20:1
וַיִּסַּ֨ע מִשָּׁ֤ם אַבְרָהָם֙ אַ֣רְצָה הַנֶּ֔גֶב וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב בֵּין־קָדֵ֖שׁ וּבֵ֣ין שׁ֑וּר וַיָּ֖גׇר בִּגְרָֽר׃
καὶ ἐκίνησεν ἐκεῖθεν Αβρααμ εἰς γῆν πρὸς λίβα καὶ ᾤκησεν ἀνὰ μέσον Καδης καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον Σουρ καὶ παρῴκησεν ἐν Γεραροις
Profectus inde Abraham in terram australem, habitavit inter Cades et Sur : et peregrinatus est in Geraris.
ወተንሥአ ፡ እምህየ ፡ አብርሃም ፡ ወሖረ ፡ መንገለ ፡ ምድረ ፡ [አዜብ] ፡ ወኀደረ ፡ ማእከለ ፡ ቃዴስ ፡ ወማእከለ ፡ ሱሬ ፡ ወነበረ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ጌራርስ ።
Abraham traveled from there toward the land of the South, and lived between Kadesh and Shur. He lived as a foreigner in Gerar.
20:2
וַיֹּ֧אמֶר אַבְרָהָ֛ם אֶל־שָׂרָ֥ה אִשְׁתּ֖וֹ אֲחֹ֣תִי הִ֑וא וַיִּשְׁלַ֗ח אֲבִימֶ֙לֶךְ֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ גְּרָ֔ר וַיִּקַּ֖ח אֶת־שָׂרָֽה׃
εἶπεν δὲ Αβρααμ περὶ Σαρρας τῆς γυναικὸς αὐτοῦ ὅτι ἀδελφή μού ἐστιν ἐφοβήθη γὰρ εἰπεῖν ὅτι γυνή μού ἐστιν μήποτε ἀποκτείνωσιν αὐτὸν οἱ ἄνδρες τῆς πόλεως δῑ αὐτήν ἀπέστειλεν δὲ Αβιμελεχ βασιλεὺς Γεραρων καὶ ἔλαβεν τὴν Σαρραν
Dixitque de Sara uxore suo : Soror mea est. Misit ergo Abimelech rex Gerarae, et tulit eam.
ወይቤሎሙ ፡ አብርሃም ፡ በእንተ ፡ ሳራ ፡ ብእሲቱ ፡ እኅትየ ፡ ይእቲ ፡ ወለአከ ፡ አቤሜሌክ ፡ ንጉሠ ፡ ጌራራ ፡ ወነሥኣ ፡ ለሳራ ።
Abraham said about Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.
20:3
וַיָּבֹ֧א אֱלֹהִ֛ים אֶל־אֲבִימֶ֖לֶךְ בַּחֲל֣וֹם הַלָּ֑יְלָה וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֗וֹ הִנְּךָ֥ מֵת֙ עַל־הָאִשָּׁ֣ה אֲשֶׁר־לָקַ֔חְתָּ וְהִ֖וא בְּעֻ֥לַת בָּֽעַל׃
καὶ εἰσῆλθεν ὁ θεὸς πρὸς Αβιμελεχ ἐν ὕπνῳ τὴν νύκτα καὶ εἶπεν ἰδοὺ σὺ ἀποθνῄσκεις περὶ τῆς γυναικός ἧς ἔλαβες αὕτη δέ ἐστιν συνῳκηκυῖα ἀνδρί
Venit autem Deus ad Abimelech per somnium nocte, et ait illi : En morieris propter mulierem quam tulisti : habet enim virum.
ወቦአ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ኀበ ፡ አቤሜሌክ ፡ በይእቲ ፡ ሌሊት ፡ እንዘ ፡ ይነውም ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ናሁ ፡ ትመውት ፡ አንተ ፡ በእንተ ፡ ይእቲ ፡ ብእሲት ፡ እንተ ፡ ነሣእከ ፡ እስመ ፡ ብእሲተ ፡ ብእሲ ፡ ይእቲ ።
But God came to Abimelech in a dream of the night, and said to him, “Behold, you are a dead man, because of the woman whom you have taken; for she is a man’s wife.”
20:4
וַאֲבִימֶ֕לֶךְ לֹ֥א קָרַ֖ב אֵלֶ֑יהָ וַיֹּאמַ֕ר אֲדֹנָ֕י הֲג֥וֹי גַּם־צַדִּ֖יק תַּהֲרֹֽג׃
Αβιμελεχ δὲ οὐχ ἥψατο αὐτῆς καὶ εἶπεν κύριε ἔθνος ἀγνοοῦν καὶ δίκαιον ἀπολεῖς
Abimelech vero non tetigerat eam, et ait : Domine, num gentem ignorantem et justam interficies ?
ወአቤሜሌክሰ ፡ ኢለክፋ ፡ ወይቤ ፡ አቤሜሌክ ፡ ሕዝበኑ ፡ ዘኢያእመረ ፡ በጽድቅ ፡ ትቀትል ።
Now Abimelech had not come near her. He said, “Lord, will you kill even a righteous nation?
20:5
הֲלֹ֨א ה֤וּא אָֽמַר־לִי֙ אֲחֹ֣תִי הִ֔וא וְהִֽיא־גַם־הִ֥וא אָֽמְרָ֖ה אָחִ֣י ה֑וּא בְּתׇם־לְבָבִ֛י וּבְנִקְיֹ֥ן כַּפַּ֖י עָשִׂ֥יתִי זֹֽאת׃
οὐκ αὐτός μοι εἶπεν ἀδελφή μού ἐστιν καὶ αὐτή μοι εἶπεν ἀδελφός μού ἐστιν ἐν καθαρᾷ καρδίᾳ καὶ ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ χειρῶν ἐποίησα τοῦτο
nonne ipse dixit mihi : Soror mea est : et ipsa ait : Frater meus est ? In simplicitate cordis mei, et munditia manuum mearum feci hoc.
ለሊሁ ፡ ይቤለኒ ፡ እኅትየ ፡ ይእቲ ፡ ወይእቲኒ ፡ ትቤለኒ ፡ እኅቱ ፡ አነ ፡ ወበንጹሕ ፡ ልብ ፡ ወበጽድቀ ፡ እደው ፡ ገበርክዎ ፡ ለዝንቱ ።
Didn’t he tell me, ‘She is my sister’? She, even she herself, said, ‘He is my brother.’ I have done this in the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands.”
20:6
וַיֹּ֩אמֶר֩ אֵלָ֨יו הָֽאֱלֹהִ֜ים בַּחֲלֹ֗ם גַּ֣ם אָנֹכִ֤י יָדַ֙עְתִּי֙ כִּ֤י בְתׇם־לְבָבְךָ֙ עָשִׂ֣יתָ זֹּ֔את וָאֶחְשֹׂ֧ךְ גַּם־אָנֹכִ֛י אֽוֹתְךָ֖ מֵחֲטוֹ־לִ֑י עַל־כֵּ֥ן לֹא־נְתַתִּ֖יךָ לִנְגֹּ֥עַ אֵלֶֽיהָ׃
εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ ὁ θεὸς καθ’ ὕπνον κἀγὼ ἔγνων ὅτι ἐν καθαρᾷ καρδίᾳ ἐποίησας τοῦτο καὶ ἐφεισάμην ἐγώ σου τοῦ μὴ ἁμαρτεῖν σε εἰς ἐμέ ἕνεκεν τούτου οὐκ ἀφῆκά σε ἅψασθαι αὐτῆς
Dixitque ad eum Deus : Et ego scio quod simplici corde feceris : et ideo custodivi te ne peccares in me, et non dimisi ut tangeres eam.
ወይቤሎ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ በሕልም ፡ አነኒ ፡ አእመርኩ ፡ ከመ ፡ በንጹሕ ፡ ገበርኮ ፡ ለዝንቱ ፡ ወምሕኩከ ፡ ከመ ፡ ኢተአብስ ፡ ሊተ ፡ ወበእንተ ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ ኢኀደጉከ ፡ ትቅረባ ።
God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know that in the integrity of your heart you have done this, and I also withheld you from sinning against me. Therefore I didn’t allow you to touch her.
20:7
וְעַתָּ֗ה הָשֵׁ֤ב אֵֽשֶׁת־הָאִישׁ֙ כִּֽי־נָבִ֣יא ה֔וּא וְיִתְפַּלֵּ֥ל בַּֽעַדְךָ֖ וֶֽחְיֵ֑ה וְאִם־אֵֽינְךָ֣ מֵשִׁ֔יב דַּ֚ע כִּי־מ֣וֹת תָּמ֔וּת אַתָּ֖ה וְכׇל־אֲשֶׁר־לָֽךְ׃
νῦν δὲ ἀπόδος τὴν γυναῖκα τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ ὅτι προφήτης ἐστὶν καὶ προσεύξεται περὶ σοῦ καὶ ζήσῃ εἰ δὲ μὴ ἀποδίδως γνῶθι ὅτι ἀποθανῇ σὺ καὶ πάντα τὰ σά
Nunc ergo redde viro suo uxorem, quia propheta est : et orabit pro te, et vives : si autem nolueris reddere, scito quod morte morieris tu, et omnia quae tua sunt.
ወይእዜኒ ፡ አግብእ ፡ ለብእሲ ፡ ብእሲቶ ፡ እስመ ፡ ነቢይ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ወይጼሊ ፡ ላዕሌከ ፡ ወተሐዩ ፡ ወእመሰ ፡ ኢያግባእካ ፡ አእምር ፡ [ከመ ፡ ሞተ ፡ ትመውት ፡] አንተ ፡ ወኵሉ ፡ ዘዚአከ ።
Now therefore, restore the man’s wife. For he is a prophet, and he will pray for you, and you will live. If you don’t restore her, know for sure that you will die, you, and all who are yours.”
20:8
וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֨ם אֲבִימֶ֜לֶךְ בַּבֹּ֗קֶר וַיִּקְרָא֙ לְכׇל־עֲבָדָ֔יו וַיְדַבֵּ֛ר אֶת־כׇּל־הַדְּבָרִ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה בְּאׇזְנֵיהֶ֑ם וַיִּֽירְא֥וּ הָאֲנָשִׁ֖ים מְאֹֽד׃
καὶ ὤρθρισεν Αβιμελεχ τὸ πρωὶ καὶ ἐκάλεσεν πάντας τοὺς παῖδας αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐλάλησεν πάντα τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα εἰς τὰ ὦτα αὐτῶν ἐφοβήθησαν δὲ πάντες οἱ ἄνθρωποι σφόδρα
Statimque de nocte consurgens Abimelech, vocavit omnes servos suos : et locutus est universa verba haec in auribus eorum, timueruntque omnes viri valde.
ወተንሥአ ፡ አቤሜሌክ ፡ በጽባሕ ፡ ወጸውዐ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ደቆ ፡ ወነገሮሙ ፡ ዘንተ ፡ ነገረ ፡ ወፈርህዎ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ሰብአ ፡ ቤቱ ፡ ጥቀ ።
Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ear. The men were very scared.
20:9
וַיִּקְרָ֨א אֲבִימֶ֜לֶךְ לְאַבְרָהָ֗ם וַיֹּ֨אמֶר ל֜וֹ מֶֽה־עָשִׂ֤יתָ לָּ֙נוּ֙ וּמֶֽה־חָטָ֣אתִי לָ֔ךְ כִּֽי־הֵבֵ֧אתָ עָלַ֛י וְעַל־מַמְלַכְתִּ֖י חֲטָאָ֣ה גְדֹלָ֑ה מַעֲשִׂים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹא־יֵֽעָשׂ֔וּ עָשִׂ֖יתָ עִמָּדִֽי׃
καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Αβιμελεχ τὸν Αβρααμ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ τί τοῦτο ἐποίησας ἡμῖν μή τι ἡμάρτομεν εἰς σέ ὅτι ἐπήγαγες ἐπ’ ἐμὲ καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν βασιλείαν μου ἁμαρτίαν μεγάλην ἔργον ὃ οὐδεὶς ποιήσει πεποίηκάς μοι
Vocavit autem Abimelech etiam Abraham, et dixit ei : Quid fecisti nobis ? quid peccavimus in te, quia induxisti super me et super regnum meum peccatum grande ? quae non debuisti facere, fecisti nobis.
ወጸውዖ ፡ አቤሜሌክ ፡ ለአብርሃም ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ምንትኑ ፡ ዘገበርከ ፡ ላዕሌየ ፡ ወላዕለ ፡ መንግሥትየ ፡ ኀጢአተ ፡ ዐቢየ ፡ ዘኢይገብሮ ፡ መኑሂ ፡ ገበርከ ፡ ላዕሌየ ።
Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said to him, “What have you done to us? How have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done deeds to me that ought not to be done!”
20:10
וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֲבִימֶ֖לֶךְ אֶל־אַבְרָהָ֑ם מָ֣ה רָאִ֔יתָ כִּ֥י עָשִׂ֖יתָ אֶת־הַדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּֽה׃
εἶπεν δὲ Αβιμελεχ τῷ Αβρααμ τί ἐνιδὼν ἐποίησας τοῦτο
Rursumque expostulans, ait : Quid vidisti, ut hoc faceres ?
ወይቤሎ ፡ አቤሜሌክ ፡ ለአብርሃም ፡ [ምንተ ፡] ርኢየከ ፡ ገበርካሁ ፡ ለዝንቱ ።
Abimelech said to Abraham, “What did you see, that you have done this thing?”
20:11
וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אַבְרָהָ֔ם כִּ֣י אָמַ֗רְתִּי רַ֚ק אֵין־יִרְאַ֣ת אֱלֹהִ֔ים בַּמָּק֖וֹם הַזֶּ֑ה וַהֲרָג֖וּנִי עַל־דְּבַ֥ר אִשְׁתִּֽי׃
εἶπεν δὲ Αβρααμ εἶπα γάρ ἄρα οὐκ ἔστιν θεοσέβεια ἐν τῷ τόπῳ τούτῳ ἐμέ τε ἀποκτενοῦσιν ἕνεκεν τῆς γυναικός μου
Respondit Abraham : Cogitavi mecum, dicens : Forsitan non est timor Dei in loco isto : et interficient me propter uxorem meam :
ወይቤሎ ፡ አብርሃም ፡ እስመ ፡ እቤ ፡ ዮጊ ፡ አልቦ ፡ ፍርሀተ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ውስተዝ ፡ መካን ፡ ወይቀትሉኒ ፡ በእንተ ፡ ብእሲትየ ።
Abraham said, “Because I thought, ‘Surely the fear of God is not in this place. They will kill me for my wife’s sake.’
20:12
וְגַם־אׇמְנָ֗ה אֲחֹתִ֤י בַת־אָבִי֙ הִ֔וא אַ֖ךְ לֹ֣א בַת־אִמִּ֑י וַתְּהִי־לִ֖י לְאִשָּֽׁה׃
καὶ γὰρ ἀληθῶς ἀδελφή μού ἐστιν ἐκ πατρός ἀλλ’ οὐκ ἐκ μητρός ἐγενήθη δέ μοι εἰς γυναῖκα
alias autem et vere soror mea est, filia patris mei, et non filia matris meae, et duxi eam in uxorem.
እስመ ፡ እኅትየ ፡ ይእቲ ፡ እመንገለ ፡ አቡየ ፡ ወአኮ ፡ እመንገለ ፡ እምየ ፡ ወኮነተኒ ፡ ብእሲትየ ።
Besides, she is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.
20:13
וַיְהִ֞י כַּאֲשֶׁ֧ר הִתְע֣וּ אֹתִ֗י אֱלֹהִים֮ מִבֵּ֣ית אָבִי֒ וָאֹמַ֣ר לָ֔הּ זֶ֣ה חַסְדֵּ֔ךְ אֲשֶׁ֥ר תַּעֲשִׂ֖י עִמָּדִ֑י אֶ֤ל כׇּל־הַמָּקוֹם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נָב֣וֹא שָׁ֔מָּה אִמְרִי־לִ֖י אָחִ֥י הֽוּא׃
ἐγένετο δὲ ἡνίκα ἐξήγαγέν με ὁ θεὸς ἐκ τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ πατρός μου καὶ εἶπα αὐτῇ ταύτην τὴν δικαιοσύνην ποιήσεις ἐπ’ ἐμέ εἰς πάντα τόπον οὗ ἐὰν εἰσέλθωμεν ἐκεῖ εἰπὸν ἐμὲ ὅτι ἀδελφός μού ἐστιν
Postquam autem eduxit me Deus de domo patris mei, dixi ad eam : Hanc misericordiam facies mecum : in omni loco, ad quem ingrediemur, dices quod frater tuus sim.
ወአመ ፡ አውፅአኒ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ እምቤተ ፡ አቡየ ፡ እቤለ ፡ ዘንተ ፡ ጽድቀ ፡ ግበሪ ፡ ላዕሌየ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ መካን ፡ ኀበ ፡ ቦእነ ፡ በሊ ፡ እኁየ ፡ ውእቱ ።
When God caused me to wander from my father’s house, I said to her, ‘This is your kindness which you shall show to me. Everywhere that we go, say of me, “He is my brother.”’”
20:14
וַיִּקַּ֨ח אֲבִימֶ֜לֶךְ צֹ֣אן וּבָקָ֗ר וַעֲבָדִים֙ וּשְׁפָחֹ֔ת וַיִּתֵּ֖ן לְאַבְרָהָ֑ם וַיָּ֣שֶׁב ל֔וֹ אֵ֖ת שָׂרָ֥ה אִשְׁתּֽוֹ׃
ἔλαβεν δὲ Αβιμελεχ χίλια δίδραχμα πρόβατα καὶ μόσχους καὶ παῖδας καὶ παιδίσκας καὶ ἔδωκεν τῷ Αβρααμ καὶ ἀπέδωκεν αὐτῷ Σαρραν τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ
Tulit igitur Abimelech oves et boves, et servos et ancillas, et dedit Abraham : reddiditque illi Saram uxorem suam,
ወነሥአ ፡ አቤሜሌክ ፡ ዕሠርተ ፡ ምእተ ፡ ጠፋልሐ ፡ ብሩር ፡ ወአባግዐ ፡ ወአልህምተ ፡ ወደቀ ፡ ወአዋልደ ፡ ወወሀቦ ፡ ለአብርሃም ፡ ወአግብአ ፡ ሎቱ ፡ ብእሲቶ ፡ ሳራሃ ።
Abimelech took sheep and cattle, male servants and female servants, and gave them to Abraham, and restored Sarah, his wife, to him.
20:15
וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲבִימֶ֔לֶךְ הִנֵּ֥ה אַרְצִ֖י לְפָנֶ֑יךָ בַּטּ֥וֹב בְּעֵינֶ֖יךָ שֵֽׁב׃
καὶ εἶπεν Αβιμελεχ τῷ Αβρααμ ἰδοὺ ἡ γῆ μου ἐναντίον σου οὗ ἐάν σοι ἀρέσκῃ κατοίκει
et ait : Terra coram vobis est, ubicumque tibi placuerit habita.
ወይቤሎ ፡ አቤሜሌክ ፡ ለአብርሃም ፡ ናሁ ፡ ምድርየ ፡ ቅድሜከ ።
Abimelech said, “Behold, my land is before you. Dwell where it pleases you.”
20:16
וּלְשָׂרָ֣ה אָמַ֗ר הִנֵּ֨ה נָתַ֜תִּי אֶ֤לֶף כֶּ֙סֶף֙ לְאָחִ֔יךְ הִנֵּ֤ה הוּא־לָךְ֙ כְּס֣וּת עֵינַ֔יִם לְכֹ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִתָּ֑ךְ וְאֵ֥ת כֹּ֖ל וְנֹכָֽחַת׃
τῇ δὲ Σαρρα εἶπεν ἰδοὺ δέδωκα χίλια δίδραχμα τῷ ἀδελφῷ σου ταῦτα ἔσται σοι εἰς τιμὴν τοῦ προσώπου σου καὶ πάσαις ταῖς μετὰ σοῦ καὶ πάντα ἀλήθευσον
Sarae autem dixit : Ecce mille argenteos dedi fratri tuo, hoc erit tibi in velamen oculorum ad omnes qui tecum sunt, et quocumque perrexeris : mementoque te deprehensam.
ወይቤላ ፡ ለሳራሂ ፡ ናሁ ፡ ወሀብክዎ ፡ ለእኁኪ ፡ ዐሠርተ ፡ ምእተ ፡ ጠፋልሐ ፡ ወዝንቱ ፡ ይኩንኪ ፡ ለኪ ፡ ለክብረ ፡ ገጽኪ ፡ ወለኵሉ ፡ እለ ፡ ምስሌኪ ፡ ወበኵሉ ፡ ጽድቅ ፡ ተናገራ ።
To Sarah he said, “Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver. Behold, it is for you a covering of the eyes to all that are with you. In front of all you are vindicated.”
20:17
וַיִּתְפַּלֵּ֥ל אַבְרָהָ֖ם אֶל־הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וַיִּרְפָּ֨א אֱלֹהִ֜ים אֶת־אֲבִימֶ֧לֶךְ וְאֶת־אִשְׁתּ֛וֹ וְאַמְהֹתָ֖יו וַיֵּלֵֽדוּ׃
προσηύξατο δὲ Αβρααμ πρὸς τὸν θεόν καὶ ἰάσατο ὁ θεὸς τὸν Αβιμελεχ καὶ τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰς παιδίσκας αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔτεκον
Orante autem Abraham, sanavit Deus Abimelech et uxorem, ancillasque ejus, et pepererunt :
ወጸለየ ፡ አብርሃም ፡ ኀበ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ወፈወሶ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ለአቤሜሌክ ፡ ወለብእሲቱ ፡ ወአዋልዲሆሙ ፡ ወወለዳ ።
Abraham prayed to God. So God healed Abimelech, his wife, and his female servants, and they bore children.
20:18
כִּֽי־עָצֹ֤ר עָצַר֙ יְהֹוָ֔ה בְּעַ֥ד כׇּל־רֶ֖חֶם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבִימֶ֑לֶךְ עַל־דְּבַ֥ר שָׂרָ֖ה אֵ֥שֶׁת אַבְרָהָֽם׃ {ס}
ὅτι συγκλείων συνέκλεισεν κύριος ἔξωθεν πᾶσαν μήτραν ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τοῦ Αβιμελεχ ἕνεκεν Σαρρας τῆς γυναικὸς Αβρααμ

እስመ ፡ ዐጺወ ፡ ዐጸዋ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ለማኅፀን ፡ እምአፍአሃ ፡ እንተ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ቤቱ ፡ ለአቤሜሌክ ፡ በእንተ ፡ ሳራ ፡ ብእሲተ ፡ አብርሃም ።
For Yahweh had closed up tight all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham’s wife.
