5:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ Μετὰ ταῦτα ἦν ἡ ἑορτὴ τῶν Ἰουδαίων , καὶ ἀνέβη Ἰησοῦς εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα .
Post haec erat dies festus Judaeorum , et ascendit Jesus Jerosolymam .
ወእምድኅረዝ ኮነ በበዓሎሙ ለአይሁድ ዐርገ እግዚእ ኢየሱስ ኢየሩሳሌም ።
After these things, there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
5:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἔστιν δὲ ἐν τοῖς Ἱεροσολύμοις ἐπὶ τῇ προβατικῇ κολυμβήθρα , τὸ λεγόμενον Ἑβραϊστὶ Βηθζαθά , πέντε στοὰς ἔχουσα .
Est autem Jerosolymis probatica piscina , quae cognominatur hebraice Bethsaida , quinque porticus habens .
ወቦ ውስተ ኢየሩሳሌም ምጥማቃት ዘጵሩጳጥቄ ቅልንብትራ ዘውእቱ ቀላየ አባግዕ ብሂል ወይብልዋ ስማ በዕብራይስጥ ቤተ ሳይዳ ወባቲ ኀምስቱ ሕዋራት ።
Now in Jerusalem by the sheep gate, there is a pool, which is called in Hebrew, “Bethesda”, having five porches.
5:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐν ταύταις κατέκειτο πλῆθος τῶν ἀσθενούντων , τυφλῶν , χωλῶν , ξηρῶν .
In his jacebat multitudo magna languentium , caecorum , claudorum , aridorum , exspectantium aquae motum .
ወህየ ይሰክቡ ብዙኃን ድዉያን ዕዉራን ወሐንካሳን ወይቡሳን ወይጸንሑ ሁከተ ማይ ።
In these lay a great multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, or paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water;
5:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ — Angelus autem Domini descendebat secundum tempus in piscinam , et movebatur aqua . Et qui prior descendisset in piscinam post motionem aquae , sanus fiebat a quacumque detinebatur infirmitate .
እስመ መልአከ እግዚአብሔር በጊዜ ይወርድ ውስተ ምጥማቃት ይትሀወክ ማይ ወዘይወርድ ቀዲሙ እምድኅረ ሁከተ ማይ ወይትኀፀብ የሐዩ እምኵሉ ደዌ ዘቦ ።
for an angel went down at certain times into the pool and stirred up the water. Whoever stepped in first after the stirring of the water was healed of whatever disease he had.
5:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἦν δέ τις ἄνθρωπος ἐκεῖ τριάκοντα καὶ ὀκτὼ ἔτη ἔχων ἐν τῇ ἀσθενείᾳ αὐτοῦ ·
Erat autem quidam homo ibi triginta et octo annos habens in infirmitate sua .
ወሀሎ ህየ አሐዱ ብእሲ ዘሠላሳ ወሰመንቱ ክረምቱ እምዘ ደወየ ።
A certain man was there who had been sick for thirty-eight years.
5:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ τοῦτον ἰδὼν ὁ Ἰησοῦς κατακείμενον , καὶ γνοὺς ὅτι πολὺν ἤδη χρόνον ἔχει , λέγει αὐτῷ · θέλεις ὑγιὴς γενέσθαι ;
Hunc autem cum vidisset Jesus jacentem , et cognovisset quia jam multum tempus haberet , dicit ei : Vis sanus fieri ?
ወኪያሁ ርእዮ እግዚእ ኢየሱስ እንዘ ይሰክብ ውስተ ዐራቱ አእመረ ከመ ጐንደየ ውስተ ደዌሁ ወይቤሎ ትፈቅድኑ ትሕየው ።
When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had been sick for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to be made well?”
5:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ ὁ ἀσθενῶν · κύριε , ἄνθρωπον οὐκ ἔχω , ἵνα ὅταν ταραχθῇ τὸ ὕδωρ βάλῃ με εἰς τὴν κολυμβήθραν · ἐν ᾧ δὲ ἔρχομαι ἐγὼ ἄλλος πρὸ ἐμοῦ καταβαίνει .
Respondit ei languidus : Domine , hominem non habeo , ut , cum turbata fuerit aqua , mittat me in piscinam : dum venio enim ego , alius ante me descendit .
ወአውሥአ ውእቱ ድዉይ ወይቤሎ እወ እግዚኦ አላ ሰብእ አልብየ ከመ ሶበ ይትሀወክ ማይ ያውርደኒ ውስተ ምጥማቃት ወሶበ እመጽእ አነ ባዕድ ይቀድመኒ ወሪደ ።
The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I’m coming, another steps down before me.”
5:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς · ἔγειρε ἆρον τὸν κράβαττόν σου καὶ περιπάτει .
Dicit ei Jesus : Surge , tolle grabatum tuum et ambula .
ወይቤሎ እግዚእ ኢየሱስ ተንሥእ ወንሣእ ዐራተከ ወሑር ።
Jesus said to him, “Arise, take up your mat, and walk.”
5:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐγένετο ὑγιὴς ὁ ἄνθρωπος , καὶ ἦρεν τὸν κράβαττον αὐτοῦ καὶ περιεπάτει · ἦν δὲ σάββατον ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ .
Et statim sanus factus est homo ille : et sustulit grabatum suum , et ambulabat . Erat autem sabbatum in die illo .
ወሐይወ ሶቤሃ ውእቱ ብእሲ ወነሥአ ዐራቶ ወሖረ ወሰንበት አሜሃ ይእቲ ዕለት ።
Immediately, the man was made well, and took up his mat and walked. Now that day was a Sabbath.
5:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἔλεγον οὖν οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι τῷ τεθεραπευμένῳ · σάββατόν ἐστιν , καὶ οὐκ ἔξεστίν σοι ἆραι τὸν κράβαττόν .
Dicebant ergo Judaei illi qui sanatus fuerat : Sabbatum est , non licet tibi tollere grabatum tuum .
ወይቤልዎ አይሁድ ለዘሐይወ ሰንበት ውእቱ ዮም ወኢይከውነከ ትንሣእ ወትጹር ዐራተከ ።
So the Jews said to him who was cured, “It is the Sabbath. It is not lawful for you to carry the mat.”
5:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀπεκρίθη αὐτοῖς · ὁ ποιήσας με ὑγιῆ , ἐκεῖνός μοι εἶπεν · ἆρον τὸν κράβαττόν σου καὶ περιπάτει .
Respondit eis : Qui me sanum fecit , ille mihi dixit : Tolle grabatum tuum et ambula .
ወአውሥአ ወይቤሎሙ ዘአሕየወኒ ውእቱ ይቤለኒ ጹር ዐራተከ ወሑር ።
He answered them, “He who made me well said to me, ‘Take up your mat and walk.’ ”
5:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἠρώτησαν αὐτόν · τίς ἐστιν ὁ ἄνθρωπος ὁ εἰπών σοι · ἆρον καὶ περιπάτει ;
Interrogaverunt ergo eum : Quis est ille homo qui dixit tibi : Tolle grabatum tuum et ambula ?
ወተስእልዎ አይሁድ ወይቤልዎ መኑ ውእቱ ብእሲሁ ዘይቤለከ ተንሥእ ወጹር ዐራተከ ወሑር ።
Then they asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take up your mat and walk’?”
5:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὁ δὲ ἀσθενῶν οὐκ ᾔδει τίς ἐστιν · ὁ γὰρ Ἰησοῦς ἐξένευσεν ὄχλου ὄντος ἐν τῷ τόπῳ .
Is autem qui sanus fuerat effectus , nesciebat quis esset . Jesus enim declinavit a turba constituta in loco .
ወውእቱሰ ዘሐይወ ኢያእመረ መኑ ውእቱ ዘአሕየዎ እስመ ተሰወረ እግዚእ ኢየሱስ ማእከለ ብዙኃን ሰብእ እለ ሀለዉ በውእቱ መካን ።
But he who was healed didn’t know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, a crowd being in the place.
5:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ μετὰ ταῦτα εὑρίσκει αὐτὸν ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ · ἴδε ὑγιὴς γέγονας · μηκέτι ἁμάρτανε , ἵνα μὴ χεῖρόν σοί τι γένηται .
Postea invenit eum Jesus in templo , et dixit illi : Ecce sanus factus es ; jam noli peccare , ne deterius tibi aliquid contingat .
ወእምዝ ረከቦ እግዚእ ኢየሱስ ለውእቱ ዘሐይወ በምኵራብ ወይቤሎ ናሁኬ ሐየውከ ዑቅ ኢተአብስ ዳግመ ከመ ዘየአኪ እምዝ ኢይርከብከ ።
Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “Behold, you are made well. Sin no more, so that nothing worse happens to you.”
5:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀπῆλθεν ὁ ἄνθρωπος καὶ εἶπεν τοῖς Ἰουδαίοις ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ἐστιν ὁ ποιήσας αὐτὸν ὑγιῆ .
Abiit ille homo , et nuntiavit Judaeis quia Jesus esset , qui fecit eum sanum .
ወሖረ ውእቱ ብእሲ ወነገሮሙ ለአይሁድ ከመ እግዚእ ኢየሱስ ውእቱ ዘአሕየዎ ።
The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.
5:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ διὰ τοῦτο ἐδίωκον οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι τὸν Ἰησοῦν , ὅτι ταῦτα ἐποίει ἐν σαββάτῳ .
Propterea persequebantur Judaei Jesum , quia haec faciebat in sabbato .
ወበእንተ ዝንቱ ያስተዋድይዎ አይሁድ ለእግዚእ ኢየሱስ ወየኀሥሡ ይቅትልዎ እስመ ከመዝ ይገብር በሰንበት ።
For this cause the Jews persecuted Jesus and sought to kill him, because he did these things on the Sabbath.
5:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὁ δὲ ἀπεκρίνατο αὐτοῖς · ὁ πατήρ μου ἕως ἄρτι ἐργάζεται , κἀγὼ ἐργάζομαι .
Jesus autem respondit eis : Pater meus usque modo operatur , et ego operor .
ወአውሥአ እግዚእ ኢየሱስ ወይቤሎሙ አቡየሂ እስከ ይእዜ ይገብር ወአነሂ ከማሁ እገብር ።
But Jesus answered them, “My Father is still working, so I am working, too.”
5:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ διὰ τοῦτο μᾶλλον ἐζήτουν αὐτὸν οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι ἀποκτεῖναι , ὅτι οὐ μόνον ἔλυεν τὸ σάββατον , ἀλλὰ καὶ πατέρα ἴδιον ἔλεγεν τὸν θεόν , ἴσον ἑαυτὸν ποιῶν τῷ θεῷ .
Propterea ergo magis quaerebant eum Judaei interficere : quia non solum solvebat sabbatum , sed et patrem suum dicebat Deum , aequalem se faciens Deo . Respondit itaque Jesus , et dixit eis :
ወበእንተ ዝንቱ ፈድፋደ የኀሥሡ አይሁድ ይቅትልዎ እስመ አኮ ክመ ሰንበተ ባሕቲቶ ዘይስዕር ዳእሙ ዓዲ አባሁ ይሬስዮ ለእግዚአብሔር ወያዔሪ ርእሶ ምስለ እግዚአብሔር ።
For this cause therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill him, because he not only broke the Sabbath, but also called God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
5:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἀπεκρίνατο οὖν ὁ Ἰησοῦς καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς · ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν , οὐ δύναται ὁ υἱὸς ποιεῖν ἀφ’ ἑαυτοῦ οὐδέν , ἂν μή τι βλέπῃ τὸν πατέρα ποιοῦντα · ἃ γὰρ ἂν ἐκεῖνος ποιῇ , ταῦτα καὶ ὁ υἱὸς ποιεῖ ὁμοίως .
Amen , amen dico vobis : non potest Filius a se facere quidquam , nisi quod viderit Patrem facientem : quaecumque enim ille fecerit , haec et Filius similiter facit .
ወእምዝ አውሥአ እግዚእ ኢየሱስ ወይቤሎሙ አማን አማን እብለክሙ ኢይክል ወልድ ገቢረ ዘእምኀቤሁ ወኢምንተኒ ዘእንበለ ዘርእዮ ለአብ ይገብር እስመ ግብረ ዘይገብር አብ ወልድኒ ኪያሁ ይገብር በአምሳሉ ።
Jesus therefore answered them, “Most certainly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father doing. For whatever things he does, these the Son also does likewise.
5:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὁ γὰρ πατὴρ φιλεῖ τὸν υἱὸν καὶ πάντα δείκνυσιν αὐτῷ ἃ αὐτὸς ποιεῖ , καὶ μείζονα τούτων δείξει αὐτῷ ἔργα , ἵνα ὑμεῖς θαυμάζετε .
Pater enim diligit Filium , et omnia demonstrat ei quae ipse facit : et majora his demonstrabit ei opera , ut vos miremini .
እስመ አብ ያፈቅር ወልዶ ወኵሎ ያሬእዮ ዘውእቱ ይገብር ወዘየዐቢ እምዝ ያሬእዮ ግብረ ከመ አንትሙ ታንክሩ ።
For the Father has affection for the Son, and shows him all things that he himself does. He will show him greater works than these, that you may marvel.
5:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὥσπερ γὰρ ὁ πατὴρ ἐγείρει τοὺς νεκροὺς καὶ ζῳοποιεῖ , οὕτως καὶ ὁ υἱὸς οὓς θέλει ζῳοποιεῖ .
Sicut enim Pater suscitat mortuos , et vivificat , sic et Filius , quos vult , vivificat .
ወበከመ አብ ያነሥኦሙ ለምዉታን ወያሐይዎሙ ከማሁ ወልድኒ ለዘፈቀደ ያሐዩ ።
For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom he desires.
5:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ οὐδὲ γὰρ ὁ πατὴρ κρίνει οὐδένα , ἀλλὰ τὴν κρίσιν πᾶσαν δέδωκεν τῷ υἱῷ ,
Neque enim Pater judicat quemquam : sed omne judicium dedit Filio ,
እስመ አብሰ ኢይኴንን ወኢመነሂ አላ ኵሎ ኵነኔሁ አወፈዮ ለወልዱ ።
For the Father judges no one, but he has given all judgment to the Son,
5:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἵνα πάντες τιμῶσι τὸν υἱὸν καθὼς τιμῶσι τὸν πατέρα . ὁ μὴ τιμῶν τὸν υἱὸν οὐ τιμᾷ τὸν πατέρα τὸν πέμψαντα αὐτόν .
ut omnes honorificent Filium , sicut honorificant Patrem ; qui non honorificat Filium , non honorificat Patrem , qui misit illum .
ከመ ኵሉ ሰብእ ያክብርዎ ለወልድ በከመ ያከብርዎ ለአብ ወዘሰ ኢያከብሮ ለወልድ ኢያከብሮ ለአብ ዘፈነዎ ።
that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He who doesn’t honor the Son doesn’t honor the Father who sent him.
5:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι ὁ τὸν λόγον μου ἀκούων καὶ πιστεύων τῷ πέμψαντί με ἔχει ζωὴν αἰώνιον , καὶ εἰς κρίσιν οὐκ ἔρχεται ἀλλὰ μεταβέβηκεν ἐκ τοῦ θανάτου εἰς τὴν ζωήν .
Amen , amen dico vobis , quia qui verbum meum audit , et credit ei qui misit me , habet vitam aeternam , et in judicium non venit , sed transiit a morte in vitam .
አማን አማን እብለክሙ ዘይሰምዕ ቃልየ ወየአምን በዘፈነወኒ ይረክብ ሕይወተ ዘለዓለም ወኢየሐውር ውስተ ደይን አላ ዐደወ እሞት ውስተ ሕይወት ።
“Most certainly I tell you, he who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and doesn’t come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
5:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι ἔρχεται ὥρα καὶ νῦν ἐστιν , ὅτε οἱ νεκροὶ ἀκούσουσιν τῆς φωνῆς τοῦ υἱοῦ τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ οἱ ἀκούσαντες ζήσουσιν .
Amen , amen dico vobis , quia venit hora , et nunc est , quando mortui audient vocem Filii Dei : et qui audierint , vivent .
አማን አማን እብለክሙ ከመ ይበጽሕ ጊዜሁ ወይእዜ ውእቱ ከመ ምዉታን ይሰምዕዎ ቃሎ ለወልደ እግዚአብሔር ወእለሰ ሰምዕዎ የሐይዉ ።
Most certainly I tell you, the hour comes, and now is, when the dead will hear the Son of God’s voice; and those who hear will live.
5:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὥσπερ γὰρ ὁ πατὴρ ἔχει ζωὴν ἐν ἑαυτῷ , οὕτως καὶ τῷ υἱῷ ἔδωκεν ζωὴν ἔχειν ἐν ἑαυτῷ ·
Sicut enim Pater habet vitam in semetipso , sic dedit et Filio habere vitam in semetipso :
ወበከመ ለአብ ቦቱ ሕይወት ኀቤሁ ከማሁ ለወልድኒ ወሀቦ ሕይወተ ከመ ይኩን ሕይወት ኀቤሁ ።
For as the Father has life in himself, even so he gave to the Son also to have life in himself.
5:27 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐξουσίαν ἔδωκεν αὐτῷ κρίσιν ποιεῖν , ὅτι υἱὸς ἀνθρώπου ἐστίν .
et potestatem dedit ei judicium facere , quia Filius hominis est .
ወወሀቦ ሥልጣነ ከመ ይግበር ፍትሐ ወኵነኔ እስመ ወልደ እግዚአብሔር ወልደ ዕጓለ እመሕያው ውእቱ ።
He also gave him authority to execute judgment, because he is a son of man.
5:28 ⧉ ⤴︎ μὴ θαυμάζετε τοῦτο , ὅτι ἔρχεται ὥρα ἐν ᾗ πάντες οἱ ἐν τοῖς μνημείοις ἀκούσουσιν τῆς φωνῆς αὐτοῦ ,
Nolite mirari hoc , quia venit hora in qua omnes qui in monumentis sunt audient vocem Filii Dei :
ወበእንተ ዝንቱሰ ኢታንክሩ እስመ ትመጽእ ሰዓት በዘይሰምዕዎ ቃሎ ኵሎሙ እለ ውስተ መቃብር ።
Don’t marvel at this, for the hour comes in which all who are in the tombs will hear his voice
5:29 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐκπορεύσονται οἱ τὰ ἀγαθὰ ποιήσαντες εἰς ἀνάστασιν ζωῆς , οἱ τὰ φαῦλα πράξαντες εἰς ἀνάστασιν κρίσεως .
et procedent qui bona fecerunt , in resurrectionem vitae ; qui vero mala egerunt , in resurrectionem judicii .
ወይወፅኡ እለ ሠናየ ገብሩ ውስተ ትንሣኤ ዘለሕይወት ወእለሰ እኩየ ገብሩ ውስተ ትንሣኤ ዘለደይን ።
and will come out; those who have done good, to the resurrection of life; and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment.
5:30 ⧉ ⤴︎ οὐ δύναμαι ἐγὼ ποιεῖν ἀπ’ ἐμαυτοῦ οὐδέν · καθὼς ἀκούω κρίνω , καὶ ἡ κρίσις ἡ ἐμὴ δικαία ἐστίν , ὅτι οὐ ζητῶ τὸ θέλημα τὸ ἐμὸν ἀλλὰ τὸ θέλημα τοῦ πέμψαντός με
Non possum ego a meipso facere quidquam . Sicut audio , judico : et judicium meum justum est , quia non quaero voluntatem meam , sed voluntatem ejus qui misit me .
ኢይክል አንሰ ገቢረ ለልየ ዘእምኀቤየ ወኢምንተኒ አላ በከመ ሰማዕኩ እኴንን ወኵነኔየኒ ጽድቅ ውእቱ እስመ ኢየኀሥሥ ፈቃደ ዚኣየ ዘእንበለ ፈቃዱ ለዘፈነወኒ ።
I can of myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and my judgment is righteous, because I don’t seek my own will, but the will of my Father who sent me.
5:31 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐὰν ἐγὼ μαρτυρῶ περὶ ἐμαυτοῦ , ἡ μαρτυρία μου οὐκ ἔστιν ἀληθής ·
Si ego testimonium perhibeo de meipso , testimonium meum non est verum .
ወእመሰ ለልየ ስምዐ ኮንኩ ለርእስየ ኢኮነ ጽድቀ ስምዕየ ።
“If I testify about myself, my witness is not valid.
5:32 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἄλλος ἐστὶν ὁ μαρτυρῶν περὶ ἐμοῦ , καὶ οἴδατε ὅτι ἀληθής ἐστιν ἡ μαρτυρία ἣν μαρτυρεῖ περὶ ἐμοῦ .
Alius est qui testimonium perhibet de me : et scio quia verum est testimonium , quod perhibet de me .
ወባሕቱ ካልእ ውእቱ ሰማዕትየ ወአአምር ከመ ጽድቅ ውእቱ ስምዑ ዘስምዐ ኮነ በእንቲኣየ ።
It is another who testifies about me. I know that the testimony which he testifies about me is true.
5:33 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὑμεῖς ἀπεστάλκατε πρὸς Ἰωάννην , καὶ μεμαρτύρηκεν τῇ ἀληθείᾳ ·
Vos misistis ad Joannem , et testimonium perhibuit veritati .
አኮኑ አንትሙ ለአክሙ ኀበ ዮሐንስ ወነገረክሙ ስምዖ በጽድቅ በእንቲኣየ ።
You have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.
5:34 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐγὼ δὲ οὐ παρὰ ἀνθρώπου τὴν μαρτυρίαν λαμβάνω , ἀλλὰ ταῦτα λέγω ἵνα ὑμεῖς σωθῆτε .
Ego autem non ab homine testimonium accipio : sed haec dico ut vos salvi sitis .
ወአንሰ አኮ ስምዐ ሰብእ ዘእፈቅድ ወባሕቱ ዘንተ እብል ከመ አንትሙ ትእመኑ ወትድኀኑ ።
But the testimony which I receive is not from man. However, I say these things that you may be saved.
5:35 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐκεῖνος ἦν ὁ λύχνος ὁ καιόμενος καὶ φαίνων , ὑμεῖς δὲ ἠθελήσατε ἀγαλλιαθῆναι πρὸς ὥραν ἐν τῷ φωτὶ αὐτοῦ .
Ille erat lucerna ardens et lucens : vos autem voluistis ad horam exsultare in luce ejus .
ዝንቱ ውእቱ ማኅቶት ዘያኀቱ ወያበርህ ወአንትሙ ፈቀድክሙ ትትፈሥሑ በብርሃኑ አሐተ ሰዓተ ።
He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.
5:36 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐγὼ δὲ ἔχω τὴν μαρτυρίαν μείζω τοῦ Ἰωάννου · τὰ γὰρ ἔργα ἃ δέδωκέν μοι ὁ πατὴρ ἵνα τελειώσω αὐτά , αὐτὰ τὰ ἔργα ἃ ποιῶ μαρτυρεῖ περὶ ἐμοῦ ὅτι ὁ πατήρ με ἀπέσταλκεν .
Ego autem habeo testimonium majus Joanne . Opera enim quae dedit mihi Pater ut perficiam ea : ipsa opera , quae ego facio , testimonium perhibent de me , quia Pater misit me :
ወአንሰ ብየ ሰማዕት ዘየዐቢ እምስምዐ ዮሐንስ እስመ ግብር ዘወሀበኒ አቡየ ከመ እግበር ወእፈጽም ውእቱ ግብር ዘእገብር ሰማዕትየ ከመ አብ ፈነወኒ ።
But the testimony which I have is greater than that of John; for the works which the Father gave me to accomplish, the very works that I do, testify about me, that the Father has sent me.
5:37 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ὁ πέμψας με πατήρ , ἐκεῖνος μεμαρτύρηκεν περὶ ἐμοῦ . οὔτε φωνὴν αὐτοῦ πώποτε ἀκηκόατε , οὔτε εἶδος αὐτοῦ ἑωράκατε ,
et qui misit me Pater , ipse testimonium perhibuit de me : neque vocem ejus umquam audistis , neque speciem ejus vidistis :
ወአቡየ ዘፈነወኒ ውእቱ ሰማዕትየ ወእምአመ ኮንክሙ ቃሎ ኢሰማእክሙ ወራእዮሂ ኢርኢክሙ ።
The Father himself, who sent me, has testified about me. You have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form.
5:38 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ τὸν λόγον αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἔχετε ἐν ὑμῖν μένοντα , ὅτι ὃν ἀπέστειλεν ἐκεῖνος , τούτῳ ὑμεῖς οὐ πιστεύετε .
et verbum ejus non habetis in vobis manens : quia quem misit ille , huic vos non creditis .
ወቃሉሂ አልብክሙ ወኢይነብር ኀቤክሙ እስመ ዘውእቱ ፈነወ ኪያሁ ኢአመንክሙ ።
You don’t have his word living in you, because you don’t believe him whom he sent.
5:39 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐραυνᾶτε τὰς γραφάς , ὅτι ὑμεῖς δοκεῖτε ἐν αὐταῖς ζωὴν αἰώνιον ἔχειν · καὶ ἐκεῖναί εἰσίν αἱ μαρτυροῦσαι περὶ ἐμοῦ ·
Scrutamini Scripturas , quia vos putatis in ipsis vitam aeternam habere : et illae sunt quae testimonium perhibent de me :
ኅሡ ትርአዩ ውስተ መጻሕፍት እስመ ቦቶን ይመስለክሙ ዘትረክቡ ሕይወተ ዘለዓለም ወእማንቱ ሰማዕትየ ።
“You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and these are they which testify about me.
5:40 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ οὐ θέλετε ἐλθεῖν πρός με ἵνα ζωὴν ἔχητε .
et non vultis venire ad me ut vitam habeatis .
ወኢትፈቅዱ ትምጽኡ ኀቤየ ከመ ትርከቡ ሕይወተ ዘለዓለም ።
Yet you will not come to me, that you may have life.
5:41 ⧉ ⤴︎ δόξαν παρὰ ἀνθρώπων οὐ λαμβάνω ,
Claritatem ab hominibus non accipio .
አንሰ ኢይፈቅድ ያድሉ ሊተ ሰብእ ።
I don’t receive glory from men.
5:42 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀλλὰ ἔγνωκα ὑμᾶς ὅτι οὐκ ἔχετε τὴν ἀγάπην τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν ἑαυτοῖς .
Sed cognovi vos , quia dilectionem Dei non habetis in vobis .
ወባሕቱ አእመርኩክሙ ከመ አልብክሙ ፍቅረ እግዚአብሔር ላዕሌክሙ ።
But I know you, that you don’t have God’s love in yourselves.
5:43 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐγὼ ἐλήλυθα ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι τοῦ πατρός μου , καὶ οὐ λαμβάνετέ με · ἐὰν ἄλλος ἔλθῃ ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι τῷ ἰδίῳ , ἐκεῖνον λήμψεσθε .
Ego veni in nomine Patris mei , et non accipitis me ; si alius venerit in nomine suo , illum accipietis .
አነ መጻእኩ በስመ አቡየ ወኢተወከፍክሙኒ ወአመ መጽአ ካልእ በስምዐ ነፍሱ ኪያሁ ትትዌከፉ ።
I have come in my Father’s name, and you don’t receive me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive him.
5:44 ⧉ ⤴︎ πῶς δύνασθε ὑμεῖς πιστεῦσαι , δόξαν παρὰ ἀλλήλων λαμβάνοντες , καὶ τὴν δόξαν τὴν παρὰ τοῦ μόνου θεοῦ οὐ ζητεῖτε ;
Quomodo vos potestis credere , qui gloriam ab invicem accipitis , et gloriam quae a solo Deo est , non quaeritis ?
እፎ ትክሉ አንትሙ አሚነ ዘተኀሥሡ ክብረ እምቢጽክሙ ወኢተኀሥሡ ክብረ እምእግዚአብሔር ዋሕድ ።
How can you believe, who receive glory from one another, and you don’t seek the glory that comes from the only God?
5:45 ⧉ ⤴︎ μὴ δοκεῖτε ὅτι ἐγὼ κατηγορήσω ὑμῶν πρὸς τὸν πατέρα · ἔστιν ὁ κατηγορῶν ὑμῶν Μωϋσῆς , εἰς ὃν ὑμεῖς ἠλπίκατε .
Nolite putare quia ego accusaturus sim vos apud Patrem : est qui accusat vos Moyses , in quo vos speratis .
ኢይምሰልክሙ ዘአነ አስተዋድየክሙ ኀበ አብ አላ ሀሎ ሙሴ ዘያስተዋድየክሙ ዘኪያሁ ትሴፈዉ ወትትዌከሉ ።
“Don’t think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you, even Moses, on whom you have set your hope.
5:46 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἰ γὰρ ἐπιστεύετε Μωϋσεῖ , ἐπιστεύετε ἂν ἐμοί · περὶ γὰρ ἐμοῦ ἐκεῖνος ἔγραψεν .
Si enim crederetis Moysi , crederetis forsitan et mihi : de me enim ille scripsit .
ሶበሰ አመንክምዎ ለሙሴ ኪያየኒ እምአመንክሙኒ እስመ በእንቲኣየ ጸሐፈ ውእቱ ።
For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote about me.
5:47 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἰ δὲ τοῖς ἐκείνου γράμμασιν οὐ πιστεύετε , πῶς τοῖς ἐμοῖς ῥήμασιν πιστεύσετε ;
Si autem illius litteris non creditis , quomodo verbis meis credetis ?
ወእመሰ ዘጸሐፈ ሙሴ ኢተአምኑ እፎ ቃልየ ተአምኑ ።
But if you don’t believe his writings, how will you believe my words?”
