ℹ️ This corpus has no verse-level morphological tagging. Lemmas come mainly from word-level tagging of other books in the same language (not from this verse), falling back to dictionary form-matching for the rest. Rare homographs can still be misread; verify against the original and a specialist lexicon where precision matters.

Not having searched out the hidden passions of malice, they have left the inner man of the soul untended, being fully satisfied only with outward righteousness.
For the care of the inner man is the removal of the aforesaid passions, and the complete working of the virtues through the grace of Christ, in gentleness, in equity, in much humility, in subjecting oneself to all and rendering evil for evil to no one, but praying to be last and lowlier than all—
For just as the soul, displaying bodily asceticism and labor, achieves it through toil and struggle, so also she ought to attend with all diligence to spiritual work—I mean the purity according to the inner man—so that, both inwardly and outwardly, according to the Lord's precept, the cup may be clean, lest we become like the counterfeit righteousness of the Pharisees, washing only the outside while having the inside full of filth.
These things now are addressed to those who, by reason of ignorance, have their reasoning blinded, and seem to have zeal for God, but do not have it according to knowledge.
But you, by the grace of Christ, hearing the evangelical and exact word of truth, and having acquired the understanding of Christ—you who have received in your heart, by actual experience of full assurance, the taste of grace—ought no longer to remain content with small virtues, nor to stand still at the brief consolation of God that has come to you, but ought to join longing to longing, and effort to effort, and zeal to zeal, and eagerness to eagerness, and fasting to fasting, and prayer to prayer, and vigil to vigil, and, in short, virtues to virtues, so that, perceiving day by day a sense of progress in full assurance, we may attain to a perfect man, to the measure of spiritual maturity, arrive at purity of heart, and be deemed worthy to come to perfect sanctification of soul and body in the fullness of grace, and thus, having truly become worthy of Christ, may inherit eternal life.
Let each of you, then, show forth progress in Christ through much humility and gentleness and equity; let us become servants and the trampled-ground of all, that we may be exalted by Christ.
Let us endure with joy being reproached, and despised, sneered at and reviled, that we may carry off the perfect heavenly reward, and receive whole the unfading crown of glory, not being provoked to anger for a small cause, nor jealous, nor enraged, nor lifted up with a proud mind, lest we fall from the life set before us.
For let the whole world and the things of the world perish, and let us alone remain untroubled, wholly occupied in pleasing God and desiring to do His commandments, so that, having perfectly accomplished the will of the Lord to the end, we may also be able perfectly to obtain eternal life, in Christ Jesus our Lord, with whom be glory, honor, and dominion to the Father, together with the all-holy, good, and life-giving Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages.
