17:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיַּאַסְפ֨וּ פְלִשְׁתִּ֤ים אֶת ־מַֽחֲנֵיהֶם֙ לַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה וַיֵּאָ֣סְפ֔וּ שֹׂכֹ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר לִֽיהוּדָ֑ה וַֽיַּחֲנ֛וּ בֵּין ־שׂוֹכֹ֥ה וּבֵין ־עֲזֵקָ֖ה בְּאֶ֥פֶס דַּמִּֽים ׃
καὶ συνάγουσιν ἀλλόφυλοι τὰς παρεμβολὰς αὐτῶν εἰς πόλεμον καὶ συνάγονται εἰς Σοκχωθ τῆς Ιουδαίας καὶ παρεμβάλλουσιν ἀνὰ μέσον Σοκχωθ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον Αζηκα ἐν Εφερμεμ
Congregantes autem Philisthiim agmina sua in praelium , convenerunt in Socho Judae : et castrametati sunt inter Socho et Azeca in finibus Dommim .
ወአስተጋብኡ ፡ ኢሎፍሊ ፡ አሕዛቢሆሙ ፡ ለፀብእ ፡ ወተጋብኡ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ሰኰት ፡ ዘይሁዳ ፡ ወተዐየኑ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ሰኰት ፡ ወማእከለ ፡ አዜቃ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ሴፌርሜም ።
Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle; and they were gathered together at Socoh, which belongs to Judah, and encamped between Socoh and Azekah in Ephesdammim.
17:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְשָׁא֤וּל וְאִֽישׁ ־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ נֶֽאֶסְפ֔וּ וַֽיַּחֲנ֖וּ בְּעֵ֣מֶק הָאֵלָ֑ה וַיַּעַרְכ֥וּ מִלְחָמָ֖ה לִקְרַ֥את פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים ׃
καὶ Σαουλ καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες Ισραηλ συνάγονται καὶ παρεμβάλλουσιν ἐν τῇ κοιλάδι αὐτοὶ παρατάσσονται εἰς πόλεμον ἐξ ἐναντίας ἀλλοφύλων
Porro Saul et filii Israël congregati venerunt in Vallem terebinthi , et direxerunt aciem ad pugnandum contra Philisthiim .
ወተጋብኡ ፡ ሳኦል ፡ ወሰብአ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ወተዐየኑ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ቈላት ፡ ወሖሩ ፡ ይትቃተልዎሙ ፡ ለኢሎፍሊ ።
Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and encamped in the valley of Elah, and set the battle in array against the Philistines.
17:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ וּפְלִשְׁתִּ֞ים עֹמְדִ֤ים אֶל ־הָהָר֙ מִזֶּ֔ה וְיִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל עֹמְדִ֥ים אֶל ־הָהָ֖ר מִזֶּ֑ה וְהַגַּ֖יְא בֵּינֵיהֶֽם ׃
καὶ ἀλλόφυλοι ἵστανται ἐπὶ τοῦ ὄρους ἐνταῦθα καὶ Ισραηλ ἵσταται ἐπὶ τοῦ ὄρους ἐνταῦθα καὶ ὁ αὐλὼν ἀνὰ μέσον αὐτῶν
Et Philisthiim stabant super montem ex parte hac , et Israël stabat supra montem ex altera parte : vallisque erat inter eos .
ወኢሎፍሊሰ ፡ ይቀውሙ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ደብር ፡ [ወእስራኤል ፡ ይቀውሙ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ደብር ፡] እምዝንቱ ፡ ገቦ ፡ ወማእከሎሙ ፡ መሰንቃዊ ።
The Philistines stood on the mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on the mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them.
17:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֵּצֵ֤א אִֽישׁ ־הַבֵּנַ֙יִם֙ מִמַּחֲנ֣וֹת פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים גׇּלְיָ֥ת שְׁמ֖וֹ מִגַּ֑ת גׇּבְה֕וֹ שֵׁ֥שׁ אַמּ֖וֹת וָזָֽרֶת ׃
καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἀνὴρ δυνατὸς ἐκ τῆς παρατάξεως τῶν ἀλλοφύλων Γολιαθ ὄνομα αὐτῷ ἐκ Γεθ ὕψος αὐτοῦ τεσσάρων πήχεων καὶ σπιθαμῆς
Et egressus est vir spurius de castris Philisthinorum nomine Goliath , de Geth , altitudinis sex cubitorum et palmi :
ወወፅአ ፡ ብእሲ ፡ ጽኑዕ ፡ ዘኢሎፍሊ ፡ ወስሙ ፡ ጎልያድ ፡ ዘእምነ ፡ ጌት ፡ ወኑኁ ፡ ስድስ ፡ በእመት ፡ ወስዝር ።
A champion out of the camp of the Philistines named Goliath of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span went out.
17:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְכ֤וֹבַע נְחֹ֙שֶׁת֙ עַל ־רֹאשׁ֔וֹ וְשִׁרְי֥וֹן קַשְׂקַשִּׂ֖ים ה֣וּא לָב֑וּשׁ וּמִשְׁקַל֙ הַשִּׁרְי֔וֹן חֲמֵשֶׁת ־אֲלָפִ֥ים שְׁקָלִ֖ים נְחֹֽשֶׁת ׃
καὶ περικεφαλαία ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ καὶ θώρακα ἁλυσιδωτὸν αὐτὸς ἐνδεδυκώς καὶ ὁ σταθμὸς τοῦ θώρακος αὐτοῦ πέντε χιλιάδες σίκλων χαλκοῦ καὶ σιδήρου
et cassis aerea super caput ejus , et lorica squamata induebatur . Porro pondus loricae ejus , quinque millia siclorum aeris erat :
ወጌራ ፡ ዘብርት ፡ ውስተ ፡ ርእሱ ፡ ወይለብስ ፡ ልብሰ ፡ ኀጺን ፡ ወድልወቱ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ብርት ፡ ወኀጺን ፡ ዘላዕሌሁ ፡ ፶፻ሰቅሎን ።
He had a helmet of bronze on his head, and he wore a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze.
17:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ וּמִצְחַ֥ת נְחֹ֖שֶׁת עַל ־רַגְלָ֑יו וְכִיד֥וֹן נְחֹ֖שֶׁת בֵּ֥ין כְּתֵפָֽיו ׃
καὶ κνημῖδες χαλκαῖ ἐπάνω τῶν σκελῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀσπὶς χαλκῆ ἀνὰ μέσον τῶν ὤμων αὐτοῦ
et ocreas aereas habebat in cruribus , et clypeus aereus tegebat humeros ejus .
ወውስተ ፡ አዕማደ ፡ እገሪሁ ፡ ልቡስ ፡ ብርተ ፡ ወአራዊተ ፡ ብርት ፡ ማእከለ ፡ መታክፍቲሁ ።
He had bronze shin armor on his legs and a bronze javelin between his shoulders.
17:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ (וחץ ) [וְעֵ֣ץ ] חֲנִית֗וֹ כִּמְנוֹר֙ אֹֽרְגִ֔ים וְלַהֶ֣בֶת חֲנִית֔וֹ שֵׁשׁ ־מֵא֥וֹת שְׁקָלִ֖ים בַּרְזֶ֑ל וְנֹשֵׂ֥א הַצִּנָּ֖ה הֹלֵ֥ךְ לְפָנָֽיו ׃
καὶ ὁ κοντὸς τοῦ δόρατος αὐτοῦ ὡσεὶ μέσακλον ὑφαινόντων καὶ ἡ λόγχη αὐτοῦ ἑξακοσίων σίκλων σιδήρου καὶ ὁ αἴρων τὰ ὅπλα αὐτοῦ προεπορεύετο αὐτοῦ
Hastile autem hastae ejus erat quasi liciatorium texentium : ipsum autem ferrum hastae ejus sexcentos siclos habebat ferri : et armiger ejus antecedebat eum .
ወረምሑ ፡ ከመ ፡ መስቀሎን ፡ (ስቅሱቅ ፡ ላዕሌሁ ፡) ወኲናቱ ፡ ፮፻ሰቅሎን ፡ ኀጺኑ ፡ ወዘይጸውር ፡ ንዋየ ፡ ሐቅሉ ፡ የሐውር ፡ ቅድሜሁ ።
The staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam; and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron. His shield bearer went before him.
17:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַֽיַּעֲמֹ֗ד וַיִּקְרָא֙ אֶל ־מַעַרְכֹ֣ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לָהֶ֔ם לָ֥מָּה תֵצְא֖וּ לַעֲרֹ֣ךְ מִלְחָמָ֑ה הֲל֧וֹא אָנֹכִ֣י הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֗י וְאַתֶּם֙ עֲבָדִ֣ים לְשָׁא֔וּל בְּרוּ ־לָכֶ֥ם אִ֖ישׁ וְיֵרֵ֥ד אֵלָֽי ׃
καὶ ἔστη καὶ ἀνεβόησεν εἰς τὴν παράταξιν Ισραηλ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς τί ἐκπορεύεσθε παρατάξασθαι πολέμῳ ἐξ ἐναντίας ἡμῶν οὐκ ἐγώ εἰμι ἀλλόφυλος καὶ ὑμεῖς Εβραῖοι τοῦ Σαουλ ἐκλέξασθε ἑαυτοῖς ἄνδρα καὶ καταβήτω πρός με
Stansque clamabat adversum phalangas Israël , et dicebat eis : Quare venistis parati ad praelium ? numquid ego non sum Philisthaeus , et vos servi Saul ? eligite ex vobis virum , et descendat ad singulare certamen .
ወቆመ ፡ ወጸርኀ ፡ ሎሙ ፡ ለእስራኤል ፡ ወይቤሎሙ ፡ ምንተ ፡ ወፃእክሙ ፡ ትፅብኡ ፡ ወትትቃተሉ ፡ ምስሌነ ፤ አኮኑ ፡ አነ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ኢሎፍላዊ ፡ ወአንትሙ ፡ ዕብራዊያን ፡ ዘሳኦል ፤ ኅረዩ ፡ እምውስቴትክሙ ፡ ብእሴ ፡ ወይረድ ፡ ኀቤየ ።
He stood and cried to the armies of Israel, and said to them, “Why have you come out to set your battle in array? Am I not a Philistine, and you servants to Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me.
17:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ אִם ־יוּכַ֞ל לְהִלָּחֵ֤ם אִתִּי֙ וְהִכָּ֔נִי וְהָיִ֥ינוּ לָכֶ֖ם לַעֲבָדִ֑ים וְאִם ־אֲנִ֤י אֽוּכַל ־לוֹ֙ וְהִכִּיתִ֔יו וִהְיִ֤יתֶם לָ֙נוּ֙ לַעֲבָדִ֔ים וַעֲבַדְתֶּ֖ם אֹתָֽנוּ ׃
καὶ ἐὰν δυνηθῇ πρὸς ἐμὲ πολεμῆσαι καὶ ἐὰν πατάξῃ με καὶ ἐσόμεθα ὑμῖν εἰς δούλους ἐὰν δὲ ἐγὼ δυνηθῶ καὶ πατάξω αὐτόν ἔσεσθε ἡμῖν εἰς δούλους καὶ δουλεύσετε ἡμῖν
Si quiverit pugnare mecum , et percusserit me , erimus vobis servi : si autem ego praevaluero , et percussero eum , vos servi eritis , et servietis nobis .
ወለእመ ፡ ክህለ ፡ ተቃትሎትየ ፡ ወቀተለኒ ፡ ንክውነክሙ ፡ አግብርተ ፡ ወእመስ ፡ ክህልክዎ ፡ አነ ፡ ወቀተልክዎ ፡ ትከውኑነ ፡ አግብርተ ፡ ወትትቀነዩ ፡ ለነ ።
If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then will we be your servants; but if I prevail against him and kill him, then you will be our servants and serve us.”
17:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י אֲנִ֗י חֵרַ֛פְתִּי אֶת ־מַעַרְכ֥וֹת יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֑ה תְּנוּ ־לִ֣י אִ֔ישׁ וְנִֽלָּחֲמָ֖ה יָֽחַד ׃
καὶ εἶπεν ὁ ἀλλόφυλος ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ὠνείδισα τὴν παράταξιν Ισραηλ σήμερον ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ταύτῃ δότε μοι ἄνδρα καὶ μονομαχήσομεν ἀμφότεροι
Et aiebat Philisthaeus : Ego exprobravi agminibus Israël hodie : date mihi virum , et ineat mecum singulare certamen .
ወይቤሎሙ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ኢሎፍላዊ ፡ ናሁ ፡ አነ ፡ ተበየርከዎሙ ፡ ለፀባኢተ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ዮም ፡ በዛቲ ፡ ዕለት ፤ ሀቡኒ ፡ ብእሴ ፡ ወንትቃተል ፡ ክልኤነ ፡ በባሕቲትነ ።
The Philistine said, “I defy the armies of Israel today! Give me a man, that we may fight together!”
17:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע שָׁאוּל֙ וְכׇל ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶת ־דִּבְרֵ֥י הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י הָאֵ֑לֶּה וַיֵּחַ֥תּוּ וַיִּֽרְא֖וּ מְאֹֽד ׃ {פ}
καὶ ἤκουσεν Σαουλ καὶ πᾶς Ισραηλ τὰ ῥήματα τοῦ ἀλλοφύλου ταῦτα καὶ ἐξέστησαν καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν σφόδρα
Audiens autem Saul et omnes Israëlitae sermones Philisthaei hujuscemodi , stupebant , et metuebant nimis .
ወሶበ ፡ ሰምዑ ፡ ሳኦል ፡ ወኵሎሙ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ዘንተ ፡ ቃሎ ፡ ለውእቱ ፡ ኢሎፍላዊ ፡ ደንገፁ ፡ ወፈርሁ ፡ ጥቀ ።
When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid.
17:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְדָוִד֩ בֶּן ־אִ֨ישׁ אֶפְרָתִ֜י הַזֶּ֗ה מִבֵּ֥ית לֶ֙חֶם֙ יְהוּדָ֔ה וּשְׁמ֣וֹ יִשַׁ֔י וְל֖וֹ שְׁמֹנָ֣ה בָנִ֑ים וְהָאִישׁ֙ בִּימֵ֣י שָׁא֔וּל זָקֵ֖ן בָּ֥א בַאֲנָשִֽׁים ׃
— David autem erat filius viri Ephrathaei , de quo supra dictum est , de Bethlehem Juda , cui nomen erat Isai , qui habebat octo filios , et erat vir in diebus Saul senex , et grandaevus inter viros .
[ወዳዊት ፡ ወልደ ፡ ብእሲ ፡ ኤፍራታዊ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ እምቤተ ፡ ልሔም ፡ ዘይሁዳ ፡ ዘስሙ ፡ እሴይ ፡ ወቦ ፡ ሰመንቱ ፡ ደቂቅ ፡ ወብእሲሰ ፡ እሴይ ፡ በመዋዕሊሁ ፡ ለሳኦል ፡ ልህቀ ፡ ጥቀ ።
Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem Judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons. The man was an elderly old man in the days of Saul.
17:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֵּ֨לְכ֜וּ שְׁלֹ֤שֶׁת בְּנֵֽי ־יִשַׁי֙ הַגְּדֹלִ֔ים הָלְכ֥וּ אַחֲרֵֽי ־שָׁא֖וּל לַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה וְשֵׁ֣ם ׀ שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת בָּנָ֗יו אֲשֶׁ֤ר הָֽלְכוּ֙ בַּמִּלְחָמָ֔ה אֱלִיאָ֣ב הַבְּכ֗וֹר וּמִשְׁנֵ֙הוּ֙ אֲבִ֣ינָדָ֔ב וְהַשְּׁלִשִׁ֖י שַׁמָּֽה ׃
— Abierunt autem tres filii ejus majores post Saul in praelium : et nomina trium filiorum ejus qui perrexerunt ad bellum , Eliab primogenitus , et secundus Abinadab , tertiusque Samma .
ወሖሩ ፡ ሠለስቱ ፡ ደቂቀ ፡ እሴይ ፡ እለ ፡ የዐብዩ ፡ ወተለዉ ፡ ድኅረ ፡ ሳኦል ፡ ለፀብእ ፡ ወአስማቲሆሙ ፡ ለ፫ደቂቁ ፡ እለ ፡ ሖሩ ፡ ለፀብእ ፡ ኤልያብ ፡ በኵሩ ፡ ወዳግሙ ፡ አሚናዳብ ፡ ወሣልሱ ፡ ሤማይ ።
The three oldest sons of Jesse had gone after Saul to the battle; and the names of his three sons who went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, and next to him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.
17:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְדָוִ֖ד ה֣וּא הַקָּטָ֑ן וּשְׁלֹשָׁה֙ הַגְּדֹלִ֔ים הָלְכ֖וּ אַחֲרֵ֥י שָׁאֽוּל ׃ {ס}
— David autem erat minimus . Tribus ergo majoribus secutis Saulem ,
ወዳዊት ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ዘይንእስ ።
David was the youngest; and the three oldest followed Saul.
17:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְדָוִ֛ד הֹלֵ֥ךְ וָשָׁ֖ב מֵעַ֣ל שָׁא֑וּל לִרְע֛וֹת אֶת ־צֹ֥אן אָבִ֖יו בֵּ֥ית לָֽחֶם ׃
— abiit David , et reversus est a Saul ut pasceret gregem patris sui in Bethlehem .
ወተመይጠ ፡ እምኀበ ፡ ሳኦል ፡ ወሖረ ፡ ይርዐይ ፡ አባግዐ ፡ አቡሁ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ቤተ ፡ ልሔም ።
Now David went back and forth from Saul to feed his father’s sheep at Bethlehem.
17:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּגַּ֥שׁ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י הַשְׁכֵּ֣ם וְהַעֲרֵ֑ב וַיִּתְיַצֵּ֖ב אַרְבָּעִ֥ים יֽוֹם ׃ {פ}
— Procedebat vero Philisthaeus mane et vespere , et stabat quadraginta diebus .
ወይመጽእ ፡ ኢሎፍላዊ ፡ ነግሀ ፡ ወስርከ ፡ ወይቀውም ፡ አርብዓ ፡ ዕለተ ።
The Philistine came near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
17:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יִשַׁ֜י לְדָוִ֣ד בְּנ֗וֹ קַח ־נָ֤א לְאַחֶ֙יךָ֙ אֵיפַ֤ת הַקָּלִיא֙ הַזֶּ֔ה וַעֲשָׂרָ֥ה לֶ֖חֶם הַזֶּ֑ה וְהָרֵ֥ץ הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֖ה לְאַחֶֽיךָ ׃
— Dixit autem Isai ad David filium suum : Accipe fratribus tuis ephi polentae , et decem panes istos , et curre in castra ad fratres tuos ,
ወይቤሎ ፡ እሴይ ፡ ለዳዊት ፡ ወልዱ ፡ ንሣእ ፡ ለአኀዊከ ፡ ዘንተ ፡ መስፈርተ ፡ ጥሕን ፡ ወዐሠርተ ፡ ኅብስተ ፡ ወሩጽ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ትዕይንት ፡ ለአኀዊከ ።
Jesse said to David his son, “Now take for your brothers an ephah of this parched grain and these ten loaves, and carry them quickly to the camp to your brothers;
17:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְ֠אֵ֠ת עֲשֶׂ֜רֶת חֲרִצֵ֤י הֶחָלָב֙ הָאֵ֔לֶּה תָּבִ֖יא לְשַׂר ־הָאָ֑לֶף וְאֶת ־אַחֶ֙יךָ֙ תִּפְקֹ֣ד לְשָׁל֔וֹם וְאֶת ־עֲרֻבָּתָ֖ם תִּקָּֽח ׃
— et decem formellas casei has deferes ad tribunum : et fratres tuos visitabis , si recte agant : et cum quibus ordinati sunt , disce .
ወ፲ሐሪፀ ፡ ሐሊብ ፡ እሎንተ ፡ አብእ ፡ ለመልአከ ፡ ዐሠርቱ ፡ ምእት ፡ ወአኀዊከ ፡ ሐውጽ ፡ ለሰላም ፡ ወዜናሆሙ ፡ ንሣእ ።
and bring these ten cheeses to the captain of their thousand; and see how your brothers are doing, and bring back news.”
17:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְשָׁא֤וּל וְהֵ֙מָּה֙ וְכׇל ־אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בְּעֵ֖מֶק הָאֵלָ֑ה נִלְחָמִ֖ים עִם ־פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים ׃ {ס}
— Saul autem , et illi , et omnes filii Israël , in Valle terebinthi pugnabant adversum Philisthiim .
ወሳኦል ፡ ወኵሉ ፡ ሰብአ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ይትቃተሉ ፡ በቈላተ ፡ ኤላ ፡ ምስለ ፡ ኢሎፍሊ ።
Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
17:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֨ם דָּוִ֜ד בַּבֹּ֗קֶר וַיִּטֹּ֤שׁ אֶת ־הַצֹּאן֙ עַל ־שֹׁמֵ֔ר וַיִּשָּׂ֣א וַיֵּ֔לֶךְ כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוָּ֖הוּ יִשָׁ֑י וַיָּבֹא֙ הַמַּעְגָּ֔לָה וְהַחַ֗יִל הַיֹּצֵא֙ אֶל ־הַמַּ֣עֲרָכָ֔ה וְהֵרֵ֖עוּ בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה ׃
— Surrexit itaque David mane , et commendavit gregem custodi : et onustus abiit , sicut praeceperat ei Isai . Et venit ad locum Magala , et ad exercitum , qui egressus ad pugnam vociferatus erat in certamine .
ወጌሠ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ በጽባሕ ፡ ወኀደገ ፡ አባግዐ ፡ ኀበ ፡ የዐቅብ ፡ ወነሥአ ፡ ወሖረ ፡ ኀበ ፡ አዘዘ ፡ እሴይ ፡ ወበጽሐ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ማኤጌላኅ ፡ ወኀይል ፡ ይወፅእ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ፀብእ ፡ ወያስተርእዩ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ፀብእ ።
David rose up early in the morning and left the sheep with a keeper, and took the provisions and went, as Jesse had commanded him. He came to the place of the wagons as the army which was going out to the fight shouted for the battle.
17:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַתַּעֲרֹ֤ךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וּפְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים מַעֲרָכָ֖ה לִקְרַ֥את מַעֲרָכָֽה ׃
— Direxerat enim aciem Israël , sed et Philisthiim ex adverso fuerant praeparati .
ወፀባኢተ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ወኢሎፍሊ ፡ ርሱያን ፡ ለተቀብሎ ፡ መስተቃትላን ።
Israel and the Philistines put the battle in array, army against army.
17:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּטֹּשׁ֩ דָּוִ֨ד אֶת ־הַכֵּלִ֜ים מֵעָלָ֗יו עַל ־יַד֙ שׁוֹמֵ֣ר הַכֵּלִ֔ים וַיָּ֖רׇץ הַמַּעֲרָכָ֑ה וַיָּבֹ֕א וַיִּשְׁאַ֥ל לְאֶחָ֖יו לְשָׁלֽוֹם ׃
— Derelinquens ergo David vasa quae attulerat sub manu custodis ad sarcinas , cucurrit ad locum certaminis , et interrogabat si omnia recte agerentur erga fratres suos .
ወኀደገ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ ንዋያተ ፡ እምላዕሌሁ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ዘየዐትብ ፡ ንዋያተ ፡ ወሮጸ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ይትቃተሉ ፡ ወበጽሐ ፡ ወተስእሎሙ ፡ ለአኀዊሁ ፡ በእንተ ፡ ሰላም ።
David left his baggage in the hand of the keeper of the baggage and ran to the army, and came and greeted his brothers.
17:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְה֣וּא ׀ מְדַבֵּ֣ר עִמָּ֗ם וְהִנֵּ֣ה אִ֣ישׁ הַבֵּנַ֡יִם עוֹלֶ֞ה גׇּלְיָת֩ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֨י שְׁמ֤וֹ מִגַּת֙ (ממערות ) [מִמַּעַרְכ֣וֹת ] פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וַיְדַבֵּ֖ר כַּדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֑לֶּה וַיִּשְׁמַ֖ע דָּוִֽד ׃
— Cumque adhuc ille loqueretur eis , apparuit vir ille spurius ascendens , Goliath nomine , Philisthaeus de Geth , de castris Philisthinorum : et loquente eo haec eadem verba audivit David .
ወእንዘ ፡ ይትናገር ፡ ምስሌሆሙ ፡ ወናሁ ፡ ያርብሓዊ ፡ የዐርግ ፡ ዘስሙ ፡ ጎልያድ ፡ ኢሎፍላዊ ፡ ዘእምጌት ፡ እምፀባኢተ ፡ ኢሎፍሊ ፡ ወተናገረ ፡ እሎንተ ፡ ነገራት ፡ ወሰምዐ ፡ ዳዊት ።
As he talked with them, behold, the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, came up out of the ranks of the Philistines, and said the same words; and David heard them.
17:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְכֹל֙ אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בִּרְאוֹתָ֖ם אֶת ־הָאִ֑ישׁ וַיָּנֻ֙סוּ֙ מִפָּנָ֔יו וַיִּֽירְא֖וּ מְאֹֽד ׃
— Omnes autem Israëlitae , cum vidissent virum , fugerunt a facie ejus , timentes eum valde .
ወኵሉ ፡ ሰብአ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ሶበ ፡ ርእይዎ ፡ ለብእሲ ፡ ጐዩ ፡ እምቅድመ ፡ ገጹ ፡ ወፈርሁ ፡ ጥቀ ።
All the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him and were terrified.
17:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ׀ אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל הַרְּאִיתֶם֙ הָאִ֤ישׁ הָֽעֹלֶה֙ הַזֶּ֔ה כִּ֛י לְחָרֵ֥ף אֶת ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עֹלֶ֑ה וְֽ֠הָיָ֠ה הָאִ֨ישׁ אֲשֶׁר ־יַכֶּ֜נּוּ יַעְשְׁרֶ֥נּוּ הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ ׀ עֹ֣שֶׁר גָּד֗וֹל וְאֶת ־בִּתּוֹ֙ יִתֶּן ־ל֔וֹ וְאֵת֙ בֵּ֣ית אָבִ֔יו יַעֲשֶׂ֥ה חׇפְשִׁ֖י בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל ׃ {פ}
— Et dixit unus quispiam de Israël : Num vidistis virum hunc , qui ascendit ? ad exprobrandum enim Israëli ascendit . Virum ergo qui percusserit eum , ditabit rex divitiis magnis , et filiam suam dabit ei , et domum patris ejus faciet absque tributo in Israël .
ወይቤሉ ፡ ሰብአ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ርኢክሙኑ ፡ ዘንተ ፡ ብእሴ ፡ ዘዐርገ ፡ እስመ ፡ ከመ ፡ ይትዐየር ፡ ላዕለ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ዐርገ ፡ ወይከውን ፡ ብእሲ ፡ ዘይቀትሎ ፡ ያብዕሎ ፡ ንጉሥ ፡ ብዕለ ፡ ዐቢየ ፡ ወወለቶ ፡ ይሁቦ ፡ ሎቱ ፡ ወለቤተ ፡ አቡሁ ፡ ይሬስዮሙ ፡ ግዑዛነ ፡ ውስተ ፡ እስራኤል ።
The men of Israel said, “Have you seen this man who has come up? He has surely come up to defy Israel. The king will give great riches to the man who kills him, and will give him his daughter, and will make his father’s house tax-free in Israel.”
17:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֗ד אֶֽל ־הָאֲנָשִׁ֞ים הָעֹמְדִ֣ים עִמּוֹ֮ לֵאמֹר֒ מַה ־יֵּעָשֶׂ֗ה לָאִישׁ֙ אֲשֶׁ֤ר יַכֶּה֙ אֶת ־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֣י הַלָּ֔ז וְהֵסִ֥יר חֶרְפָּ֖ה מֵעַ֣ל יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כִּ֣י מִ֗י הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֤י הֶעָרֵל֙ הַזֶּ֔ה כִּ֣י חֵרֵ֔ף מַעַרְכ֖וֹת אֱלֹהִ֥ים חַיִּֽים ׃
— Et ait David ad viros qui stabant secum , dicens : Quid dabitur viro qui percusserit Philisthaeum hunc , et tulerit opprobrium de Israël ? quis enim est hic Philisthaeus incircumcisus , qui exprobravit acies Dei viventis ?
ወይቤሎሙ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ ለዕደው ፡ እለ ፡ ይቀውሙ ፡ ምስሌሁ ፡ ወይቤ ፡ ምንተ ፡ ይሬሲ ፡ ለብእሲ ፡ ዘይቀትሎ ፡ ለኢሎፍላዊ ፡ ወያሴስል ፡ ፅእለት ፡ እምእስራኤል ፡ ወምንት ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ ኢሎፍላዊ ፡ ቈላፍ ፡ ከመ ፡ ይትዐየር ፡ ፀባኢተ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ሕያው ።
David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, “What shall be done to the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
17:27 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לוֹ֙ הָעָ֔ם כַּדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּ֖ה לֵאמֹ֑ר כֹּ֣ה יֵעָשֶׂ֔ה לָאִ֖ישׁ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יַכֶּֽנּוּ ׃
— Referebat autem ei populus eumdem sermonem , dicens : Haec dabuntur viro qui percusserit eum .
ወተናገርዎ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ ዘንተ ፡ ቃለ ፡ እንዘ ፡ ይብሉ ፡ ከመዝ ፡ ይገብር ፡ ለብእሲ ፡ ዘይቀትሎ ።
The people answered him in this way, saying, “So shall it be done to the man who kills him.”
17:28 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע אֱלִיאָב֙ אָחִ֣יו הַגָּד֔וֹל בְּדַבְּר֖וֹ אֶל ־הָאֲנָשִׁ֑ים וַיִּֽחַר ־אַף֩ אֱלִיאָ֨ב בְּדָוִ֜ד וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ׀ לָמָּה ־זֶּ֣ה יָרַ֗דְתָּ וְעַל ־מִ֨י נָטַ֜שְׁתָּ מְעַ֨ט הַצֹּ֤אן הָהֵ֙נָּה֙ בַּמִּדְבָּ֔ר אֲנִ֧י יָדַ֣עְתִּי אֶת ־זְדֹנְךָ֗ וְאֵת֙ רֹ֣עַ לְבָבֶ֔ךָ כִּ֗י לְמַ֛עַן רְא֥וֹת הַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה יָרָֽדְתָּ ׃
— Quod cum audisset Eliab frater ejus major , loquente eo cum aliis , iratus est contra David , et ait : Quare venisti , et quare dereliquisti pauculas oves illas in deserto ? Ego novi superbiam tuam , et nequitiam cordis tui : quia ut videres praelium , descendisti .
ወሰምዐ ፡ ኤልያብ ፡ እኁሁ ፡ ዘየዐቢ ፡ ዘይትናገሮሙ ፡ ለዕደው ፡ ወተምዐ ፡ ላዕለ ፡ ጻዊት ፡ ወይቤ ፡ ለምንት ፡ ዘወረድከ ፡ ወኀበ ፡ መኑ ፡ ኀደገ ፡ ኅዳጣነ ፡ አባግዐ ፡ ወነዮሙ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ገዳም ፤ አነ ፡ ኣአምር ፡ ትዝኅርተከ ፡ ወእከየ ፡ ልብከ ፡ ከመ ፡ ትርአይ ፡ ፀብአ ፡ ዘወረድከ ።
Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger burned against David, and he said, “Why have you come down? With whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the evil of your heart; for you have come down that you might see the battle.”
17:29 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֔ד מֶ֥ה עָשִׂ֖יתִי עָ֑תָּה הֲל֖וֹא דָּבָ֥ר הֽוּא ׃
— Et dixit David : Quid feci ? numquid non verbum est ?
ወይቤ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ ምንተ ፡ ገበርኩ ፡ ይእዜ ፤ አኮኑ ፡ ነገር ፡ ውእቱ ።
David said, “What have I now done? Is there not a cause?”
17:30 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּסֹּ֤ב מֵֽאֶצְלוֹ֙ אֶל ־מ֣וּל אַחֵ֔ר וַיֹּ֖אמֶר כַּדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֑ה וַיְשִׁבֻ֤הוּ הָעָם֙ דָּבָ֔ר כַּדָּבָ֖ר הָרִאשֽׁוֹן ׃
— Et declinavit paululum ab eo ad alium : dixitque eumdem sermonem . Et respondit ei populus verbum sicut prius .
ወተመይጠ ፡ እምኀቤሁ ፡ መንገለ ፡ ካልእ ፡ ወይቤ ፡ ዘንተ ፡ ነገረ ፡ ወሜጠ ፡ ሎቱ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ ከመ ፡ ቀዳሚ ፡ ቃል ።
He turned away from him toward another, and spoke like that again; and the people answered him again the same way.
17:31 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּשָּֽׁמְעוּ֙ הַדְּבָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּ֣ר דָּוִ֑ד וַיַּגִּ֥דוּ לִפְנֵֽי ־שָׁא֖וּל וַיִּקָּחֵֽהוּ ׃
— Audita sunt autem verba quae locutus est David , et annuntiata in conspectu Saul .
ወሰምዑ ፡ ነገረ ፡ ዘይቤ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ ወነገሩ ፡ ቅድመ ፡ ሳኦል ፡ ወነሥኦ ።]
When the words were heard which David spoke, they rehearsed them before Saul; and he sent for him.
17:32 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר דָּוִד֙ אֶל ־שָׁא֔וּל אַל ־יִפֹּ֥ל לֵב ־אָדָ֖ם עָלָ֑יו עַבְדְּךָ֣ יֵלֵ֔ךְ וְנִלְחַ֖ם עִם ־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֥י הַזֶּֽה ׃
καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ πρὸς Σαουλ μὴ δὴ συμπεσέτω ἡ καρδία τοῦ κυρίου μου ἐπ’ αὐτόν ὁ δοῦλός σου πορεύσεται καὶ πολεμήσει μετὰ τοῦ ἀλλοφύλου τούτου
Ad quem cum fuisset adductus , locutus est ei : Non concidat cor cujusquam in eo : ego servus tuus vadam , et pugnabo adversus Philisthaeum .
ወይቤሎ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ ለሳኦል ፡ ኢይደቅ ፡ ልቡ ፡ ለእግዚእየ ፤ ገብርከ ፡ የሐውር ፡ ላዕሌሁ ፡ ወይትቃተል ፡ ምስሌሁ ፡ ለዝንቱ ፡ ኢሎፍላዊ ።
David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”
17:33 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר שָׁא֜וּל אֶל ־דָּוִ֗ד לֹ֤א תוּכַל֙ לָלֶ֙כֶת֙ אֶל ־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֣י הַזֶּ֔ה לְהִלָּחֵ֖ם עִמּ֑וֹ כִּֽי ־נַ֣עַר אַ֔תָּה וְה֛וּא אִ֥ישׁ מִלְחָמָ֖ה מִנְּעֻרָֽיו ׃ {ס}
καὶ εἶπεν Σαουλ πρὸς Δαυιδ οὐ μὴ δυνήσῃ πορευθῆναι πρὸς τὸν ἀλλόφυλον τοῦ πολεμεῖν μετ’ αὐτοῦ ὅτι παιδάριον εἶ σύ καὶ αὐτὸς ἀνὴρ πολεμιστὴς ἐκ νεότητος αὐτοῦ
Et ait Saul ad David : Non vales resistere Philisthaeo isti , nec pugnare adversus eum , quia puer es : hic autem vir bellator est ab adolescentia sua .
ወይቤሎ ፡ ሳኦል ፡ ለዳዊት ፡ ኢትክል ፡ ሐዊረ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ ኢሎፍላዊ ፡ ከመ ፡ ትትቃተል ፡ ምስሌሁ ፡ እስመ ፡ ሕፃን ፡ አንተ ፡ ወውእቱሰ ፡ ብእሲ ፡ መስተቃትል ፡ እምንእሱ ።
Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.”
17:34 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר דָּוִד֙ אֶל ־שָׁא֔וּל רֹעֶ֨ה הָיָ֧ה עַבְדְּךָ֛ לְאָבִ֖יו בַּצֹּ֑אן וּבָ֤א הָאֲרִי֙ וְאֶת ־הַדּ֔וֹב וְנָשָׂ֥א שֶׂ֖ה מֵהָעֵֽדֶר ׃
καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ πρὸς Σαουλ ποιμαίνων ἦν ὁ δοῦλός σου τῷ πατρὶ αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ ποιμνίῳ καὶ ὅταν ἤρχετο ὁ λέων καὶ ἡ ἄρκος καὶ ἐλάμβανεν πρόβατον ἐκ τῆς ἀγέλης
Dixitque David ad Saul : Pascebat servus tuus patris sui gregem , et veniebat leo vel ursus , et tollebat arietem de medio gregis :
ወይቤሎ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ ለሳኦል ፡ ይርዒ ፡ ሀሎ ፡ ገብርከ ፡ ለአቡሁ ፡ ውስተ ፡ መራዕዪሁ ፤ ሶበ ፡ ይመጽእ ፡ አንበሳ ፡ ወእመኒ ፡ ድብ ፡ ወይነሥእ ፡ በግዐ ፡ እምውስተ ፡ መራዕይ ፤
David said to Saul, “Your servant was keeping his father’s sheep; and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock,
17:35 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְיָצָ֧אתִי אַחֲרָ֛יו וְהִכִּתִ֖יו וְהִצַּ֣לְתִּי מִפִּ֑יו וַיָּ֣קׇם עָלַ֔י וְהֶחֱזַ֙קְתִּי֙ בִּזְקָנ֔וֹ וְהִכִּתִ֖יו וַהֲמִיתִּֽיו ׃
καὶ ἐξεπορευόμην ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπάταξα αὐτὸν καὶ ἐξέσπασα ἐκ τοῦ στόματος αὐτοῦ καὶ εἰ ἐπανίστατο ἐπ’ ἐμέ καὶ ἐκράτησα τοῦ φάρυγγος αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπάταξα καὶ ἐθανάτωσα αὐτόν
et persequebar eos , et percutiebam , eruebamque de ore eorum : et illi consurgebant adversum me , et apprehendebam mentum eorum , et suffocabam , interficiebamque eos .
እዴግኖ ፡ ወእቀትሎ ፡ ወአነግፎ ፡ እምውስተ ፡ አፉሁ ፡ ወእመኒ ፡ ተንሥአ ፡ ላዕሌየ ፡ አእኅዞ ፡ ጕርዔሁ ፡ ወአኀንቆ ፡ ወእቀትሎ ።
I went out after him, struck him, and rescued it out of his mouth. When he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, struck him, and killed him.
17:36 ⧉ ⤴︎ גַּ֧ם אֶֽת ־הָאֲרִ֛י גַּם ־הַדֹּ֖ב הִכָּ֣ה עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ וְֽ֠הָיָ֠ה הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֨י הֶעָרֵ֤ל הַזֶּה֙ כְּאַחַ֣ד מֵהֶ֔ם כִּ֣י חֵרֵ֔ף מַעַרְכֹ֖ת אֱלֹהִ֥ים חַיִּֽים ׃ {ס}
καὶ τὴν ἄρκον ἔτυπτεν ὁ δοῦλός σου καὶ τὸν λέοντα καὶ ἔσται ὁ ἀλλόφυλος ὁ ἀπερίτμητος ὡς ἓν τούτων οὐχὶ πορεύσομαι καὶ πατάξω αὐτὸν καὶ ἀφελῶ σήμερον ὄνειδος ἐξ Ισραηλ διότι τίς ὁ ἀπερίτμητος οὗτος ὃς ὠνείδισεν παράταξιν θεοῦ ζῶντος
Nam et leonem et ursum interfeci ego servus tuus : erit igitur et Philisthaeus hic incircumcisus quasi unus ex eis . Nunc vadam , et auferam opprobrium populi : quoniam quis est iste Philisthaeus incircumcisus , qui ausus est maledicere exercitui Dei viventis ?
ወከማሁ ፡ እገብሮ ፡ እመሂ ፡ አንበሳ ፡ ወእመሂ ፡ ድብ ፡ አነ ፡ ገብርከ ፡ ወዝንቱኒ ፡ ኢሎፍላዊ ፡ ቈላፍ ፡ ከማሁ ፡ ክመ ፡ ውእቱኒ ፡ ከመ ፡ ፩እምእሉ ፤ ኢየሐውርኑ ፡ እንከ ፡ ወእቀትሎ ፡ ወኣሴስል ፡ ዮም ፡ ትዕይርተ ፡ እምእስራኤል ፤ ምንት ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ ቈላፍ ፡ ከመ ፡ ይትዐየር ፡ ጸባኢተ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ዘሕያው ።
Your servant struck both the lion and the bear. This uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, since he has defied the armies of the living God.”
17:37 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּאמֶר֮ דָּוִד֒ יְהֹוָ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר הִצִּלַ֜נִי מִיַּ֤ד הָֽאֲרִי֙ וּמִיַּ֣ד הַדֹּ֔ב ה֣וּא יַצִּילֵ֔נִי מִיַּ֥ד הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י הַזֶּ֑ה {ס} וַיֹּ֨אמֶר שָׁא֤וּל אֶל ־דָּוִד֙ לֵ֔ךְ וַיהֹוָ֖ה יִהְיֶ֥ה עִמָּֽךְ ׃
κύριος ὃς ἐξείλατό με ἐκ χειρὸς τοῦ λέοντος καὶ ἐκ χειρὸς τῆς ἄρκου αὐτὸς ἐξελεῖταί με ἐκ χειρὸς τοῦ ἀλλοφύλου τοῦ ἀπεριτμήτου τούτου καὶ εἶπεν Σαουλ πρὸς Δαυιδ πορεύου καὶ ἔσται κύριος μετὰ σοῦ
Et ait David : Dominus qui eripuit me de manu leonis , et de manu ursi , ipse me liberabit de manu Philisthaei hujus . Dixit autem Saul ad David : Vade , et Dominus tecum sit .
ውእቱ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ዘአድኀነኒ ፡ እምእደ ፡ አንበሳ ፡ ወእምነ ፡ እደ ፡ ድብ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ያድኅነኒ ፡ እምነ ፡ እዴሁ ፡ ለዝንቱ ፡ ኢሎፍላዊ ፡ ቈላፍ ፤ ወይቤሎ ፡ ሳኦል ፡ ለዳዊት ፡ ሖር ፡ ወእግዚአብሔር ፡ ምስሌከ ።
David said, “Yahweh, who delivered me out of the paw of the lion and out of the paw of the bear, will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go! Yahweh will be with you.”
17:38 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיַּלְבֵּ֨שׁ שָׁא֤וּל אֶת ־דָּוִד֙ מַדָּ֔יו וְנָתַ֛ן ק֥וֹבַע נְחֹ֖שֶׁת עַל ־רֹאשׁ֑וֹ וַיַּלְבֵּ֥שׁ אֹת֖וֹ שִׁרְיֽוֹן ׃
καὶ ἐνέδυσεν Σαουλ τὸν Δαυιδ μανδύαν καὶ περικεφαλαίαν χαλκῆν περὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ
Et induit Saul David vestimentis suis , et imposuit galeam aeream super caput ejus , et vestivit eum lorica .
ወአልበሶ ፡ ሳኦል ፡ ለዳዊት ፡ ልብሰ ፡ ሐፂን ፡ ወጌራ ፡ ዘብርት ፡ ውስተ ፡ ርእሱ ፡ ወደየ ፡ ሎቱ ።
Saul dressed David with his clothing. He put a helmet of bronze on his head, and he clad him with a coat of mail.
17:39 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיַּחְגֹּ֣ר דָּוִ֣ד אֶת ־חַ֠רְבּ֠וֹ מֵעַ֨ל לְמַדָּ֜יו וַיֹּ֣אֶל לָלֶכֶת֮ כִּ֣י לֹֽא ־נִסָּה֒ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר דָּוִ֜ד אֶל ־שָׁא֗וּל לֹ֥א אוּכַ֛ל לָלֶ֥כֶת בָּאֵ֖לֶּה כִּ֣י לֹ֣א נִסִּ֑יתִי וַיְסִרֵ֥ם דָּוִ֖ד מֵעָלָֽיו ׃
καὶ ἔζωσεν τὸν Δαυιδ τὴν ῥομφαίαν αὐτοῦ ἐπάνω τοῦ μανδύου αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐκοπίασεν περιπατήσας ἅπαξ καὶ δίς καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ πρὸς Σαουλ οὐ μὴ δύνωμαι πορευθῆναι ἐν τούτοις ὅτι οὐ πεπείραμαι καὶ ἀφαιροῦσιν αὐτὰ ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ
Accinctus ergo David gladio ejus super vestem suam , coepit tentare si armatus posset incedere : non enim habebat consuetudinem . Dixitque David ad Saul : Non possum sic incedere , quia non usum habeo . Et deposuit ea ,
ወአትነቶ ፡ መልዕልተ ፡ ልብሱ ፡ ሰይፈ ፤ ወሶበ ፡ ሰገረ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ ምዕረ ፡ ወካዕበ ፡ ደክመ ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ ለሳኦል ፡ ኢይክል ፡ ሐዊረ ፡ በዝንቱ ፡ እስመ ፡ ኢኮንኩ ፡ ልሙደ ፡ ወአሰሰለ ፡ እምላዕሌሁ ።
David strapped his sword on his clothing and he tried to move, for he had not tested it. David said to Saul, “I can’t go with these, for I have not tested them.” Then David took them off.
17:40 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּקַּ֨ח מַקְל֜וֹ בְּיָד֗וֹ וַיִּבְחַר ־ל֣וֹ חֲמִשָּׁ֣ה חַלֻּקֵֽי ־אֲבָנִ֣ים ׀מִן ־הַנַּ֡חַל וַיָּ֣שֶׂם אֹ֠תָ֠ם בִּכְלִ֨י הָרֹעִ֧ים אֲשֶׁר ־ל֛וֹ וּבַיַּלְק֖וּט וְקַלְע֣וֹ בְיָד֑וֹ וַיִּגַּ֖שׁ אֶל ־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּֽי ׃
καὶ ἔλαβεν τὴν βακτηρίαν αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ χειρὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐξελέξατο ἑαυτῷ πέντε λίθους λείους ἐκ τοῦ χειμάρρου καὶ ἔθετο αὐτοὺς ἐν τῷ καδίῳ τῷ ποιμενικῷ τῷ ὄντι αὐτῷ εἰς συλλογὴν καὶ σφενδόνην αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ χειρὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ προσῆλθεν πρὸς τὸν ἄνδρα τὸν ἀλλόφυλον
et tulit baculum suum , quem semper habebat in manibus : et elegit sibi quinque limpidissimos lapides de torrente , et misit eos in peram pastoralem quam habebat secum , et fundam manu tulit : et processit adversum Philisthaeum .
ወነሥአ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ ቀስታሞ ፡ ውስተ ፡ እዴሁ ፡ ወኀረየ ፡ ሎቱ ፡ ኀምስተ ፡ አእበነ ፡ እምውስተ ፡ ፈለግ ፡ ወወደየ ፡ ውስተ ፡ መምጠቂሁ ፡ እንተ ፡ ሶበ ፡ ይርዒ ፡ አባግዐ ፡ ወሞጸፈ ፡ ውስተ ፡ እዴሁ ፡ ወሖረ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ብእሲ ፡ ኢሎፍላዊ ።
He took his staff in his hand, and chose for himself five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag which he had. His sling was in his hand; and he came near to the Philistine.
17:41 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֵּ֙לֶךְ֙ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י הֹלֵ֥ךְ וְקָרֵ֖ב אֶל ־דָּוִ֑ד וְהָאִ֛ישׁ נֹשֵׂ֥א הַצִּנָּ֖ה לְפָנָֽיו ׃
— Ibat autem Philisthaeus incedens , et appropinquans adversum David , et armiger ejus ante eum .
— The Philistine walked and came near to David; and the man who bore the shield went before him.
17:42 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיַּבֵּ֧ט הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֛י וַיִּרְאֶ֥ה אֶת ־דָּוִ֖ד וַיִּבְזֵ֑הוּ כִּֽי ־הָיָ֣ה נַ֔עַר וְאַדְמֹנִ֖י עִם ־יְפֵ֥ה מַרְאֶֽה ׃
καὶ εἶδεν Γολιαδ τὸν Δαυιδ καὶ ἠτίμασεν αὐτόν ὅτι αὐτὸς ἦν παιδάριον καὶ αὐτὸς πυρράκης μετὰ κάλλους ὀφθαλμῶν
Cumque inspexisset Philisthaeus , et vidisset David , despexit eum . Erat enim adolescens , rufus , et pulcher aspectu .
ወሶበ ፡ ርእዮ ፡ ጎልያድ ፡ ለዳዊት ፡ አስተሐቀሮ ፡ እስመ ፡ ሕፃን ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ወቀይሕ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ወሠናይ ፡ አዕይንቲሁ ።
When the Philistine looked around and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and had a good looking face.
17:43 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר הַפְּלִשְׁתִּי֙ אֶל ־דָּוִ֔ד הֲכֶ֣לֶב אָנֹ֔כִי כִּֽי ־אַתָּ֥ה בָֽא ־אֵלַ֖י בַּמַּקְל֑וֹת וַיְקַלֵּ֧ל הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֛י אֶת ־דָּוִ֖ד בֵּאלֹהָֽיו ׃
καὶ εἶπεν ὁ ἀλλόφυλος πρὸς Δαυιδ ὡσεὶ κύων ἐγώ εἰμι ὅτι σὺ ἔρχῃ ἐπ’ ἐμὲ ἐν ῥάβδῳ καὶ λίθοις καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ οὐχί ἀλλ’ ἢ χείρω κυνός καὶ κατηράσατο ὁ ἀλλόφυλος τὸν Δαυιδ ἐν τοῖς θεοῖς αὐτοῦ
Et dixit Philisthaeus ad David : Numquid ego canis sum , quod tu venis ad me cum baculo ? Et maledixit Philisthaeus David in diis suis :
ወይቤሎ ፡ ዝክቱ ፡ ኢሎፍላዊ ፡ ለዳዊት ፡ ከመ ፡ ከልብኑ ፡ አነ ፡ ከመ ፡ ትምጻእ ፡ ላዕሌየ ፡ በበትር ፡ ወበእብን ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ አልቦ ፤ ተአኪ ፡ እምነ ፡ ከልብ ፡ ወረገሞ ፡ ዝክቱ ፡ ኢሎፍላዊ ፡ ለዳዊት ፡ በአማልክቲሁ ።
The Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” The Philistine cursed David by his gods.
17:44 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י אֶל ־דָּוִ֑ד לְכָ֣ה אֵלַ֔י וְאֶתְּנָה֙ אֶת ־בְּשָׂ֣רְךָ֔ לְע֥וֹף הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם וּלְבֶהֱמַ֥ת הַשָּׂדֶֽה ׃ {ס}
καὶ εἶπεν ὁ ἀλλόφυλος πρὸς Δαυιδ δεῦρο πρός με καὶ δώσω τὰς σάρκας σου τοῖς πετεινοῖς τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ τοῖς κτήνεσιν τῆς γῆς
dixitque ad David : Veni ad me , et dabo carnes tuas volatilibus caeli et bestiis terrae .
ወይቤሎ ፡ ዝክቱ ፡ ኢሎፍላዊ ፡ ለዳዊት ፡ ነዓ ፡ ኀቤየ ፡ ወእሁብ ፡ ሥጋከ ፡ ለአዕዋፈ ፡ ሰማይ ፡ ወለአራዊተ ፡ ምድር ።
The Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the sky and to the animals of the field.”
17:45 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר דָּוִד֙ אֶל ־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י אַתָּה֙ בָּ֣א אֵלַ֔י בְּחֶ֖רֶב וּבַחֲנִ֣ית וּבְכִיד֑וֹן וְאָנֹכִ֣י בָֽא ־אֵלֶ֗יךָ בְּשֵׁם֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת אֱלֹהֵ֛י מַעַרְכ֥וֹת יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר חֵרַֽפְתָּ ׃
καὶ εἰπεν Δαυιδ πρὸς τὸν ἀλλόφυλον σὺ ἔρχῃ πρός με ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ καὶ ἐν δόρατι καὶ ἐν ἀσπίδι κἀγὼ πορεύομαι πρὸς σὲ ἐν ὀνόματι κυρίου σαβαωθ θεοῦ παρατάξεως Ισραηλ ἣν ὠνείδισας σήμερον
Dixit autem David ad Philisthaeum : Tu venis ad me cum gladio , et hasta , et clypeo : ego autem venio ad te in nomine Domini exercituum , Dei agminum Israël quibus exprobrasti
ወይቤሎ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ ለኢሎፍላዊ ፡ አንተሰ ፡ ትመጽእ ፡ ኀቤየ ፡ በሰይፍ ፡ ወበኲናት ፡ ወአነ ፡ እመጽእ ፡ ኀቤከ ፡ በስሙ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ፡ ጸባኦት ፡ ፀባኢተ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ዘተዐየርከ ፡ ዮም ።
Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin; but I come to you in the name of Yahweh of Armies, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
17:46 ⧉ ⤴︎ הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֡ה יְסַגֶּרְךָ֩ יְהֹוָ֨ה בְּיָדִ֜י וְהִכִּיתִ֗ךָ וַהֲסִרֹתִ֤י אֶת ־רֹֽאשְׁךָ֙ מֵעָלֶ֔יךָ וְנָ֨תַתִּ֜י פֶּ֣גֶר מַחֲנֵ֤ה פְלִשְׁתִּים֙ הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה לְע֥וֹף הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם וּלְחַיַּ֣ת הָאָ֑רֶץ וְיֵֽדְעוּ֙ כׇּל ־הָאָ֔רֶץ כִּ֛י יֵ֥שׁ אֱלֹהִ֖ים לְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל ׃
καὶ ἀποκλείσει σε κύριος σήμερον εἰς τὴν χεῖρά μου καὶ ἀποκτενῶ σε καὶ ἀφελῶ τὴν κεφαλήν σου ἀπὸ σοῦ καὶ δώσω τὰ κῶλά σου καὶ τὰ κῶλα παρεμβολῆς ἀλλοφύλων ἐν ταύτῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τοῖς πετεινοῖς τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ τοῖς θηρίοις τῆς γῆς καὶ γνώσεται πᾶσα ἡ γῆ ὅτι ἔστιν θεὸς ἐν Ισραηλ
hodie , et dabit te Dominus in manu mea , et percutiam te , et auferam caput tuum a te : et dabo cadavera castrorum Philisthiim hodie volatilibus caeli , et bestiis terrae , ut sciat omnis terra quia est Deus in Israël ,
ወየዐጽወከ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ዮም ፡ ውስተ ፡ እዴየ ፡ ወእቀትለከ ፡ ወእመትር ፡ ርእሰከ ፡ እምኔከ ፡ ወእሁብ ፡ በድነከ ፡ ወበድነ ፡ ትዕይንቶሙ ፡ ለኢሎፍሊ ፡ ዮም ፡ ለአዕዋፈ ፡ ሰማይ ፡ ወለአራዊተ ፡ ምድር ፡ ወያአምሩ ፡ እንከ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ምድር ፡ ከመ ፡ ሀሎ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ምስለ ፡ እስራኤል ።
Today, Yahweh will deliver you into my hand. I will strike you and take your head from off you. I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines today to the birds of the sky and to the wild animals of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,
17:47 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְיֵֽדְעוּ֙ כׇּל ־הַקָּהָ֣ל הַזֶּ֔ה כִּי ־לֹ֛א בְּחֶ֥רֶב וּבַחֲנִ֖ית יְהוֹשִׁ֣יעַ יְהֹוָ֑ה כִּ֤י לַֽיהֹוָה֙ הַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה וְנָתַ֥ן אֶתְכֶ֖ם בְּיָדֵֽנוּ ׃ {ס}
καὶ γνώσεται πᾶσα ἡ ἐκκλησία αὕτη ὅτι οὐκ ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ καὶ δόρατι σῴζει κύριος ὅτι τοῦ κυρίου ὁ πόλεμος καὶ παραδώσει κύριος ὑμᾶς εἰς χεῖρας ἡμῶν
et noverit universa ecclesia haec , quia non in gladio nec in hasta salvat Dominus : ipsius enim est bellum , et tradet vos in manus nostras .
ወያአምሩ ፡ እንከ ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ተዓይን ፡ ከመ ፡ አኮ ፡ በሰይፍ ፡ ወበኲናት ፡ ዘያድኅን ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ እስመ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ቀትል ፡ ወያገብአክሙ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ውስተ ፡ እዴነ ።
and that all this assembly may know that Yahweh doesn’t save with sword and spear; for the battle is Yahweh’s, and he will give you into our hand.”
17:48 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְהָיָה֙ כִּי ־קָ֣ם הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ וַיִּקְרַ֖ב לִקְרַ֣את דָּוִ֑ד וַיְמַהֵ֣ר דָּוִ֔ד וַיָּ֥רׇץ הַמַּעֲרָכָ֖ה לִקְרַ֥את הַפְּלִשְׁתִּֽי ׃
καὶ ἀνέστη ὁ ἀλλόφυλος καὶ ἐπορεύθη εἰς συνάντησιν Δαυιδ
Cum ergo surrexisset Philisthaeus , et veniret , et appropinquaret contra David , festinavit David et cucurrit ad pugnam ex adverso Philisthaei .
ወተንሥአ ፡ ዝክቱ ፡ ኢሎፍላዊ ፡ ወሖረ ፡ ወተቀበሎ ፡ ለዳዊት ።
When the Philistine arose, and walked and came near to meet David, David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
17:49 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּשְׁלַח֩ דָּוִ֨ד אֶת ־יָד֜וֹ אֶל ־הַכֶּ֗לִי וַיִּקַּ֨ח מִשָּׁ֥ם אֶ֙בֶן֙ וַיְקַלַּ֔ע וַיַּ֥ךְ אֶת ־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י אֶל ־מִצְח֑וֹ וַתִּטְבַּ֤ע הָאֶ֙בֶן֙ בְּמִצְח֔וֹ וַיִּפֹּ֥ל עַל ־פָּנָ֖יו אָֽרְצָה ׃
καὶ ἐξέτεινεν Δαυιδ τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸ κάδιον καὶ ἔλαβεν ἐκεῖθεν λίθον ἕνα καὶ ἐσφενδόνησεν καὶ ἐπάταξεν τὸν ἀλλόφυλον ἐπὶ τὸ μέτωπον αὐτοῦ καὶ διέδυ ὁ λίθος διὰ τῆς περικεφαλαίας εἰς τὸ μέτωπον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔπεσεν ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν
Et misit manum suam in peram , tulitque unum lapidem , et funda jecit , et circumducens percussit Philisthaeum in fronte : et infixus est lapis in fronte ejus , et cecidit in faciem suam super terram .
ወወደየ ፡ እዴሁ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ ውሰተ ፡ ዝክቱ ፡ መምጠቂቱ ፡ ወነሥአ ፡ እምህየ ፡ አሐተ ፡ እብነ ፡ ወወጸፋ ፡ ወሄጶ ፡ ለዝክቱ ፡ ኢሎፍላዊ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ፍጽሙ ፡ ወቦአት ፡ ይእቲ ፡ እብን ፡ እንተ ፡ ፍጽሙ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ናላሁ ፡ ወወድቀ ፡ በገጹ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ምድር ።
David put his hand in his bag, took a stone and slung it, and struck the Philistine in his forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth.
17:50 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֶּחֱזַ֨ק דָּוִ֤ד מִן ־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּי֙ בַּקֶּ֣לַע וּבָאֶ֔בֶן וַיַּ֥ךְ אֶת ־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י וַיְמִתֵ֑הוּ וְחֶ֖רֶב אֵ֥ין בְּיַד ־דָּוִֽד ׃
— Praevaluitque David adversum Philisthaeum in funda et lapide , percussumque Philisthaeum interfecit . Cumque gladium non haberet in manu David ,
[ወጸንዐ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ በሞጸፍ ፡ ወበእብን ፡ ወሰይፍ ፡ አልቦ ፡ ውስተ ፡ እዴሁ ።]
So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him; but there was no sword in David’s hand.
17:51 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיָּ֣רׇץ דָּ֠וִ֠ד וַיַּעֲמֹ֨ד אֶל ־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֜י וַיִּקַּ֣ח אֶת ־חַ֠רְבּ֠וֹ וַֽיִּשְׁלְפָ֤הּ מִתַּעְרָהּ֙ וַיְמֹ֣תְתֵ֔הוּ וַיִּכְרׇת ־בָּ֖הּ אֶת ־רֹאשׁ֑וֹ וַיִּרְא֧וּ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֛ים כִּי ־מֵ֥ת גִּבּוֹרָ֖ם וַיָּנֻֽסוּ ׃
καὶ ἔδραμεν Δαυιδ καὶ ἐπέστη ἐπ’ αὐτὸν καὶ ἔλαβεν τὴν ῥομφαίαν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐθανάτωσεν αὐτὸν καὶ ἀφεῖλεν τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶδον οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι ὅτι τέθνηκεν ὁ δυνατὸς αὐτῶν καὶ ἔφυγον
cucurrit , et stetit super Philisthaeum , et tulit gladium ejus , et eduxit eum de vagina sua : et interfecit eum , praeciditque caput ejus . Videntes autem Philisthiim quod mortuus esset fortissimus eorum , fugerunt .
ወሮጸ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ ወነሥአ ፡ ሰይፎ ፡ ወቀተሎ ፡ ቦቱ ፡ ወመተረ ፡ ርእሶ ፡ ወሶበ ፡ ርእዩ ፡ ኢሎፍሊ ፡ ከመ ፡ ሞተ ፡ ጽንዖሙ ፡ ጐዩ ።
Then David ran, stood over the Philistine, took his sword, drew it out of its sheath, killed him, and cut off his head with it. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.
17:52 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיָּקֻ֣מוּ אַנְשֵׁי֩ יִשְׂרָאֵ֨ל וִיהוּדָ֜ה וַיָּרִ֗עוּ וַֽיִּרְדְּפוּ֙ אֶת ־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים עַד ־בּוֹאֲךָ֣ גַ֔יְא וְעַ֖ד שַׁעֲרֵ֣י עֶקְר֑וֹן וַֽיִּפְּל֞וּ חַֽלְלֵ֤י פְלִשְׁתִּים֙ בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ שַׁעֲרַ֔יִם וְעַד ־גַּ֖ת וְעַד ־עֶקְרֽוֹן ׃
καὶ ἀνίστανται ἄνδρες Ισραηλ καὶ Ιουδα καὶ ἠλάλαξαν καὶ κατεδίωξαν ὀπίσω αὐτῶν ἕως εἰσόδου Γεθ καὶ ἕως τῆς πύλης Ἀσκαλῶνος καὶ ἔπεσαν τραυματίαι τῶν ἀλλοφύλων ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ τῶν πυλῶν καὶ ἕως Γεθ καὶ ἕως Ακκαρων
Et consurgentes viri Israël et Juda vociferati sunt , et persecuti sunt Philisthaeos usque dum venirent in vallem , et usque ad portas Accaron : cecideruntque vulnerati de Philisthiim in via Saraim , et usque ad Geth , et usque ad Accaron .
ወተንሥኡ ፡ ሰብአ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ወይቡዳ ፡ ወወውዑ ፡ ወዴገንዎሙ ፡ ወተለውዎሙ ፡ እስከ ፡ ፍኖተ ፡ ጌት ፡ ወእስከ ፡ አንቀጸ ፡ አስቀሎና ፡ ወወድቀ ፡ አብድንቲሆሙ ፡ ለኢሎፍሊ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ፍኖተ ፡ አናትጽ ፡ ወእስከ ፡ ጌት ፡ ወእስከ ፡ አቃሮን ።
The men of Israel and of Judah arose and shouted, and pursued the Philistines as far as Gai and to the gates of Ekron. The wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even to Gath and to Ekron.
17:53 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיָּשֻׁ֙בוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מִדְּלֹ֖ק אַחֲרֵ֣י פְלִשְׁתִּ֑ים וַיָּשֹׁ֖סּוּ אֶת ־מַחֲנֵיהֶֽם ׃
καὶ ἀνέστρεψαν ἄνδρες Ισραηλ ἐκκλίνοντες ὀπίσω τῶν ἀλλοφύλων καὶ κατεπάτουν τὰς παρεμβολὰς αὐτῶν
Et revertentes filii Israël postquam persecuti fuerant Philisthaeos , invaserunt castra eorum .
ወተመይጡ ፡ ለብአ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ወዴገንዎሙ ፡ ለኢሎፍሊ ፡ ወኬድዎን ፡ ለተዓይኒሆሙ ።
The children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they plundered their camp.
17:54 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּקַּ֤ח דָּוִד֙ אֶת ־רֹ֣אשׁ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י וַיְבִאֵ֖הוּ יְרוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם וְאֶת ־כֵּלָ֖יו שָׂ֥ם בְּאׇהֳלֽוֹ ׃ {ס}
καὶ ἔλαβεν Δαυιδ τὴν κεφαλὴν τοῦ ἀλλοφύλου καὶ ἤνεγκεν αὐτὴν εἰς Ιερουσαλημ καὶ τὰ σκεύη αὐτοῦ ἔθηκεν ἐν τῷ σκηνώματι αὐτοῦ
Assumens autem David caput Philisthaei , attulit illud in Jerusalem : arma vero ejus posuit in tabernaculo suo .
ወነሥአ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ ርእሶ ፡ ለውእቱ ፡ ኢሎፍላዊ ፡ ወወሰዶ ፡ ኢየሩሳሌም ፡ ወንዋዮሰ ፡ አንበረ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ትዕይንት ።
David took the head of the Philistine and brought it to Jerusalem, but he put his armor in his tent.
17:55 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְכִרְא֨וֹת שָׁא֜וּל אֶת ־דָּוִ֗ד יֹצֵא֙ לִקְרַ֣את הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י אָמַ֗ר אֶל ־אַבְנֵר֙ שַׂ֣ר הַצָּבָ֔א בֶּן ־מִי ־זֶ֥ה הַנַּ֖עַר אַבְנֵ֑ר וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אַבְנֵ֔ר חֵֽי ־נַפְשְׁךָ֥ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אִם ־יָדָֽעְתִּי ׃
— Eo autem tempore quo viderat Saul David egredientem contra Philisthaeum , ait ad Abner principem militiae : De qua stirpe descendit hic adolescens , Abner ? Dixitque Abner : Vivit anima tua , rex , si novi .
[ወሶበ ፡ ርእዮ ፡ ሳኦል ፡ ለዳዊት ፡ እንዘ ፡ ይወጽእ ፡ ለተቀብሎ ፡ ኢሎፍላዊ ፡ ይቤሎ ፡ ለአበኔር ፡ መልአከ ፡ ኀይሉ ፡ ወልደ ፡ መኑ ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ ሕፃን ፡ አቤኔር ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ አቤኔር ፡ ሕያው ፡ ነፍስከ ፡ ንጉሥ ፡ ኢያእመርኩ ።
When Saul saw David go out against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the captain of the army, “Abner, whose son is this youth?” Abner said, “As your soul lives, O king, I can’t tell.”
17:56 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֖אמֶר הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ שְׁאַ֣ל אַתָּ֔ה בֶּן ־מִי ־זֶ֖ה הָעָֽלֶם ׃ {ס}
— Et ait rex : Interroga tu , cujus filius sit iste puer .
ወይቤ ፡ ንጉሥ ፡ ሳኦል ፡ ተሰአል ፡ እንተ ፡ ወልደ ፡ መኑ ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ አእምር ።
The king said, “Inquire whose son the young man is!”
17:57 ⧉ ⤴︎ וּכְשׁ֣וּב דָּוִ֗ד מֵֽהַכּוֹת֙ אֶת ־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י וַיִּקַּ֤ח אֹתוֹ֙ אַבְנֵ֔ר וַיְבִאֵ֖הוּ לִפְנֵ֣י שָׁא֑וּל וְרֹ֥אשׁ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י בְּיָדֽוֹ ׃
— Cumque regressus esset David , percusso Philisthaeo , tulit eum Abner , et introduxit coram Saule , caput Philisthaei habentem in manu .
ወሶበ ፡ ተመይጠ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ እምኀበ ፡ ቀተሎ ፡ ለኢሎፍላዊ ፡ ወነሥኦ ፡ አቤኔር ፡ ወአብጽሖ ፡ ቅድመ ፡ ሳኦል ፡ ወርእሱ ፡ ለኢሎፍላዊ ፡ ውስተ ፡ እዴሁ ።
As David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
17:58 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלָיו֙ שָׁא֔וּל בֶּן ־מִ֥י אַתָּ֖ה הַנָּ֑עַר וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֔ד בֶּֽן ־עַבְדְּךָ֥ יִשַׁ֖י בֵּ֥ית הַלַּחְמִֽי ׃
— Et ait ad eum Saul : De qua progenie es , o adolescens ? Dixitque David : Filius servi tui Isai Bethlehemitae ego sum .
ወይቤሎ ፡ ሳኦል ፡ ወልደ ፡ መኑ ፡ አንተ ፡ ወሬዛ ፡ ወይቤለወ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ ወልደ ፡ ገብርከ ፡ እሴይ ፡ ዘቤተ ፡ ልሔም ።]
Saul said to him, “Whose son are you, you young man?” David answered, “I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.”
