4:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ אִם ־תָּשׁ֨וּב יִשְׂרָאֵ֧ל ׀נְאֻם ־יְהֹוָ֛ה אֵלַ֖י תָּשׁ֑וּב וְאִם ־תָּסִ֧יר שִׁקּוּצֶ֛יךָ מִפָּנַ֖י וְלֹ֥א תָנֽוּד ׃
ἐὰν ἐπιστραφῇ Ισραηλ λέγει κύριος πρός με ἐπιστραφήσεται ἐὰν περιέλῃ τὰ βδελύγματα αὐτοῦ ἐκ στόματος αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ προσώπου μου εὐλαβηθῇ
Si reverteris , Israël , ait Dominus , ad me convertere : si abstuleris offendicula tua a facie mea , non commoveberis .
ለእመ ፡ ገብአ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ኀቤየ ፡ ይቤ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ተመየጥ ፡ ለእመ ፡ አዕተተ ፡ ርኵስ ፡ እምአፉሁ ፡ ወፈርኀ ፡ እምገጽየ ።
“If you will return, Israel,” says Yahweh, “if you will return to me, and if you will put away your abominations out of my sight; then you will not be removed;
4:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְנִשְׁבַּ֙עְתָּ֙ חַי ־יְהֹוָ֔ה בֶּאֱמֶ֖ת בְּמִשְׁפָּ֣ט וּבִצְדָקָ֑ה וְהִתְבָּ֥רְכוּ ב֛וֹ גּוֹיִ֖ם וּב֥וֹ יִתְהַלָּֽלוּ ׃ {ס}
καὶ ὀμόσῃ ζῇ κύριος μετὰ ἀληθείας καὶ ἐν κρίσει καὶ ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ καὶ εὐλογήσουσιν ἐν αὐτῇ ἔθνη καὶ ἐν αὐτῷ αἰνέσουσιν τῷ θεῷ ἐν Ιερουσαλημ
Et jurabis : Vivit Dominus in veritate , et in judicio , et in justitia : et benedicent eum gentes , ipsumque laudabunt .
ወመሐለ ፡ ሕያው ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ በርትዕ ፡ ወፍትሕ ፡ ወጽድቅ ፡ ወይትባረኩ ፡ ቦቱ ፡ አሕዛብ ፡ ወይሴብሑ ፡ ቦቱ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ዘእግዚአብሔር ።
and you will swear, ‘As Yahweh lives,’ in truth, in justice, and in righteousness. The nations will bless themselves in him, and they will glory in him.”
4:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ כִּי ־כֹ֣ה ׀ אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֗ה לְאִ֤ישׁ יְהוּדָה֙ וְלִיר֣וּשָׁלַ֔͏ִם נִ֥ירוּ לָכֶ֖ם נִ֑יר וְאַֽל ־תִּזְרְע֖וּ אֶל ־קֹצִֽים ׃
ὅτι τάδε λέγει κύριος τοῖς ἀνδράσιν Ιουδα καὶ τοῖς κατοικοῦσιν Ιερουσαλημ νεώσατε ἑαυτοῖς νεώματα καὶ μὴ σπείρητε ἐπ’ ἀκάνθαις
Haec enim dicit Dominus viro Juda et Jerusalem : Novate vobis novale , et nolite serere super spinas .
እስመ ፡ ከመዝ ፡ ይቤ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ለእደወ ፡ ይሁዳ ፡ እለ ፡ ይነብሩ ፡ ኢየሩሳሌም ፡ ሐድሱ ፡ ልበክሙ ፡ ሐድሶተ ፡ ወኢትዝርኡ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ሦክ ።
For Yahweh says to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem, “Break up your fallow ground, and don’t sow among thorns.
4:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ הִמֹּ֣לוּ לַיהֹוָ֗ה וְהָסִ֙רוּ֙ עׇרְל֣וֹת לְבַבְכֶ֔ם אִ֥ישׁ יְהוּדָ֖ה וְיֹשְׁבֵ֣י יְרוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם פֶּן ־תֵּצֵ֨א כָאֵ֜שׁ חֲמָתִ֗י וּבָֽעֲרָה֙ וְאֵ֣ין מְכַבֶּ֔ה מִפְּנֵ֖י רֹ֥עַ מַעַלְלֵיכֶֽם ׃
περιτμήθητε τῷ θεῷ ὑμῶν καὶ περιτέμεσθε τὴν σκληροκαρδίαν ὑμῶν ἄνδρες Ιουδα καὶ οἱ κατοικοῦντες Ιερουσαλημ μὴ ἐξέλθῃ ὡς πῦρ ὁ θυμός μου καὶ ἐκκαυθήσεται καὶ οὐκ ἔσται ὁ σβέσων ἀπὸ προσώπου πονηρίας ἐπιτηδευμάτων ὑμῶν
Circumcidimini Domino , et auferte praeputia cordium vestrorum , viri Juda , et habitatores Jerusalem : ne forte egrediatur ut ignis indignatio mea , et succendatur , et non sit qui extinguat , propter malitiam cogitationum vestrarum .
ወተገዘሩ ፡ ለአምላክክሙ ፡ ወግዘሩ ፡ እከዮ ፡ ለልብክሙ ፡ እደወ ፡ ይሁዳ ፡ እለ ፡ ትነብሩ ፡ ኢሩሳሌም ፡ ወኢይፃእ ፡ ከመ ፡ እሳት ፡ መዓትየ ፡ ወትነድድ ፡ ወአልቦ ፡ ዘያጠፍእ ፡ እምገጸ ፡ ጌጋየ ፡ እከይክሙ ።
Circumcise yourselves to Yahweh, and take away the foreskins of your heart, you men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem; lest my wrath go out like fire, and burn so that no one can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
4:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ הַגִּ֣ידוּ בִֽיהוּדָ֗ה וּבִירוּשָׁלַ֙͏ִם֙ הַשְׁמִ֔יעוּ וְאִמְר֕וּ (ותקעו ) [תִּקְע֥וּ ] שׁוֹפָ֖ר בָּאָ֑רֶץ קִרְא֤וּ מַלְאוּ֙ וְאִמְר֔וּ הֵאָסְפ֥וּ וְנָב֖וֹאָה אֶל ־עָרֵ֥י הַמִּבְצָֽר ׃
ἀναγγείλατε ἐν τῷ Ιουδα καὶ ἀκουσθήτω ἐν Ιερουσαλημ εἴπατε σημάνατε ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς σάλπιγγι καὶ κεκράξατε μέγα εἴπατε συνάχθητε καὶ εἰσέλθωμεν εἰς τὰς πόλεις τὰς τειχήρεις
Annuntiate in Juda , et in Jerusalem auditum facite : loquimini , et canite tuba in terra , clamate fortiter , et dicite : Congregamini , et ingrediamur civitates munitas .
ዜንወው ፡ በይሁዳ ፡ ወአስምዑ ፡ በኢየሩሳሌም ፡ ወበሉ ፡ ተአመሩ ፡ በቃለ ፡ ቀርን ፡ ወንፍኡ ፡ ቀርነ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ብሔር ፡ ወስብኩ ፡ ምሕላ ፡ ዐቢየ ፡ ተጋብኡ ፡ ወባኡ ፡ አህጉረ ፡ ጥቅም ።
Declare in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, ‘Blow the trumpet in the land!’ Cry aloud and say, ‘Assemble yourselves! Let’s go into the fortified cities!’
4:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ שְׂאוּ ־נֵ֣ס צִיּ֔וֹנָה הָעִ֖יזוּ אַֽל ־תַּעֲמֹ֑דוּ כִּ֣י רָעָ֗ה אָנֹכִ֛י מֵבִ֥יא מִצָּפ֖וֹן וְשֶׁ֥בֶר גָּדֽוֹל ׃
ἀναλαβόντες φεύγετε εἰς Σιων σπεύσατε μὴ στῆτε ὅτι κακὰ ἐγὼ ἐπάγω ἀπὸ βορρᾶ καὶ συντριβὴν μεγάλην
Levate signum in Sion ; confortamini , nolite stare : quia malum ego adduco ab aquilone , et contritionem magnam .
ወንሥኡ ፡ ጽዮን ፡ ወአምሥጡ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ጽዮን ፡ ሩጹ ፡ ወኢትቁሙ ፡ እስመ ፡ ኢመጽአ ፡ እኪተ ፡ እምደቡብ ፡ ወዐቢየ ፡ ቅጥቃጤ ።
Set up a standard toward Zion. Flee for safety! Don’t wait; for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.”
4:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ עָלָ֤ה אַרְיֵה֙ מִֽסֻּבְּכ֔וֹ וּמַשְׁחִ֣ית גּוֹיִ֔ם נָסַ֖ע יָצָ֣א מִמְּקֹמ֑וֹ לָשׂ֤וּם אַרְצֵךְ֙ לְשַׁמָּ֔ה עָרַ֥יִךְ תִּצֶּ֖ינָה מֵאֵ֥ין יוֹשֵֽׁב ׃
ἀνέβη λέων ἐκ τῆς μάνδρας αὐτοῦ ἐξολεθρεύων ἔθνη ἐξῆρεν καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἐκ τοῦ τόπου αὐτοῦ τοῦ θεῖναι τὴν γῆν εἰς ἐρήμωσιν καὶ πόλεις καθαιρεθήσονται παρὰ τὸ μὴ κατοικεῖσθαι αὐτάς
Ascendit leo de cubili suo , et praedo gentium se levavit : egressus est de loco suo ut ponat terram tuam in solitudinem : civitates tuae vastabuntur , remanentes absque habitatore .
አንበሳ ፡ መጽአ ፡ እምግቡ ፡ ወሠረዎሙ ፡ ለአሕዛብ ፡ ተንሥአ ፡ ወወጽአ ፡ እምድሩ ፡ ከመ ፡ ያማስን ፡ ብሔረከ ፡ ወያንሕሎን ፡ ለአሕጉሪከ ፡ ከመ ፡ አልቦ ፡ ዘይነብር ፡ ውስቴቶን ።
A lion has gone up from his thicket, and a destroyer of nations. He is on his way. He has gone out from his place, to make your land desolate, that your cities be laid waste, without inhabitant.
4:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ עַל ־זֹ֛את חִגְר֥וּ שַׂקִּ֖ים סִפְד֣וּ וְהֵילִ֑ילוּ כִּ֥י לֹֽא ־שָׁ֛ב חֲר֥וֹן אַף ־יְהֹוָ֖ה מִמֶּֽנּוּ ׃ {פ}
ἐπὶ τούτοις περιζώσασθε σάκκους καὶ κόπτεσθε καὶ ἀλαλάξατε διότι οὐκ ἀπεστράφη ὁ θυμὸς κυρίου ἀφ’ ὑμῶν
Super hoc accingite vos ciliciis ; plangite , et ululate : quia non est aversa ira furoris Domini a nobis .
ወበበይነ ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ ቅንቱ ፡ ሠቀ ፡ ብክዩ ፡ ወአውይዉ ፡ እስመ ፡ ኢተመይጠ ፡ መዓተ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ወመቅሠፍቱ ፡ እምኔክሙ ።
For this, clothe yourself with sackcloth, lament and wail; for the fierce anger of Yahweh hasn’t turned back from us.
4:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְהָיָ֤ה בַיּוֹם ־הַהוּא֙ נְאֻם ־יְהֹוָ֔ה יֹאבַ֥ד לֵב ־הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ וְלֵ֣ב הַשָּׂרִ֑ים וְנָשַׁ֙מּוּ֙ הַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים וְהַנְּבִאִ֖ים יִתְמָֽהוּ ׃ {ס}
καὶ ἔσται ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ λέγει κύριος ἀπολεῖται ἡ καρδία τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ ἡ καρδία τῶν ἀρχόντων καὶ οἱ ἱερεῖς ἐκστήσονται καὶ οἱ προφῆται θαυμάσονται
Et erit in die illa , dicit Dominus : peribit cor regis , et cor principum , et obstupescent sacerdotes , et prophetae consternabuntur .
ወውእተ ፡ አሚረ ፡ ይቤ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ይጠፍእ ፡ ልበ ፡ ንጉሥ ፡ ወቦሙ ፡ ለመላእክት ።
“It will happen at that day,” says Yahweh, “that the heart of the king will perish, along with the heart of the princes. The priests will be astonished, and the prophets will wonder.”
4:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ וָֽאֹמַ֞ר אֲהָ֣הּ ׀ אֲדֹנָ֣י יֱהֹוִ֗ה אָכֵן֩ הַשֵּׁ֨א הִשֵּׁ֜אתָ לָעָ֤ם הַזֶּה֙ וְלִירוּשָׁלַ֣͏ִם לֵאמֹ֔ר שָׁל֖וֹם יִהְיֶ֣ה לָכֶ֑ם וְנָגְעָ֥ה חֶ֖רֶב עַד ־הַנָּֽפֶשׁ ׃
καὶ εἶπα ὦ δέσποτα κύριε ἄρα γε ἀπατῶν ἠπάτησας τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον καὶ τὴν Ιερουσαλημ λέγων εἰρήνη ἔσται ὑμῖν καὶ ἰδοὺ ἥψατο ἡ μάχαιρα ἕως τῆς ψυχῆς αὐτῶν
Et dixi : Heu ! heu ! heu ! Domine Deus , ergone decepisti populum istum et Jerusalem , dicens : Pax erit vobis : et ecce pervenit gladius usque ad animam ?
ወእቤ ፡ እግዚኦ ፡ በከኑ ፡ ትየውሆሙ ፡ ለአሕዛብ ፡ ወለኢየሩሳሌም ፡ ወእንዘ ፡ ትብል ፡ ሰላም ፡ ሰላም ፡ ወትረክቦሙ ፡ በመጥባሕት ፡ እስከ ፡ ነፍሶሙ ።
Then I said, “Ah, Lord Yahweh! Surely you have greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, ‘You will have peace;’ whereas the sword reaches to the heart.”
4:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ בָּעֵ֣ת הַהִ֗יא יֵאָמֵ֤ר לָעָם ־הַזֶּה֙ וְלִיר֣וּשָׁלַ֔͏ִם ר֣וּחַ צַ֤ח שְׁפָיִם֙ בַּמִּדְבָּ֔ר דֶּ֖רֶךְ בַּת ־עַמִּ֑י ל֥וֹא לִזְר֖וֹת וְל֥וֹא לְהָבַֽר ׃
ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ ἐροῦσιν τῷ λαῷ τούτῳ καὶ τῇ Ιερουσαλημ πνεῦμα πλανήσεως ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ ὁδὸς τῆς θυγατρὸς τοῦ λαοῦ μου οὐκ εἰς καθαρὸν οὐδ’ εἰς ἅγιον
In tempore illo dicetur populo huic et Jerusalem : Ventus urens in viis quae sunt in deserto viae filiae populi mei , non ad ventilandum et ad purgandum .
ይእተ ፡ አሚረ ፡ ይቤልዎሙ ፡ ለዝ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ እለ ፡ ኢየሩሳሌም ፡ ጋኔን ፡ መስሕት ፡ ውስተ ፡ ገዳመ ፡ ፍኖተ ፡ ወለተ ፡ ሕዝብየ ፡ አኮ ፡ ለዘሪው ፡ ወአኮ ፡ ለአስተጋብኦ ።
At that time it will be said to this people and to Jerusalem, “A hot wind blows from the bare heights in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people, not to winnow, nor to cleanse.
4:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ ר֧וּחַ מָלֵ֛א מֵאֵ֖לֶּה יָ֣בוֹא לִ֑י עַתָּ֕ה גַּם ־אֲנִ֛י אֲדַבֵּ֥ר מִשְׁפָּטִ֖ים אוֹתָֽם ׃
πνεῦμα πληρώσεως ἥξει μοι νῦν δὲ ἐγὼ λαλῶ κρίματα πρὸς αὐτούς
Spiritus plenus ex his veniet mihi , et nunc ego loquar judicia mea cum eis .
ዳዕሙ ፡ ጋኔን ፡ መስሕት ፡ ይመጽእ ፡ ወይእዜኒ ፡ አነ ፡ እነግር ፡ ቅስትየ ፡ ሎሙ ።
A full wind from these will come for me. Now I will also utter judgments against them.”
4:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ הִנֵּ֣ה ׀ כַּעֲנָנִ֣ים יַעֲלֶ֗ה וְכַסּוּפָה֙ מַרְכְּבוֹתָ֔יו קַלּ֥וּ מִנְּשָׁרִ֖ים סוּסָ֑יו א֥וֹי לָ֖נוּ כִּ֥י שֻׁדָּֽדְנוּ ׃
ἰδοὺ ὡς νεφέλη ἀναβήσεται καὶ ὡς καταιγὶς τὰ ἅρματα αὐτοῦ κουφότεροι ἀετῶν οἱ ἵπποι αὐτοῦ οὐαὶ ἡμῖν ὅτι ταλαιπωροῦμεν
Ecce quasi nubes ascendet , et quasi tempestas currus ejus : velociores aquilis equi illius . Vae nobis , quoniam vastati sumus .
ናሁ ፡ ከመ ፡ ደመና ፡ ወከመ ፡ ዓውሎ ፡ ሠረገላሁ ፡ ይበድሩ ፡ እም ፡ አንስርተ ፡ ሰማይ ፡ አፍራሲሁ ፡ አሌ ፡ ለነ ፡ እስመ ፡ ኀሣርነ ።
Behold, he will come up as clouds, and his chariots will be as the whirlwind. His horses are swifter than eagles. Woe to us! For we are ruined.
4:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ כַּבְּסִ֨י מֵרָעָ֤ה לִבֵּךְ֙ יְר֣וּשָׁלַ֔͏ִם לְמַ֖עַן תִּוָּשֵׁ֑עִי עַד ־מָתַ֛י תָּלִ֥ין בְּקִרְבֵּ֖ךְ מַחְשְׁב֥וֹת אוֹנֵֽךְ ׃
ἀπόπλυνε ἀπὸ κακίας τὴν καρδίαν σου Ιερουσαλημ ἵνα σωθῇς ἕως πότε ὑπάρξουσιν ἐν σοὶ διαλογισμοὶ πόνων σου
Lava a malitia cor tuum , Jerusalem , ut salva fias : usquequo morabuntur in te cogitationes noxiae ?
ኅፅቢ ፡ እከየ ፡ ልብኪ ፡ ኢየሩሳሌም ፡ ከመ ፡ ትድኀኒ ፡ እሰከ ፡ ማዕዜኑ ፡ የኀድር ፡ ላዕሌኪ ፡ ኀሊና ፡ ዘየኀሥረኪ ።
Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long will your evil thoughts lodge within you?
4:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ כִּ֛י ק֥וֹל מַגִּ֖יד מִדָּ֑ן וּמַשְׁמִ֥יעַ אָ֖וֶן מֵהַ֥ר אֶפְרָֽיִם ׃
διότι φωνὴ ἀναγγέλλοντος ἐκ Δαν ἥξει καὶ ἀκουσθήσεται πόνος ἐξ ὄρους Εφραιμ
Vox enim annuntiantis a Dan , et notum facientis idolum de monte Ephraim .
እስመ ፡ መጽአ ፡ ቃል ፡ ዘይዜንወኪ ፡ እምዳን ፡ ወተሰምዕ ፡ ሕማም ፡ እምአድባረ ፡ ኤፍሬም ።
For a voice declares from Dan, and publishes evil from the hills of Ephraim:
4:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ הַזְכִּ֣ירוּ לַגּוֹיִ֗ם הִנֵּה֙ הַשְׁמִ֣יעוּ עַל ־יְרוּשָׁלַ֔͏ִם נֹצְרִ֥ים בָּאִ֖ים מֵאֶ֣רֶץ הַמֶּרְחָ֑ק וַֽיִּתְּנ֛וּ עַל ־עָרֵ֥י יְהוּדָ֖ה קוֹלָֽם ׃
ἀναμνήσατε ἔθνη ἰδοὺ ἥκασιν ἀναγγείλατε ἐν Ιερουσαλημ συστροφαὶ ἔρχονται ἐκ γῆς μακρόθεν καὶ ἔδωκαν ἐπὶ τὰς πόλεις Ιουδα φωνὴν αὐτῶν
Dicite gentibus : Ecce auditum est in Jerusalem custodes venire de terra longinqua , et dare super civitates Juda vocem suam :
አዘክሩ ፡ ለአሕዛብ ፡ ወአስምዑ ፡ ላዕለ ፡ አሕዛብ ፡ ኢየሩሳሌም ፡ ወዜንዉ ፡ መጽኡ ፡ እምርኁቅ ፡ ብሔር ፡ ወይሁቡ ፡ ቃሎሙ ፡ ውስተ ፡ አህጉረ ፡ ይሁዳ ።
“Tell the nations, behold, publish against Jerusalem, ‘Watchers come from a far country, and raise their voice against the cities of Judah.
4:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ כְּשֹׁמְרֵ֣י שָׂדַ֔י הָי֥וּ עָלֶ֖יהָ מִסָּבִ֑יב כִּי ־אֹתִ֥י מָרָ֖תָה נְאֻם ־יְהֹוָֽה ׃
ὡς φυλάσσοντες ἀγρὸν ἐγένοντο ἐπ’ αὐτὴν κύκλῳ ὅτι ἐμοῦ ἠμέλησας λέγει κύριος
quasi custodes agrorum facti sunt super eam in gyro , quia me ad iracundiam provocavit , dicit Dominus .
ከመ ፡ መዓቅበ ፡ ሐቅለ ፡ ዘርዕ ፡ ኮኑ ፡ ላዕሌሃ ፡ እምዓውዳ ።
As keepers of a field, they are against her all around, because she has been rebellious against me,’” says Yahweh.
4:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ דַּרְכֵּךְ֙ וּמַ֣עֲלָלַ֔יִךְ עָשׂ֥וֹ אֵ֖לֶּה לָ֑ךְ זֹ֤את רָעָתֵךְ֙ כִּ֣י מָ֔ר כִּ֥י נָגַ֖ע עַד ־לִבֵּֽךְ ׃ {פ}
αἱ ὁδοί σου καὶ τὰ ἐπιτηδεύματά σου ἐποίησαν ταῦτά σοι αὕτη ἡ κακία σου ὅτι πικρά ὅτι ἥψατο ἕως τῆς καρδίας σου
Viae tuae et cogitationes tuae fecerunt haec tibi : ista malitia tua , quia amara , quia tetigit cor tuum .
እስመ ፡ ተሀየይክኒ ፡ ይቤ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ፍነናውኪ ፡ ወምግባርኪ ፡ ገብረ ፡ ዘንተ ፡ ወዝንቱ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ በእከይኪ ፡ እስመ ፡ መሪር ፡ ረከባ ፡ ለነፍስኪ ።
“Your way and your doings have brought these things to you. This is your wickedness, for it is bitter, for it reaches to your heart.”
4:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ מֵעַ֣י ׀ מֵעַ֨י ׀[אוֹחִ֜ילָה ] (אחולה ) קִיר֥וֹת לִבִּ֛י הֹמֶה ־לִּ֥י לִבִּ֖י לֹ֣א אַחֲרִ֑שׁ כִּ֣י ק֤וֹל שׁוֹפָר֙ (שמעתי ) [שָׁמַ֣עַתְּ ] נַפְשִׁ֔י תְּרוּעַ֖ת מִלְחָמָֽה ׃
τὴν κοιλίαν μου τὴν κοιλίαν μου ἀλγῶ καὶ τὰ αἰσθητήρια τῆς καρδίας μου μαιμάσσει ἡ ψυχή μου σπαράσσεται ἡ καρδία μου οὐ σιωπήσομαι ὅτι φωνὴν σάλπιγγος ἤκουσεν ἡ ψυχή μου κραυγὴν πολέμου
Ventrem meum , ventrem meum doleo ; sensus cordis mei turbati sunt in me . Non tacebo , quoniam vocem buccinae audivit anima mea , clamorem praelii .
ከርሥየ ፡ ወሥርወ ፡ ልብየ ፡ አሕመመኒ ፡ ወነፍስየ ፡ ተአነብዝ ፡ ወተአይስ ፡ ወልብየኒ ፡ ኢያረምም ፡ እስመ ፡ ሰምዐት ፡ ነፍስየ ፡ ቃለ ፡ ቀርን ፡ ወወውዓ ፡ ቀትል ።
My anguish, my anguish! I am pained at my very heart! My heart trembles within me. I can’t hold my peace, because you have heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.
4:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ שֶׁ֤בֶר עַל ־שֶׁ֙בֶר֙ נִקְרָ֔א כִּ֥י שֻׁדְּדָ֖ה כׇּל ־הָאָ֑רֶץ פִּתְאֹם֙ שֻׁדְּד֣וּ אֹֽהָלַ֔י רֶ֖גַע יְרִיעֹתָֽי ׃
καὶ ταλαιπωρίαν συντριμμὸν ἐπικαλεῖται ὅτι τεταλαιπώρηκεν πᾶσα ἡ γῆ ἄφνω τεταλαιπώρηκεν ἡ σκηνή διεσπάσθησαν αἱ δέρρεις μου
Contritio super contritionem vocata est , et vastata est omnis terra : repente vastata sunt tabernacula mea ; subito pelles meae .
ወሕርትምና ፡ ቅጥቃጤ ፡ በዲበ ፡ ቅጥቃጤ ፡ ተጸውዐ ፡ እስመ ፡ ኀሥረት ፡ ኵላ ፡ ምድረ ፡ ግብተ ፡ ወሐርተመ ፡ ተዓይንየ ።
Destruction on destruction is decreed, for the whole land is laid waste. Suddenly my tents are destroyed, and my curtains gone in a moment.
4:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ עַד ־מָתַ֖י אֶרְאֶה ־נֵּ֑ס אֶשְׁמְעָ֖ה ק֥וֹל שׁוֹפָֽר ׃ {פ}
ἕως πότε ὄψομαι φεύγοντας ἀκούων φωνὴν σαλπίγγων
Usquequo videbo fugientem ; audiam vocem buccinae ?
እስከ ፡ ማዕዜኑ ፡ እሬኢ ፡ ትእምርተ ፡ ወእሰምዕ ፡ ቀለ ፡ ቀርን ።
How long will I see the standard and hear the sound of the trumpet?
4:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ כִּ֣י ׀ אֱוִ֣יל עַמִּ֗י אוֹתִי֙ לֹ֣א יָדָ֔עוּ בָּנִ֤ים סְכָלִים֙ הֵ֔מָּה וְלֹ֥א נְבוֹנִ֖ים הֵ֑מָּה חֲכָמִ֥ים הֵ֙מָּה֙ לְהָרַ֔ע וּלְהֵיטִ֖יב לֹ֥א יָדָֽעוּ ׃
διότι οἱ ἡγούμενοι τοῦ λαοῦ μου ἐμὲ οὐκ ᾔδεισαν υἱοὶ ἄφρονές εἰσιν καὶ οὐ συνετοί σοφοί εἰσιν τοῦ κακοποιῆσαι τὸ δὲ καλῶς ποιῆσαι οὐκ ἐπέγνωσαν
Quia stultus populus meus me non cognovit : filii insipientes sunt et vecordes : sapientes sunt ut faciant mala , bene autem facere nescierunt .
እስመ ፡ ኢያእመሩኒ ፡ መኳንንተ ፡ ሕዝብየ ፡ ደቂቅ ፡ አብዳን ፡ እሙንቱ ፡ ወኢያእምሩ ፡ ጠቢባን ፡ እሙንቱ ፡ እስመ ፡ ኢያእመሩ ፡ ገቢረ ፡ ሠናይ ።
“For my people are foolish. They don’t know me. They are foolish children, and they have no understanding. They are skillful in doing evil, but they don’t know how to do good.”
4:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ רָאִ֙יתִי֙ אֶת ־הָאָ֔רֶץ וְהִנֵּה ־תֹ֖הוּ וָבֹ֑הוּ וְאֶל ־הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם וְאֵ֥ין אוֹרָֽם ׃
ἐπέβλεψα ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν καὶ ἰδοὺ οὐθέν καὶ εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν καὶ οὐκ ἦν τὰ φῶτα αὐτοῦ
Aspexi terram , et ecce vacua erat et nihili ; et caelos , et non erat lux in eis .
ነጸርኩ ፡ ምድረ ፡ አልቦ ፡ ወኢምንትኒ ፡ ወአንቃዕኩ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ሰማይ ፡ ወኢሀሎ ፡ በብርሃን ።
I saw the earth and, behold, it was waste and void, and the heavens, and they had no light.
4:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ רָאִ֙יתִי֙ הֶהָרִ֔ים וְהִנֵּ֖ה רֹעֲשִׁ֑ים וְכׇל ־הַגְּבָע֖וֹת הִתְקַלְקָֽלוּ ׃
εἶδον τὰ ὄρη καὶ ἦν τρέμοντα καὶ πάντας τοὺς βουνοὺς ταρασσομένους
Vidi montes , et ecce movebantur : et omnes colles conturbati sunt .
ወርኢኩ ፡ አድባር ፡ ወናሁ ፡ ይርዕዱ ፡ ወኵሉ ፡ አውግር ፡ ያንቀልቅሉ ።
I saw the mountains, and behold, they trembled, and all the hills moved back and forth.
4:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ רָאִ֕יתִי וְהִנֵּ֖ה אֵ֣ין הָאָדָ֑ם וְכׇל ־ע֥וֹף הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם נָדָֽדוּ ׃
ἐπέβλεψα καὶ ἰδοὺ οὐκ ἦν ἄνθρωπος καὶ πάντα τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ ἐπτοεῖτο
Intuitus sum , et non erat homo : et omne volatile caeli recessit .
ነጸርኩ ፡ ወአልቦ ፡ ሰብእ ፡ ወደንገጹ ፡ አዕዋፈ ፡ ሰማይ ፡ ወነጸርኩ ፡ ወርኢክዎ ፡ ለቀርሜሎስ ፡ መዝበረ ፡ ወኵሉ ፡ አህጉር ፡ ውዕዩ ፡ በእሳት ፡ እምገጸ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ እምገጸ ፡ መቅሠፍተ ፡ መዓቱ ።
I saw, and behold, there was no man, and all the birds of the sky had fled.
4:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ רָאִ֕יתִי וְהִנֵּ֥ה הַכַּרְמֶ֖ל הַמִּדְבָּ֑ר וְכׇל ־עָרָ֗יו נִתְּצוּ֙ מִפְּנֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֔ה מִפְּנֵ֖י חֲר֥וֹן אַפּֽוֹ ׃ {ס}
εἶδον καὶ ἰδοὺ ὁ Κάρμηλος ἔρημος καὶ πᾶσαι αἱ πόλεις ἐμπεπυρισμέναι πυρὶ ἀπὸ προσώπου κυρίου καὶ ἀπὸ προσώπου ὀργῆς θυμοῦ αὐτοῦ ἠφανίσθησαν
Aspexi , et ecce Carmelus desertus , et omnes urbes ejus destructae sunt a facie Domini , et a facie irae furoris ejus .
በለበለበለበ ።
I saw, and behold, the fruitful field was a wilderness, and all its cities were broken down at the presence of Yahweh, before his fierce anger.
4:27 ⧉ ⤴︎ כִּי ־כֹה֙ אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֔ה שְׁמָמָ֥ה תִֽהְיֶ֖ה כׇּל ־הָאָ֑רֶץ וְכָלָ֖ה לֹ֥א אֶעֱשֶֽׂה ׃
τάδε λέγει κύριος ἔρημος ἔσται πᾶσα ἡ γῆ συντέλειαν δὲ οὐ μὴ ποιήσω
Haec enim dicit Dominus : Deserta erit omnis terra , sed tamen consummationem non faciam .
እስመ ፡ ከመዝ ፡ ይቤ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ በድወ ፡ ትኩን ፡ ኵላ ፡ ምድር ፡ ወኢይገብር ፡ ማኅለቅተ ፡ ለእሉ ።
For Yahweh says, “The whole land will be a desolation; yet I will not make a full end.
4:28 ⧉ ⤴︎ עַל ־זֹאת֙ תֶּאֱבַ֣ל הָאָ֔רֶץ וְקָדְר֥וּ הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם מִמָּ֑עַל עַ֤ל כִּֽי ־דִבַּ֙רְתִּי֙ זַמֹּ֔תִי וְלֹ֥א נִחַ֖מְתִּי וְלֹא ־אָשׁ֥וּב מִמֶּֽנָּה ׃
ἐπὶ τούτοις πενθείτω ἡ γῆ καὶ συσκοτασάτω ὁ οὐρανὸς ἄνωθεν διότι ἐλάλησα καὶ οὐ μετανοήσω ὥρμησα καὶ οὐκ ἀποστρέψω ἀπ’ αὐτῆς
Lugebit terra , et moerebunt caeli desuper , eo quod locutus sum . Cogitavi , et non poenituit me , nec aversus sum ab eo .
በእንተ ፡ ዝንተ ፡ ትላሁ ፡ ምድር ፡ ወይጸልም ፡ ሰማይ ፡ በላዕሉ ፡ እስመ ፡ ነበብኩ ፡ ወኢይኔሥሕ ፡ አውረድክዋ ፡ ወኢይትመየጥ ፡ መዓትይ ፡ እምኔሃ ።
For this the earth will mourn, and the heavens above be black, because I have spoken it. I have planned it, and I have not repented, neither will I turn back from it.”
4:29 ⧉ ⤴︎ מִקּ֨וֹל פָּרָ֜שׁ וְרֹ֣מֵה קֶ֗שֶׁת בֹּרַ֙חַת֙ כׇּל ־הָעִ֔יר בָּ֚אוּ בֶּעָבִ֔ים וּבַכֵּפִ֖ים עָל֑וּ כׇּל ־הָעִ֣יר עֲזוּבָ֔ה וְאֵין ־יוֹשֵׁ֥ב בָּהֵ֖ן אִֽישׁ ׃
ἀπὸ φωνῆς ἱππέως καὶ ἐντεταμένου τόξου ἀνεχώρησεν πᾶσα χώρα εἰσέδυσαν εἰς τὰ σπήλαια καὶ εἰς τὰ ἄλση ἐκρύβησαν καὶ ἐπὶ τὰς πέτρας ἀνέβησαν πᾶσα πόλις ἐγκατελείφθη οὐ κατοικεῖ ἐν αὐταῖς ἄνθρωπος
A voce equitis et mittentis sagittam fugit omnis civitas : ingressi sunt ardua , et ascenderunt rupes : universae urbes derelictae sunt , et non habitat in eis homo .
እምነ ፡ ውውዓሆሙ ፡ ለሰብዓ ፡ አፍራስ ፡ ወእለ ፡ ወሰቁ ፡ አቅስስቲሆሙ ፡ ወተጉ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ በሐውርት ፡ ወተጸወኑ ፡ ውስተ ፡ በአታት ፡ ወተኀብኡ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ዖም ፡ ወዐርጉ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ጸልዋት ፡ ወዐርቁ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ አህጉር ፡ ወአልቦ ፡ ዘይነብር ፡ ውስቴቶሙ ፡ ሰብእ ።
Every city flees for the noise of the horsemen and archers. They go into the thickets and climb up on the rocks. Every city is forsaken, and not a man dwells therein.
4:30 ⧉ ⤴︎ (ואתי ) [וְאַ֨תְּ ] שָׁד֜וּד מַֽה ־תַּעֲשִׂ֗י כִּֽי ־תִלְבְּשִׁ֨י שָׁנִ֜י כִּֽי ־תַעְדִּ֣י עֲדִֽי ־זָהָ֗ב כִּֽי ־תִקְרְעִ֤י בַפּוּךְ֙ עֵינַ֔יִךְ לַשָּׁ֖וְא תִּתְיַפִּ֑י מָאֲסוּ ־בָ֥ךְ עֹגְבִ֖ים נַפְשֵׁ֥ךְ יְבַקֵּֽשׁוּ ׃
καὶ σὺ τί ποιήσεις ἐὰν περιβάλῃ κόκκινον καὶ κοσμήσῃ κόσμῳ χρυσῷ καὶ ἐὰν ἐγχρίσῃ στίβι τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς σου εἰς μάτην ὁ ὡραϊσμός σου ἀπώσαντό σε οἱ ἐρασταί σου τὴν ψυχήν σου ζητοῦσιν
Tu autem vastata , quid facies ? cum vestieris te coccino , cum ornata fueris monili aureo , et pinxeris stibio oculos tuos , frustra componeris : contempserunt te amatores tui ; animam tuam quaerent .
ምንት ፡ ተሬስዪ ፡ አንቲ ፡ እመሂ ፡ ለበስኪ ፡ ለየ ፡ ወተሠርገውኪ ፡ ሠርጐ ፡ ወርቅ ፡ ወእመኒ ፡ ተኵህልኪ ፡ ኵህለ ፡ አዕይንተኪ ፡ አእምሪ ፡ ከመ ፡ ከንቶ ፡ ተሠርገውኪ ፡ ወከንቱ ፡ ላህይኪ ፡ ጸልዑኪ ፡ መሐዛንኪ ፡ ወየኀሥሥዋ ፡ ለነፍስኪ ፡ እስመ ፡ ቃሉ ፡ ዘይጽዕለኪ ፡ ወሰማዕኩ ፡ ገዓረኪ ፡ ከመእንተ ፡ ትውልድ ፡ በኵራ ፡ ቃለ ፡ ወለተ ፡ ጽዮን ፡ ደክማመ ፡ ወትሰፍሕ ፡ እደዊሃ ፡ አሌ ፡ ሊተ ፡ እስመ ፡ ኀልቀት ፡ ነፍስየ ፡ በእንተ ፡ እለ ፡ ተቀትሉ ።
You, when you are made desolate, what will you do? Though you clothe yourself with scarlet, though you deck yourself with ornaments of gold, though you enlarge your eyes with makeup, you make yourself beautiful in vain. Your lovers despise you. They seek your life.
4:31 ⧉ ⤴︎ כִּי֩ ק֨וֹל כְּחוֹלָ֜ה שָׁמַ֗עְתִּי צָרָה֙ כְּמַבְכִּירָ֔ה ק֧וֹל בַּת ־צִיּ֛וֹן תִּתְיַפֵּ֖חַ תְּפָרֵ֣שׂ כַּפֶּ֑יהָ אֽוֹי ־נָ֣א לִ֔י כִּֽי ־עָיְפָ֥ה נַפְשִׁ֖י לְהֹרְגִֽים ׃ {פ}
ὅτι φωνὴν ὡς ὠδινούσης ἤκουσα τοῦ στεναγμοῦ σου ὡς πρωτοτοκούσης φωνὴ θυγατρὸς Σιων ἐκλυθήσεται καὶ παρήσει τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῆς οἴμμοι ἐγώ ὅτι ἐκλείπει ἡ ψυχή μου ἐπὶ τοῖς ἀνῃρημένοις
Vocem enim quasi parturientis audivi , angustias ut puerperae : vox filiae Sion intermorientis , expandentisque manus suas : Vae mihi , quia defecit anima mea propter interfectos !
— For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, the anguish as of her who gives birth to her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, who gasps for breath, who spreads her hands, saying, “Woe is me now! For my soul faints before the murderers.”
