40:1
הַדָּבָ֞ר אֲשֶׁר־הָיָ֤ה אֶֽל־יִרְמְיָ֙הוּ֙ מֵאֵ֣ת יְהֹוָ֔ה אַחַ֣ר׀ שַׁלַּ֣ח אֹת֗וֹ נְבוּזַרְאֲדָ֛ן רַב־טַבָּחִ֖ים מִן־הָרָמָ֑ה בְּקַחְתּ֣וֹ אֹת֗וֹ וְהֽוּא־אָס֤וּר בָּֽאזִקִּים֙ בְּת֨וֹךְ כׇּל־גָּל֤וּת יְרוּשָׁלַ֙͏ִם֙ וִֽיהוּדָ֔ה הַמֻּגְלִ֖ים בָּבֶֽלָה׃
καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου πρὸς Ιερεμιαν δεύτερον καὶ αὐτὸς ἦν ἔτι δεδεμένος ἐν τῇ αὐλῇ τῆς φυλακῆς λέγων
Sermo qui factus est ad Jeremiam a Domino, postquam dimissus est a Nabuzardan magistro militiae de Rama, quando tulit eum vinctum catenis in medio omnium qui migrabant de Jerusalem et Juda, et ducebantur in Babylonem.
ቃለ፡ ዘኮነ፡ ኀበ፡ ኤርምያስ፡ እምኀበ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ እምድኅረ፡ ፈነዎ፡ ናቡዛርዳን፡ ሊቀ፡ መበስላን፡ እምራማ፡ ሶበ፡ ነሥእዎ፡ እንዘ፡ እሱር፡ በማእሰር፡ በማእከለ፡ ኵሉ፡ ፈላስያን፡ ዘኢየሩሳሌም፡ ወይሁዳ፡ እለ፡ ተፄወዉ፡ ውስተ፡ ባቢሎን።
The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, after Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all the captives of Jerusalem and Judah who were carried away captive to Babylon.
40:2
וַיִּקַּ֥ח רַב־טַבָּחִ֖ים לְיִרְמְיָ֑הוּ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֔יו יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ דִּבֶּר֙ אֶת־הָרָעָ֣ה הַזֹּ֔את אֶל־הַמָּק֖וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃
οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος ποιῶν γῆν καὶ πλάσσων αὐτὴν τοῦ ἀνορθῶσαι αὐτήν κύριος ὄνομα αὐτῷ
Tollens ergo princeps militiae Jeremiam, dixit ad eum : Dominus Deus tuus locutus est malum hoc super locum istum :
ወነሥኦ፡ ሊቀ፡ መበስላን፡ ለኤርምያስ፡ ወይቤሎ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አምላክከ፡ ነበበ፡ ዘንተ፡ እኩየ፡ በዝንቱ፡ መካን።
The captain of the guard took Jeremiah and said to him, “Yahweh your God pronounced this evil on this place;
40:3
וַיָּבֵ֥א וַיַּ֛עַשׂ יְהֹוָ֖ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֵּ֑ר כִּֽי־חֲטָאתֶ֤ם לַֽיהֹוָה֙ וְלֹא־שְׁמַעְתֶּ֣ם בְּקוֹל֔וֹ וְהָיָ֥ה לָכֶ֖ם (דבר) [הַדָּבָ֥ר] הַזֶּֽה׃
κέκραξον πρός με καὶ ἀποκριθήσομαί σοι καὶ ἀπαγγελῶ σοι μεγάλα καὶ ἰσχυρά ἃ οὐκ ἔγνως αὐτά
et adduxit, et fecit Dominus sicut locutus est, quia peccastis Domino, et non audistis vocem ejus : et factus est vobis sermo hic.
ወገብረ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ በከመ፡ ነበበ፡ እስመ፡ አበስክሙ፡ ሎቱ፡ ወኢስማዕክሙ፡ ቃሎ፡ ወኮነ፡ ብክሙ፡ ዝንቱ፡ ነገር።
and Yahweh has brought it, and done according as he spoke. Because you have sinned against Yahweh, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing has come on you.
40:4
וְעַתָּ֞ה הִנֵּ֧ה פִתַּחְתִּ֣יךָ הַיּ֗וֹם מִֽן־הָאזִקִּים֮ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עַל־יָדֶ֒ךָ֒ אִם־ט֨וֹב בְּעֵינֶ֜יךָ לָב֧וֹא אִתִּ֣י בָבֶ֗ל בֹּ֚א וְאָשִׂ֤ים אֶת־עֵינִי֙ עָלֶ֔יךָ וְאִם־רַ֧ע בְּעֵינֶ֛יךָ לָבֽוֹא־אִתִּ֥י בָבֶ֖ל חֲדָ֑ל רְאֵה֙ כׇּל־הָאָ֣רֶץ לְפָנֶ֔יךָ אֶל־ט֨וֹב וְאֶל־הַיָּשָׁ֧ר בְּעֵינֶ֛יךָ לָלֶ֥כֶת שָׁ֖מָּה לֵֽךְ׃
ὅτι οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς Ισραηλ περὶ οἴκων τῆς πόλεως ταύτης καὶ περὶ οἴκων βασιλέως Ιουδα τῶν καθῃρημένων εἰς χάρακας καὶ προμαχῶνας
Nunc ergo ecce solvi te hodie de catenis quae sunt in manibus tuis : si placet tibi ut venias mecum in Babylonem, veni, et ponam oculos meos super te : si autem displicet tibi venire mecum in Babylonem, reside : ecce omnis terra in conspectu tuo est : quod elegeris, et quo placuerit tibi ut vadas, illuc perge :
ወይእዜ፡ ናሁ፡ ፈታሕኩከ፡ እምነ፡ መዋቅሕቲከ፡ ዘእዴከ።
Now, behold, I release you today from the chains which are on your hand. If it seems good to you to come with me into Babylon, come, and I will take care of you; but if it seems bad to you to come with me into Babylon, don’t. Behold, all the land is before you. Where it seems good and right to you to go, go there.”
40:5
וְעוֹדֶ֣נּוּ לֹֽא־יָשׁ֗וּב וְשֻׁ֡בָה אֶל־גְּדַלְיָ֣ה בֶן־אֲחִיקָ֣ם בֶּן־שָׁפָ֡ן אֲשֶׁר֩ הִפְקִ֨יד מֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֜ל בְּעָרֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֗ה וְשֵׁ֤ב אִתּוֹ֙ בְּת֣וֹךְ הָעָ֔ם א֠וֹ אֶל־כׇּל־הַיָּשָׁ֧ר בְּעֵינֶ֛יךָ לָלֶ֖כֶת לֵ֑ךְ וַיִּתֶּן־ל֧וֹ רַב־טַבָּחִ֛ים אֲרֻחָ֥ה וּמַשְׂאֵ֖ת וַֽיְשַׁלְּחֵֽהוּ׃
τοῦ μάχεσθαι πρὸς τοὺς Χαλδαίους καὶ πληρῶσαι αὐτὴν τῶν νεκρῶν τῶν ἀνθρώπων οὓς ἐπάταξα ἐν ὀργῇ μου καὶ ἐν θυμῷ μου καὶ ἀπέστρεψα τὸ πρόσωπόν μου ἀπ’ αὐτῶν περὶ πασῶν τῶν πονηριῶν αὐτῶν
et mecum noli venire, sed habita apud Godoliam filium Ahicam filii Saphan, quem praeposuit rex Babylonis civitatibus Juda : habita ergo cum eo in medio populi : vel quocumque placuerit tibi ut vadas, vade. Dedit quoque ei magister militiae cibaria et munuscula, et dimisit eum.
ወግባእ፡ ኀበ፡ ጎዶልያን፡ ወልደ፡ አኪቃም፡ ወልደ፡ ሳፋን፡ ዘረሰዮ፡ ንጉሠ፡ ባቢሎብን፡ ለምድረ፡ ይሁዳ፡ ወንበር፡ ምስሌሁ፡ ማእከለ፡ ሕዝብ፡ አው፡ ኀበ፡ ዘአደመከ፡ ለአዕይንቲከ፡ ሐዊረ፡ ተሐውር።
Now while he had not yet gone back, “Go back then,” he said, “to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people; or go wherever it seems right to you to go.” So the captain of the guard gave him food and a present, and let him go.
40:6
וַיָּבֹ֧א יִרְמְיָ֛הוּ אֶל־גְּדַלְיָ֥ה בֶן־אֲחִיקָ֖ם הַמִּצְפָּ֑תָה וַיֵּ֤שֶׁב אִתּוֹ֙ בְּת֣וֹךְ הָעָ֔ם הַנִּשְׁאָרִ֖ים בָּאָֽרֶץ׃ {פ}
ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἀνάγω αὐτῇ συνούλωσιν καὶ ἴαμα καὶ φανερώσω αὐτοῖς εἰσακούειν καὶ ἰατρεύσω αὐτὴν καὶ ποιήσω αὐτοῖς εἰρήνην καὶ πίστιν
Venit autem Jeremias ad Godoliam filium Ahicam in Masphath, et habitavit cum eo in medio populi qui relictus fuerat in terra.
ወሖረ፡ ኤርምያስ፡ ኀበ፡ ጎዶልያን፡ ወልደ፡ አኪቃም፡ መሴፋ፡ ወነበረ፡ ማእከለ፡ ሕዝብ፡ ተራፍያን፡ በምድር።
Then Jeremiah went to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah, and lived with him among the people who were left in the land.
40:7
וַיִּשְׁמְעוּ֩ כׇל־שָׂרֵ֨י הַחֲיָלִ֜ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּשָּׂדֶ֗ה הֵ֚מָּה וְאַנְשֵׁיהֶ֔ם כִּֽי־הִפְקִ֧יד מֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֛ל אֶת־גְּדַלְיָ֥הוּ בֶן־אֲחִיקָ֖ם בָּאָ֑רֶץ וְכִ֣י׀ הִפְקִ֣יד אִתּ֗וֹ אֲנָשִׁ֤ים וְנָשִׁים֙ וָטָ֔ף וּמִדַּלַּ֣ת הָאָ֔רֶץ מֵאֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא־הׇגְל֖וּ בָּבֶֽלָה׃
καὶ ἐπιστρέψω τὴν ἀποικίαν Ιουδα καὶ τὴν ἀποικίαν Ισραηλ καὶ οἰκοδομήσω αὐτοὺς καθὼς τὸ πρότερον
Cumque audissent omnes principes exercitus, qui dispersi fuerant per regiones, ipsi et socii eorum, quod praefecisset rex Babylonis Godoliam filium Ahicam terrae, et quod commendasset ei viros, et mulieres, et parvulos, et de pauperibus terrae, qui non fuerant translati in Babylonem,
ወሰምዑ፡ ኵሉ፡ መሳፍንተ፡ ኃይሎሙ፡ እለ፡ እምገዳም፡ እሙንቱ፡ ወዕደዊሆሙ፡ ከመ፡ ሤሞ፡ ንጉሠ፡ ባቢሎን፡ ለጎዶልያን፡ ወልደ፡ አኪቃም፡ ውስተ፡ ምድር፡ ወከመ፡ አዕቀቦ፡ ዕደወ፡ ወአንስተ፡ ወሕፃናተ፡ ወነዳያነ፡ ምድር፡ እለ፡ ኢፈለሱ፡ ባቢሎን።
Now when all the captains of the forces who were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed to him men, women, children, and of the poorest of the land, of those who were not carried away captive to Babylon,
40:8
וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ אֶל־גְּדַלְיָ֖ה הַמִּצְפָּ֑תָה וְיִשְׁמָעֵ֣אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָ֡הוּ וְיוֹחָנָ֣ן וְיוֹנָתָ֣ן בְּנֵֽי־קָ֠רֵ֠חַ וּשְׂרָיָ֨ה בֶן־תַּנְחֻ֜מֶת וּבְנֵ֣י׀ (עופי) [עֵיפַ֣י] הַנְּטֹפָתִ֗י וִֽיזַנְיָ֙הוּ֙ בֶּן־הַמַּ֣עֲכָתִ֔י הֵ֖מָּה וְאַנְשֵׁיהֶֽם׃
καὶ καθαριῶ αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ πασῶν τῶν ἀδικιῶν αὐτῶν ὧν ἡμάρτοσάν μοι καὶ οὐ μὴ μνησθήσομαι ἁμαρτιῶν αὐτῶν ὧν ἥμαρτόν μοι καὶ ἀπέστησαν ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ
venerunt ad Godoliam in Masphath, et Ismahel filius Nathaniae, et Johanan et Jonathan filii Caree, et Sareas filius Thanehumeth, et filii Ophi, qui erant de Netophathi, et Jezonias filius Maachathi, ipsi et viri eorum.
ወሖሩ፡ ኀበ፡ ጎዶልያን፡ መሴፋ፡ ይስማኤል፡ ወልደ፡ ናታንዩ፡ ወዮሐናን፡ ወልደ፡ ቃርሔ፡ ወሳርያስ፡ ወልደ፡ ናታናሔሜት፡ ወደቂቀ፡ ዖፌ፡ ወልደ፡ ኔጦፋጤ፡ ወኢያዛንያስ፡ ወልደ፡ ሞቃጤ፡ እሙንቱ፡ ወሰብኦሙ።
then Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of the Maacathite, they and their men came to Gedaliah to Mizpah.
40:9
וַיִּשָּׁבַ֨ע לָהֶ֜ם גְּדַלְיָ֨הוּ בֶן־אֲחִיקָ֤ם בֶּן־שָׁפָן֙ וּלְאַנְשֵׁיהֶ֣ם לֵאמֹ֔ר אַל־תִּֽירְא֖וּ מֵעֲב֣וֹד הַכַּשְׂדִּ֑ים שְׁב֣וּ בָאָ֗רֶץ וְעִבְד֛וּ אֶת־מֶ֥לֶךְ בָּבֶ֖ל וְיִיטַ֥ב לָכֶֽם׃
καὶ ἔσται εἰς εὐφροσύνην καὶ εἰς αἴνεσιν καὶ εἰς μεγαλειότητα παντὶ τῷ λαῷ τῆς γῆς οἵτινες ἀκούσονται πάντα τὰ ἀγαθά ἃ ἐγὼ ποιήσω καὶ φοβηθήσονται καὶ πικρανθήσονται περὶ πάντων τῶν ἀγαθῶν καὶ περὶ πάσης τῆς εἰρήνης ἧς ἐγὼ ποιήσω αὐτοῖς
Et juravit eis Godolias filius Ahicam filii Saphan, et comitibus eorum, dicens : Nolite timere servire Chaldaeis : habitate in terra, et servite regi Babylonis, et bene erit vobis.
ወመሐለ፡ ሎሙ፡ ጎዶልያን፡ ወልደ፡ አኪቃም፡ ወልደ፡ ሳፋን፡ በእንቲአሆሙ፡ ምስለ፡ ሰብኦሙ፡ ወይቤሎሙ፡ ኢትፍርሁ፡ እምተቀንዮ፡ ከለዳውያን፡ ንበሩ፡ ውስተ፡ ምድር፡ ወተቀነዩ፡ ለንጉሠ፡ ባቢሎን፡ ወይኄይሰክሙ።
Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan swore to them and to their men, saying, “Don’t be afraid to serve the Chaldeans. Dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it will be well with you.
40:10
וַאֲנִ֗י הִנְנִ֤י יֹשֵׁב֙ בַּמִּצְפָּ֔ה לַֽעֲמֹד֙ לִפְנֵ֣י הַכַּשְׂדִּ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר יָבֹ֖אוּ אֵלֵ֑ינוּ וְאַתֶּ֡ם אִסְפוּ֩ יַ֨יִן וְקַ֜יִץ וְשֶׁ֗מֶן וְשִׂ֙מוּ֙ בִּכְלֵיכֶ֔ם וּשְׁב֖וּ בְּעָרֵיכֶ֥ם אֲשֶׁר־תְּפַשְׂתֶּֽם׃
οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος ἔτι ἀκουσθήσεται ἐν τῷ τόπῳ τούτῳ ᾧ ὑμεῖς λέγετε ἔρημός ἐστιν ἀπὸ ἀνθρώπων καὶ κτηνῶν ἐν πόλεσιν Ιουδα καὶ ἔξωθεν Ιερουσαλημ ταῖς ἠρημωμέναις παρὰ τὸ μὴ εἶναι ἄνθρωπον καὶ κτήνη
Ecce ego habito in Masphath, ut respondeam praecepto Chaldaeorum qui mittuntur ad nos : vos autem colligite vindemiam, et messem, et oleum, et condite in vasis vestris, et manete in urbibus vestris quas tenetis.
ወነየ፡ አነ፡ እነብር፡ ማእከሎሙ፡ በመሴፋ፡ ወእቀውም፡ ውስተ፡ ገጾሙ፡ ለከለዳውያን፡ እለ፡ ይመጽኡ፡ ኀቤነ፡ ወአንትሙሰ፡ አስተጋብኡ፡ ወይነ፡ ወቀምሐ፡ ወቅብአ፡ ወደዩ፡ ውስተ፡ ቀሣውቲክሙ፡ ወኅድሩ፡ ውስተ፡ አህጉር፡ ዘአኀዝክሙ።
As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldeans who will come to us; but you, gather wine and summer fruits and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that you have taken.”
40:11
וְגַ֣ם כׇּֽל־הַיְּהוּדִ֡ים אֲשֶׁר־בְּמוֹאָ֣ב׀ וּבִבְנֵֽי־עַמּ֨וֹן וּבֶאֱד֜וֹם וַאֲשֶׁ֤ר בְּכׇל־הָֽאֲרָצוֹת֙ שָֽׁמְע֔וּ כִּֽי־נָתַ֧ן מֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֛ל שְׁאֵרִ֖ית לִיהוּדָ֑ה וְכִי֙ הִפְקִ֣יד עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם אֶת־גְּדַלְיָ֖הוּ בֶּן־אֲחִיקָ֥ם בֶּן־שָׁפָֽן׃
φωνὴ εὐφροσύνης καὶ φωνὴ χαρμοσύνης φωνὴ νυμφίου καὶ φωνὴ νύμφης φωνὴ λεγόντων ἐξομολογεῖσθε κυρίῳ παντοκράτορι ὅτι χρηστὸς κύριος ὅτι εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα τὸ ἔλεος αὐτοῦ καὶ εἰσοίσουσιν δῶρα εἰς οἶκον κυρίου ὅτι ἀποστρέψω πᾶσαν τὴν ἀποικίαν τῆς γῆς ἐκείνης κατὰ τὸ πρότερον εἶπεν κύριος
Sed et omnes Judaei qui erant in Moab, et in filiis Ammon, et in Idumaea, et in universis regionibus, audito quod dedisset rex Babylonis reliquias in Judaea, et quod praeposuisset super eos Godoliam filium Ahicam filii Saphan,
ወኵሉ፡ አይሁድ፡ እለ፡ ውስተ፡ ምድረ፡ ሞአብ፡ ወደቂቀ፡ አሞን፡ ወበኤዶም፡ ወኵሎሙ፡ እለ፡ ውስተ፡ ኵሉ፡ ምድር፡ ሰምዑ፡ ከመ፡ ወሀቦ፡ ንጉሠ፡ ባቢሎን፡ ተረፈ፡ ይሁዳ፡ ወከመ፡ ሤሞ፡ ላዕሌሆሙ፡ ለጎዶልያን፡ ወልደ፡ አኪቃም፡ ወልደ፡ ሳፋን።
Likewise when all the Jews who were in Moab, and among the children of Ammon, and in Edom, and who were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan,
40:12
וַיָּשֻׁ֣בוּ כׇל־הַיְּהוּדִ֗ים מִכׇּל־הַמְּקֹמוֹת֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נִדְּחוּ־שָׁ֔ם וַיָּבֹ֧אוּ אֶרֶץ־יְהוּדָ֛ה אֶל־גְּדַלְיָ֖הוּ הַמִּצְפָּ֑תָה וַיַּאַסְפ֛וּ יַ֥יִן וָקַ֖יִץ הַרְבֵּ֥ה מְאֹֽד׃ {ס}
οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος τῶν δυνάμεων ἔτι ἔσται ἐν τῷ τόπῳ τούτῳ τῷ ἐρήμῳ παρὰ τὸ μὴ εἶναι ἄνθρωπον καὶ κτῆνος καὶ ἐν πάσαις ταῖς πόλεσιν αὐτοῦ καταλύματα ποιμένων κοιταζόντων πρόβατα
reversi sunt, inquam, omnes Judaei de universis locis ad quae profugerant, et venerunt in terram Juda ad Godoliam in Masphath, et collegerunt vinum et messem multam nimis.
ወተመይጡ፡ ኵሎሙ፡ አይሁድ፡ እምኵሉ፡ መካናት፡ እምኀበ፡ ተዘርዉ፡ ህየ፡ ወመጽኡ፡ ውስተ፡ ምድረ፡ ይሁዳ፡ ኀበ፡ ጎዶልያን፡ ውስተ፡ መሴፋ፡ ወአስተጋብኡ፡ ወይነ፡ ወቀምሐ፡ ብዙኀ፡ ፈድፋደ።
then all the Jews returned out of all places where they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and gathered very much wine and summer fruits.
40:13
וְיֽוֹחָנָן֙ בֶּן־קָרֵ֔חַ וְכׇל־שָׂרֵ֥י הַחֲיָלִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּשָּׂדֶ֑ה בָּ֥אוּ אֶל־גְּדַלְיָ֖הוּ הַמִּצְפָּֽתָה׃
ἐν πόλεσιν τῆς ὀρεινῆς καὶ ἐν πόλεσιν τῆς Σεφηλα καὶ ἐν πόλεσιν τῆς Ναγεβ καὶ ἐν γῇ Βενιαμιν καὶ ἐν ταῖς κύκλῳ Ιερουσαλημ καὶ ἐν πόλεσιν Ιουδα ἔτι παρελεύσεται πρόβατα ἐπὶ χεῖρα ἀριθμοῦντος εἶπεν κύριος
Johanan autem filius Caree, et omnes principes exercitus qui dispersi fuerant in regionibus, venerunt ad Godoliam in Masphath,
ወዮሐናን፡ ወልደ፡ ቃርሔ፡ ወኵሉ፡ መሳፍንተ፡ ኃይሎሙ፡ እለ፡ ውስተ፡ ገዳም፡ መጽኡ፡ ኀበ፡ ጎዶልያን፡ ውስተ፡ መሴፋ።
Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were in the fields, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,
40:14
וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ אֵלָ֗יו הֲיָדֹ֤עַ תֵּדַע֙ כִּ֞י בַּעֲלִ֣יס׀ מֶ֣לֶךְ בְּנֵֽי־עַמּ֗וֹן שָׁלַח֙ אֶת־יִשְׁמָעֵ֣אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָ֔ה לְהַכֹּתְךָ֖ נָ֑פֶשׁ וְלֹא־הֶאֱמִ֣ין לָהֶ֔ם גְּדַלְיָ֖הוּ בֶּן־אֲחִיקָֽם׃

et dixerunt ei : Scito quod Baalis, rex filiorum Ammon, misit Ismahel filium Nathaniae percutere animam tuam. Et non credidit eis Godolias filius Ahicam.
ወይቤልዎ፡ እመ፡ አእምሮ፡ ተአምር፡ ከመ፡ በዓሊም፡ ንጉሠ፡ ደቂቀ፡ አሞን፡ ፈነወ፡ ይስማኤልሃ፡ ወልደ፡ ናታንዩ፡ ኀቤከ፡ ከመ፡ ይቅትል፡ ነፍሰከ።
and said to him, “Do you know that Baalis the king of the children of Ammon has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to take your life?” But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam didn’t believe them.
40:15
וְיוֹחָנָ֣ן בֶּן־קָרֵ֡חַ אָמַ֣ר אֶל־גְּדַלְיָהוּ֩ בַסֵּ֨תֶר בַּמִּצְפָּ֜ה לֵאמֹ֗ר אֵ֤לְכָה נָּא֙ וְאַכֶּה֙ אֶת־יִשְׁמָעֵ֣אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָ֔ה וְאִ֖ישׁ לֹ֣א יֵדָ֑ע לָ֧מָּה יַכֶּ֣כָּה נֶּ֗פֶשׁ וְנָפֹ֙צוּ֙ כׇּל־יְהוּדָה֙ הַנִּקְבָּצִ֣ים אֵלֶ֔יךָ וְאָבְדָ֖ה שְׁאֵרִ֥ית יְהוּדָֽה׃

Johanan autem filius Caree dixit ad Godoliam seorsum in Masphath, loquens : Ibo, et percutiam Ismahel filium Nathaniae, nullo sciente, ne interficiat animam tuam, et dissipentur omnes Judaei qui congregati sunt ad te, et peribunt reliquiae Juda.
ወዮሐናን፡ ወልደ፡ ቃርሔ፡ ይቤሎ፡ ለጎዶልያን፡ በኅቡእ፡ በመሴፋ፡ እሑር፡ እቅትሎ፡ ለእስማኤል፡ ወልደ፡ ናታንዩ፡ እንዘ፡ አልቦ፡ ዘየአምር፡ ከመ፡ ኢይቅትል፡ ነፍሰከ፡ ወይዘረዉ፡ ኵሎሙ፡ አይሁድ፡ እለ፡ ተጋብኡ፡ ኀቤከ፡ ወይትሐጐሉ፡ እለ፡ ተርፉ፡ አይሁድ።
Then Johanan the son of Kareah spoke to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, “Please let me go, and I will kill Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man will know it. Why should he take your life, that all the Jews who are gathered to you should be scattered, and the remnant of Judah perish?”
40:16
וַיֹּ֨אמֶר גְּדַלְיָ֤הוּ בֶן־אֲחִיקָם֙ אֶל־יוֹחָנָ֣ן בֶּן־קָרֵ֔חַ אַֽל־[תַּעֲשֵׂ֖ה] (תעש) אֶת־הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֑ה כִּי־שֶׁ֛קֶר אַתָּ֥ה דֹבֵ֖ר אֶל־יִשְׁמָעֵֽאל׃ {פ}
—
Et ait Godolias filius Ahicam ad Johanan filium Caree : Noli facere verbum hoc : falsum enim tu loqueris de Ismahel.
ወይቤሎ፡ ጎዶልያን፡ ወልደ፡ አኪቃም፡ ለዮሐናን፡ ወልደ፡ ቃርሔ፡ ኢትግበር፡ ዘንተ፡ ነገረ፡ እስመ፡ ሐሰተ፡ ትብል፡ አንተ፡ ላዕለ፡ ይስማኤል።
But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said to Johanan the son of Kareah, “You shall not do this thing, for you speak falsely of Ishmael.”
