16:1

And Judith began to sing this song of thanksgiving in all Israel, and all the people sang with loud voices this song of praise.
16:2
ὅτι θεὸς συντρίβων πολέμους κύριος ὅτι εἰς παρεμβολὰς αὐτοῦ ἐν μέσῳ λαοῦ ἐξείλατό με ἐκ χειρὸς καταδιωκόντων με
Incipite Domino in tympanis ; cantate Domino in cymbalis ; modulamini illi psalmum novum : exaltate, et invocate nomen ejus.
ወትቤ፡ ዮዲት፡ ሰብሕዎ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር፡ አምላክነ፡ በከበሮ፡ ወኀልዩ፡ በጸናጽል፡ ወሰንቅዉ፡ ሎቱ፡ በመዝሙር፡ ወበስብሐት፡ አልዕልዎ፡ ወፀውዑ፡ ስሞ።
Judith said, “Begin a song to my God with timbrels. Sing to my Lord with cymbals. Make melody to him psalm and praise. Exalt him, and call upon his name.
16:3
ἦλθεν Ασσουρ ἐξ ὀρέων ἀπὸ βορρᾶ ἦλθεν ἐν μυριάσι δυνάμεως αὐτοῦ ὧν τὸ πλῆθος αὐτῶν ἐνέφραξεν χειμάρρους καὶ ἡ ἵππος αὐτῶν ἐκάλυψεν βουνούς
Dominus conterens bella, Dominus nomen est illi.
እስመ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ይቀጠቅጥ፡ ፀብዐ፡ ወእግዚአብሔር፡ ስሙ።
For the Lord is the God that crushes battles. For in his armies in the midst of the people, he delivered me out of the hand of those who persecuted me.
16:4
εἶπεν ἐμπρήσειν τὰ ὅριά μου καὶ τοὺς νεανίσκους μου ἀνελεῖν ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ καὶ τὰ θηλάζοντά μου θήσειν εἰς ἔδαφος καὶ τὰ νήπιά μου δώσειν εἰς προνομὴν καὶ τὰς παρθένους μου σκυλεῦσαι
Qui posuit castra sua in medio populi sui, ut eriperet nos de manu omnium inimicorum nostrorum.
ወትዕይንቱ፡ ማዕከለ፡ ሕዝብ፡ ወአድኃነነ፡ እምእለ፡ ዴገኑነ።
Asshur came out of the mountains from the north. He came with ten thousands of his army. Its multitude stopped the torrents. Their horsemen covered the hills.
16:5
κύριος παντοκράτωρ ἠθέτησεν αὐτοὺς ἐν χειρὶ θηλείας
Venit Assur ex montibus ab aquilone in multitudine fortitudinis suæ : cujus multitudo obturavit torrentes, et equi eorum cooperuerunt valles.
ወመጽኡ፡ አሶር፡ እምአድባር፡ ዘመንገለ፡ መስዕ፡ ወወጽኡ፡ በአዕላፍ፡ ኃይሎሙ፡ ወአፀዉ፡ አፍላገ፡ በበዝኆሙ፡ ወከደኑ፡ አውግረ፡ በእግረ፡ አፍራሲሆሙ።
He said that he would burn up my borders, kill my young men with the sword, throw my nursing children to the ground, give my infants up as prey, and make my virgins a plunder.
16:6
οὐ γὰρ ὑπέπεσεν ὁ δυνατὸς αὐτῶν ὑπὸ νεανίσκων οὐδὲ υἱοὶ τιτάνων ἐπάταξαν αὐτόν οὐδὲ ὑψηλοὶ γίγαντες ἐπέθεντο αὐτῷ ἀλλὰ Ιουδιθ θυγάτηρ Μεραρι ἐν κάλλει προσώπου αὐτῆς παρέλυσεν αὐτόν
Dixit se incensurum fines meos, et juvenes meos occisurum gladio ; infantes meos dare in prædam, et virgines in captivitatem.
ወይቤሉ፡ ያውዕዩ፡ ደወለነ፡ በእሳት፡ ወይቀትሉ፡ በኵናት፡ ወራዙቲነ፡ ወይፄውዉ፡ ደቂቀነ፡ ወይማህርኩ፡ ደናግሊነ።
“The Almighty Lord brought them to nothing by the hand of a woman.
16:7
ἐξεδύσατο γὰρ στολὴν χηρεύσεως αὐτῆς εἰς ὕψος τῶν πονούντων ἐν Ισραηλ ἠλείψατο τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτῆς ἐν μυρισμῷ
Dominus autem omnipotens nocuit eum, et tradidit eum in manus feminæ, et confodit eum.
ወእግዚአብሔር፡ ዘኵሎ፡ ይመልክ፡ ቀተሎሙ፡ በእደ፡ ብእሲት።
For their mighty one did not fall by young men, neither did sons of the Titans strike him. Tall giants didn’t attack him, but Judith the daughter of Merari made him weak with the beauty of her countenance.
16:8
καὶ ἐδήσατο τὰς τρίχας αὐτῆς ἐν μίτρᾳ καὶ ἔλαβεν στολὴν λινῆν εἰς ἀπάτην αὐτοῦ
Non enim cecidit potens eorum a juvenibus, nec filii Titan percusserunt eum, nec excelsi gigantes opposuerunt se illi : sed Judith filia Merari in specie faciei suæ dissolvit eum.
እስመ፡ ኢወድቀ፡ ጽንኦሙ፡ በእደ፡ ወሬዛ፡ ወአኮ፡ ደቂቀ፡ ጤቤኖን፡ ዘቀተልዎሙ፡ ወአኮ፡ እለ፡ ያርብሕ፡ ዐበይት፡ ዘሞዕዎሙ፡ ዘእንበለ፡ ዮዲት፡ ወለተ፡ ሜራሪ፡ በስነ፡ ገጻ፡ አድከመቶ።
“For she put off the apparel of her widowhood for the exaltation of those who were distressed in Israel. She anointed her face with ointment, bound her hair in a tiara, and took a linen garment to deceive him.
16:9
τὸ σανδάλιον αὐτῆς ἥρπασεν ὀφθαλμὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ τὸ κάλλος αὐτῆς ᾐχμαλώτισεν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ διῆλθεν ὁ ἀκινάκης τὸν τράχηλον αὐτοῦ
Exuit enim se vestimento viduitatis, et induit se vestimento lætitiæ in exultatione filiorum Israël.
ወኀደገት፡ አልባሰ፡ መበለታ፡ ላዕሌሆሙ፡ ለእለ፡ የሐምሙ፡ በውስተ፡ እስራኤል።
Her sandal ravished his eye. Her beauty took his soul prisoner. The scimitar passed through his neck.
16:10
ἔφριξαν Πέρσαι τὴν τόλμαν αὐτῆς καὶ Μῆδοι τὸ θράσος αὐτῆς ἐταράχθησαν
Unxit faciem suam unguento, et colligavit cincinnos suos mitra ; accepit stolam novam ad decipiendum illum.
ወተቀብዐት፡ ገጻ፡ ዕፍረተ፡ ወተጸፍረት፡ ርእሳ፡ ወተከፍለት፡ ወለብሰት፡ አልባሰ፡ አግያት፡ ለአስሕቶቱ፡ ወተስእነት፡ አሣዕኒሃ።
“The Persians quaked at her daring. The Medes were daunted at her boldness.
16:11
τότε ἠλάλαξαν οἱ ταπεινοί μου καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν οἱ ἀσθενοῦντές μου καὶ ἐπτοήθησαν ὕψωσαν τὴν φωνὴν αὐτῶν καὶ ἀνετράπησαν
Sandalia ejus rapuerunt oculos ejus ; pulchritudo ejus captivam fecit animam ejus : amputavit pugione cervicem ejus.
ወበስና፡ ተሐይዳ፡ አዕይንቲሁ፡ ወላሕያ፡ ፄወዋ፡ ለነፍሱ፡ ሐለፈ፡ ሰይፍ፡ እንተ፡ ክሳዱ።
“Then my lowly ones shouted aloud. My weak ones were terrified and trembled for fear. They lifted up their voice, and they fled.
16:12
υἱοὶ κορασίων κατεκέντησαν αὐτοὺς καὶ ὡς παῖδας αὐτομολούντων ἐτίτρωσκον αὐτούς ἀπώλοντο ἐκ παρατάξεως κυρίου μου
Horruerunt Persæ constantiam ejus, et Medi audaciam ejus.
ወደንገፁ፡ ፋርስ፡ እምተሀብሎታ፡ ወፈርሑ፡ ሜዶን፡ እምነ፡ ትብዓ።
The sons of ladies pierced them through, and wounded them as fugatives’ children. They perished by the battle of my Lord.
16:13
ὑμνήσω τῷ θεῷ μου ὕμνον καινόν κύριε μέγας εἶ καὶ ἔνδοξος θαυμαστὸς ἐν ἰσχύι ἀνυπέρβλητος
Tunc ululaverunt castra Assyriorum, quando apparuerunt humiles mei, arescentes in siti.
ወውእተ፡ ጊዜ፡ ወውዑ፡ ሕሙማንየ፡ ወፈርሑ፡ ድውያንየ፡ ወደንገፁ፡ ወዐልዓሉ፡ ቃሎሙ።
“I will sing to my God a new song: O Lord, you are great and glorious, marvelous in strength, invincible.
16:14
σοὶ δουλευσάτω πᾶσα ἡ κτίσις σου ὅτι εἶπας καὶ ἐγενήθησαν ἀπέστειλας τὸ πνεῦμά σου καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ὃς ἀντιστήσεται τῇ φωνῇ σου
Filii puellarum compunxerunt eos, et sicut pueros fugientes occiderunt eos : perierunt in prælio a facie Domini Dei mei.
ወዴገንዎሙ፡ ደቂቀ፡ አዋልድየ፡ ወወግዕዎሙ፡ ወወራዙቶሙኒ፡ ተደራበይዎሙ፡ ወጠፍኡ፡ እምፀባዒተ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
Let all your creation serve you; for you spoke, and they were made. You sent out your spirit, and it built them. There is no one who can resist your voice.
16:15
ὄρη γὰρ ἐκ θεμελίων σὺν ὕδασιν σαλευθήσεται πέτραι δ’ ἀπὸ προσώπου σου ὡς κηρὸς τακήσονται ἔτι δὲ τοῖς φοβουμένοις σε σὺ εὐιλατεύσεις αὐτοῖς
Hymnum cantemus Domino ; hymnum novum cantemus Deo nostro.
አነብብ፡ ስብሐተ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር፡ አነብብ፡ ስብሐተ፡ ሐዲሰ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር።
For the mountains will be moved from their foundations with the waters, and the rocks will melt as wax at your presence: But you are yet merciful to those who fear you.
16:16
ὅτι μικρὸν πᾶσα θυσία εἰς ὀσμὴν εὐωδίας καὶ ἐλάχιστον πᾶν στέαρ εἰς ὁλοκαύτωμά σοι ὁ δὲ φοβούμενος τὸν κύριον μέγας διὰ παντός
Adonai Domine, magnus es tu, et præclarus in virtute tua : et quem superare nemo potest.
እግዚአብሔርሰ፡ ዐቢይ፡ ውእቱ፡ ወክቡር፡ ፈድፋደ፡ ወመድምም፡ ኃይሉ።
For all sacrifice is little for a sweet savor, And all the fat is very little for a whole burnt offering to you; But he who fears the Lord is great continually.
16:17
οὐαὶ ἔθνεσιν ἐπανιστανομένοις τῷ γένει μου κύριος παντοκράτωρ ἐκδικήσει αὐτοὺς ἐν ἡμέρᾳ κρίσεως δοῦναι πῦρ καὶ σκώληκας εἰς σάρκας αὐτῶν καὶ κλαύσονται ἐν αἰσθήσει ἕως αἰῶνος
Tibi serviat omnis creatura tua, quia dixisti, et facta sunt ; misisti spiritum tuum, et creata sunt : et non est qui resistat voci tuæ.
ለከ፡ ይገንዩ፡ ኵሉ፡ ተግባርከ፡ እስመ፡ ትቤ፡ ወኮኑ፡ ወፈኖከ፡ መንፈሰከ፡ ወተሐንፁ፡ ወአልቦ፡ ዘኢይትኤዘዝ፡ በቃልከ።
“Woe to the nations who rise up against my race! The Lord Almighty will take vengeance on them in the day of judgement, to put fire and worms in their flesh; and they will weep and feel their pain forever.”
16:18
ὡς δὲ ἤλθοσαν εἰς Ιερουσαλημ προσεκύνησαν τῷ θεῷ καὶ ἡνίκα ἐκαθαρίσθη ὁ λαός ἀνήνεγκαν τὰ ὁλοκαυτώματα αὐτῶν καὶ τὰ ἑκούσια αὐτῶν καὶ τὰ δόματα
Montes a fundamentis movebuntur cum aquis ; petræ, sicut cera, liquescent ante faciem tuam.
እስመ፡ አድባርኒ፡ መሠረቶሙ፡ ይትከወሱ፡ ወይትከወሱ፡ ሰማያትኒ፡ ወኰኵሕኒ፡ ከመ፡ መዓረ፡ ግራ፡ ይትመሰው፡ እምቅድመ፡ ገጽከ፡ ወዓዲ፡ ተሠሃሙ፡ ለእለ፡ ይፈርሁከ።
Now when they came to Jerusalem, they worshipped God. When the people were purified, they offered their whole burnt offerings, their free will offerings, and their gifts.
16:19
καὶ ἀνέθηκεν Ιουδιθ πάντα τὰ σκεύη Ολοφέρνου ὅσα ἔδωκεν ὁ λαὸς αὐτῇ καὶ τὸ κωνώπιον ὃ ἔλαβεν ἑαυτῇ ἐκ τοῦ κοιτῶνος αὐτοῦ εἰς ἀνάθημα τῷ θεῷ ἔδωκεν
Qui autem timent te, magni erunt apud te per omnia.
እስመ፡ ኢየአክል፡ ኵሉ፡ መሥዋዕት፡ ለመዓዛ፡ ሠናይ፡ ወይውህድ፡ ኵሉ፡ ስብሕ፡ እምነ፡ ቊርባንከ፡ ዘሰ፡ ይፈርሆ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር፡ ዓቢይ፡ ውእቱ፡ በኵሉ፡ ጊዜ።
Judith dedicated all Holofernes’ stuff, which the people had given her, and gave the canopy, which she had taken for herself out of his bedchamber, for a gift to the Lord.
16:20
καὶ ἦν ὁ λαὸς εὐφραινόμενος ἐν Ιερουσαλημ κατὰ πρόσωπον τῶν ἁγίων ἐπὶ μῆνας τρεῖς καὶ Ιουδιθ μετ’ αὐτῶν κατέμεινεν
Væ genti insurgenti super genus meum : Dominus enim omnipotens vindicabit in eis ; in die judicii visitabit illos.
አሌ፡ ሎሙ፡ ለአሕዛብ፡ እለ፡ ይቀውሙ፡ ዲበ፡ ዘመድየ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ዘኵሎ፡ ይመልክ፡ ይትቤቀሎሙ፡ በዕለተ፡ ደይን።
And the people continued feasting in Jerusalem before the sanctuary for three months, and Judith remained with them.
16:21
μετὰ δὲ τὰς ἡμέρας ταύτας ἀνέζευξεν ἕκαστος εἰς τὴν κληρονομίαν αὐτοῦ καὶ Ιουδιθ ἀπῆλθεν εἰς Βαιτυλουα καὶ κατέμεινεν ἐπὶ τῆς ὑπάρξεως αὐτῆς καὶ ἐγένετο κατὰ τὸν καιρὸν αὐτῆς ἔνδοξος ἐν πάσῃ τῇ γῇ
Dabit enim ignem et vermes in carnes eorum, ut urantur et sentiant usque in sempiternum.
ወይፌኑ፡ እሳተ፡ ወእፄ፡ ውስተ፡ ሥጋሆሙ፡ ወይበክዩ፡ በሕማም፡ ዘለዓለም።
But after these days, everyone departed to his own inheritance. Judith went away to Bethulia, and remained in her own possession, and was honorable in her time in all the land.
16:22
καὶ πολλοὶ ἐπεθύμησαν αὐτήν καὶ οὐκ ἔγνω ἀνὴρ αὐτὴν πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας τῆς ζωῆς αὐτῆς ἀφ’ ἧς ἡμέρας ἀπέθανεν Μανασσης ὁ ἀνὴρ αὐτῆς καὶ προσετέθη πρὸς τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ
Et factum est post hæc, omnis populus post victoriam venit in Jerusalem adorare Dominum : et mox ut purificati sunt, obtulerunt omnes holocausta, et vota, et repromissiones suas.
ወሶበ፡ በጽሑ፡ ኢየሩሳሌም፡ ሰገዱ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር፡ ወሶበ፡ አንጽሑ፡ ርእሶሙ፡ ሕዝብ፡ አብዑ፡ ቁርባኖሙ፡ ወዘበፈቃዱ፡ ሀብቶሙ።
Many desired her, and no man knew her all the days of her life, from the day that Manasses her husband died and was gathered to his people.
16:23
καὶ ἦν προβαίνουσα μεγάλη σφόδρα καὶ ἐγήρασεν ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τοῦ ἀνδρὸς αὐτῆς ἔτη ἑκατὸν πέντε καὶ ἀφῆκεν τὴν ἅβραν αὐτῆς ἐλευθέραν καὶ ἀπέθανεν εἰς Βαιτυλουα καὶ ἔθαψαν αὐτὴν ἐν τῷ σπηλαίῳ τοῦ ἀνδρὸς αὐτῆς Μανασση
Porro Judith universa vasa bellica Holofernis, quæ dedit illi populus, et conopeum quod ipsa sustulerat de cubili ipsius, obtulit in anathema oblivionis.
ወአንበረት፡ ዮዲት፡ ኵሎ፡ ንዋዮ፡ ለሆሎፎርኒስ፡ ዘወሀብዋ፡ ሕዝብ።
She increased in greatness exceedingly; and she grew old in her husband’s house, to one hundred five years, and let her maid go free. Then she died in Bethulia. They buried her in the cave of her husband Manasses.
16:24
καὶ ἐπένθησεν αὐτὴν οἶκος Ισραηλ ἡμέρας ἑπτά καὶ διεῖλεν τὰ ὑπάρχοντα αὐτῆς πρὸ τοῦ ἀποθανεῖν αὐτὴν πᾶσι τοῖς ἔγγιστα Μανασση τοῦ ἀνδρὸς αὐτῆς καὶ τοῖς ἔγγιστα τοῦ γένους αὐτῆς
Erat autem populus jucundus secundum faciem sanctorum : et per tres menses gaudium hujus victoriæ celebratum est cum Judith.
ተፈሥሑ፡ ሕዝብ፡ በኢየሩሳሌም፡ በቅድመ፡ መቅደስ፡ ሠለስተ፡ አውራኃ፡ ወዮዲትኒ፡ ነበረት፡ ምስሌሆሙ።
The house of Israel mourned for her seven days. She distributed her goods before she died to all those who were nearest of kin to Manasses her husband, and to those who were nearest of her own kindred.
16:25
καὶ οὐκ ἦν ἔτι ὁ ἐκφοβῶν τοὺς υἱοὺς Ισραηλ ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις Ιουδιθ καὶ μετὰ τὸ ἀποθανεῖν αὐτὴν ἡμέρας πολλάς
Post dies autem illos, unusquisque rediit in domum suam : et Judith magna facta est in Bethulia, et præclarior erat universæ terræ Israël.
ወእምድኅረ፡ እማንቱ፡ መዋዕል፡ አተዉ፡ ኵሉ፡ ውስተ፡ ርስቱ፡ ወዮዲትኒ፡ አተወት፡ ቤጤልዋ፡ ወነበረት፡ ውስተ፡ ተግባራ፡ ወኮነት፡ ክብርተ፡ በመዋዕሊሃ፡ በኵሉ፡ ምድር።
There was no one that made the children of Israel afraid any more in the days of Judith, nor a long time after her death.
