29:1
וַיֹּ֣סֶף אִ֭יּוֹב שְׂאֵ֥ת מְשָׁל֗וֹ וַיֹּאמַֽר׃
ἔτι δὲ προσθεὶς Ιωβ εἶπεν τῷ προοιμίῳ
Addidit quoque Job, assumens parabolam suam, et dixit :
ወደገመ፡ ኢዮብ፡ ወይቤ።
Job again took up his parable, and said,
29:2
מִֽי־יִתְּנֵ֥נִי כְיַרְחֵי־קֶ֑דֶם כִּ֝ימֵ֗י אֱל֣וֹהַּ יִשְׁמְרֵֽנִי׃
τίς ἄν με θείη κατὰ μῆνα ἔμπροσθεν ἡμερῶν ὧν με ὁ θεὸς ἐφύλαξεν
Quis mihi tribuat ut sim juxta menses pristinos, secundum dies quibus Deus custodiebat me ?
መኑ፡ እምአግብአኒ፡ ውስተ፡ መዋዕለ፡ አውራኅየ፡ ዘትካት፡ ከመ፡ አመ፡ ዓቀበኒ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
“Oh that I were as in the months of old, as in the days when God watched over me;
29:3
בְּהִלּ֣וֹ נֵ֭רוֹ עֲלֵ֣י רֹאשִׁ֑י לְ֝אוֹר֗וֹ אֵ֣לֶךְ חֹֽשֶׁךְ׃
ὡς ὅτε ηὔγει ὁ λύχνος αὐτοῦ ὑπὲρ κεφαλῆς μου ὅτε τῷ φωτὶ αὐτοῦ ἐπορευόμην ἐν σκότει
Quando splendebat lucerna ejus super caput meum, et ad lumen ejus ambulabam in tenebris :
ወከመ፡ ይበርህ፡ ማኅቶት፡ በትርአስየ፡ ወአመ፡ አሐውር፡ በብርሃኑ፡ ውስተ፡ ጽልመት።
when his lamp shone on my head, and by his light I walked through darkness,
29:4
כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר הָ֭יִיתִי בִּימֵ֣י חׇרְפִּ֑י בְּס֥וֹד אֱ֝ל֗וֹהַּ עֲלֵ֣י אׇהֳלִֽי׃
ὅτε ἤμην ἐπιβρίθων ὁδοῖς ὅτε ὁ θεὸς ἐπισκοπὴν ἐποιεῖτο τοῦ οἴκου μου
sicut fui in diebus adolescentiae meae, quando secreto Deus erat in tabernaculo meo :
ወአመ፡ ሀሎኩ፡ ውስተ፡ ኵሉ፡ በረከት፡ ወአመ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ይሄውጽ፡ ቤትየ።
as I was in my prime, when the friendship of God was in my tent,
29:5
בְּע֣וֹד שַׁ֭דַּי עִמָּדִ֑י סְבִ֖יבוֹתַ֣י נְעָרָֽי׃
ὅτε ἤμην ὑλώδης λίαν κύκλῳ δέ μου οἱ παῖδες
quando erat Omnipotens mecum, et in circuitu meo pueri mei :
ወአመ፡ ጽፉቅ፡ ንዋይየ፡ ወበዓውድየ፡ አግብርትየ።
when the Almighty was yet with me, and my children were around me,
29:6
בִּרְחֹ֣ץ הֲלִיכַ֣י בְּחֵמָ֑ה וְצ֥וּר יָצ֥וּק עִ֝מָּדִ֗י פַּלְגֵי־שָֽׁמֶן׃
ὅτε ἐχέοντό μου αἱ ὁδοὶ βουτύρῳ τὰ δὲ ὄρη μου ἐχέοντο γάλακτι
quando lavabam pedes meos butyro, et petra fundebat mihi rivos olei :
ወአመ፡ ይውኅዝ፡ ቅብዕ፡ ውስተ፡ ፍናውየ፡ ወአመ፡ ይትከዓው፡ ሐሊብ፡ ውስተ፡ አድባርየ።
when my steps were washed with butter, and the rock poured out streams of oil for me,
29:7
בְּצֵ֣אתִי שַׁ֣עַר עֲלֵי־קָ֑רֶת בָּ֝רְח֗וֹב אָכִ֥ין מוֹשָׁבִֽי׃
ὅτε ἐξεπορευόμην ὄρθριος ἐν πόλει ἐν δὲ πλατείαις ἐτίθετό μου ὁ δίφρος
quando procedebam ad portam civitatis, et in platea parabant cathedram mihi.
ወአመ፡ እገይሥ፡ በግርማ፡ ሀገርየ፡ ወአነብር፡ መንበርየ፡ ውሰተ፡ መርኅብ።
when I went out to the city gate, when I prepared my seat in the street.
29:8
רָא֣וּנִי נְעָרִ֣ים וְנֶחְבָּ֑אוּ וִ֝ישִׁישִׁ֗ים קָ֣מוּ עָמָֽדוּ׃
ἰδόντες με νεανίσκοι ἐκρύβησαν πρεσβῦται δὲ πάντες ἔστησαν
Videbant me juvenes, et abscondebantur : et senes assurgentes stabant.
ይሬዩኒ፡ ወራዙት፡ ወይትኀብኡኒ፡ ወይጸንሑኒ፡ ኵሎሙ፡ ሊዋውንት።
The young men saw me and hid themselves. The aged rose up and stood.
29:9
שָׂ֭רִים עָצְר֣וּ בְמִלִּ֑ים וְ֝כַ֗ף יָשִׂ֥ימוּ לְפִיהֶֽם׃
ἁδροὶ δὲ ἐπαύσαντο λαλοῦντες δάκτυλον ἐπιθέντες ἐπὶ στόματι
Principes cessabant loqui, et digitum superponebant ori suo.
ወኃያልንሂ፡ ይትፈፀሙ፡ ወኢይነብቡ፡ ወያጠውቁ፡ አፉ፡ ሆሙ፡ በእደዊሆሙ።
The princes refrained from talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.
29:10
קוֹל־נְגִידִ֥ים נֶחְבָּ֑אוּ וּ֝לְשׁוֹנָ֗ם לְחִכָּ֥ם דָּבֵֽקָה׃
οἱ δὲ ἀκούσαντες ἐμακάρισάν με καὶ γλῶσσα αὐτῶν τῷ λάρυγγι αὐτῶν ἐκολλήθη
Vocem suam cohibebant duces, et lingua eorum gutturi suo adhaerebat.
ወያስተበፅዑኒ፡ እለ፡ ሰንዑኒ፡ ወይጠግዕ፡ ልሳኖሙ፡ በጕርዔሆሙ።
The voice of the nobles was hushed, and their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth.
29:11
כִּ֤י אֹ֣זֶן שָׁ֭מְעָה וַֽתְּאַשְּׁרֵ֑נִי וְעַ֥יִן רָ֝אֲתָ֗ה וַתְּעִידֵֽנִי׃
ὅτι οὖς ἤκουσεν καὶ ἐμακάρισέν με ὀφθαλμὸς δὲ ἰδών με ἐξέκλινεν
Auris audiens beatificabat me, et oculus videns testimonium reddebat mihi :
ወዕዝን፡ እንተ፡ ሰማዓተኒ፡ ታስተበፅዓኒ፡ ወዓይን፡ እንተ፡ ርእየተኒ፡ ትትሬሠየኒ።
For when the ear heard me, then it blessed me, and when the eye saw me, it commended me,
29:12
כִּֽי־אֲ֭מַלֵּט עָנִ֣י מְשַׁוֵּ֑עַ וְ֝יָת֗וֹם וְֽלֹא־עֹזֵ֥ר לֽוֹ׃
διέσωσα γὰρ πτωχὸν ἐκ χειρὸς δυνάστου καὶ ὀρφανῷ ᾧ οὐκ ἦν βοηθός ἐβοήθησα
eo quod liberassem pauperem vociferantem, et pupillum cui non esset adjutor.
እስመ፡ ቸድኃንኩ፡ ነዳየ፡ እምእደ፡ ዘይትዔገሎ፡ ወረዳእኩ፡ እጓለ፡ ማውታ፡ ዘአልቦ፡ ረዳኢ።
because I delivered the poor who cried, and the fatherless also, who had no one to help him,
29:13
בִּרְכַּ֣ת אֹ֭בֵד עָלַ֣י תָּבֹ֑א וְלֵ֖ב אַלְמָנָ֣ה אַרְנִֽן׃
εὐλογία ἀπολλυμένου ἐπ’ ἐμὲ ἔλθοι στόμα δὲ χήρας με εὐλόγησεν
Benedictio perituri super me veniebat, et cor viduae consolatus sum.
ወደኃረኒ፡ ይመውት፡ ወባረከኒ፡ አፈ፡ ዕቤራት።
the blessing of him who was ready to perish came on me, and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.
29:14
צֶ֣דֶק לָ֭בַשְׁתִּי וַיִּלְבָּשֵׁ֑נִי כִּֽמְעִ֥יל וְ֝צָנִ֗יף מִשְׁפָּטִֽי׃
δικαιοσύνην δὲ ἐνεδεδύκειν ἠμφιασάμην δὲ κρίμα ἴσα διπλοΐδι
Justitia indutus sum, et vestivi me, sicut vestimento et diademate, judicio meo.
ወለበስክዋ፡ ለጽድቅ፡ ወተረሠይኩ፡ ርትዐ፡ ከመ፡ ዓጽፍ፡ ወተቀጸልክዋ፡ ለፍትሕ።
I put on righteousness, and it clothed me. My justice was as a robe and a diadem.
29:15
עֵינַ֣יִם הָ֭יִיתִי לַעִוֵּ֑ר וְרַגְלַ֖יִם לַפִּסֵּ֣חַ אָֽנִי׃
ὀφθαλμὸς ἤμην τυφλῶν ποὺς δὲ χωλῶν
Oculus fui caeco, et pes claudo.
ወኮንክዎሙ፡ ዓይነ፡ ለዕውራን፡ ወእግረ፡ ለስቡራን።
I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame.
29:16
אָ֣ב אָ֭נֹכִֽי לָאֶבְיוֹנִ֑ים וְרִ֖ב לֹא־יָדַ֣עְתִּי אֶחְקְרֵֽהוּ׃
ἐγὼ ἤμην πατὴρ ἀδυνάτων δίκην δέ ἣν οὐκ ᾔδειν ἐξιχνίασα
Pater eram pauperum, et causam quam nesciebam diligentissime investigabam.
አነ፡ ውእቱ፡ አበ፡ ምስኪናን፡ ወተኃሠሥኩ፡ ለዘኢየአምር፡ ቅስተ።
I was a father to the needy. I researched the cause of him whom I didn’t know.
29:17
וָ֭אֲשַׁבְּרָה מְתַלְּע֣וֹת עַוָּ֑ל וּ֝מִשִּׁנָּ֗יו אַשְׁלִ֥יךְ טָֽרֶף׃
συνέτριψα δὲ μύλας ἀδίκων ἐκ δὲ μέσου τῶν ὀδόντων αὐτῶν ἅρπαγμα ἐξέσπασα
Conterebam molas iniqui, et de dentibus illius auferebam praedam.
ወሰበርኩ፡ ስነኒሆሙ፡ ለዓማዕያን፡ ወአንገፍክዎሙ፡ እማእከለ፡ ጥረሲሆሙ፡ ዘመሰጡ።
I broke the jaws of the unrighteous and plucked the prey out of his teeth.
29:18
וָ֭אֹמַר עִם־קִנִּ֣י אֶגְוָ֑ע וְ֝כַח֗וֹל אַרְבֶּ֥ה יָמִֽים׃
εἶπα δέ ἡ ἡλικία μου γηράσει ὥσπερ στέλεχος φοίνικος πολὺν χρόνον βιώσω
Dicebamque : In nidulo meo moriar, et sicut palma multiplicabo dies.
ወተሐዘብኩሰ፡ እልኃቅ፡ ወእርሳዕ፡ ወእሕየው፡ ጕንዱየ፡ ዓመታተ፡ ከመ፡ ነዋኅ፡ በቀልተ፡ ተመርት፡ ወከመ፡ ኆፃ፡ አበዝኅ፡ መዋዕለ።
Then I said, ‘I will die in my own house, I will count my days as the sand.
29:19
שׇׁרְשִׁ֣י פָת֣וּחַ אֱלֵי־מָ֑יִם וְ֝טַ֗ל יָלִ֥ין בִּקְצִירִֽי׃
ἡ ῥίζα μου διήνοικται ἐπὶ ὕδατος καὶ δρόσος αὐλισθήσεται ἐν τῷ θερισμῷ μου
Radix mea aperta est secus aquas, et ros morabitur in messione mea.
ወይትከዓው፡ ማይለሥርውየ፡ ወይወርድ፡ ጠል፡ ውስተ፡ ማአረርየ።
My root is spread out to the waters. The dew lies all night on my branch.
29:20
כְּ֭בוֹדִי חָדָ֣שׁ עִמָּדִ֑י וְ֝קַשְׁתִּ֗י בְּיָדִ֥י תַחֲלִֽיף׃
ἡ δόξα μου καινὴ μετ’ ἐμοῦ καὶ τὸ τόξον μου ἐν χειρὶ αὐτοῦ πορεύσεται
Gloria mea semper innovabitur, et arcus meus in manu mea instaurabitur.
ወክብርየ፡ ሐዲስ፡ ምስሌየ፡ ወአሐውር፡ እንዘ፡ ቀስትየ፡ ውስተ፡ እዴየ።
My glory is fresh in me. My bow is renewed in my hand.’
29:21
לִֽי־שָׁמְע֥וּ וְיִחֵ֑לּוּ וְ֝יִדְּמ֗וּ לְמ֣וֹ עֲצָתִֽי׃
ἐμοῦ ἀκούσαντες προσέσχον ἐσιώπησαν δὲ ἐπὶ τῇ ἐμῇ βουλῇ
Qui me audiebant, expectabant sententiam, et intenti tacebant ad consilium meum.
ኪያየ፡ ያረምኡኒ፡ ወይሰምዑኒ፡ ወያረምሙ፡ በምክረ፡ ዚአየ።
“Men listened to me, waited, and kept silence for my counsel.
29:22
אַחֲרֵ֣י דְ֭בָרִי לֹ֣א יִשְׁנ֑וּ וְ֝עָלֵ֗ימוֹ תִּטֹּ֥ף מִלָּתִֽי׃
ἐπὶ δὲ τῷ ἐμῷ ῥήματι οὐ προσέθεντο περιχαρεῖς δὲ ἐγίνοντο ὁπόταν αὐτοῖς ἐλάλουν
Verbis meis addere nihil audebant, et super illos stillabat eloquium meum.
ወኢይደግሙ፡ ነገረ፡ በዲበ፡ ነገርየ፡ ወይትኃሠዩ፡ ሶበ፡ እትናገሮሙ።
After my words they didn’t speak again. My speech fell on them.
29:23
וְיִחֲל֣וּ כַמָּטָ֣ר לִ֑י וּ֝פִיהֶ֗ם פָּעֲר֥וּ לְמַלְקֽוֹשׁ׃
ὥσπερ γῆ διψῶσα προσδεχομένη τὸν ὑετόν οὕτως οὗτοι τὴν ἐμὴν λαλιάν
Expectabant me sicut pluviam, et os suum aperiebant quasi ad imbrem serotinum.
ከመ፡ ምድር፡ ጽምአት፡ እንተ፡ ትሴፎ፡ ዝናመ፡ ከማሁ፡ እሙንቱሂ፡ ለነገር።
They waited for me as for the rain. Their mouths drank as with the spring rain.
29:24
אֶשְׂחַ֣ק אֲ֭לֵהֶם לֹ֣א יַאֲמִ֑ינוּ וְא֥וֹר פָּ֝נַ֗י לֹ֣א יַפִּילֽוּן׃
ἐὰν γελάσω πρὸς αὐτούς οὐ μὴ πιστεύσωσιν καὶ φῶς τοῦ προσώπου μου οὐκ ἀπέπιπτεν
Siquando ridebam ad eos, non credebant : et lux vultus mei non cadebat in terram.
ወኢይትአመኑ፡ አመ፡ ሰሐቁ፡ ምስሌሆሙ፡ ወኢወድቀ፡ ብርሃነ፡ ገጽየ።
I smiled on them when they had no confidence. They didn’t reject the light of my face.
29:25
אֶ֥בְחַ֣ר דַּרְכָּם֮ וְאֵשֵׁ֢ב רֹ֥֫אשׁ וְ֭אֶשְׁכּוֹן כְּמֶ֣לֶךְ בַּגְּד֑וּד כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר אֲבֵלִ֣ים יְנַחֵֽם׃
ἐξελεξάμην ὁδὸν αὐτῶν καὶ ἐκάθισα ἄρχων καὶ κατεσκήνουν ὡσεὶ βασιλεὺς ἐν μονοζώνοις ὃν τρόπον παθεινοὺς παρακαλῶν
Si voluissem ire ad eos, sedebam primus : cumque sederem quasi rex, circumstante exercitu, eram tamen moerentium consolator.
ኃሢሥየ፡ ፍኖቶሙ፡ ነበርኩ፡ እንዘ፡ እኴንኖሙ፡ ወነበርኩ፡ ከመ፡ ንጉሥ፡ ባሕቲትየ፡ ወሶበ፡ ይላህዉ፡ ይትናዘዙ፡ ብየ።
I chose out their way, and sat as chief. I lived as a king in the army, as one who comforts the mourners.
