5:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ Πᾶς ὁ πιστεύων ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ἐστιν ὁ Χριστὸς ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ γεγέννηται , καὶ πᾶς ὁ ἀγαπῶν τὸν γεννήσαντα ἀγαπᾷ καὶ τὸν γεγεννημένον ἐξ αὐτοῦ .
Omnis qui credit quoniam Jesus est Christus , ex Deo natus est . Et omnis qui diligit eum qui genuit , diligit et eum qui natus est ex eo .
ኵሉ ዘየአምን ከመ ኢየሱስ ውእቱ መሲሕ እምነ እግዚአብሔር ተወልደ ወኵሉ ዘያፈቅሮ ለወላዲ ያፈቅር ዘኒ ተወልደ እምኔሁ ።
Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God. Whoever loves the Father also loves the child who is born of him.
5:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐν τούτῳ γινώσκομεν ὅτι ἀγαπῶμεν τὰ τέκνα τοῦ θεοῦ , ὅταν τὸν θεὸν ἀγαπῶμεν καὶ τὰς ἐντολὰς αὐτοῦ ποιῶμεν .
In hoc cognoscimus quoniam diligamus natos Dei , cum Deum diligamus , et mandata ejus faciamus .
ወበዝንቱ ነአምር ከመ ናፈቅሮ ለወልደ እግዚአብሔር ሶበ አፍቀርናሁ ለእግዚአብሔር ወገበርነ ትእዛዞ ።
By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments.
5:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ αὕτη γάρ ἐστιν ἡ ἀγάπη τοῦ θεοῦ , ἵνα τὰς ἐντολὰς αὐτοῦ τηρῶμεν · καὶ αἱ ἐντολαὶ αὐτοῦ βαρεῖαι οὐκ εἰσίν ,
Haec est enim caritas Dei , ut mandata ejus custodiamus : et mandata ejus gravia non sunt .
እስመ ዛቲ ይእቲ ፍቅሩ ለእግዚአብሔር ከመ ንዕቀብ ትእዛዞ ወትእዛዙኒ ኢኮነ ክቡደ ።
For this is loving God, that we keep his commandments. His commandments are not grievous.
5:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὅτι πᾶν τὸ γεγεννημένον ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ νικᾷ τὸν κόσμον · καὶ αὕτη ἐστὶν ἡ νίκη ἡ νικήσασα τὸν κόσμον , ἡ πίστις ἡμῶν .
Quoniam omne quod natum est ex Deo , vincit mundum : et haec est victoria , quae vincit mundum , fides nostra .
እስመ ኵሉ ዘተወልደ እምእግዚአብሔር ይመውዖ ለዓለም ወዛቲ ይእቲ ሙአቱ እንተ ሞኦ ለዓለም ሃይማኖትክሙ ።
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: your faith.
5:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ τίς ἐστιν ὁ νικῶν τὸν κόσμον εἰ μὴ ὁ πιστεύων ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ ;
Quis est , qui vincit mundum , nisi qui credit quoniam Jesus est Filius Dei ?
ወመኑ ውእቱ ዘይመውኦ ለዓለም ዘእንበለ ዘየአምን ከመ ኢየሱስ ውእቱ ወልደ እግዚአብሔር ።
Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
5:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ Οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ ἐλθὼν δι’ ὕδατος καὶ αἵματος , Ἰησοῦς Χριστός · οὐκ ἐν τῷ ὕδατι μόνον ἀλλ’ ἐν τῷ ὕδατι καὶ ἐν τῷ αἵματι · καὶ τὸ πνεῦμά ἐστιν τὸ μαρτυροῦν , ὅτι τὸ πνεῦμά ἐστιν ἡ ἀλήθεια .
Hic est , qui venit per aquam et sanguinem , Jesus Christus : non in aqua solum , sed in aqua et sanguine . Et Spiritus est , qui testificatur quoniam Christus est veritas .
ወከመ ውእቱ መጽአ በማይ ወበደም ወበመንፈስ ኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ።
This is he who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.
5:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὅτι τρεῖς εἰσιν οἱ μαρτυροῦντες ,
Quoniam tres sunt , qui testimonium dant in caelo : Pater , Verbum , et Spiritus Sanctus : et hi tres unum sunt .
ወአኮ በማይ ባሕቲቱ አላ በማይኒ ወበደምኒ ወበመፈስኒ ውእቱ ዘስምዐ ይከውን ከመ መንፈሰ ጽድቅ ።
For there are three who testify:
5:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ τὸ πνεῦμα καὶ τὸ ὕδωρ καὶ τὸ αἷμα , καὶ οἱ τρεῖς εἰς τὸ ἕν εἰσιν .
Et tres sunt , qui testimonium dant in terra : spiritus , et aqua , et sanguis : et hi tres unum sunt .
እስመ ሠለስቱ እሙንቱ እለ ይከውኑ ስምዐ መንፈስ ወማይ ወደም ወሠለስቲሆሙ አሐዱ እሙንቱ ።
the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and the three agree as one.
5:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἰ τὴν μαρτυρίαν τῶν ἀνθρώπων λαμβάνομεν , ἡ μαρτυρία τοῦ θεοῦ μείζων ἐστίν , ὅτι αὕτη ἐστὶν ἡ μαρτυρία τοῦ θεοῦ , ὅτι μεμαρτύρηκεν περὶ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ .
Si testimonium hominum accipimus , testimonium Dei majus est : quoniam hoc est testimonium Dei , quod majus est , quoniam testificatus est de Filio suo .
ወእመሰ ስምዐ ሰብእ ንነሥእ ስምዐ እግዚአብሔር የዐቢ ወዛቲ ይእቲ ስምዑ ለእግዚአብሔር እንተ ስምዐ ኮነ ላዕለ ወልዱ ።
If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is God’s testimony which he has testified concerning his Son.
5:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὁ πιστεύων εἰς τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ θεοῦ ἔχει τὴν μαρτυρίαν ἐν αὐτῷ · ὁ μὴ πιστεύων τῷ θεῷ ψεύστην πεποίηκεν αὐτόν , ὅτι οὐ πεπίστευκεν εἰς τὴν μαρτυρίαν ἣν μεμαρτύρηκεν ὁ θεὸς περὶ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ .
Qui credit in Filium Dei , habet testimonium Dei in se . Qui non credit Filio , mendacem facit eum : quia non credit in testimonium quod testificatus est Deus de Filio suo .
ዘየአምን በወልደ እግዚአብሔር ሀለወ ስምዐ እግዚአብሔር ምስሌሁ ወዘሰ ኢየአምን በወልዱ ሐሳዌ ረሰዮ እስመ ኢየአምን በስምዕ እንተ ስምዐ ኮነ እግዚአብሔር ላዕለ ወልዱ ።
He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. He who doesn’t believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son.
5:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ αὕτη ἐστὶν ἡ μαρτυρία , ὅτι ζωὴν αἰώνιον ἔδωκεν ἡμῖν ὁ θεός , καὶ αὕτη ἡ ζωὴ ἐν τῷ υἱῷ αὐτοῦ ἐστιν .
Et hoc est testimonium , quoniam vitam aeternam dedit nobis Deus : et haec vita in Filio ejus est .
ወዛቲ ይእቲ ስምዑ ለእግዚአብሔር እንተ ወሀበነ ሕይወተ ዘለዓለም ወዛቲ ይእቲ ሕይወት እንተ በወልዱ ።
The testimony is this: that God gave to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
5:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὁ ἔχων τὸν υἱὸν ἔχει τὴν ζωήν · ὁ μὴ ἔχων τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ θεοῦ τὴν ζωὴν οὐκ ἔχει .
Qui habet Filium , habet vitam : qui non habet Filium , vitam non habet .
ዘሀለወ ምስሌሁ ወልድ ቦቱ ሕይወት ወዘሰ ኢሀሎ ምስለ ወልደ እግዚአብሔር አልቦቱ ሕይወት ዘለዓለም ።
He who has the Son has the life. He who doesn’t have God’s Son doesn’t have the life.
5:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ταῦτα ἔγραψα ὑμῖν ἵνα εἰδῆτε ὅτι ζωὴν ἔχετε αἰώνιον , τοῖς πιστεύουσιν εἰς τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ υἱοῦ τοῦ θεοῦ .
Haec scribo vobis ut sciatis quoniam vitam habetis aeternam , qui creditis in nomine Filii Dei .
ወዘንተ ጸሐፍኩ ለክሙ ከመ ታእምሩ ከመ ብክሙ ሕይወት ዘለዓለም እለ ተአምኑ በስሙ ለወልደ እግዚአብሔር ።
These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.
5:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ αὕτη ἐστὶν ἡ παρρησία ἣν ἔχομεν πρὸς αὐτόν , ὅτι ἐάν τι αἰτώμεθα κατὰ τὸ θέλημα αὐτοῦ ἀκούει ἡμῶν .
Et haec est fiducia , quam habemus ad eum : quia quodcumque petierimus , secundum voluntatem ejus , audit nos .
ወዛቲ ይእቲ እንተ ብነ ገጽ በኀበ እግዚአብሔር እስመ ዘሰአልነ ኀቤሁ በስመ ዚኣሁ ይሰምዐነ ።
This is the boldness which we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us.
5:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐὰν οἴδαμεν ὅτι ἀκούει ἡμῶν ὃ ἐὰν αἰτώμεθα , οἴδαμεν ὅτι ἔχομεν τὰ αἰτήματα ἃ ᾐτήκαμεν ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ .
Et scimus quia audit nos quidquid petierimus : scimus quoniam habemus petitiones quas postulamus ab eo .
ወእመሰ ርኢነ ከመ ዘሰአልናሁ ይሰምዐነ ነአምር እንከ ከመ ብነ ስእለት ዘሰአልነ በኀቤሁ ።
And if we know that he listens to us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.
5:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐάν τις ἴδῃ τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ ἁμαρτάνοντα ἁμαρτίαν μὴ πρὸς θάνατον , αἰτήσει , καὶ δώσει αὐτῷ ζωήν , τοῖς ἁμαρτάνουσιν μὴ πρὸς θάνατον . ἔστιν ἁμαρτία πρὸς θάνατον · οὐ περὶ ἐκείνης λέγω ἵνα ἐρωτήσῃ .
Qui scit fratrem suum peccare peccatum non ad mortem , petat , et dabitur ei vita peccanti non ad mortem . Est peccatum ad mortem : non pro illo dico ut roget quis .
ወእመሰ ቦ ዘርእዮ ለካልኡ እንዘ ይኤብስ አበሳ ዘኢኮነ ለሞት ለይስአሎ ለእግዚአብሔር ከመ ያሕይዎ ለዘይኤብስ አበሳ ዘኢኮነ ለሞት እስመ ቦ አበሳ ዘለሞት ወኢኮነ በእንቲኣሁ ዘእብል ከመ ይስአሉ ሎቱ ።
If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life for those who sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I don’t say that he should make a request concerning this.
5:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ πᾶσα ἀδικία ἁμαρτία ἐστίν , καὶ ἔστιν ἁμαρτία οὐ πρὸς θάνατον .
Omnis iniquitas , peccatum est : et est peccatum ad mortem .
እስመ ኵላ አበሳ ኀጢአት ይእቲ ወቦ ጌጋይ ዘኢኮነ ለሞት ።
All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death.
5:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ Οἴδαμεν ὅτι πᾶς ὁ γεγεννημένος ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ οὐχ ἁμαρτάνει , ἀλλ’ ὁ γεννηθεὶς ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ τηρεῖ αὐτόν , καὶ ὁ πονηρὸς οὐχ ἅπτεται αὐτοῦ .
Scimus quia omnis qui natus est ex Deo , non peccat : sed generatio Dei conservat eum , et malignus non tangit eum .
ነአምር ከመ ኵሉ ዘተወልደ እምነ እግዚአብሔር ኢይኤብስ አላ ዘተወልደ እምእግዚአብሔር የዐቅብ ርእሶ ወእኩይኒ ኢይስሕጦ ።
We know that whoever is born of God doesn’t sin, but he who was born of God keeps himself, and the evil one doesn’t touch him.
5:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ οἴδαμεν ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐσμεν , καὶ ὁ κόσμος ὅλος ἐν τῷ πονηρῷ κεῖται .
Scimus quoniam ex Deo sumus : et mundus totus in maligno positus est .
ነአምር ከመ እምእግዚአብሔር ንሕነ ወዓለምሰ ኵሉ በእኪት ይቀውም ።
We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.
5:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ οἴδαμεν δὲ ὅτι ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ ἥκει , καὶ δέδωκεν ἡμῖν διάνοιαν ἵνα γινώσκομεν τὸν ἀληθινόν · καὶ ἐσμὲν ἐν τῷ ἀληθινῷ , ἐν τῷ υἱῷ αὐτοῦ Ἰησοῦ Χριστῷ . οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ ἀληθινὸς θεὸς καὶ ζωὴ αἰώνιος .
Et scimus quoniam Filius Dei venit , et dedit nobis sensum ut cognoscamus verum Deum , et simus in vero Filio ejus . Hic est verus Deus , et vita aeterna .
ወነአምር ከመ ወልደ እግዚአብሔር መጽአ ወወሀበነ ልበ ከመ ናእምሮ ለእግዚአብሔር ዘበጽድቅ ወሀለውነ በአሚን በወልደ እግዚአብሔር በኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ውእቱ ዘበአማን እግዚአብሔር ወብነ ሕይወት ዘለዓለም ።
We know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
5:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ Τεκνία , φυλάξατε ἑαυτὰ ἀπὸ τῶν εἰδώλων .
Filioli , custodite vos a simulacris . Amen .
ባቲ ደቂቅየ ዕቀቡ ርእሰክሙ እምነ አማልክት ። መልአት መልእክተ ዮሐንስ ቀዳሚት ። ወስብሐት ለእግዚአብሔር አሜን ።
Little children, keep yourselves from idols.
