .
Si scitis quoniam justus est , scitote quoniam et omnis , qui facit justitiam , ex ipso natus est .
ወእመሰ ርኢክሙ ከመ ጻድቅ ውእቱ አእምሩ ከመ ኵሉ ዘይገብራ ለጽድቅ እምኔሁ ተወልደ ።
If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.
