Cumque Oammis hinc et inde spatianli- bus aliae domus huic discrimini subjacerent, nec esset dubium easdem hujus fomitis calore depasci, con- gregatus in circuitu populus nomen beati Martini coepit attentius invocare, et ne vicinas domos virtus ejus exuri permitteret, cum lacrymis deprecari : sicque ad elevatam vocem deflentium coepit crepitus flammæ decidere. Atque illis clamantibus ad coetum, advenit subito, Antistite ilnparLiente, præsidium; collisumque supplici oratione incendium, restinxit plebs per lacrymas quod nequiverat superare per undas. Eo tempore puer noster Laudovaldus d cum graviter a dysenteria faligareLur, ut de pulvere se­ pulcri accepit, protinus morbo caruit.
And when, as the flames spread on this side and that, other houses lay exposed to this peril, and there was no doubt that they too would be devoured by the heat of this kindling, the people gathered round about began more earnestly to invoke the name of blessed Martin, and with tears to beseech that his power would not allow the neighbouring houses to be burned; and so, at the upraised voice of the weeping crowd, the crackling of the flame began to fall away. And as they cried out to the assembly, suddenly, by the bishop's bestowal, protection arrived; and the crowd, by their tears, extinguished the fire beaten down by suppliant prayer, which they could not have overcome by water. At that time our boy Laudovaldus, when he was being grievously afflicted by dysentery, as soon as he received some of the dust of the sepulchre, was at once freed of the disease.
