38:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּשְׁמַ֞ע שְׁפַטְיָ֣ה בֶן ־מַתָּ֗ן וּגְדַלְיָ֙הוּ֙ בֶּן ־פַּשְׁח֔וּר וְיוּכַל֙ בֶּן ־שֶׁ֣לֶמְיָ֔הוּ וּפַשְׁח֖וּר בֶּן ־מַלְכִּיָּ֑ה אֶ֨ת ־הַדְּבָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֧ר יִרְמְיָ֛הוּ מְדַבֵּ֥ר אֶל ־כׇּל ־הָעָ֖ם לֵאמֹֽר ׃
ἐν τῷ χρόνῳ ἐκείνῳ εἶπεν κύριος ἔσομαι εἰς θεὸν τῷ γένει Ισραηλ καὶ αὐτοὶ ἔσονταί μοι εἰς λαόν
Audivit autem Saphatias filius Mathan , et Gedelias filius Phassur , et Juchal filius Selemiae , et Phassur filius Melchiae , sermones quos Jeremias loquebatur ad omnem populum , dicens :
ወሰምዐ ፡ ሰፎንያስ ፡ ወልደ ፡ ናታን ፡ ወጎዶልያ ፡ ወልደ ፡ ጳስኮር ፡ ወዮአክል ፡ ወልደ ፡ ሴሌምዩ ፡ ወጳስኮር ፡ ወልደ ፡ ሜልያ ፡ ነገረ ፡ ዘነገረ ፡ ኤርምያስ ፡ ለኵሉ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ ወይብል ።
Shephatiah the son of Mattan, Gedaliah the son of Pashhur, Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur the son of Malchijah heard the words that Jeremiah spoke to all the people, saying,
38:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ כֹּה֮ אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָה֒ הַיֹּשֵׁב֙ בָּעִ֣יר הַזֹּ֔את יָמ֕וּת בַּחֶ֖רֶב בָּרָעָ֣ב וּבַדָּ֑בֶר וְהַיֹּצֵ֤א אֶל ־הַכַּשְׂדִּים֙ (יחיה ) [וְחָיָ֔ה ] וְהָיְתָה ־לּ֥וֹ נַפְשׁ֛וֹ לְשָׁלָ֖ל וָחָֽי ׃ {ס}
οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος εὗρον θερμὸν ἐν ἐρήμῳ μετὰ ὀλωλότων ἐν μαχαίρᾳ βαδίσατε καὶ μὴ ὀλέσητε τὸν Ισραηλ
Haec dicit Dominus : Quicumque manserit in civitate hac , morietur gladio , et fame , et peste : qui autem profugerit ad Chaldaeos , vivet , et erit anima ejus sospes et vivens .
ከመዝ ፡ ይቤ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ዘኀደረ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ዛሀገር ፡ ይመውት ፡ በኵናት ፡ ወረኃብ ፡ ወብድብድ ፡ ወዘወፅአ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ከለዳውያን ፡ የሐዩ ፡ ወትከውን ፡ ነፍሱ ፡ ምርካበ ፡ ወየሐዩ ።
“Yahweh says, ‘He who remains in this city will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, but he who goes out to the Chaldeans will live. He will escape with his life and he will live.’
38:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ כֹּ֖ה אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֑ה הִנָּתֹ֨ן תִּנָּתֵ֜ן הָעִ֣יר הַזֹּ֗את בְּיַ֛ד חֵ֥יל מֶלֶךְ ־בָּבֶ֖ל וּלְכָדָֽהּ ׃
κύριος πόρρωθεν ὤφθη αὐτῷ ἀγάπησιν αἰωνίαν ἠγάπησά σε διὰ τοῦτο εἵλκυσά σε εἰς οἰκτίρημα
Haec dicit Dominus : Tradendo tradetur civitas haec in manu exercitus regis Babylonis , et capiet eam .
እስመ ፡ ከመዝ ፡ ይቤ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ተውህቦ ፡ ትትወሀብ ፡ ዛቲ ፡ ሀገር ፡ ውስተ ፡ እደ ፡ ንጉሠ ፡ ባቢሎን ፡ ወይነሥኣ ።
Yahweh says, ‘This city will surely be given into the hand of the army of the king of Babylon, and he will take it.’”
38:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּאמְר֨וּ הַשָּׂרִ֜ים אֶל ־הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ י֣וּמַת נָא֮ אֶת ־הָאִ֣ישׁ הַזֶּה֒ כִּֽי ־עַל ־כֵּ֡ן הֽוּא ־מְרַפֵּ֡א אֶת ־יְדֵי֩ אַנְשֵׁ֨י הַמִּלְחָמָ֜ה הַֽנִּשְׁאָרִ֣ים ׀ בָּעִ֣יר הַזֹּ֗את וְאֵת֙ יְדֵ֣י כׇל ־הָעָ֔ם לְדַבֵּ֣ר אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם כַּדְּבָרִ֖ים הָאֵ֑לֶּה כִּ֣י ׀ הָאִ֣ישׁ הַזֶּ֗ה אֵינֶ֨נּוּ דֹרֵ֧שׁ לְשָׁל֛וֹם לָעָ֥ם הַזֶּ֖ה כִּ֥י אִם ־לְרָעָֽה ׃
ἔτι οἰκοδομήσω σε καὶ οἰκοδομηθήσῃ παρθένος Ισραηλ ἔτι λήμψῃ τύμπανόν σου καὶ ἐξελεύσῃ μετὰ συναγωγῆς παιζόντων
Et dixerunt principes regi : Rogamus ut occidatur homo iste : de industria enim dissolvit manus virorum bellantium qui remanserunt in civitate hac , et manus universi populi , loquens ad eos juxta verba haec : siquidem homo iste non quaerit pacem populo huic , sed malum .
ወይቤልዎ ፡ መላእክት ፡ ለንጉሥ ፡ ይሙት ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ ብእሲ ፡ እስመ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ያደክም ፡ እደወ ፡ ሰብእ ፡ ጸባእያን ፡ ተረፈ ፡ ሀገር ፡ ወእደወ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ ዘነገሮሙ ፡ ውእተ ፡ ነገረ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ብእሲ ፡ ኢየኀሥሥ ፡ ሰላመ ፡ ለዝንቱ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ ዘእንበለ ፡ እኩይ ።
Then the princes said to the king, “Please let this man be put to death, because he weakens the hands of the men of war who remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words to them; for this man doesn’t seek the welfare of this people, but harm.”
38:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ צִדְקִיָּ֔הוּ הִנֵּה ־ה֖וּא בְּיֶדְכֶ֑ם כִּֽי ־אֵ֣ין הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ יוּכַ֥ל אֶתְכֶ֖ם דָּבָֽר ׃
ἔτι φυτεύσατε ἀμπελῶνας ἐν ὄρεσιν Σαμαρείας φυτεύσατε καὶ αἰνέσατε
Et dixit rex Sedecias : Ecce ipse in manibus vestris est : nec enim fas est regem vobis quidquam negare .
ወይቤ ፡ ንጉሥ ፡ ሴዴቅያስ ፡ ናሁ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ በእዴክሙ ።
Zedekiah the king said, “Behold, he is in your hand; for the king can’t do anything to oppose you.”
38:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּקְח֣וּ אֶֽת ־יִרְמְיָ֗הוּ וַיַּשְׁלִ֨כוּ אֹת֜וֹ אֶל ־הַבּ֣וֹר ׀ מַלְכִּיָּ֣הוּ בֶן ־הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ אֲשֶׁר֙ בַּחֲצַ֣ר הַמַּטָּרָ֔ה וַיְשַׁלְּח֥וּ אֶֽת ־יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ בַּחֲבָלִ֑ים וּבַבּ֤וֹר אֵֽין ־מַ֙יִם֙ כִּ֣י אִם ־טִ֔יט וַיִּטְבַּ֥ע יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ בַּטִּֽיט ׃ {ס}
ὅτι ἔστιν ἡμέρα κλήσεως ἀπολογουμένων ἐν ὄρεσιν Εφραιμ ἀνάστητε καὶ ἀνάβητε εἰς Σιων πρὸς κύριον τὸν θεὸν ἡμῶν
Tulerunt ergo Jeremiam , et projecerunt eum in lacum Melchiae filii Amelech , qui erat in vestibulo carceris : et submiserunt Jeremiam funibus in lacum , in quo non erat aqua , sed lutum : descendit itaque Jeremias in coenum .
ወነሥእዎ ፡ ለኤርምያስ ፡ ወገደፍዎ ፡ ለውእቱ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ዓዘቅተ ፡ ሜልኪዩ ፡ ወልደ ፡ ንጉሥ ፡ ዘበዐፀደ ፡ ሞቅሕ ፡ አውረድዎ ፡ ለኤርምያስ ፡ በአሕባል ።
Then they took Jeremiah and threw him into the dungeon of Malchijah the king’s son, that was in the court of the guard. They let down Jeremiah with cords. In the dungeon there was no water, but mire; and Jeremiah sank in the mire.
38:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּשְׁמַ֡ע עֶבֶד ־מֶ֨לֶךְ הַכּוּשִׁ֜י אִ֣ישׁ סָרִ֗יס וְהוּא֙ בְּבֵ֣ית הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ כִּֽי ־נָתְנ֥וּ אֶֽת ־יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ אֶל ־הַבּ֑וֹר וְהַמֶּ֥לֶךְ יוֹשֵׁ֖ב בְּשַׁ֥עַר בִּנְיָמִֽן ׃
ὅτι οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος τῷ Ιακωβ εὐφράνθητε καὶ χρεμετίσατε ἐπὶ κεφαλὴν ἐθνῶν ἀκουστὰ ποιήσατε καὶ αἰνέσατε εἴπατε ἔσωσεν κύριος τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ τὸ κατάλοιπον τοῦ Ισραηλ
Audivit autem Abdemelech Aethiops , vir eunuchus , qui erat in domo regis , quod misissent Jeremiam in lacum . Porro rex sedebat in porta Benjamin :
ወሰምዐ ፡ አቤሜሌክ ፡ ኢትዮጵያዊ ፡ ብእሲ ፡ ሕፅው ፡ ወውእቱ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ቤቱ ፡ ለንጉሥ ፡ ከመ ፡ ወሀብዎ ፡ ለኤርምያስ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ዓዘቅት ፡ ወንጉሥሰ ፡ ይነብር ፡ በዴዴ ፡ ብንያም ።
Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, a eunuch, who was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon (the king was then sitting in Benjamin’s gate),
38:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֵּצֵ֥א עֶבֶד ־מֶ֖לֶךְ מִבֵּ֣ית הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר אֶל ־הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ לֵאמֹֽר ׃
ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἄγω αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ βορρᾶ καὶ συνάξω αὐτοὺς ἀπ’ ἐσχάτου τῆς γῆς ἐν ἑορτῇ φασεκ καὶ τεκνοποιήσῃ ὄχλον πολύν καὶ ἀποστρέψουσιν ὧδε
et egressus est Abdemelech de domo regis , et locutus est ad regem , dicens :
ወወፅአ ፡ አቤሜሌክ ፡ እምቤተ ፡ ንጉሥ ፡ ወነገረ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ንጉሥ ፡ ወይቤ ።
Ebedmelech went out of the king’s house, and spoke to the king, saying,
38:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ אֲדֹנִ֣י הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ הֵרֵ֜עוּ הָאֲנָשִׁ֤ים הָאֵ֙לֶּה֙ אֵ֣ת כׇּל ־אֲשֶׁ֤ר עָשׂוּ֙ לְיִרְמְיָ֣הוּ הַנָּבִ֔יא אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר ־הִשְׁלִ֖יכוּ אֶל ־הַבּ֑וֹר וַיָּ֤מׇת תַּחְתָּיו֙ מִפְּנֵ֣י הָרָעָ֔ב כִּ֣י אֵ֥ין הַלֶּ֛חֶם ע֖וֹד בָּעִֽיר ׃
ἐν κλαυθμῷ ἐξῆλθον καὶ ἐν παρακλήσει ἀνάξω αὐτοὺς αὐλίζων ἐπὶ διώρυγας ὑδάτων ἐν ὁδῷ ὀρθῇ καὶ οὐ μὴ πλανηθῶσιν ἐν αὐτῇ ὅτι ἐγενόμην τῷ Ισραηλ εἰς πατέρα καὶ Εφραιμ πρωτότοκός μού ἐστιν
Domine mi rex , male fecerunt viri isti omnia quaecumque perpetrarunt contra Jeremiam prophetam , mittentes eum in lacum , ut moriatur ibi fame : non sunt enim panes ultra in civitate .
እግዚእየ ፡ ንጉሥ ፡ አሕሠሙ ፡ እሉ ፡ ዕደው ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ዘገብሩ ፡ በኤርምያስ ፡ ነቢይ ፡ እለ ፡ ገደፍዎ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ዓዘቅት ፡ ይሙት ፡ በህየ ፡ እምገጸ ፡ ረኃብ ፡ እስመ ፡ አልቦ ፡ ዓዲ ፡ ኅብስት ፡ በሀገር ።
“My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon. He is likely to die in the place where he is, because of the famine; for there is no more bread in the city.”
38:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיְצַוֶּ֣ה הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ אֵ֛ת עֶבֶד ־מֶ֥לֶךְ הַכּוּשִׁ֖י לֵאמֹ֑ר קַ֣ח בְּיָדְךָ֤ מִזֶּה֙ שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים אֲנָשִׁ֔ים וְֽהַעֲלִ֜יתָ אֶֽת ־יִרְמְיָ֧הוּ הַנָּבִ֛יא מִן ־הַבּ֖וֹר בְּטֶ֥רֶם יָמֽוּת ׃
ἀκούσατε λόγον κυρίου ἔθνη καὶ ἀναγγείλατε εἰς νήσους τὰς μακρότερον εἴπατε ὁ λικμήσας τὸν Ισραηλ συνάξει αὐτὸν καὶ φυλάξει αὐτὸν ὡς ὁ βόσκων τὸ ποίμνιον αὐτοῦ
Praecepit itaque rex Abdemelech Aethiopi , dicens : Tolle tecum hinc triginta viros , et leva Jeremiam prophetam de lacu , antequam moriatur .
ወአዘዞ ፡ ንጉሥ ፡ ለአቤሜሌክ ፡ ኢትዮጵያዊ ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ንሣእ ፡ በእደዊከ ፡ እምዚአየ ፡ ፴ሰብአ ፡ ወአውፅኦ ፡ ለኤርምያስ ፡ ነቢይ ፡ እምዓዘቅት ፡ ዘእንበለ ፡ ይሙት ።
Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, “Take from here thirty men with you, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he dies.”
38:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּקַּ֣ח ׀ עֶבֶד ־מֶ֨לֶךְ אֶת ־הָאֲנָשִׁ֜ים בְּיָד֗וֹ וַיָּבֹ֤א בֵית ־הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ אֶל ־תַּ֣חַת הָאוֹצָ֔ר וַיִּקַּ֤ח מִשָּׁם֙ בְּלוֹיֵ֣ (הסחבות ) [סְחָב֔וֹת ] וּבְלוֹיֵ֖ מְלָחִ֑ים וַיְשַׁלְּחֵ֧ם אֶֽל ־יִרְמְיָ֛הוּ אֶל ־הַבּ֖וֹר בַּחֲבָלִֽים ׃
ὅτι ἐλυτρώσατο κύριος τὸν Ιακωβ ἐξείλατο αὐτὸν ἐκ χειρὸς στερεωτέρων αὐτοῦ
Assumptis ergo Abdemelech secum viris , ingressus est domum regis , quae erat sub cellario , et tulit inde veteres pannos , et antiqua quae computruerant , et submisit ea ad Jeremiam in lacum per funiculos .
ወነሥአ ፡ አቤሜሌክ ፡ ሰብአ ፡ በእዴሁ ፡ ወቦአ ፡ ቤተ ፡ ንጉሥ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ቤተ ፡ መዛግብት ፡ ወነሥአ ፡ እምህየ ፡ አፅርቅተ ፡ ብሉየ ፡ ወአሕባለ ፡ ብሉየ ፡ ወወገረ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ኤርምያስ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ዓዘቅት ፡ በአሕባል ።
So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took from there rags and worn-out garments, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah.
38:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֡אמֶר עֶבֶד ־מֶ֨לֶךְ הַכּוּשִׁ֜י אֶֽל ־יִרְמְיָ֗הוּ שִׂ֣ים נָ֠א בְּלוֹאֵ֨י הַסְּחָב֤וֹת וְהַמְּלָחִים֙ תַּ֚חַת אַצִּל֣וֹת יָדֶ֔יךָ מִתַּ֖חַת לַחֲבָלִ֑ים וַיַּ֥עַשׂ יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ כֵּֽן ׃
καὶ ἥξουσιν καὶ εὐφρανθήσονται ἐν τῷ ὄρει Σιων καὶ ἥξουσιν ἐπ’ ἀγαθὰ κυρίου ἐπὶ γῆν σίτου καὶ οἴνου καὶ καρπῶν καὶ κτηνῶν καὶ προβάτων καὶ ἔσται ἡ ψυχὴ αὐτῶν ὥσπερ ξύλον ἔγκαρπον καὶ οὐ πεινάσουσιν ἔτι
Dixitque Abdemelech Aethiops ad Jeremiam : Pone veteres pannos , et haec scissa et putrida , sub cubito manuum tuarum , et super funes . Fecit ergo Jeremias sic ,
ወይቤሎ ፡ አቤሜሌክ ፡ ኢትዮጵያዊ ፡ ለኤርምያስ ፡ ደይ ፡ አፅርቅተ ፡ ወአሕባለ ፡ ታሕተ ፡ እዴከ ፡ ወታሕተ ፡ አሕባል ፡ ወገብረ ፡ ኤርምያስ ፡ ከመዝ ።
Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah, “Now put these rags and worn-out garments under your armpits under the cords.” Jeremiah did so.
38:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּמְשְׁכ֤וּ אֶֽת ־יִרְמְיָ֙הוּ֙ בַּחֲבָלִ֔ים וַיַּעֲל֥וּ אֹת֖וֹ מִן ־הַבּ֑וֹר וַיֵּ֣שֶׁב יִרְמְיָ֔הוּ בַּחֲצַ֖ר הַמַּטָּרָֽה ׃ {ס}
τότε χαρήσονται παρθένοι ἐν συναγωγῇ νεανίσκων καὶ πρεσβῦται χαρήσονται καὶ στρέψω τὸ πένθος αὐτῶν εἰς χαρμονὴν καὶ ποιήσω αὐτοὺς εὐφραινομένους
et extraxerunt Jeremiam funibus , et eduxerunt eum de lacu : mansit autem Jeremias in vestibulo carceris .
ወሰሐብዎ ፡ በአሕባል ፡ ወአውፅእዎ ፡ እምዓዘቅት ፡ ወነበረ ፡ ኤርምያስ ፡ በዐፀደ ፡ ሞቅሕ ።
So they lifted Jeremiah up with the cords, and took him up out of the dungeon; and Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.
38:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּשְׁלַ֞ח הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ צִדְקִיָּ֗הוּ וַיִּקַּ֞ח אֶֽת ־יִרְמְיָ֤הוּ הַנָּבִיא֙ אֵלָ֔יו אֶל ־מָבוֹא֙ הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֔י אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּבֵ֣ית יְהֹוָ֑ה וַיֹּ֨אמֶר הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ אֶֽל ־יִרְמְיָ֗הוּ שֹׁאֵ֨ל אֲנִ֤י אֹֽתְךָ֙ דָּבָ֔ר אַל ־תְּכַחֵ֥ד מִמֶּ֖נִּי דָּבָֽר ׃
μεγαλυνῶ καὶ μεθύσω τὴν ψυχὴν τῶν ἱερέων υἱῶν Λευι καὶ ὁ λαός μου τῶν ἀγαθῶν μου ἐμπλησθήσεται
Et misit rex Sedecias , et tulit ad se Jeremiam prophetam ad ostium tertium quod erat in domo Domini : et dixit rex ad Jeremiam : Interrogo ego te sermonem , ne abscondas a me aliquid .
ወፈነወ ፡ ንጉሥ ፡ ሴዴቅያስ ፡ ወነሥኦ ፡ ለኤርምያስ ፡ ነቢይ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ምብዋእ ፡ ሣልሳይ ፡ ዘቤተ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ።
Then Zedekiah the king sent and took Jeremiah the prophet to himself into the third entry that is in Yahweh’s house. Then the king said to Jeremiah, “I will ask you something. Hide nothing from me.”
38:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יִרְמְיָ֙הוּ֙ אֶל ־צִדְקִיָּ֔הוּ כִּ֚י אַגִּ֣יד לְךָ֔ הֲל֖וֹא הָמֵ֣ת תְּמִיתֵ֑נִי וְכִי֙ אִיעָ֣צְךָ֔ לֹ֥א תִשְׁמַ֖ע אֵלָֽי ׃
οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος φωνὴ ἐν Ραμα ἠκούσθη θρήνου καὶ κλαυθμοῦ καὶ ὀδυρμοῦ Ραχηλ ἀποκλαιομένη οὐκ ἤθελεν παύσασθαι ἐπὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτῆς ὅτι οὐκ εἰσίν
Dixit autem Jeremias ad Sedeciam : Si annuntiavero tibi , numquid non interficies me ? et si consilium dedero tibi , non me audies .
ወይቤሎ ፡ ኤርምያስ ፡ ለሴዴቅያስ ፡ ንጉሥ ፡ እመ ፡ አይዳዕኩከ ፡ ሞተ ፡ እመውት ፡ ወለእመ ፡ አምከርኩከ ፡ ኢትሰምዑኒ ።
Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, “If I declare it to you, will you not surely put me to death? If I give you counsel, you will not listen to me.”
38:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּשָּׁבַ֞ע הַמֶּ֧לֶךְ צִדְקִיָּ֛הוּ אֶֽל ־יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ בַּסֵּ֣תֶר לֵאמֹ֑ר חַי ־יְהֹוָ֞ה (את ) אֲשֶׁר֩ עָשָׂה ־לָ֨נוּ אֶת ־הַנֶּ֤פֶשׁ הַזֹּאת֙ אִם ־אֲמִיתֶ֔ךָ וְאִם ־אֶתֶּנְךָ֗ בְּיַד֙ הָאֲנָשִׁ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה אֲשֶׁ֥ר מְבַקְשִׁ֖ים אֶת ־נַפְשֶֽׁךָ ׃ {ס}
οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος διαλιπέτω ἡ φωνή σου ἀπὸ κλαυθμοῦ καὶ οἱ ὀφθαλμοί σου ἀπὸ δακρύων σου ὅτι ἔστιν μισθὸς τοῖς σοῖς ἔργοις καὶ ἐπιστρέψουσιν ἐκ γῆς ἐχθρῶν
Juravit ergo rex Sedecias Jeremiae clam , dicens : Vivit Dominus , qui fecit nobis animam hanc , si occidero te , et si tradidero te in manus virorum istorum qui quaerunt animam tuam .
ወመሐለ ፡ ንጉሥ ፡ ሴዴቅያስ ፡ ለኤርምያስ ፡ በኅቢእ ፡ ወይቤ ፡ ሕያው ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ዘገብረ ፡ ለነ ፡ ዛተ ፡ ነፍሰ ፡ ከመ ፡ አይቀትለከ ፡ ወኢይሁበከ ፡ ውስተ ፡ እደ ፡ እሉ ፡ ሰብእ ፡ እለ ፡ የኀሥሥዋ ፡ ለነፍስከ ።
So Zedekiah the king swore secretly to Jeremiah, saying, “As Yahweh lives, who made our souls, I will not put you to death, neither will I give you into the hand of these men who seek your life.”
38:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יִרְמְיָ֣הוּ אֶל ־צִדְקִיָּ֡הוּ {ס} כֹּה ־אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָה֩ אֱלֹהֵ֨י צְבָא֜וֹת אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל אִם ־יָצֹ֨א תֵצֵ֜א אֶל ־שָׂרֵ֤י מֶֽלֶךְ ־בָּבֶל֙ וְחָיְתָ֣ה נַפְשֶׁ֔ךָ וְהָעִ֣יר הַזֹּ֔את לֹ֥א תִשָּׂרֵ֖ף בָּאֵ֑שׁ וְחָיִ֖תָה אַתָּ֥ה וּבֵיתֶֽךָ ׃
μόνιμον τοῖς σοῖς τέκνοις
Et dixit Jeremias ad Sedeciam : Haec dicit Dominus exercituum , Deus Israël : Si profectus exieris ad principes regis Babylonis , vivet anima tua , et civitas haec non succendetur igni : et salvus eris tu , et domus tua .
ወይቤሎ ፡ ኤርምያስ ፡ ለሴዴቅያስ ፡ ከመዝ ፡ ይቤ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ጸባኦት ፡ አምላከ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ እመ ፡ ወፂአ ፡ ወፃእከ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ንጉሠ ፡ ባቢሎን ፡ ተሐዩ ፡ ሕይወተ ፡ ነፍስከ ፡ ወዝንቱ ፡ ሀገር ፡ ኢይውዒ ፡ በእሳት ፡ ወተሐዩ ፡ አንተ ፡ ወቤትከ ።
Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, “Yahweh, the God of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you will go out to the king of Babylon’s princes, then your soul will live, and this city will not be burned with fire. You will live, along with your house.
38:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְאִ֣ם לֹֽא ־תֵצֵ֗א אֶל ־שָׂרֵי֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ בָּבֶ֔ל וְנִתְּנָ֞ה הָעִ֤יר הַזֹּאת֙ בְּיַ֣ד הַכַּשְׂדִּ֔ים וּשְׂרָפ֖וּהָ בָּאֵ֑שׁ וְאַתָּ֖ה לֹא ־תִמָּלֵ֥ט מִיָּדָֽם ׃ {ס}
ἀκοὴν ἤκουσα Εφραιμ ὀδυρομένου ἐπαίδευσάς με καὶ ἐπαιδεύθην ἐγώ ὥσπερ μόσχος οὐκ ἐδιδάχθην ἐπίστρεψόν με καὶ ἐπιστρέψω ὅτι σὺ κύριος ὁ θεός μου
Si autem non exieris ad principes regis Babylonis , tradetur civitas haec in manus Chaldaeorum , et succendent eam igni : et tu non effugies de manu eorum .
ወእመ ፡ ኢወፃእከ ፡ ኀበ ፡ መላእክተ ፡ ንጉሠ ፡ ባቢሎን ፡ ትትወሀብ ፡ ዛቲ ፡ ሀገር ፡ በእደ ፡ ከለዳውያን ፡ ወትውዒ ፡ በእሳት ፡ ወእንተሂ ፡ ኢትድኅን ፡ እምእዴሆሙ ።
But if you will not go out to the king of Babylon’s princes, then this city will be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they will burn it with fire, and you won’t escape out of their hand.’”
38:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֛אמֶר הַמֶּ֥לֶךְ צִדְקִיָּ֖הוּ אֶֽל ־יִרְמְיָ֑הוּ אֲנִ֧י דֹאֵ֣ג אֶת ־הַיְּהוּדִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֤ר נָֽפְלוּ֙ אֶל ־הַכַּשְׂדִּ֔ים פֶּֽן ־יִתְּנ֥וּ אֹתִ֛י בְּיָדָ֖ם וְהִתְעַלְּלוּ ־בִֽי ׃
ὅτι ὕστερον αἰχμαλωσίας μου μετενόησα καὶ ὕστερον τοῦ γνῶναί με ἐστέναξα ἐφ’ ἡμέρας αἰσχύνης καὶ ὑπέδειξά σοι ὅτι ἔλαβον ὀνειδισμὸν ἐκ νεότητός μου
Et dixit rex Sedecias ad Jeremiam : Sollicitus sum propter Judaeos qui transfugerunt ad Chaldaeos , ne forte tradar in manus eorum , et illudant mihi .
ወይቤሎ ፡ ንጉሥ ፡ ሴዴቅያስ ፡ ለኤርምያስ ፡ አነ ፡ እፈርሆሙ ፡ ለአይሁድ ፡ ዘአምሠጡ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ከለዳውያን ፡ ከመ ፡ ኢያግብኡኒ ፡ ውስተ ፡ እደዊሆሙ ፡ ወኢይሣለቁኒ ።
Zedekiah the king said to Jeremiah, “I am afraid of the Jews who have defected to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me.”
38:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ לֹ֣א יִתֵּ֑נוּ שְֽׁמַֽע ־נָ֣א ׀ בְּק֣וֹל יְהֹוָ֗ה לַאֲשֶׁ֤ר אֲנִי֙ דֹּבֵ֣ר אֵלֶ֔יךָ וְיִ֥יטַב לְךָ֖ וּתְחִ֥י נַפְשֶֽׁךָ ׃
υἱὸς ἀγαπητὸς Εφραιμ ἐμοί παιδίον ἐντρυφῶν ὅτι ἀνθ’ ὧν οἱ λόγοι μου ἐν αὐτῷ μνείᾳ μνησθήσομαι αὐτοῦ διὰ τοῦτο ἔσπευσα ἐπ’ αὐτῷ ἐλεῶν ἐλεήσω αὐτόν φησὶν κύριος
Respondit autem Jeremias : Non te tradent . Audi , quaeso , vocem Domini , quam ego loquor ad te , et bene tibi erit , et vivet anima tua .
ወይቤ ፡ ኤርምያስ ፡ ኢይሁቡከ ፡ ስማዕ ፡ ቃለ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ዘአነ ፡ እብል ፡ ኀቤከ ፡ ዘይኄይስ ፡ ይከውን ፡ ኀቤከ ፡ ወነፍስከ ፡ ለሕይወት ።
But Jeremiah said, “They won’t deliver you. Obey, I beg you, Yahweh’s voice, in that which I speak to you; so it will be well with you, and your soul will live.
38:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְאִם ־מָאֵ֥ן אַתָּ֖ה לָצֵ֑את זֶ֣ה הַדָּבָ֔ר אֲשֶׁ֥ר הִרְאַ֖נִי יְהֹוָֽה ׃
στῆσον σεαυτήν Σιων ποίησον τιμωρίαν δὸς καρδίαν σου εἰς τοὺς ὤμους ὁδὸν ἣν ἐπορεύθης ἀποστράφητι παρθένος Ισραηλ ἀποστράφητι εἰς τὰς πόλεις σου πενθοῦσα
Quod si nolueris egredi , iste est sermo quem ostendit mihi Dominus :
ወእመ ፡ ኢትፈቅድ ፡ አንተ ፡ ወፂአ ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ ቃል ፡ ዘአርአየኒ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ።
But if you refuse to go out, this is the word that Yahweh has shown me:
38:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְהִנֵּ֣ה כׇל ־הַנָּשִׁ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֤ר נִשְׁאֲרוּ֙ בְּבֵ֣ית מֶֽלֶךְ ־יְהוּדָ֔ה מוּצָא֕וֹת אֶל ־שָׂרֵ֖י מֶ֣לֶךְ בָּבֶ֑ל וְהֵ֣נָּה אֹמְרֹ֗ת הִסִּית֜וּךָ וְיָכְל֤וּ לְךָ֙ אַנְשֵׁ֣י שְׁלֹמֶ֔ךָ הׇטְבְּע֥וּ בַבֹּ֛ץ רַגְלֶ֖ךָ נָסֹ֥גוּ אָחֽוֹר ׃
ἕως πότε ἀποστρέψεις θυγάτηρ ἠτιμωμένη ὅτι ἔκτισεν κύριος σωτηρίαν εἰς καταφύτευσιν καινήν ἐν σωτηρίᾳ περιελεύσονται ἄνθρωποι
ecce omnes mulieres quae remanserunt in domo regis Juda educentur ad principes regis Babylonis , et ipsae dicent : Seduxerunt te , et praevaluerunt adversum te , viri pacifici tui : demerserunt in coeno et in lubrico pedes tuos , et recesserunt a te .
ወናሁ ፡ ኵሎን ፡ አንስት ፡ እለ ፡ ተርፋ ፡ ቤተ ፡ ንጉሠ ፡ ይሁዳ ፡ ይወፅኣ ፡ ኀበ ፡ መላእክተ ፡ ንጉሠ ፡ ባቢሎን ፡ እማንቱ ፡ ይብላከ ፡ አስሐቱከ ፡ ወክህሉከ ፡ ዕደወ ፡ ሰላምከ ፡ ወያገብኡከ ፡ ውስተ ፡ መአስረ ፡ እገሪከ ፡ ወገብኡ ፡ ድኅረ ፡ እምኔከ ።
‘Behold, all the women who are left in the king of Judah’s house will be brought out to the king of Babylon’s princes, and those women will say, “Your familiar friends have turned on you, and have prevailed over you. Your feet are sunk in the mire, they have turned away from you.”
38:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְאֶת ־כׇּל ־נָשֶׁ֣יךָ וְאֶת ־בָּנֶ֗יךָ מֽוֹצִאִים֙ אֶל ־הַכַּשְׂדִּ֔ים וְאַתָּ֖ה לֹא ־תִמָּלֵ֣ט מִיָּדָ֑ם כִּ֣י בְיַ֤ד מֶֽלֶךְ ־בָּבֶל֙ תִּתָּפֵ֔שׂ וְאֶת ־הָעִ֥יר הַזֹּ֖את תִּשְׂרֹ֥ף בָּאֵֽשׁ ׃ {ס}
οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος ἔτι ἐροῦσιν τὸν λόγον τοῦτον ἐν γῇ Ιουδα καὶ ἐν πόλεσιν αὐτοῦ ὅταν ἀποστρέψω τὴν αἰχμαλωσίαν αὐτοῦ εὐλογημένος κύριος ἐπὶ δίκαιον ὄρος τὸ ἅγιον αὐτοῦ
Et omnes uxores tuae et filii tui educentur ad Chaldaeos : et non effugies manus eorum , sed in manu regis Babylonis capieris , et civitatem hanc comburet igni .
ወለኵሎሙ ፡ አንስቲያከ ፡ ወለደቂቅከ ፡ ያወፅእዎሙ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ከለዳውያን ።
They will bring out all your wives and your children to the Chaldeans. You won’t escape out of their hand, but will be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon. You will cause this city to be burned with fire.’”
38:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר צִדְקִיָּ֜הוּ אֶֽל ־יִרְמְיָ֗הוּ אִ֛ישׁ אַל ־יֵדַ֥ע בַּדְּבָֽרִים ־הָאֵ֖לֶּה וְלֹ֥א תָמֽוּת ׃
καὶ ἐνοικοῦντες ἐν ταῖς πόλεσιν Ιουδα καὶ ἐν πάσῃ τῇ γῇ αὐτοῦ ἅμα γεωργῷ καὶ ἀρθήσεται ἐν ποιμνίῳ
Dixit ergo Sedecias ad Jeremiam : Nullus sciat verba haec , et non morieris .
ወይቤሎ ፡ ንጉሥ ፡ ሴዴቅያስ ፡ ለኤርምያስ ፡ ብእሲ ፡ ኢያእምር ፡ ዘንተ ፡ ቃለ ፡ ወአንተ ፡ ኢትሙት ።
Then Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, “Let no man know of these words, and you won’t die.
38:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְכִֽי ־יִשְׁמְע֣וּ הַשָּׂרִים֮ כִּי ־דִבַּ֣רְתִּי אִתָּךְ֒ וּבָ֣אוּ אֵלֶ֣יךָ וְֽאָמְר֪וּ אֵלֶ֟יךָ הַגִּידָה ־נָּ֨א לָ֜נוּ מַה ־דִּבַּ֧רְתָּ אֶל ־הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ אַל ־תְּכַחֵ֥ד מִמֶּ֖נּוּ וְלֹ֣א נְמִיתֶ֑ךָ וּמַה ־דִּבֶּ֥ר אֵלֶ֖יךָ הַמֶּֽלֶךְ ׃
ὅτι ἐμέθυσα πᾶσαν ψυχὴν διψῶσαν καὶ πᾶσαν ψυχὴν πεινῶσαν ἐνέπλησα
Si autem audierint principes quia locutus sum tecum , et venerint ad te , et dixerint tibi : Indica nobis quid locutus sis cum rege : ne celes nos , et non te interficiemus : et quid locutus est tecum rex :
ወእመ ፡ ሰምዑ ፡ መላእክት ፡ ከመ ፡ ተናገርኩ ፡ ምስሌከ ፡ ወመጽኡ ፡ ኀቤከ ፡ ይብሉከ ፡ ንግረነ ፡ እስኩ ፡ ምንተ ፡ ነገርኮ ፡ ለንጉሥ ፡ ወምንተ ፡ ተናገረከ ፡ ኢትኅባእ ፡ እምኔነ ፡ ወኢንቀትለከ ።
But if the princes hear that I have talked with you, and they come to you, and tell you, ‘Declare to us now what you have said to the king; don’t hide it from us, and we will not put you to death; also tell us what the king said to you;’
38:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם מַפִּיל ־אֲנִ֥י תְחִנָּתִ֖י לִפְנֵ֣י הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ לְבִלְתִּ֧י הֲשִׁיבֵ֛נִי בֵּ֥ית יְהוֹנָתָ֖ן לָמ֥וּת שָֽׁם ׃ {פ}
διὰ τοῦτο ἐξηγέρθην καὶ εἶδον καὶ ὁ ὕπνος μου ἡδύς μοι ἐγενήθη
dices ad eos : Prostravi ego preces meas coram rege , ne me reduci juberet in domum Jonathan , et ibi morerer .
ወበሎሙ ፡ እገድፍ ፡ አነ ፡ ምሕረትየ ፡ መንገለ ፡ አዕይንተ ፡ ንጉሥ ፡ ከመ ፡ ኢያግብአኒ ፡ ቤተ ፡ ዮናታን ፡ ከመ ፡ ኢይሙት ፡ በህየ ።
then you shall tell them, ‘I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan’s house, to die there.’”
38:27 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיָּבֹ֨אוּ כׇל ־הַשָּׂרִ֤ים אֶֽל ־יִרְמְיָ֙הוּ֙ וַיִּשְׁאֲל֣וּ אֹת֔וֹ וַיַּגֵּ֤ד לָהֶם֙ כְּכׇל ־הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה אֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוָּ֖ה הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיַּחֲרִ֣שׁוּ מִמֶּ֔נּוּ כִּ֥י לֹֽא ־נִשְׁמַ֖ע הַדָּבָֽר ׃
διὰ τοῦτο ἰδοὺ ἡμέραι ἔρχονται φησὶν κύριος καὶ σπερῶ τὸν Ισραηλ καὶ τὸν Ιουδαν σπέρμα ἀνθρώπου καὶ σπέρμα κτήνους
Venerunt ergo omnes principes ad Jeremiam , et interrogaverunt eum , et locutus est eis juxta omnia verba quae praeceperat ei rex : et cessaverunt ab eo : nihil enim fuerat auditum .
ወመጽኡ ፡ ኵሎሙ ፡ መላእክት ፡ ኀበ ፡ ኤርምያስ ፡ ወተሰአልዎ ።
Then all the princes came to Jeremiah, and asked him; and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they stopped speaking with him, for the matter was not perceived.
38:28 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֵּ֤שֶׁב יִרְמְיָ֙הוּ֙ בַּחֲצַ֣ר הַמַּטָּרָ֔ה עַד ־י֖וֹם אֲשֶׁר ־נִלְכְּדָ֣ה יְרוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם {ס} וְהָיָ֕ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר נִלְכְּדָ֖ה יְרוּשָׁלָֽ͏ִם ׃
καὶ ἔσται ὥσπερ ἐγρηγόρουν ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς καθαιρεῖν καὶ κακοῦν οὕτως γρηγορήσω ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς τοῦ οἰκοδομεῖν καὶ καταφυτεύειν φησὶν κύριος
Mansit vero Jeremias in vestibulo carceris usque ad diem quo capta est Jerusalem : et factum est ut caperetur Jerusalem .
ወነበረ ፡ ኤርምያስ ፡ በዐፀደ ፡ ሞቅሕ ፡ እስከ ፡ ዕለተ ፡ ተእኅዘት ፡ ኢየሩሳሌም ።
So Jeremiah stayed in the court of the guard until the day that Jerusalem was taken.
38:29 ⧉ ⤴︎ — ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις οὐ μὴ εἴπωσιν οἱ πατέρες ἔφαγον ὄμφακα καὶ οἱ ὀδόντες τῶν τέκνων ᾑμωδίασαν
— — In those days they shall no longer say: The fathers ate a sour grape, and the children's teeth were set on edge.
38:30 ⧉ ⤴︎ — ἀλλ’ ἢ ἕκαστος ἐν τῇ ἑαυτοῦ ἁμαρτίᾳ ἀποθανεῖται καὶ τοῦ φαγόντος τὸν ὄμφακα αἱμωδιάσουσιν οἱ ὀδόντες αὐτοῦ
— — But rather each shall die in his own sin; and the teeth of him who eats the sour grape shall be set on edge.
38:31 ⧉ ⤴︎ — ἰδοὺ ἡμέραι ἔρχονται φησὶν κύριος καὶ διαθήσομαι τῷ οἴκῳ Ισραηλ καὶ τῷ οἴκῳ Ιουδα διαθήκην καινήν
— — Behold, days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make with the house of Israel and with the house of Iouda a new covenant;
38:32 ⧉ ⤴︎ — οὐ κατὰ τὴν διαθήκην ἣν διεθέμην τοῖς πατράσιν αὐτῶν ἐν ἡμέρᾳ ἐπιλαβομένου μου τῆς χειρὸς αὐτῶν ἐξαγαγεῖν αὐτοὺς ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου ὅτι αὐτοὶ οὐκ ἐνέμειναν ἐν τῇ διαθήκῃ μου καὶ ἐγὼ ἠμέλησα αὐτῶν φησὶν κύριος
— — not according to the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day when I took hold of their hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; for they did not remain in my covenant, and I was unconcerned for them, says the Lord.
38:33 ⧉ ⤴︎ — ὅτι αὕτη ἡ διαθήκη ἣν διαθήσομαι τῷ οἴκῳ Ισραηλ μετὰ τὰς ἡμέρας ἐκείνας φησὶν κύριος διδοὺς δώσω νόμους μου εἰς τὴν διάνοιαν αὐτῶν καὶ ἐπὶ καρδίας αὐτῶν γράψω αὐτούς καὶ ἔσομαι αὐτοῖς εἰς θεόν καὶ αὐτοὶ ἔσονταί μοι εἰς λαόν
— — For this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will surely put my laws into their mind, and upon their hearts I will write them; and I will be God to them, and they shall be my people.
38:34 ⧉ ⤴︎ — καὶ οὐ μὴ διδάξωσιν ἕκαστος τὸν πολίτην αὐτοῦ καὶ ἕκαστος τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ λέγων γνῶθι τὸν κύριον ὅτι πάντες εἰδήσουσίν με ἀπὸ μικροῦ αὐτῶν καὶ ἕως μεγάλου αὐτῶν ὅτι ἵλεως ἔσομαι ταῖς ἀδικίαις αὐτῶν καὶ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν αὐτῶν οὐ μὴ μνησθῶ ἔτι
— — And they shall no longer teach, each his fellow citizen and each his brother, saying: Know the Lord; for all shall know me, from the least of them to the greatest of them; for I will be merciful to their injustices, and their sins I will remember no more.
38:35 ⧉ ⤴︎ — ἐὰν ὑψωθῇ ὁ οὐρανὸς εἰς τὸ μετέωρον φησὶν κύριος καὶ ἐὰν ταπεινωθῇ τὸ ἔδαφος τῆς γῆς κάτω καὶ ἐγὼ οὐκ ἀποδοκιμῶ τὸ γένος Ισραηλ φησὶν κύριος περὶ πάντων ὧν ἐποίησαν
— — If the heaven can be raised to the height, says the Lord, and if the floor of the earth can be lowered below, then I too will not reject the family of Israel, says the Lord, for all that they have done.
38:36 ⧉ ⤴︎ — οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος ὁ δοὺς τὸν ἥλιον εἰς φῶς τῆς ἡμέρας σελήνην καὶ ἀστέρας εἰς φῶς τῆς νυκτός καὶ κραυγὴν ἐν θαλάσσῃ καὶ ἐβόμβησεν τὰ κύματα αὐτῆς κύριος παντοκράτωρ ὄνομα αὐτῷ
— — Thus said the Lord, who gave the sun for light of the day, the moon and the stars for light of the night, and a roar in the sea, and its waves resounded; the Lord Almighty is his name.
38:37 ⧉ ⤴︎ — ἐὰν παύσωνται οἱ νόμοι οὗτοι ἀπὸ προσώπου μου φησὶν κύριος καὶ τὸ γένος Ισραηλ παύσεται γενέσθαι ἔθνος κατὰ πρόσωπόν μου πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας
— — If these ordinances can cease from before me, says the Lord, then the family of Israel too shall cease to be a nation before me all the days.
38:38 ⧉ ⤴︎ — ἰδοὺ ἡμέραι ἔρχονται φησὶν κύριος καὶ οἰκοδομηθήσεται πόλις τῷ κυρίῳ ἀπὸ πύργου Αναμεηλ ἕως πύλης τῆς γωνίας
— — Behold, days are coming, says the Lord, when the city shall be built for the Lord from the tower of Anameel to the gate of the corner.
38:39 ⧉ ⤴︎ — καὶ ἐξελεύσεται ἡ διαμέτρησις αὐτῆς ἀπέναντι αὐτῶν ἕως βουνῶν Γαρηβ καὶ περικυκλωθήσεται κύκλῳ ἐξ ἐκλεκτῶν λίθων
— — And its measuring line shall go out opposite them as far as the hills of Gareb, and it shall be encircled round about with choice stones.
38:40 ⧉ ⤴︎ — καὶ πάντες ασαρημωθ ἕως ναχαλ Κεδρων ἕως γωνίας πύλης ἵππων ἀνατολῆς ἁγίασμα τῷ κυρίῳ καὶ οὐκέτι οὐ μὴ ἐκλίπῃ καὶ οὐ μὴ καθαιρεθῇ ἕως τοῦ αἰῶνος
— — And the whole of asaremoth as far as nachal Kedron, as far as the corner of the gate of horses toward the east, shall be a holy place to the Lord; and it shall never again be uprooted, nor shall it be pulled down for ever.
