1:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἐπειδήπερ πολλοὶ ἐπεχείρησαν ἀνατάξασθαι διήγησιν περὶ τῶν πεπληροφορημένων ἐν ἡμῖν πραγμάτων ,
Quoniam quidem multi conati sunt ordinare narrationem , quae in nobis completae sunt , rerum :
እስመ ብዙኃን እለ አኀዙ ይንግሩ ወይምሀሩ በእንተ ግብር ዘአምኑ በላዕሌነ ።
Since many have undertaken to set in order a narrative concerning those matters which have been fulfilled among us,
1:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ καθὼς παρέδοσαν ἡμῖν οἱ ἀπ’ ἀρχῆς αὐτόπται καὶ ὑπηρέται γενόμενοι τοῦ λόγου ,
sicut tradiderunt nobis , qui ab initio ipsi viderunt , et ministri fuerunt sermonis :
በከመ መሀሩነ እለ ቀደሙነ ርእዮቶ ወተልእክዎ ለቃሉ ።
even as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word delivered them to us,
1:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἔδοξε κἀμοὶ παρηκολουθηκότι ἄνωθεν πᾶσιν ἀκριβῶς καθεξῆς σοι γράψαι , κράτιστε Θεόφιλε ,
visum est et mihi , assecuto omnia a principio diligenter , ex ordine tibi scribere , optime Theophile ,
ወረትዐኒ ሊተኒ እትልዎ እምጥንቱ ወጥዩቀ ኵሎ በበመትልው እጽሐፍ ለከ ኦ አዚዝ ታኦፊላ ።
it seemed good to me also, having traced the course of all things accurately from the first, to write to you in order, most excellent Theophilus;
1:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἵνα ἐπιγνῷς περὶ ὧν κατηχήθης λόγων τὴν ἀσφάλειαν .
ut cognoscas eorum verborum , de quibus eruditus es , veritatem .
ከመ ታእምር ጥዩቀ ጽድቀ ኀይለ ነገር ትምህርተ ዘተመሀርከ ።
that you might know the certainty concerning the things in which you were instructed.
1:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἐγένετο ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις Ἡρῴδου βασιλέως τῆς Ἰουδαίας ἱερεύς τις ὀνόματι Ζαχαρίας ἐξ ἐφημερίας Ἀβιά , καὶ γυνὴ αὐτῷ ἐκ τῶν θυγατέρων Ἀαρών , καὶ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτῆς Ἐλισάβετ .
Fuit in diebus Herodis , regis Judaeae , sacerdos quidam nomine Zacharias de vice Abia , et uxor illius de filiabus Aaron , et nomen ejus Elisabeth .
ወኮነ በመዋዕለ ሄሮድስ ንጉሠ ይሁዳ ሀሎ አሐዱ ካህን ዘስሙ ዘካርያስ በመዋዕለ አብያ ወብእሲቱኒ እምአዋልደ አሮን ወስማ ኤልሳቤጥ ።
There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the priestly division of Abijah. He had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.
1:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἦσαν δὲ δίκαιοι ἀμφότεροι ἐναντίον τοῦ θεοῦ , πορευόμενοι ἐν πάσαις ταῖς ἐντολαῖς καὶ δικαιώμασιν τοῦ κυρίου ἄμεμπτοι .
Erant autem justi ambo ante Deum , incedentes in omnibus mandatis et justificationibus Domini sine querela .
ወክልኤሆሙ ጻድቃን እሙንቱ በቅድመ እግዚአብሔር ወየሐውሩ በኵሉ ትእዛዙ ወሕጉ ለእግዚአብሔር ዘእንበለ ነውር ወንጹሓን እሙንቱ ።
They were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord.
1:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ οὐκ ἦν αὐτοῖς τέκνον , καθότι ἦν ἡ Ἐλισάβετ στεῖρα , καὶ ἀμφότεροι προβεβηκότες ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις αὐτῶν ἦσαν .
Et non erat illis filius , eo quod esset Elisabeth sterilis , et ambo processissent in diebus suis .
ወአልቦሙ ውሉድ እስመ መካን ይእቲ ኤልሳቤጥ ወክልኤሆሙ ልሂቃን እሙንቱ ወኀለፈ መዋዕሊሆሙ ።
But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they both were well advanced in years.
1:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ ἱερατεύειν αὐτὸν ἐν τῇ τάξει τῆς ἐφημερίας αὐτοῦ ἔναντι τοῦ θεοῦ ,
Factum est autem , cum sacerdotio fungeretur in ordine vicis suae ante Deum ,
ወእምዝ አመ ይገብር ግብረ ክህነት በእብሬቱ ቅድመ እግዚአብሔር ።
Now while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his division
1:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ κατὰ τὸ ἔθος τῆς ἱερατείας ἔλαχε τοῦ θυμιᾶσαι εἰσελθὼν εἰς τὸν ναὸν τοῦ κυρίου ,
secundum consuetudinem sacerdotii , sorte exiit ut incensum poneret , ingressus in templum Domini :
በከመ ይገብሩ ካህናት በጽሐ ጊዜ የዐጥን ወቦአ ቤተ መቅደሱ ለእግዚአብሔር ።
according to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to enter into the temple of the Lord and burn incense.
1:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ πᾶν τὸ πλῆθος ἦν τοῦ λαοῦ προσευχόμενον ἔξω τῇ ὥρᾳ τοῦ θυμιάματος .
et omnis multitudo populi erat orans foris hora incensi .
ወኵሎሙ ሕዝብ ሀለዉ በምልኦሙ ይጼልዩ በአፍኣ በጊዜ ሰዓተ ዕጣን ።
The whole multitude of the people were praying outside at the hour of incense.
1:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὤφθη δὲ αὐτῷ ἄγγελος κυρίου ἑστὼς ἐκ δεξιῶν τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου τοῦ θυμιάματος .
Apparuit autem illi angelus Domini , stans a dextris altaris incensi .
ወአስተርአዮ መልአከ እግዚአብሔር ቀዊሞ መንገለ የማነ ምሥዋዕ ዘዕጣን ።
An angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
1:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐταράχθη Ζαχαρίας ἰδών , καὶ φόβος ἐπέπεσεν ἐπ’ αὐτόν .
Et Zacharias turbatus est videns , et timor irruit super eum .
ወሶበ ርእዮ ደንገፀ ዘካርያስ ወፍርሀት ወረዓድ ወረደ ላዕሌሁ ።
Zacharias was troubled when he saw him, and fear fell upon him.
1:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτὸν ὁ ἄγγελος · μὴ φοβοῦ , Ζαχαρία , διότι εἰσηκούσθη ἡ δέησίς σου , καὶ ἡ γυνή σου Ἐλισάβετ γεννήσει υἱόν σοι , καὶ καλέσεις τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ἰωάννην ·
Ait autem ad illum angelus : Ne timeas , Zacharia , quoniam exaudita est deprecatio tua : et uxor tua Elisabeth pariet tibi filium , et vocabis nomen ejus Joannem :
ወይቤሎ መልአክ ኢትፍራህ ዘካርያስ እስመ ናሁ ተሰምዐ ጸሎትከ ቅድመ እግዚአብሔር ወብእሲትከኒ ኤልሳቤጥ ትወልድ ለከ ወልደ ወትሰምዮ ስሞ ዮሐንስ ።
But the angel said to him, “Don’t be afraid, Zacharias, because your request has been heard. Your wife, Elizabeth, will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John.
1:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἔσται χαρά σοι καὶ ἀγαλλίασις , καὶ πολλοὶ ἐπὶ τῇ γενέσει αὐτοῦ χαρήσονται .
et erit gaudium tibi , et exsultatio , et multi in nativitate ejus gaudebunt :
ወይከውነከ ትፍሥሕተ ወሐሤተ ወብዙኃን ይትፌሥሑ በልደቱ ።
You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.
1:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἔσται γὰρ μέγας ἐνώπιον κυρίου , καὶ οἶνον καὶ σίκερα οὐ μὴ πίῃ , καὶ πνεύματος ἁγίου πλησθήσεται ἔτι ἐκ κοιλίας μητρὸς αὐτοῦ ,
erit enim magnus coram Domino : et vinum et siceram non bibet , et Spiritu Sancto replebitur adhuc ex utero matris suae :
እስመ ዐቢየ ይከውን ውእቱ በቅድመ እግዚአብሔር ወኢይሰቲ ወይነ ወሜሰ ወይመልዕ ላዕሌሁ መንፈስ ቅዱስ እምከርሠ እሙ ።
For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and he will drink no wine nor strong drink. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.
1:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ πολλοὺς τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ ἐπιστρέψει ἐπὶ κύριον τὸν θεὸν αὐτῶν ·
et multos filiorum Israël convertet ad Dominum Deum ipsorum :
ወለብዙኃን እምደቂቀ እስራኤል ይመይጦሙ ኀበ እግዚአብሔር አምላኮሙ ።
He will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God.
1:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ αὐτὸς προελεύσεται ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ ἐν πνεύματι καὶ δυνάμει Ἡλεία , ἐπιστρέψαι καρδίας πατέρων ἐπὶ τέκνα καὶ ἀπειθεῖς ἐν φρονήσει δικαίων , ἑτοιμάσαι κυρίῳ λαὸν κατεσκευασμένον .
et ipse praecedet ante illum in spiritu et virtute Eliae : ut convertat corda patrum in filios , et incredulos ad prudentiam justorum , parare Domino plebem perfectam .
ወውእቱ የሐውር ቅድሜሁ በመንፈስ ቅዱስ ወበኀይለ ኤልያስ ከመ ይሚጥ ልበ አበው ኀበ ውሉድ ወኅሊና ከሓድያን ኀበ አእምሮ ጻድቃን ከመ ይሥራዕ ሕገ ወሕዝበ ዘድልው ለእግዚአብሔር ።
He will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to prepare a people prepared for the Lord.”
1:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ εἶπεν Ζαχαρίας πρὸς τὸν ἄγγελον · κατὰ τί γνώσομαι τοῦτο ; ἐγὼ γάρ εἰμι πρεσβύτης καὶ ἡ γυνή μου προβεβηκυῖα ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις αὐτῆς .
Et dixit Zacharias ad angelum : Unde hoc sciam ? ego enim sum senex , et uxor mea processit in diebus suis .
ወይቤሎ ዘካርያስ ለመልአከ እግዚአብሔር በምንት አአምር ከመ ይከውን ዝንቱ ናሁ አነሂ ልሂቅ ወለብእሲትየኒ ኀለፈ መዋዕሊሃ ።
Zacharias said to the angel, “How can I be sure of this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.”
1:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ ἄγγελος εἶπεν αὐτῷ · ἐγώ εἰμι Γαβριὴλ ὁ παρεστηκὼς ἐνώπιον τοῦ θεοῦ , καὶ ἀπεστάλην λαλῆσαι πρὸς σὲ καὶ εὐαγγελίσασθαί σοι ταῦτα ·
Et respondens angelus dixit ei : Ego sum Gabriel , qui asto ante Deum : et missus sum loqui ad te , et haec tibi evangelizare .
ወተሰጥዎ መልአክ ወይቤሎ አነ ውእቱ ገብርኤል ዘእቀውም ቅድመ እግዚአብሔር ዘተፈኖኩ ኀቤከ እንግርከ ወእዜኑከ ዘንተ ።
The angel answered him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God. I was sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.
1:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἰδοὺ ἔσῃ σιωπῶν καὶ μὴ δυνάμενος λαλῆσαι ἄχρι ἧς ἡμέρας γένηται ταῦτα , ἀνθ’ ὧν οὐκ ἐπίστευσας τοῖς λόγοις μου , οἵτινες πληρωθήσονται εἰς τὸν καιρὸν αὐτῶν .
Et ecce eris tacens , et non poteris loqui usque in diem quo haec fiant , pro eo quod non credidisti verbis meis , quae implebuntur in tempore suo .
ወናሁ ትከውን በሃመ ወትስእን ነቢበ እስከ አመ ይከውን ዝንቱ እስመ ኢአመንከኒ ነገርየ ዘይከውን ወይትፌጸም በዕድሜሁ ።
Behold, you will be silent and not able to speak until the day that these things will happen, because you didn’t believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time.”
1:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἦν ὁ λαὸς προσδοκῶν τὸν Ζαχαρίαν , καὶ ἐθαύμαζον ἐν τῷ χρονίζειν αὐτὸν ἐν τῷ ναῷ .
Et erat plebs exspectans Zachariam : et mirabantur quod tardaret ipse in templo .
ወሀለዉ ሕዝብ ይጼልዩ ወይጸንሕዎ ለዘካርያስ ወአንከርዎ እስመ ጐንደየ ውስተ ቤተ መቅደስ ።
The people were waiting for Zacharias, and they marveled that he delayed in the temple.
1:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐξελθὼν δὲ οὐκ ἐδύνατο λαλῆσαι αὐτοῖς , καὶ ἐπέγνωσαν ὅτι ὀπτασίαν ἑώρακεν ἐν τῷ ναῷ · καὶ αὐτὸς ἦν διανεύων αὐτοῖς , καὶ διέμενεν κωφός .
Egressus autem non poterat loqui ad illos , et cognoverunt quod visionem vidisset in templo . Et ipse erat innuens illis , et permansit mutus .
ወወፂኦ ኀቤሆሙ አፍኣ ስእነ ተናግሮቶሙ ወአእመሩ ከመ ቦ ዘአስተርአዮ በቤተ መቅደስ ወነበረ ከማሁ እንዘ በሃም ውእቱ ወይኤምሮሙ በእዴሁ ።
When he came out, he could not speak to them. They perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple. He continued making signs to them, and remained mute.
1:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἐπλήσθησαν αἱ ἡμέραι τῆς λειτουργίας αὐτοῦ , ἀπῆλθεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ .
Et factum est , ut impleti sunt dies officii ejus , abiit in domum suam :
ወእምዝ ፈጺሞ መዋዕለ እብሬቱ አተወ ቤቶ ።
When the days of his service were fulfilled, he departed to his house.
1:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ μετὰ δὲ ταύτας τὰς ἡμέρας συνέλαβεν Ἐλισάβετ ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ · καὶ περιέκρυβεν ἑαυτὴν μῆνας πέντε , λέγουσα
post hos autem dies concepit Elisabeth uxor ejus , et occultabat se mensibus quinque , dicens :
ወእምድኅረ ክልኤ መዋዕል ፀንሰት ኤልሳቤጥ ብእሲቱ ወከበተት ርእሳ ኀምስተ አውራኀ እንዘ ትብል ።
After these days Elizabeth his wife conceived, and she hid herself five months, saying,
1:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὅτι οὕτως μοι πεποίηκεν κύριος ἐν ἡμέραις αἷς ἐπεῖδεν ἀφελεῖν ὄνειδός μου ἐν ἀνθρώποις .
Quia sic fecit mihi Dominus in diebus , quibus respexit auferre opprobrium meum inter homines .
ከመዝኑ ረሰየኒ ሊተ እግዚአብሔር አመ ሐውጾ ሐወጸኒ በዝንቱ መዋዕል ያእትት ዝንጓጔየ እምሰብእ ።
“Thus has the Lord done to me in the days in which he looked at me, to take away my reproach among men.”
1:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἐν δὲ τῷ μηνὶ τῷ ἕκτῳ ἀπεστάλη ὁ ἄγγελος Γαβριὴλ ἀπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ εἰς πόλιν τῆς Γαλιλαίας ᾗ ὄνομα Ναζαρὲθ
In mense autem sexto , missus est angelus Gabriel a Deo in civitatem Galilaeae , cui nomen Nazareth ,
ወበሳድስ ወርኅ ተፈነወ ገብርኤል መልአክ እምኀበ እግዚአብሔር ኀበ አሐቲ ሀገር ዘገሊላ እንተ ስማ ናዝሬት ።
Now in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth,
1:27 ⧉ ⤴︎ πρὸς παρθένον ἐμνηστευμένην ἀνδρὶ ᾧ ὄνομα Ἰωσὴφ ἐξ οἴκου Δαυείδ , καὶ τὸ ὄνομα τῆς παρθένου Μαριάμ .
ad virginem desponsatam viro , cui nomen erat Joseph , de domo David : et nomen virginis Maria .
ኀበ ድንግል እንተ ተፍኅረት ለብእሲ ዘስሙ ዮሴፍ ዘእምቤተ ዳዊት ወስማ ለይእቲ ድንግል ማርያም ።
to a virgin pledged to be married to a man whose name was Joseph, of David’s house. The virgin’s name was Mary.
1:28 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ εἰσελθὼν πρὸς αὐτὴν ὁ ἄγγελος εἶπεν · χαῖρε , κεχαριτωμένη , ὁ κύριος μετὰ σοῦ .
Et ingressus angelus ad eam dixit : Ave gratia plena : Dominus tecum : benedicta tu in mulieribus .
ወቦአ መልአክ ኀቤሃ ወይቤላ ተፈሥሒ ፍሥሕት ኦ ምልእተ ጸጋ እግዚአብሔር ምስሌኪ ወቡርክት አንቲ እምአንስት ።
Having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, you highly favored one! The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women!”
1:29 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἡ δὲ ἐπὶ τῷ λόγῳ διεταράχθη , καὶ διελογίζετο ποταπὸς εἴη ὁ ἀσπασμὸς οὗτος .
Quae cum audisset , turbata est in sermone ejus , et cogitabat qualis esset ista salutatio .
ወርእያ ደንገፀት እምቃሉ ወኀለየት ወትቤ እፎኑ እንጋ ዘከመዝ አምኃ ይትአምኁ ።
But when she saw him, she was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered what kind of salutation this might be.
1:30 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ εἶπεν ὁ ἄγγελος αὐτῇ · μὴ φοβοῦ , Μαριάμ · εὗρες γὰρ χάριν παρὰ τῷ θεῷ ·
Et ait angelus ei : Ne timeas , Maria : invenisti enim gratiam apud Deum .
ወይቤላ መልአክ ኢትፍርሂ ማርያም እስመ ረከብኪ ሞገሰ በኀበ እግዚአብሔር ።
The angel said to her, “Don’t be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
1:31 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἰδοὺ συλλήμψῃ ἐν γαστρὶ καὶ τέξῃ υἱόν , καὶ καλέσεις τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ἰησοῦν .
Ecce concipies in utero , et paries filium , et vocabis nomen ejus Jesum :
ወናሁ ትፀንሲ ወትወልዲ ወልደ ወትሰምዪዮ ስሞ ኢየሱስ ።
Behold, you will conceive in your womb and give birth to a son, and shall name him ‘Jesus.’
1:32 ⧉ ⤴︎ οὗτος ἔσται μέγας καὶ υἱὸς ὑψίστου κληθήσεται , καὶ δώσει αὐτῷ κύριος ὁ θεὸς τὸν θρόνον Δαυεὶδ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ,
hic erit magnus , et Filius Altissimi vocabitur , et dabit illi Dominus Deus sedem David patris ejus : et regnabit in domo Jacob in aeternum ,
ውእቱ ዐቢይ ወይሰመይ ወልደ እግዚአብሔር ልዑል ወይሁቦ እግዚአብሔር አምላክ መንበረ ዳዊት አቡሁ ።
He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,
1:33 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ βασιλεύσει ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον Ἰακὼβ εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας , καὶ τῆς βασιλείας αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἔσται τέλος .
et regni ejus non erit finis .
ወይነግሥ ለቤተ ያዕቆብ ለዓለም ወአልቦ ማኅለቅት ለመንግሥቱ ።
and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever. There will be no end to his Kingdom.”
1:34 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἶπεν δὲ Μαριὰμ πρὸς τὸν ἄγγελον · πῶς ἔσται τοῦτο , ἐπεὶ ἄνδρα οὐ γινώσκω ;
Dixit autem Maria ad angelum : Quomodo fiet istud , quoniam virum non cognosco ?
ወትቤሎ ማርያም ለመልአክ እፎኑ ይከውነኒ ዝንቱ እንዘ ኢየአምር ብእሴ ።
Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, seeing I am a virgin?”
1:35 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ ἄγγελος εἶπεν αὐτῇ , πνεῦμα ἅγιον ἐπελεύσεται ἐπὶ σέ , καὶ δύναμις ὑψίστου ἐπισκιάσει σοι · διὸ καὶ τὸ γεννώμενον ἅγιον κληθήσεται , υἱὸς θεοῦ .
Et respondens angelus dixit ei : Spiritus Sanctus superveniet in te , et virtus Altissimi obumbrabit tibi . Ideoque et quod nascetur ex te sanctum , vocabitur Filius Dei .
ወአውሥአ መልአክ ወይቤላ መንፈሰ እግዚአብሔር ቅዱስ ይመጽእ ላዕሌኪ ወኀይለ ልዑል ይጼልለኪ ወዘኒ ይትወለድ እምኔኪ ቅዱስ ውእቱ ወይሰመይ ወልደ እግዚአብሔር ልዑል ።
The angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore also the holy one who is born from you will be called the Son of God.
1:36 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἰδοὺ Ἐλισάβετ ἡ συγγενίς σου καὶ αὐτὴ συνειληφυῖα υἱὸν ἐν γήρει αὐτῆς , καὶ οὗτος μὴν ἕκτος ἐστὶν αὐτῇ τῇ καλουμένῃ στείρᾳ ·
Et ecce Elisabeth cognata tua , et ipsa concepit filium in senectute sua : et hic mensis sextus est illi , quae vocatur sterilis :
ወናሁ ኤልሳቤጥኒ እንተ እምአዝማድኪ ይእቲኒ ፀንሰት ወረከበት ወልደ በልህቃቲሃ ወበርስኣቲሃ ወናሁ ሳድስ ዝንቱ ወርኅ ለእንተ ይብልዋ መካን ።
Behold, Elizabeth your relative also has conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren.
1:37 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὅτι οὐκ ἀδυνατήσει παρὰ τοῦ θεοῦ πᾶν ῥῆμα .
quia non erit impossibile apud Deum omne verbum .
እስመ አልቦ ነገር ዘይሰአኖ ለእግዚአብሔር ።
For nothing spoken by God is impossible.”
1:38 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἶπεν δὲ Μαριάμ · ἰδοὺ ἡ δούλη κυρίου · γένοιτό μοι κατὰ τὸ ῥῆμά σου . καὶ ἀπῆλθεν ἀπ’ αὐτῆς ὁ ἄγγελος .
Dixit autem Maria : Ecce ancilla Domini : fiat mihi secundum verbum tuum . Et discessit ab illa angelus .
ወትቤሎ ማርያም ለመልአክ ነየ አመተ እግዚአብሔር ይኩነኒ በከመ ትቤለኒ ወእምዝ ሖረ ወኀለፈ እምኀቤሃ መልአክ ።
Mary said, “Behold, the servant of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.
1:39 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἀναστᾶσα δὲ Μαριὰμ ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ταύταις ἐπορεύθη εἰς τὴν ὀρεινὴν μετὰ σπουδῆς εἰς πόλιν Ἰούδα ,
Exsurgens autem Maria in diebus illis , abiit in montana cum festinatione , in civitatem Juda :
ወተንሥአት ማርያም ፍጡነ በውእቱ መዋዕል ወሖረት ደወለ ዓይነ ከርም ወበጽሐት ሀገረ ዳዊት ዘይሁዳ ።
Mary arose in those days and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Judah,
1:40 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον Ζαχαρίου καὶ ἠσπάσατο τὴν Ἐλισάβετ .
et intravit in domum Zachariae , et salutavit Elisabeth .
ወቦአት ቤተ ዘካርያስ ወአምኀታ ለኤልሳቤጥ ።
and entered into the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.
1:41 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἤκουσεν τὸν ἀσπασμὸν τῆς Μαρίας ἡ Ἐλισάβετ , ἐσκίρτησεν τὸ βρέφος ἐν τῇ κοιλίᾳ αὐτῆς . καὶ ἐπλήσθη πνεύματος ἁγίου ἡ Ἐλισάβετ ,
Et factum est , ut audivit salutationem Mariae Elisabeth , exsultavit infans in utero ejus : et repleta est Spiritu Sancto Elisabeth :
ወሶበ ሰምዐት ኤልሳቤጥ ቃላ ለማርያም እንዘ ትትአምኃ አንፈርዐጸ ዕጓል በውስተ ከርሣ ወመልአ መንፈስ ቅዱስ ላዕለ ኤልሳቤጥ ።
When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
1:42 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἀνεφώνησεν κραυγῇ μεγάλῃ καὶ εἶπεν · εὐλογημένη σὺ ἐν γυναιξίν , καὶ εὐλογημένος ὁ καρπὸς τῆς κοιλίας σου .
et exclamavit voce magna , et dixit : Benedicta tu inter mulieres , et benedictus fructus ventris tui .
ወከልሐት በዐቢይ ቃል ወትቤ ቡርክት አንቲ እምአንስት ወቡሩክ ፍሬ ከርሥኪ ።
She called out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!
1:43 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ πόθεν μοι τοῦτο ἵνα ἔλθῃ ἡ μήτηρ τοῦ κυρίου μου πρὸς ἐμέ ;
Et unde hoc mihi , ut veniat mater Domini mei ad me ?
ወምንትኑ አነ ከመ ትምጽኢ ኀቤየ እሙ ለእግዚእየ ።
Why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
1:44 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἰδοὺ γὰρ ὡς ἐγένετο ἡ φωνὴ τοῦ ἀσπασμοῦ σου εἰς τὰ ὦτά μου , ἐσκίρτησεν ἐν ἀγαλλιάσει τὸ βρέφος ἐν τῇ κοιλίᾳ μου .
Ecce enim ut facta est vox salutationis tuae in auribus meis , exsultavit in gaudio infans in utero meo .
እስመ ናሁ ሶበ ሰማዕኩ ቃለኪ እንዘ ትትአምኅኒ አንፈርዐጸ ዕጓል በውስተ ከርሥየ በፍሥሓ ወበሐሤት ።
For behold, when the voice of your greeting came into my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy!
1:45 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ μακαρία ἡ πιστεύσασα ὅτι ἔσται τελείωσις τοῖς λελαλημένοις αὐτῇ παρὰ κυρίου .
Et beata , quae credidisti , quoniam perficientur ea , quae dicta sunt tibi a Domino .
ወብፅዕት አንቲ እንተ ተአምኒ ከመ ይከውን ቃል ዘነገሩኪ እምኀበ እግዚአብሔር ።
Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of the things which have been spoken to her from the Lord!”
1:46 ⧉ ⤴︎ Καὶ εἶπεν Μαριάμ · μεγαλύνει ἡ ψυχή μου τὸν κύριον ,
Et ait Maria : Magnificat anima mea Dominum :
ወትቤ ማርያም ታዐብዮ ነፍስየ ለእግዚአብሔር ።
Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord.
1:47 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἠγαλλίασεν τὸ πνεῦμά μου ἐπὶ τῷ θεῷ τῷ σωτῆρί μου ,
et exsultavit spiritus meus in Deo salutari meo .
ወትትሐሠይ መንፈስየ በአምላኪየ ወመድኀኒየ ።
My spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior,
1:48 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὅτι ἐπέβλεψεν ἐπὶ τὴν ταπείνωσιν τῆς δούλης αὐτοῦ . ἰδοὺ γὰρ ἀπὸ τοῦ νῦν μακαριοῦσίν με πᾶσαι αἱ γενεαί ,
Quia respexit humilitatem ancillae suae : ecce enim ex hoc beatam me dicent omnes generationes ,
እስመ ርእየ ሕማማ ለአመቱ ናሁ እምይእዜሰ ያስተበፅዑኒ ኵሉ ትውልድ ።
for he has looked at the humble state of his servant. For behold, from now on, all generations will call me blessed.
1:49 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὅτι ἐποίησέν μοι μεγάλα ὁ δυνατός . καὶ ἅγιον τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ,
quia fecit mihi magna qui potens est : et sanctum nomen ejus ,
እስመ ገብረ ሊተ ኀይለ ዐቢያተ ወቅዱስ ስሙ ።
For he who is mighty has done great things for me. Holy is his name.
1:50 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ τὸ ἔλεος αὐτοῦ εἰς γενεὰς καὶ γενεὰς τοῖς φοβουμένοις αὐτόν .
et misericordia ejus a progenie in progenies timentibus eum .
ወሣህሉኒ ለትውልደ ትውልድ ለእለ ይፈርህዎ ።
His mercy is for generations and generations on those who fear him.
1:51 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐποίησεν κράτος ἐν βραχίονι αὐτοῦ , διεσκόρπισεν ὑπερηφάνους διανοίᾳ καρδίας αὐτῶν ·
Fecit potentiam in brachio suo : dispersit superbos mente cordis sui .
ወገብረ ኀይለ በመዝራዕቱ ወዘረዎሙ ለእለ ያዐብዩ ኅሊና ልቦሙ ።
He has shown strength with his arm. He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
1:52 ⧉ ⤴︎ καθεῖλεν δυνάστας ἀπὸ θρόνων καὶ ὕψωσεν ταπεινούς ,
Deposuit potentes de sede , et exaltavit humiles .
ወነሠቶሙ ለኀያላን እመናብርቲሆሙ አዕበዮሙ ለትሑታን ።
He has put down princes from their thrones, and has exalted the lowly.
1:53 ⧉ ⤴︎ πεινῶντας ἐνέπλησεν ἀγαθῶν καὶ πλουτοῦντας ἐξαπέστειλεν κενούς .
Esurientes implevit bonis : et divites dimisit inanes .
ወአጽገቦሙ እምበረከቱ ለርኁባን ወፈነዎሙ ዕራቆሙ ለብዑላን ።
He has filled the hungry with good things. He has sent the rich away empty.
1:54 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀντελάβετο Ἰσραὴλ παιδὸς αὐτοῦ , μνησθῆναι ἐλέους ,
Suscepit Israël puerum suum , recordatus misericordiae suae :
ወተወክፎ ለእስራኤል ቍልዔሁ ወተዘከረ ሣህሎ ።
He has given help to Israel, his servant, that he might remember mercy,
1:55 ⧉ ⤴︎ καθὼς ἐλάλησεν πρὸς τοὺς πατέρας ἡμῶν , τῷ Ἀβραὰμ καὶ τῷ σπέρματι αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα .
sicut locutus est ad patres nostros , Abraham et semini ejus in saecula .
ዘይቤሎሙ ለአበዊነ ለአብርሃም ወለዘርዑ እስከ ለዓለም ።
as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and his offspring forever.”
1:56 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἔμεινεν δὲ Μαριὰμ σὺν αὐτῇ ὡς μῆνας τρεῖς , καὶ ὑπέστρεψεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτῆς .
Mansit autem Maria cum illa quasi mensibus tribus : et reversa est in domum suam .
ወነበረት ማርያም ኀቤሃ መጠነ ሠለስቱ አውራኅ ወእምድኅሬሁ አተወት ቤታ ።
Mary stayed with her about three months, and then returned to her house.
1:57 ⧉ ⤴︎ Τῇ δὲ Ἐλισάβετ ἐπλήσθη ὁ χρόνος τοῦ τεκεῖν αὐτήν , καὶ ἐγέννησεν υἱόν .
Elisabeth autem impletum est tempus pariendi , et peperit filium .
ወበጽሐ ወርኃ ለኤልሳቤጥ ከመ ትለድ ወወለደት ወልደ ።
Now the time that Elizabeth should give birth was fulfilled, and she gave birth to a son.
1:58 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἤκουσαν οἱ περίοικοι καὶ οἱ συγγενεῖς αὐτῆς ὅτι ἐμεγάλυνεν κύριος τὸ ἔλεος αὐτοῦ μετ’ αὐτῆς , καὶ συνέχαιρον αὐτῇ .
Et audierunt vicini et cognati ejus quia magnificavit Dominus misericordiam suam cum illa , et congratulabantur ei .
ወሶበ ሰምዑ አዝማዲሃ ወአግዋሪሃ ከመ አዕበየ እግዚአብሔር ሣህሎ ላዕሌሃ ተፈሥሑ ላቲ ።
Her neighbors and her relatives heard that the Lord had magnified his mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her.
1:59 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ὀγδόῃ ἦλθον περιτεμεῖν τὸ παιδίον , καὶ ἐκάλουν αὐτὸ ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματι τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ Ζαχαρίαν .
Et factum est in die octavo , venerunt circumcidere puerum , et vocabant eum nomine patris sui Zachariam .
ወእምዝ አመ ሰሙን ዕለት መጽኡ ከመ ይግዝርዎ ለሕፃን ወሰመይዎ በስመ አቡሁ ዘካርያስ ።
On the eighth day, they came to circumcise the child; and they would have called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.
1:60 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἀποκριθεῖσα ἡ μήτηρ αὐτοῦ εἶπεν · οὐχί , ἀλλὰ κληθήσεται Ἰωάννης .
Et respondens mater ejus , dixit : Nequaquam , sed vocabitur Joannes .
ወአውሥአት እሙ ወትቤ አልቦ አላ ዮሐንስ ይሰመይ ።
His mother answered, “Not so; but he will be called John.”
1:61 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς αὐτὴν ὅτι οὐδείς ἐστιν ἐκ τῆς συγγενείας σου ὃς καλεῖται τῷ ὀνόματι τούτῳ .
Et dixerunt ad illam : Quia nemo est in cognatione tua , qui vocetur hoc nomine .
ወይቤልዋ አልቦ እምአዝማድኪ ዘከማሁ ስሙ ።
They said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who is called by this name.”
1:62 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐνένευον δὲ τῷ πατρὶ αὐτοῦ τὸ τί ἂν θέλοι καλεῖσθαι αὐτό .
Innuebant autem patri ejus , quem vellet vocari eum .
ወቀጸብዎ ለአቡሁ ወይቤልዎ መነ ትፈቅድ ይስምይዎ ።
They made signs to his father, what he would have him called.
1:63 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ αἰτήσας πινακίδιον ἔγραψεν λέγων · Ἰωάννης ἐστὶν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ . καὶ ἐθαύμασαν πάντες .
Et postulans pugillarem scripsit , dicens : Joannes est nomen ejus . Et mirati sunt universi .
ወሰአለ ለውሀ ወጸሐፈ እንዘ ይብል ዮሐንስ ይሰመይ ስሙ ወአንከሩ ኵሎሙ ።
He asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, “His name is John.” They all marveled.
1:64 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀνεῴχθη δὲ τὸ στόμα αὐτοῦ παραχρῆμα καὶ ἡ γλῶσσα αὐτοῦ , καὶ ἐλάλει εὐλογῶν τὸν θεόν .
Apertum est autem illico os ejus , et lingua ejus , et loquebatur benedicens Deum .
ወተከሥተ አፉሁ ሶቤሃ ወልሳኑ ነበበ ወባረኮ ለእግዚአብሔር ።
His mouth was opened immediately and his tongue freed, and he spoke, blessing God.
1:65 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐγένετο ἐπὶ πάντας φόβος τοὺς περιοικοῦντας αὐτούς , καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ ὀρεινῇ τῆς Ἰουδαίας διελαλεῖτο πάντα τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα ,
Et factus est timor super omnes vicinos eorum : et super omnia montana Judaeae divulgabantur omnia verba haec :
ወኮነ ፍርሀት ላዕለ ኵሉ ሰብእ ዘውእቱ ብሔር ወላዕለ ኵሉ ደወለ ይሁዳ ወተናገርዎ ለዝንቱ ነገር በኵሉ ብሔረ ይሁዳ ።
Fear came on all who lived around them, and all these sayings were talked about throughout all the hill country of Judea.
1:66 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἔθεντο πάντες οἱ ἀκούσαντες ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτῶν , λέγοντες · τί ἄρα τὸ παιδίον τοῦτο ἔσται ; καὶ γὰρ χεὶρ κυρίου ἦν μετ’ αὐτοῦ .
et posuerunt omnes qui audierant in corde suo , dicentes : Quis , putas , puer iste erit ? etenim manus Domini erat cum illo .
ወዐቀብዎ በልቦሙ ኵሎሙ እለ ሰምዕዎ ወይቤሉ ምንትኑ እንጋ ውእቱ ዝንቱ ሕፃን እስመ እደ እግዚአብሔር ላዕሌሁ ።
All who heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, “What then will this child be?” The hand of the Lord was with him.
1:67 ⧉ ⤴︎ Καὶ Ζαχαρίας ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ ἐπλήσθη πνεύματος ἁγίου καὶ ἐπροφήτευσεν λέγων ·
Et Zacharias pater ejus repletus est Spiritu Sancto : et prophetavit , dicens :
ወመልአ መንፈስ ቅዱስ ላዕለ ዘካርያስ አቡሁ ወተነበየ ወይቤ ።
His father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying,
1:68 ⧉ ⤴︎ εὐλογητὸς κύριος ὁ θεὸς τοῦ Ἰσραήλ , ὅτι ἐπεσκέψατο καὶ ἐποίησεν λύτρωσιν τῷ λαῷ αὐτοῦ ,
Benedictus Dominus Deus Israël , quia visitavit , et fecit redemptionem plebis suae :
ይትባረክ እግዚአብሔር አምላከ እስራኤል ዘተሣሀለነ ወገብረ መድኀኒተ ለሕዝበ ዚኣሁ ።
“Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people;
1:69 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἤγειρεν κέρας σωτηρίας ἡμῖν ἐν οἴκῳ Δαυεὶδ παιδὸς αὐτοῦ ,
et erexit cornu salutis nobis in domo David pueri sui ,
አንሥአ ለነ ቀርነ መድኀኒትነ እምቤተ ዳዊት ገብሩ ።
and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David
1:70 ⧉ ⤴︎ καθὼς ἐλάλησεν διὰ στόματος τῶν ἁγίων ἀπ’ αἰῶνος προφητῶν αὐτοῦ ,
sicut locutus est per os sanctorum , qui a saeculo sunt , prophetarum ejus :
በከመ ነበበ በአፈ ነቢያቲሁ ቅዱሳን እለ እምዓለም ።
(as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets who have been from of old),
1:71 ⧉ ⤴︎ σωτηρίαν ἐξ ἐχθρῶν ἡμῶν καὶ ἐκ χειρὸς πάντων τῶν μισούντων ἡμᾶς ·
salutem ex inimicis nostris , et de manu omnium qui oderunt nos :
ከመ ያድኅነነ እምእደ ፀርነ ወእምእዴሆሙ ለኵሎሙ እለ ይጸልኡነ ።
salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us;
1:72 ⧉ ⤴︎ ποιῆσαι ἔλεος μετὰ τῶν πατέρων ἡμῶν καὶ μνησθῆναι διαθήκης ἁγίας αὐτοῦ ,
ad faciendam misericordiam cum patribus nostris : et memorari testamenti sui sancti :
ከመ ይግበር ሣህሎ ምስለ አበዊነ ወከመ ይዘከር ኪዳኖ ቅዱሰ ።
to show mercy toward our fathers, to remember his holy covenant,
1:73 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὅρκον ὃν ὤμοσεν πρὸς Ἀβραὰμ τὸν πατέρα ἡμῶν , τοῦ δοῦναι ἡμῖν
jusjurandum , quod juravit ad Abraham patrem nostrum , daturum se nobis
መሐላሁ ዘመሐለ ለአብርሃም አቡነ ።
the oath which he swore to Abraham our father,
1:74 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀφόβως ἐκ χειρὸς ἐχθρῶν ῥυσθέντας λατρεύειν αὐτῷ
ut sine timore , de manu inimicorum nostrorum liberati , serviamus illi
ከመ የሀበነ በዘኢንፈርህ እምእደ ፀርነ ።
to grant to us that we, being delivered out of the hand of our enemies, should serve him without fear,
1:75 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐν ὁσιότητι καὶ δικαιοσύνῃ ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας ἡμῶν .
in sanctitate et justitia coram ipso , omnibus diebus nostris .
ያድኅነነ ናምልኮ በጽድቅ ወበርትዕ በቅድሜሁ ወበኵሉ መዋዕሊነ ።
in holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life.
1:76 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ σὺ δέ παιδίον , προφήτης ὑψίστου κληθήσῃ · προπορεύσῃ γὰρ πρὸ προσώπου κυρίου ἑτοιμάσαι ὁδοὺς αὐτοῦ ,
Et tu puer , propheta Altissimi vocaberis : praeibis enim ante faciem Domini parare vias ejus ,
ወአንተኒ ሕፃን ነቢየ ልዑል ትሰመይ እስመ ተሐውር ቅድመ እግዚአብሔር ከመ ትጺሕ ፍኖቶ ።
And you, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways,
1:77 ⧉ ⤴︎ τοῦ δοῦναι γνῶσιν σωτηρίας τῷ λαῷ αὐτοῦ ἐν ἀφέσει ἁμαρτιῶν αὐτῶν
ad dandam scientiam salutis plebi ejus in remissionem peccatorum eorum
ከመ ተሀቦሙ ለአሕዛብ ያእምሩ መድኀኒቶሙ በዘይትኀደግ ሎሙ ኀጢአቶሙ ።
to give knowledge of salvation to his people by the remission of their sins,
1:78 ⧉ ⤴︎ διὰ σπλάγχνα ἐλέους θεοῦ ἡμῶν , ἐν οἷς ἐπεσκέψατο ἡμᾶς ἀνατολὴ ἐξ ὕψους ,
per viscera misericordiae Dei nostri , in quibus visitavit nos , oriens ex alto :
በሣህሉ ወበምሕረቱ ለአምላክነ ለዘሐወጸነ እምአርያም ወሠረቀ ከመ ያርእዮሙ ብርሃኖ ።
because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the dawn from on high will visit us,
1:79 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐπιφᾶναι τοῖς ἐν σκότει καὶ σκιᾷ θανάτου καθημένοις , τοῦ κατευθῦναι τοὺς πόδας ἡμῶν εἰς ὁδὸν εἰρήνης .
illuminare his qui in tenebris et in umbra mortis sedent : ad dirigendos pedes nostros in viam pacis .
ለእለ ይነብሩ ውስተ ጽልመት ወጽላሎተ ሞት ከመ ያርትዕ እገሪነ ውስተ ፍኖተ ሰላም ።
to shine on those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death; to guide our feet into the way of peace.”
1:80 ⧉ ⤴︎ Τὸ δὲ παιδίον ηὔξανεν καὶ ἐκραταιοῦτο πνεύματι , καὶ ἦν ἐν ταῖς ἐρήμοις ἕως ἡμέρας ἀναδείξεως αὐτοῦ πρὸς τὸν Ἰσραήλ .
Puer autem crescebat , et confortabatur spiritu : et erat in desertis usque in diem ostensionis suae ad Israël .
ወልህቀ ሕፃን ወጸንዐ በመንፈስ ቅዱስ ወነበረ ሐቅለ እስከ አመ ያገይሥዎ ኀበ እስራኤል ።
The child was growing and becoming strong in spirit, and was in the desert until the day of his public appearance to Israel.
