2:1
וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר־יְהֹוָ֖ה אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר׃
—
Et factum est verbum Domini ad me, dicens :
ወኮነ፡ ቃለ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ኀቤየ።
Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,
2:2
הָלֹ֡ךְ וְֽקָרָ֩אתָ֩ בְאׇזְנֵ֨י יְרוּשָׁלַ֜͏ִם לֵאמֹ֗ר כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֔ה זָכַ֤רְתִּי לָךְ֙ חֶ֣סֶד נְעוּרַ֔יִךְ אַהֲבַ֖ת כְּלוּלֹתָ֑יִךְ לֶכְתֵּ֤ךְ אַֽחֲרַי֙ בַּמִּדְבָּ֔ר בְּאֶ֖רֶץ לֹ֥א זְרוּעָֽה׃
καὶ εἶπεν τάδε λέγει κύριος ἐμνήσθην ἐλέους νεότητός σου καὶ ἀγάπης τελειώσεώς σου τοῦ ἐξακολουθῆσαί σε τῷ ἁγίῳ Ισραηλ λέγει κύριος
Vade, et clama in auribus Jerusalem, dicens : Haec dicit Dominus : Recordatus sum tui, miserans adolescentiam tuam, et caritatem desponsationis tuae, quando secuta es me in deserto, in terra quae non seminatur.
ወይቤለኒ፡ ሑር፡ ወስብክ፡ ውስተ፡ ዕዘኒሁ፡ ለኢየሩሳሌም፡ እንዘ፡ ትብል፡ ከመዝ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ እስመ፡ ተዘከርኩ፡ ምሕረተኪ፡ ዘእምንዕስኪ፡ ወፍቅረኪ፡ ዘአመ፡ ልሕቂ፡ ዘተለውኪ፡ ድኅሬየ፡ በገዳም፡ ውስተ፡ ምድር፡ ዘኢይዘራዕ።
“Go and proclaim in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, ‘Yahweh says, “I remember for you the kindness of your youth, your love as a bride, how you went after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.
2:3
קֹ֤דֶשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לַיהֹוָ֔ה רֵאשִׁ֖ית תְּבוּאָתֹ֑ה כׇּל־אֹכְלָ֣יו יֶאְשָׁ֔מוּ רָעָ֛ה תָּבֹ֥א אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם נְאֻם־יְהֹוָֽה׃ {פ}
ἅγιος Ισραηλ τῷ κυρίῳ ἀρχὴ γενημάτων αὐτοῦ πάντες οἱ ἔσθοντες αὐτὸν πλημμελήσουσιν κακὰ ἥξει ἐπ’ αὐτούς φησὶν κύριος
Sanctus Israël Domino, primitiae frugum ejus : omnes qui devorant eum delinquunt : mala venient super eos, dicit Dominus.
ቅዱስ፡ እስራኤል፡ ለእግዚአብሔር፡ ቀዳሜ፡ ማዕረሩ፡ ወኵሎሙ፡ እለ፡ ይበልዕዎ፡ ይኔስሑ፡ ወትመጽእ፡ እኪት፡ ላዕሊሆሙ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
Israel was holiness to Yahweh, the first fruits of his increase. All who devour him will be held guilty. Evil will come on them,”’ says Yahweh.”
2:4
שִׁמְע֥וּ דְבַר־יְהֹוָ֖ה בֵּ֣ית יַעֲקֹ֑ב וְכׇֽל־מִשְׁפְּח֖וֹת בֵּ֥ית יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
ἀκούσατε λόγον κυρίου οἶκος Ιακωβ καὶ πᾶσα πατριὰ οἴκου Ισραηλ
Audite verbum Domini, domus Jacob, et omnes cognationes domus Israël.
ስምዑ፡ ቃለ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ቤተ፡ ያዕቆብ፡ ወኵሉ፡ በሐውርት፡ ዘቤተ፡ እስራኤል።
Hear Yahweh’s word, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel!
2:5
כֹּ֣ה׀ אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֗ה מַה־מָּצְא֨וּ אֲבוֹתֵיכֶ֥ם בִּי֙ עָ֔וֶל כִּ֥י רָחֲק֖וּ מֵעָלָ֑י וַיֵּ֥לְכ֛וּ אַחֲרֵ֥י הַהֶ֖בֶל וַיֶּהְבָּֽלוּ׃
τάδε λέγει κύριος τί εὕροσαν οἱ πατέρες ὑμῶν ἐν ἐμοὶ πλημμέλημα ὅτι ἀπέστησαν μακρὰν ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν ὀπίσω τῶν ματαίων καὶ ἐματαιώθησαν
Haec dicit Dominus : Quid invenerunt patres vestri in me iniquitatis, quia elongaverunt a me, et ambulaverunt post vanitatem, et vani facti sunt ?
ከመዝ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ምንተ፡ ረከቡ፡ አበዊክሙ፡ ላዕሌየ፡ በዘይግዕዙኒ፡ ከመ፡ ይርኀቁ፡ እምኔ፡ ነዋኃ፡ ወሖሩ፡ ወተለው፡ ከንቶ፡ ወከንቶ፡ ኮኑ።
Yahweh says, “What unrighteousness have your fathers found in me, that they have gone far from me, and have walked after worthless vanity, and have become worthless?
2:6
וְלֹ֣א אָֽמְר֔וּ אַיֵּ֣ה יְהֹוָ֔ה הַמַּעֲלֶ֥ה אֹתָ֖נוּ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם הַמּוֹלִ֨יךְ אֹתָ֜נוּ בַּמִּדְבָּ֗ר בְּאֶ֨רֶץ עֲרָבָ֤ה וְשׁוּחָה֙ בְּאֶ֙רֶץ֙ צִיָּ֣ה וְצַלְמָ֔וֶת בְּאֶ֗רֶץ לֹא־עָ֤בַר בָּהּ֙ אִ֔ישׁ וְלֹא־יָשַׁ֥ב אָדָ֖ם שָֽׁם׃
καὶ οὐκ εἶπαν ποῦ ἐστιν κύριος ὁ ἀναγαγὼν ἡμᾶς ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου ὁ καθοδηγήσας ἡμᾶς ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ ἐν γῇ ἀπείρῳ καὶ ἀβάτῳ ἐν γῇ ἀνύδρῳ καὶ ἀκάρπῳ ἐν γῇ ἐν ᾗ οὐ διώδευσεν ἐν αὐτῇ οὐθὲν καὶ οὐ κατῴκησεν ἐκεῖ υἱὸς ἀνθρώπου
Et non dixerunt : Ubi est Dominus qui ascendere nos fecit de terra Aegypti ; qui traduxit nos per desertum, per terram inhabitabilem et inviam, per terram sitis, et imaginem mortis, per terram in qua non ambulavit vir, neque habitavit homo ?
ወኢይቤሉ፡ አይቴ፡ ውእቱ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ዘአውጽአነ፡ እምድረ፡ ግብፅ፡ ወመርሐነ፡ ወነ,መርሐነ፡ ውስተ፡ በድው፡ በብሄረ፡ ዓጽ፡ ወበምድር፡ ኀበ፡ አልቦ፡ ዕፅ፡ ዘአልቦ፡ ፍሬ፡ ብሔረ፡ ኀበ፡ ኢኬዶ፡ ሰብእ፡ ወኢይነብሮ፡ ዕጓለ፡ መሕያው።
They didn’t say, ‘Where is Yahweh who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought and of the shadow of death, through a land that no one passed through, and where no man lived?’
2:7
וָאָבִ֤יא אֶתְכֶם֙ אֶל־אֶ֣רֶץ הַכַּרְמֶ֔ל לֶאֱכֹ֥ל פִּרְיָ֖הּ וְטוּבָ֑הּ וַתָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ וַתְּטַמְּא֣וּ אֶת־אַרְצִ֔י וְנַחֲלָתִ֥י שַׂמְתֶּ֖ם לְתוֹעֵבָֽה׃
καὶ εἰσήγαγον ὑμᾶς εἰς τὸν Κάρμηλον τοῦ φαγεῖν ὑμᾶς τοὺς καρποὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ ἀγαθὰ αὐτοῦ καὶ εἰσήλθατε καὶ ἐμιάνατε τὴν γῆν μου καὶ τὴν κληρονομίαν μου ἔθεσθε εἰς βδέλυγμα
Et induxi vos in terram Carmeli, ut comederetis fructum ejus et optima illius : et ingressi contaminastis terram meam, et haereditatem meam posuistis in abominationem.
ወአብአነ፡ ውስተ፡ ከነዓን፡ ወቀርሜሎስ፡ ከመ፡ ንብላዕ፡ ፍሬሁ፡ ወበረከቶ፡ ወቦእክሙ፡ ወአርኰስክምዋ፡ ለምድርየ፡ ወአሕሰርክሙ፡ ርስትየ።
I brought you into a plentiful land to eat its fruit and its goodness; but when you entered, you defiled my land, and made my heritage an abomination.
2:8
הַכֹּהֲנִ֗ים לֹ֤א אָֽמְרוּ֙ אַיֵּ֣ה יְהֹוָ֔ה וְתֹפְשֵׂ֤י הַתּוֹרָה֙ לֹ֣א יְדָע֔וּנִי וְהָרֹעִ֖ים פָּ֣שְׁעוּ בִ֑י וְהַנְּבִאִים֙ נִבְּא֣וּ בַבַּ֔עַל וְאַחֲרֵ֥י לֹֽא־יוֹעִ֖לוּ הָלָֽכוּ׃
οἱ ἱερεῖς οὐκ εἶπαν ποῦ ἐστιν κύριος καὶ οἱ ἀντεχόμενοι τοῦ νόμου οὐκ ἠπίσταντό με καὶ οἱ ποιμένες ἠσέβουν εἰς ἐμέ καὶ οἱ προφῆται ἐπροφήτευον τῇ Βααλ καὶ ὀπίσω ἀνωφελοῦς ἐπορεύθησαν
Sacerdotes non dixerunt : Ubi est Dominus ? et tenentes legem nescierunt me, et pastores praevaricati sunt in me, et prophetae prophetaverunt in Baal, et idola secuti sunt.
ወካህናትኒ፡ ኢይቤሉ፡ አይቴ፡ ውእቱ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወእለሂ፡ ለምህሩ፡ ሕግየ፡ ወኢሐለዩኒ፡ ወኖሎትኒ፡ ዐለዉኒ፡ ወነቢያትኒ፡ ይትዌረዱ፡ ለበዓል፡ ወሖሩ፡ ወተለዉ፡ ዘኢይበቊዖሙ።
The priests didn’t say, ‘Where is Yahweh?’ and those who handle the law didn’t know me. The rulers also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal and followed things that do not profit.
2:9
לָכֵ֗ן עֹ֛ד אָרִ֥יב אִתְּכֶ֖ם נְאֻם־יְהֹוָ֑ה וְאֶת־בְּנֵ֥י בְנֵיכֶ֖ם אָרִֽיב׃
διὰ τοῦτο ἔτι κριθήσομαι πρὸς ὑμᾶς λέγει κύριος καὶ πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς τῶν υἱῶν ὑμῶν κριθήσομαι
Propterea adhuc judicio contendam vobiscum, ait Dominus, et cum filiis vestris disceptabo.
ወበበይነዝ፡ ዓዲ፡ እትዋቀሶሙ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወእሳነኖሙ፡ ለደቂቀ፡ ደቂቆሙ።
“Therefore I will yet contend with you,” says Yahweh, “and I will contend with your children’s children.
2:10
כִּ֣י עִבְר֞וּ אִיֵּ֤י כִתִּיִּים֙ וּרְא֔וּ וְקֵדָ֛ר שִׁלְח֥וּ וְהִֽתְבּוֹנְנ֖וּ מְאֹ֑ד וּרְא֕וּ הֵ֥ן הָיְתָ֖ה כָּזֹֽאת׃
διότι διέλθετε εἰς νήσους Χεττιιμ καὶ ἴδετε καὶ εἰς Κηδαρ ἀποστείλατε καὶ νοήσατε σφόδρα καὶ ἴδετε εἰ γέγονεν τοιαῦτα
Transite ad insulas Cethim, et videte : et in Cedar mittite, et considerate vehementer : et videte si factum est hujuscemodi :
ዕደዉ፡ ውስተ፡ ደስያተ፡ ኬጥኤም፡ ወፈንዉ፡ ውስተ፡ ቄዳር፡ ወጠይቁ፡ በሕቁ፡ ወርእዩ፡ እመ፡ ኮነ፡ ከመዝ።
For pass over to the islands of Kittim, and see. Send to Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there has been such a thing.
2:11
הַהֵימִ֥יר גּוֹי֙ אֱלֹהִ֔ים וְהֵ֖מָּה לֹ֣א אֱלֹהִ֑ים וְעַמִּ֛י הֵמִ֥יר כְּבוֹד֖וֹ בְּל֥וֹא יוֹעִֽיל׃
εἰ ἀλλάξονται ἔθνη θεοὺς αὐτῶν καὶ οὗτοι οὔκ εἰσιν θεοί ὁ δὲ λαός μου ἠλλάξατο τὴν δόξαν αὐτοῦ ἐξ ἧς οὐκ ὠφεληθήσονται
si mutavit gens deos suos, et certe ipsi non sunt dii : populus vero meus mutavit gloriam suam in idolum.
እመ፡ ይዌልጡ፡ አሕዛብ፡ አማልክቲሆሙ፡ እንዘኬ፡ ኢኮኑ፡ አማልክተ፡ ወሕዝብሰ፡ ወለጡ፡ ክብሮሙ፡ በዘይበቊዖሙ።
Has a nation changed its gods, which really are no gods? But my people have changed their glory for that which doesn’t profit.
2:12
שֹׁ֥מּוּ שָׁמַ֖יִם עַל־זֹ֑את וְשַׂעֲר֛וּ חׇרְב֥וּ מְאֹ֖ד נְאֻם־יְהֹוָֽה׃
ἐξέστη ὁ οὐρανὸς ἐπὶ τούτῳ καὶ ἔφριξεν ἐπὶ πλεῖον σφόδρα λέγει κύριος
Obstupescite, caeli, super hoc, et portae ejus, desolamini vehementer, dicit Dominus.
ደንገፀት፡ ሰማይ፡ በበይነዝ፡ ወአንሥጠጠት፡ በሕቁ፡ ጥቀ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
“Be astonished, you heavens, at this and be horribly afraid. Be very desolate,” says Yahweh.
2:13
כִּֽי־שְׁתַּ֥יִם רָע֖וֹת עָשָׂ֣ה עַמִּ֑י אֹתִ֨י עָזְב֜וּ מְק֣וֹר׀ מַ֣יִם חַיִּ֗ים לַחְצֹ֤ב לָהֶם֙ בֹּאר֔וֹת בֹּארֹת֙ נִשְׁבָּרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹֽא־יָכִ֖לוּ הַמָּֽיִם׃
ὅτι δύο πονηρὰ ἐποίησεν ὁ λαός μου ἐμὲ ἐγκατέλιπον πηγὴν ὕδατος ζωῆς καὶ ὤρυξαν ἑαυτοῖς λάκκους συντετριμμένους οἳ οὐ δυνήσονται ὕδωρ συνέχειν
Duo enim mala fecit populus meus : me dereliquerunt fontem aquae vivae, et foderunt sibi cisternas, cisternas dissipatas, quia continere non valent aquas.
እስመ፡ ክልዔተ፡ እከያተ፡ ገብሩ፡ ሕዝብየ፡ ኪያየ፡ ኀደጉኒ፡ ነቅዓ፡ ማይ፡ ሕይወት፡ ወከረዩ፡ ሎሙ፡ አዘቃተ፡ ንጹፋተ፡ ዘአልቦ፡ ማይ።
“For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the spring of living waters, and cut out cisterns for themselves: broken cisterns that can’t hold water.
2:14
הַעֶ֙בֶד֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אִם־יְלִ֥יד בַּ֖יִת ה֑וּא מַדּ֖וּעַ הָיָ֥ה לָבַֽז׃
μὴ δοῦλός ἐστιν Ισραηλ ἢ οἰκογενής ἐστιν διὰ τί εἰς προνομὴν ἐγένετο
Numquid servus est Israël, aut vernaculus ? quare ergo factus est in praedam ?
ቦኑ፡ ውእቱ፡ ገብር፡ ያዕቆብ፡ አውልደ፡ ቤት፡ ውእቱ፡ ለምንት፡ ኮነ፡ ፄዋ።
Is Israel a slave? Is he born into slavery? Why has he become a captive?
2:15
עָלָיו֙ יִשְׁאֲג֣וּ כְפִרִ֔ים נָתְנ֖וּ קוֹלָ֑ם וַיָּשִׁ֤יתוּ אַרְצוֹ֙ לְשַׁמָּ֔ה עָרָ֥יו (נצתה) [נִצְּת֖וּ] מִבְּלִ֥י יֹשֵֽׁב׃
ἐπ’ αὐτὸν ὠρύοντο λέοντες καὶ ἔδωκαν τὴν φωνὴν αὐτῶν οἳ ἔταξαν τὴν γῆν αὐτοῦ εἰς ἔρημον καὶ αἱ πόλεις αὐτοῦ κατεσκάφησαν παρὰ τὸ μὴ κατοικεῖσθαι
Super eum rugierunt leones, et dederunt vocem suam : posuerunt terram ejus in solitudinem. Civitates ejus exustae sunt, et non est qui habitet in eis.
ወጥህሩ፡ ላዕሌሁ፡ አንብስት፡ ወወውዑ፡ ላዕሌሁ፡ እለ፡ አማሰንዋ፡ ለብሔሩ፡ ወነሠትዎን፡ ለአህጉሪሁ፡ ወረሰይዎን፡ ከመ፡ አልቦ፡ ዘይነብሮን።
The young lions have roared at him and raised their voices. They have made his land waste. His cities are burned up, without inhabitant.
2:16
גַּם־בְּנֵי־נֹ֖ף (ותחפנס) [וְתַחְפַּנְחֵ֑ס] יִרְע֖וּךְ קׇדְקֹֽד׃
καὶ υἱοὶ Μέμφεως καὶ Ταφνας ἔγνωσάν σε καὶ κατέπαιζόν σου
Filii quoque Mempheos et Taphnes constupraverunt te usque ad verticem.
ወአእመሩኪ፡ ደቂቀኖፍ፡ ወጣፍናስ።
The children also of Memphis and Tahpanhes have broken the crown of your head.
2:17
הֲלוֹא־זֹ֖את תַּעֲשֶׂה־לָּ֑ךְ עׇזְבֵךְ֙ אֶת־יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהַ֔יִךְ בְּעֵ֖ת מוֹלִכֵ֥ךְ בַּדָּֽרֶךְ׃
οὐχὶ ταῦτα ἐποίησέν σοι τὸ καταλιπεῖν σε ἐμέ λέγει κύριος ὁ θεός σου
Numquid non istud factum est tibi, quia dereliquisti Dominum Deum tuum eo tempore quo ducebat te per viam ?
ናሁ፡ ርእዪ፡ ዘረሰየኪ፡ ኀዲገ፡ ዚአየ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አምላክኪ።
“Haven’t you brought this on yourself, in that you have forsaken Yahweh your God, when he led you by the way?
2:18
וְעַתָּ֗ה מַה־לָּךְ֙ לְדֶ֣רֶךְ מִצְרַ֔יִם לִשְׁתּ֖וֹת מֵ֣י שִׁח֑וֹר וּמַה־לָּךְ֙ לְדֶ֣רֶךְ אַשּׁ֔וּר לִשְׁתּ֖וֹת מֵ֥י נָהָֽר׃
καὶ νῦν τί σοι καὶ τῇ ὁδῷ Αἰγύπτου τοῦ πιεῖν ὕδωρ Γηων καὶ τί σοι καὶ τῇ ὁδῷ Ἀσσυρίων τοῦ πιεῖν ὕδωρ ποταμῶν
Et nunc quid tibi vis in via Aegypti, ut bibas aquam turbidam ? et quid tibi cum via Assyriorum, ut bibas aquam fluminis ?
ወይእዜኒ፡ ምንት፡ ብኪ፡ በፍኖተ፡ ግብጽ፡ ከመ፡ ትሰትዪ፡ ማየ፡ ሕሙግ፡ ትሰትዪ፡ ማየ፡ ፈለግ።
Now what do you gain by going to Egypt, to drink the waters of the Shihor? Or why do you go on the way to Assyria, to drink the waters of the River?
2:19
תְּיַסְּרֵ֣ךְ רָעָתֵ֗ךְ וּמְשֻׁבוֹתַ֙יִךְ֙ תּֽוֹכִחֻ֔ךְ וּדְעִ֤י וּרְאִי֙ כִּֽי־רַ֣ע וָמָ֔ר עׇזְבֵ֖ךְ אֶת־יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהָ֑יִךְ וְלֹ֤א פַחְדָּתִי֙ אֵלַ֔יִךְ נְאֻם־אֲדֹנָ֥י יֱהֹוִ֖ה צְבָאֽוֹת׃
παιδεύσει σε ἡ ἀποστασία σου καὶ ἡ κακία σου ἐλέγξει σε καὶ γνῶθι καὶ ἰδὲ ὅτι πικρόν σοι τὸ καταλιπεῖν σε ἐμέ λέγει κύριος ὁ θεός σου καὶ οὐκ εὐδόκησα ἐπὶ σοί λέγει κύριος ὁ θεός σου
Arguet te malitia tua, et aversio tua increpabit te. Scito et vide quia malum et amarum est reliquisse te Dominum Deum tuum, et non esse timorem mei apud te, dicit Dominus Deus exercituum.
ወይገሥጽኪ፡ ተራኅቆትኪ፡ ወይዝልፍኪ፡ እከይኪ፡ ተአምሪ፡ ወትጠይቂ፡ ከመ፡ ይመርረኪ፡ ኀዲገ፡ ዚአየ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አንላክኪ።
“Your own wickedness will correct you, and your backsliding will rebuke you. Know therefore and see that it is an evil and bitter thing, that you have forsaken Yahweh your God, and that my fear is not in you,” says the Lord, Yahweh of Armies.
2:20
כִּ֣י מֵעוֹלָ֞ם שָׁבַ֣רְתִּי עֻלֵּ֗ךְ נִתַּ֙קְתִּי֙ מוֹסְרוֹתַ֔יִךְ וַתֹּאמְרִ֖י לֹ֣א (אעבוד) [אֶעֱב֑וֹר] כִּ֣י עַֽל־כׇּל־גִּבְעָ֞ה גְּבֹהָ֗ה וְתַ֙חַת֙ כׇּל־עֵ֣ץ רַעֲנָ֔ן אַ֖תְּ צֹעָ֥ה זֹנָֽה׃
ὅτι ἀπ’ αἰῶνος συνέτριψας τὸν ζυγόν σου διέσπασας τοὺς δεσμούς σου καὶ εἶπας οὐ δουλεύσω ἀλλὰ πορεύσομαι ἐπὶ πᾶν βουνὸν ὑψηλὸν καὶ ὑποκάτω παντὸς ξύλου κατασκίου ἐκεῖ διαχυθήσομαι ἐν τῇ πορνείᾳ μου
A saeculo confregisti jugum meum : rupisti vincula mea, et dixisti : Non serviam. In omni enim colle sublimi, et sub omni ligno frondoso, tu prosternebaris meretrix.
እስመ፡ እምዓለም፡ ቀጥቀጥኩ፡ አርዑትኪ፡ ወሰበርኩ፡ መዋቅሕትኪ፡ ወሰበርኩ፡ መዋሕቅትኪ፡ ወትቤሊ፡ ኢገበርኩ፡ ዳዕሙ፡ ተሐውሪ፡ ውስተ፡ አድባር፡ ነዋኃት፡ ወታሕተ፡ ኵሉ፡ ዖም፡ ዘቦ፡ ጽላሎጽ፡ ወበህየ፡ ከዓውኪ፡ ዝሙተኪ።
“For long ago I broke off your yoke, and burst your bonds. You said, ‘I will not serve;’ for on every high hill and under every green tree you bowed yourself, playing the prostitute.
2:21
וְאָֽנֹכִי֙ נְטַעְתִּ֣יךְ שׂוֹרֵ֔ק כֻּלֹּ֖ה זֶ֣רַע אֱמֶ֑ת וְאֵיךְ֙ נֶהְפַּ֣כְתְּ לִ֔י סוּרֵ֖י הַגֶּ֥פֶן נׇכְרִיָּֽה׃
ἐγὼ δὲ ἐφύτευσά σε ἄμπελον καρποφόρον πᾶσαν ἀληθινήν πῶς ἐστράφης εἰς πικρίαν ἡ ἄμπελος ἡ ἀλλοτρία
Ego autem plantavi te vineam electam, omne semen verum : quomodo ergo conversa es mihi in pravum, vinea aliena ?
አንሰ፡ ተከልኩኪ፡ ሴሬቀ፡ እፎ፡ ኮንኪ፡ ሦከ፡ ወወይነ፡ ነኪረ።
Yet I had planted you a noble vine, a pure and faithful seed. How then have you turned into the degenerate branches of a foreign vine to me?
2:22
כִּ֤י אִם־תְּכַבְּסִי֙ בַּנֶּ֔תֶר וְתַרְבִּי־לָ֖ךְ בֹּרִ֑ית נִכְתָּ֤ם עֲוֺנֵךְ֙ לְפָנַ֔י נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֥י יֱהֹוִֽה׃
ἐὰν ἀποπλύνῃ ἐν νίτρῳ καὶ πληθύνῃς σεαυτῇ πόαν κεκηλίδωσαι ἐν ταῖς ἀδικίαις σου ἐναντίον ἐμοῦ λέγει κύριος
Si laveris te nitro, et multiplicaveris tibi herbam borith, maculata es in iniquitate tua coram me, dicit Dominus Deus.
እመ፡ ተሐዘብኪ፡ በአፋላግ፡ ወተካየድኪ፡ ኪዳነ፡ ወይትኀተም፡ ኀጢአትኪ፡ በቀቅድሜ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
For though you wash yourself with lye, and use much soap, yet your iniquity is marked before me,” says the Lord Yahweh.
2:23
אֵ֣יךְ תֹּאמְרִ֞י לֹ֣א נִטְמֵ֗אתִי אַחֲרֵ֤י הַבְּעָלִים֙ לֹ֣א הָלַ֔כְתִּי רְאִ֤י דַרְכֵּךְ֙ בַּגַּ֔יְא דְּעִ֖י מֶ֣ה עָשִׂ֑ית בִּכְרָ֥ה קַלָּ֖ה מְשָׂרֶ֥כֶת דְּרָכֶֽיהָ׃
πῶς ἐρεῖς οὐκ ἐμιάνθην καὶ ὀπίσω τῆς Βααλ οὐκ ἐπορεύθην ἰδὲ τὰς ὁδούς σου ἐν τῷ πολυανδρίῳ καὶ γνῶθι τί ἐποίησας ὀψὲ φωνὴ αὐτῆς ὠλόλυξεν τὰς ὁδοὺς αὐτῆς
Quomodo dicis : Non sum polluta ; post Baalim non ambulavi ? Vide vias tuas in convalle ; scito quid feceris : cursor levis explicans vias suas.
ወእፎ፡ ትብሊ፡ ኢረኰስኩ፡ ወኢተለውክዎ፡ ለበዓል፡ ርእ፡ ፍኖተኪ፡ ዘውስተ፡ አፍለግ፡ ወአእምሪ፡ ዘገበርኪ፡ በበሠርክ፡ ትየብቢ፡ ውስተ፡ ፍናዊሃ።
“How can you say, ‘I am not defiled. I have not gone after the Baals’? See your way in the valley. Know what you have done. You are a swift dromedary traversing her ways,
2:24
פֶּ֣רֶה׀ לִמֻּ֣ד מִדְבָּ֗ר בְּאַוַּ֤ת (נפשו) [נַפְשָׁהּ֙] שָׁאֲפָ֣ה ר֔וּחַ תַּאֲנָתָ֖הּ מִ֣י יְשִׁיבֶ֑נָּה כׇּל־מְבַקְשֶׁ֙יהָ֙ לֹ֣א יִיעָ֔פוּ בְּחׇדְשָׁ֖הּ יִמְצָאֽוּנְהָ׃
ἐπλάτυνεν ἐφ’ ὕδατα ἐρήμου ἐν ἐπιθυμίαις ψυχῆς αὐτῆς ἐπνευματοφορεῖτο παρεδόθη τίς ἐπιστρέψει αὐτήν πάντες οἱ ζητοῦντες αὐτὴν οὐ κοπιάσουσιν ἐν τῇ ταπεινώσει αὐτῆς εὑρήσουσιν αὐτήν
Onager assuetus in solitudine, in desiderio animae suae attraxit ventum amoris sui : nullus avertet eam : omnes qui quaerunt eam non deficient : in menstruis ejus invenient eam.
ወተርኅበት፡ በውስተ፡ ማያተ፡ አሕቃላት፡ በፍትወተ፡ ነፍሳ፡ ትትዌረድ፡ ወአኃዝዋ፡ ወአልቦ፡ ዘያገብኣ፡ ኵሎሙ፡ እለኀሠሥዋ፡ ኢይፃምዉ።
a wild donkey used to the wilderness, that sniffs the wind in her craving. When she is in heat, who can turn her away? All those who seek her will not weary themselves. In her month, they will find her.
2:25
מִנְעִ֤י רַגְלֵךְ֙ מִיָּחֵ֔ף (וגורנך) [וּגְרוֹנֵ֖ךְ] מִצִּמְאָ֑ה וַתֹּאמְרִ֣י נוֹאָ֔שׁ ל֕וֹא כִּֽי־אָהַ֥בְתִּי זָרִ֖ים וְאַחֲרֵיהֶ֥ם אֵלֵֽךְ׃
ἀπόστρεψον τὸν πόδα σου ἀπὸ ὁδοῦ τραχείας καὶ τὸν φάρυγγά σου ἀπὸ δίψους ἡ δὲ εἶπεν ἀνδριοῦμαι ὅτι ἠγαπήκει ἀλλοτρίους καὶ ὀπίσω αὐτῶν ἐπορεύετο
Prohibe pedem tuum a nuditate, et guttur tuum a siti. Et dixisti : Desperavi : nequaquam faciam : adamavi quippe alienos, et post eos ambulabo.
ሚጢ፡ እግረኪ፡ እምነ፡ ፍኖት፡ መብእስ፡ ወጒርዔኪኒ፡ እምነ፡ ጽምዕ፡ ወትቤ፡ አጥባእኩ፡ አንሰ፡ ወአፍቀርኩ፡ ነኪረ።
“Keep your feet from being bare, and your throat from thirst. But you said, ‘It is in vain. No, for I have loved strangers, and I will go after them.’
2:26
כְּבֹ֤שֶׁת גַּנָּב֙ כִּ֣י יִמָּצֵ֔א כֵּ֥ן הֹבִ֖ישׁוּ בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל הֵ֤מָּה מַלְכֵיהֶם֙ שָׂרֵיהֶ֔ם וְכֹהֲנֵיהֶ֖ם וּנְבִיאֵיהֶֽם׃
ὡς αἰσχύνη κλέπτου ὅταν ἁλῷ οὕτως αἰσχυνθήσονται οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ αὐτοὶ καὶ οἱ βασιλεῖς αὐτῶν καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες αὐτῶν καὶ οἱ ἱερεῖς αὐτῶν καὶ οἱ προφῆται αὐτῶν
Quomodo confunditur fur quando deprehenditur, sic confusi sunt domus Israël, ipsi et reges eorum, principes, et sacerdotes, et prophetae eorum,
ከመ፡ ኀፍረተ፡ ሰራቂ፡ ሶበ፡ ይእኅዝዎ፡ ከማሁ፡ የሐፍሩ፡ ደቂቀ፡ እስራኤል፡ እሙንቱኒ፡ ነገሥቶሙኒ፡ ወመላእክቲሆሙኒ፡ ወካህናቲሆሙኒ፡ ወነቢያቲሆሙኒ።
As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so the house of Israel is ashamed— they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets,
2:27
אֹמְרִ֨ים לָעֵ֜ץ אָ֣בִי אַ֗תָּה וְלָאֶ֙בֶן֙ אַ֣תְּ (ילדתני) [יְלִדְתָּ֔נוּ] כִּֽי־פָנ֥וּ אֵלַ֛י עֹ֖רֶף וְלֹ֣א פָנִ֑ים וּבְעֵ֤ת רָעָתָם֙ יֹֽאמְר֔וּ ק֖וּמָה וְהוֹשִׁיעֵֽנוּ׃
τῷ ξύλῳ εἶπαν ὅτι πατήρ μου εἶ σύ καὶ τῷ λίθῳ σὺ ἐγέννησάς με καὶ ἔστρεψαν ἐπ’ ἐμὲ νῶτα καὶ οὐ πρόσωπα αὐτῶν καὶ ἐν τῷ καιρῷ τῶν κακῶν αὐτῶν ἐροῦσιν ἀνάστα καὶ σῶσον ἡμᾶς
dicentes ligno : Pater meus es tu : et lapidi : Tu me genuisti. Verterunt ad me tergum et non faciem, et in tempore afflictionis suae dicent : Surge, et libera nos.
እስመ፡ ይቤልዎ፡ ለዕፅ፡ አቡነ፡ አንተ፡ ወለእብንኒ፡ ወለድከነ፡ አንተ፡ ወሜጡ፡ ዘባኖሙ፡ ኀቤየ፡ ወአኮ፡ ገጾሙ፡ ወአመሰ፡ ምንዳቤሆሙ፡ ይብሉኒ፡ ተንሥእ፡ ወአድኅነነ።
who tell wood, ‘You are my father,’ and a stone, ‘You have given birth to me,’ for they have turned their back to me, and not their face, but in the time of their trouble they will say, ‘Arise, and save us!’
2:28
וְאַיֵּ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשִׂ֣יתָ לָּ֔ךְ יָק֕וּמוּ אִם־יוֹשִׁיע֖וּךָ בְּעֵ֣ת רָעָתֶ֑ךָ כִּ֚י מִסְפַּ֣ר עָרֶ֔יךָ הָי֥וּ אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ יְהוּדָֽה׃ {ס}
καὶ ποῦ εἰσιν οἱ θεοί σου οὓς ἐποίησας σεαυτῷ εἰ ἀναστήσονται καὶ σώσουσίν σε ἐν καιρῷ τῆς κακώσεώς σου ὅτι κατ’ ἀριθμὸν τῶν πόλεών σου ἦσαν θεοί σου Ιουδα καὶ κατ’ ἀριθμὸν διόδων τῆς Ιερουσαλημ ἔθυον τῇ Βααλ
Ubi sunt dii tui quos fecisti tibi ? surgant, et liberent te in tempore afflictionis tuae : secundum numerum quippe civitatum tuarum erant dii tui, Juda.
አይቴኑመ፡ አማልክቲከ፡ ዘገበርከ፡ ለከ፡ ኢይትነሥኡኑ፡ እንከ፡ ኢያድኅኑከ፡ አመ፡ ምንዳቤከ፡ እስመ፡ በኍልቈ፡ አህጉሪከ፡ አማልክቲከ፡ ይሁዳ፡ ወበኍልቈ፡ ፍናዊሃ፡ ለኢየሩሳሌም፡ ሦዑ፡ ለበዓል።
“But where are your gods that you have made for yourselves? Let them arise, if they can save you in the time of your trouble, for you have as many gods as you have towns, O Judah.
2:29
לָ֥מָּה תָרִ֖יבוּ אֵלָ֑י כֻּלְּכֶ֛ם פְּשַׁעְתֶּ֥ם בִּ֖י נְאֻם־יְהֹוָֽה׃
ἵνα τί λαλεῖτε πρός με πάντες ὑμεῖς ἠσεβήσατε καὶ πάντες ὑμεῖς ἠνομήσατε εἰς ἐμέ λέγει κύριος
Quid vultis mecum judicio contendere ? omnes dereliquistis me, dicit Dominus.
ለምንት፡ ትነብቡኒ፡ ናሁ፡ ኵልክሙ፡ ዓለውክሙኒ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
“Why will you contend with me? You all have transgressed against me,” says Yahweh.
2:30
לַשָּׁוְא֙ הִכֵּ֣יתִי אֶת־בְּנֵיכֶ֔ם מוּסָ֖ר לֹ֣א לָקָ֑חוּ אָכְלָ֧ה חַרְבְּכֶ֛ם נְבִיאֵיכֶ֖ם כְּאַרְיֵ֥ה מַשְׁחִֽית׃
μάτην ἐπάταξα τὰ τέκνα ὑμῶν παιδείαν οὐκ ἐδέξασθε μάχαιρα κατέφαγεν τοὺς προφήτας ὑμῶν ὡς λέων ὀλεθρεύων καὶ οὐκ ἐφοβήθητε
Frustra percussi filios vestros : disciplinam non receperunt. Devoravit gladius vester prophetas vestros : quasi leo vastator
በከ፡ ለከንቱ፡ ቀተልክምዎሙ፡ ለደቂቅክሙ፡ ወኢተወከፍክሙ፡ ተግሣጽየ፡ ወለነቢያቲክሙኒ፡ በልዐቶሙ፡ መጥባሕትየ፡ ከመ፡ አንበሳ፡ ዘይሤሩ፡ ወበዝኒ፡ ኢፈራሀረከረሙኒ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
“I have struck your children in vain. They received no correction. Your own sword has devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.
2:31
הַדּ֗וֹר אַתֶּם֙ רְא֣וּ דְבַר־יְהֹוָ֔ה הֲמִדְבָּ֤ר הָיִ֙יתִי֙ לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אִ֛ם אֶ֥רֶץ מַאְפֵּ֖לְיָ֑ה מַדּ֜וּעַ אָמְר֤וּ עַמִּי֙ רַ֔דְנוּ לֽוֹא־נָב֥וֹא ע֖וֹד אֵלֶֽיךָ׃
ἀκούσατε λόγον κυρίου τάδε λέγει κύριος μὴ ἔρημος ἐγενόμην τῷ Ισραηλ ἢ γῆ κεχερσωμένη διὰ τί εἶπεν ὁ λαός μου οὐ κυριευθησόμεθα καὶ οὐχ ἥξομεν πρὸς σὲ ἔτι
generatio vestra. Videte verbum Domini : numquid solitudo factus sum Israëli, aut terra serotina ? quare ergo dixit populus meus : Recessimus ; non veniemus ultra ad te ?
ስምዑ፡ ቃለ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ከመዝ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ መዝበረኑ፡ ኮንክዎሙ፡ ለደቂቀ፡ እስራኤል፡ አው፡ ምድረ፡ በድው፡ እስመ፡ ይቤሉ፡ ሕዝብየ፡ ኢንትቀነይ፡ ለከ፡ ወኢንመጽእ፡ እንከ፡ ኀቤከ።
Generation, consider Yahweh’s word. Have I been a wilderness to Israel? Or a land of thick darkness? Why do my people say, ‘We have broken loose. We will come to you no more’?
2:32
הֲתִשְׁכַּ֤ח בְּתוּלָה֙ עֶדְיָ֔הּ כַּלָּ֖ה קִשֻּׁרֶ֑יהָ וְעַמִּ֣י שְׁכֵח֔וּנִי יָמִ֖ים אֵ֥ין מִסְפָּֽר׃
μὴ ἐπιλήσεται νύμφη τὸν κόσμον αὐτῆς καὶ παρθένος τὴν στηθοδεσμίδα αὐτῆς ὁ δὲ λαός μου ἐπελάθετό μου ἡμέρας ὧν οὐκ ἔστιν ἀριθμός
Numquid obliviscetur virgo ornamenti sui, aut sponsa fasciae pectoralis suae ? populus vero meus oblitus est mei diebus innumeris.
ትረሥዕኑ፡ መርዓት፡ ሠርጓ፡ ወድንግል፡ ባዝግናሃ፡ ሕዝብየሰ፡ ረሥዑኒ፡ መዋዕለ፡ ዘአልቦ፡ ኁልቊ።
“Can a virgin forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? Yet my people have forgotten me for days without number.
2:33
מַה־תֵּיטִ֥בִי דַרְכֵּ֖ךְ לְבַקֵּ֣שׁ אַהֲבָ֑ה לָכֵן֙ גַּ֣ם אֶת־הָרָע֔וֹת (למדתי) [לִמַּ֖דְתְּ] אֶת־דְּרָכָֽיִךְ׃
τί ἔτι καλὸν ἐπιτηδεύσεις ἐν ταῖς ὁδοῖς σου τοῦ ζητῆσαι ἀγάπησιν οὐχ οὕτως ἀλλὰ καὶ σὺ ἐπονηρεύσω τοῦ μιᾶναι τὰς ὁδούς σου
Quid niteris bonam ostendere viam tuam ad quaerendam dilectionem, quae insuper et malitias tuas docuisti vias tuas,
ምንት፡ እንከ፡ ዓዲ፡ ሠናይ፡ ዘትፈቅድ፡ በፍናዊከ፡ ከመ፡ ትኅሥሥ፡ ተፋቅሮ፡ አኮ፡ ከመዝ፡ ዓዲ፡ አንተሂ፡ አሕሰምከ፡ ከመ፡ ታርኵስ፡ ፍናዊከ።
How well you prepare your way to seek love! Therefore you have even taught the wicked women your ways.
2:34
גַּ֤ם בִּכְנָפַ֙יִךְ֙ נִמְצְא֔וּ דַּ֛ם נַפְשׁ֥וֹת אֶבְיוֹנִ֖ים נְקִיִּ֑ים לֹֽא־בַמַּחְתֶּ֥רֶת מְצָאתִ֖ים כִּ֥י עַל־כׇּל־אֵֽלֶּה׃
καὶ ἐν ταῖς χερσίν σου εὑρέθησαν αἵματα ψυχῶν ἀθῴων οὐκ ἐν διορύγμασιν εὗρον αὐτούς ἀλλ’ ἐπὶ πάσῃ δρυί
et in alis tuis inventus est sanguis animarum pauperum et innocentum ? non in fossis inveni eos, sed in omnibus quae supra memoravi.
ወተረክበ፡ ውስተ፡ እደዊከ፡ ከመ፡ እጓለማውታ፡ ወደመ፡ ነፍስ፡ ንጹሕ፡ ወአኮ፡ ውስተ፡ ግብ፡ ዘረከብክዎሙ፡ ዳዕሙ፡ ውስተ፡ ዖም።
Also the blood of the souls of the innocent poor is found in your skirts. You didn’t find them breaking in, but it is because of all these things.
2:35
וַתֹּֽאמְרִי֙ כִּ֣י נִקֵּ֔יתִי אַ֛ךְ שָׁ֥ב אַפּ֖וֹ מִמֶּ֑נִּי הִנְנִי֙ נִשְׁפָּ֣ט אוֹתָ֔ךְ עַל־אׇמְרֵ֖ךְ לֹ֥א חָטָֽאתִי׃
καὶ εἶπας ἀθῷός εἰμι ἀλλὰ ἀποστραφήτω ὁ θυμὸς αὐτοῦ ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ κρίνομαι πρὸς σὲ ἐν τῷ λέγειν σε οὐχ ἥμαρτον
Et dixisti : Absque peccato et innocens ego sum, et propterea avertatur furor tuus a me. Ecce ego judicio contendam tecum, eo quod dixeris : Non peccavi.
ወትብሊ፡ ንጹሕ፡ አነ፡ ዳዕሙ፡ ይትመየጥ፡ መዓቱ፡ እምኔየ፡ ናሁ፡ አነ፡ እትዋቀሰኪ።
“Yet you said, ‘I am innocent. Surely his anger has turned away from me.’ “Behold, I will judge you, because you say, ‘I have not sinned.’
2:36
מַה־תֵּזְלִ֥י מְאֹ֖ד לְשַׁנּ֣וֹת אֶת־דַּרְכֵּ֑ךְ גַּ֤ם מִמִּצְרַ֙יִם֙ תֵּבֹ֔שִׁי כַּאֲשֶׁר־בֹּ֖שְׁתְּ מֵאַשּֽׁוּר׃
τί κατεφρόνησας σφόδρα τοῦ δευτερῶσαι τὰς ὁδούς σου καὶ ἀπὸ Αἰγύπτου καταισχυνθήσῃ καθὼς κατῃσχύνθης ἀπὸ Ασσουρ
Quam vilis facta es nimis, iterans vias tuas ! et ab Aegypto confunderis, sicut confusa es ab Assur.
እስመ፡ ትብሊ፡ ኢአበስኩ፡ እስመ፡ አስተአበድክኒ፡ ጥቀ፡ ወአመክዓብኪ፡ ፍናውኪ፡ ወበግብፅ፡ ተሐፈርኪ፡ በከመ፡ ተሐፈርኪ፡ በአሦር።
Why do you go about so much to change your ways? You will be ashamed of Egypt also, as you were ashamed of Assyria.
2:37
גַּ֣ם מֵאֵ֥ת זֶה֙ תֵּֽצְאִ֔י וְיָדַ֖יִךְ עַל־רֹאשֵׁ֑ךְ כִּֽי־מָאַ֤ס יְהֹוָה֙ בְּמִבְטַחַ֔יִךְ וְלֹ֥א תַצְלִ֖יחִי לָהֶֽם׃
ὅτι καὶ ἐντεῦθεν ἐξελεύσῃ καὶ αἱ χεῖρές σου ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς σου ὅτι ἀπώσατο κύριος τὴν ἐλπίδα σου καὶ οὐκ εὐοδωθήσῃ ἐν αὐτῇ
Nam et ab ista egredieris, et manus tuae erunt super caput tuum : quoniam obtrivit Dominus confidentiam tuam, et nihil habebis prosperum in ea.
እምዝየ፡ ትወፅኢ፡ ወእደውኪ፡ ዲበ፡ ርእስኪ፡ እስመ፡ አቅበጸኪ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ተስፋኪ፡ ወኢትረክቢ።
You will also leave that place with your hands on your head; for Yahweh has rejected those in whom you trust, and you won’t prosper with them.
