12:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ Τοιγαροῦν καὶ ἡμεῖς , τοσοῦτον ἔχοντες περικείμενον ἡμῖν νέφος μαρτύρων , ὄγκον ἀποθέμενοι πάντα καὶ τὴν εὐπερίστατον ἁμαρτίαν , δι’ ὑπομονῆς τρέχωμεν τὸν προκείμενον ἡμῖν ἀγῶνα ,
Ideoque et nos tantam habentes impositam nubem testium , deponentes omne pondus , et circumstans nos peccatum , per patientiam curramus ad propositum nobis certamen :
ወበእንተ ዝንቱ ንሕነኒ እለ ብነ እሙንቱ ሰማዕት ኵሎሙ ዘየዐውዱነ ከመ ደመና ንግድፍ እምላዕሌነ ኵሎ ክበደ ወሁከተ ኀጢአት ወንሩጽ በትዕግሥት ኀበ ዘጽኑሕ ለነ ተስፋነ ዘሃይማኖት ።
Therefore let’s also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with perseverance the race that is set before us,
12:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀφορῶντες εἰς τὸν τῆς πίστεως ἀρχηγὸν καὶ τελειωτὴν Ἰησοῦν , ὃς ἀντὶ τῆς προκειμένης αὐτῷ χαρᾶς ὑπέμεινεν σταυρὸν αἰσχύνης καταφρονήσας , ἐν δεξιᾷ τε τοῦ θρόνου τοῦ θεοῦ κεκάθικεν .
aspicientes in auctorem fidei , et consummatorem Jesum , qui proposito sibi gaudio sustinuit crucem , confusione contempta , atque in dextera sedis Dei sedet .
ወንትልዎ ለፍጹም መልአክነ ኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ዘተዐገሠ ኀፍረተ መስቀል አናሕስዮ በእንተ ፍሥሓሁ ዘጽኑሕ ሎቱ ወመነና ለኀፍረት ወነበረ በየማነ መንበረ እግዚአብሔር ።
looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
12:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀναλογίσασθε γὰρ τὸν τοιαύτην ὑπομεμενηκότα ὑπὸ τῶν ἁμαρτωλῶν εἰς ἑαυτὸν ἀντιλογίαν , ἵνα μὴ κάμητε ταῖς ψυχαῖς ὑμῶν ἐκλυόμενοι .
Recogitate enim eum qui talem sustinuit a peccatoribus adversum semetipsum contradictionem : ut ne fatigemini , animis vestris deficientes .
ኀልይዎ እስኩ ለዘከመዝ ተዐገሠ እምኃጥኣን ወተናገርዎ በበይናቲክሙ ከመ ኢትስራሕ ነፍስክሙ ወኢትድክሙ ።
For consider him who has endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, that you don’t grow weary, fainting in your souls.
12:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ Οὔπω μέχρις αἵματος ἀντικατέστητε πρὸς τὴν ἁμαρτίαν ἀνταγωνιζόμενοι ,
Nondum enim usque ad sanguinem restitistis , adversus peccatum repugnantes :
እስመ ዓዲክሙ ኢጸናዕክሙ እስከ ለደም ትበጽሑ ተጋደልዋ ለኀጢአት ወእበይዋ ወአብድርዋ ለትምህርተ ተስፋክሙ ።
You have not yet resisted to blood, striving against sin.
12:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐκλέλησθε τῆς παρακλήσεως , ἥτις ὑμῖν ὡς υἱοῖς διαλέγεται , υἱέ μου , μὴ ὀλιγώρει παιδίας κυρίου , μηδὲ ἐκλύου ὑπ’ αὐτοῦ ἐλεγχόμενος ·
et obliti estis consolationis , quae vobis tamquam filiis loquitur , dicens : Fili mi , noli negligere disciplinam Domini : neque fatigeris dum ab eo argueris .
እስመ ከመ ውሉድ ይብለክሙ «ወልድየ ኢታስተጽሕብ ተግሣጸ እግዚአብሔር ወኢትትገኀሥ እምኔሁ ሶበ ይዘልፈከ እምገሠጸከ ።
You have forgotten the exhortation which reasons with you as with children, “My son, don’t take lightly the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by him;
12:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὃν γὰρ ἀγαπᾷ κύριος παιδεύει , μαστιγοῖ δὲ πάντα υἱὸν ὃν παραδέχεται .
Quem enim diligit Dominus , castigat : flagellat autem omnem filium , quem recipit .
እስመ ለዘአፍቀረ እግዚአብሔር ይጌሥጽ ወይቀሥፍዎ ለኵሉ ውሉድ ዘይትፈቀድ ።»
for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines, and chastises every son whom he receives.”
12:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἰς παιδίαν ὑπομένετε · ὡς υἱοῖς ὑμῖν προσφέρεται ὁ θεός · τίς γὰρ υἱὸς ὃν οὐ παιδεύει πατήρ ;
In disciplina perseverate . Tamquam filiis vobis offert se Deus : quis enim filius , quem non corripit pater ?
ለተግሣጽክሙ ተዐገሡ እስመ ከመ ውሉዱ ያፈቅረክሙ እግዚአብሔር መኑ ውሉድ ዘኢይጌሥጾ አቡሁ ።
It is for discipline that you endure. God deals with you as with children, for what son is there whom his father doesn’t discipline?
12:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἰ δὲ χωρίς ἐστε παιδίας , ἧς μέτοχοι γεγόνασιν πάντες , ἄρα νόθοι καὶ οὐχ υἱοί ἐστε .
quod si extra disciplinam estis , cujus participes facti sunt omnes : ergo adulteri , et non filii estis .
ወእመሰ ኢገሠጹክሙ አንደበራ አንትሙ ወኢኮንክሙ ውሉደ ወዐረይክሙ ኵልክሙ ።
But if you are without discipline, of which all have been made partakers, then you are illegitimate, and not children.
12:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἶτα τοὺς μὲν τῆς σαρκὸς ἡμῶν πατέρας εἴχομεν παιδευτὰς καὶ ἐνετρεπόμεθα · οὐ πολὺ μᾶλλον ὑποταγησόμεθα τῷ πατρὶ τῶν πνευμάτων καὶ ζήσομεν ;
Deinde patres quidem carnis nostrae , eruditores habuimus , et reverebamur eos , non multo magis obtemperabimus Patri spirituum , et vivemus ?
ወእመሰ አበዊነ እለ ወለዱነ በሥጋ ይጌሥጹነ ወነኀፍሮሙ እፎ እንከ ፈድፋደ ንግነይ ወንትአዘዝ ለአበ መንፈስነ ይደልወነ ወንሕየው ።
Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live?
12:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ οἱ μὲν γὰρ πρὸς ὀλίγας ἡμέρας κατὰ τὸ δοκοῦν αὐτοῖς ἐπαίδευον , ὁ δὲ ἐπὶ τὸ συμφέρον εἰς τὸ μεταλαβεῖν τῆς ἁγιότητος αὐτοῦ .
Et illi quidem in tempore paucorum dierum , secundum voluntatem suam erudiebant nos : hic autem ad id quod utile est in recipiendo sanctificationem ejus .
ወእሙንቱሰ ለስላጤ ለኅዳጥ መዋዕል ይጌሥጹነ በከመ ፈቀዱ ወውእቱሰ ለእንተ ትኄይስ ለነ ከመ ንርከብ ቅድሳቲሁ ።
For they indeed for a few days disciplined us as seemed good to them, but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.
12:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ πᾶσα μὲν παιδία πρὸς μὲν τὸ παρὸν οὐ δοκεῖ χαρᾶς εἶναι ἀλλὰ λύπης , ὕστερον δὲ καρπὸν εἰρηνικὸν τοῖς δι’ αὐτῆς γεγυμνασμένοις ἀποδίδωσιν δικαιοσύνης .
Omnis autem disciplina in praesenti quidem videtur non esse gaudii , sed moeroris : postea autem fructum pacatissimum exercitatis per eam , reddet justitiae .
ኵሉ ተግሣጽ ኢይመስል ትፍሥሕተ ለጊዜሁ ዳእሙ ኀዘን ውእቱ ወድኅረሰ ትፈሪ ሰላመ ለእለ ተገሠጹ ወተዐስዮሙ ጽድቀ ።
All chastening seems for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
12:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ Διὸ τὰς παρειμένας χεῖρας καὶ τὰ παραλελυμένα γόνατα ἀνορθώσατε ,
Propter quod remissas manus , et soluta genua erigite ,
ወበእንተዝ አርትዑ እደ ፅውስተ ወእግረ ፅቡሳተ ።
Therefore lift up the hands that hang down and the feeble knees,
12:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ τροχιὰς ὀρθὰς ποιεῖτε τοῖς ποσὶν ὑμῶν , ἵνα μὴ τὸ χωλὸν ἐκτραπῇ , ἰαθῇ δὲ μᾶλλον .
et gressus rectos facite pedibus vestris : ut non claudicans quis erret , magis autem sanetur .
ወግበሩ መንኰራኵረ ርቱዐ ለእገሪክሙ ከመ ይሕየው ሕንካሴ ልብክሙ ወኢትትዐቀፉ ።
and make straight paths for your feet, so what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.
12:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἰρήνην διώκετε μετὰ πάντων , καὶ τὸν ἁγιασμόν , οὗ χωρὶς οὐδεὶς ὄψεται τὸν κύριον ,
Pacem sequimini cum omnibus , et sanctimoniam , sine qua nemo videbit Deum :
ወሩጹ ኀበ ሰላም ምስለ ኵሉ ወኢትኅድጉ ቅድሳቲክሙ ወዘእንበሌሁሰ አልቦ ዘይሬእዮ ለእግዚአብሔር ።
Follow after peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no man will see the Lord,
12:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐπισκοποῦντες μή τις ὑστερῶν ἀπὸ τῆς χάριτος τοῦ θεοῦ , μή τις ῥίζα πικρίας ἄνω φύουσα ἐνοχλῇ καὶ διὰ ταύτης μιανθῶσιν οἱ πολλοί ,
contemplantes nequis desit gratiae Dei : ne qua radix amaritudinis sursum germinans impediat , et per illam inquinentur multi .
አስተሐይጹ አልቦ ዘያሰትት ጸጋ እግዚአብሔር ወአልቦ ዘይትረከብ ሥርው መሪር እንተ ታሠርጽ ሕማመ እንተ ታስሕቶሙ ወታረኵሶሙ ለብዙኃን ።
looking carefully lest there be any man who falls short of the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you and many be defiled by it,
12:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ μή τις πόρνος ἢ βέβηλος ὡς Ἠσαῦ , ὃς ἀντὶ βρώσεως μιᾶς ἀπέδετο τὰ πρωτοτόκια ἑαυτοῦ .
Ne quis fornicator , aut profanus ut Esau : qui propter unam escam vendidit primitiva sua :
አልቦ ዘይከውን ዘማዌ ወርኩሰ ከመ ዔሳው ዘሤጠ ብኵርናሁ ለአሐዱ መብልዕ ።
lest there be any sexually immoral person or profane person, like Esau, who sold his birthright for one meal.
12:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἴστε γὰρ ὅτι καὶ μετέπειτα θέλων κληρονομῆσαι τὴν εὐλογίαν ἀπεδοκιμάσθη , μετανοίας γὰρ τόπον οὐχ εὗρεν , καίπερ μετὰ δακρύων ἐκζητήσας αὐτήν .
scitote enim quoniam et postea cupiens haereditare benedictionem , reprobatus est : non enim invenit poenitentiae locum , quamquam cum lacrimis inquisisset eam .
ተአምሩ ከመ ድኅሬሃ ፈቀደ ይረስ በረከተ ወአውፅእዎ እስመ ተስእኖ ወኀጥአ ፍኖተ በዘይኔስሕ ወኀሠሣ እንዘ ይበኪ ።
For you know that even when he afterward desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for a change of mind though he sought it diligently with tears.
12:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ Οὐ γὰρ προσεληλύθατε ψηλαφωμένῳ καὶ κεκαυμένῳ πυρὶ καὶ γνόφῳ καὶ ζόφῳ καὶ θυέλλῃ
Non enim accessistis ad tractabilem montem , et accensibilem ignem , et turbinem , et caliginem , et procellam ,
እስመ ኢመጻእክሙ ኀበ እሳት ዘያስተርኢ ዘይነድድ ወጽልመት ግፍትዕት ወቆባር ወዐውሎ ወጣቃ ።
For you have not come to a mountain that might be touched and that burned with fire, and to blackness, darkness, storm,
12:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ σάλπιγγος ἤχῳ καὶ φωνῇ ῥημάτων , ἧς οἱ ἀκούσαντες παρῃτήσαντο μὴ προστεθῆναι αὐτοῖς λόγον ·
et tubae sonum , et vocem verborum , quam qui audierunt , excusaverunt se , ne eis fieret verbum .
ወድምፀ መጥቅዕ ወቃለ ነገር ዘሰምዑ እሙንቱ ወኢፈቀዱ ዳግመ ይትናገሮሙ ።
the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which those who heard it begged that not one more word should be spoken to them,
12:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ οὐκ ἔφερον γὰρ τὸ διαστελλόμενον , κἂν θηρίον θίγῃ τοῦ ὄρους , λιθοβοληθήσεται ·
Non enim portabant quod dicebatur : Et si bestia tetigerit montem , lapidabitur .
እስመ ስእንዎ አጽምዖቶ ለዘተናገሮሙ ወእመኒ እንስሳ ቀርቦ ለውእቱ ደብር ይዌግርዎ ።
for they could not stand that which was commanded, “If even an animal touches the mountain, it shall be stoned”.
12:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ καί , οὕτω φοβερὸν ἦν τὸ φανταζόμενον , Μωϋσῆς εἶπεν · ἔκφοβός εἰμι καὶ ἔντρομος .
Et ita terribile erat quod videbatur . Moyses dixit : Exterritus sum , et tremebundus .
ወዝንቱ ኵሉ በእንተ ውእቱ ግሩም ዘአስተርአዮሙ ወሙሴኒ ይቤ ርዑድ ወድንጉፅ አነ ።
So fearful was the appearance that Moses said, “I am terrified and trembling.”
12:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀλλὰ προσεληλύθατε Σιὼν ὄρει καὶ πόλει θεοῦ ζῶντος , Ἱερουσαλὴμ ἐπουρανίῳ , καὶ μυριάσιν ἀγγέλων
Sed accessistis ad Sion montem , et civitatem Dei viventis , Jerusalem caelestem , et multorum millium angelorum frequentiam ,
ወአንትሙሰ በጻሕክሙ ኀበ ጽዮን ሀገረ እግዚአብሔር ሕያው ኢየሩሳሌም እንተ በሰማያት ወኀበ አእላፍ መላእክት ፍሡሓን ።
But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable multitudes of angels,
12:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ πανηγύρει , καὶ ἐκκλησίᾳ πρωτοτόκων ἀπογεγραμμένων ἐν οὐρανοῖς , καὶ κριτῇ θεῷ πάντων , καὶ πνεύμασι δικαίων τετελειωμένων ,
et ecclesiam primitivorum , qui conscripti sunt in caelis , et judicem omnium Deum , et spiritus justorum perfectorum ,
ወማኅበረ በኵር እለ ጽሑፍ አስማቲሆሙ በሰማያት ወኀበ እግዚአብሔር መኰንነ ኵሉ ወኀበ መንፈሰ ጻድቃን ፍጹማን ።
to the festal gathering and assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect,
12:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ διαθήκης νέας μεσίτῃ Ἰησοῦ , καὶ αἵματι ῥαντισμοῦ κρεῖττον λαλοῦντι παρὰ τὸν Ἄβελ .
et testamenti novi mediatorem Jesum , et sanguinis aspersionem melius loquentem quam Abel .
ወኀበ ኢየሱስ ኅሩይ ወመርሕ ለሐዳስ ሥርዐት ወለንዝኀተ ደም ነባቢ ዘይኄይስ ተናግሮ እምዘ አቤል ዑቁ እንከ ኢትእበይዎ ለዘተናገረክሙ እምሰማይ ።
to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better than that of Abel.
12:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ βλέπετε μὴ παραιτήσησθε τὸν λαλοῦντα · εἰ γὰρ ἐκεῖνοι οὐκ ἐξέφυγον ἐπὶ γῆς παραιτησάμενοι τὸν χρηματίζοντα , πολὺ μᾶλλον ἡμεῖς οἱ τὸν ἀπ’ οὐρανῶν ἀποστρεφόμενοι ·
Videte ne recusetis loquentem . Si enim illi non effugerunt , recusantes eum , qui super terram loquebatur : multo magis nos , qui de caelis loquentem nobis avertimus .
ሶበ እሙንቱ ኢድኅኑ እስመ አበይዎ ለዘአስተርአዮሙ በደብር እፎ እንከ ፈድፋደ ንሕነ ለእመ ሜጥነ ገጸነ እምኔሁ ለዘመጽአ እምሰማያት ።
See that you don’t refuse him who speaks. For if they didn’t escape when they refused him who warned on the earth, how much more will we not escape who turn away from him who warns from heaven,
12:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ οὗ ἡ φωνὴ τὴν γῆν ἐσάλευσεν τότε , νῦν δὲ ἐπήγγελται λέγων , ἔτι ἅπαξ ἐγὼ σείσω οὐ μόνον τὴν γῆν ἀλλὰ καὶ τὸν οὐρανόν .
Cujus vox movit terram tunc : nunc autem repromittit , dicens : Adhuc semel , et ego movebo non solum terram , sed et caelum .
ወአድለቅለቃ ለምድር ቃሉ ይእተ አሚረ ወይእዜኒ ነገረ ወይቤ ዓዲ ምዕረ አነ አድለቅለቃ ለምድር ወአኮ ለምድር ባሕቲታ ዓዲ ለሰማይኒ ።
whose voice shook the earth then, but now he has promised, saying, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heavens.”
12:27 ⧉ ⤴︎ τὸ δέ , ἔτι ἅπαξ δηλοῖ τὴν τῶν σαλευομένων μετάθεσιν ὡς πεποιημένων , ἵνα μείνῃ τὰ μὴ σαλευόμενα .
Quod autem , Adhuc semel , dicit : declarat mobilium translationem tamquam factorum , ut maneant ea quae sunt immobilia .
ወዘይቤ ዓዲ ምዕረ ያሬኢ ከመ ያፈልሶ ወያኀልፎ ለዘያንቀለቅል እስመ ፍጡራን እሙንቱ ከመ ይንበር ዘኢያንቀለቅል ።
This phrase, “Yet once more” signifies the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that have been made, that those things which are not shaken may remain.
12:28 ⧉ ⤴︎ διὸ βασιλείαν ἀσάλευτον παραλαμβάνοντες ἔχωμεν χάριν , δι’ ἧς λατρεύωμεν εὐαρέστως τῷ θεῷ μετὰ εὐλαβείας καὶ δέους ·
Itaque regnum immobile suscipientes , habemus gratiam : per quam serviamus placentes Deo , cum metu et reverentia .
ወበእንተዝ ንነሥእ ንሕነ መንግሥተ ዘኢያንቀለቅል ወብነ ጸጋሁ እንተ በእንቲኣሁ ንሠውዕ ለእግዚአብሔር ወናሠምሮ በጸሎት ወበስኢል ወበፍርሀት ወበረዓድ ።
Therefore, receiving a Kingdom that can’t be shaken, let’s have grace, through which we serve God acceptably, with reverence and awe,
12:29 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ γὰρ ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν πῦρ καταναλίσκον .
Etenim Deus noster ignis consumens est .
እስመ አምላክነ እሳት በላዒ ውእቱ ።
for our God is a consuming fire.
