1:1
מַשָּׂ֥א דְבַר־יְהֹוָ֖ה אֶל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל בְּיַ֖ד מַלְאָכִֽי׃
λῆμμα λόγου κυρίου ἐπὶ τὸν Ισραηλ ἐν χειρὶ ἀγγέλου αὐτοῦ θέσθε δὴ ἐπὶ τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν
Onus verbi Domini ad Israël in manu Malachiae.
ተረፈ፡ ቃለ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ላዕለ፡ እስራኤል፡ በእደ፡ መልአኩ።ሐለወይዎኬአ፡ በልብክሙ።

1:2
אָהַ֤בְתִּי אֶתְכֶם֙ אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֔ה וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֖ם בַּמָּ֣ה אֲהַבְתָּ֑נוּ הֲלוֹא־אָ֨ח עֵשָׂ֤ו לְיַֽעֲקֹב֙ נְאֻם־יְהֹוָ֔ה וָאֹהַ֖ב אֶֽת־יַעֲקֹֽב׃
ἠγάπησα ὑμᾶς λέγει κύριος καὶ εἴπατε ἐν τίνι ἠγάπησας ἡμᾶς οὐκ ἀδελφὸς ἦν Ησαυ τοῦ Ιακωβ λέγει κύριος καὶ ἠγάπησα τὸν Ιακωβ
Dilexi vos, dicit Dominus, et dixistis : In quo dilexisti nos ? Nonne frater erat Esau Jacob ? dicit Dominus : et dilexi Jacob,
አፍቀርኩክሙ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር። ወትብሉኒ፡ በበይነ፡ ምንት፡ አብቀርከነ፡ አኮኑ፡ ዔሳው፡ እኁሁ፡ ለያዕቆብ፡ ይበ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ያዕቆብሃ፡ አፍቀርኩ።
“I have loved you,” says Yahweh. Yet you say, “How have you loved us?” “Wasn’t Esau Jacob’s brother?” says Yahweh, “Yet I loved Jacob;
1:3
וְאֶת־עֵשָׂ֖ו שָׂנֵ֑אתִי וָאָשִׂ֤ים אֶת־הָרָיו֙ שְׁמָמָ֔ה וְאֶת־נַחֲלָת֖וֹ לְתַנּ֥וֹת מִדְבָּֽר׃
τὸν δὲ Ησαυ ἐμίσησα καὶ ἔταξα τὰ ὅρια αὐτοῦ εἰς ἀφανισμὸν καὶ τὴν κληρονομίαν αὐτοῦ εἰς δόματα ἐρήμου
Esau autem odio habui, et posui montes ejus in solitudinem, et haereditatem ejus in dracones deserti.
ወዔሳውሃ፡ ጸላእኩ፡ ወኣሰንኩ፡ በሐውርቲሁ፡ ወመክፈልቶ፡ ረሰይክዎ፡ በድወ።
but Esau I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness.”
1:4
כִּי־תֹאמַ֨ר אֱד֜וֹם רֻשַּׁ֗שְׁנוּ וְנָשׁוּב֙ וְנִבְנֶ֣ה חֳרָב֔וֹת כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת הֵ֥מָּה יִבְנ֖וּ וַאֲנִ֣י אֶהֱר֑וֹס וְקָרְא֤וּ לָהֶם֙ גְּב֣וּל רִשְׁעָ֔ה וְהָעָ֛ם אֲשֶׁר־זָעַ֥ם יְהֹוָ֖ה עַד־עוֹלָֽם׃
διότι ἐρεῖ ἡ Ιδουμαία κατέστραπται καὶ ἐπιστρέψωμεν καὶ ἀνοικοδομήσωμεν τὰς ἐρήμους τάδε λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ αὐτοὶ οἰκοδομήσουσιν καὶ ἐγὼ καταστρέψω καὶ ἐπικληθήσεται αὐτοῖς ὅρια ἀνομίας καὶ λαὸς ἐφ’ ὃν παρατέτακται κύριος ἕως αἰῶνος
Quod si dixerit Idumaea : Destructi sumus, sed revertentes aedificabimus quae destructa sunt : haec dicit Dominus exercituum : Isti aedificabunt, et ego destruam : et vocabuntur termini impietatis, et populus cui iratus est Dominus usque in aeternum.
እስመ፡ ይቤ፡ ናሁ፡ ወድቀተ፡ ኤዶምያስ፡ ንትመየጥ፡ ወንሕንጽ፡ መዝብራ። ከመዝ፡ ይመልክ፡ አንትመሙ፡ ተሐንጹ፡ ወአነ፡ አነስተ፡ ወይሰመይ፡ ብሔረ፡ ዓመፃ፡ ወይሬእያ፡ አዕይንቲክሙ፡ ሕዝበ፡ ዘሠርዐ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ እስከ፡ ለዓለም።
Whereas Edom says, “We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places,” Yahweh of Armies says, “They shall build, but I will throw down; and men will call them ‘The Wicked Land,’ even the people against whom Yahweh shows wrath forever.”
1:5
וְעֵינֵיכֶ֖ם תִּרְאֶ֑ינָה וְאַתֶּ֤ם תֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ יִגְדַּ֣ל יְהֹוָ֔ה מֵעַ֖ל לִגְב֥וּל יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
καὶ οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ ὑμῶν ὄψονται καὶ ὑμεῖς ἐρεῖτε ἐμεγαλύνθη κύριος ὑπεράνω τῶν ὁρίων τοῦ Ισραηλ
Et oculi vestri videbunt, et vos dicetis : Magnificetur Dominus super terminum Israël.
ወአንትሙሰ፡ ትበሉ፡ ዓቢይ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ መልዕልተ፡ በሐውርተ፡ እስራኤል።
Your eyes will see, and you will say, “Yahweh is great—even beyond the border of Israel!”
1:6
בֵּ֛ן יְכַבֵּ֥ד אָ֖ב וְעֶ֣בֶד אֲדֹנָ֑יו וְאִם־אָ֣ב אָ֣נִי אַיֵּ֣ה כְבוֹדִ֡י וְאִם־אֲדוֹנִ֣ים אָ֩נִי֩ אַיֵּ֨ה מוֹרָאִ֜י אָמַ֣ר׀ יְהֹוָ֣ה צְבָא֗וֹת לָכֶם֙ הַכֹּֽהֲנִים֙ בּוֹזֵ֣י שְׁמִ֔י וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֕ם בַּמֶּ֥ה בָזִ֖ינוּ אֶת־שְׁמֶֽךָ׃
υἱὸς δοξάζει πατέρα καὶ δοῦλος τὸν κύριον αὐτοῦ καὶ εἰ πατήρ εἰμι ἐγώ ποῦ ἐστιν ἡ δόξα μου καὶ εἰ κύριός εἰμι ἐγώ ποῦ ἐστιν ὁ φόβος μου λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ ὑμεῖς οἱ ἱερεῖς οἱ φαυλίζοντες τὸ ὄνομά μου καὶ εἴπατε ἐν τίνι ἐφαυλίσαμεν τὸ ὄνομά σου
Filius honorat patrem, et servus dominum suum. Si ergo pater ego sum, ubi est honor meus ? et si Dominus ego sum, ubi est timor meus ? dicit Dominus exercituum. Ad vos, o sacerdotes, qui despicitis nomen meum, et dixistis : In quo despeximus nomen tuum ?
ወልድኒአ፡ ያከብር፡ አባሁ፡ ወገብርኒ፡ የኀፍር፡ እዚኦ።እመሰኬ፡ አቡክሙ፡ አነ፡ ኤቴ፡ ዘአክበርክሙኒ፡ ወእመኒ፡ እግዚእክሙ፡ አነ፡ አይቴ፡ ዘፈራህክሙኒ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ዘኲሎ፡ ይመልክ። እስመ፡ አንትሙ፡ ካህናት፡ አርኮስክሙ፡ ስምየ፡ ወትብኒ፡ በምንት፡ አርኮስነ፡ ስመከ።
“A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, then where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is the respect due me?” says Yahweh of Armies to you priests who despise my name. “You say, ‘How have we despised your name?’
1:7
מַגִּישִׁ֤ים עַֽל־מִזְבְּחִי֙ לֶ֣חֶם מְגֹאָ֔ל וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֖ם בַּמֶּ֣ה גֵאַלְנ֑וּךָ בֶּאֱמׇרְכֶ֕ם שֻׁלְחַ֥ן יְהֹוָ֖ה נִבְזֶ֥ה הֽוּא׃
προσάγοντες πρὸς τὸ θυσιαστήριόν μου ἄρτους ἠλισγημένους καὶ εἴπατε ἐν τίνι ἠλισγήσαμεν αὐτούς ἐν τῷ λέγειν ὑμᾶς τράπεζα κυρίου ἐξουδενωμένη ἐστὶν καὶ τὰ ἐπιτιθέμενα βρώματα ἐξουδενωμένα
Offertis super altare meum panem pollutum, et dicitis : In quo polluimus te ? in eo quod dicitis : Mensa Domini despecta est.
እስመ፡ ወደይክሙ፡ ውስተ፡ ምስዋዕየ፡ ኀብስተ፡ ርኩሰ፡ ወትቤሉ፡ በምንትኑ፡ ኦርኮስነሁ፡ እስመ፡ ትብሉ፡ መእደ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ነውር፡ ውእቱ፡ ወእክሉሂ፡ ዘስሩዕ፡ ውስቴቱ፡ ምኑን፡ ውእቱ።
You offer polluted bread on my altar. You say, ‘How have we polluted you?’ In that you say, ‘Yahweh’s table is contemptible.’
1:8
וְכִי־תַגִּישׁ֨וּן עִוֵּ֤ר לִזְבֹּ֙חַ֙ אֵ֣ין רָ֔ע וְכִ֥י תַגִּ֛ישׁוּ פִּסֵּ֥חַ וְחֹלֶ֖ה אֵ֣ין רָ֑ע הַקְרִיבֵ֨הוּ נָ֜א לְפֶחָתֶ֗ךָ הֲיִרְצְךָ֙ א֚וֹ הֲיִשָּׂ֣א פָנֶ֔יךָ אָמַ֖ר יְהֹוָ֥ה צְבָאֽוֹת׃
διότι ἐὰν προσαγάγητε τυφλὸν εἰς θυσίαν οὐ κακόν καὶ ἐὰν προσαγάγητε χωλὸν ἢ ἄρρωστον οὐ κακόν προσάγαγε δὴ αὐτὸ τῷ ἡγουμένῳ σου εἰ προσδέξεται αὐτό εἰ λήμψεται πρόσωπόν σου λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ
Si offeratis caecum ad immolandum, nonne malum est ? et si offeratis claudum et languidum, nonne malum est ? offer illud duci tuo, si placuerit ei, aut si susceperit faciem tuam, dicit Dominus exercituum.
እስመ፡ ታበውእ፡ ነቋረ፡ ለመስዋዕት፡ ወኢኮነ፡ ሠናየ፡ ከማሁ፡ ወእመሂ፡ አምጻእክሙ፡ ሐንካሰ፡ ወድውየ፡ ኢኮነ፡ ሠናየ፡ ሰድ፡ እስኩ፡ ለመልአክከ፡ ለእመ፡ ይትመጠወከ፡ ወለእመ፡ ያደሉ፡ ለገጽከ፡ ይቤ፡ ላእግዚአብሔር፡ ዘኲሎ፡ ይመልክ።
When you offer the blind for sacrifice, isn’t that evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, isn’t that evil? Present it now to your governor! Will he be pleased with you? Or will he accept your person?” says Yahweh of Armies.
1:9
וְעַתָּ֛ה חַלּוּ־נָ֥א פְנֵי־אֵ֖ל וִֽיחׇנֵּ֑נוּ מִיֶּדְכֶם֙ הָ֣יְתָה זֹּ֔את הֲיִשָּׂ֤א מִכֶּם֙ פָּנִ֔ים אָמַ֖ר יְהֹוָ֥ה צְבָאֽוֹת׃
καὶ νῦν ἐξιλάσκεσθε τὸ πρόσωπον τοῦ θεοῦ ὑμῶν καὶ δεήθητε αὐτοῦ ἐν χερσὶν ὑμῶν γέγονεν ταῦτα εἰ λήμψομαι ἐξ ὑμῶν πρόσωπα ὑμῶν λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ
Et nunc deprecamini vultum Dei ut misereatur vestri (de manu enim vestra factum est hoc), si quomodo suscipiat facies vestras, dicit Dominus exercituum.
ወይእዜኒ፡ ተጋነዩ፡ ለገጸ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አምላክሙ፡ ወሰአልዎ፡ እስመ፡ በእዴክመሙ፡ ተገብረ፡ ዝንቱ፡ ወትሬእዩ፡ ለእመ፡ አደሉ፡ ለገጽክሙ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ዘኲሎ፡ ይመልክ።
“Now, please entreat the favor of God, that he may be gracious to us. With this, will he accept any of you?” says Yahweh of Armies.
1:10
מִ֤י גַם־בָּכֶם֙ וְיִסְגֹּ֣ר דְּלָתַ֔יִם וְלֹא־תָאִ֥ירוּ מִזְבְּחִ֖י חִנָּ֑ם אֵֽין־לִ֨י חֵ֜פֶץ בָּכֶ֗ם אָמַר֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת וּמִנְחָ֖ה לֹא־אֶרְצֶ֥ה מִיֶּדְכֶֽם׃
διότι καὶ ἐν ὑμῖν συγκλεισθήσονται θύραι καὶ οὐκ ἀνάψετε τὸ θυσιαστήριόν μου δωρεάν οὐκ ἔστιν μου θέλημα ἐν ὑμῖν λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ καὶ θυσίαν οὐ προσδέξομαι ἐκ τῶν χειρῶν ὑμῶν
Quis est in vobis qui claudat ostia, et incendat altare meum gratuito ? non est mihi voluntas in vobis, dicit Dominus exercituum, et munus non suscipiam de manu vestra.
እስመ፡ በእንቲአክሙ፡ ተዐጽወ፡ ኖኀት፡ ወኢታንድዱ፡ መስዋዕትየ፡ በከንቱ። ወኢይፈቅደክሙ፡ ይበ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ዘኲሎ፡ ይመልክ፡ ወኢይትሜጦ፡ መስዋዕተ፡ እምእዴክመሙ።
“Oh that there were one among you who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you,” says Yahweh of Armies, “neither will I accept an offering at your hand.
1:11
כִּ֣י מִמִּזְרַח־שֶׁ֜מֶשׁ וְעַד־מְבוֹא֗וֹ גָּד֤וֹל שְׁמִי֙ בַּגּוֹיִ֔ם וּבְכׇל־מָק֗וֹם מֻקְטָ֥ר מֻגָּ֛שׁ לִשְׁמִ֖י וּמִנְחָ֣ה טְהוֹרָ֑ה כִּֽי־גָד֤וֹל שְׁמִי֙ בַּגּוֹיִ֔ם אָמַ֖ר יְהֹוָ֥ה צְבָאֽוֹת׃
διότι ἀπ’ ἀνατολῶν ἡλίου ἕως δυσμῶν τὸ ὄνομά μου δεδόξασται ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν καὶ ἐν παντὶ τόπῳ θυμίαμα προσάγεται τῷ ὀνόματί μου καὶ θυσία καθαρά διότι μέγα τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ
Ab ortu enim solis usque ad occasum, magnum est nomen meum in gentibus, et in omni loco sacrificatur : et offertur nomini meo oblatio munda, quia magnum est nomen meum in gentibus, dicit Dominus exercituum.
እስመ፡ እምስራቀ፡ ፀሐይ፡ እስከነ፡ ዐረብ፡ ይሴባሕ፡ ስመየ፡ ውስተ፡ አሕዛብ፡ ወእምኲሉ፡ በሐውርት፡ ያመጽኡ፡ ዕታነ፡ ለስምየ፡ ወመስዋዕተ፡ ንጹሐ፡ እስመ፡ ዓቢይ፡ ስምየ፡ በውስተ፡ ኲሉ፡ አሕዛብ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ዘኲሎ፡ ይልክ።
For from the rising of the sun even to its going down, my name is great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to my name, and a pure offering; for my name is great among the nations,” says Yahweh of Armies.
1:12
וְאַתֶּ֖ם מְחַלְּלִ֣ים אוֹת֑וֹ בֶּאֱמׇרְכֶ֗ם שֻׁלְחַ֤ן אֲדֹנָי֙ מְגֹאָ֣ל ה֔וּא וְנִיב֖וֹ נִבְזֶ֥ה אׇכְלֽוֹ׃
ὑμεῖς δὲ βεβηλοῦτε αὐτὸ ἐν τῷ λέγειν ὑμᾶς τράπεζα κυρίου ἠλισγημένη ἐστίν καὶ τὰ ἐπιτιθέμενα ἐξουδένωνται βρώματα αὐτοῦ
Et vos polluistis illud in eo quod dicitis : Mensa Domini contaminata est, et quod superponitur contemptibilis est, cum igne qui illud devorat.
ወአንትሙሰ፡ ታረኲስዋ፡ እስመ፡ ትብሉ፡ ማዕደ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ነውር፡ ወእክሉሂ፡ ዘውስቴቱ፡ ምኑን፡ ውእቱ።
“But you profane it when you say, ‘Yahweh’s table is polluted, and its fruit, even its food, is contemptible.’
1:13
וַאֲמַרְתֶּם֩ הִנֵּ֨ה מַתְּלָאָ֜ה וְהִפַּחְתֶּ֣ם אוֹת֗וֹ אָמַר֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת וַהֲבֵאתֶ֣ם גָּז֗וּל וְאֶת־הַפִּסֵּ֙חַ֙ וְאֶת־הַ֣חוֹלֶ֔ה וַהֲבֵאתֶ֖ם אֶת־הַמִּנְחָ֑ה הַאֶרְצֶ֥ה אוֹתָ֛הּ מִיֶּדְכֶ֖ם אָמַ֥ר יְהֹוָֽה׃ {ס}
καὶ εἴπατε ταῦτα ἐκ κακοπαθείας ἐστίν καὶ ἐξεφύσησα αὐτὰ λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ καὶ εἰσεφέρετε ἁρπάγματα καὶ τὰ χωλὰ καὶ τὰ ἐνοχλούμενα καὶ ἐὰν φέρητε τὴν θυσίαν εἰ προσδέξομαι αὐτὰ ἐκ τῶν χειρῶν ὑμῶν λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ
Et dixistis : Ecce de labore, et exsufflastis illud, dicit Dominus exercituum : et intulistis de rapinis claudum et languidum, et intulistis munus : numquid suscipiam illud de manu vestra ? dicit Dominus.
ወትብሉ፡ ዝንቱ፡ እምእይ፡ ሕማም፡ ውእቱ፡ ወነፋኀክዎ፡ ይበ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ዘኲሎ፡ ይመልክ፡ እስመ፡ ታበውኡ፡ ዘሄድክ፡ ወሐንካሰ፡ ወድውየ፡ ውስተ፡ መስዋዕየ፡ ወእመሂ፡ አምጻእክሙ፡ መስዋዕተ፡ ኢይትሜጠዎ፡ እምእዴክመሙ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ዘኲሎ፡ ይመልክ።
You say also, ‘Behold, what a weariness it is!’ And you have sniffed at it”, says Yahweh of Armies; “and you have brought that which was taken by violence, the lame, and the sick; thus you bring the offering. Should I accept this at your hand?” says Yahweh.
1:14
וְאָר֣וּר נוֹכֵ֗ל וְיֵ֤שׁ בְּעֶדְרוֹ֙ זָכָ֔ר וְנֹדֵ֛ר וְזֹבֵ֥חַ מׇשְׁחָ֖ת לַאדֹנָ֑י כִּי֩ מֶ֨לֶךְ גָּד֜וֹל אָ֗נִי אָמַר֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת וּשְׁמִ֖י נוֹרָ֥א בַגּוֹיִֽם׃
καὶ ἐπικατάρατος ὃς ἦν δυνατὸς καὶ ὑπῆρχεν ἐν τῷ ποιμνίῳ αὐτοῦ ἄρσεν καὶ εὐχὴ αὐτοῦ ἐπ’ αὐτῷ καὶ θύει διεφθαρμένον τῷ κυρίῳ διότι βασιλεὺς μέγας ἐγώ εἰμι λέγει κύριος παντοκράτωρ καὶ τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐπιφανὲς ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν
Maledictus dolosus qui habet in grege suo masculum, et votum faciens immolat debile Domino : quia rex magnus ego, dicit Dominus exercituum, et nomen meum horribile in gentibus.
ርጉመ፡ ለይኩን፡ ኲሉ፡ ዘቦ፡ ተባዕተ፡ ወስተ፡ መራዕይሀሁ፡ ወቦ፡ በፅዓተ፡ ወእንዘ፡ ይትከሀሎ፡ ወሡዕ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር፡ ዘቦ፡ ነውረ፡ እስመ፡ ዓቢይ፡ ንጉስ፡ አነ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ዘኲሉ፡ ይመልክ፡ ወይሰማዕ፡ ስምየ፡ በውስተ፡ ኲሉ፡ አሕዛብ።
“But the deceiver is cursed who has in his flock a male, and vows and sacrifices to the Lord a defective thing; for I am a great King,” says Yahweh of Armies, “and my name is awesome among the nations.”
