18:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּשְׁמַ֞ע יִתְר֨וֹ כֹהֵ֤ן מִדְיָן֙ חֹתֵ֣ן מֹשֶׁ֔ה אֵת֩ כׇּל ־אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשָׂ֤ה אֱלֹהִים֙ לְמֹשֶׁ֔ה וּלְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עַמּ֑וֹ כִּֽי ־הוֹצִ֧יא יְהֹוָ֛ה אֶת ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל מִמִּצְרָֽיִם ׃
ἤκουσεν δὲ Ιοθορ ὁ ἱερεὺς Μαδιαμ ὁ γαμβρὸς Μωυσῆ πάντα ὅσα ἐποίησεν κύριος Ισραηλ τῷ ἑαυτοῦ λαῷ ἐξήγαγεν γὰρ κύριος τὸν Ισραηλ ἐξ Αἰγύπτου
Cumque audisset Jethro , sacerdos Madian , cognatus Moysi , omnia quae fecerat Deus Moysi , et Israëli populo suo , et quod eduxisset Dominus Israël de Aegypto ,
ወሰምዐ ፡ ዮቶር ፡ ሠዋዒ ፡ ዘእምድያም ፡ ሐሙሁ ፡ ለሙሴ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ዘገብረ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ለእስራኤል ፡ ለሕዝቡ ፡ ወአውፅኦሙ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ለእስራኤል ፡ እምግብጽ ።
Now Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses’ father-in-law, heard of all that God had done for Moses and for Israel his people, how Yahweh had brought Israel out of Egypt.
18:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּקַּ֗ח יִתְרוֹ֙ חֹתֵ֣ן מֹשֶׁ֔ה אֶת ־צִפֹּרָ֖ה אֵ֣שֶׁת מֹשֶׁ֑ה אַחַ֖ר שִׁלּוּחֶֽיהָ ׃
ἔλαβεν δὲ Ιοθορ ὁ γαμβρὸς Μωυσῆ Σεπφωραν τὴν γυναῖκα Μωυσῆ μετὰ τὴν ἄφεσιν αὐτῆς
tulit Sephoram uxorem Moysi quam remiserat ,
ወነሥአ ፡ ዮቶር ፡ ሐሙሁ ፡ ለሙሴ ፡ [ሲፕ ]ራሃ ፡ ብእሲቶ ፡ ለሙሴ ፡ እምዘ ፡ ኀደጋ ፤
Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, received Zipporah, Moses’ wife, after he had sent her away,
18:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְאֵ֖ת שְׁנֵ֣י בָנֶ֑יהָ אֲשֶׁ֨ר שֵׁ֤ם הָֽאֶחָד֙ גֵּֽרְשֹׁ֔ם כִּ֣י אָמַ֔ר גֵּ֣ר הָיִ֔יתִי בְּאֶ֖רֶץ נׇכְרִיָּֽה ׃
καὶ τοὺς δύο υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ ὄνομα τῷ ἑνὶ αὐτῶν Γηρσαμ λέγων πάροικος ἤμην ἐν γῇ ἀλλοτρίᾳ
et duos filios ejus : quorum unus vocabatur Gersam , dicente patre : Advena fui in terra aliena ;
[ወ፪ደቂቆ ፡] ወስሙ ፡ ለወልደ ፡ ሙሴ ፡ ለአሐዱ ፡ ጌርሳም ፡ ወይቤ ፡ እስመ ፡ ፈላሲ ፡ አነ ፡ በምድረ ፡ ባዕድ ፡ ወስሙ ፡ ለካልእ ፡ ወልዱ ፡ ኤልያዛር ፡ [ወይቤ ፡] ፈጣሪ ፡ ዘአቡየ ፡ ረዳኢየ ፡ ወአድኅነኒ ፡ እምእዴሁ ፡ ለፈርዖን ።
and her two sons. The name of one son was Gershom, for Moses said, “I have lived as a foreigner in a foreign land”.
18:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְשֵׁ֥ם הָאֶחָ֖ד אֱלִיעֶ֑זֶר כִּֽי ־אֱלֹהֵ֤י אָבִי֙ בְּעֶזְרִ֔י וַיַּצִּלֵ֖נִי מֵחֶ֥רֶב פַּרְעֹֽה ׃
καὶ τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ δευτέρου Ελιεζερ λέγων ὁ γὰρ θεὸς τοῦ πατρός μου βοηθός μου καὶ ἐξείλατό με ἐκ χειρὸς Φαραω
alter vero Eliezer : Deus enim , ait , patris mei adjutor meus , et eruit me de gladio Pharaonis .
ወመጽአ ፡ ዮቶር ፡ ሐሙሁ ፡ ለሙሴ ፡ ወደቁ ፡ ወብእሲቱ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ሙሴ ፡ ገዳመ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ኅደሩ ፡ ጕንደ ፡ ደብር ፡ ዘእግዚአብሔር ።
The name of the other was Eliezer, for he said, “My father’s God was my help and delivered me from Pharaoh’s sword.”
18:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיָּבֹ֞א יִתְר֨וֹ חֹתֵ֥ן מֹשֶׁ֛ה וּבָנָ֥יו וְאִשְׁתּ֖וֹ אֶל ־מֹשֶׁ֑ה אֶל ־הַמִּדְבָּ֗ר אֲשֶׁר ־ה֛וּא חֹנֶ֥ה שָׁ֖ם הַ֥ר הָאֱלֹהִֽים ׃
καὶ ἐξῆλθεν Ιοθορ ὁ γαμβρὸς Μωυσῆ καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ καὶ ἡ γυνὴ πρὸς Μωυσῆν εἰς τὴν ἔρημον οὗ παρενέβαλεν ἐπ’ ὄρους τοῦ θεοῦ
Venit ergo Jethro cognatus Moysi , et filii ejus , et uxor ejus ad Moysen in desertum , ubi erat castrametatus juxta montem Dei .
ወይቤልዎ ፡ ለሙሴ ፡ ናሁ ፡ ዮቶር ፡ ሐሙከ ፡ ይበጽሕ ፡ ኀቤከ ፡ ወብእሲትከ ፡ ወክልኤሆሙ ፡ ደቂቅከ ።
Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, came with Moses’ sons and his wife to Moses into the wilderness where he was encamped, at the Mountain of God.
18:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֶל ־מֹשֶׁ֔ה אֲנִ֛י חֹתֶנְךָ֥ יִתְר֖וֹ בָּ֣א אֵלֶ֑יךָ וְאִ֨שְׁתְּךָ֔ וּשְׁנֵ֥י בָנֶ֖יהָ עִמָּֽהּ ׃
ἀνηγγέλη δὲ Μωυσεῖ λέγοντες ἰδοὺ ὁ γαμβρός σου Ιοθορ παραγίνεται πρὸς σέ καὶ ἡ γυνὴ καὶ οἱ δύο υἱοί σου μετ’ αὐτοῦ
Et mandavit Moysi , dicens : Ego Jethro cognatus tuus venio ad te , et uxor tua , et duo filii cum ea .
ወወፅአ ፡ ሙሴ ፡ ወተቀበሎ ፡ ለሐሙሁ ፡ ወአምኆ ፡ ወሰአሞ ፡ ወተአምኁ ፡ በበይናቲሆሙ ፡ ወቦኡ ፡ ትዕይንተ ።
He said to Moses, “I, your father-in-law Jethro, have come to you with your wife, and her two sons with her.”
18:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֵּצֵ֨א מֹשֶׁ֜ה לִקְרַ֣את חֹֽתְנ֗וֹ וַיִּשְׁתַּ֙חוּ֙ וַיִּשַּׁק ־ל֔וֹ וַיִּשְׁאֲל֥וּ אִישׁ ־לְרֵעֵ֖הוּ לְשָׁל֑וֹם וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ הָאֹֽהֱלָה ׃
ἐξῆλθεν δὲ Μωυσῆς εἰς συνάντησιν τῷ γαμβρῷ αὐτοῦ καὶ προσεκύνησεν αὐτῷ καὶ ἐφίλησεν αὐτόν καὶ ἠσπάσαντο ἀλλήλους καὶ εἰσήγαγεν αὐτὸν εἰς τὴν σκηνήν
Qui egressus in occursum cognati sui , adoravit , et osculatus est eum : salutaveruntque se mutuo verbis pacificis . Cumque intrasset tabernaculum ,
ወዜነዎ ፡ ሙሴ ፡ ለሐሙሁ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ዘገብሮ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ለፈርዖን ፡ ወለግብጽ ፡ በእንተ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ወኵሎ ፡ ሕማመ ፡ ዘከመ ፡ ሐሙ ፡ በፍኖት ፡ ወዘከመ ፡ አድኀኖሙ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ።
Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, and bowed and kissed him. They asked each other of their welfare, and they came into the tent.
18:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיְסַפֵּ֤ר מֹשֶׁה֙ לְחֹ֣תְנ֔וֹ אֵת֩ כׇּל ־אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשָׂ֤ה יְהֹוָה֙ לְפַרְעֹ֣ה וּלְמִצְרַ֔יִם עַ֖ל אוֹדֹ֣ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אֵ֤ת כׇּל ־הַתְּלָאָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר מְצָאָ֣תַם בַּדֶּ֔רֶךְ וַיַּצִּלֵ֖ם יְהֹוָֽה ׃
καὶ διηγήσατο Μωυσῆς τῷ γαμβρῷ πάντα ὅσα ἐποίησεν κύριος τῷ Φαραω καὶ τοῖς Αἰγυπτίοις ἕνεκεν τοῦ Ισραηλ καὶ πάντα τὸν μόχθον τὸν γενόμενον αὐτοῖς ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ καὶ ὅτι ἐξείλατο αὐτοὺς κύριος ἐκ χειρὸς Φαραω καὶ ἐκ χειρὸς τῶν Αἰγυπτίων
narravit Moyses cognato suo cuncta quae fecerat Dominus Pharaoni et Aegyptiis propter Israël : universumque laborem , qui accidisset eis in itinere , et quod liberaverat eos Dominus .
ወደንገፀ ፡ ዮቶር ፡ በኵሉ ፡ ዘገብረ ፡ ሎሙ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ወአድኀኖሙ ፡ እምእደ ፡ ግብጽ ፡ ወእምእደ ፡ ፈርዖን ።
Moses told his father-in-law all that Yahweh had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel’s sake, all the hardships that had come on them on the way, and how Yahweh delivered them.
18:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּ֣חַדְּ יִתְר֔וֹ עַ֚ל כׇּל ־הַטּוֹבָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר ־עָשָׂ֥ה יְהֹוָ֖ה לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר הִצִּיל֖וֹ מִיַּ֥ד מִצְרָֽיִם ׃
ἐξέστη δὲ Ιοθορ ἐπὶ πᾶσι τοῖς ἀγαθοῖς οἷς ἐποίησεν αὐτοῖς κύριος ὅτι ἐξείλατο αὐτοὺς ἐκ χειρὸς Αἰγυπτίων καὶ ἐκ χειρὸς Φαραω
Laetatusque est Jethro super omnibus bonis , quae fecerat Dominus Israëli , eo quod eruisset eum de manu Aegyptiorum .
ወይቤ ፡ ዮቶር ፡ ቡሩክ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ዘአድኀነ ፡ ሕዝቦ ፡ እምእደ ፡ ግብጽ ፡ ወእምእደ ፡ ፈርዖን ።
Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which Yahweh had done to Israel, in that he had delivered them out of the hand of the Egyptians.
18:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֘אמֶר֮ יִתְרוֹ֒ בָּר֣וּךְ יְהֹוָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר הִצִּ֥יל אֶתְכֶ֛ם מִיַּ֥ד מִצְרַ֖יִם וּמִיַּ֣ד פַּרְעֹ֑ה אֲשֶׁ֤ר הִצִּיל֙ אֶת ־הָעָ֔ם מִתַּ֖חַת יַד ־מִצְרָֽיִם ׃
καὶ εἶπεν Ιοθορ εὐλογητὸς κύριος ὅτι ἐξείλατο τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ ἐκ χειρὸς Αἰγυπτίων καὶ ἐκ χειρὸς Φαραω
Et ait : Benedictus Dominus , qui liberavit vos de manu Aegyptiorum , et de manu Pharaonis ; qui eruit populum suum de manu Aegypti .
እምይእዜ ፡ አእመርኩ ፡ ከመ ፡ ዐቢይ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ እምኵሉ ፡ አማልክት ፡ በበይነዝ ፡ ተኰነኑ ፡ ሎሙ ።
Jethro said, “Blessed be Yahweh, who has delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh; who has delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.
18:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ עַתָּ֣ה יָדַ֔עְתִּי כִּֽי ־גָד֥וֹל יְהֹוָ֖ה מִכׇּל ־הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים כִּ֣י בַדָּבָ֔ר אֲשֶׁ֥ר זָד֖וּ עֲלֵיהֶֽם ׃
νῦν ἔγνων ὅτι μέγας κύριος παρὰ πάντας τοὺς θεούς ἕνεκεν τούτου ὅτι ἐπέθεντο αὐτοῖς
Nunc cognovi , quia magnus Dominus super omnes deos : eo quod superbe egerint contra illos .
ወነሥአ ፡ ዮቶር ፡ ሐሙሁ ፡ ለሙሴ ፡ ወገብረ ፡ በጽድቅ ፡ መሥዋዕተ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ፡ ወመጽአ ፡ አሮን ፡ ወሊቃነ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ ዘእስራኤል ፡ ከመ ፡ ይብልዑ ፡ ኅብስተ ፡ ምስለ ፡ ሐመ ፡ ሙሴ ፡ በቅድመ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ።
Now I know that Yahweh is greater than all gods because of the way that they treated people arrogantly.”
18:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּקַּ֞ח יִתְר֨וֹ חֹתֵ֥ן מֹשֶׁ֛ה עֹלָ֥ה וּזְבָחִ֖ים לֵֽאלֹהִ֑ים וַיָּבֹ֨א אַהֲרֹ֜ן וְכֹ֣ל ׀ זִקְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל לֶאֱכׇל ־לֶ֛חֶם עִם ־חֹתֵ֥ן מֹשֶׁ֖ה לִפְנֵ֥י הָאֱלֹהִֽים ׃
καὶ ἔλαβεν Ιοθορ ὁ γαμβρὸς Μωυσῆ ὁλοκαυτώματα καὶ θυσίας τῷ θεῷ παρεγένετο δὲ Ααρων καὶ πάντες οἱ πρεσβύτεροι Ισραηλ συμφαγεῖν ἄρτον μετὰ τοῦ γαμβροῦ Μωυσῆ ἐναντίον τοῦ θεοῦ
Obtulit ergo Jethro cognatus Moysi holocausta et hostias Deo : veneruntque Aaron et omnes seniores Israël , ut comederent panem cum eo coram Deo .
ወአመ ፡ ሳኒታ ፡ ነበረ ፡ ሙሴ ፡ ይኰንን ፡ ሕዝበ ፡ ወይጸንሕ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ ሙሴሃ ፡ እምነግህ ፡ እስከ ፡ ሰርክ ።
Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God. Aaron came with all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses’ father-in-law before God.
18:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַֽיְהִי֙ מִֽמׇּחֳרָ֔ת וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב מֹשֶׁ֖ה לִשְׁפֹּ֣ט אֶת ־הָעָ֑ם וַיַּעֲמֹ֤ד הָעָם֙ עַל ־מֹשֶׁ֔ה מִן ־הַבֹּ֖קֶר עַד ־הָעָֽרֶב ׃
καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ τὴν ἐπαύριον συνεκάθισεν Μωυσῆς κρίνειν τὸν λαόν παρειστήκει δὲ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς Μωυσεῖ ἀπὸ πρωίθεν ἕως ἑσπέρας
Altera autem die sedit Moyses ut judicaret populum , qui assistebat Moysi a mane usque ad vesperam .
ወርእየ ፡ ዮቶር ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ዘይገብር ፡ በላዕለ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ዮቶር ፡ ለሙሴ ፡ ምንትኑዝ ፡ ዘትገብር ፡ በሕዝብ ፡ ባሕቲትከ ፡ ትነብር ፡ ወኵሉ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ ይቀውም ፡ እምነግህ ፡ እስከ ፡ ሰርክ ።
On the next day, Moses sat to judge the people, and the people stood around Moses from the morning to the evening.
18:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיַּרְא֙ חֹתֵ֣ן מֹשֶׁ֔ה אֵ֛ת כׇּל ־אֲשֶׁר ־ה֥וּא עֹשֶׂ֖ה לָעָ֑ם וַיֹּ֗אמֶר מָֽה ־הַדָּבָ֤ר הַזֶּה֙ אֲשֶׁ֨ר אַתָּ֤ה עֹשֶׂה֙ לָעָ֔ם מַדּ֗וּעַ אַתָּ֤ה יוֹשֵׁב֙ לְבַדֶּ֔ךָ וְכׇל ־הָעָ֛ם נִצָּ֥ב עָלֶ֖יךָ מִן ־בֹּ֥קֶר עַד ־עָֽרֶב ׃
καὶ ἰδὼν Ιοθορ πάντα ὅσα ἐποίει τῷ λαῷ λέγει τί τοῦτο ὃ σὺ ποιεῖς τῷ λαῷ διὰ τί σὺ κάθησαι μόνος πᾶς δὲ ὁ λαὸς παρέστηκέν σοι ἀπὸ πρωίθεν ἕως δείλης
Quod cum vidisset cognatus ejus , omnia scilicet quae agebat in populo , ait : Quid est hoc quod facis in plebe ? cur solus sedes , et omnis populus praestolatur de mane usque ad vesperam ?
ወይቤ ፡ ሙሴ ፡ ለሐሙሁ ፡ እስመ ፡ ይመጽእ ፡ ኀቤየ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ ወይስእል ፡ ፍትሐ ፡ በኀበ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ።
When Moses’ father-in-law saw all that he did to the people, he said, “What is this thing that you do for the people? Why do you sit alone, and all the people stand around you from morning to evening?”
18:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֖ה לְחֹתְנ֑וֹ כִּֽי ־יָבֹ֥א אֵלַ֛י הָעָ֖ם לִדְרֹ֥שׁ אֱלֹהִֽים ׃
καὶ λέγει Μωυσῆς τῷ γαμβρῷ ὅτι παραγίνεται πρός με ὁ λαὸς ἐκζητῆσαι κρίσιν παρὰ τοῦ θεοῦ
Cui respondit Moyses : Venit ad me populus quaerens sententiam Dei :
እምከመ ፡ ተጋአዙሂ ፡ ይመጽኡ ፡ ኀቤየ ፡ እፍትሖሙ ፡ አስተናጺሕየ ፡ ለለአሐዱ ፡ አሐዱ ፡ ኵነኔ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ወሕጎ ።
Moses said to his father-in-law, “Because the people come to me to inquire of God.
18:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ כִּֽי ־יִהְיֶ֨ה לָהֶ֤ם דָּבָר֙ בָּ֣א אֵלַ֔י וְשָׁ֣פַטְתִּ֔י בֵּ֥ין אִ֖ישׁ וּבֵ֣ין רֵעֵ֑הוּ וְהוֹדַעְתִּ֛י אֶת ־חֻקֵּ֥י הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים וְאֶת ־תּוֹרֹתָֽיו ׃
ὅταν γὰρ γένηται αὐτοῖς ἀντιλογία καὶ ἔλθωσι πρός με διακρίνω ἕκαστον καὶ συμβιβάζω αὐτοὺς τὰ προστάγματα τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ τὸν νόμον αὐτοῦ
cumque acciderit eis aliqua disceptatio , veniunt ad me ut judicem inter eos , et ostendam praecepta Dei , et leges ejus .
ወይቤሎ ፡ ሐሙሁ ፡ ለሙሴ ፡ አኮ ፡ ርቱዕ ፡ ዘአንተ ፡ ትገብር ፡ ዝነገር ፡ ዐቢይ ።
When they have a matter, they come to me, and I judge between a man and his neighbor, and I make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.”
18:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֛אמֶר חֹתֵ֥ן מֹשֶׁ֖ה אֵלָ֑יו לֹא ־טוֹב֙ הַדָּבָ֔ר אֲשֶׁ֥ר אַתָּ֖ה עֹשֶֽׂה ׃
εἶπεν δὲ ὁ γαμβρὸς Μωυσῆ πρὸς αὐτόν οὐκ ὀρθῶς σὺ ποιεῖς τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο
At ille : Non bonam , inquit , rem facis .
ሕማመ ፡ ተሐምም ፡ አንተ ፡ ወኵሉ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ ዘሀሎ ፡ ምስሌከ ፤ ይከብደከ ፡ [ዝቃል ፡] ወኢትክል ፡ ባሕቲትከ ፡ ገቢሮተ ።
Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “The thing that you do is not good.
18:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ נָבֹ֣ל תִּבֹּ֔ל גַּם ־אַתָּ֕ה גַּם ־הָעָ֥ם הַזֶּ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר עִמָּ֑ךְ כִּֽי ־כָבֵ֤ד מִמְּךָ֙ הַדָּבָ֔ר לֹא ־תוּכַ֥ל עֲשֹׂ֖הוּ לְבַדֶּֽךָ ׃
φθορᾷ καταφθαρήσῃ ἀνυπομονήτῳ καὶ σὺ καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς οὗτος ὅς ἐστιν μετὰ σοῦ βαρύ σοι τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο οὐ δυνήσῃ ποιεῖν μόνος
Stulto labore consumeris et tu , et populus iste qui tecum est : ultra vires tuas est negotium ; solus illud non poteris sustinere .
ወይእዜኒ ፡ ስምዐኒ ፡ ወአነ ፡ አመክረከ ፡ ወእግዚአብሔር ፡ የሀሉ ፡ ምስሌከ ፡ ወኩኖሙ ፡ አንተ ፡ ለሕዝብ ፡ በኀበ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ወታብትክ ፡ ቃሎሙ ፡ በኀበ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ።
You will surely wear away, both you, and this people that is with you; for the thing is too heavy for you. You are not able to perform it yourself alone.
18:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ עַתָּ֞ה שְׁמַ֤ע בְּקֹלִי֙ אִיעָ֣צְךָ֔ וִיהִ֥י אֱלֹהִ֖ים עִמָּ֑ךְ הֱיֵ֧ה אַתָּ֣ה לָעָ֗ם מ֚וּל הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים וְהֵבֵאתָ֥ אַתָּ֛ה אֶת ־הַדְּבָרִ֖ים אֶל ־הָאֱלֹהִֽים ׃
νῦν οὖν ἄκουσόν μου καὶ συμβουλεύσω σοι καὶ ἔσται ὁ θεὸς μετὰ σοῦ γίνου σὺ τῷ λαῷ τὰ πρὸς τὸν θεὸν καὶ ἀνοίσεις τοὺς λόγους αὐτῶν πρὸς τὸν θεὸν
Sed audi verba mea atque consilia , et erit Deus tecum . Esto tu populo in his quae ad Deum pertinent , ut referas quae dicuntur ad eum :
ወአስምዖሙ ፡ ትእዛዞ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ፡ ወሕጎ ፡ ወትዜንዎሙ ፡ ፍኖቶ ፡ በእለ ፡ [የሐውሩ ፡] በውስቴቶሙ ፡ ወግብረ ፡ ዘይገብሩ ።
Listen now to my voice. I will give you counsel, and God be with you. You represent the people before God, and bring the causes to God.
18:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְהִזְהַרְתָּ֣ה אֶתְהֶ֔ם אֶת ־הַחֻקִּ֖ים וְאֶת ־הַתּוֹרֹ֑ת וְהוֹדַעְתָּ֣ לָהֶ֗ם אֶת ־הַדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ יֵ֣לְכוּ בָ֔הּ וְאֶת ־הַֽמַּעֲשֶׂ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר יַעֲשֽׂוּן ׃
καὶ διαμαρτυρῇ αὐτοῖς τὰ προστάγματα τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ τὸν νόμον αὐτοῦ καὶ σημανεῖς αὐτοῖς τὰς ὁδούς ἐν αἷς πορεύσονται ἐν αὐταῖς καὶ τὰ ἔργα ἃ ποιήσουσιν
ostendasque populo caeremonias et ritum colendi , viamque per quam ingredi debeant , et opus quod facere debeant .
ወአንተሂ ፡ ለሊከ ፡ ምክር ፡ እምውስተ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ ኅያላን ፡ ዕደወ ፡ ጻድቃነ ፡ ሰብአ ፡ እለ ፡ ይጸልኡ ፡ ትዕቢተ ፡ ወሢም ፡ ሎሙ ፡ መኰንነ ፡ ለ፲፻ወለምእት ፡ ወለኀምሳ ፡ ወለዐሠርቱ ።
You shall teach them the statutes and the laws, and shall show them the way in which they must walk, and the work that they must do.
18:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְאַתָּ֣ה תֶחֱזֶ֣ה מִכׇּל ־הָ֠עָ֠ם אַנְשֵׁי ־חַ֜יִל יִרְאֵ֧י אֱלֹהִ֛ים אַנְשֵׁ֥י אֱמֶ֖ת שֹׂ֣נְאֵי בָ֑צַע וְשַׂמְתָּ֣ עֲלֵהֶ֗ם שָׂרֵ֤י אֲלָפִים֙ שָׂרֵ֣י מֵא֔וֹת שָׂרֵ֥י חֲמִשִּׁ֖ים וְשָׂרֵ֥י עֲשָׂרֹֽת ׃
καὶ σὺ σεαυτῷ σκέψαι ἀπὸ παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ ἄνδρας δυνατοὺς θεοσεβεῖς ἄνδρας δικαίους μισοῦντας ὑπερηφανίαν καὶ καταστήσεις αὐτοὺς ἐπ’ αὐτῶν χιλιάρχους καὶ ἑκατοντάρχους καὶ πεντηκοντάρχους καὶ δεκαδάρχους
Provide autem de omni plebe viros potentes , et timentes Deum , in quibus sit veritas , et qui oderint avaritiam , et constitue ex eis tribunos , et centuriones , et quinquagenarios , et decanos ,
ወይኰንኑ ፡ ሕዝበ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ሰዐተ ፡ ወቃለ ፡ ዘዐጸቦሙ ፡ ያዕርጉ ፡ ኀቤከ ፡ ወቀሊለ ፡ ኵነኔ ፡ እሙንቱ ፡ ይኰንኑ ፡ ወያቀልሉከ ፡ ወያርድኡከ ።
Moreover you shall provide out of all the people able men which fear God: men of truth, hating unjust gain; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
18:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְשָׁפְט֣וּ אֶת ־הָעָם֮ בְּכׇל ־עֵת֒ וְהָיָ֞ה כׇּל ־הַדָּבָ֤ר הַגָּדֹל֙ יָבִ֣יאוּ אֵלֶ֔יךָ וְכׇל ־הַדָּבָ֥ר הַקָּטֹ֖ן יִשְׁפְּטוּ ־הֵ֑ם וְהָקֵל֙ מֵֽעָלֶ֔יךָ וְנָשְׂא֖וּ אִתָּֽךְ ׃
καὶ κρινοῦσιν τὸν λαὸν πᾶσαν ὥραν τὸ δὲ ῥῆμα τὸ ὑπέρογκον ἀνοίσουσιν ἐπὶ σέ τὰ δὲ βραχέα τῶν κριμάτων κρινοῦσιν αὐτοὶ καὶ κουφιοῦσιν ἀπὸ σοῦ καὶ συναντιλήμψονταί σοι
qui judicent populum omni tempore : quidquid autem majus fuerit , referant ad te , et ipsi minora tantummodo judicent : leviusque sit tibi , partito in alios onere .
ወዝ ፡ ቃልየ ፡ ለእመ ፡ ገበርከ ፡ ያኄይለከ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ወትክል ፡ ኰንኖ ፡ ወዝሕዝብ ፡ ይግባእ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ምንባሪሁ ፡ በፍሥሓ ።
Let them judge the people at all times. It shall be that every great matter they shall bring to you, but every small matter they shall judge themselves. So shall it be easier for you, and they shall share the load with you.
18:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ אִ֣ם אֶת ־הַדָּבָ֤ר הַזֶּה֙ תַּעֲשֶׂ֔ה וְצִוְּךָ֣ אֱלֹהִ֔ים וְיָֽכׇלְתָּ֖ עֲמֹ֑ד וְגַם֙ כׇּל ־הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה עַל ־מְקֹמ֖וֹ יָבֹ֥א בְשָׁלֽוֹם ׃
ἐὰν τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο ποιήσῃς κατισχύσει σε ὁ θεός καὶ δυνήσῃ παραστῆναι καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς οὗτος εἰς τὸν ἑαυτοῦ τόπον μετ’ εἰρήνης ἥξει
Si hoc feceris , implebis imperium Dei , et praecepta ejus poteris sustentare : et omnis hic populus revertetur ad loca sua cum pace .
ወሰምዐ ፡ ሙሴ ፡ ቃለ ፡ ሐሙሁ ፡ ወገብረ ፡ በከመ ፡ ይቤሎ ።
If you will do this thing, and God commands you so, then you will be able to endure, and all these people also will go to their place in peace.”
18:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע מֹשֶׁ֖ה לְק֣וֹל חֹתְנ֑וֹ וַיַּ֕עַשׂ כֹּ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר אָמָֽר ׃
ἤκουσεν δὲ Μωυσῆς τῆς φωνῆς τοῦ γαμβροῦ καὶ ἐποίησεν ὅσα αὐτῷ εἶπεν
Quibus auditis , Moyses fecit omnia quae ille suggesserat .
ወኀርየ ፡ ሙሴ ፡ ዕደወ ፡ ዘይክል ፡ እምውስተ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ወሤመ ፡ ውስቴቶሙ ፡ መኰንነ ፡ ለ፲፻ወዘ፻ወዘ፶ወዘ፲ ።
So Moses listened to the voice of his father-in-law, and did all that he had said.
18:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּבְחַ֨ר מֹשֶׁ֤ה אַנְשֵׁי ־חַ֙יִל֙ מִכׇּל ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיִּתֵּ֥ן אֹתָ֛ם רָאשִׁ֖ים עַל ־הָעָ֑ם שָׂרֵ֤י אֲלָפִים֙ שָׂרֵ֣י מֵא֔וֹת שָׂרֵ֥י חֲמִשִּׁ֖ים וְשָׂרֵ֥י עֲשָׂרֹֽת ׃
καὶ ἐπέλεξεν Μωυσῆς ἄνδρας δυνατοὺς ἀπὸ παντὸς Ισραηλ καὶ ἐποίησεν αὐτοὺς ἐπ’ αὐτῶν χιλιάρχους καὶ ἑκατοντάρχους καὶ πεντηκοντάρχους καὶ δεκαδάρχους
Et electis viris strenuis de cuncto Israël , constituit eos principes populi , tribunos , et centuriones , et quinquagenarios , et decanos .
ወይኰንኑ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ሕዝበ ፡ ኵላ ፡ ሰዐተ ፡ ወዘዐጸቦሙ ፡ ኵነኔ ፡ ያዕርጉ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ሙሴ ፡ ወቀሊለ ፡ ኵነኔ ፡ እሙንቱ ፡ ይፍትሑ ።
Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
18:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְשָׁפְט֥וּ אֶת ־הָעָ֖ם בְּכׇל ־עֵ֑ת אֶת ־הַדָּבָ֤ר הַקָּשֶׁה֙ יְבִיא֣וּן אֶל ־מֹשֶׁ֔ה וְכׇל ־הַדָּבָ֥ר הַקָּטֹ֖ן יִשְׁפּוּט֥וּ הֵֽם ׃
καὶ ἐκρίνοσαν τὸν λαὸν πᾶσαν ὥραν πᾶν δὲ ῥῆμα ὑπέρογκον ἀνεφέροσαν ἐπὶ Μωυσῆν πᾶν δὲ ῥῆμα ἐλαφρὸν ἐκρίνοσαν αὐτοί
Qui judicabant plebem omni tempore : quidquid autem gravius erat , referebant ad eum , faciliora tantummodo judicantes .
ወፈነወ ፡ ሙሴ ፡ ሐማሁ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ምድሩ ፡ [ወ ]ኅለፈ ።
They judged the people at all times. They brought the hard cases to Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.
18:27 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיְשַׁלַּ֥ח מֹשֶׁ֖ה אֶת ־חֹתְנ֑וֹ וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ ל֖וֹ אֶל ־אַרְצֽוֹ ׃ {פ}
ἐξαπέστειλεν δὲ Μωυσῆς τὸν ἑαυτοῦ γαμβρόν καὶ ἀπῆλθεν εἰς τὴν γῆν αὐτοῦ
Dimisitque cognatum suum : qui reversus abiit in terram suam .
— Moses let his father-in-law depart, and he went his way into his own land.
