9:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ כִּ֣י אֶת ־כׇּל ־זֶ֞ה נָתַ֤תִּי אֶל ־לִבִּי֙ וְלָב֣וּר אֶת ־כׇּל ־זֶ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר הַצַּדִּיקִ֧ים וְהַחֲכָמִ֛ים וַעֲבָדֵיהֶ֖ם בְּיַ֣ד הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים גַּֽם ־אַהֲבָ֣ה גַם ־שִׂנְאָ֗ה אֵ֤ין יוֹדֵ֙עַ֙ הָֽאָדָ֔ם הַכֹּ֖ל לִפְנֵיהֶֽם ׃
ὅτι σὺν πᾶν τοῦτο ἔδωκα εἰς καρδίαν μου καὶ καρδία μου σὺν πᾶν εἶδεν τοῦτο ὡς οἱ δίκαιοι καὶ οἱ σοφοὶ καὶ ἐργασίαι αὐτῶν ἐν χειρὶ τοῦ θεοῦ καί γε ἀγάπην καί γε μῖσος οὐκ ἔστιν εἰδὼς ὁ ἄνθρωπος τὰ πάντα πρὸ προσώπου αὐτῶν
Omnia haec tractavi in corde meo , ut curiose intelligerem . Sunt justi atque sapientes , et opera eorum in manu Dei ; et tamen nescit homo utrum amore an odio dignus sit .
እስመ ፡ ኅቡረ ፡ ዘንተ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ወሀብኩ ፡ ልብየ ፡ ወልብየ ፡ ዘንተ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ርእየት ፡ ከመ ፡ ለጻድቃን ፡ ወለጠቢባን ፡ ምግባሮሙ ፡ ውስተ ፡ እደ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ፍቅረ ፡ ወጽልአ ፡ አልቦ ፡ ዘየአምር ፡ ሰብእ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ቅድመ ፡ ገጾሙ ፡ ወከንቱ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ኵሉ ።
For all this I laid to my heart, even to explore all this: that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God; whether it is love or hatred, man doesn’t know it; all is before them.
9:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ הַכֹּ֞ל כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר לַכֹּ֗ל מִקְרֶ֨ה אֶחָ֜ד לַצַּדִּ֤יק וְלָרָשָׁע֙ לַטּוֹב֙ וְלַטָּה֣וֹר וְלַטָּמֵ֔א וְלַ֨זֹּבֵ֔חַ וְלַאֲשֶׁ֖ר אֵינֶ֣נּוּ זֹבֵ֑חַ כַּטּוֹב֙ כַּֽחֹטֶ֔א הַנִּשְׁבָּ֕ע כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר שְׁבוּעָ֥ה יָרֵֽא ׃
ματαιότης ἐν τοῖς πᾶσιν συνάντημα ἓν τῷ δικαίῳ καὶ τῷ ἀσεβεῖ τῷ ἀγαθῷ καὶ τῷ κακῷ καὶ τῷ καθαρῷ καὶ τῷ ἀκαθάρτῳ καὶ τῷ θυσιάζοντι καὶ τῷ μὴ θυσιάζοντι ὡς ὁ ἀγαθός ὧς ὁ ἁμαρτάνων ὧς ὁ ὀμνύων καθὼς ὁ τὸν ὅρκον φοβούμενος
Sed omnia in futurum servantur incerta , eo quod universa aeque eveniant justo et impio , bono et malo , mundo et immundo , immolanti victimas et sacrificia contemnenti . Sicut bonus , sic et peccator ; ut perjurus , ita et ille qui verum dejerat .
ወአሐዱ ፡ ድድቁ ፡ ለጻድቅ ፡ ወለረሲዕ ፡ ለኄር ፡ ወለእኩይ ፡ ለርኩስ ፡ ወለንጹሕ ፡ ለዘይሠውዕ ፡ ወለዘኢይሠውዕ ፡ ለኄር ፡ ወለዘሂ ፡ የኃጥእ ፡ ለዘይምሕል ፡ ወለዘሂ ፡ ይፈርህ ፡ መሐላ ።
All things come alike to all. There is one event to the righteous and to the wicked; to the good, to the clean, to the unclean, to him who sacrifices, and to him who doesn’t sacrifice. As is the good, so is the sinner; he who takes an oath, as he who fears an oath.
9:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ זֶ֣ה ׀ רָ֗ע בְּכֹ֤ל אֲשֶֽׁר ־נַעֲשָׂה֙ תַּ֣חַת הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ כִּֽי ־מִקְרֶ֥ה אֶחָ֖ד לַכֹּ֑ל וְגַ֣ם לֵ֣ב בְּֽנֵי ־הָ֠אָדָ֠ם מָלֵא ־רָ֨ע וְהוֹלֵל֤וֹת בִּלְבָבָם֙ בְּחַיֵּיהֶ֔ם וְאַחֲרָ֖יו אֶל ־הַמֵּתִֽים ׃
τοῦτο πονηρὸν ἐν παντὶ πεποιημένῳ ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον ὅτι συνάντημα ἓν τοῖς πᾶσιν καί γε καρδία υἱῶν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐπληρώθη πονηροῦ καὶ περιφέρεια ἐν καρδίᾳ αὐτῶν ἐν ζωῇ αὐτῶν καὶ ὀπίσω αὐτῶν πρὸς τοὺς νεκρούς
Hoc est pessimum inter omnia quae sub sole fiunt : quia eadem cunctis eveniunt . Unde et corda filiorum hominum implentur malitia et contemptu in vita sua , et post haec ad inferos deducentur .
ዝክቱ ፡ በኵሉ ፡ ዘተገብረ ፡ መትሕተ ፡ ፀሐይ ፡ እስመ ፡ አሐዱ ፡ ድድቁ ፡ ለኵሉ ፡ ወልቦሙ ፡ ለውሉደ ፡ ሰብእ ፡ ትፌጽም ፡ እኩየ ፡ ወበሁከተ ፡ ልቦሙ ፡ ሕይወቶሙ ፡ ወእምድኅሬሆሙ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ምውታን ።
This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one event to all. Yes also, the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.
9:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ כִּי ־מִי֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר (יבחר ) [יְחֻבַּ֔ר ] אֶ֥ל כׇּל ־הַחַיִּ֖ים יֵ֣שׁ בִּטָּח֑וֹן כִּֽי ־לְכֶ֤לֶב חַי֙ ה֣וּא ט֔וֹב מִן ־הָאַרְיֵ֖ה הַמֵּֽת ׃
ὅτι τίς ὃς κοινωνεῖ πρὸς πάντας τοὺς ζῶντας ἔστιν ἐλπίς ὅτι ὁ κύων ὁ ζῶν αὐτὸς ἀγαθὸς ὑπὲρ τὸν λέοντα τὸν νεκρόν
Nemo est qui semper vivat , et qui hujus rei habeat fiduciam ; melior est canis vivus leone mortuo .
እስመ ፡ መኑ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ዘይሳተፍ ፡ ምስለ ፡ ሕያዋን ፡ በተስፋ ፡ ከልብ ፡ ሕያው ፡ ይኄይስ ፡ እምአንበሳ ፡ ምውት ።
For to him who is joined with all the living there is hope; for a living dog is better than a dead lion.
9:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ כִּ֧י הַֽחַיִּ֛ים יוֹדְעִ֖ים שֶׁיָּמֻ֑תוּ וְהַמֵּתִ֞ים אֵינָ֧ם יוֹדְעִ֣ים מְא֗וּמָה וְאֵֽין ־ע֤וֹד לָהֶם֙ שָׂכָ֔ר כִּ֥י נִשְׁכַּ֖ח זִכְרָֽם ׃
ὅτι οἱ ζῶντες γνώσονται ὅτι ἀποθανοῦνται καὶ οἱ νεκροὶ οὔκ εἰσιν γινώσκοντες οὐδέν καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτοῖς ἔτι μισθός ὅτι ἐπελήσθη ἡ μνήμη αὐτῶν
Viventes enim sciunt se esse morituros ; mortui vero nihil noverunt amplius , nec habent ultra mercedem , quia oblivioni tradita est memoria eorum .
እስመ ፡ ሕያዋን ፡ የአምሩ ፡ ከመ ፡ ይመውቱ ፡ ወሙታንሰ ፡ ኢየአምሩ ፡ ወኢምንትኒ ፡ ወአልቦሙ ፡ እንከ ፡ ዓስብ ።
For the living know that they will die, but the dead don’t know anything, neither do they have any more a reward; for their memory is forgotten.
9:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ גַּ֣ם אַהֲבָתָ֧ם גַּם ־שִׂנְאָתָ֛ם גַּם ־קִנְאָתָ֖ם כְּבָ֣ר אָבָ֑דָה וְחֵ֨לֶק אֵין ־לָהֶ֥ם עוֹד֙ לְעוֹלָ֔ם בְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶֽׁר ־נַעֲשָׂ֖ה תַּ֥חַת הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ ׃
καί γε ἀγάπη αὐτῶν καί γε μῖσος αὐτῶν καί γε ζῆλος αὐτῶν ἤδη ἀπώλετο καὶ μερὶς οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτοῖς ἔτι εἰς αἰῶνα ἐν παντὶ τῷ πεποιημένῳ ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον
Amor quoque , et odium , et invidiae simul perierunt ; nec habent partem in hoc saeculo , et in opere quod sub sole geritur .
እስመዝክሮሙ ፡ ወፍቅሮሙ ፡ ወጽልኦሙኒ ፡ ወቅንአቶሙኒ ፡ ናሁ ፡ ተኃጒለ ፡ ወመክፈልት ፡ አልቦሙ ፡ እንከ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ዓለም ፡ በኵሉ ፡ ዘተገብረ ፡ መትሕተ ፡ ፀሐይ ።
Also their love, their hatred, and their envy has perished long ago; neither do they any longer have a portion forever in anything that is done under the sun.
9:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ לֵ֣ךְ אֱכֹ֤ל בְּשִׂמְחָה֙ לַחְמֶ֔ךָ וּֽשְׁתֵ֥ה בְלֶב ־ט֖וֹב יֵינֶ֑ךָ כִּ֣י כְבָ֔ר רָצָ֥ה הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים אֶֽת ־מַעֲשֶֽׂיךָ ׃
δεῦρο φάγε ἐν εὐφροσύνῃ ἄρτον σου καὶ πίε ἐν καρδίᾳ ἀγαθῇ οἶνόν σου ὅτι ἤδη εὐδόκησεν ὁ θεὸς τὰ ποιήματά σου
Vade ergo , et comede in laetitia panem tuum , et bibe cum gaudio vinum tuum , quia Deo placent opera tua .
ነዓ ፡ ብላዕ ፡ በፍሥሓ ፡ ኅብስተከ ፡ ወስተይ ፡ በልብ ፡ ኄር ፡ ወይነከ ፡ እስመ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ሠምረ ፡ ምግባሪከ ።
Go your way—eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart; for God has already accepted your works.
9:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ בְּכׇל ־עֵ֕ת יִהְי֥וּ בְגָדֶ֖יךָ לְבָנִ֑ים וְשֶׁ֖מֶן עַל ־רֹאשְׁךָ֥ אַל ־יֶחְסָֽר ׃
ἐν παντὶ καιρῷ ἔστωσαν ἱμάτιά σου λευκά καὶ ἔλαιον ἐπὶ κεφαλήν σου μὴ ὑστερησάτω
Omni tempore sint vestimenta tua candida , et oleum de capite tuo non deficiat .
በኵሉ ፡ ጊዜ ፡ ይኩን ፡ ንጹሐ ፡ አልባሲከ ፡ ወቀቅብዕ ፡ እምርእስከ ፡ ኢይርኃቅ ።
Let your garments be always white, and don’t let your head lack oil.
9:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ רְאֵ֨ה חַיִּ֜ים עִם ־אִשָּׁ֣ה אֲשֶׁר ־אָהַ֗בְתָּ כׇּל ־יְמֵי֙ חַיֵּ֣י הֶבְלֶ֔ךָ אֲשֶׁ֤ר נָֽתַן ־לְךָ֙ תַּ֣חַת הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ כֹּ֖ל יְמֵ֣י הֶבְלֶ֑ךָ כִּ֣י ה֤וּא חֶלְקְךָ֙ בַּֽחַיִּ֔ים וּבַעֲמָ֣לְךָ֔ אֲשֶׁר ־אַתָּ֥ה עָמֵ֖ל תַּ֥חַת הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ ׃
ἰδὲ ζωὴν μετὰ γυναικός ἧς ἠγάπησας πάσας ἡμέρας ζωῆς ματαιότητός σου τὰς δοθείσας σοι ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον πάσας ἡμέρας ματαιότητός σου ὅτι αὐτὸ μερίς σου ἐν τῇ ζωῇ σου καὶ ἐν τῷ μόχθῳ σου ᾧ σὺ μοχθεῖς ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον
Perfruere vita cum uxore quam diligis , cunctis diebus vitae instabilitatis tuae , qui dati sunt tibi sub sole omni tempore vanitatis tuae : haec est enim pars in vita et in labore tuo quo laboras sub sole .
ወርኢ ፡ ሕይወተ ፡ ምስለ ፡ ብእሲትከ ፡ እንተ ፡ አፍቀርካ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ መዋዕለ ፡ ሕይወትከ ፡ እለ ፡ ተውህባከ ፡ እምታሕተ ፡ ፀሐይ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ መዋዕለ ፡ እለ ፡ ኮና ፡ ለከ ፡ እስመ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ መክፈልትከ ፡ በሕይወትከ ።
Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of your life of vanity, which he has given you under the sun, all your days of vanity, for that is your portion in life, and in your labor in which you labor under the sun.
9:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ כֹּ֠ל אֲשֶׁ֨ר תִּמְצָ֧א יָֽדְךָ֛ לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת בְּכֹחֲךָ֖ עֲשֵׂ֑ה כִּי֩ אֵ֨ין מַעֲשֶׂ֤ה וְחֶשְׁבּוֹן֙ וְדַ֣עַת וְחׇכְמָ֔ה בִּשְׁא֕וֹל אֲשֶׁ֥ר אַתָּ֖ה הֹלֵ֥ךְ שָֽׁמָּה ׃
πάντα ὅσα ἂν εὕρῃ ἡ χείρ σου τοῦ ποιῆσαι ὡς ἡ δύναμίς σου ποίησον ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ποίημα καὶ λογισμὸς καὶ γνῶσις καὶ σοφία ἐν ᾅδῃ ὅπου σὺ πορεύῃ ἐκεῖ
Quodcumque facere potest manus tua , instanter operare , quia nec opus , nec ratio , nec sapientia , nec scientia erunt apud inferos , quo tu properas .
ወበሥራኅከ ፡ ዘትሠርኅ ፡ እምታሕተ ፡ ፀሐይ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ዘትክል ፡ እዴከ ፡ ለገቢር ፡ መጠነ ፡ ኃይልከ ፡ ግበር ፡ እስመ ፡ አልቦ ፡ ግብር ፡ ወሕሊና ፡ ወጥበብ ፡ ወአእምሮ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ገሃነም ፡ ኀበ ፡ ተሐውር ፡ አንተ ፡ ህየ ።
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor plan, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Sheol, where you are going.
9:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ שַׁ֜בְתִּי וְרָאֹ֣ה תַֽחַת ־הַשֶּׁ֗מֶשׁ כִּ֣י לֹא֩ לַקַּלִּ֨ים הַמֵּר֜וֹץ וְלֹ֧א לַגִּבּוֹרִ֣ים הַמִּלְחָמָ֗ה וְ֠גַ֠ם לֹ֣א לַחֲכָמִ֥ים לֶ֙חֶם֙ וְגַ֨ם לֹ֤א לַנְּבֹנִים֙ עֹ֔שֶׁר וְגַ֛ם לֹ֥א לַיֹּדְעִ֖ים חֵ֑ן כִּי ־עֵ֥ת וָפֶ֖גַע יִקְרֶ֥ה אֶת ־כֻּלָּֽם ׃
ἐπέστρεψα καὶ εἶδον ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον ὅτι οὐ τοῖς κούφοις ὁ δρόμος καὶ οὐ τοῖς δυνατοῖς ὁ πόλεμος καί γε οὐ τοῖς σοφοῖς ἄρτος καί γε οὐ τοῖς συνετοῖς πλοῦτος καί γε οὐ τοῖς γινώσκουσιν χάρις ὅτι καιρὸς καὶ ἀπάντημα συναντήσεται τοῖς πᾶσιν αὐτοῖς
Verti me ad aliud , et vidi sub sole nec velocium esse cursum , nec fortium bellum , nec sapientium panem , nec doctorum divitias , nec artificum gratiam ; sed tempus casumque in omnibus .
ወተመየጥኩ ፡ ወርኢኩ ፡ መትሕተ ፡ ፀሐይ ፡ ከመ ፡ አኮ ፡ ለቀሊላን ፡ ረዊዕ ፡ ወአኮ ፡ ለጽኑዓን ፡ ቀትል ፡ ወአኮ ፡ ለጠቢባን ፡ እክል ፡ ወአኮ ፡ ለማእምራን ፡ ብዕል ፡ ወአኮ ፡ ለእለ ፡ ይሴብዉ ፡ ጸጋ ፡ እስመ ፡ ጊዜ ፡ ወድድቅ ፡ ይዳደቆሙ ፡ ለኵሎሙ ።
I returned and saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all.
9:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ כִּ֡י גַּם֩ לֹֽא ־יֵדַ֨ע הָאָדָ֜ם אֶת ־עִתּ֗וֹ כַּדָּגִים֙ שֶׁנֶּֽאֱחָזִים֙ בִּמְצוֹדָ֣ה רָעָ֔ה וְכַ֨צִּפֳּרִ֔ים הָאֲחֻז֖וֹת בַּפָּ֑ח כָּהֵ֗ם יֽוּקָשִׁים֙ בְּנֵ֣י הָֽאָדָ֔ם לְעֵ֣ת רָעָ֔ה כְּשֶׁתִּפּ֥וֹל עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם פִּתְאֹֽם ׃
ὅτι καί γε οὐκ ἔγνω ὁ ἄνθρωπος τὸν καιρὸν αὐτοῦ ὡς οἱ ἰχθύες οἱ θηρευόμενοι ἐν ἀμφιβλήστρῳ κακῷ καὶ ὡς ὄρνεα τὰ θηρευόμενα ἐν παγίδι ὡς αὐτὰ παγιδεύονται οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου εἰς καιρὸν πονηρόν ὅταν ἐπιπέσῃ ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς ἄφνω
Nescit homo finem suum ; sed sicut pisces capiuntur hamo , et sicut aves laqueo comprehenduntur , sic capiuntur homines in tempore malo , cum eis extemplo supervenerit .
እስመ ፡ ኢየአምር ፡ ሰብእ ፡ ጊዜሁ ፡ ከመ ፡ ዓሣት ፡ እለ ፡ ይሠገሩ ፡ በመርበብት ፡ እኩይ ፡ ወከመ ፡ አዕዋፍ ፡ ዘይትአኀዙ ፡ በመሥገርት ፡ ከማሁ ፡ ይሠገሩ ፡ ውሉደ ፡ ሰብእ ፡ በጊዜ ፡ እኩይ ፡ ሶበ ፡ ይወድቅ ፡ ዲቤሆሙ ፡ ግብተ ።
For man also doesn’t know his time. As the fish that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare, even so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falls suddenly on them.
9:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ גַּם ־זֹ֛ה רָאִ֥יתִי חׇכְמָ֖ה תַּ֣חַת הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ וּגְדוֹלָ֥ה הִ֖יא אֵלָֽי ׃
καί γε τοῦτο εἶδον σοφίαν ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον καὶ μεγάλη ἐστὶν πρός με
Hanc quoque sub sole vidi sapientiam , et probavi maximam :
ወናሁ ፡ ዘንተኒ ፡ ርኢኩ ፡ ጥበበ ፡ መትሕተ ፡ ፀሐይ ።
I have also seen wisdom under the sun in this way, and it seemed great to me.
9:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ עִ֣יר קְטַנָּ֔ה וַאֲנָשִׁ֥ים בָּ֖הּ מְעָ֑ט וּבָֽא ־אֵלֶ֜יהָ מֶ֤לֶךְ גָּדוֹל֙ וְסָבַ֣ב אֹתָ֔הּ וּבָנָ֥ה עָלֶ֖יהָ מְצוֹדִ֥ים גְּדֹלִֽים ׃
πόλις μικρὰ καὶ ἄνδρες ἐν αὐτῇ ὀλίγοι καὶ ἔλθῃ ἐπ’ αὐτὴν βασιλεὺς μέγας καὶ κυκλώσῃ αὐτὴν καὶ οἰκοδομήσῃ ἐπ’ αὐτὴν χάρακας μεγάλους
civitas parva , et pauci in ea viri ; venit contra eam rex magnus , et vallavit eam , exstruxitque munitiones per gyrum , et perfecta est obsidio .
ወዓባይ ፡ ይእቲ ፡ በኀቤየ ፡ ሀገር ፡ ነወስቲት ፡ ወሰብእ ፡ እለ ፡ ውስቴታ ፡ ኅዳጣን ፡ ወአመ ፡ መጽአ ፡ ላዕሌሃ ፡ ንጉሥ ፡ ዓቢይ ፡ ወዓገታ ፡ ወየሐንጽ ፡ ላዕሌሃ ፡ ጥቅመ ፡ ዓቢየ ።
There was a little city, and few men within it; and a great king came against it, besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it.
9:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ וּמָ֣צָא בָ֗הּ אִ֤ישׁ מִסְכֵּן֙ חָכָ֔ם וּמִלַּט ־ה֥וּא אֶת ־הָעִ֖יר בְּחׇכְמָת֑וֹ וְאָדָם֙ לֹ֣א זָכַ֔ר אֶת ־הָאִ֥ישׁ הַמִּסְכֵּ֖ן הַהֽוּא ׃
καὶ εὕρῃ ἐν αὐτῇ ἄνδρα πένητα σοφόν καὶ διασώσει αὐτὸς τὴν πόλιν ἐν τῇ σοφίᾳ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἄνθρωπος οὐκ ἐμνήσθη σὺν τοῦ ἀνδρὸς τοῦ πένητος ἐκείνου
Inventusque est in ea vir pauper et sapiens , et liberavit urbem per sapientiam suam ; et nullus deinceps recordatus est hominis illius pauperis .
ወረከበ ፡ በውስቴታ ፡ ብእሴ ፡ ጠቢበ ፡ ወነዳየ ፡ ወያድኅን ፡ ሀገረ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ በጥበቡ ፡ ወአልቦ ፡ ዘተዘከሮ ፡ ሰብእ ፡ ኅቡረ ፡ ለውእቱ ፡ ብእሲ ።
Now a poor wise man was found in it, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.
9:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְאָמַ֣רְתִּי אָ֔נִי טוֹבָ֥ה חׇכְמָ֖ה מִגְּבוּרָ֑ה וְחׇכְמַ֤ת הַמִּסְכֵּן֙ בְּזוּיָ֔ה וּדְבָרָ֖יו אֵינָ֥ם נִשְׁמָעִֽים ׃
καὶ εἶπα ἐγώ ἀγαθὴ σοφία ὑπὲρ δύναμιν καὶ σοφία τοῦ πένητος ἐξουδενωμένη καὶ λόγοι αὐτοῦ οὔκ εἰσιν ἀκουόμενοι
Et dicebam ego meliorem esse sapientiam fortitudine . Quomodo ergo sapientia pauperis contempta est , et verba ejus non sunt audita ?
ወእቤ ፡ አነ ፡ ትኄይስ ፡ ጥበብ ፡ እምኃይል ፡ ወጥበቡ ፡ ለነዳይ ፡ እንተ ፡ ትትሜነን ፡ ወነገሮሂ ፡ ኢኮኑ ፡ እለ ፡ ይሰምዕዎ ።
Then I said, “Wisdom is better than strength.” Nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.
9:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ דִּבְרֵ֣י חֲכָמִ֔ים בְּנַ֖חַת נִשְׁמָעִ֑ים מִזַּעֲקַ֥ת מוֹשֵׁ֖ל בַּכְּסִילִֽים ׃
λόγοι σοφῶν ἐν ἀναπαύσει ἀκούονται ὑπὲρ κραυγὴν ἐξουσιαζόντων ἐν ἀφροσύναις
Verba sapientium audiuntur in silentio , plus quam clamor principis inter stultos .
ወለነገረ ፡ ጠቢባን ፡ በዕረፍት ፡ ይሰምዕዎ ፡ እምነ ፡ ጽራሖሙ ፡ ለእለ ፡ ይኴንኑ ፡ በዕበድ ።
The words of the wise heard in quiet are better than the cry of him who rules among fools.
9:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ טוֹבָ֥ה חׇכְמָ֖ה מִכְּלֵ֣י קְרָ֑ב וְחוֹטֶ֣א אֶחָ֔ד יְאַבֵּ֖ד טוֹבָ֥ה הַרְבֵּֽה ׃
ἀγαθὴ σοφία ὑπὲρ σκεύη πολέμου καὶ ἁμαρτάνων εἷς ἀπολέσει ἀγαθωσύνην πολλήν
Melior est sapientia quam arma bellica ; et qui in uno peccaverit , multa bona perdet .
ትኄይስ ፡ ጥበብ ፡ እምንዋየ ፡ ሐቅል ፡ ዘየኃጥእ ፡ አሐደ ፡ ያኃጒል ፡ ብዙኀ ።
Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinner destroys much good.
