8:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ בָּעֵ֣ת הַהִ֣יא נְאֻם ־יְהֹוָ֡ה (ויציאו ) [יוֹצִ֣יאוּ ] אֶת ־עַצְמ֣וֹת מַלְכֵי ־יְהוּדָ֣ה וְאֶת ־עַצְמוֹת ־שָׂרָיו֩ וְאֶת ־עַצְמ֨וֹת הַכֹּהֲנִ֜ים וְאֵ֣ת ׀ עַצְמ֣וֹת הַנְּבִיאִ֗ים וְאֵ֛ת עַצְמ֥וֹת יוֹשְׁבֵֽי ־יְרוּשָׁלָ֖͏ִם מִקִּבְרֵיהֶֽם ׃
ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ λέγει κύριος ἐξοίσουσιν τὰ ὀστᾶ τῶν βασιλέων Ιουδα καὶ τὰ ὀστᾶ τῶν ἀρχόντων αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ ὀστᾶ τῶν ἱερέων καὶ τὰ ὀστᾶ τῶν προφητῶν καὶ τὰ ὀστᾶ τῶν κατοικούντων Ιερουσαλημ ἐκ τῶν τάφων αὐτῶν
In illo tempore , ait Dominus , ejicient ossa regum Juda , et ossa principum ejus , et ossa sacerdotum , et ossa prophetarum , et ossa eorum qui habitaverunt Jerusalem , de sepulchris suis :
ይእቲ ፡ አሚረ ፡ ይ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ያወጽኡ ፡ አዕጽምተ ፡ ነገሥተ ፡ ይሁዳ ፡ ወአዕጽምጸ ፡ መላእክቲሆሙ ፡ ወአዕጽምተ ፡ ነቢያጽ ፡ አዕጽተ ፡ ካህናት ፡ ወአዕጽምቲሆሙ ፡ ለእለ ፡ ይነብሩ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ኢየሩሳሌም ፡ እምነ ፡ መቃብሪሆሙ ።
“At that time,” says Yahweh, “they will bring the bones of the kings of Judah, the bones of his princes, the bones of the priests, the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves.
8:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ וּשְׁטָחוּם֩ לַשֶּׁ֨מֶשׁ וְלַיָּרֵ֜חַ וּלְכֹ֣ל ׀ צְבָ֣א הַשָּׁמַ֗יִם אֲשֶׁ֨ר אֲהֵב֜וּם וַאֲשֶׁ֤ר עֲבָדוּם֙ וַֽאֲשֶׁר֙ הָלְכ֣וּ אַחֲרֵיהֶ֔ם וַאֲשֶׁ֣ר דְּרָשׁ֔וּם וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר הִֽשְׁתַּחֲו֖וּ לָהֶ֑ם לֹ֤א יֵאָֽסְפוּ֙ וְלֹ֣א יִקָּבֵ֔רוּ לְדֹ֛מֶן עַל ־פְּנֵ֥י הָאֲדָמָ֖ה יִהְיֽוּ ׃
καὶ ψύξουσιν αὐτὰ πρὸς τὸν ἥλιον καὶ τὴν σελήνην καὶ πρὸς πάντας τοὺς ἀστέρας καὶ πρὸς πᾶσαν τὴν στρατιὰν τοῦ οὐρανοῦ ἃ ἠγάπησαν καὶ οἷς ἐδούλευσαν καὶ ὧν ἐπορεύθησαν ὀπίσω αὐτῶν καὶ ὧν ἀντείχοντο καὶ οἷς προσεκύνησαν αὐτοῖς οὐ κοπήσονται καὶ οὐ ταφήσονται καὶ ἔσονται εἰς παράδειγμα ἐπὶ προσώπου τῆς γῆς
et expandent ea ad solem , et lunam , et omnem militiam caeli , quae dilexerunt , et quibus servierunt , et post quae ambulaverunt , et quae quaesierunt , et adoraverunt . Non colligentur , et non sepelientur : in sterquilinium super faciem terrae erunt .
ወይሠጥዎ ፡ ለፀሓይ ፡ ወለወርኅ ፡ ወለኲሉ ፡ ከዋክብት ፡ ወለኩሉ ፡ ሠርጓተ ፡ ሰማይ ፡ ዘአፍቀሩ ፡ ወዘሎሙ ፡ ተቀንዩ ፡ ወዘተለዉ ፡ ደወኅሬሆሙ ፡ ወዘፈቀዱ ፡ ኢይበክይዎሙ ፡ ወኢይቀብርዎሙ ፡ ሕብልያ ፡ ይከውኑ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ገጸ ፡ ምድር ።
They will spread them before the sun, the moon, and all the army of the sky, which they have loved, which they have served, after which they have walked, which they have sought, and which they have worshiped. They will not be gathered or be buried. They will be like dung on the surface of the earth.
8:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְנִבְחַ֥ר מָ֙וֶת֙ מֵחַיִּ֔ים לְכֹ֗ל הַשְּׁאֵרִית֙ הַנִּשְׁאָרִ֔ים מִן ־הַמִּשְׁפָּחָ֥ה הָרָעָ֖ה הַזֹּ֑את בְּכׇל ־הַמְּקֹמ֤וֹת הַנִּשְׁאָרִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הִדַּחְתִּ֣ים שָׁ֔ם נְאֻ֖ם יְהֹוָ֥ה צְבָאֽוֹת ׃ {ס}
ὅτι εἵλοντο τὸν θάνατον ἢ τὴν ζωήν καὶ πᾶσιν τοῖς καταλοίποις τοῖς καταλειφθεῖσιν ἀπὸ τῆς γενεᾶς ἐκείνης ἐν παντὶ τόπῳ οὗ ἐὰν ἐξώσω αὐτοὺς ἐκεῖ
Et eligent magis mortem quam vitam , omnes qui residui fuerint de cognatione hac pessima , in universis locis quae derelicta sunt , ad quae ejeci eos , dicit Dominus exercituum .
እስመ ፡ አብደሩ ፡ ሞተ ፡ እምነ ፡ ሕይወት ፡ ወከሎሙ ፡ እለ ፡ ትርፉ ፡ ዘአትረፉ ፡ እም ፡ ይእቲ ፡ ትውልድ ፡ እኪት ፡ በኩሉ ፡ በሐውርት ፡ ኀበ ፡ እወስዶሙ ፡ ህየ ፡ ይቤ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ።
Death will be chosen rather than life by all the residue that remain of this evil family, that remain in all the places where I have driven them,” says Yahweh of Armies.
8:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֔ה הֲיִפְּל֖וּ וְלֹ֣א יָק֑וּמוּ אִם ־יָשׁ֖וּב וְלֹ֥א יָשֽׁוּב ׃
ὅτι τάδε λέγει κύριος μὴ ὁ πίπτων οὐκ ἀνίσταται ἢ ὁ ἀποστρέφων οὐκ ἐπιστρέφει
Et dices ad eos : Haec dicit Dominus : Numquid qui cadit non resurget ? et qui aversus est non revertetur ?
ወበሎሙ ፡ ከመዝ ፡ ይቤ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ዘወድቀአ ፡ ኢይትነሣእኑ ፡ ወዘስሕተ ፡ ኢይትመየጥኑ ፡ ወዘወጽአ ፡ አፍአ ፡ ኢይገብእኑ ።
“Moreover you shall tell them, ‘Yahweh says: “‘Do men fall, and not rise up again? Does one turn away, and not return?
8:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ מַדּ֨וּעַ שׁוֹבְבָ֜ה הָעָ֥ם הַזֶּ֛ה יְרוּשָׁלַ֖͏ִם מְשֻׁבָ֣ה נִצַּ֑חַת הֶחֱזִ֙יקוּ֙ בַּתַּרְמִ֔ת מֵאֲנ֖וּ לָשֽׁוּב ׃
διὰ τί ἀπέστρεψεν ὁ λαός μου οὗτος ἀποστροφὴν ἀναιδῆ καὶ κατεκρατήθησαν ἐν τῇ προαιρέσει αὐτῶν καὶ οὐκ ἠθέλησαν τοῦ ἐπιστρέψαι
Quare ergo aversus est populus iste in Jerusalem aversione contentiosa ? Apprehenderunt mendacium , et noluerunt reverti .
በእንተ ፡ ምንት ፡ ዐለዉ ፡ ሕዝብየ ፡ በኢየሩሳሌም ፡ ማዕሌተ ፡ እኩየ ፡ ወአጽንዑ ፡ ምክሮሙ ፡ ወአቤ ፡ ኀዲገ ።
Why then have the people of Jerusalem fallen back by a perpetual backsliding? They cling to deceit. They refuse to return.
8:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ הִקְשַׁ֤בְתִּי וָֽאֶשְׁמָע֙ לוֹא ־כֵ֣ן יְדַבֵּ֔רוּ אֵ֣ין אִ֗ישׁ נִחָם֙ עַל ־רָ֣עָת֔וֹ לֵאמֹ֖ר מֶ֣ה עָשִׂ֑יתִי כֻּלֹּ֗ה שָׁ֚ב (במרצותם ) [בִּמְר֣וּצָתָ֔ם ] כְּס֥וּס שׁוֹטֵ֖ף בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה ׃
ἐνωτίσασθε δὴ καὶ ἀκούσατε οὐχ οὕτως λαλήσουσιν οὐκ ἔστιν ἄνθρωπος μετανοῶν ἀπὸ τῆς κακίας αὐτοῦ λέγων τί ἐποίησα διέλιπεν ὁ τρέχων ἀπὸ τοῦ δρόμου αὐτοῦ ὡς ἵππος κάθιδρος ἐν χρεμετισμῷ αὐτοῦ
Attendi , et auscultavi : nemo quod bonum est loquitur ; nullus est qui agat poenitentiam super peccato suo , dicens : Quid feci ? Omnes conversi sunt ad cursum suum , quasi equus impetu vadens ad praelium .
አጽማእኩ ፡ ወሰማዕኩ ፡ ይእዜኒ ፡ አኮ ፡ ከመዝ ፡ ይቤሉ ፡ እስመ ፡ አልቦ ፡ ሰብእ ፡ ዘይኔስሕ ፡ እምእከዩ ፡ ወይብል ፡ ምንተ ፡ ገበርኩ ፡ ዘይሜርድሂ ፡ ደክመ ፡ እንዘ ፡ ይረውጽ ፡ ከመ ፡ ፈረስ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ጸብዕ ።
I listened and heard, but they didn’t say what is right. No one repents of his wickedness, saying, “What have I done?” Everyone turns to his course, as a horse that rushes headlong in the battle.
8:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ גַּם ־חֲסִידָ֣ה בַשָּׁמַ֗יִם יָֽדְעָה֙ מוֹעֲדֶ֔יהָ וְתֹ֤ר (וסוס ) [וְסִיס֙ ] וְעָג֔וּר שָׁמְר֖וּ אֶת ־עֵ֣ת בֹּאָ֑נָה וְעַמִּ֕י לֹ֣א יָדְע֔וּ אֵ֖ת מִשְׁפַּ֥ט יְהֹוָֽה ׃
καὶ ἡ ασιδα ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ ἔγνω τὸν καιρὸν αὐτῆς τρυγὼν καὶ χελιδών ἀγροῦ στρουθία ἐφύλαξαν καιροὺς εἰσόδων αὐτῶν ὁ δὲ λαός μου οὐκ ἔγνω τὰ κρίματα κυρίου
Milvus in caelo cognovit tempus suum : turtur , et hirundo , et ciconia custodierunt tempus adventus sui : populus autem meus non cognovit judicium Domini .
ወሄሮድያኖስ ፡ በሰማይ ፡ የአምር ፡ ዕድሜሁ ፡ ወሕዝብየሰ ፡ ኢየአምሩ ፡ ኩነኔ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ።
Yes, the stork in the sky knows her appointed times. The turtledove, the swallow, and the crane observe the time of their coming; but my people don’t know Yahweh’s law.
8:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ אֵיכָ֤ה תֹֽאמְרוּ֙ חֲכָמִ֣ים אֲנַ֔חְנוּ וְתוֹרַ֥ת יְהֹוָ֖ה אִתָּ֑נוּ אָכֵן֙ הִנֵּ֣ה לַשֶּׁ֣קֶר עָשָׂ֔ה עֵ֖ט שֶׁ֥קֶר סֹפְרִֽים ׃
πῶς ἐρεῖτε ὅτι σοφοί ἐσμεν ἡμεῖς καὶ νόμος κυρίου ἐστὶν μεθ’ ἡμῶν εἰς μάτην ἐγενήθη σχοῖνος ψευδὴς γραμματεῦσιν
Quomodo dicitis : Sapientes nos sumus , et lex Domini nobiscum est ? vere mendacium operatus est stylus mendax scribarum !
ወእፎ ፡ እንከ ፡ ትብሉ ፡ ተቢባን ፡ ንሕነ ፡ ወሐወገ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ምስሌነ ፡ ከንቶ ፡ ኮኑ ፡ መጻሕፍቲክሙ ፡ ወሐሰት ።
“‘How do you say, “We are wise, and Yahweh’s law is with us”? But, behold, the false pen of the scribes has made that a lie.
8:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ הֹבִ֣שׁוּ חֲכָמִ֔ים חַ֖תּוּ וַיִּלָּכֵ֑דוּ הִנֵּ֤ה בִדְבַר ־יְהֹוָה֙ מָאָ֔סוּ וְחׇכְמַ֥ת מֶ֖ה לָהֶֽם ׃
ᾐσχύνθησαν σοφοὶ καὶ ἐπτοήθησαν καὶ ἑάλωσαν ὅτι τὸν λόγον κυρίου ἀπεδοκίμασαν σοφία τίς ἐστιν ἐν αὐτοῖς
Confusi sunt sapientes ; perterriti et capti sunt : verbum enim Domini projecerunt , et sapientia nulla est in eis .
ወተኀፍሩ ፡ ጠቢባን ፡ ተሰብሩ ፡ ወደንገጹ ፡ እስመ ፡ መነኑ ፡ ቃለ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ምንት ፡ ውእቱ ።
The wise men are disappointed. They are dismayed and trapped. Behold, they have rejected Yahweh’s word. What kind of wisdom is in them?
8:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ לָכֵן֩ אֶתֵּ֨ן אֶת ־נְשֵׁיהֶ֜ם לַאֲחֵרִ֗ים שְׂדֽוֹתֵיהֶם֙ לְי֣וֹרְשִׁ֔ים כִּ֤י מִקָּטֹן֙ וְעַד ־גָּד֔וֹל כֻּלֹּ֖ה בֹּצֵ֣עַ בָּ֑צַע מִנָּבִיא֙ וְעַד ־כֹּהֵ֔ן כֻּלֹּ֖ה עֹ֥שֶׂה שָּֽׁקֶר ׃
διὰ τοῦτο δώσω τὰς γυναῖκας αὐτῶν ἑτέροις καὶ τοὺς ἀγροὺς αὐτῶν τοῖς κληρονόμοις
Propterea dabo mulieres eorum exteris , agros eorum haeredibus , quia a minimo usque ad maximum omnes avaritiam sequuntur : a propheta usque ad sacerdotem cuncti faciunt mendacium .
በእንተ ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ እሁብ ፡ እንስቲያሆሙ ፡ ለካልዓን ፡ ወገራውሂሆሙ ፡ ለመዋርሥት ፡ እስመ ፡ ንዑስ ፡ ወዐቢይ ፡ ኩሉ ፡ ይትዔገል ፡ እምነቢይ ፡ እስከ ፡ ካህን ፡ ይትጌበሩ ፡ ሐሰተ ።
Therefore I will give their wives to others and their fields to those who will possess them. For everyone from the least even to the greatest is given to covetousness; from the prophet even to the priest everyone deals falsely.
8:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיְרַפּ֞וּ אֶת ־שֶׁ֤בֶר בַּת ־עַמִּי֙ עַל ־נְקַלָּ֔ה לֵאמֹ֖ר שָׁל֣וֹם ׀שָׁל֑וֹם וְאֵ֖ין שָׁלֽוֹם ׃
— Et sanabant contritionem filiae populi mei ad ignominiam , dicentes : Pax , pax ! cum non esset pax .
ወይትፌወሱ ፡ ቅጥቃጤሃ ፡ ለወለተ ፡ ሕዝብየ ፡ ለአስትቶ ፡ ወይብሉ ፡ ሰላም ፡ ሰላም ።
They have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, “Peace, peace,” when there is no peace.
8:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ הֹבִ֕שׁוּ כִּ֥י תוֹעֵבָ֖ה עָשׂ֑וּ גַּם ־בּ֣וֹשׁ לֹֽא ־יֵבֹ֗שׁוּ וְהִכָּלֵם֙ לֹ֣א יָדָ֔עוּ לָכֵ֞ן יִפְּל֣וּ בַנֹּפְלִ֗ים בְּעֵ֧ת פְּקֻדָּתָ֛ם יִכָּשְׁל֖וּ אָמַ֥ר יְהֹוָֽה ׃ {פ}
— Confusi sunt , quia abominationem fecerunt : quinimmo confusione non sunt confusi , et erubescere nescierunt . Idcirco cadent inter corruentes : in tempore visitationis suae corruent , dicit Dominus .
ወተሀፍሩ ፡ እስመ ፡ ሰቈራር ፡ ገብሩ ፡ ወኀፍረትሰ ፡ ኢኀፍሩ ፡ እስመ ፡ ኢየአምሩ ፡ ኀፍረተ ፡ በእንተ ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ ይወድቁ ፡ በድቀቶሙ ፡ ሶ ፡ ይሔውጽዎሙ ፡ ይወድዩ ፡ ይቤ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ።
Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No, they were not at all ashamed. They couldn’t blush. Therefore they will fall among those who fall. In the time of their visitation they will be cast down, says Yahweh.
8:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ אָסֹ֥ף אֲסִיפֵ֖ם נְאֻם ־יְהֹוָ֑ה אֵין֩ עֲנָבִ֨ים בַּגֶּ֜פֶן וְאֵ֧ין תְּאֵנִ֣ים בַּתְּאֵנָ֗ה וְהֶעָלֶה֙ נָבֵ֔ל וָאֶתֵּ֥ן לָהֶ֖ם יַעַבְרֽוּם ׃
καὶ συνάξουσιν τὰ γενήματα αὐτῶν λέγει κύριος οὐκ ἔστιν σταφυλὴ ἐν ταῖς ἀμπέλοις καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν σῦκα ἐν ταῖς συκαῖς καὶ τὰ φύλλα κατερρύηκεν
Congregans congregabo eos , ait Dominus . Non est uva in vitibus , et non sunt ficus in ficulnea : folium defluxit , et dedi eis quae praetergressa sunt .
አስተጋብኡ ፡ እለ ፡ ያስተጋብኡ ፡ በማዕረር ፡ ይቤ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ አልቦ ፡ አስካል ፡ ውስተ ፡ ወይን ፡ ወአልቦ ፡ በለስ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ሰግላ ፡ ወተነግፈ ፡ ቈጽሉሂ ፡ አልቦ ፡ አስካል ፡ በውስተ ፡ ወይን ፡ ወወሀብክዎሙ ፡ ወኀለፎሙ ።
“‘I will utterly consume them, says Yahweh. No grapes will be on the vine, no figs on the fig tree, and the leaf will fade. The things that I have given them will pass away from them.’”
8:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ עַל ־מָה֙ אֲנַ֣חְנוּ יֹֽשְׁבִ֔ים הֵאָסְפ֗וּ וְנָב֛וֹא אֶל ־עָרֵ֥י הַמִּבְצָ֖ר וְנִדְּמָה ־שָּׁ֑ם כִּי֩ יְהֹוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֵ֤ינוּ הֲדִמָּ֙נוּ֙ וַיַּשְׁקֵ֣נוּ מֵי ־רֹ֔אשׁ כִּ֥י חָטָ֖אנוּ לַיהֹוָֽה ׃
ἐπὶ τί ἡμεῖς καθήμεθα συνάχθητε καὶ εἰσέλθωμεν εἰς τὰς πόλεις τὰς ὀχυρὰς καὶ ἀπορριφῶμεν ὅτι ὁ θεὸς ἀπέρριψεν ἡμᾶς καὶ ἐπότισεν ἡμᾶς ὕδωρ χολῆς ὅτι ἡμάρτομεν ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ
Quare sedemus ? convenite , et ingrediamur civitatem munitam , et sileamus ibi : quia Dominus Deus noster silere nos fecit , et potum dedit nobis aquam fellis : peccavimus enim Domino .
ለምንት ፡ እንከ ፡ ንነብር ፡ ንሕነ ፡ ተጋብኡ ፡ ወንባእ ፡ ውስተ ፡ አህጉር ፡ ጽኑዓት ፡ ወንወረው ፡ ህየ ፡ እስመ ፡ እግዚአብሄር ፡ አምላክነ ፡ ገደፈነ ፡ ወአስተየነ ፡ ማየ ፡ ሕምዝ ፡ እስመ ፡ አበስነ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ።
“Why do we sit still? Assemble yourselves! Let’s enter into the fortified cities, and let’s be silent there; for Yahweh our God has put us to silence, and given us poisoned water to drink, because we have sinned against Yahweh.
8:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ קַוֵּ֥ה לְשָׁל֖וֹם וְאֵ֣ין ט֑וֹב לְעֵ֥ת מַרְפֵּ֖ה וְהִנֵּ֥ה בְעָתָֽה ׃
συνήχθημεν εἰς εἰρήνην καὶ οὐκ ἦν ἀγαθά εἰς καιρὸν ἰάσεως καὶ ἰδοὺ σπουδή
Exspectavimus pacem , et non erat bonum : tempus medelae , et ecce formido .
ተሰፈውነ ፡ ሰላመ ፡ ወኀጣእነ ፡ ሠናይ ፡ ለጊዜ ፡ ሣህል ።
We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of healing, and behold, dismay!
8:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ מִדָּ֤ן נִשְׁמַע֙ נַחְרַ֣ת סוּסָ֔יו מִקּוֹל֙ מִצְהֲל֣וֹת אַבִּירָ֔יו רָעֲשָׁ֖ה כׇּל ־הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיָּב֗וֹאוּ וַיֹּֽאכְלוּ֙ אֶ֣רֶץ וּמְלוֹאָ֔הּ עִ֖יר וְיֹ֥שְׁבֵי בָֽהּ ׃ {פ}
ἐκ Δαν ἀκουσόμεθα φωνὴν ὀξύτητος ἵππων αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ φωνῆς χρεμετισμοῦ ἱππασίας ἵππων αὐτοῦ ἐσείσθη πᾶσα ἡ γῆ καὶ ἥξει καὶ καταφάγεται τὴν γῆν καὶ τὸ πλήρωμα αὐτῆς πόλιν καὶ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας ἐν αὐτῇ
A Dan auditus est fremitus equorum ejus ; a voce hinnituum pugnatorum ejus commota est omnis terra : et venerunt , et devoraverunt terram et plenitudinem ejus ; urbem et habitatores ejus .
ናሁ ፡ ይመጽእ ፡ እምነ ፡ ዳን ፡ ናመጽእ ፡ ድምፀ ፡ ሩጸተ ፡ አፍራሲሆሙ ፡ እምቃለ ፡ ሠራዊቱ ፡ አድለቅለቀት ፡ ምድር ፡ በምልዓ ፡ ወይመጽኡ ፡ ወይበልዋ ፡ ለኩሉ ፡ ምድር ፡ ወለሀገር ፡ ወለእለ ፡ ይነብሩ ፡ ውስቴታ ።
The snorting of his horses is heard from Dan. The whole land trembles at the sound of the neighing of his strong ones; for they have come, and have devoured the land and all that is in it, the city and those who dwell therein.”
8:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ כִּי֩ הִנְנִ֨י מְשַׁלֵּ֜חַ בָּכֶ֗ם נְחָשִׁים֙ צִפְעֹנִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֵין ־לָהֶ֖ם לָ֑חַשׁ וְנִשְּׁכ֥וּ אֶתְכֶ֖ם נְאֻם ־יְהֹוָֽה ׃ {ס}
διότι ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐξαποστέλλω εἰς ὑμᾶς ὄφεις θανατοῦντας οἷς οὐκ ἔστιν ἐπᾷσαι καὶ δήξονται ὑμᾶς
Quia ecce ego mittam vobis serpentes regulos , quibus non est incantatio : et mordebunt vos , ait Dominus .
እስመ ፡ አነ ፡ እፌኑ ፡ ለክሙ ፡ አራዊተ ፡ ምድር ፡ ዘይቀትል ፡ ዘአልቦ ፡ ዘይረቅዮ ፡ ወይነስኩክሙ ፡ ይቤ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ።
“For, behold, I will send serpents, adders among you, which will not be charmed; and they will bite you,” says Yahweh.
8:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ מַבְלִ֥יגִיתִ֖י עֲלֵ֣י יָג֑וֹן עָלַ֖י לִבִּ֥י דַוָּֽי ׃
ἀνίατα μετ’ ὀδύνης καρδίας ὑμῶν ἀπορουμένης
Dolor meus super dolorem , in me cor meum moerens .
እንዘ ፡ ተሐምሙ ፡ ልበክሙ ።
Oh that I could comfort myself against sorrow! My heart is faint within me.
8:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ הִנֵּה ־ק֞וֹל שַֽׁוְעַ֣ת בַּת ־עַמִּ֗י מֵאֶ֙רֶץ֙ מַרְחַקִּ֔ים הַֽיהֹוָה֙ אֵ֣ין בְּצִיּ֔וֹן אִם ־מַלְכָּ֖הּ אֵ֣ין בָּ֑הּ מַדּ֗וּעַ הִכְעִס֛וּנִי בִּפְסִלֵיהֶ֖ם בְּהַבְלֵ֥י נֵכָֽר ׃
ἰδοὺ φωνὴ κραυγῆς θυγατρὸς λαοῦ μου ἀπὸ γῆς μακρόθεν μὴ κύριος οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν Σιων ἢ βασιλεὺς οὐκ ἔστιν ἐκεῖ διὰ τί παρώργισάν με ἐν τοῖς γλυπτοῖς αὐτῶν καὶ ἐν ματαίοις ἀλλοτρίοις
Ecce vox clamoris filiae populi mei de terra longinqua : Numquid Dominus non est in Sion ? aut rex ejus non est in ea ? Quare ergo me ad iracundiam concitaverunt in sculptilibus suis , et in vanitatibus alienis ?
ናሁ ፡ ቃለ ፡ አውያቲሃ ፡ ለወለተ ፡ ሕዝብየ ፡ እርኁቅ ፡ ብሔር ፡ ወአኀዘኒ ፡ ነኰላል ፡ ወሐምም ፡ ከመ ፡ እንተ ፡ ትውልድ ።
Behold, the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people from a land that is very far off: “Isn’t Yahweh in Zion? Isn’t her King in her?” “Why have they provoked me to anger with their engraved images, and with foreign idols?”
8:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ עָבַ֥ר קָצִ֖יר כָּ֣לָה קָ֑יִץ וַאֲנַ֖חְנוּ ל֥וֹא נוֹשָֽׁעְנוּ ׃
διῆλθεν θέρος παρῆλθεν ἄμητος καὶ ἡμεῖς οὐ διεσώθημεν
Transiit messis , finita est aestas , et nos salvati non sumus .
ሀሀሀሀ ።
“The harvest is past. The summer has ended, and we are not saved.”
8:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ עַל ־שֶׁ֥בֶר בַּת ־עַמִּ֖י הׇשְׁבָּ֑רְתִּי קָדַ֕רְתִּי שַׁמָּ֖ה הֶחֱזִקָֽתְנִי ׃
ἐπὶ συντρίμματι θυγατρὸς λαοῦ μου ἐσκοτώθην ἀπορίᾳ κατίσχυσάν με ὠδῖνες ὡς τικτούσης
Super contritione filiae populi mei contritus sum , et contristatus : stupor obtinuit me .
ሀሀሀሀሀ ።
For the hurt of the daughter of my people, I am hurt. I mourn. Dismay has taken hold of me.
8:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ הַצֳּרִי֙ אֵ֣ין בְּגִלְעָ֔ד אִם ־רֹפֵ֖א אֵ֣ין שָׁ֑ם כִּ֗י מַדּ֙וּעַ֙ לֹ֣א עָֽלְתָ֔ה אֲרֻכַ֖ת בַּת ־עַמִּֽי ׃ {ס}
μὴ ῥητίνη οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν Γαλααδ ἢ ἰατρὸς οὐκ ἔστιν ἐκεῖ διὰ τί οὐκ ἀνέβη ἴασις θυγατρὸς λαοῦ μου
Numquid resina non est in Galaad ? aut medicus non est ibi ? quare igitur non est obducta cicatrix filiae populi mei ?
አልቦኑ ፡ ርጢን ፡ ውስተ ፡ ገለዓድ ፡ ወኢሀሎኑ ፡ ህየ ፡ ዓቃቤ ፡ ሥራይ ፡ ለምንት ፡ ኢዐርገ ፡ ከመ ፡ ይፈውሳ ፡ ለወለተ ፡ ሕዝብየ ።
Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then isn’t the health of the daughter of my people recovered?
8:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ מִֽי ־יִתֵּ֤ן רֹאשִׁי֙ מַ֔יִם וְעֵינִ֖י מְק֣וֹר דִּמְעָ֑ה וְאֶבְכֶּה֙ יוֹמָ֣ם וָלַ֔יְלָה אֵ֖ת חַֽלְלֵ֥י בַת ־עַמִּֽי ׃ {ס}
τίς δώσει κεφαλῇ μου ὕδωρ καὶ ὀφθαλμοῖς μου πηγὴν δακρύων καὶ κλαύσομαι τὸν λαόν μου τοῦτον ἡμέρας καὶ νυκτός τοὺς τετραυματισμένους θυγατρὸς λαοῦ μου
— — Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then isn’t the health of the daughter of my people recovered?
