37:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ πᾶς φίλος ἐρεῖ ἐφιλίασα κἀγώ ἀλλ’ ἔστιν φίλος ὀνόματι μόνον φίλος
Omnis amicus dicet : Et ego amicitiam copulavi : sed est amicus solo nomine amicus . Nonne tristitia inest usque ad mortem ?
ኵሉ ፡ ዘተዓረኮ ፡ ይብል ፡ ተዓረኩ ፡ አነኒ ፡ ባሕቱ ፡ ቦቱ ፡ ዐርከ ፡ ለስም ፡ በከ ፡ ዘይትዓረክ ።
Every friend will say, I also am his friend: But there is a friend, which is only a friend in name.
37:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ οὐχὶ λύπη ἔνι ἕως θανάτου ἑταῖρος καὶ φίλος τρεπόμενος εἰς ἔχθραν
sodalis autem et amicus ad inimicitiam convertentur .
ወሐዘንሰ ፡ ይነብር ፡(ውስተ ፡ ልብ ፡)እስከ ፡ አመ ፡ ዕለተ ፡ ሞት ፡(ወቦ ፡)ዐርክ ፡ ዘይከውነከ ፡ ጸላኤ ።
Is there not a grief in it even to death, When a companion and friend is turned to enmity?
37:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὦ πονηρὸν ἐνθύμημα πόθεν ἐνεκυλίσθης καλύψαι τὴν ξηρὰν ἐν δολιότητι
O præsumptio nequissima , unde creata es cooperire aridam malitia et dolositate illius ?
እኪት ፡ ፍትወት ፡ እምአይቴኑ ፡ አንኰርኰርኪ ፡ ወመላእኪ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ብሔር ፡ ኀጢአተ ።
O wicked imagination, whence came you rolling in To cover the dry land with deceitfulness?
37:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἑταῖρος φίλου ἐν εὐφροσύνῃ ἥδεται καὶ ἐν καιρῷ θλίψεως ἔσται ἀπέναντι
Sodalis amico conjucundatur in oblectationibus , et in tempore tribulationis adversarius erit .
ወቦ ፡ ዐርክ ፡ ዘይቀርበከ ፡ አመ ፡ ትፍሥሕትከ ፡ ወእምከመ ፡ ተመንደብከ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ይከውነከ ፡ ፀረከ ።
There is a companion, which rejoices in the gladness of a friend, But in time of affliction will be against him.
37:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἑταῖρος φίλῳ συμπονεῖ χάριν γαστρός ἔναντι πολέμου λήμψεται ἀσπίδα
Sodalis amico condolet causa ventris , et contra hostem accipiet scutum .
ወቦ ፡ ዐርክ ፡ ዘእንበይነ ፡ ከርሡ ፡ ይቴክዝ ፡ ለከ ፡ ሕማመከ ፡ ወእምከመቦ ፡ ዘዐለወከ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ይቀድም ፡ ይትቃተለከ ።
There is a companion, which for the belly’s sake labores with his friend, In the face of battle will take up the buckler.
37:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ μὴ ἐπιλάθῃ φίλου ἐν τῇ ψυχῇ σου καὶ μὴ ἀμνημονήσῃς αὐτοῦ ἐν χρήμασίν σου
Non obliviscaris amici tui in animo tuo , et non immemor sis illius in opibus tuis .
ኢትርሳዕ ፡ ዐርከከ ፡ እምከመ ፡ ተደሎከ ፡ ወኢትኅድጎ ፡ ለእምከመ ፡ ንዋየ ፡ ረከብከ ።
Forget not a friend in your soul; And be not unmindful of him in your riches.
37:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ πᾶς σύμβουλος ἐξαίρει βουλήν ἀλλ’ ἔστιν συμβουλεύων εἰς ἑαυτόν
Noli consiliari cum eo qui tibi insidiatur , et a zelantibus te absconde consilium .
ኵሉ ፡ መምክር ፡ ያመክር ፡ ምክረ ፡ ወቦ ፡ ዘያመክር ፡ ዘይበቊዕ ፡ ለርእሱ ።
Every counsellor extols counsel; But there is that counsels for himself.
37:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀπὸ συμβούλου φύλαξον τὴν ψυχήν σου καὶ γνῶθι πρότερον τίς αὐτοῦ χρεία καὶ γὰρ αὐτὸς ἑαυτῷ βουλεύσεται μήποτε βάλῃ ἐπὶ σοὶ κλῆρον
Omnis consiliarius prodit consilium , sed est consiliarius in semetipso .
ዕቀብ ፡ ልበከ ፡ እምነ ፡ ዘያመክረከ ፡ ቅድም ፡ አእምር ፡ ትካዞ ፡ በዘይፈቅደከ ፡ እስመ ፡ እንበይነ ፡ ርእሱ ፡ ያመክረከ ።
Let your soul beware of a counsellor, And know you before what is his interest (For he will take counsel for himself); Lest he cast the lot upon you,
37:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ εἴπῃ σοι καλὴ ἡ ὁδός σου καὶ στήσεται ἐξ ἀναντίας ἰδεῖν τὸ συμβησόμενόν σοι
A consiliario serva animam tuam : prius scito quæ sit illius necessitas : et ipse enim animo suo cogitabit :
ወይብለከ ፡ ሠናየ ፡ ገበርከ ፡ ወያመጽእ ፡ ለከ ፡ በዘ ፡ ያሀጕለከ ፡ ንዋየከ ፡ ወእምከመ ፡ ተጸነስከ ፡ ይኔጽረከ ፡ ወይሥሕቅ ፡ ላዕሌከ ።
And say to you, Your way is good: And he will stand near you, to see what will happen to you.
37:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ μὴ βουλεύου μετὰ τοῦ ὑποβλεπομένου σε καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν ζηλούντων σε κρύψον βουλήν
ne forte mittat sudem in terram , et dicat tibi :
ኢትትማከር ፡ ምስለ ፡ ዘይትዐቀበከ ፡ ወኅባእ ፡ ቃለከ ፡ እምነ ፡ ዘይትኃሠሠከ ።
Take not counsel with one that looks askance at you; And hide your counsel from such as are jealous of you.
37:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ μετὰ γυναικὸς περὶ τῆς ἀντιζήλου αὐτῆς καὶ μετὰ δειλοῦ περὶ πολέμου μετὰ ἐμπόρου περὶ μεταβολίας καὶ μετὰ ἀγοράζοντος περὶ πράσεως μετὰ βασκάνου περὶ εὐχαριστίας καὶ μετὰ ἀνελεήμονος περὶ χρηστοηθείας μετὰ ὀκνηροῦ περὶ παντὸς ἔργου καὶ μετὰ μισθίου ἐφετίου περὶ συντελείας οἰκέτῃ ἀργῷ περὶ πολλῆς ἐργασίας μὴ ἔπεχε ἐπὶ τούτοις περὶ πάσης συμβουλίας
Bona est via tua : et stet e contrario videre quid tibi eveniat .
ኢትትናገር ፡ ምስለ ፡ ብእሲት ፡ በዘታቀንኣ ፡ ወኢትትማከር ፡ ምስለ ፡ ፈራህ ፡ እንበይነ ፡ ፀብእ ፡ ኢትትማከር ፡ እንበይነ ፡ ረባሕ ፡ ምስለ ፡ ሠያጢ ፡ ወኢትትማከር ፡ ምስለ ፡ ነጋዲ ፡ እንበይነ ፡ ተግባር ፡ ወኢትትማከር ፡ ምስለ ፡ ደንጻዊ ፡ ለውሂበ ፡ ምጽዋት ፤ወኢትትማከር ፡ ምስለ ፡ ዐላዊ ፡ ለአግብኦ ፡ ዕሴት ፡ ወኢትትማከር ፡ ምስለ ፡ ሀካይ ፡ በእንተ ፡ ግብር ፡ ወኢትትማከር ፡ ምስለ ፡ ዐሳብ ፡ እንበይነ ፡ ጥብዖት ፡ ወኢትትማከር ፡ ምስለ ፡ አብድ ፡ እንበይነ ፡ ኪን ፤(ቅኒ ፡ ነባሬከ ፡ ወኢታንብሮ ፡ ፅሩዐ ፤)ወምስለዝ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ አልቦ ፡ ዘትትማከሮሙ ፡ እንበይነ ፡ ዝነገር ።
Take not counsel with a woman about her rival; Neither with a coward about war; Nor with a merchant about exchange; Nor with a buyer about selling; Nor with an envious man about thankfulness; Nor with an unmerciful man about kindliness; Nor with a sluggard about any kind of work; Nor with a hireling in your house about finishing his work; Nor with an idle servant about much business: Give not heed to these in any matter of counsel.
37:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀλλ’ ἢ μετὰ ἀνδρὸς εὐσεβοῦς ἐνδελέχιζε ὃν ἂν ἐπιγνῷς συντηροῦντα ἐντολάς ὃς ἐν τῇ ψυχῇ αὐτοῦ κατὰ τὴν ψυχήν σου καὶ ἐὰν πταίσῃς συναλγήσει σοι
Cum viro irreligioso tracta de sanctitate , et cum injusto de justitia , et cum muliere de ea quæ æmulatur , cum timido de bello , cum negotiatore de trajectione , cum emptore de venditione , cum viro livido de gratiis agendis ,
ምስለ ፡ ብእሲ ፡ ጻድቅ ፡ ዘልፈ ፡ ተናገር ፡ ምክረከ ፡ ዘታአምር ፡ ከመቦ ፡ ሃይማኖተ ፡ ወይፈርህ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ዘከመ ፡ ልብከ ፡ ልቡ ፡ ወእመኒ ፡ ተከዝከ ፡ የሐምም ፡ ሕማመከ ።
But rather be continually with a godly man, Whom you shall have known to be a keeper of the commandments, Who in his soul is as your own soul, And who will grieve with you, if you shall miscarry.
37:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ βουλὴν καρδίας στῆσον οὐ γὰρ ἔστιν σοι πιστότερος αὐτῆς
cum impio de pietate , cum inhonesto de honestate , cum operario agrario de omni opere ,
ወአቅም ፡ ምክረ ፡ ነፍስከ ፡ እስመ ፡ ይእቲ ፡ እምኵሉ ፡ ምእመንከ ።
And make the counsel of your heart to stand; For there is none more faithful to you than it.
37:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ ψυχὴ γὰρ ἀνδρὸς ἀπαγγέλλειν ἐνίοτε εἴωθεν ἢ ἑπτὰ σκοποὶ ἐπὶ μετεώρου καθήμενοι ἐπὶ σκοπῆς
cum operario annuali de consummatione anni , cum servo pigro de multa operatione . Non attendas his in omni consilio :
እስመ ፡ ነፍሱ ፡ ለሰብእ ፡ እንተ ፡ ትረክቦ ፡ ታሐዝቦ ፡ ፈድፋደ ፡ እምነ ፡ ፯ቱ ፡ አስባብ ፡ ሰብአ ፡ ዐይን ።
For a man’s soul is sometime wont to bring him tidings, More than seven watchmen that sit on high on a watch-tower.
37:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐπὶ πᾶσι τούτοις δεήθητι ὑψίστου ἵνα εὐθύνῃ ἐν ἀληθείᾳ τὴν ὁδόν σου
sed cum viro sancto assiduus esto , quemcumque cognoveris observantem timorem Dei :
ምስለ ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ጸሊ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ልዑል ፡ ከመ ፡ ያርትዓ ፡ በንጹሕ ፡(በጽድቅ ፡)፡ ለፍኖትከ ።
And above all this entreat the Most High, That he may direct your way in truth.
37:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀρχὴ παντὸς ἔργου λόγος καὶ πρὸ πάσης πράξεως βουλή
cujus anima est secundum animam tuam , et qui , cum titubaveris in tenebris , condolebit tibi .
ቀዳሜ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ትካዝ ፡ ነገር ፡ ወቀዳሜ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ግብር ፡ ምክር ።
Let reason be the beginning of every work, And let counsel go before every action.
37:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἴχνος ἀλλοιώσεως καρδίας τέσσαρα μέρη ἀνατέλλει
Cor boni consilii statue tecum : non est enim tibi aliud pluris illo .
አሠረ ፡ ልቡ ፡ ለብእሲ ፡ መርብዕተ ፡ ያስተርኢ ።
As a token of the changing of the heart,
37:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀγαθὸν καὶ κακόν ζωὴ καὶ θάνατος καὶ ἡ κυριεύουσα ἐνδελεχῶς αὐτῶν γλῶσσά ἐστιν
Anima viri sancti enuntiat aliquando vera , quam septem circumspectores sedentes in excelso ad speculandum .
ለእመኒ ፡ ለሐዘን ፡ ወለእመኒ ፡ ለትፍሥሕት ፡ እመኒ ፡ ለሞት ፡ ወእመኒ ፡ ለሕይወት ፡ ወልሳን ፡ ያመጽኦሙ ፡ ለኵሎሙ ።
four manner of things do rise up, Good and evil, life and death; And that which rules over them continually is the tongue.
37:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἔστιν ἀνὴρ πανοῦργος πολλῶν παιδευτής καὶ τῇ ἰδίᾳ ψυχῇ ἐστιν ἄχρηστος
Et in his omnibus deprecare Altissimum , ut dirigat in veritate viam tuam .
ወቦ ፡ ሰብእ ፡ ዘበኵሉ ፡ ይትሜየን ፡ ወብዙኀ ፡ ያአምር ፡ ወኢይክል ፡ በቊዖታ ፡ ለነፍሱ ።
There is one that is shrewd and the instructor of many, And yet is unprofitable to his own soul.
37:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἔστιν σοφιζόμενος ἐν λόγοις μισητός οὗτος πάσης τροφῆς καθυστερήσει
Ante omnia opera verbum verax præcedat te , et ante omnem actum consilium stabile .
ወቦ ፡ ዘይጠብብ ፡ በነገር ፡ ወያጸልእ ፡ ርእሶ ፡ ወለዘ ፡ ከመዝ ፡ የኀልፎ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ረባሕ ።
There is one that is subtle in words, and is hated; He shall be destitute of all food:
37:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ οὐ γὰρ ἐδόθη αὐτῷ παρὰ κυρίου χάρις ὅτι πάσης σοφίας ἐστερήθη
Verbum nequam immutabit cor : ex quo partes quatuor oriuntur : bonum et malum , vita et mors : et dominatrix illorum est assidua lingua . Est vir astutus multorum eruditor , et animæ suæ inutilis est .
እስመ ፡ ኢይሁቦ ፡[እግዚአብሔር ፡]ሞገሰ ፡ ወወጽአ ፡ እምኵሉ ፡ ጥበብ ።
For grace was not given him from the Lord; Because he is deprived of all wisdom.
37:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἔστιν σοφὸς τῇ ἰδίᾳ ψυχῇ καὶ οἱ καρποὶ τῆς συνέσεως αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ στόματος πιστοί
Vir peritus multos erudivit , et animæ suæ suavis est .
ሀሎ ፡ ዘይጠብብ ፡ ለነፍሱ ፡ ወይዪውህ ፡ በቃሉ ።
There is one that is wise to his own soul; And the fruits of his understanding are trustworthy in the mouth.
37:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀνὴρ σοφὸς τὸν ἑαυτοῦ λαὸν παιδεύσει καὶ οἱ καρποὶ τῆς συνέσεως αὐτοῦ πιστοί
Qui sophistice loquitur odibilis est : in omni re defraudabitur .
ብእሲ ፡ ጠቢብ ፡ ይጌሥጾሙ ፡ ለሕዝቡ ፡ ወይሜህሮሙ ፡ ጥበበ ፡ ለሰብኡ ።
A wise man will instruct his own people; And the fruits of his understanding are trustworthy.
37:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀνὴρ σοφὸς πλησθήσεται εὐλογίας καὶ μακαριοῦσιν αὐτὸν πάντες οἱ ὁρῶντες
Non est illi data a Domino gratia , omni enim sapientia defraudatus est .
ብእሲ ፡ ጠቢብ ፡ ይጸግብ ፡ እምበረከቱ ፡ ወያስተበፅዕዎ ፡ ኵሎሙ ፡ እለ ፡ ይሬእይዎ ።
A wise man shall be filled with blessing; And all those who see him shall call him happy.
37:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ ζωὴ ἀνδρὸς ἐν ἀριθμῷ ἡμερῶν καὶ αἱ ἡμέραι τοῦ Ισραηλ ἀναρίθμητοι
Est sapiens animæ suæ sapiens , et fructus sensus illius laudabilis .
መዋዕሊሁ ፡ ለእጓለ ፡ እመሕያው ፡ በኈልቊ ፡ ወመዋዕሊሁ ፡ ለእስራኤል ፡ ዘኢይትኌለቊ ።
The life of man is counted by days; And the days of Israel are innumerable.
37:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὁ σοφὸς ἐν τῷ λαῷ αὐτοῦ κληρονομήσει πίστιν καὶ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ζήσεται εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα
Vir sapiens plebem suam erudit , et fructus sensus illius fideles sunt .
ዘጠበበ ፡ በሕዝቡ ፡ ይረክብ ፡ ዕሴቶ ፡ ወይነብር ፡ ስሙ ፡ ለዝላፉ ።
The wise man shall inherit confidence among his people, And his name shall live forever.
37:27 ⧉ ⤴︎ τέκνον ἐν ζωῇ σου πείρασον τὴν ψυχήν σου καὶ ἰδὲ τί πονηρὸν αὐτῇ καὶ μὴ δῷς αὐτῇ
Vir sapiens implebitur benedictionibus , et videntes illum laudabunt .
ወልድየ ፡ እንዘ ፡ ሕያው ፡ አንተ ፡ አመክራ ፡ ለነፍስከ ፡ አእምር ፡ ዘይብእሳ ፡ ወኢተሀባ ።
My son, prove your soul in your life, And see what is evil for it, and give not that to it.
37:28 ⧉ ⤴︎ οὐ γὰρ πάντα πᾶσιν συμφέρει καὶ οὐ πᾶσα ψυχὴ ἐν παντὶ εὐδοκεῖ
Vita viri in numero dierum : dies autem Israël innumerabiles sunt .
እስመ ፡ አኮ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ዘይደልዋ ፡ ወአኮ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ዘታስተአድም ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ነፍስ ።
For all things are not profitable for all men, Neither has every soul pleasure in every thing.
37:29 ⧉ ⤴︎ μὴ ἀπληστεύου ἐν πάσῃ τρυφῇ καὶ μὴ ἐκχυθῇς ἐπὶ ἐδεσμάτων
Sapiens in populo hæreditabit honorem , et nomen illius erit vivens in æternum .
ወኢትሠሥዕ ፡ ለኵሉ ፡ መብልዕ ፡ ወኢተሐሢ ፡ ለኵሉ ፡ እክል ፡ ዘርኢከ ።
Be not insatiable in any luxury, And be not greedy on the things that you eatest.
37:30 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐν πολλοῖς γὰρ βρώμασιν ἔσται νόσος καὶ ἡ ἀπληστία ἐγγιεῖ ἕως χολέρας
Fili , in vita tua tenta animam tuam , et si fuerit nequam non des illi potestatem :
እስመ ፡ ያደዊ ፡ ብዙኀ ፡ በሊዕ ፡ ወያበዝኆ ፡ ለገብጥ ፡ ሥሥዕት ።
For in multitude of meats there shall be disease, And surfeiting shall come near to colic.
37:31 ⧉ ⤴︎ δῑ ἀπληστίαν πολλοὶ ἐτελεύτησαν ὁ δὲ προσέχων προσθήσει ζωήν
non enim omnia omnibus expediunt , et non omni animæ omne genus placet .
ወብዙኃን ፡ እለ ፡ ቀተሎሙ ፡ ሥሥዕት ፡ ወዘሰ ፡ በዐቅሙ ፡ ይበልዕ ፡ ጥዑይ ፡ ነፍሱ ።
Because of surfeiting have many perished; But he that takes heed shall prolong his life.
