For one should hope not only when it is the morning watch, before present circumstances are yet bright, but even amid the gloomiest circumstances.
But also, when the true light rises, the mind gifted with clear sight receives from God an increase of bright things, and release from gloomy ones.

'Let Israel hope' — for with him, as in a fountain, mercy too is found, coming from him who is himself at once redemption and propitiation, cleansing away sins with abundant sufficiency.

The twelfth ode teaches one who has been deemed worthy of propitiation not to be puffed up, trusting in his own improvement, but rather to be humble-minded.

Unless you turn and become as little children, you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven.
