1:7263
For these are the ones who say:
1:7264
Even though our outer man is decaying, yet the inner man is being renewed.
1:7265
their daughters are adorned, arrayed like the likeness of a temple,
1:7266
for they pretended, affecting a manner of life according to the Law.
1:7267
But they did not have the Word within them, but rather the evil spirit.
1:7268
their storehouses are full, overflowing from this into that;
1:7269
For they treasured up not heavenly, but earthly wealth.
1:7270
their sheep are prolific, multiplying in their pastures;
1:7271
and their cattle are fat and fertile.
1:7272
there is no breach in the wall, nor any going out.
1:7273
他說,他們曾享有極大的興旺;
They had, he says, great prosperity;
1:7274
but it will not stand for them until the end.
1:7275
For he taught this in another psalm, saying:
1:7276
You cast them down when they were lifted up.
1:7277
They called blessed the people to whom these things belong;
1:7278
blessed is the people whose God is the Lord.
1:7279
Those who do not judge rightly, but who imagine these very things of the flesh, suppose it blessed to come into great enjoyment of them.
1:7280
然而這並非真正的福氣;
But this is not blessedness;
1:7281
but rather to call upon the Lord as one's God
1:7282
I will exalt you, my God, my King
1:7283
並非彷彿他本無崇高而神才賜予他崇高;
Yet he does not ascribe this exaltation to him as to one who did not already possess it;
1:7284
but rather shows to others that he already possesses it.
1:7285
Father, glorify your name on earth
1:7286
因為他所求的並非自己所沒有的榮耀,而是求使他本已擁有的榮耀彰顯出來;
For he is not asking for a glory that he did not have, but that the glory he already possessed be made manifest;
1:7287
Every day I will bless you
1:7288
Among the Hebrews, the beginning of the present verse is [the letter] Beth.
1:7289
Not even a single day is to be let pass without hymns of praise.
1:7290
所以應當用全部的靈魂與心思來高舉並稱頌神;
With the whole soul and mind, then, one must exalt and bless God;
1:7291
but his name is to be glorified with mortal names and words.
1:7292
Generation and generation shall praise your works
1:7293
He speaks of the Church gathered from both peoples, both from those of the circumcision and from those of the nations.
1:7294
而他所說的『他的作為』,是指他在世上居住期間所行的;
And by 'his works' he means those which he performed during his sojourn on earth;
1:7295
並且用多種方式歌頌這些作為;
and he hymns them in many and various ways;
1:7296
能力、威嚴、榮耀、聖潔,以及奇妙的作為;
power, and magnificence, and glory, and holiness, and wonders;
1:7297
and again, calling them power and greatness and goodness, and righteousness and compassion.
1:7298
And they shall tell of the power of your terrible deeds
1:7299
They shall speak of it by their deeds, and with right understanding.
1:7300
It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
1:7301
And the verse, 'Shout to God with a voice of exultation;'
1:7302
for the Lord Most High is fearsome.
1:7303
For they shall say these things precisely by fearing and holding reverence for God.
1:7304
for only the Son knows the Father, and the Father the Son.
1:7305
But if he also reveals the Father to whomever he wills, it is nevertheless revealed only insofar as it is attainable for created beings to see, in proportion to the preparation each one possesses.
1:7306
They shall pour forth the memory of the abundance of your goodness
1:7307
他自己既是良善的神,便將慈愛賜給眾人,並憐憫他一切所造之工;
He himself, being a good God, has bestowed goodness upon all, and he has compassion on all his works;
1:7308
And those are saved who are willing to enjoy his goodness.
1:7309
我的靈魂哪,你要讚美主;
Praise the Lord, O my soul;
1:7310
I will praise the Lord as long as I live
1:7311
In that day all his thoughts shall perish
1:7312
At the time of death, he says, everything that he had thought shall prove but empty sound, and nothing shall remain of what he had imagined on earth.
1:7313
Understood spiritually, evidently, of those who hunger for every good thing.
1:7314
Praise the Lord, for a psalm is good
1:7315
在前一篇詩篇中,他勸勉自己唯獨將盼望寄託於神;
In the preceding psalm he exhorted himself to place his hope in God alone;
1:7316
but in this one he shows the apostolic choir teaching the multitude to praise God for the benefits he has conferred upon the human race.
1:7317
The Lord lifts up the meek
1:7318
By 'the meek' he means those who have received his faith, those who have imitated him who said:
1:7319
'But I hate sinners,' he says — meaning the unclean demons, who dwell in the fire.
1:7320
And green plants for the service of mankind
1:7321
那麼,「詩琴」乃是一種十弦的樂器,其聲音是從構造的上部發出,並使音符與人聲所出的旋律和諧地相配應;
The psaltery, then, is a ten-stringed musical instrument, producing its sound from the upper parts of its construction, rendering its notes harmoniously in accord with the melody that comes from the voice;
1:7322
called 'nabla' among the Hebrews, but named 'kithara' among the Greeks.
1:7323
因為他們製作了一根筆直而不彎曲的木材,並在其上張了十根弦;
For a straight, unbending piece of wood had been fashioned for them, and upon it ten strings were stretched;
1:7324
每一根弦都各自緊繫在詩琴的末端;
Each of the strings was fastened separately at the far end of the psaltery;
1:7325
while the starting points of the strings hung down from above.
1:7326
And this is what the great Basil says:
1:7327
"For on what charge, pray, did those who conspired against Christ hang him upon a cross? Is this not he who gave wisdom to the nations, who granted power to kings, who strengthens rulers in their rule, and who wrought among the Jews the greatest and most acclaimed wonders?" — Athanasius
1:7328
Here the word 'saying' is lacking, so that the sense may be as follows:
1:7329
'They gathered together against the Lord and against his Christ, saying:'
1:7330
敵對誰呢?就是敵對父與子;
Against whom? Against the Father and the Son;
1:7331
因為他們不願落入這神聖的羅網之中;
for they did not want to come within the sacred net;
1:7332
'Let us cast away the yoke' — that is, the evangelical law and the commandment, concerning which it is written:
1:7333
And rebuking them for this, he himself spoke through Jeremiah, saying:
1:7334
that is: 'You have so conducted your life as to shake off my service.'
1:7335
所以,這些話要嘛是以猶太人的口吻說的——他們拒絕對主的順服,既不願臣服於他,也不願臣服於父;
Either, then, these words are spoken in the person of the Jews, who reject submission to the Lord and are unwilling to be yoked either to him or to the Father;
1:7336
or else the Spirit gives this charge to those who believe, saying:
1:7337
'Let us not become like those who conspired against Christ, nor be bound together with them in like-mindedness;'
1:7338
'but let us shake off the heavy yoke of the old law, counting the things given in types as nothing, unless they be understood spiritually.'
1:7339
For the shadow is of no benefit unless it depicts the mystery of Christ.
1:7340
Or 'then' refers to the time of judgment, when they shall see him whom they pierced.
1:7341
For then he will terrify them, saying:
1:7342
Depart from me, you who are cursed
1:7343
And they experienced divine wrath also when the Roman army, coming upon them, both set the city on fire and destroyed the temple, and put the greater part of them to death.
1:7344
The title of the third psalm refers us to the account in the second book of Kingdoms.
1:7345
在這些兒子中,暗嫩是長子;
Among these was Amnon, who was the firstborn;
1:7346
but from another mother were Absalom and Tamar, both beautiful in appearance.
1:7347
And having defiled her, he then hated her and immediately sent her away.
1:7348
And she reported the outrage to her brother Absalom.
1:7349
And he was indignant, but concealed his anger.
1:7350
過了一段時間之後,他邀請暗嫩赴宴,將他殺死,並因懼怕父親的怒氣而逃走;
But after some time, having invited Amnon to a banquet, he killed him, and, fearing his father's wrath, he fled;
1:7351
Yet he was not immediately granted his father's presence, but only after two years.
1:7352
He then began to plot against his father: he furnished himself with chariots and horsemen, and won over to himself those who came to be judged by the king, drawing his subjects to himself under a show of fairness, and gathering together a multitude of rebels for a plot against his father.
1:7353
And in the end he revolted, and proclaimed himself king.
1:7354
It was at that time that Shimei also cursed him.
1:7355
But Hushai, since he had come to this father-slayer and was trusted as being well disposed toward him, was, together with Ahithophel, urged to say what needed to be said concerning the war.
1:7356
And Ahithophel urges him, once he has lain with his father's concubines, to pursue closely after him and fall upon him while he is unprepared.
1:7357
But Hushai declared nothing concerning the concubines,
1:7358
yet he did not allow Absalom to set out at once against his father,
1:7359
lest you bring ruin upon yourself, and be caught yourself in your father's hands.
1:7360
And when the father-slayer had said:
1:7361
"Hushai's counsel is better than the counsel of Ahithophel," Ahithophel, grieved, hanged himself.
1:7362
"Deal gently for my sake with the young man Absalom."
1:7363
λώμ·
戰事在以法蓮樹林中展開時,押沙龍軍中有兩萬人陣亡;
When the battle was joined in the forest of Ephraim, twenty thousand men fell from Absalom's army;
1:7364
and he himself, just as he was, fled, turning his bridle.
1:7365
But since he wore his hair thick and long, it became entangled in an oak,
1:7366
and the mule slipped out from beneath his legs,
1:7367
while he hung suspended in the tree, until someone saw him and reported it to Joab.
1:7368
And Joab, taking three darts in hand, drove them into Absalom's heart and killed him.
1:7369
"My son," he cried, "Absalom, my son!"
1:7370
He composed the psalm now before us while he was still being pursued.
1:7371
Who then could be the one truly and by nature beloved, if not Christ, who is fairer in beauty than the sons of men? And who is mighty in hand, if not the strong Jesus, who by the power of his divinity put to flight all the demons of the alien nations? For it was he whom sensible Israel according to the flesh — the Jews — pursued, as though he were another Absalom.
1:7372
Concerning whom he says through Isaiah:
1:7373
"I have brought up sons, and exalted them";
1:7374
猶大在這追趕之事上與人合謀,如同又一個亞希多弗;
and Judas cooperated in the pursuit, like another Ahithophel;
1:7375
for concerning him it is said in one of the psalms:
1:7376
"But you, O man of like soul with me, my guide and my familiar friend."
1:7377
But indeed Judas, like Ahithophel, went away and hanged himself,
1:7378
for he had said, "You shall be to me both heralds and witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
1:7379
And just as the mule and the hair delivered Absalom over to death, so too unreason and pride in outward, bodily things deprived the Jews of the true life,
1:7380
and allowed them to enjoy neither earth nor heaven.
1:7381
According to the great Athanasius, the passage here clearly reproves the unbelief of the Jews:
1:7382
"Sons of men, in whom there is no faithfulness."
1:7383
This too is true of the Jews:
1:7384
"Each one spoke vain things to his neighbor," gathering together their plots against our Savior.
1:7385
And indeed the poets and prose-writers among the Greeks, taking no care whatsoever to be truthful, composed without examination whatever seemed good to them, having one single aim: to make a display of their eloquence.
1:7386
According to the anagogical sense, however, in the present psalm he explicitly makes plain the utterly complete impiety and lawlessness of men's conduct, that he might proclaim the necessity of the appearing of Christ.
1:7387
神聖的亞他那修如此說;
Thus, then, says the divine Athanasius;
1:7388
but according to the great Basil:
1:7389
Athanasius and Basil, the great Fathers, say:
1:7390
...making use of things observed, he has made his beginning from what is nearest and first.
1:7391
He says that the "saints" here are those sanctified in the Spirit,
1:7392
而「基督的地」則是指教會;
and "the earth of Christ" is the Church;
1:7393
and "you have made wonderful" stands for "you have made manifest."
1:7394
「他的旨意」則是指父自己的旨意;
And "his wills" are the wills of the Father himself;
1:7395
to those sanctified in faith he made known the will of the Father.
1:7396
But you may also understand the verse in this way:
1:7397
"God has made the saints wonderful."
1:7398
What, then, does he say to those called from among the nations? Holy Cyril and the all-great Athanasius read as a question the verse, "Are there not speeches, nor words, whose voices are not heard?" — that is to say:
1:7399
Is it not the case that even mute things, or matters, or works, have voices apart from speech and tongue? "Yes," one might say.
1:7400
正如那五彩繽紛的衣裳高聲宣揚出織工的技藝,堅固無瑕的船隻宣告出造船匠,鐵匠的作品也彰顯出鐵匠本人;
For just as the richly variegated garment cries aloud the weaver's art, and the ship that holds together without flaw proclaims the shipbuilder, and the ironworker's product proclaims the ironworker,
1:7401
so too creation, which we have just mentioned, is voiceless, that is, without speech,
1:7402
yet its wonder is, as it were, its speech, and its beauty and good order are, as it were, its voice.
1:7403
For the heavenly narration, and the utterance proclaimed by the day, is not an articulate voice, nor speech uttered through a mouth,
1:7404
but it becomes a teaching of divine power to those who know how to attend to a silent voice.
1:7405
For they say that this whole universe is one living creature,
1:7406
and that the parts of which it is composed are likewise living creatures.
1:7407
這篇詩篇同樣以「終極」為題,其中含有對某些將來之事的預言;
This psalm too is entitled "unto the end," containing a prophecy of certain things to come;
1:7408
and it is also referred to the person of the apostles, as though praying together with Christ on the day of the cross.
1:7409
According to the great Athanasius, the "cedars of Lebanon" are the eminent men of the Jewish people, since Jerusalem is often called "Lebanon" in the divine Scripture.
1:7410
「牛犢」則指的是祭壇;
And the "calf" signifies the altar;
1:7411
therefore they themselves, together with their altar, are utterly broken to pieces.
1:7412
According to the divine Athanasius, the fact that Christ's prayer on behalf of the Jews turned back into his own bosom would signify that they remained in sin and gained no benefit, since by the excess of their senselessness they made his prayer turn back, as it were, upon itself.
1:7413
因為主看見那即將臨到他們的毀滅,以及他們最終的滅亡,就為他們哀慟;
For the Lord, seeing the destruction that was about to overtake them, and their final ruin, mourned on their behalf;
1:7414
yet they did such things that his prayer on their behalf was not conveyed to the Father's ears, but, as though repelled by the magnitude of their impiety, was drawn back down and turned back to him.
1:7415
"And my prayer shall return into my own bosom." For if they had been going to be saved and to turn away from their impious deeds, the Savior's prayer, running its straight course, would have passed unhindered and unimpeded to the Father's ears.
1:7416
But according to the most eminent Athanasius and Cyril:
1:7417
Since man now walks about in an image, and not in truth —
1:7418
for the true life belongs to the age to come —
1:7419
the psalmist fittingly called this image "vanity."
1:7420
For since we do not now live the true life, but the life as it were in an image, nor do we exert ourselves concerning the things that are truly good, we are therefore vainly troubled, turning about amid worldly desires, and gathering treasures whose heirs we do not know.
1:7421
According to the great Athanasius and Cyril:
1:7422
Since in the psalm before this one it was said by the Savior to the Father:
1:7423
"Raise me up, and I will repay them" — now the person of those who crucified him is set forth, who have suffered irremediable things, it being clear beforehand that they will later be received back, grafted in, as Paul says, to their own olive tree.
1:7424
Israel, therefore, repenting, says these things.
1:7425
Those who crucified the Lord, grieving over their fall and repenting, say that they thirst for God, and desire the fountain that is with him.
1:7426
And they long to come near to God, according to the disposition and sanctification that comes through faith in Christ.
1:7427
And him whom they killed, the author of our life, and delivered over to death — this one they now call the living God.
1:7428
『我幾時得朝見?』這句話,是那些切望未來蒙召、並想知道自己何時要在神與父的面前顯現(這與在子面前顯現乃是同一件事)之人所說的;
The phrase "When shall I come?" belongs to those who long for the calling that is to come later, and who seek to learn the time at which they too will appear before the face of God the Father (which is the same as that of the Son) —
1:7429
even though for now they are in a state of turning-away.
1:7430
"For I will turn my eyes away from you," he says.
1:7431
"When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies" —
1:7432
when this word came to pass in deed, the Romans having sacked them, they lamented —
1:7433
首先,是因為他們曾冒犯了神;
first, as having offended God;
1:7434
其次,是因為他們已從出於神的救恩中墮落;
then, as having fallen away from the salvation that comes from him;
1:7435
and third, because their neighbors, trampling upon them, said mockingly, "Where is your God?"
1:7436
According to Athanasius the Great, the present psalm too seems to have the same subject as the one placed before it.
1:7437
For again those of Israel come forward, asking for the salvation that is through Christ.
1:7438
"Send forth your light and your truth."
1:7439
因為他自己將要領他們進入聖山;
For he himself was about to lead them into the holy mountain;
1:7440
也就是進入天,進入上面的居所(他也稱之為帳幕),並進入那屬靈可悟的祭壇;
that is, into heaven and into the dwellings above (which he also calls tabernacles), and into the spiritual altar;
1:7441
and he himself was about to gladden their youth.
1:7442
By "youth" he means the gladness that also renews their soul.
1:7443
He has often taught us to understand the body as a lyre.
1:7444
Athanasius, Cyril, Theodoret
1:7445
那些出於受割禮之人、悔悟過來的,將神歸為自己的力量;
And those of the circumcision, repenting, ascribe to themselves God as their strength;
1:7446
那些出於外邦人、已經相信的,也將他立為自己的能力;
and those of the Gentiles who have believed set him as their might;
1:7447
and the captives do not hope to be redeemed by anyone else.
1:7448
He calls the body a lyre, through which the mind is naturally fitted to strike up music, sending up melody to God, as it were through the strings of the senses.
1:7449
For the sinews hint at the mortification, while the harmonies hint at the concord.
1:7450
He showed the brightness by the addition of "the lyre," and the love in the address that is repeated twice —
1:7451
"For O God," he says, "my God."
1:7452
為要使你明白,那位在萬有之上的神,正是那些出於受割禮、因熱心與信而悔悟的人,以及那些出於外邦、相信的人,所歸為自己特有之神的那一位;
So that you may learn that this God over all is the very God whom both those of the circumcision who repent through zeal and faith, and those of the Gentiles who believe, ascribe to themselves as their own;
1:7453
for whom also spiritual youth rejoices, standing opposed to the old man.
1:7454
For only he who is young in spirit and mind, akin to the new man and to the newness of the spirit, enters in to God, who gladdens such youth.
1:7455
依照偉大的阿他那修所言,此篇詩篇仍持守同一主旨:那些出於以色列的人,陳述古時的恩惠,悔悟過來,並認為自己配得基督重新接納,因為他們的盼望歸於他,且奉他的名而承認稱謝;
According to the great Athanasius, this psalm too still holds to the same subject: those of Israel recounting the ancient benefits, repenting and deeming themselves worthy to be received back by Christ, because their hope is ascribed to him, and they make confession in his name;
1:7456
but according to the golden-tongued Father, and so forth.
1:7457
他說:『從前你曾與我們一同出戰,作我們的元帥;
"Long ago," he says, "you campaigned together with us as our general;"
1:7458
如今你不但不與我們同去,反倒使我們轉身退卻,使我們在一切仇敵面前淪為末後;
"but now not only do you not go forth with us, but you have turned us back, and set us last of every adversary;"
1:7459
"so that we have even become plunder for those who hate us."
1:7460
依照偉大的阿他那修所言,這些話乃是先知的合唱班所說,將百姓的苦難視為己有;
These things, according to the great Athanasius, the prophetic choir says, making the people's misfortunes its own;
1:7461
but according to the others, it is the army of the Maccabees.
1:7462
They compare to sleep the great forbearance which God exercised on account of their sins.
1:7463
他們祈求在末後的日子裡,基督的顯現能賜給他們,好叫他們不致失去出於他的生命;
And they pray that the appearing of Christ in the last times be granted to them, so that they might not be deprived of the life that comes from him;
1:7464
『你為何掩面,忘記我們所受的苦難與患難?』神啊,你掩起自己的臉,轉過身去,為要不看見那些可恥、不合宜、且與你的目光格格不入的事;
"Why do you hide your face, and forget our affliction and tribulation?" You hide your own face, O God, and turn away, so as not to look upon shameful and unseemly things, and things alien to your sight;
1:7465
然而,既然我們就前述所成就的善行而言,理當坦然無懼,你為何掩面呢?我們既為你的敬虔緣故受了這許多苦難與艱辛,你為何忘記我們的苦難,亦即我們的貧乏呢?因為即便這些成就就我們而言是大的,但就你而言,卻全都是貧乏、微小、極其有限的;
but since we, with respect to the achievements just mentioned, hold boldness of speech, why do you hide your face? And since we suffer and endure such hardship for the sake of your piety, why do you forget our affliction, that is, our poverty? For even if these achievements are great as far as we are concerned, yet as far as you are concerned they are all poor and small and very little;
1:7466
The Jews too say that their soul has been humbled;
1:7467
since, having thrust away the mind of Christ, they fell into a carnal mindset.
1:7468
The verses also signify the return and calling of Israel that will take place in the last times.
1:7469
"Take hold of us, then, and grant your favor."
1:7470
他們承認,歸回的時機,就是向你所存的真信心;
And they confess that the time of return is the true faith in you;
1:7471
"For your name's sake" — they openly confess that those who have set themselves against Christ are not worthy of being shown mercy.
1:7472
Yet it befits him to show mercy, and to have compassion on human failings, for his own sake.
1:7473
"It is not for your sake that I act," says the Lord, "but for my name's sake."
1:7474
Athanasius the Great and the divine Cyril understand these words as spoken from the person of God the Father concerning the Word who was in the beginning with him, whom, they say, he brought forth as it were from his heart, or from his very inmost being.
1:7475
"My heart has belched forth a good word."
1:7476
For he has been begotten, as a word from the mind, good from good, God from God.
1:7477
Observe also the Father speaking as concerning the Son who became man:
1:7478
"I speak my works to the king."
1:7479
For he all but promises to teach him what sort of words he will use, bringing us in to do his works.
1:7480
By "works of God" we mean the pious way of life, which has been made manifest to us through the proclamations of the Gospel.
1:7481
And Christ, speaking to the Jews the things useful for salvation, referred his own words back to the Father, saying:
1:7482
"The Father loves the Son, and shows him all things that he himself does."
1:7483
The Father calls him "king" at that particular time, so that he might not seem, by the measure of his becoming man, to fall short of the dignity that is his by nature.
1:7484
For even after the dispensation he remained no less a king, being king from the Father who is king, and although he already existed as king and God, he is said to come into the rule of a king, on account of having become flesh.
1:7485
Thus also the things which he knows by nature, as God, these he is again said to hear, on account of the human nature, by way of dispensation.
1:7486
For Christ is the king, to whom the Father tells his works.
1:7487
他所稱為『道』的那一位,同一位他也稱為自己的『舌頭』;
And him whom he has called "Word," this same one he also calls his "tongue";
1:7488
as speaking nothing else than whatever fatherly will is within him.
1:7489
For among us too, the tongue conveys the mind to those outside.
1:7490
And he has been called "the pen of a swift-writing scribe," because to say something and for it to come to pass immediately, as in the saying:
1:7491
「你要潔淨了吧」,他立刻就潔淨了;
'Be cleansed,' and immediately he was cleansed;
1:7492
'Young man, I say to you, arise,' and immediately he arose
1:7493
But also, like a swift reed, he writes upon our hearts the will of the Father
1:7494
And the will of the Father, he himself says, is this: 'that of all he has given me I should lose nothing from it'
1:7495
Swift indeed is the reed of the Father
1:7496
摩西的律法藉著環繞字句打轉,只是隱約地指明有益的事;
For the law of Moses, through its circlings around the letter, indicated dimly what was profitable;
1:7497
but the common Savior made known the will of the Father concisely
1:7498
For he is the 'Angel of Great Counsel'
1:7499
'And the Lord will make a concise word throughout the whole world,' it says
1:7500
The great Athanasius ascribes even to the holy Theotokos the saying:
1:7501
'Hear, O daughter,' and also:
1:7502
'Hail, favored one, the Lord is with you'
1:7503
而加百列僅僅稱她為「蒙大恩者」,因為就她的出生而言,他與她並無關係;
And Gabriel simply calls her 'favored one,' being a stranger to her as regards her birth;
1:7504
The psalm signifies the calling of the nations, being sung in the person of the holy apostles, who exhort the nations to leap for joy through good deeds at the victory that has come to pass over the guilty demons
1:7505
It is entitled, 'For the sons of Korah':
1:7506
not as though the ode had been composed entirely on their behalf, but as those who had been appointed to serve, through themselves, in the offering up of the ode
1:7507
As has been said, it is the person of the holy apostles, since they had been commanded to make disciples of all the nations
1:7508
既然信德已成為他們得著極多且極大恩惠的媒介;
Since faith has become for them the matchmaker of very many and great blessings;
1:7509
因為他們藉此蒙召得著神兒子的名分,並得以有分於聖靈,成為神性的分享者,又因來自天上的恩賜而富足,也一同有分於聖徒的盼望;
for through it they have been called to the adoption of God, and to participation in the Holy Spirit, and have become partakers of the divine nature, and have been enriched with the gifts from heaven, and have been made fellow-partakers of the hope of the saints;
1:7510
For this reason, then, it is altogether fitting that they should be bidden to keep festival
1:7511
神聖的亞他那修說,「萬民萬國」是指撒但以及與他同夥的邪惡勢力;
The divine Athanasius says that the 'peoples and nations' are Satan and the evil powers with him;
1:7512
'Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions'
1:7513
For he subjected the nations of the demons under the feet of the apostles
1:7514
This psalm too is sung in the person of the holy apostles, recounting the persecutions they endured on account of their preaching, and the victories that came to pass over these
1:7515
It is entitled 'A Song of a Psalm,' since moral philosophy has here run together with contemplative philosophy
1:7516
According to the great Athanasius, what is signified here is the war waged against the apostles on account of their preaching, both by the sensible kings of the nations, and indeed also by the invisible demons who formerly held dominion
1:7517
who were also amazed and astonished, beholding the help that came from God to the saints
1:7518
For the surpassing power of him who saves wrought in them both the wonder and the astonishment
1:7519
Then they were troubled, inasmuch as they had become enemies of God, and were as in birth pangs
1:7520
As for what is said next, if you attend to it you will understand it: 'ships of Tarshish' was the name given to ships that bore great wealth to Solomon, just as we have learned in the narrative of the Kingdoms
1:7521
By 'a violent wind' you are to understand certain intelligible powers, through whom he warred down the enemies of the apostles
1:7522
Because, having judged the cause of the nations, you drove out the hostile demon that was against them
1:7523
或者你也可以說:「錫安山」是指那些蒙受託付、達到神學高峰的人;
Or if you prefer, 'Mount Zion' refers to those entrusted with the height of theology;
1:7524
and the 'daughters of Judea' are the churches throughout the world, as founded by the apostles, who traced their lineage from the Jews
1:7525
He also charges those who preach to rejoice on account of the righteous judgments of God, by employing which he brought about the salvation of the world
1:7526
According to the great Athanasius, it is from the Zion above that the Lord will make his second coming, the manifest and glorious one, which he has also called 'the perfection of beauty'
1:7527
按大亞他那修所說,「靈」在此是指心思;
According to the great Athanasius, by 'spirit' he meant the mind;
1:7528
而所謂「正直」,則是指它的堅定穩固;
and by its being 'upright' he means its steadfastness;
1:7529
'Secure my mind, that it may no longer be easy for it to fall into sin'
1:7530
凡愛神的人,只要仍在這必死的生命中度日,實在都會真切地心灰意冷、憂慮不安;
Every God-loving person truly grows weary and is distressed while he lingers in this mortal life;
1:7531
and he is distressed also out of love for mankind, beholding the multitude of those who are perishing
1:7532
beholding the tyranny of the demons, he was filled with weariness; for this reason he beseeches that the Lord, having appeared, may deliver us from the hand of those who do violence to us
1:7533
'From the ends of the earth' signifies that he is offering his supplications on behalf of the whole world
1:7534
And not only that, but also indicating the great distance between the essence of God and that of men, according to what is said in Ecclesiastes:
1:7535
'God is in heaven above, and you are on earth below'
1:7536
Whereas Symmachus said more clearly, 'in being distressed,' the Seventy said more vividly and more forcefully, 'in growing weary'
1:7537
因為「憂慮」一詞,即使用在小事上也說得通;
For 'to be distressed' is said even of small matters;
1:7538
whereas 'to grow weary' is said altogether of great matters, whenever, because of the multitude of evils, a person is thereafter caught up in the midst of them, gives up in the face of them and, as it were, despairs, having cast aside the counsels of his mind, as being no longer able to bear them
1:7539
As for the sense, we have become stronger than the demons who assail us, through Christ, who has been named 'rock' by the blessed Paul
1:7540
And, that I may state the whole sense of the psalm's song, the discourse contains thanksgiving
1:7541
他說,我先前所提到的一切,之所以臨到了我,是因為你自己,神啊,將我舉起,並在你那裡的磐石上將我高舉,那磐石就是你的道;
For, he says, all that I have said before came to be mine, since you yourself, O God, lifted me up, and exalted me upon the rock that is with you, which is your Word;
1:7542
既然你藉著你的道將我高舉,使我升到高處,以致我不再居於地的中間,而是來到了地的至高之處;
Since, then, by your Word you exalted me, and raised me on high, so that I no longer dwell in the midst of the earth, but have come to be at its heights;
1:7543
你也已經引導了我,使我得以來到你的近旁,你成了我的盼望,因這盼望我必不至於蒙羞;
and you have already also guided me, so that I might arrive near to you, and you have become my hope, on account of which hope I shall not be put to shame;
1:7544
而且,儘管有許多屬靈的仇敵逼近,尋索我的性命,你獨自一人便足以取代他們眾人,成了我力量的高塔;
but also, when many intelligible enemies pressed upon me, those who sought my soul, you alone sufficed in place of them all, having become for me a tower of strength;
1:7545
having fittingly obtained all these things, to you I send up my hymns, as to the one who has become for me the cause of all good things
1:7546
既然引路者的本分乃是指明哪條路安全,並指證哪條路危險有害;
Since it is the proper task of guides to show which road is safe, and to bear witness which is treacherous and harmful;
1:7547
Christ too is found to have done this, when he says:
1:7548
'I am the way and the door'
1:7549
And 'tower of strength' is as if he were saying:
1:7550
'You have become a wall and a safeguard, so that I suffer nothing when my enemies assail me'
1:7551
For Christ is a firm, unshakable tower
1:7552
As for the sense: from the good things he has already received, he also hopes concerning the things to come, namely, that having come to be in the tabernacles above, he will forever be under his protection
1:7553
正如那些即將舉行節期的人,因節期臨近、已到門前,便預先滿心歡喜,將尚未來到的節期視為彷彿已然來到;
For just as those who are about to celebrate a feast, having it near and already at the doors, are filled beforehand with gladness, and behold the feast, not yet present, as though it were already present;
1:7554
so also the saints, having good hopes concerning the life to come, rejoice in it
1:7555
「翅膀」是指神那護理眷顧的能力;
And by 'wings' he means the providential powers of God;
1:7556
under which the God-loving man is sheltered, never departing from the tabernacle of God, but dwelling in it forever
1:7557
It should be known, however, that these things also contain a riddle of the true inheritance
1:7558
And this is eternal life
1:7559
然而,這將在來世被賜下;
But indeed this will be given in the age to come;
1:7560
But observe that the inheritance is also given to those who fear God
1:7561
If, then, this is given even to those who are inferior, much more is it given to those who have risen above them, that is, to those who love God.
1:7562
By saying indefinitely, 'to those who fear him,' and not adding 'Jews' or 'Greeks,' he extended grace to all men.
1:7563
Scripture is especially accustomed to call those who come from the Gentiles, and who fear the Lord, 'those who fear him.'
1:7564
And what is the inheritance but the kingdom of heaven, which the Savior spoke of in the Beatitudes?
