18:1
וַיְהִ֗י כְּכַלֹּתוֹ֙ לְדַבֵּ֣ר אֶל־שָׁא֔וּל וְנֶ֙פֶשׁ֙ יְה֣וֹנָתָ֔ן נִקְשְׁרָ֖ה בְּנֶ֣פֶשׁ דָּוִ֑ד (ויאהבו) [וַיֶּֽאֱהָבֵ֥הוּ] יְהוֹנָתָ֖ן כְּנַפְשֽׁוֹ׃
—
Et factum est cum complesset loqui ad Saul, anima Jonathae conglutinata est animae David, et dilexit eum Jonathas quasi animam suam.
[ወከነ፡ ሶበ፡ ፈጸመ፡ ተናግር፡ ኀበ፡ ሳኦል፡ ወነፍሰ፡ ዮናታን፡ ተአስረ፡ በነፍስ፡ ዳዊት፡ ወአፍቀሮ፡ ዮናታን፡ ከመ፡ ነፍሱ።
When he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
18:2
וַיִּקָּחֵ֥הוּ שָׁא֖וּל בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֑וּא וְלֹ֣א נְתָנ֔וֹ לָשׁ֖וּב בֵּ֥ית אָבִֽיו׃
—
Tulitque eum Saul in die illa, et non concessit ei ut reverteretur in domum patris sui.
ወነሥኦ፡ ሳኦል፡ በውእቱ፡ ዕለት፡ ወኢወሀቦ፡ ከመ፡ ይትመየጥ፡ ቤተ፡ አቡሁ።
Saul took him that day, and wouldn’t let him go home to his father’s house any more.
18:3
וַיִּכְרֹ֧ת יְהוֹנָתָ֛ן וְדָוִ֖ד בְּרִ֑ית בְּאַהֲבָת֥וֹ אֹת֖וֹ כְּנַפְשֽׁוֹ׃
—
Inierunt autem David et Jonathas foedus : diligebat enim eum quasi animam suam.
ወተካየዱ፡ ዮናታን፡ ወዳዊት፡ ኪዳነ፡ ሶበ፡ አፍቀሮ፡ ከመ፡ ነፍሱ።
Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.
18:4
וַיִּתְפַּשֵּׁ֣ט יְהוֹנָתָ֗ן אֶֽת־הַמְּעִיל֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָלָ֔יו וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֖הוּ לְדָוִ֑ד וּמַדָּ֕יו וְעַד־חַרְבּ֥וֹ וְעַד־קַשְׁתּ֖וֹ וְעַד־חֲגֹרֽוֹ׃
—
Nam expoliavit se Jonathas tunica qua erat indutus, et dedit eam David, et reliqua vestimenta sua, usque ad gladium et arcum suum, et usque ad balteum.
ወአውረደ፡ ዮናታን፡ ዐፅፈ፡ ዘላዕሌሁ፡ ወወሀቦ፡ ለዳዊት፡ ወማዳዮሂ፡ ወሰይፎ፡ ወእስከ፡ ቀስቱ፡ ወቅናቱ።
Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to David with his clothing, even including his sword, his bow, and his sash.
18:5
וַיֵּצֵ֨א דָוִ֜ד בְּכֹל֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִשְׁלָחֶ֤נּוּ שָׁאוּל֙ יַשְׂכִּ֔יל וַיְשִׂמֵ֣הוּ שָׁא֔וּל עַ֖ל אַנְשֵׁ֣י הַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה וַיִּיטַב֙ בְּעֵינֵ֣י כׇל־הָעָ֔ם וְגַ֕ם בְּעֵינֵ֖י עַבְדֵ֥י שָׁאֽוּל׃ {פ}
—
Egrediebatur quoque David ad omnia quaecumque misisset eum Saul, et prudenter se agebat : posuitque eum Saul super viros belli, et acceptus erat in oculis universi populi, maximeque in conspectu famulorum Saul.
ወይወፅእ፡ ዳዊት፡ ኀበ፡ ኵሉ፡ ዘፈነዎ፡ ሳኦል፡ ወይጠብብ፡ ወያአምር፡ ወሤሞ፡ ላዕለ፡ ዕደው፡ መስተቃትላን፡ ወአደሞ፡ በቅድመ፡ አዕይንቲሁ፡ ወበቅድመ፡ አዕይንቲሆሙ፡ ለደቂቀ፡ ሳኦል።
David went out wherever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely; and Saul set him over the men of war. It was good in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.
18:6
וַיְהִ֣י בְּבוֹאָ֗ם בְּשׁ֤וּב דָּוִד֙ מֵהַכּ֣וֹת אֶת־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י וַתֵּצֶ֨אנָה הַנָּשִׁ֜ים מִכׇּל־עָרֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (לשור) [לָשִׁ֣יר] וְהַמְּחֹל֔וֹת לִקְרַ֖את שָׁא֣וּל הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ בְּתֻפִּ֥ים בְּשִׂמְחָ֖ה וּבְשָׁלִשִֽׁים׃
καὶ ἐξῆλθον αἱ χορεύουσαι εἰς συνάντησιν Δαυιδ ἐκ πασῶν πόλεων Ισραηλ ἐν τυμπάνοις καὶ ἐν χαρμοσύνῃ καὶ ἐν κυμβάλοις
Porro cum reverteretur percusso Philisthaeo David, egressae sunt mulieres de universis urbibus Israël, cantantes, chorosque ducentes in occursum Saul regis, in tympanis laetitiae, et in sistris.
ወሶበ፡ ተመይጠ፡ ዳዊት፡ እምኀበ፡ ቀተሎ፡ ለኢሎፍላዊ፡] ወወፅኣ፡ ሐላይያት፡ ወተቀበላሁ፡ ለዳዊት፡ እምነ፡ ኵሉ፡ አህጉረ፡ እስራኤል፡ በከበሮ፡ ወበትፍሥሕት፡ ወበማሕሌት።
As they came, when David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul with tambourines, with joy, and with instruments of music.
18:7
וַֽתַּעֲנֶ֛ינָה הַנָּשִׁ֥ים הַֽמְשַׂחֲק֖וֹת וַתֹּאמַ֑רְןָ הִכָּ֤ה שָׁאוּל֙ בַּאֲלָפָ֔ו וְדָוִ֖ד בְּרִבְבֹתָֽיו׃
καὶ ἐξῆρχον αἱ γυναῖκες καὶ ἔλεγον ἐπάταξεν Σαουλ ἐν χιλιάσιν αὐτοῦ καὶ Δαυιδ ἐν μυριάσιν αὐτοῦ
Et praecinebant mulieres, ludentes, atque dicentes : Percussit Saul mille, et David decem millia.
ወሐለያ፡ አንስት፡ ወይቤላ፡ ቀተለ፡ ሳኦል፡ ዐሠርተ፡ ምእተ፡ ወዳዊት፡ ቀተለ፡ እልፈ።
The women sang to one another as they played, and said, “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.”
18:8
וַיִּ֨חַר לְשָׁא֜וּל מְאֹ֗ד וַיֵּ֤רַע בְּעֵינָיו֙ הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה וַיֹּ֗אמֶר נָתְנ֤וּ לְדָוִד֙ רְבָב֔וֹת וְלִ֥י נָתְנ֖וּ הָאֲלָפִ֑ים וְע֥וֹד ל֖וֹ אַ֥ךְ הַמְּלוּכָֽה׃
καὶ πονηρὸν ἐφάνη τὸ ῥῆμα ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς Σαουλ περὶ τοῦ λόγου τούτου καὶ εἶπεν τῷ Δαυιδ ἔδωκαν τὰς μυριάδας καὶ ἐμοὶ ἔδωκαν τὰς χιλιάδας
Iratus est autem Saul nimis, et displicuit in oculis ejus sermo iste : dixitque : Dederunt David decem millia, et mihi mille dederunt : quid ei superest, nisi solum regnum ?
ወእኩየ፡ ኮነ፡ ዝንቱ፡ ነገር፡ ቅድመ፡ አዕይንቲሁ፡ ለሳኦል፡ [ወይቤ፡ ሳኦል፡ ኦግብኣ፡ ለዳዊት፡ ፼ወሊተ፡ ፲፻፡]፡
Saul was very angry, and this saying displeased him. He said, “They have credited David with ten thousands, and they have only credited me with thousands. What can he have more but the kingdom?”
18:9
וַיְהִ֥י שָׁא֖וּל (עון) [עוֹיֵ֣ן] אֶת־דָּוִ֑ד מֵֽהַיּ֥וֹם הַה֖וּא וָהָֽלְאָה׃ {ס}
καὶ ἦν Σαουλ ὑποβλεπόμενος τὸν Δαυιδ ἀπὸ τῆς ἡμέρας ἐκείνης καὶ ἐπέκεινα
Non rectis ergo oculis Saul aspiciebat David a die illa et deinceps.
ወእምይእቲ፡ ዕለት፡ ይጸንሖ፡ ሳኦል፡ ለዳዊት፡ ወኵሎ፡ ኦሚረ።
Saul watched David from that day and forward.
18:10
וַיְהִ֣י מִֽמׇּחֳרָ֗ת וַתִּצְלַ֣ח ר֩וּחַ֩ אֱלֹהִ֨ים׀רָעָ֤ה׀אֶל־שָׁאוּל֙ וַיִּתְנַבֵּ֣א בְתוֹךְ־הַבַּ֔יִת וְדָוִ֛ד מְנַגֵּ֥ן בְּיָד֖וֹ כְּי֣וֹם׀בְּי֑וֹם וְהַחֲנִ֖ית בְּיַד־שָׁאֽוּל׃
—
Post diem autem alteram, invasit spiritus Dei malus Saul, et prophetabat in medio domus suae : David autem psallebat manu sua, sicut per singulos dies. Tenebatque Saul lanceam,
—
On the next day, an evil spirit from God came mightily on Saul, and he prophesied in the middle of the house. David played with his hand, as he did day by day. Saul had his spear in his hand;
18:11
וַיָּ֤טֶל שָׁאוּל֙ אֶֽת־הַחֲנִ֔ית וַיֹּ֕אמֶר אַכֶּ֥ה בְדָוִ֖ד וּבַקִּ֑יר וַיִּסֹּ֥ב דָּוִ֛ד מִפָּנָ֖יו פַּעֲמָֽיִם׃
—
et misit eam, putans quod configere posset David cum pariete : et declinavit David a facie ejus secundo.
—
and Saul threw the spear, for he said, “I will pin David to the wall!” David escaped from his presence twice.
18:12
וַיִּרָ֥א שָׁא֖וּל מִלִּפְנֵ֣י דָוִ֑ד כִּֽי־הָיָ֤ה יְהֹוָה֙ עִמּ֔וֹ וּמֵעִ֥ם שָׁא֖וּל סָֽר׃
καὶ ἐφοβήθη Σαουλ ἀπὸ προσώπου Δαυιδ
Et timuit Saul David, eo quod Dominus esset cum eo, et a se recessisset.
ወፈርሀ፡ ሳኦል፡ እምቅድመ፡ ገጹ፡ ለዳዊት።
Saul was afraid of David, because Yahweh was with him, and had departed from Saul.
18:13
וַיְסִרֵ֤הוּ שָׁאוּל֙ מֵֽעִמּ֔וֹ וַיְשִׂמֵ֥הוּ ל֖וֹ שַׂר־אָ֑לֶף וַיֵּצֵ֥א וַיָּבֹ֖א לִפְנֵ֥י הָעָֽם׃ {ס}
καὶ ἀπέστησεν αὐτὸν ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ καὶ κατέστησεν αὐτὸν ἑαυτῷ χιλίαρχον καὶ ἐξεπορεύετο καὶ εἰσεπορεύετο ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ λαοῦ
Amovit ergo eum Saul a se, et fecit eum tribunum super mille viros : et egrediebatur, et intrabat in conspectu populi.
ወአርሐቆ፡ እምኀቤሁ፡ ወሜሞ፡ መስፍነ፡ ወይበውእ፡ ወይወጽእ፡ ቅድመ፡ ሕዝብ።
Therefore Saul removed him from his presence, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
18:14
וַיְהִ֥י דָוִ֛ד לְכׇל־דְּרָכָ֖ו מַשְׂכִּ֑יל וַיהֹוָ֖ה עִמּֽוֹ׃
καὶ ἦν Δαυιδ ἐν πάσαις ταῖς ὁδοῖς αὐτοῦ συνίων καὶ κύριος μετ’ αὐτοῦ
In omnibus quoque viis suis David prudenter agebat, et Dominus erat cum eo.
ወዳዊትሰ፡ ጠቢብ፡ ውእቱ፡ ወማእምር፡ በኵሉ፡ ፍናዊሁ፡ ወእግዚአብሔር፡ ሀሎ፡ ምስሌሁ።
David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and Yahweh was with him.
18:15
וַיַּ֣רְא שָׁא֔וּל אֲשֶׁר־ה֖וּא מַשְׂכִּ֣יל מְאֹ֑ד וַיָּ֖גׇר מִפָּנָֽיו׃
καὶ εἶδεν Σαουλ ὡς αὐτὸς συνίει σφόδρα καὶ εὐλαβεῖτο ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ
Vidit itaque Saul quod prudens esset nimis, et coepit cavere eum.
ወሶበ፡ ርእዮ፡ ሳኦል፡ ከመ፡ ጠቢብ፡ ውእቱ፡ ፈርሀ፡ ጥቀ፡ እምቅድመ፡ ገጹ።
When Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he stood in awe of him.
18:16
וְכׇל־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וִֽיהוּדָ֔ה אֹהֵ֖ב אֶת־דָּוִ֑ד כִּי־ה֛וּא יוֹצֵ֥א וָבָ֖א לִפְנֵיהֶֽם׃ {פ}
καὶ πᾶς Ισραηλ καὶ Ιουδας ἠγάπα τὸν Δαυιδ ὅτι αὐτὸς ἐξεπορεύετο καὶ εἰσεπορεύετο πρὸ προσώπου τοῦ λαοῦ
Omnis autem Israël et Juda diligebat David : ipse enim ingrediebatur et egrediebatur ante eos.
ወኵሉ፡ እስራኤል፡ ወይሁዳ፡ ያፈቅርዎ፡ ለዳዊት፡ እስመ፡ ውእቱ፡ ይበውእ፡ ወይወፅእ፡ ቅድመ፡ ገጾሙ፡ ለሕዝብ።
But all Israel and Judah loved David; for he went out and came in before them.
18:17
וַיֹּ֨אמֶר שָׁא֜וּל אֶל־דָּוִ֗ד הִנֵּה֩ בִתִּ֨י הַגְּדוֹלָ֤ה מֵרַב֙ אֹתָהּ֙ אֶתֶּן־לְךָ֣ לְאִשָּׁ֔ה אַ֚ךְ הֱיֵה־לִ֣י לְבֶן־חַ֔יִל וְהִלָּחֵ֖ם מִלְחֲמ֣וֹת יְהֹוָ֑ה וְשָׁא֣וּל אָמַ֗ר אַל־תְּהִ֤י יָדִי֙ בּ֔וֹ וּתְהִי־ב֖וֹ יַד־פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃ {ס}
—
Dixitque Saul ad David : Ecce filia mea major Merob : ipsam dabo tibi uxorem : tantummodo esto vir fortis, et praeliare bella Domini. Saul autem reputabat, dicens : Non sit manus mea in eum, sed sit super eum manus Philisthinorum.
[ወይቤሎ፡ ሳኦል፡ ለዳዊት፡ ነያ፡ ወለትየ፡ እንተ፡ ተዐቢ።
Saul said to David, “Behold, my elder daughter Merab. I will give her to you as wife. Only be valiant for me, and fight Yahweh’s battles.” For Saul said, “Don’t let my hand be on him, but let the hand of the Philistines be on him.”
18:18
וַיֹּ֨אמֶר דָּוִ֜ד אֶל־שָׁא֗וּל מִ֤י אָֽנֹכִי֙ וּמִ֣י חַיַּ֔י מִשְׁפַּ֥חַת אָבִ֖י בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כִּי־אֶהְיֶ֥ה חָתָ֖ן לַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃
—
Ait autem David ad Saul : Quis ego sum, aut quae est vita mea, aut cognatio patris mei in Israël, ut fiam gener regis ?
ሜሮብ ፤ ኪያሃ፡ እሁበከ፡ ብእሲተ፡ ወባሕቱ፡ ኩን፡ ሊተ፡ ወልደ፡ ኀይል፡ ወተቃተል፡ ምስለ፡ መስተቃትላነ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፤ ወሳኦል፡ ይዜ፡ ኢትኩን፡ እዴየ፡ ላዕሌሁ፡ ወትኩን፡ ላዕሌሁ፡ እደ፡ ኢሎፍሊ።
David said to Saul, “Who am I, and what is my life, or my father’s family in Israel, that I should be son-in-law to the king?”
18:19
וַיְהִ֗י בְּעֵ֛ת תֵּ֛ת אֶת־מֵרַ֥ב בַּת־שָׁא֖וּל לְדָוִ֑ד וְהִ֧יא נִתְּנָ֛ה לְעַדְרִיאֵ֥ל הַמְּחֹלָתִ֖י לְאִשָּֽׁה׃
—
Factum est autem tempus cum deberet dari Merob filia Saul David, data est Hadrieli Molathitae uxor.
ወይቤሎ፡ ዳዊት፡ ለሳኦል፡ መኑ፡ አነ፡ ወምንት፡ ሕይወትየ፡ እምሕዝበ፡ አቡየ፡ ውስተ፡ እስራኤል፡ ከመ፡ እትሐመዎ፡ ለንጉሥ።
But at the time when Merab, Saul’s daughter, should have been given to David, she was given to Adriel the Meholathite as wife.
18:20
וַתֶּאֱהַ֛ב מִיכַ֥ל בַּת־שָׁא֖וּל אֶת־דָּוִ֑ד וַיַּגִּ֣דוּ לְשָׁא֔וּל וַיִּשַׁ֥ר הַדָּבָ֖ר בְּעֵינָֽיו׃
καὶ ἠγάπησεν Μελχολ ἡ θυγάτηρ Σαουλ τὸν Δαυιδ καὶ ἀπηγγέλη Σαουλ καὶ ηὐθύνθη ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς αὐτοῦ
Dilexit autem David Michol filia Saul altera. Et nuntiatum est Saul, et placuit ei.
ወኮነ፡ በጊዜ፡ ዘትትወሀብ፡ ሜሮብ፡ ወለተ፡ ሳኦል፡ ለዳዊት፡ ተውህበት፡ ይእቲ፡ ለአዲራኤል፡ ሜሆላዊ።] ወኦፍቀረቶ፡ ሜልኮል፡ ወለተ፡ ሳኦል፡ ለዳዊት፡ ወአይድዕዎ፡ ለሳኦል፡ ወአደሞ፡ ቅድመ፡ አዕይንቲሁ።
Michal, Saul’s daughter, loved David; and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.
18:21
וַיֹּ֨אמֶר שָׁא֜וּל אֶתְּנֶ֤נָּה לּוֹ֙ וּתְהִי־ל֣וֹ לְמוֹקֵ֔שׁ וּתְהִי־ב֖וֹ יַד־פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים וַיֹּ֤אמֶר שָׁאוּל֙ אֶל־דָּוִ֔ד בִּשְׁתַּ֛יִם תִּתְחַתֵּ֥ן בִּ֖י הַיּֽוֹם׃
καὶ εἶπεν Σαουλ δώσω αὐτὴν αὐτῷ καὶ ἔσται αὐτῷ εἰς σκάνδαλον καὶ ἦν ἐπὶ Σαουλ χεὶρ ἀλλοφύλων
Dixitque Saul : Dabo eam illi, ut fiat ei in scandalum, et sit super eum manus Philisthinorum. Dixitque Saul ad David : In duabus rebus gener meus eris hodie.
ወይቤ፡ ሳኦል፡ እሁቦ፡ ኪያሃ፡ ወትከውኖ፡ ዕቅፍተ ፤ ወሀለወት፡ ላዕለ፡ ሳኦል፡ እዴሁ፡ ለኢሎፍሊ።
Saul said, I will give her to him, that she may be a snare to him and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Therefore Saul said to David a second time, “You shall today be my son-in-law.”
18:22
וַיְצַ֨ו שָׁא֜וּל אֶת־עֲבָדָ֗ו דַּבְּר֨וּ אֶל־דָּוִ֤ד בַּלָּט֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר הִנֵּ֨ה חָפֵ֤ץ בְּךָ֙ הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וְכׇל־עֲבָדָ֖יו אֲהֵב֑וּךָ וְעַתָּ֖ה הִתְחַתֵּ֥ן בַּמֶּֽלֶךְ׃
καὶ ἐνετείλατο Σαουλ τοῖς παισὶν αὐτοῦ λέγων λαλήσατε ὑμεῖς λάθρᾳ τῷ Δαυιδ λέγοντες ἰδοὺ ὁ βασιλεὺς θέλει ἐν σοί καὶ πάντες οἱ παῖδες αὐτοῦ ἀγαπῶσίν σε καὶ σὺ ἐπιγάμβρευσον τῷ βασιλεῖ
Et mandavit Saul servis suis : Loquimini ad David clam me, dicentes : Ecce places regi, et omnes servi ejus diligunt te : nunc ergo esto gener regis.
ወአዘዞሙ፡ ሳኦል፡ ለደቁ፡ ወይቤሎሙ፡ በልዎ፡ ጽምሚተ፡ ለዳዊት፡ ንጉሥ፡ ያፈቅረከ፡ ወሰብኡኒ፡ ኵሎሙ፡ ያፈቅሩከ፡ ወአንተኒ፡ ተሐመዎ፡ ለንጉሥ።
Saul commanded his servants, “Talk with David secretly, and say, ‘Behold, the king has delight in you, and all his servants love you. Now therefore be the king’s son-in-law.’”
18:23
וַֽיְדַבְּר֞וּ עַבְדֵ֤י שָׁאוּל֙ בְּאׇזְנֵ֣י דָוִ֔ד אֶת־הַדְּבָרִ֖ים הָאֵ֑לֶּה וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֗ד הַֽנְקַלָּ֤ה בְעֵֽינֵיכֶם֙ הִתְחַתֵּ֣ן בַּמֶּ֔לֶךְ וְאָנֹכִ֖י אִֽישׁ־רָ֥שׁ וְנִקְלֶֽה׃
καὶ ἐλάλησαν οἱ παῖδες Σαουλ εἰς τὰ ὦτα Δαυιδ τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ εἰ κοῦφον ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς ὑμῶν ἐπιγαμβρεῦσαι βασιλεῖ κἀγὼ ἀνὴρ ταπεινὸς καὶ οὐχὶ ἔνδοξος
Et locuti sunt servi Saul in auribus David omnia verba haec. Et ait David : Num parum videtur vobis, generum esse regis ? ego autem sum vir pauper et tenuis.
ወተናገርዎ፡ ደቀ፡ ሳኦል፡ ለዳዊት፡ ዘንተ፡ ነገረ፡ ወይቤሎሙ፡ ዳዊት፡ ይረትዐክሙኑ፡ ከመ፡ እትሐመዎ፡ ለንጉሥ ፤ አነ፡ ብእሲ፡ ትሑት፡ ዘኢኮንኩ፡ ክቡረ።
Saul’s servants spoke those words in the ears of David. David said, “Does it seem to you a light thing to be the king’s son-in-law, since I am a poor man and little known?”
18:24
וַיַּגִּ֜דוּ עַבְדֵ֥י שָׁא֛וּל ל֖וֹ לֵאמֹ֑ר כַּדְּבָרִ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה דִּבֶּ֥ר דָּוִֽד׃
καὶ ἀπήγγειλαν οἱ παῖδες Σαουλ αὐτῷ κατὰ τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα ἃ ἐλάλησεν Δαυιδ
Et renuntiaverunt servi Saul dicentes : Hujuscemodi verba locutus est David.
ወአይድዕዎ፡ ደቁ፡ ለሳኦል፡ ዘንተ፡ ነገረ፡ ዘይቤ፡ ዳዊት።
The servants of Saul told him, saying, “David spoke like this.”
18:25
וַיֹּ֨אמֶר שָׁא֜וּל כֹּה־תֹאמְר֣וּ לְדָוִ֗ד אֵֽין־חֵ֤פֶץ לַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ בְּמֹ֔הַר כִּ֗י בְּמֵאָה֙ עׇרְל֣וֹת פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים לְהִנָּקֵ֖ם בְּאֹיְבֵ֣י הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וְשָׁא֣וּל חָשַׁ֔ב לְהַפִּ֥יל אֶת־דָּוִ֖ד בְּיַד־פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃
καὶ εἶπεν Σαουλ τάδε ἐρεῖτε τῷ Δαυιδ οὐ βούλεται ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐν δόματι ἀλλ’ ἢ ἐν ἑκατὸν ἀκροβυστίαις ἀλλοφύλων ἐκδικῆσαι εἰς ἐχθροὺς τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ Σαουλ ἐλογίσατο αὐτὸν ἐμβαλεῖν εἰς χεῖρας τῶν ἀλλοφύλων
Dixit autem Saul : Sic loquimini ad David : Non habet rex sponsalia necesse, nisi tantum centum praeputia Philisthinorum, ut fiat ultio de inimicis regis. Porro Saul cogitabat tradere David in manus Philisthinorum.
ወይቤሎሙ፡ ሳኦል፡ በልዎ፡ ለዳዊት፡ ኢይፈቅድ፡ ንጉሥ፡ ሀብተ፡ አላ፡ ፻ቈላፋነ፡ እምውስተ፡ ኢሎፍሊ፡ ከመ፡ ይትበቀሉ፡ ሎቱ፡ ፀሮ፡ ለንጉሥ ፤ ወሳኦልሰ፡ ኀለየ፡ ዘከመ፡ ያገብኦ፡ ውስተ፡ እዴሆሙ፡ ለኢሎፍሊ።
Saul said, “Tell David, ‘The king desires no dowry except one hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king’s enemies.’” Now Saul thought he would make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
18:26
וַיַּגִּ֨דוּ עֲבָדָ֤יו לְדָוִד֙ אֶת־הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה וַיִּשַׁ֤ר הַדָּבָר֙ בְּעֵינֵ֣י דָוִ֔ד לְהִתְחַתֵּ֖ן בַּמֶּ֑לֶךְ וְלֹ֥א מָלְא֖וּ הַיָּמִֽים׃
καὶ ἀπαγγέλλουσιν οἱ παῖδες Σαουλ τῷ Δαυιδ τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα καὶ εὐθύνθη ὁ λόγος ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς Δαυιδ ἐπιγαμβρεῦσαι τῷ βασιλεῖ
Cumque renuntiassent servi ejus David verba quae dixerat Saul, placuit sermo in oculis David, ut fieret gener regis.
ወነገርዎ፡ ደቀ፡ ሳኦል፡ ለዳዊት፡ ዘንተ፡ ነገረ፡ ወአደሞ፡ ቅድመ፡ አዕይንቲሁ፡ ለዳዊት፡ ከመ፡ ይትሐመዎ፡ ለንጉሥ።
When his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king’s son-in-law. Before the deadline,
18:27
וַיָּ֨קׇם דָּוִ֜ד וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ׀ ה֣וּא וַאֲנָשָׁ֗יו וַיַּ֣ךְ בַּפְּלִשְׁתִּים֮ מָאתַ֣יִם אִישׁ֒ וַיָּבֵ֤א דָוִד֙ אֶת־עׇרְלֹ֣תֵיהֶ֔ם וַיְמַלְא֣וּם לַמֶּ֔לֶךְ לְהִתְחַתֵּ֖ן בַּמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיִּתֶּן־ל֥וֹ שָׁא֛וּל אֶת־מִיכַ֥ל בִּתּ֖וֹ לְאִשָּֽׁה׃ {ס}
καὶ ἀνέστη Δαυιδ καὶ ἐπορεύθη αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπάταξεν ἐν τοῖς ἀλλοφύλοις ἑκατὸν ἄνδρας καὶ ἀνήνεγκεν τὰς ἀκροβυστίας αὐτῶν τῷ βασιλεῖ καὶ ἐπιγαμβρεύεται τῷ βασιλεῖ καὶ δίδωσιν αὐτῷ τὴν Μελχολ θυγατέρα αὐτοῦ αὐτῷ εἰς γυναῖκα
Et post paucos dies surgens David, abiit cum viris qui sub eo erant. Et percussit ex Philisthiim ducentos viros, et attulit eorum praeputia et annumeravit ea regi, ut esset gener ejus. Dedit itaque Saul ei Michol filiam suam uxorem.
ወተንሥአ፡ ዳዊት፡ ወሖረ፡ ምስለ፡ ሰብኡ፡ ወቀተለ፡ እምውስተ፡ ኢሎፍሊ፡ ፻ብእሴ ፤ ወወሰደ፡ ቍልፈተ፡ ነፍስቶሙ፡ ለንጉሥ፡ ወተሐመዎ፡ ለንጉሥ፡ ወወሀቦ፡ ሜልኮልሃ፡ ወለቶ፡ ትኩኖ፡ ብእሲቶ።
David arose and went, he and his men, and killed two hundred men of the Philistines. Then David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full number to the king, that he might be the king’s son-in-law. Then Saul gave him Michal his daughter as wife.
18:28
וַיַּ֤רְא שָׁאוּל֙ וַיֵּ֔דַע כִּ֥י יְהֹוָ֖ה עִם־דָּוִ֑ד וּמִיכַ֥ל בַּת־שָׁא֖וּל אֲהֵבַֽתְהוּ׃
καὶ εἶδεν Σαουλ ὅτι κύριος μετὰ Δαυιδ καὶ πᾶς Ισραηλ ἠγάπα αὐτόν
Et vidit Saul, et intellexit quod Dominus esset cum David. Michol autem filia Saul diligebat eum.
ወርእየ፡ ሳኦል፡ ከመ፡ ሀለወ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ምስለ፡ ዳዊት፡ ወኵሉ፡ እስራኤል፡ ያፈቅሮ።
Saul saw and knew that Yahweh was with David; and Michal, Saul’s daughter, loved him.
18:29
וַיֹּ֣אסֶף שָׁא֗וּל לֵרֹ֛א מִפְּנֵ֥י דָוִ֖ד ע֑וֹד וַיְהִ֥י שָׁא֛וּל אֹיֵ֥ב אֶת־דָּוִ֖ד כׇּל־הַיָּמִֽים׃ {פ}
καὶ προσέθετο εὐλαβεῖσθαι ἀπὸ Δαυιδ ἔτι
Et Saul magis coepit timere David : factusque est Saul inimicus David cunctis diebus.
ወይፈርሆ፡ እንከ፡ ለዳዊት፡ ፈድፋደ።
Saul was even more afraid of David; and Saul was David’s enemy continually.
18:30
וַיֵּצְא֖וּ שָׂרֵ֣י פְלִשְׁתִּ֑ים וַיְהִ֣י׀ מִדֵּ֣י צֵאתָ֗ם שָׂכַ֤ל דָּוִד֙ מִכֹּל֙ עַבְדֵ֣י שָׁא֔וּל וַיִּיקַ֥ר שְׁמ֖וֹ מְאֹֽד׃ {ס}
—
Et egressi sunt principes Philisthinorum. A principio autem egressionis eorum, prudentius se gerebat David quam omnes servi Saul, et celebre factum est nomen ejus nimis.
—
Then the princes of the Philistines went out; and as often as they went out, David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul, so that his name was highly esteemed.
