2:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ Σὺ οὖν , τέκνον μου , ἐνδυναμοῦ ἐν τῇ χάριτι τῇ ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ ,
Tu ergo fili mi , confortare in gratia , quae est in Christo Jesu :
ወአንተኒ ወልድየ ጽናዕ በጸጋሁ ለእግዚእነ ኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ።
You therefore, my child, be strengthened in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἃ ἤκουσας παρ’ ἐμοῦ διὰ πολλῶν μαρτύρων , ταῦτα παράθου πιστοῖς ἀνθρώποις , οἵτινες ἱκανοὶ ἔσονται καὶ ἑτέρους διδάξαι .
et quae audisti a me per multos testes , haec commenda fidelibus hominibus , qui idonei erant et alios docere .
ወዘሰማዕከ በላዕሌየ በኀበ ብዙኃን ሰማዕት ኪያሁ መሀሮሙ ለመሃይምናን ሰብእ እለ ይደልዎሙ ከመ ይምሀሩ ለባዕዳን ።
The things which you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit the same things to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
2:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ συνκακοπάθησον ὡς καλὸς στρατιώτης Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ .
Labora sicut bonus miles Christi Jesu .
ወጻሙ ከመ ኄር መስተጋድል ላእከ ኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ።
You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
2:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ οὐδεὶς στρατευόμενος ἐμπλέκεται ταῖς τοῦ βίου πραγματείαις , ἵνα τῷ στρατολογήσαντι ἀρέσῃ ·
Nemo militans Deo implicat se negotiis saecularibus : ut ei placeat , cui se probavit .
እስመ አልቦ ዘይትቃተል ወይኄሊ ንብረተ ዝ ዓለም ዘእንበለ ከመ ያድሉ ለዘሤሞ ።
No soldier on duty entangles himself in the affairs of life, that he may please him who enrolled him as a soldier.
2:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐὰν δὲ καὶ ἀθλῇ τις , οὐ στεφανοῦται ἐὰν μὴ νομίμως ἀθλήσῃ .
Nam et qui certat in agone , non coronatur nisi legitime certaverit .
መስተጋድልኒ ኢይከውኖ ምዝጋና ለእመ በሕጉ ኢተጋደለ ።
Also, if anyone competes in athletics, he isn’t crowned unless he has competed by the rules.
2:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ τὸν κοπιῶντα γεωργὸν δεῖ πρῶτον τῶν καρπῶν μεταλαμβάνειν .
Laborantem agricolam oportet primum de fructibus percipere .
ወዘኒ ይጻሙ ሐረሳዊ ግብረ ይቀድም ረኪበ ፍሬሁ ።
The farmer who labors must be the first to get a share of the crops.
2:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ νόει ὃ λέγω · δώσει γάρ σοι ὁ κύριος σύνεσιν ἐν πᾶσιν .
Intellige quae dico : dabit enim tibi Dominus in omnibus intellectum .
ወለቡ ዘእቤለከ የሀብከ እግዚአብሔር ጥበበ በኵሉ ።
Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all things.
2:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ Μνημόνευε Ἰησοῦν Χριστὸν ἐγηγερμένον ἐκ νεκρῶν , ἐκ σπέρματος Δαυείδ , κατὰ τὸ εὐαγγέλιόν μου ·
Memor esto Dominum Jesum Christum resurrexisse a mortuis ex semine David , secundum Evangelium meum ,
ተዘከሮ ለኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ዘተንሥአ እምዉታን ዘእምዘርዐ ዳዊት ዘመሀርኩ በስሙ ።
Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, of the offspring of David, according to my Good News,
2:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐν ᾧ κακοπαθῶ μέχρι δεσμῶν ὡς κακοῦργος , ἀλλὰ ὁ λόγος τοῦ θεοῦ οὐ δέδεται .
in quo laboro usque ad vincula , quasi male operans : sed verbum Dei non est alligatum .
ዘበእንቲኣሁ እሰርሕ ወእትሞቃሕ ከመ ጕሕልያ ወባሕቱ ቃለ እግዚአብሔርሰ ኢይትአሰር ።
in which I suffer hardship to the point of chains as a criminal. But God’s word isn’t chained.
2:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ διὰ τοῦτο πάντα ὑπομένω διὰ τοὺς ἐκλεκτούς , ἵνα καὶ αὐτοὶ σωτηρίας τύχωσιν τῆς ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ μετὰ δόξης αἰωνίου .
Ideo omnia sustineo propter electos , ut et ipsi salutem consequantur , quae est in Christo Jesu , cum gloria caelesti .
ወበእንተዝ እትዔገሥ በኵሉ በእንተ ኅሩያኒሁ ከመ እሙንቱሂ ይርከቡ ሕይወተ ዘበኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ወስብሐተ ዘለዓለም ዘበሰማያት ።
Therefore I endure all things for the chosen ones’ sake, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
2:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ Πιστὸς ὁ λόγος · εἰ γὰρ συναπεθάνομεν , καὶ συζήσομεν ·
Fidelis sermo : nam si commortui sumus , et convivemus :
እሙን ነገር እምከመ ዐረይነ መዊተ ንዔሪ ሕይወተ ።
This saying is trustworthy: “For if we died with him, we will also live with him.
2:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἰ ὑπομένομεν , καὶ συμβασιλεύσομεν · εἰ ἀρνησόμεθα , κἀκεῖνος ἀρνήσεται ἡμᾶς ·
si sustinebimus , et conregnabimus : si negaverimus , et ille negabit nos :
ወእምከመ ዐረይነ ትዕግሥተ ንዔሪ ነጊሠ ወእመሰ ክሕድናሁ ውእቱኒ ይክሕደነ ።
If we endure, we will also reign with him. If we deny him, he also will deny us.
2:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἰ ἀπιστοῦμεν , ἐκεῖνος πιστὸς μένει , ἀρνήσασθαι γὰρ ἑαυτὸν οὐ δύναται .
si non credimus , ille fidelis permanet , negare seipsum non potest .
ወእመኒ ኢአመናሁ ውእቱሰ ምእመነ ይነብር ወኢይክል ክሒደ ርእሶ ።
If we are faithless, he remains faithful; for he can’t deny himself.”
2:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ταῦτα ὑπομίμνῃσκε , διαμαρτυρόμενος ἐνώπιον τοῦ θεοῦ μὴ λογομαχεῖν , ἐπ’ οὐδὲν χρήσιμον , ἐπὶ καταστροφῇ τῶν ἀκουόντων .
Haec commone , testificans coram Domino . Noli contendere verbis : ad nihil enim utile est , nisi ad subversionem audientium .
ከመዝ ዘክሮሙ ወአስምዕ ቅድመ እግዚአብሔር ወኢትትላኰይ በግብር ዘኢይበቍዕ በዘይትገፈትዑ እለ ይሰምዑ ።
Remind them of these things, charging them in the sight of the Lord that they don’t argue about words to no profit, to the subverting of those who hear.
2:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ σπούδασον σεαυτὸν δόκιμον παραστῆσαι τῷ θεῷ , ἐργάτην ἀνεπαίσχυντον , ὀρθοτομοῦντα τὸν λόγον τῆς ἀληθείας .
Sollicite cura teipsum probabilem exhibere Deo , operarium inconfusibilem , recte tractantem verbum veritatis .
አስተፋጥን ከመ ትረሲ ርእሰከ ኅሩየ ለኀበ እግዚአብሔር ከመ ገባራዊ ዘኢይትኀፈር ዘርቱዐ ይመትር ቃለ እግዚአብሔር በጽድቅ ።
Give diligence to present yourself approved by God, a workman who doesn’t need to be ashamed, properly handling the Word of Truth.
2:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ τὰς δὲ βεβήλους κενοφωνίας περιΐστασο · ἐπὶ πλεῖον γὰρ προκόψουσιν ἀσεβείας ,
Profana autem et vaniloquia devita : multum enim proficiunt ad impietatem :
ወለነገረ ርኩሳንሰ ዘአልቦ ባቍዕ እበዮ እስመ ያአብይዋ ለኀጢአቶሙ ።
But shun empty chatter, for it will go further in ungodliness,
2:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ὁ λόγος αὐτῶν ὡς γάγγραινα νομὴν ἕξει · ὧν ἐστιν Ὑμέναιος καὶ Φίλητος ,
et sermo eorum ut cancer serpit : ex quibus est Hymenaeus et Philetus ,
ወነገሮሙኒ ከንቱ ከመ ዘይትረአይ ወይልህቅ በብዙኃን እለ ሄሜኔዎስ ወፊሎጦስ ።
and those words will consume like gangrene, of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus:
2:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ οἵτινες περὶ τὴν ἀλήθειαν ἠστόχησαν , λέγοντες ἀνάστασιν ἤδη γεγονέναι , καὶ ἀνατρέπουσιν τήν τινων πίστιν .
qui a veritate exciderunt , dicentes resurrectionem esse jam factam , et subverterunt quorumdam fidem .
እለ አውከኩ እምጽድቅ ወይብሉ ወድአ ኮነ ትንሣኤ ምዉታን ወይገፈትዑ ሃይማኖቶሙ ለብዙኃን ።
men who have erred concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past, and overthrowing the faith of some.
2:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὁ μέντοι στερεὸς θεμέλιος τοῦ θεοῦ ἕστηκεν , ἔχων τὴν σφραγῖδα ταύτην · ἔγνω κύριος τοὺς ὄντας αὐτοῦ , καί , ἀποστήτω ἀπὸ ἀδικίας πᾶς ὁ ὀνομάζων τὸ ὄνομα κυρίου .
Sed firmum fundamentum Dei stat , habens signaculum hoc : cognovit Dominus qui sunt ejus , et discedat ab iniquitate omnis qui nominat nomen Domini .
ወዘሰ ጽኑዕ በመሠረተ እግዚአብሔር ይቀውም እንዘ ቦ ዝንቱ ማዕተብ ወየአምሮሙ እግዚአብሔር ለእሊኣሁ ወይርኅቅ እምዐመፃ ኵሉ ዘይሰሚ ስመ እግዚአብሔር ።
However, God’s firm foundation stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let every one who names the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness.”
2:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐν μεγάλῃ δὲ οἰκίᾳ οὐκ ἔστιν μόνον σκεύη χρυσᾶ καὶ ἀργυρᾶ ἀλλὰ καὶ ξύλινα καὶ ὀστράκινα , καὶ ἃ μὲν εἰς τιμὴν ἃ δὲ εἰς ἀτιμίαν ·
In magna autem domo non solum sunt vasa aurea , et argentea , sed et lignea , et fictilia : et quaedam quidem in honorem , quaedam autem in contumeliam .
ውስተ ቤትኒ ዐቢይ አኮ ባሕቲቱ ንዋየ ወርቅ ወብሩር ዓዲ ቦ ዘዕፅኒ ወዘልሕኵትኒ ቦ ዘለክብርኒ ወቦ ዘለኀሣርኒ ።
Now in a large house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of clay. Some are for honor and some for dishonor.
2:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐὰν οὖν τις ἐκκαθάρῃ ἑαυτὸν ἀπὸ τούτων , ἔσται σκεῦος εἰς τιμήν , ἡγιασμένον , εὔχρηστον τῷ δεσπότῃ , εἰς πᾶν ἔργον ἀγαθὸν ἡτοιμασμένον .
Si quis ergo emundaverit se ab istis , erit vas in honorem sanctificatum , et utile Domino ad omne opus bonum paratum .
ወእመቦ ዘአንጽሐ ርእሶ እምዝ እኩይ ይከውን ንዋየ ክብር ቅዱሰ ወባቍዐ ለመልእክተ እግዚኡ ወድልወ ለኵሉ ምግባረ ሠናይ ።
If anyone therefore purges himself from these, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, and suitable for the master’s use, prepared for every good work.
2:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ τὰς δὲ νεωτερικὰς ἐπιθυμίας φεῦγε , δίωκε δὲ δικαιοσύνην , πίστιν , ἀγάπην , εἰρήνην μετὰ τῶν ἐπικαλουμένων τὸν κύριον ἐκ καθαρᾶς καρδίας .
Juvenilia autem desideria fuge , sectare vero justitiam , fidem , spem , caritatem , et pacem cum iis qui invocant Dominum de corde puro .
ጕየያ ለፍትወተ ውርዙት ወዴግና ለጽድቅ ወለሃይማኖት ተፋቅሮ ወሰላም ምስለ ኵሎሙ እለ ይጼውዕዎ ለእግዚአብሔር በልብ ንጹሕ ።
Flee from youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
2:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ τὰς δὲ μωρὰς καὶ ἀπαιδεύτους ζητήσεις παραιτοῦ , εἰδὼς ὅτι γεννῶσιν μάχας ·
Stultas autem et sine disciplina quaestiones devita : sciens quia generant lites .
እበዮ ለነገረ እበድ ፥ ወሥላቅ ወተኃሥሦ ከንቱ ተአምር ከመ መንሱተ ያመጽእ ።
But refuse foolish and ignorant questionings, knowing that they generate strife.
2:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ δοῦλον δὲ κυρίου οὐ δεῖ μάχεσθαι , ἀλλὰ ἤπιον εἶναι πρὸς πάντας , διδακτικόν , ἀνεξίκακον ,
Servum autem Domini non oportet litigare : sed mansuetum esse ad omnes , docibilem , patientem ,
ወገብረ እግዚአብሔርሰ ኢይትገዐዝ አላ ከመ ሕፃን የዋሀ ይከውን ምስለ ኵሉ ወመምህረ ወመስተዐግሠ እምኵሉ ።
The Lord’s servant must not quarrel, but be gentle toward all, able to teach, patient,
2:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐν πραΰτητι παιδεύοντα τοὺς ἀντιδιατιθεμένους , μήποτε δώῃ αὐτοῖς ὁ θεὸς μετάνοιαν εἰς ἐπίγνωσιν ἀληθείας ,
cum modestia corripientem eos qui resistunt veritati , nequando Deus det illis poenitentiam ad cognoscendam veritatem ,
ወይጌሥጽ በየውሀት ለእለ ይትቃረኑ እመቦ ከመ የሀቦሙ እግዚአብሔር ይነስሑ ወያእምርዎ ለጽድቅ ።
in gentleness correcting those who oppose him. Perhaps God may give them repentance leading to a full knowledge of the truth,
2:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἀνανήψωσιν ἐκ τῆς τοῦ διαβόλου παγίδος , ἐζωγρημένοι ὑπ’ αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸ ἐκείνου θέλημα .
et resipiscant a diaboli laqueis , a quo captivi tenentur ad ipsius voluntatem .
ወያንቅሁ ነፍሶሙ እመሥገርተ ሰይጣን እስመ ወድአ አሥገሮሙ ለተሊወ ፈቃዱ ።
and they may recover themselves out of the devil’s snare, having been taken captive by him to do his will.
