1:1987
你看見麼?我們從心裡鬆開一切兇惡的繩,解開一切記恨的強暴契約之扣,又全魂急速地善待鄰舍,我們就被知識的光照亮,脫離了不榮耀的情慾,充滿了各樣的美德,被神的榮耀照耀,並脫離一切的愚昧;
Do you see that in loosing every bond of unrighteousness from our heart, and undoing every knot of forced contracts of malice, and hastening to do good to our neighbor out of the whole soul, we are illumined with the light of knowledge, and are set free from the dishonorable passions, and are filled with every virtue, and are illumined by the glory of God, and are set free from all ignorance;
1:1988
and praying the things of Christ we are heard, and we shall have God with us continually, and we are filled with the desire that is according to God.
1:1989
Let us therefore love one another, that we also may be loved by God.
1:1990
Let us be long-suffering toward one another, and He is long-suffering toward our sins.
1:1991
Let us not render evil for evil, and we shall not receive according to our sins.
1:1992
For we find the forgiveness of our trespasses in the forgiveness of our brethren.
1:1993
And the mercy of God is hidden in mercy toward one's neighbor.
1:1994
'Forgive, and you shall be forgiven.'
1:1995
And, 'If you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you your trespasses.'
1:1996
'Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.'
1:1997
'With what measure you measure, it shall be measured to you in return.'
1:1998
看哪,主已白白賜給我們得救的途徑,並賜給我們永遠的權柄,可以成為神的兒女;
Behold, the Lord has freely granted us a way of salvation, and has given us eternal authority to become children of God;
1:1999
and henceforth our salvation lies in our own will.
1:2000
我們要順從祂,祂就不知疲倦地保護我們抵擋仇敵;
Let us obey Him, and He unwearyingly defends us against our enemies;
1:2001
'If My people had hearkened to Me,' He says, 'if Israel had walked in My ways,
1:2002
then in a moment I would have humbled their enemies, and against those who afflict them I would have turned My hand.'
1:2003
Let us set all our hope upon Him alone.
1:2004
And let us cast all our care upon Him alone, and He will deliver us from every affliction, and He will sustain our whole life.
1:2005
我們要從魂裡愛每一個人;
Let us love every man from the soul;
1:2006
卻不要把盼望寄託在任何人身上;
but let us set our hope upon no man;
1:2007
for as long as the Lord preserves us, all our friends cherish us, and all our enemies are powerless against us.
1:2008
But when the Lord forsakes us, then all our friends also forsake us, and all our enemies prevail against us.
1:2009
凡倚靠自己的,必跌得極慘;
But he also who trusts in himself shall fall with a terrible fall;
1:2010
but he who fears the Lord shall be exalted.
1:2011
'For I will not hope in my bow, and my sword shall not save me.
1:2012
For You saved us from those who afflict us, and put to shame those who hate us.'
1:2013
Let us not give way to thoughts which make light of our sins and divine that forgiveness of them has already taken place.
1:2014
For concerning these the Lord, securing us, said:
1:2015
'Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing;
1:2016
but inwardly they are ravening wolves.'
1:2017
因為只要我們的心思仍被罪攪擾,我們就還未得著罪的赦免;
For as long as our mind is troubled by sin, we have not yet obtained its forgiveness;
1:2018
for we have not yet brought forth fruits worthy of repentance.
1:2019
悔改的果子,就是魂的無情慾;
The fruit of repentance is the soul's dispassion;
1:2020
and dispassion is the blotting out of sin.
1:2021
But we do not yet have perfect dispassion, being at times troubled by the passions, and at times not troubled.
1:2022
We have not, then, perfectly obtained the forgiveness of sins.
1:2023
For from ancestral sin we were set free through holy baptism, but from the sin dared after baptism we are set free through repentance.
1:2024
Let us therefore repent genuinely, that being set free from the passions we may obtain the forgiveness of sins.
1:2025
Let us despise temporal things, that we may not, fighting with men because of them, transgress the commandment of love and fall away from the love of God.
1:2026
Let us walk by the Spirit, and we shall by no means fulfill the lust of the flesh.
1:2027
Let us watch, let us be sober, let us at last cast off the sleep of slothfulness.
1:2028
我們要效法救主聖潔的勇士;
Let us emulate the holy athletes of the Savior;
1:2029
let us imitate their struggles, forgetting the things behind, and stretching forward to the things before.
1:2030
Let us imitate their unceasing course, their burning zeal, the steadfastness of their self-control, the sanctification of their chastity, the nobility of their endurance, the forbearance of their long-suffering, the pity of their compassion, the calm of their meekness, the fervor of their zeal, the unfeigned quality of their love, the loftiness of their humility, the simplicity of their poverty, their courage, their kindness, their fairness.
1:2031
我們不要在宴樂中懶散,不要被(惡)念鬆懈,不要玷污良心;要竭力追求與眾人和睦,並要追求聖別;
Let us not be supine in pleasures, let us not be slackened by [evil] thoughts, let us not defile the conscience; let us pursue peace with all men, and holiness;
1:2032
without which no one shall see the Lord.
1:2033
And upon these things let us flee the world, brethren, and the world-ruler.
1:2034
Let us forsake the flesh, and the things of the flesh.
1:2035
我們要奔向諸天;
Let us run up into the heavens;
1:2036
there let us have our citizenship.
1:2037
Let us imitate the divine Apostle, let us lay hold of the Author of life, let us enjoy the fountain of life.
1:2038
我們要與眾天使一同歡舞,與眾天使長一同歌頌我們的主耶穌基督;
Let us dance with the angels, let us with the archangels hymn our Lord Jesus Christ;
1:2039
to whom be the glory and the might, together with the Father, with the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
1:2040
《關於神學並神兒子成肉身之安排的二百章》第一百章。(一)惟一的神,無始、不可測度,全然完滿地擁有「存在」的全部能力;
TWO HUNDRED CHAPTERS ON THEOLOGY and on the Incarnate Dispensation of the Son of God. FIRST CENTURY. (1) One God, without beginning, incomprehensible, possessing wholly and entirely the whole power of being;
1:2041
祂全然排除「何時」與「如何」存在的觀念;
utterly repelling the notion of when and how He is;
1:2042
as inaccessible to all, and not to be known by any of the things that are through any natural manifestation.
1:2043
(二)就我們所能認識的而言,神不是就祂自己而論的;
(2) God, as it is possible for us to know, is not in respect of Himself;
1:2044
祂既非開始,亦非中間,亦非終結,也全然不是那些在祂以下、自然可被觀察之物中的任何一樣;
He is neither beginning, nor middle, nor end, nor anything else whatever of those things naturally contemplated in the things that come after Him;
1:2045
for He is undefined and unmoved and infinite, being infinitely beyond all essence and power and activity.
1:2046
(3) Every essence, introducing along with itself its own definition, is by nature a beginning of the motion contemplated in it according to potentiality.
1:2047
And every natural motion toward activity, conceived after the essence
1:2048
在運作之前,便是中間,因為它按其性質乃居於二者之間;
but before the activity, is a middle, as being by nature distinguished according to the mean between both;
1:2049
and every activity, naturally circumscribed by its own principle, is the end of the essential motion conceived before it.
1:2050
(四)神不是本質,無論是按絕對意義上所說的本質,或按任何限定意義上所說的本質,以致祂也成為開始;
(4) God is not essence, either in the sense of essence spoken of absolutely or in any qualified sense, so as also to be a beginning;
1:2051
祂也不是能力,無論是按絕對或任何限定意義上所說的能力,以致祂也成為中間;
nor power, in the sense of power spoken of absolutely or in any qualified sense, so as also to be a middle;
1:2052
祂也不是運作,無論是按絕對或任何限定意義上所說的運作,以致祂也成為那按潛能在它之前所想之本質運動的終結;
nor activity, in the sense of activity spoken of absolutely or in any qualified sense, so as also to be the end of the essential motion conceived before it according to potentiality;
1:2053
祂乃是創造本質、超越本質的「存有」;
but He is the essence-making and super-essential Being;
1:2054
並是創造能力、超越能力的「根基」;
and the power-making and super-powerful Foundation;
1:2055
並是運行不息、產生一切運作的「定性」;
and the active and never-ending Habit productive of all activity;
1:2056
and, in short, the Maker of all essence and power and activity, of beginning and middle and end.
1:2057
(五)開始、中間與終結,乃是受時間分割之物的標記;
(5) Beginning and middle and end are marks of things divided by time;
1:2058
and one would speak truly in saying that they are also marks of things contemplated together in the age (aeon).
1:2059
因為時間,其運動既可被測量,便被數目所限定;
For time, having its motion measured, is circumscribed by number;
1:2060
but the age (aeon), having the category of 'when' conceived together with its existence, undergoes extension, as having received a beginning of being.
1:2061
And if time and the age are not without beginning, much more are the things contained in them.
1:2062
(6) One alone and only, by nature always and properly, is God, enclosing within Himself in every way the whole of proper being, as being also Himself higher than proper being.
1:2063
And if this be so, in no way whatever does anything anywhere of those things said to be have, on the whole, the property of properly being.
1:2064
所以全無一物自永遠與祂一同被觀察、在本質上有所不同;
Therefore nothing at all is contemplated together with Him from eternity as different in essence;
1:2065
neither age, nor time, nor any of the things that dwell in these.
1:2066
For 'properly being' and 'not properly being' never coincide with one another.
1:2067
(七)凡開始、中間與終結,都全然不能擺脫那關係的範疇;
(7) Every beginning and middle and end does not at all repudiate the relative category throughout;
1:2068
but God, being infinitely and infinitely times higher than every relation universally, is reasonably neither beginning nor middle nor end,

nor anything else whatever of those things in which the category of relation can be contemplated according to relation.
1:2072
(八)凡存在之物,都稱為可思想之物(理性所能理解的);
(8) All things that are are said to be objects of thought (intelligible);
1:2073
因為關於它們之認識的根據,是可被證明的;
having the principles of the knowledge concerning them as demonstrable;
1:2074
但神不被稱為可思想之物;
but God is not named as an object of thought;
1:2075
祂只是從那些可思想之物被相信為存在;
rather, He is believed merely to exist from the things that are objects of thought;
1:2076
wherefore none of the things that are objects of thought is in any way whatever comparable to Him.
1:2077
(九)凡存在之物的知識,按其性質都具有它們自己的根據作為證明,並藉此自然地受到限定;
(9) The knowledges of the things that are naturally possess, for their demonstration, their own proper principles, by which they naturally undergo circumscription;
1:2078
但神只是藉著那存在於諸物中的根據被相信為存在;
but God is believed merely to exist through the principles in the things that are;
1:2079
giving to the devout, more firmly than any demonstration, the confession and faith that He properly is.
1:2080
For faith is a true knowledge having indemonstrable principles, as being the substantiation of things beyond mind and reason.
1:2081
(10) God is the beginning and middle and end of the things that are, as working but not being acted upon, as also are all the other things by which He is named by us.
1:2082
因為祂作為創造者,乃是開始;
For He is a beginning as Creator;
1:2083
作為眷顧者,乃是中間;
and a middle, as Provider;
1:2084
[and an end, as final cause.] For 'of Him,' it says, 'and through Him, and unto Him are all things.'
1:2085
(11) No rational soul is by essence more honorable than [another] rational soul.
1:2086
因為神既是良善的,照著祂自己的形像創造每一個魂,使它生來就能自己運動;
For God, creating every soul according to His own image, as being good, brings it into being self-moving;
1:2087
and each, according to its purpose, either chooses for itself honor, or willingly admits dishonor through its works.
1:2088
(十二)神是公義的日頭,正如經上所記;
(12) God is the Sun of righteousness, as it is written;
1:2089
祂單純地將祂良善的光線照在萬人身上;
simply shining upon all the rays of His goodness;
1:2090
但魂照著它的意向,生來或成為蠟,作愛神的,或成為泥,作愛物質的;
but the soul, according to its disposition, is by nature apt to become either wax, as a lover of God, or clay, as a lover of matter;
1:2091
just as, then, the clay is by nature dried up by the sun;
1:2092
蠟卻自然地被軟化;
but the wax is naturally softened;
1:2093
照樣,凡愛物質、愛世界的魂,被神勸戒,卻像泥那樣在意向上抗拒,就剛硬了;
so also every soul that is a lover of matter and a lover of the world, being admonished by God and, like clay, resisting in its disposition, is hardened;
1:2094
並像法老那樣把自己推向滅亡;
and thrusts itself, like Pharaoh, toward destruction;
1:2095
but every soul that is a lover of God, like wax, is softened, and receiving the impressions and characters of divine things, becomes a dwelling-place of God in spirit.
1:2096
(13) He who has illumined his mind with divine intellections, and has accustomed his reason unceasingly to honor the Creator with divine hymns, and has sanctified his sense with undefiled imaginings;
1:2097
this one has added to the natural good 'according to the image' the gnomic good 'according to the likeness.'
1:2098
(十四)人若強迫自己的悟性只思想神並祂的諸般美德,就為神保守了魂無瑕疵;
(14) One keeps the soul unstained for God, if he constrains the understanding to think only of God and of His virtues;
1:2099
又立定自己的理性,作那同樣諸般美德正確的解釋者和闡明者;
and establishes the reason as a right interpreter and expounder of those same virtues;
1:2100
and teaches the sense to imagine piously the visible world and all things in it, announcing to the soul the magnificence of the principles in them.
1:2101
(十五)神將我們從那些施行暴虐的鬼魔的苦役中釋放出來,又賜給我們敬虔之愛的軛,就是謙卑;
(15) God, who freed us from the bitter slavery of the tyrannizing demons, has bestowed on us the loving yoke of godliness, namely humility;
1:2102
by which every diabolical power is subdued,
1:2103
while every good is wrought for those who choose it, and is preserved untampered with.
1:2104
(十六)信的人就敬畏;
(16) He who believes, fears;
1:2105
敬畏的人就謙卑下來;
and he who fears is humbled;
1:2106
謙卑的人就變為溫柔,得著一種習性,對那違反本性的怒氣與情慾之衝動不再起作用;
and he who is humbled becomes meek, having acquired a habit inactive toward the movements of incensive desire and concupiscence that are contrary to nature;
1:2107
溫柔的人就遵守誡命;
and he who is meek keeps the commandments;
1:2108
遵守誡命的人就得潔淨;
and he who keeps the commandments is purified;
1:2109
得潔淨的人就得光照;
and he who is purified is illumined;
1:2110
and he who is illumined is deemed worthy to share the bridal chamber of the mysteries with the Bridegroom-Word.
1:2111
(17) Just as a farmer, searching out a suitable plot in order to transplant some wild tree, stumbles upon an unhoped-for treasure,
1:2112
like the most blessed Jacob, when asked by his father the manner of his knowledge:
1:2113
"What is this that you found so quickly, my child?"
1:2114
"That which the Lord God delivered up before me."
1:2115
For whenever God delivers to us the wise contemplations of His own wisdom without toil, when we did not expect it, let us reckon that we have suddenly found a spiritual treasure.
1:2116
屬靈的農夫就是那受試驗合格的修道者,他把那向著可見之物的感官觀想,當作野樹,移植到屬靈(可悟)之物的境地裏;
For the spiritual farmer is the approved ascetic, who transplants the contemplation directed at the perception of visible things, as a wild tree, into the region of the intelligible;
1:2117
and finding a treasure—the manifestation, according to grace, of the wisdom that is in beings.
1:2118
(十八)對神聖洞見的認識,忽然臨到那因謙卑而未曾指望它的修道者;卻挫敗那為著炫耀,憑勞苦努力尋求它、卻尋不著之人的思慮;
(18) Knowledge of divine contemplations falling suddenly upon the ascetic who did not expect it because of his humility, breaks down the reasoning of the one who, for display's sake, seeks it with toil and labor and does not find it;
1:2119
and it begets in the senseless man groundless envy toward his brother, and a contriving of murder, and grief to himself, since he does not have the inflation that comes from praises.
1:2120
(十九)那些憑勞苦尋求知識卻失敗的人,或是因不信而失敗,或是因生來才質不足,便好爭辯、自高,敵對那些確有所知的人,正如古時的百姓敵對摩西;
(19) Those who seek knowledge with labor and fail, either fail through unbelief, or perhaps, being naturally untalented, they are inclined to contend and exalt themselves against those who do know—as the people of old did against Moses;
1:2121
to whom the Law fittingly says, that some, forcing their way, went up onto the mountain, and the Amorite who dwelt on that mountain came out and wounded them.
1:2122
For it is necessary that those who, for display's sake, counterfeit virtue, not only stumble in adulterating godliness, but also are wounded by their own conscience.
1:2123
(20) He who craves knowledge for display's sake and fails:
1:2124
既不可嫉妒鄰舍,也不可憂愁;
let him neither envy his neighbor nor grieve;
1:2125
but let him make his preparation in some of the neighboring matters, as has been enjoined,
1:2126
according to practice, first laboring through the body to prepare in the soul the readiness for knowledge.
1:2127
(二十一)那些以正直和敬虔親近萬有、絕不謀求任何自我炫耀的人,必發現萬有那發出全然光輝的洞見前來迎接他們,使他們得著對其自身最精確的領悟;
(21) Those who rightly and with godliness approach beings, devising no manner of self-display, will find the all-radiant contemplations of beings going out to meet them, producing in them a most exact apprehension of themselves;
1:2128
「你們進去的時候,要承受那廣大美好的城邑,並裝滿各樣美物的房屋,不是你們所建造的;
"When you enter in, you shall inherit great and beautiful cities, and houses full of all good things, which you did not build;
1:2129
並開鑿成的水井,不是你們所開鑿的;
and cisterns hewn out, which you did not hew;
1:2130
and vineyards and olive groves, which you did not plant."
1:2131
For he who lives not to himself but to God becomes full of all the divine gifts of grace,
1:2132
which until now, because of the besetting harassment of the passions, were not appearing.
1:2133
(22) Just as perception is spoken of in two ways:
1:2134
the one that is ours even when we are asleep, apprehending none of the underlying objects—
1:2135
這種感覺若不伸向實際的運作,就毫無益處;
of which there is no benefit, when it is not stretched toward activity;
1:2136
and the one by which we apprehend sensible things—
1:2137
知識也同樣有兩種:一種是學理性的,僅憑習性收集萬有的內在道理(邏各斯);
so too knowledge is twofold: the scientific, which gathers up the inner principles of beings by mere habit;
1:2138
這種知識若不伸展到遵行誡命的實際運作,也毫無益處;
of which there is no benefit, when it is not extended toward the activity of the commandments;
1:2139
and the other, practical according to activity, which through the experience of beings brings the true apprehension itself.
1:2140
(23) The hypocrite, so long as he seems to escape notice, keeps quiet,
1:2141
hunting after the reputation of seeming to be righteous.
1:2142
可是一旦被察覺,他便發出致死的言語,以為藉著辱罵別人,可以遮蓋自己的醜態;
But when he is detected, he puts forward death-bearing words, thinking by railings against others to cover up his own indecency;
1:2143
聖言把這樣的人比作毒蛇的種類,是反覆無常的,並吩咐他要結出與悔改相稱的果子;
him the Word likened to a brood of vipers, as fickle, and commanded him to bring forth fruits worthy of repentance;
1:2144
that is, to transform the hidden disposition of the heart toward the manifest ways of conduct.
1:2145
(二十四)有人說,凡按那論及空中、地上、海中活物的律法被斷為不潔的,都算為野獸,縱然牠在性情上看似馴良;
(24) Some say that a beast is everything which, by the law concerning the animals in air and on earth and in the sea, has been judged unclean, even if it seem tame in temperament;
1:2146
by which names the Word designates each of men according to his own proper passion.
1:2147
(25) He who feigns friendship to the harm of his neighbors is a wolf concealing his own malice with a sheepskin.
1:2148
他一旦發現有人單純地照著基督所行、所說的、未加修飾的言行,就攫取它、敗壞它;
When he finds a bare custom or word done or spoken simply according to Christ, he seizes and corrupts it;
1:2149
傾倒無數的譭謗,加在他們的言語或行為上;
pouring out countless reproaches, which he fastens upon their words or their ways;
1:2150
like a spy upon the freedom of the brethren in Christ.
1:2151
(二十六)那為惡毒而假裝緘默的人,向鄰舍設計詭詐;
(26) He who feigns silence for the sake of malice contrives deceit for his neighbor;
1:2152
failing of which, he departs, having added pain to his own passion.
1:2153
But he who is silent for the sake of benefit increases friendship, and will depart rejoicing, as one who has received an illumination that delivers from darkness.
1:2154
(二十七)那在會中冒然打斷別人所講之話、不容人聽的,瞞不過人,乃是患了愛慕虛榮的病;
(27) He who in an assembly rashly cuts off the hearing of words has not escaped notice as ailing with vainglory;
1:2155
by which being captured, he puts forward countless runnings and circlings of propositions, wishing to break apart the coherence of what is being said.
1:2156
(二十八)有智慧的人,無論教導人或受人教導,都只願教導並學習那有益處的事;
(28) The wise man, both teaching and being taught, wishes to teach and to be taught only the things that profit;
1:2157
but he who is wise in seeming, both asking and being asked, puts forward only the more superfluous things.
1:2158
(29) Of whatever good things one has partaken according to the grace of God, he is a debtor to impart them ungrudgingly to others as well.
1:2159
For he who hides the gift under the earth slanders the Lord as harsh, abjuring virtue out of sparing of the flesh.
1:2160
But he who sells the truth to enemies, being later caught as a lover of glory, unable to bear the shame, hangs himself.
1:2161
(三十)那些對與情慾爭戰仍然膽怯、又懼怕那看不見之仇敵突襲的人,當保持緘默;
(30) Those who still tremble at the war against the passions, and fear the onset of the invisible enemies, ought to keep silent;
1:2162
意即不可為德行採用那論戰駁斥的方式;
that is, not to employ the mode of refutation on behalf of virtue;
1:2163
倒要藉禱告,把為自己的掛慮交託給神;
but to yield to God through prayer the care for themselves;
1:2164
to whom it is said in Exodus:
1:2165
"The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace."
1:2166
但那些在逼迫者已被除滅之後,為著感恩的學習而尋求諸德行之路的人,只當開著悟性的耳朵;
But those who, already after the destruction of their persecutors, are seeking out the modes of the virtues for grateful instruction, ought to have only the ear of the understanding open;
1:2167
to whom it is said, "Hear, O Israel."
1:2168
但那因已蒙潔淨、極其渴慕神聖知識的人,恭敬的坦然無懼是合宜的;
But to him who, on account of his purification, exceedingly longs for divine knowledge, reverent boldness is fitting;
1:2169
to whom it will be said, "Why do you cry out to Me?"
1:2170
所以,凡因懼怕而被命緘默的人,惟有投奔於神纔合宜;
Therefore, to him to whom silence is enjoined because of fear, only refuge to God is suitable;
1:2171
凡被勸勉要聽的人,那豫備好順服神聖誡命纔合宜;
but to him who is exhorted to hear, the readiness for obedience to the divine commandments is fitting;
1:2172
but to the gnostic, it is appropriate to cry out unceasingly in supplication, both for the averting of evils and for thanksgiving for the participation of good things.
1:2173
(31) Never can the soul be extended toward the knowledge of God, unless God Himself, using condescension, lays hold of it and leads it up to Himself.
1:2174
For the human mind would not have had such strength to run up so as to lay hold of some divine illumination, unless God Himself drew it up—as far as it was possible for the human mind to be drawn up—and illumined it with the divine rays.
1:2175
(32) He who imitates the disciples of the Lord does not refuse, on account of the Pharisees, to make his way on the Sabbath through the grain fields and to pluck the ears of grain; but having come, after the practical life, into dispassion, he gathers up the inner principles of the things that have come to be, piously nourished by the divine knowledge of beings.
1:2176
(三十三)那單照福音為信徒的人,藉著行動挪移自己邪惡的山;
(33) He who is faithful only according to the Gospel removes the mountain of his own evil through action;
1:2177
thrusting from himself, by the unstable revolution of the things subject to sense-perception, his former disposition toward them.
1:2178
但那能作門徒的人,用手從聖言領受那屬靈知識之餅的零碎,餧養了千千萬萬人;
But he who is able to be a disciple, receiving from the Word with his hands the fragments of the gnostic loaves, nourishes thousands;
1:2179
showing by action the multiplied power of the word.
1:2180
但那剛強到也能作使徒的人,醫治各樣的病症和軟弱,趕出鬼魔;
But he who has been strong enough to be also an Apostle heals every disease and infirmity, casting out demons;
1:2181
意即把情慾的活動驅逐出去;
that is, putting to flight the activity of the passions;
1:2182
leading it back through hope, and also bracing up with the word of judgment those who have become slack through sloth.
1:2183
For having been bidden to tread upon serpents and scorpions, he makes to vanish the beginning and the end of sin.
1:2184
(三十四)凡是使徒和門徒,也必定是信徒;
(34) The Apostle and disciple is altogether also faithful;
1:2185
but the disciple is not altogether also an apostle, yet altogether faithful.
1:2186
至於那僅僅是信徒的,既不是門徒,也不是使徒;
And he who is only faithful is neither disciple nor apostle;
1:2187
yet he can, through life and contemplation, be transferred—the third into the rank and worth of the second, and the second into that of the first.
1:2188
(35) Whatever is fashioned in time according to time, when perfected, stands still, ceasing from natural increase.
1:2189
But whatever the knowledge of God works out according to virtue, when perfected, moves again toward increase.
1:2190
For their ends have been established as the beginnings of others.
1:2191
因為那藉著實行中的諸德行,使可朽壞之物的存在在自己裏面止息的人,就開始了另一些更為神聖的塑造;
For he who, through the virtues in practice, has caused the substance of corruptible things to cease in himself, has made a beginning of other, more divine configurations;
1:2192
for God never ceases from the good things, of which He never even had a beginning.
1:2193
For as it is proper to light to give light, so it is proper to God to do good.
1:2194
至於那引介屬靈(可悟)之物境界的福音,乃藉著善行的善舉而得發出光輝;
And to the Gospel, which introduces the condition of intelligible things, this is made resplendent through the beneficence of good works;
1:2195
縱然那些還不知道安息日是為人設立、人並非為安息日設立之人感到惱怒;
even if those are vexed who do not yet know that the Sabbath came to be for man, and not man for the Sabbath;
1:2196
and that the Son of Man is Lord also of the Sabbath.
1:2197
(三十六)在律法和先知書裏,有安息日、有眾安息日,也有安息日中的安息日;
(36) There is, in the Law and the Prophets, both a Sabbath and Sabbaths, and a Sabbath of Sabbaths;
1:2198
正如也有割禮,並割禮中的割禮;
just as also there is a circumcision, and a circumcision of circumcision;
1:2199
and a harvest, and a harvest of harvest, according to what is said: "When you reap your harvest."
1:2200
The first, then, is the consummation of practical, natural, and theological philosophy.
1:2201
The second is the release from coming-into-being and from the principles connected with coming-into-being.
1:2202
And the third is the bringing-in and enjoyment of the more spiritual principles concerning sense and mind.
1:2203
顯然,這三重的方式臨到所提及的每一件事,使那有屬靈知識的人,得知這些道理:摩西按此在聖地之外,臨終時守了安息;
And this happens, evidently, in a threefold manner for each of the things mentioned, so that the gnostic may know the principles according to which Moses keeps the Sabbath as he dies outside the holy land;
1:2204
嫩的兒子約書亞按此在過了約但河之後,行了割禮;
and Joshua the son of Nun circumcises, having crossed the Jordan;
1:2205
and those who inherit the good land bring to God the offering of the deferred double harvest.
1:2206

1:2207

having, through natural contemplation in the Spirit, laid aside even its very natural activity toward sense-perception.
1:2210

having drawn in the mind from all the more divine principles that are in beings;
1:2212
and having wholly bound it to God alone in a loving ecstasy, and having rendered it utterly immovable from God through the disposition of mystical relinquishment.

1:2217

which he fittingly offers who, from visible and invisible creatures, worthily honors the Creator.
1:2218
(四十四)還有另一個更為屬靈的收割,被稱為神自己的收割;
(44) There is also another, yet more spiritual harvest, said to be God's own;
1:2219
也有另一個更為奧祕的割禮;
and another, more mystical circumcision;
1:2220
神向自己的工作守安息,使人得安息,照著所說的:「莊稼(收割)固然多」;
God, keeping the Sabbath from His own works, gives rest, according to: "The harvest indeed is plentiful";
1:2221
又照著「心裏的割禮,在乎靈,不在乎儀文」;
and, "Circumcision of the heart in spirit";
1:2222
又照著「神賜福給第七日,定為聖日;
and, "God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it;
1:2223
because on it He rested from all His works which God began to make."
1:2224
(45) God's harvest is the universal abiding and establishing of the worthy in Him, coming to be at the consummation of the ages.
1:2225
(四十六)心裏在靈裏的割禮,乃是完全除去那按感官與心思、向著可感與可悟之物所運作的本性活動;
(46) Circumcision of the heart in spirit is the complete removal of the natural activities concerning sensible and intelligible things, exercised according to sense and mind;
1:2226
through the presence of the Spirit, which immediately transforms both the body and the soul wholly toward the more divine.
1:2227
(四十七)神的安息,乃是凡被造之物全然歸入祂裏面;
(47) God's Sabbath-rest is the coming of all that has been made wholly into Him;
1:2228
according to which He causes to cease their natural activity concerning them, working ineffably His own most divine activity.
1:2229
For God ceases from the natural activity that is, as the case may be, in each of beings, according to which each of beings is by nature apt to be moved, whenever each, having proportionately laid hold of the divine activity, defines its natural proper activity around God Himself.
1:2230
(四十八)殷勤的人當查究:當看哪些工作是神開始創生的;
(48) It must be sought out by the diligent: which works it is fitting to understand that God began to bring into being;
1:2231
and which, again, He did not begin.
1:2232
For if He rested from all the works which He began to make, it is clear that He did not rest from those which He did not begin to make.
1:2233
那麼,或許神那些在時間中開始存在的工作,就是一切有分(受造的、分受者)的存有;
Lest then perhaps the works of God that began to be in time are all the beings that participate;
1:2234
such as the diverse essences of beings.
1:2235
For non-being is older than their being.
1:2236
For there was once when the participating beings were not.
1:2237
但神那些或許未曾在時間中開始存在的工作,乃是那些被分受的(可被有分的)存有,凡有分的存有都按恩典從中分受;
But God's works that perhaps did not begin to be in time are the participated beings (the participables), of which the participating beings partake according to grace;
1:2238
such as goodness, and everything if anything is contained in the principle of goodness.
1:2239
並且,簡言之,一切的生命、不朽、單純、不變、無限,以及凡按本質所默想關乎祂的事;
And, simply, all life and immortality and simplicity and immutability and infinity, and whatever is essentially contemplated concerning Him;
1:2240
which are both works of God, and not begun in time.
1:2241
因為那「曾無有」絕不比德行更為先有;
For never is the "was not" older than virtue;
1:2242
也不比所提及的任何別的事更為先有;
nor than any other of the things mentioned;
1:2243
even if the things that participate in them, in themselves, have begun to be in time.
1:2244
因為一切德行都是無始的,沒有比自己更先有的時間;
For every virtue is without beginning, not having time older than itself;
1:2245
inasmuch as it has God, the sole one, as its eternal begetter of being.
1:2246
(49) From all beings, both participating and participable, God is infinitely and infinitely times removed.
1:2247
因為凡有「存在之道理」可被述說於其上的,都是神的工作;
For everything, if anything has the principle of being predicated of it, happens to be a work of God;
1:2248
縱然其一,是按著生成、在時間中開始存在;
even if the one, according to coming-into-being, has begun to be in time;
1:2249
while the other, according to grace, has been implanted in the things that have come to be, like a kind of innate power, loudly proclaiming the God who is in all.
1:2250
(五十)一切不朽的事物,與不朽本身;
(50) All immortal things, and immortality itself;
1:2251
並一切有生命的事物,與生命本身;
and all living things, and life itself;
1:2252
並一切聖潔的事物,與聖潔本身;
and all holy things, and holiness itself;
1:2253
並一切有德的事物,與德行本身;
and all virtuous things, and virtue itself;
1:2254
並一切美善的事物,與良善本身;
and all good things, and goodness itself;
1:2255
並一切存有,與「存有性」本身——顯然都是神的工作;
and all beings, and being-ness itself—manifestly happen to be works of God;
1:2256
只是一類,是在時間中開始存在的;
but the one sort, having begun to be in time;
1:2257
the other sort, not having begun to be in time.
1:2258
For there was not once when virtue and goodness and holiness and immortality were not.
1:2259
And the things that began in time are, and are called, that very thing which they both are and are called, by the participation of the things that did not begin in time.
1:2260
因為神是一切生命與不朽、聖潔與德行的創造者;
For God is the Maker of all life and immortality, holiness and virtue;
1:2261
for He is removed beyond the essence of all things that are thought and spoken of.
1:2262
(五十一)按照聖經,第六日引入那些在本性之下之存有的完成;
(51) The sixth day, according to Scripture, introduces the completion of the beings under nature;
1:2263
第七日則限定了時間屬性之運動的範圍;
and the seventh circumscribes the movement of temporal particularity;
1:2264
and the eighth intimates the mode of the condition that is beyond nature and time.
1:2265
(五十二)那只按律法守第六日的人,逃避那實際壓制魂的情慾權勢,便無懼地過了海,到了曠野;
(52) He who keeps only the sixth day according to the Law, fleeing the dominion of the passions that actively oppresses the soul, crosses through the sea without fear to the wilderness;
1:2266
keeping the Sabbath only with the cessation of the passions.
1:2267
But he who has crossed the Jordan, having left behind even that condition in which the passions are merely inactive, has come into the inheritance of the virtues.
1:2268
(五十三)那按福音守第六日的人,先除滅了罪的初動,便藉著諸德行得著那空無一切邪惡的曠野,就是無情無慾的境地;
(53) He who keeps the sixth day evangelically, having first slain the first movements of sin, attains the wilderness empty of all evil—the condition of dispassion—through the virtues;
1:2269
keeping the Sabbath in mind even from the bare fantasy of the passions.
1:2270
但那已渡過約但河的人,被遷到知識的境地;
But he who has crossed over the Jordan is transferred to the region of knowledge;
1:2271
according to which the mind, mystically built up by peace as a temple, becomes a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
