4:1
וַיִּשְׁמַ֣ע בֶּן־שָׁא֗וּל כִּ֣י מֵ֤ת אַבְנֵר֙ בְּחֶבְר֔וֹן וַיִּרְפּ֖וּ יָדָ֑יו וְכׇל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל נִבְהָֽלוּ׃
καὶ ἤκουσεν Μεμφιβοσθε υἱὸς Σαουλ ὅτι τέθνηκεν Αβεννηρ ἐν Χεβρων καὶ ἐξελύθησαν αἱ χεῖρες αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντες οἱ ἄνδρες Ισραηλ παρείθησαν
Audivit autem Isboseth filius Saul quod cecidisset Abner in Hebron : et dissolutae sunt manus ejus, omnisque Israël perturbatus est.
ወሰምዐ፡ ኢያቡስቴ፡ ከመ፡ ሞተ፡ አቤኔር፡ በኬብሮን፡ ወደክመ፡ እደዊሁ፡ ወኵሉ፡ ሰብአ፡ እስራኤል፡ ደንገፁ።
When Saul’s son heard that Abner was dead in Hebron, his hands became feeble, and all the Israelites were troubled.
4:2
וּשְׁנֵ֣י אֲנָשִׁ֣ים שָׂרֵֽי־גְדוּדִ֣ים הָי֪וּ בֶן־שָׁא֟וּל שֵׁם֩ הָאֶחָ֨ד בַּעֲנָ֜ה וְשֵׁ֧ם הַשֵּׁנִ֣י רֵכָ֗ב בְּנֵ֛י רִמּ֥וֹן הַבְּאֵרֹתִ֖י מִבְּנֵ֣י בִנְיָמִ֑ן כִּ֚י גַּם־בְּאֵר֔וֹת תֵּחָשֵׁ֖ב עַל־בִּנְיָמִֽן׃
καὶ δύο ἄνδρες ἡγούμενοι συστρεμμάτων τῷ Μεμφιβοσθε υἱῷ Σαουλ ὄνομα τῷ ἑνὶ Βαανα καὶ ὄνομα τῷ δευτέρῳ Ρηχαβ υἱοὶ Ρεμμων τοῦ Βηρωθαίου ἐκ τῶν υἱῶν Βενιαμιν ὅτι Βηρωθ ἐλογίζετο τοῖς υἱοῖς Βενιαμιν
Duo autem viri principes latronum erant filio Saul, nomen uni Baana, et nomen alteri Rechab, filii Remmon Berothitae de filiis Benjamin : siquidem et Beroth reputata est in Benjamin.
ወሀለዉ፡ ፪ዕደው፡ መሳፍንት፡ እሙንቱ፡ በደወለ፡ ምኵናኑ፡ ለኢያቡስቴ፡ ወልደ፡ ሳኦል፡ ወስሙ፡ ለአሐዱ፡ ሬቃካ፡ ወስመ፡ ካልኡ፡ በዐም፡ ደቂቀ፡ ሬሞን፡ ቤሮታዊ፡ ዘእምደቂቀ፡ ብንያም።
Saul’s son had two men who were captains of raiding bands. The name of one was Baanah and the name of the other Rechab, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, of the children of Benjamin (for Beeroth also is considered a part of Benjamin;
4:3
וַיִּבְרְח֥וּ הַבְּאֵרֹתִ֖ים גִּתָּ֑יְמָה וַיִּהְיוּ־שָׁ֣ם גָּרִ֔ים עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃ {ס}
καὶ ἀπέδρασαν οἱ Βηρωθαῖοι εἰς Γεθθαιμ καὶ ἦσαν ἐκεῖ παροικοῦντες ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης
Et fugerunt Berothitae in Gethaim, fueruntque ibi advenae usque ad tempus illud.
ወተኀጥኡ፡ እሙንቱ፡ ቤሮታዊያን፡ እምነ፡ ጌት፡ ወነበሩ፡ ህየ፡ እስከ፡ ዛቲ፡ ዕለት።
and the Beerothites fled to Gittaim, and have lived as foreigners there until today).
4:4
וְלִיהֽוֹנָתָן֙ בֶּן־שָׁא֔וּל בֵּ֖ן נְכֵ֣ה רַגְלָ֑יִם בֶּן־חָמֵ֣שׁ שָׁנִ֣ים הָיָ֡ה בְּבֹ֣א שְׁמֻעַת֩ שָׁא֨וּל וִיהוֹנָתָ֜ן מִֽיִּזְרְעֶ֗אל וַתִּשָּׂאֵ֤הוּ אֹֽמַנְתּוֹ֙ וַתָּנֹ֔ס וַיְהִ֞י בְּחׇפְזָ֥הּ לָנ֛וּס וַיִּפֹּ֥ל וַיִּפָּסֵ֖חַ וּשְׁמ֥וֹ מְפִיבֹֽשֶׁת׃
καὶ τῷ Ιωναθαν υἱῷ Σαουλ υἱὸς πεπληγὼς τοὺς πόδας υἱὸς ἐτῶν πέντε οὗτος ἐν τῷ ἐλθεῖν τὴν ἀγγελίαν Σαουλ καὶ Ιωναθαν τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ ἐξ Ιεζραελ καὶ ἦρεν αὐτὸν ἡ τιθηνὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔφυγεν καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ σπεύδειν αὐτὴν καὶ ἀναχωρεῖν καὶ ἔπεσεν καὶ ἐχωλάνθη καὶ ὄνομα αὐτῷ Μεμφιβοσθε
Erat autem Jonathae filio Saul filius debilis pedibus : quinquennis enim fuit, quando venit nuntius de Saul et Jonatha ex Jezrahel. Tollens itaque eum nutrix sua, fugit : cumque festinaret ut fugeret, cecidit, et claudus effectus est : habuitque vocabulum Miphiboseth.
ወዮናታን፡ ወልደ፡ ሳኦል፡ ቦ፡ ወልደ፡ ወፅውስ፡ እገሪሁ፡ ወልደ፡ ፭ዓም፡ ውእቱ፡ ወሎቱ፡ አመ፡ በጽሐ፡ ዜና፡ ሳኦል፡ ወዮናታን፡ ወልዱ፡ እምኀበ፡ እስራኤል፡ ወነሥአቶ፡ ሐፃኒቱ፡ ወጐየት፡ ምስሌሁ፡ ወእንዘ፡ ትረውጽ፡ ከመ፡ ትትኀጣእ፡ ምስሌሁ፡ ወድቀ፡ ወፀወሰ፡ ወስሙ፡ ሜንፎብስቱ።
Now Jonathan, Saul’s son, had a son who was lame in his feet. He was five years old when the news came about Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel; and his nurse picked him up and fled. As she hurried to flee, he fell and became lame. His name was Mephibosheth.
4:5
וַיֵּ֨לְכ֜וּ בְּנֵֽי־רִמּ֤וֹן הַבְּאֵֽרֹתִי֙ רֵכָ֣ב וּבַעֲנָ֔ה וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ כְּחֹ֣ם הַיּ֔וֹם אֶל־בֵּ֖ית אִ֣ישׁ בֹּ֑שֶׁת וְה֣וּא שֹׁכֵ֔ב אֵ֖ת מִשְׁכַּ֥ב הַֽצׇּהֳרָֽיִם׃
καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν υἱοὶ Ρεμμων τοῦ Βηρωθαίου Ρεκχα καὶ Βαανα καὶ εἰσῆλθον ἐν τῷ καύματι τῆς ἡμέρας εἰς οἶκον Μεμφιβοσθε καὶ αὐτὸς ἐκάθευδεν ἐν τῇ κοίτῃ τῆς μεσημβρίας
Venientes igitur filii Remmon Berothitae, Rechab et Baana, ingressi sunt fervente die domum Isboseth : qui dormiebat super stratum suum meridie. Et ostiaria domus purgans triticum, obdormivit.
ወሖሩ፡ እልክቱ፡ ደቂቀ፡ ሬሞን፡ ቤሮታዊ፡ ሬቃካ፡ ወበዓም፡ ወቦኡ፡ መዓልት፡ ቀትር፡ ውስተ፡ ቤቱ፡ ለውእቱ፡ ኢያቡስቴ፡ ወውእቱሰ፡ ውስተ፡ ዐራቱ፡ ይነውም፡ መዓልተ፡ ጊዜ፡ ቀትር።
The sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, went out and came at about the heat of the day to the house of Ishbosheth as he took his rest at noon.
4:6
וְ֠הֵנָּ֠ה בָּ֜אוּ עַד־תּ֤וֹךְ הַבַּ֙יִת֙ לֹקְחֵ֣י חִטִּ֔ים וַיַּכֻּ֖הוּ אֶל־הַחֹ֑מֶשׁ וְרֵכָ֛ב וּבַעֲנָ֥ה אָחִ֖יו נִמְלָֽטוּ׃
καὶ ἰδοὺ ἡ θυρωρὸς τοῦ οἴκου ἐκάθαιρεν πυροὺς καὶ ἐνύσταξεν καὶ ἐκάθευδεν καὶ Ρεκχα καὶ Βαανα οἱ ἀδελφοὶ διέλαθον
Ingressi sunt autem domum latenter assumentes spicas tritici, et percusserunt eum in inguine Rechab, et Baana frater ejus, et fugerunt.
ወዐፀወ፡ ኆኅተ፡ ወየአሪ፡ ሥርናየ፡ ወደቀሰ፡ ወኖመ፡ ወቦኡ፡ ሬቃካ፡ ወበዓም፡ ጽሚተ፡ ውስተ፡ ቤተ፡ ኢያቡስቴ፡
They came there into the middle of the house as though they would have fetched wheat, and they struck him in the body; and Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped.
4:7
וַיָּבֹ֣אוּ הַבַּ֗יִת וְהֽוּא־שֹׁכֵ֤ב עַל־מִטָּתוֹ֙ בַּחֲדַ֣ר מִשְׁכָּב֔וֹ וַיַּכֻּ֙הוּ֙ וַיְמִתֻ֔הוּ וַיָּסִ֖ירוּ אֶת־רֹאשׁ֑וֹ וַיִּקְחוּ֙ אֶת־רֹאשׁ֔וֹ וַיֵּ֥לְכ֛וּ דֶּ֥רֶךְ הָעֲרָבָ֖ה כׇּל־הַלָּֽיְלָה׃
καὶ εἰσῆλθον εἰς τὸν οἶκον καὶ Μεμφιβοσθε ἐκάθευδεν ἐπὶ τῆς κλίνης αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ κοιτῶνι αὐτοῦ καὶ τύπτουσιν αὐτὸν καὶ θανατοῦσιν καὶ ἀφαιροῦσιν τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔλαβον τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀπῆλθον ὁδὸν τὴν κατὰ δυσμὰς ὅλην τὴν νύκτα
Cum autem ingressi fuissent domum, ille dormiebat super lectum suum in conclavi, et percutientes interfecerunt eum : sublatoque capite ejus, abierunt per viam deserti tota nocte,
ወኢያቡስቴሰ፡ ይነውም፡ ውስተ፡ ምስካቡ፡ ውስተ፡ ጽርሑ፡ ወረገዝዎ፡ ወቀተልዎ፡ ወመተሩ፡ ርእሶ፡ ወነሥኡ፡ ርእሶ፡ ወሖሩ፡ ፍኖቶሙ፡ መንገለ፡ ዐረብ፡ ኵላ፡ ይእተ፡ ሌሊተ።
Now when they came into the house as he lay on his bed in his bedroom, they struck him, killed him, beheaded him, and took his head, and went by the way of the Arabah all night.
4:8
וַ֠יָּבִ֠אוּ אֶת־רֹ֨אשׁ אִֽישׁ־בֹּ֥שֶׁת אֶל־דָּוִד֮ חֶבְרוֹן֒ וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ אֶל־הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ הִנֵּה־רֹ֣אשׁ אִֽישׁ־בֹּ֗שֶׁת בֶּן־שָׁאוּל֙ אֹֽיִבְךָ֔ אֲשֶׁ֥ר בִּקֵּ֖שׁ אֶת־נַפְשֶׁ֑ךָ וַיִּתֵּ֣ן יְ֠הֹוָ֠ה לַאדֹנִ֨י הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ נְקָמוֹת֙ הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה מִשָּׁא֖וּל וּמִזַּרְעֽוֹ׃
καὶ ἤνεγκαν τὴν κεφαλὴν Μεμφιβοσθε τῷ Δαυιδ εἰς Χεβρων καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα ἰδοὺ ἡ κεφαλὴ Μεμφιβοσθε υἱοῦ Σαουλ τοῦ ἐχθροῦ σου ὃς ἐζήτει τὴν ψυχήν σου καὶ ἔδωκεν κύριος τῷ κυρίῳ βασιλεῖ ἐκδίκησιν τῶν ἐχθρῶν αὐτοῦ ὡς ἡ ἡμέρα αὕτη ἐκ Σαουλ τοῦ ἐχθροῦ σου καὶ ἐκ τοῦ σπέρματος αὐτοῦ
et attulerunt caput Isboseth ad David in Hebron : dixeruntque ad regem : Ecce caput Isboseth filii Saul inimici tui, qui quaerebat animam tuam : et dedit Dominus domino meo regi ultionem hodie de Saul, et de semine ejus.
ወወሰዱ፡ ሎቱ፡ ለዳዊት፡ ርእሶ፡ ለኢያቡስቴ፡ በኬብሮን፡ ወይቤልዎ፡ ለንጉሥ፡ ናሁ፡ ርእሱ፡ ለኢያቡስቴ፡ ወልደ፡ ሳኦል፡ ጸላኢከ፡ ዘኀሠሣ፡ ለነፍስከ፡ ወወሀቦ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ለእግዚእነ፡ ለንጉሥ፡ በቀለ፡ እምነ፡ ፀሩ፡ በዛቲ፡ ዕለት፡ እምነ፡ ሳኦል፡ ጸላኢከ፡ ወእምነ፡ ዘርኡ።
They brought the head of Ishbosheth to David to Hebron, and said to the king, “Behold, the head of Ishbosheth, the son of Saul, your enemy, who sought your life! Yahweh has avenged my lord the king today of Saul and of his offspring. ”
4:9
וַיַּ֨עַן דָּוִ֜ד אֶת־רֵכָ֣ב׀ וְאֶת־בַּעֲנָ֣ה אָחִ֗יו בְּנֵ֛י רִמּ֥וֹן הַבְּאֵרֹתִ֖י וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לָהֶ֑ם חַי־יְהֹוָ֕ה אֲשֶׁר־פָּדָ֥ה אֶת־נַפְשִׁ֖י מִכׇּל־צָרָֽה׃
καὶ ἀπεκρίθη Δαυιδ τῷ Ρεκχα καὶ τῷ Βαανα ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ υἱοῖς Ρεμμων τοῦ Βηρωθαίου καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ζῇ κύριος ὃς ἐλυτρώσατο τὴν ψυχήν μου ἐκ πάσης θλίψεως
Respondens autem David Rechab, et Baana fratri ejus, filiis Remmon Berothitae, dixit ad eos : Vivit Dominus, qui eruit animam meam de omni angustia,
ወአውሥኦሙ፡ ዳዊት፡ ለሬቃካ፡ ወለበዓም፡ እኁሁ፡ ደቂቀ፡ ሬሞን፡ ቤሮታዊ፡ ወይቤሎሙ፡ ሕያው፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ዘቤዘዋ፡ ለነፍስየ፡ እምነ፡ ኵሉ፡ ምንዳቤየ ፤
David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said to them, “As Yahweh lives, who has redeemed my soul out of all adversity,
4:10
כִּ֣י הַמַּגִּיד֩ לִ֨י לֵאמֹ֜ר הִנֵּה־מֵ֣ת שָׁא֗וּל וְהֽוּא־הָיָ֤ה כִמְבַשֵּׂר֙ בְּעֵינָ֔יו וָאֹחֲזָ֣ה ב֔וֹ וָאֶהְרְגֵ֖הוּ בְּצִֽקְלָ֑ג אֲשֶׁ֥ר לְתִתִּי־ל֖וֹ בְּשֹׂרָֽה׃
ὅτι ὁ ἀπαγγείλας μοι ὅτι τέθνηκεν Σαουλ καὶ αὐτὸς ἦν ὡς εὐαγγελιζόμενος ἐνώπιόν μου καὶ κατέσχον αὐτὸν καὶ ἀπέκτεινα ἐν Σεκελακ ᾧ ἔδει με δοῦναι εὐαγγέλια
quoniam eum qui annuntiaverat mihi, et dixerat : Mortuus est Saul : qui putabat se prospera nuntiare, tenui, et occidi eum in Siceleg, cui oportebat mercedem dare pro nuntio.
ከመ፡ ዘዜነወኒ፡ ከመ፡ ሞተ፡ ሳኦል፡ ዘውእቱ፡ ነገረኒ፡ በቅድሜየ፡ ከመ፡ አኀዝክዎ፡ ወቀተልክዎ፡ በሰቄላቅ፡ ለዝንቱ፡ ዘእምወሀብክዎ፡ ዐስበ፡ ዜናሁ።
when someone told me, ‘Behold, Saul is dead,’ thinking that he brought good news, I seized him and killed him in Ziklag, which was the reward I gave him for his news.
4:11
אַ֞ף כִּֽי־אֲנָשִׁ֣ים רְשָׁעִ֗ים הָרְג֧וּ אֶת־אִישׁ־צַדִּ֛יק בְּבֵית֖וֹ עַל־מִשְׁכָּב֑וֹ וְעַתָּ֗ה הֲל֨וֹא אֲבַקֵּ֤שׁ אֶת־דָּמוֹ֙ מִיֶּדְכֶ֔ם וּבִעַרְתִּ֥י אֶתְכֶ֖ם מִן־הָאָֽרֶץ׃
καὶ νῦν ἄνδρες πονηροὶ ἀπεκτάγκασιν ἄνδρα δίκαιον ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τῆς κοίτης αὐτοῦ καὶ νῦν ἐκζητήσω τὸ αἷμα αὐτοῦ ἐκ χειρὸς ὑμῶν καὶ ἐξολεθρεύσω ὑμᾶς ἐκ τῆς γῆς
Quanto magis nunc cum homines impii interfecerunt virum innoxium in domo sua, super lectum suum, non quaeram sanguinem ejus de manu vestra, et auferam vos de terra ?
ወይእዜኒ፡ አንትሙ፡ ዕደው፡ እኩያን፡ ቀተልክሙ፡ ብእሴ፡ ጻድቀ፡ በውስተ፡ ቤቱ፡ ወበውስት፡ ምስካቡ፡ ወይእዜኒ፡ እትኀሠሦ፡ ለደሙ፡ እምነ፡ እዴክሙ፡ ወእሤርወክሙ፡ እምነ፡ ምድር።
How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house on his bed, should I not now require his blood from your hand, and rid the earth of you?”
4:12
וַיְצַו֩ דָּוִ֨ד אֶת־הַנְּעָרִ֜ים וַיַּהַרְג֗וּם וַֽיְקַצְּצ֤וּ אֶת־יְדֵיהֶם֙ וְאֶת־רַגְלֵיהֶ֔ם וַיִּתְל֥וּ עַל־הַבְּרֵכָ֖ה בְּחֶבְר֑וֹן וְאֵ֨ת רֹ֤אשׁ אִֽישׁ־בֹּ֙שֶׁת֙ לָקָ֔חוּ וַיִּקְבְּר֥וּ בְקֶבֶר־אַבְנֵ֖ר בְּחֶבְרֽוֹן׃ {פ}
καὶ ἐνετείλατο Δαυιδ τοῖς παιδαρίοις αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀποκτέννουσιν αὐτοὺς καὶ κολοβοῦσιν τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς πόδας αὐτῶν καὶ ἐκρέμασαν αὐτοὺς ἐπὶ τῆς κρήνης ἐν Χεβρων καὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν Μεμφιβοσθε ἔθαψαν ἐν τῷ τάφῳ Αβεννηρ υἱοῦ Νηρ
Praecepit itaque David pueris suis, et interfecerunt eos : praecidentesque manus et pedes eorum, suspenderunt eos super piscinam in Hebron : caput autem Isboseth tulerunt, et sepelierunt in sepulchro Abner in Hebron.
ወአዘዞሙ፡ ዳዊት፡ ለደቁ፡ ወቀተልዎሙ፡ ወመተርዎሙ፡ እደዊሆሙ፡ ወእገሪሆሙ፡ ወሰቀሉ፡ ውስተ፡ ዕፀ፡ ኬብሮን፡ ወርእሰ፡ ኢያቡስቴሰ፡ ቀበሩ፡ ውስት፡ መቃብረ፡ አቤኔር፡ ወልደ፡ ኔር።
David commanded his young men, and they killed them, cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up beside the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ishbosheth and buried it in Abner’s grave in Hebron.
