22:1
וַ֭יַּעַן אֱלִיפַ֥ז הַֽתֵּמָנִ֗י וַיֹּאמַֽר׃
ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Ελιφας ὁ Θαιμανίτης λέγει
Respondens autem Eliphaz Themanites, dixit :
ወአደ፡ ተናገር፡ ኤልፋዝ፡ ቱሜናዊ፡ ተሰጥወ፡ ወይቤ።
Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered,
22:2
הַלְאֵ֥ל יִסְכׇּן־גָּ֑בֶר כִּֽי־יִסְכֹּ֖ן עָלֵ֣ימוֹ מַשְׂכִּֽיל׃
πότερον οὐχὶ ὁ κύριός ἐστιν ὁ διδάσκων σύνεσιν καὶ ἐπιστήμην
Numquid Deo potest comparari homo, etiam cum perfectae fuerit scientiae ?
ቀዳሚሁ፡ አኮኑ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ውእቱ፡ ዘይሜህር፡ ምክረ፡ ወጥበበ።
“Can a man be profitable to God? Surely he who is wise is profitable to himself.
22:3
הַחֵ֣פֶץ לְ֭שַׁדַּי כִּ֣י תִצְדָּ֑ק וְאִם־בֶּ֝֗צַע כִּֽי־תַתֵּ֥ם דְּרָכֶֽיךָ׃
τί γὰρ μέλει τῷ κυρίῳ ἐὰν σὺ ἦσθα τοῖς ἔργοις ἄμεμπτος ἢ ὠφέλεια ὅτι ἁπλώσῃς τὴν ὁδόν σου
Quid prodest Deo, si justus fueris ? aut quid ei confers, si immaculata fuerit via tua ?
ወምንት፡ ያጽሕቆ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር፡ ለአመ፡ አንተ፡ አንጻሕክ፡ ምግባሪከ፡ ወምንተ፡ ይረብኆ፡ ለአመ፡ አንተ፡ አርታዕከ፡ ፍናዊከ።
Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that you are righteous? Or does it benefit him that you make your ways perfect?
22:4
הֲֽ֭מִיִּרְאָ֣תְךָ יֹכִיחֶ֑ךָ יָב֥וֹא עִ֝מְּךָ֗ בַּמִּשְׁפָּֽט׃
ἦ λόγον σου ποιούμενος ἐλέγξει σε καὶ συνεισελεύσεταί σοι εἰς κρίσιν
Numquid timens arguet te, et veniet tecum in judicium,
ይትሓሰበከኑ፡ ወይትዋቀሰከ፡ ወየሐውርኑ፡ ይሳነን፡ ምስሌከ።
Is it for your piety that he reproves you, that he enters with you into judgment?
22:5
הֲלֹ֣א רָעָתְךָ֣ רַבָּ֑ה וְאֵֽין־קֵ֝֗ץ לַעֲוֺנֹתֶֽיךָ׃
πότερον οὐχ ἡ κακία σού ἐστιν πολλή ἀναρίθμητοι δέ σού εἰσιν αἱ ἁμαρτίαι
et non propter malitiam tuam plurimam, et infinitas iniquitates tuas ?
ቀዳሚሁ፡ አኮኑ፡ ብዙኅ፡ ውእቱ፡ እከይከ፡ ወአልቦ፡ ኍልቊ፡ ለኃጣውኢከ።
Isn’t your wickedness great? Neither is there any end to your iniquities.
22:6
כִּֽי־תַחְבֹּ֣ל אַחֶ֣יךָ חִנָּ֑ם וּבִגְדֵ֖י עֲרוּמִּ֣ים תַּפְשִֽׁיט׃
ἠνεχύραζες δὲ τοὺς ἀδελφούς σου διὰ κενῆς ἀμφίασιν δὲ γυμνῶν ἀφείλου
Abstulisti enim pignus fratrum tuorum sine causa, et nudos spoliasti vestibus.
ወአኀዝኮ፡ ለከንቱ፡ ወሰለብከ፡ ልብሶ፡ ለዕሩቅ።
For you have taken pledges from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
22:7
לֹא־מַ֭יִם עָיֵ֣ף תַּשְׁקֶ֑ה וּ֝מֵרָעֵ֗ב תִּֽמְנַֽע־לָֽחֶם׃
οὐδὲ ὕδωρ διψῶντας ἐπότισας ἀλλὰ πεινώντων ἐστέρησας ψωμόν
Aquam lasso non dedisti, et esurienti subtraxisti panem.
ማየ፡ ጥቀ፡ ኢያስተይኮ፡ ለጽሙአ፡ ወሄድከ፡ አፍእሞቶ፡ ለርኁብ፡ ወብእሲ፡ ዘይዘርእ፡ ሎቱ፡ ምድረ፡ ገጸ፡ መዳልው፡ ይነብር፡ ውስቴታ።
You haven’t given water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry.
22:8
וְאִ֣ישׁ זְ֭רוֹעַ ל֣וֹ הָאָ֑רֶץ וּנְשׂ֥וּא פָ֝נִ֗ים יֵ֣שֶׁב בָּֽהּ׃
ἐθαύμασας δέ τινων πρόσωπον ᾤκισας δὲ τοὺς ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς
In fortitudine brachii tui possidebas terram, et potentissimus obtinebas eam.
ወቦ፡ እለሂ፡ እንከርከ፡ ገጾሙ፡ ወጸላእከ፡ ነዳያነ፡ በዓመፃ፡ በዲበ፡ ምድር።
But as for the mighty man, he had the earth. The honorable man, he lived in it.
22:9
אַ֭לְמָנוֹת שִׁלַּ֣חְתָּ רֵיקָ֑ם וּזְרֹע֖וֹת יְתֹמִ֣ים יְדֻכָּֽא׃
χήρας δὲ ἐξαπέστειλας κενάς ὀρφανοὺς δὲ ἐκάκωσας
Viduas dimisisti vacuas, et lacertos pupillorum comminuisti.
ወአውፃእኮን፡ ለዕቤራት፡ ዕራቆን፡ ወአፅዐርኮ፡ ለእጓለ፡ ማውታ።
You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
22:10
עַל־כֵּ֭ן סְבִיבוֹתֶ֣יךָ פַחִ֑ים וִ֝יבַהֶלְךָ֗ פַּ֣חַד פִּתְאֹֽם׃
τοιγαροῦν ἐκύκλωσάν σε παγίδες καὶ ἐσπούδασέν σε πόλεμος ἐξαίσιος
Propterea circumdatus es laqueis, et conturbat te formido subita.
በእንተ፡ ምንትኑ፡ ዓገተከ፡ መሥገርት፡ ወሮደከ፡ ጻባኢት፡ ኃያል።
Therefore snares are around you. Sudden fear troubles you,
22:11
אוֹ־חֹ֥שֶׁךְ לֹֽא־תִרְאֶ֑ה וְֽשִׁפְעַת־מַ֥יִם תְּכַסֶּֽךָּ׃
τὸ φῶς σοι σκότος ἀπέβη κοιμηθέντα δὲ ὕδωρ σε ἐκάλυψεν
Et putabas te tenebras non visurum, et impetu aquarum inundantium non oppressum iri ?
ወብርሃንከሂ፡ ጽልመተ፡ ኮነከ፡ ወደፈነከ፡ ማይ፡ እንዘ፡ ትነውም።
or darkness, so that you can not see, and floods of waters cover you.
22:12
הֲֽלֹא־אֱ֭לוֹהַּ גֹּ֣בַהּ שָׁמָ֑יִם וּרְאֵ֤ה רֹ֖אשׁ כּוֹכָבִ֣ים כִּי־רָֽמּוּ׃
μὴ οὐχὶ ὁ τὰ ὑψηλὰ ναίων ἐφορᾷ τοὺς δὲ ὕβρει φερομένους ἐταπείνωσεν
an non cogitas quod Deus excelsior caelo sit, et super stellarum verticem sublimetur ?
ወኢኮነሁ፡ ብውሐ፡ ልዑል፡ ይግበር፡ ዘፈቀደ፡ ወያኃሥሮሙ፡ ለጸአልያን።
“Isn’t God in the heights of heaven? See the height of the stars, how high they are!
22:13
וְֽ֭אָמַרְתָּ מַה־יָּ֣דַֽע אֵ֑ל הַבְעַ֖ד עֲרָפֶ֣ל יִשְׁפּֽוֹט׃
καὶ εἶπας τί ἔγνω ὁ ἰσχυρός ἦ κατὰ τοῦ γνόφου κρινεῖ
Et dicis : Quid enim novit Deus ? et quasi per caliginem judicat.
ወትቤ፡ ምንተ፡ የአምር፡ ኃያል፡ ወበላዕለ፡ ጽልመትኑ፡ ይኴንን።
You say, ‘What does God know? Can he judge through the thick darkness?
22:14
עָבִ֣ים סֵֽתֶר־ל֭וֹ וְלֹ֣א יִרְאֶ֑ה וְח֥וּג שָׁ֝מַ֗יִם יִתְהַלָּֽךְ׃
νέφη ἀποκρυφὴ αὐτοῦ καὶ οὐχ ὁραθήσεται καὶ γῦρον οὐρανοῦ διαπορεύσεται
Nubes latibulum ejus, nec nostra considerat, et circa cardines caeli perambulat.
ወደመና፡ ይሤውሮ፡ ወኢሬኢ፡ ዓውደ፡ ሰማይኑ፡ የሐውር።
Thick clouds are a covering to him, so that he doesn’t see. He walks on the vault of the sky.’
22:15
הַאֹ֣רַח עוֹלָ֣ם תִּשְׁמ֑וֹר אֲשֶׁ֖ר דָּרְכ֣וּ מְתֵי־אָֽוֶן׃
μὴ τρίβον αἰώνιον φυλάξεις ἣν ἐπάτησαν ἄνδρες ἄδικοι
Numquid semitam saeculorum custodire cupis, quam calcaverunt viri iniqui,
ፍኖቶሂ፡ ዘለዓለም፡ ተዓቅብ፡ እንተ፡ ኬድዋ፡ እደው፡ ጻድቃን፡ እለ፡ ዓርጉ፡ ዘእንበለ፡ ይትዓወቅ፡ ከመ፡ ፈለግ፡ ዘይውኅዥ፡ መሠረታቲሆሙ።
Will you keep the old way, which wicked men have trodden,
22:16
אֲשֶֽׁר־קֻמְּט֥וּ וְלֹא־עֵ֑ת נָ֝הָ֗ר יוּצַ֥ק יְסוֹדָֽם׃
οἳ συνελήμφθησαν ἄωροι ποταμὸς ἐπιρρέων οἱ θεμέλιοι αὐτῶν
qui sublati sunt ante tempus suum, et fluvius subvertit fundamentum eorum ?
ወእለ፡ ይብሉ፡ ምንተ፡ ይሬስየነ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወምንተ፡ ይመጽአ፡ ላዕሌነ፡ ዘኵሎ፡ ይመልክ፡ ወመልአ፡ ሎሙ፡ አብያቲሆሙ፡ በረከተ።
who were snatched away before their time, whose foundation was poured out as a stream,
22:17
הָאֹמְרִ֣ים לָ֭אֵל ס֣וּר מִמֶּ֑נּוּ וּמַה־יִּפְעַ֖ל שַׁדַּ֣י לָֽמוֹ׃
οἱ λέγοντες κύριος τί ποιήσει ἡμῖν ἢ τί ἐπάξεται ἡμῖν ὁ παντοκράτωρ
Qui dicebant Deo : Recede a nobis : et quasi nihil posset facere Omnipotens, aestimabant eum,
ወምክረ፡ ኃጥአንሰ፡ ርኍቅ፡ እምኔሆሙ።
who said to God, ‘Depart from us!’ and, ‘What can the Almighty do for us?’
22:18
וְה֤וּא מִלֵּ֣א בָתֵּיהֶ֣ם ט֑וֹב וַעֲצַ֥ת רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים רָ֣חֲקָה מֶֽנִּי׃
ὃς δὲ ἐνέπλησεν τοὺς οἴκους αὐτῶν ἀγαθῶν βουλὴ δὲ ἀσεβῶν πόρρω ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ
cum ille implesset domos eorum bonis : quorum sententia procul sit a me.
ወርእዮሙ፡ ጻድቃን፡ ሰሐቱ፡ ወተሳለቁ፡ ላዕሌሆሙ፡ ንጹሐን።
Yet he filled their houses with good things, but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
22:19
יִרְא֣וּ צַדִּיקִ֣ים וְיִשְׂמָ֑חוּ וְ֝נָקִ֗י יִלְעַג־לָֽמוֹ׃
ἰδόντες δίκαιοι ἐγέλασαν ἄμεμπτος δὲ ἐμυκτήρισεν
Videbunt justi, et laetabuntur, et innocens subsannabit eos :
ወጠፍአት፡ ንዋዮሙ፡ ወተረፎሙሂ፡ በልዓት፡ እሳት።
The righteous see it, and are glad. The innocent ridicule them,
22:20
אִם־לֹ֣א נִכְחַ֣ד קִימָ֑נוּ וְ֝יִתְרָ֗ם אָ֣כְלָה אֵֽשׁ׃
εἰ μὴ ἠφανίσθη ἡ ὑπόστασις αὐτῶν καὶ τὸ κατάλειμμα αὐτῶν καταφάγεται πῦρ
nonne succisa est erectio eorum ? et reliquias eorum devoravit ignis ?
እስኩ፡ ኩን፡ እኩየ፡ እመትጸንዕ፡ ወአመ፡ ይሤኒ፡ ፍሬከ።
saying, ‘Surely those who rose up against us are cut off. The fire has consumed their remnant.’
22:21
הַסְכֶּן־נָ֣א עִמּ֣וֹ וּשְׁלָ֑ם בָּ֝הֶ֗ם תְּֽבוֹאַתְךָ֥ טוֹבָֽה׃
γενοῦ δὴ σκληρός ἐὰν ὑπομείνῃς εἶτ’ ὁ καρπός σου ἔσται ἐν ἀγαθοῖς
Acquiesce igitur ei, et habeto pacem, et per haec habebis fructus optimos.
ሕትቶ፡ ለነገረ፡ አፉከ፡ ወደይ፡ ቃሎ፡ ውስተ፡ ልብከ።
“Acquaint yourself with him now, and be at peace. By it, good will come to you.
22:22
קַח־נָ֣א מִפִּ֣יו תּוֹרָ֑ה וְשִׂ֥ים אֲ֝מָרָ֗יו בִּלְבָבֶֽךָ׃
ἔκλαβε δὲ ἐκ στόματος αὐτοῦ ἐξηγορίαν καὶ ἀνάλαβε τὰ ῥήματα αὐτοῦ ἐν καρδίᾳ σου
Suscipe ex ore illius legem, et pone sermones ejus in corde tuo.
እመሰ፡ ነሳሕከ፡ ወአሕመምከ፡ ርእሰከ፡ ቅድመ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወአርኃቀ፡ እምልብከ፡ ዓመፃ።
Please receive instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart.
22:23
אִם־תָּשׁ֣וּב עַד־שַׁ֭דַּי תִּבָּנֶ֑ה תַּֽרְחִ֥יק עַ֝וְלָ֗ה מֵאׇהֳלֶֽךָ׃
ἐὰν δὲ ἐπιστραφῇς καὶ ταπεινώσῃς σεαυτὸν ἔναντι κυρίου πόρρω ἐποίησας ἀπὸ διαίτης σου τὸ ἄδικον
Si reversus fueris ad Omnipotentem, aedificaberis, et longe facies iniquitatem a tabernaculo tuo.
ይተክለክ፡ ዲበ፡ ኰኵሕ፡ ወከመ፡ እብነ፡ ፈለግ፡ ይሰፍፍ።
If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up, if you put away unrighteousness far from your tents.
22:24
וְשִׁית־עַל־עָפָ֥ר בָּ֑צֶר וּכְצ֖וּר נְחָלִ֣ים אוֹפִֽיר׃
θήσῃ ἐπὶ χώματι ἐν πέτρᾳ καὶ ὡς πέτρᾳ χειμάρρους Ωφιρ
Dabit pro terra silicem, et pro silice torrentes aureos.
ወይረድእከ፡ እምፀርከ፡ ዘኵሎ፡ ይመልክ፡ ወያገብአ፡ ለከ፡ ንጽሐከ፡ ከመ፡ ብሩር፡ ጽሩይ።
Lay your treasure in the dust, the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks.
22:25
וְהָיָ֣ה שַׁדַּ֣י בְּצָרֶ֑יךָ וְכֶ֖סֶף תּוֹעָפ֣וֹת לָֽךְ׃
ἔσται οὖν σου ὁ παντοκράτωρ βοηθὸς ἀπὸ ἐχθρῶν καθαρὸν δὲ ἀποδώσει σε ὥσπερ ἀργύριον πεπυρωμένον
Eritque Omnipotens contra hostes tuos, et argentum coacervabitur tibi.
ወትረክብ፡ ሞገስ፡ በቅድመ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወትኔጽር፡ ሰማየ፡ ተፈሢሐከ።
The Almighty will be your treasure, and precious silver to you.
22:26
כִּי־אָ֭ז עַל־שַׁדַּ֣י תִּתְעַנָּ֑ג וְתִשָּׂ֖א אֶל־אֱל֣וֹהַּ פָּנֶֽיךָ׃
εἶτα παρρησιασθήσῃ ἔναντι κυρίου ἀναβλέψας εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν ἱλαρῶς
Tunc super Omnipotentem deliciis afflues, et elevabis ad Deum faciem tuam.
ወዘጸለይከ፡ ኀቤሁ፡ ይሰምዐከ፡ ወይሁበከ።
For then you will delight yourself in the Almighty, and will lift up your face to God.
22:27
תַּעְתִּ֣יר אֵ֭לָיו וְיִשְׁמָעֶ֑ךָּ וּנְדָרֶ֥יךָ תְשַׁלֵּֽם׃
εὐξαμένου δέ σου πρὸς αὐτὸν εἰσακούσεταί σου δώσει δέ σοι ἀποδοῦναι τὰς εὐχάς
Rogabis eum, et exaudiet te, et vota tua reddes.
ወየዓሥየከ፡ ፍዳ፡ ጽድቅከ፡ ወያበርህ፡ ውስተ፡ ፍናዊከ።
You will make your prayer to him, and he will hear you. You will pay your vows.
22:28
וְֽתִגְזַר־אֹ֭מֶר וְיָ֣קׇם־לָ֑ךְ וְעַל־דְּ֝רָכֶ֗יךָ נָ֣גַהּ אֽוֹר׃
ἀποκαταστήσει δέ σοι δίαιταν δικαιοσύνης ἐπὶ δὲ ὁδοῖς σου ἔσται φέγγος
Decernes rem, et veniet tibi, et in viis tuis splendebit lumen.
እስመ፡ አሕመመከ፡ ትብል፡ ተዓበየ፡ ለዘያቴሕት፡ ርእሶ።
You will also decree a thing, and it will be established to you. Light will shine on your ways.
22:29
כִּֽי־הִ֭שְׁפִּילוּ וַתֹּ֣אמֶר גֵּוָ֑ה וְשַׁ֖ח עֵינַ֣יִם יוֹשִֽׁעַ׃
ὅτι ἐταπείνωσεν αὐτόν καὶ ἐρεῖς ὑπερηφανεύσατο καὶ κύφοντα ὀφθαλμοῖς σώσει
Qui enim humiliatus fuerit, erit in gloria, et qui inclinaverit oculos, ipse salvabitur.
ወይባልሖ፡ ለንጹሕ፡ ወትድኀን፡ በንጽሐ፡ እደዊከ።
When they cast down, you will say, ‘be lifted up.’ He will save the humble person.
22:30
יְמַלֵּ֥ט אִֽי־נָקִ֑י וְ֝נִמְלַ֗ט בְּבֹ֣ר כַּפֶּֽיךָ׃ {פ}
ῥύσεται ἀθῷον καὶ διασώθητι ἐν καθαραῖς χερσίν σου
Salvabitur innocens : salvabitur autem in munditia manuum suarum.
—
He will even deliver him who is not innocent. Yes, he will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands.”
