16:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἔλεγεν δὲ καὶ πρὸς τοὺς μαθητάς · ἄνθρωπός τις ἦν πλούσιος ὃς εἶχεν οἰκονόμον , καὶ οὗτος διεβλήθη αὐτῷ ὡς διασκορπίζων τὰ ὑπάρχοντα αὐτοῦ .
Dicebat autem et ad discipulos suos : Homo quidam erat dives , qui habebat villicum : et hic diffamatus est apud illum quasi dissipasset bona ipsius .
ወይቤሎሙ እግዚእ ኢየሱስ ለአርዳኢሁ አሐዱ ብእሲ ባዕል ቦቱ መጋቢ ወአስተዋደይዎ ኀቤሁ ከመ ዘይዘሩ ሎቱ ንዋዮ ።
He also said to his disciples, “There was a certain rich man who had a manager. An accusation was made to him that this man was wasting his possessions.
16:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ φωνήσας αὐτὸν εἶπεν αὐτῷ · τί τοῦτο ἀκούω περὶ σοῦ ; ἀπόδος τὸν λόγον τῆς οἰκονομίας σου · οὐ γὰρ δύνῃ ἔτι οἰκονομεῖν .
Et vocavit illum , et ait illi : Quid hoc audio de te ? redde rationem villicationis tuae : jam enim non poteris villicare .
ወጸውዖ እግዚኡ ወይቤሎ ምንትኑዝ ዘእሰምዕ በእንቲኣከ እንከሰ አግብእ ሐሳበ ምግብናከ እስመ ኢትከውነኒ እንከ መጋቤ ሊተ ።
He called him, and said to him, ‘What is this that I hear about you? Give an accounting of your management, for you can no longer be manager.’
16:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἶπεν δὲ ἐν ἑαυτῷ ὁ οἰκονόμος · τί ποιήσω , ὅτι ὁ κύριός μου ἀφαιρεῖται τὴν οἰκονομίαν ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ ; σκάπτειν οὐκ ἰσχύω , ἐπαιτεῖν αἰσχύνομαι .
Ait autem villicus intra se : Quid faciam , quia dominus meus aufert a me villicationem ? Fodere non valeo , mendicare erubesco .
ወኀለየ ውእቱ መጋቢ ወይቤ ምንተ እሬሲ ናሁ ይስዕረኒ እግዚእየ እምግብናየ ሐሪሰሂ ኢይክል ወስኢለሂ አኀፍር ።
“The manager said within himself, ‘What will I do, seeing that my lord is taking away the management position from me? I don’t have strength to dig. I am ashamed to beg.
16:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἔγνων τί ποιήσω , ἵνα ὅταν μετασταθῶ ἐκ τῆς οἰκονομίας δέξωνταί με εἰς τοὺς οἴκους ἑαυτῶν .
Scio quid faciam , ut , cum amotus fuero a villicatione , recipiant me in domos suas .
አአምር እንከሰ ዘእገብር እምከመ ሰዐረኒ እግዚእየ እምግብናየ ከመ ይትወከፉኒ ውስተ አብያቲሆሙ ።
I know what I will do, so that when I am removed from management, they may receive me into their houses.’
16:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος ἕνα ἕκαστον τῶν χρεοφειλετῶν τοῦ κυρίου ἑαυτοῦ ἔλεγεν τῷ πρώτῳ · πόσον ὀφείλεις τῷ κυρίῳ μου ;
Convocatis itaque singulis debitoribus domini sui , dicebat primo : Quantum debes domino meo ?
ወጸውዖሙ ለእለ ይፈድይዎ ዕዳ ለእግዚኡ ወይቤሎ ለቀዳማዊ ሚመጠን ዕዳ ዘትፈድዮ ለእግዚእየ ወይቤሎ ምእተ በመስፈርተ ባዶስ ቅብዐ ።
Calling each one of his lord’s debtors to him, he said to the first, ‘How much do you owe to my lord?’
16:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὁ δὲ εἶπεν · ἑκατὸν βάτους ἐλαίου . ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῷ · δέξαι σου τὰ γράμματα καὶ καθίσας ταχέως γράψον πεντήκοντα .
At ille dixit : Centum cados olei . Dixitque illi : Accipe cautionem tuam : et sede cito , scribe quinquaginta .
ወይቤሎ ናሁኬ መጽሐፍከ ንበር ወጸሐፍ ፍጡነ ኀምሳ ላዕሌከ ።
He said, ‘A hundred batos of oil.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’
16:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἔπειτα ἑτέρῳ εἶπεν · σὺ δὲ πόσον ὀφείλεις ; ὁ δὲ εἶπεν · ἑκατὸν κόρους σίτου . λέγει αὐτῷ · δέξαι σου τὰ γράμματα καὶ γράψον ὀγδοήκοντα .
Deinde alii dixit : Tu vero quantum debes ? Qui ait : Centum coros tritici . Ait illi : Accipe litteras tuas , et scribe octoginta .
ወይቤሎ ለካልኡሂ አንተሰ ሚመጠነ ትፈድዮ ለእግዚእየ ወይቤሎ ምእተ በመስፈርተ ቆሮስ ሥርናየ ወይቤሎ ናሁኬ መጽሐፍከ ንበር ወጸሐፍ ፍጡነ ሰማንያ ላዕሌከ ።
Then he said to another, ‘How much do you owe?’ He said, ‘A hundred cors of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and write eighty.’
16:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐπῄνεσεν ὁ κύριος τὸν οἰκονόμον τῆς ἀδικίας ὅτι φρονίμως ἐποίησεν · ὅτι οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ αἰῶνος τούτου φρονιμώτεροι ὑπὲρ τοὺς υἱοὺς τοῦ φωτὸς εἰς τὴν γενεὰν τὴν ἑαυτῶν εἰσίν .
Et laudavit dominus villicum iniquitatis , quia prudenter fecisset : quia filii hujus saeculi prudentiores filiis lucis in generatione sua sunt .
ወንእዶ እግዚኡ ለመጋቤ ዐመፃ እስመ ከመ ጠቢብ ገብረ እስመ ውሉደ ዝ ዓለም ይጠበቡ እምውሉደ ብርሃን በዓለሞሙ ።
“His lord commended the dishonest manager because he had done wisely, for the children of this world are, in their own generation, wiser than the children of the light.
16:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐγὼ ὑμῖν λέγω , ἑαυτοῖς ποιήσατε φίλους ἐκ τοῦ μαμωνᾶ τῆς ἀδικίας , ἵνα ὅταν ἐκλίπῃ δέξωνται ὑμᾶς εἰς τὰς αἰωνίους σκηνάς .
Et ego vobis dico : facite vobis amicos de mammona iniquitatis : ut , cum defeceritis , recipiant vos in aeterna tabernacula .
ወአነሂ እብለክሙ ግበሩ ለክሙ አዕርክተ እምንዋየ ዓመፃ ከመ አመ የኀልቅ ንዋይክሙ ይትወከፉክሙ እሙንቱሂ ውስተ አብያቲሆሙ ዘለዓለም ።
I tell you, make for yourselves friends by means of unrighteous mammon, so that when you fail, they may receive you into the eternal tents.
16:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὁ πιστὸς ἐν ἐλαχίστῳ καὶ ἐν πολλῷ πιστός ἐστιν , καὶ ὁ ἐν ἐλαχίστῳ ἄδικος καὶ ἐν πολλῷ ἄδικός ἐστιν .
Qui fidelis est in minimo , et in majori fidelis est : et qui in modico iniquus est , et in majori iniquus est .
ወዘሰ በውኁድ ምእመን በብዙኅኒ ምእመን ውእቱ ወዘሰ በኅዳጥ ዐማፂ በብዙኅኒ ዐመፂ ውእቱ ።
He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much. He who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.
16:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἰ οὖν ἐν τῷ ἀδίκῳ μαμωνᾷ πιστοὶ οὐκ ἐγένεσθε , τὸ ἀληθινὸν τίς ὑμῖν πιστεύσει ;
Si ergo in iniquo mammona fideles non fuistis quod verum est , quis credet vobis ?
ወሶበ በንዋየ ዐመፃ ሃይማኖት አልብክሙ በንዋየ ጽድቅ መኑ የአምነክሙ ።
If therefore you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?
16:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ εἰ ἐν τῷ ἀλλοτρίῳ πιστοὶ οὐκ ἐγένεσθε , τὸ ὑμέτερον τίς δώσει ὑμῖν ;
Et si in alieno fideles non fuistis , quod vestrum est , quis dabit vobis ?
ወሶበ በንዋየ ባዕድ ሃይማኖት አልብክሙ ዘዚኣሁ መኑ እንከ ይሁበክሙ ።
If you have not been faithful in that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own?
16:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ οὐδεὶς οἰκέτης δύναται δυσὶ κυρίοις δουλεύειν · ἢ γὰρ τὸν ἕνα μισήσει καὶ τὸν ἕτερον ἀγαπήσει , ἢ ἑνὸς ἀνθέξεται καὶ τοῦ ἑτέρου καταφρονήσει . οὐ δύνασθε θεῷ δουλεύειν καὶ μαμωνᾷ .
Nemo servus potest duobus dominis servire : aut enim unum odiet , et alterum diliget : aut uni adhaerebit , et alterum contemnet . Non potestis Deo servire et mammonae .
አልቦ ገብር ዘይክል ተቀንዮ ለክልኤቱ አጋእዝት ወእመአኮ አሐደ ያፈቅር ወካልኦ ይጸልእ ወእመአኮ ለአሐዱ ይትኤዘዝ ወለካልኡ የአቢ ኢትክሉኬ ለእግዚአብሔር ተቀንዮ እንዘ ንወየ ታፈቅሩ ።
No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will hold to one and despise the other. You aren’t able to serve God and Mammon.”
16:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἤκουον δὲ ταῦτα πάντα οἱ Φαρισαῖοι φιλάργυροι ὑπάρχοντες , καὶ ἐξεμυκτήριζον αὐτόν .
Audiebant autem omnia haec pharisaei , qui erant avari : et deridebant illum .
ወሰሚዖሙ ዘንተ ኵሎሙ ፈሪሳውያን ተቃጸብዎ እስመ መፍቀርያነ ንዋይ እሙንቱ ።
The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they scoffed at him.
16:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς · ὑμεῖς ἐστε οἱ δικαιοῦντες ἑαυτοὺς ἐνώπιον τῶν ἀνθρώπων , ὁ δὲ θεὸς γινώσκει τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν · ὅτι τὸ ἐν ἀνθρώποις ὑψηλὸν βδέλυγμα ἐνώπιον τοῦ θεοῦ .
Et ait illis : Vos estis qui justificatis vos coram hominibus : Deus autem novit corda vestra : quia quod hominibus altum est , abominatio est ante Deum .
ወይቤሎሙ ፤ አንትሙሰ ትጼደቁ ለዐይነ ሰብእ ወእግዚአብሔር የአምረክሙ ልበክሙ እስመ ዘበኀበ ሰብእ ዐቢይ በኀበ እግዚአብሔር ትሑት ወምኑን ውእቱ ።
He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts. For that which is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.
16:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὁ νόμος καὶ οἱ προφῆται μέχρι Ἰωάννου · ἀπὸ τότε ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ εὐαγγελίζεται καὶ πᾶς εἰς αὐτὴν βιάζεται .
Lex et prophetae usque ad Joannem : ex eo regnum Dei evangelizatur , et omnis in illud vim facit .
ኦሪትኒ ወነቢያትኒ እስከ ዮሐንስ እምትካት ሰበኩ በእንተ መንግሥተ እግዚአብሔር ወኵሉ ይትገፋዕ በእንቲኣሃ ።
“The law and the prophets were until John. From that time the Good News of God’s Kingdom is preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it.
16:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ εὐκοπώτερον δέ ἐστιν τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ τὴν γῆν παρελθεῖν ἢ τοῦ νόμου μίαν κεραίαν πεσεῖν .
Facilius est autem caelum et terram praeterire , quam de lege unum apicem cadere .
ወባሕቱ ይቀልል ሰማይ ወምድር ይኅልፍ እምትደቅ አሐቲ ቃል እምኦሪት ወእምነቢያት ።
But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tiny stroke of a pen in the law to fall.
16:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ πᾶς ὁ ἀπολύων τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ καὶ γαμῶν ἑτέραν μοιχεύει , καὶ ὁ ἀπολελυμένην ἀπὸ ἀνδρὸς γαμῶν μοιχεύει .
Omnis qui dimittit uxorem suam et alteram ducit , moechatur : et qui dimissam a viro ducit , moechatur .
ወኵሉ ዘይድኅር ብእሲቶ ወያወስብ ካልእተ ዘመወ ወዘኒ ያወስብ ኅድግተ ዘማዊ ውእቱ ወእንተሂ ደኀራ ምታ ለእመ ቀርበት ካልአ ዘመወት ።
“Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery. He who marries one who is divorced from a husband commits adultery.
16:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἄνθρωπος δέ τις ἦν πλούσιος , καὶ ἐνεδιδύσκετο πορφύραν καὶ βύσσον εὐφραινόμενος καθ’ ἡμέραν λαμπρῶς .
Homo quidam erat dives , qui induebatur purpura et bysso , et epulabatur quotidie splendide .
ወሀሎ አሐዱ ብእሲ ባዕል ወይለብስ ሜላተ ወለየ ወልብሰ ቢሶስ ወቀጠንተ አልባስ ወይትፌሣሕ ወይትፌጋዕ ኵሎ አሚረ ።
“Now there was a certain rich man, and he was clothed in purple and fine linen, living in luxury every day.
16:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ πτωχὸς δέ τις ὀνόματι Λάζαρος ἐβέβλητο πρὸς τὸν πυλῶνα αὐτοῦ εἱλκωμένος
Et erat quidam mendicus , nomine Lazarus , qui jacebat ad januam ejus , ulceribus plenus ,
ወሀሎ አሐዱ ነዳይ ዘስሙ አልዓዛር ግዱፍ ውስተ ዴዴሁ ለባዕል ወይሰክብ እንዘ ይደዊ በሕማመ ቍስል ።
A certain beggar, named Lazarus, was taken to his gate, full of sores,
16:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐπιθυμῶν χορτασθῆναι ἀπὸ τῶν πιπτόντων ἀπὸ τῆς τραπέζης τοῦ πλουσίου · ἀλλὰ καὶ οἱ κύνες ἐρχόμενοι ἐπέλειχον τὰ ἕλκη αὐτοῦ .
cupiens saturari de micis quae cadebant de mensa divitis , et nemo illi dabat : sed et canes veniebant , et lingebant ulcera ejus .
ወይፈቱ ይጽገብ እምፍርፋራት ዘይወድቅ እማእዱ ለባዕል ወከለባትሂ ይመጽኡ ወይልሕሱ ቍሰሊሁ ።
and desiring to be fed with the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table. Yes, even the dogs came and licked his sores.
16:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐγένετο δὲ ἀποθανεῖν τὸν πτωχὸν καὶ ἀπενεχθῆναι αὐτὸν ὑπὸ τῶν ἀγγέλων εἰς τὸν κόλπον Ἀβραάμ · ἀπέθανεν δὲ καὶ ὁ πλούσιος καὶ ἐτάφη .
Factum est autem ut moreretur mendicus , et portaretur ab angelis in sinum Abrahae . Mortuus est autem et dives , et sepultus est in inferno .
ወእምዝ ሞተ ዝኩ ነዳይ ወወሰድዎ መላእክት ውስተ ሕፅነ አብርሃም ወሞተ ባዕልኒ ወተቀብረ ።
The beggar died, and he was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.
16:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐν τῷ ᾅδῃ ἐπάρας τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ , ὑπάρχων ἐν βασάνοις , ὁρᾷ Ἀβραὰμ ἀπὸ μακρόθεν καὶ Λάζαρον ἐν τοῖς κόλποις αὐτοῦ .
Elevans autem oculos suos , cum esset in tormentis , vidit Abraham a longe , et Lazarum in sinu ejus :
ወበሲኦል አንሥአ አዕይንቲሁ እንዘ ሀሎ ውስተ ደይን ወርእዮ ለአብርሃም እምርኁቅ ወለአልዓዛር ውስተ ሕፅኑ ።
In Hades, he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far off, and Lazarus at his bosom.
16:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ αὐτὸς φωνήσας εἶπεν · πάτερ Ἀβραάμ , ἐλέησόν με καὶ πέμψον Λάζαρον ἵνα βάψῃ τὸ ἄκρον τοῦ δακτύλου αὐτοῦ ὕδατος καὶ καταψύξῃ τὴν γλῶσσάν μου , ὅτι ὀδυνῶμαι ἐν τῇ φλογὶ ταύτῃ .
et ipse clamans dixit : Pater Abraham , miserere mei , et mitte Lazarum ut intingat extremum digiti sui in aquam , ut refrigeret linguam meam , quia crucior in hac flamma .
ወጸውዐ ወይቤ አባ አብርሃም ተሣሀለኒ ወፈንዎ ለአልዓዛር ከመ ይጥማዕ ጽንፈ አጽባዕቱ ማየ ወያቍርረኒ ልሳንየ እስመ ሐመምኩ በዛቲ እሳት ።
He cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue! For I am in anguish in this flame.’
16:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἶπεν δὲ Ἀβραάμ · τέκνον , μνήσθητι ὅτι ἀπέλαβες τὰ ἀγαθά σου ἐν τῇ ζωῇ σου , καὶ Λάζαρος ὁμοίως τὰ κακά · νῦν δὲ ὧδε παρακαλεῖται , σὺ δὲ ὀδυνᾶσαι .
Et dixit illi Abraham : Fili , recordare quia recepisti bona in vita tua , et Lazarus similiter mala : nunc autem hic consolatur , tu vero cruciaris :
ወይቤሎ አብርሃም ተዘከር ወልድየ ዘከመ ፈጋዕከ ወተፈሣሕከ በሕይወትከ ወአልዓዛርሰ ከማሁ ክመ በተጽናስ ወይእዜሰ ከማሁ ክመ ውእቱ ይትፌሣሕ በዝየ ወአንተሰ ተሐምም ።
“But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that you, in your lifetime, received your good things, and Lazarus, in the same way, bad things. But here he is now comforted and you are in anguish.
16:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐν πᾶσι τούτοις μεταξὺ ἡμῶν καὶ ὑμῶν χάσμα μέγα ἐστήρικται , ὅπως οἱ θέλοντες διαβῆναι ἔνθεν πρὸς ὑμᾶς μὴ δύνωνται , μηδὲ οἱ ἐκεῖθεν πρὸς ἡμᾶς διαπερῶσιν .
et in his omnibus inter nos et vos chaos magnum firmatum est : ut hi qui volunt hinc transire ad vos , non possint , neque inde huc transmeare .
ወምስለ ዝንቱ ኵሉ ጸድፍ ዐቢይ ይከልአነ ማእከሌነ ወማእከሌክሙ ከመ እለሂ ይፈቅዱ እምለፌ ይኅልፉ ኢይክሀሉ መጺአ ኀቤክሙ ወእለሂ መንገሌክሙ ኢይዕድዉ ኀቤነ ።
Besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, that those who want to pass from here to you are not able, and that no one may cross over from there to us.’
16:27 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἶπεν δέ · ἐρωτῶ οὖν σε , πάτερ , ἵνα πέμψῃς αὐτὸν εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ πατρός μου ·
Et ait : Rogo ergo te , pater , ut mittas eum in domum patris mei :
ወይቤሎ እስእለከ አባ አብርሃም ትፈንዎ ለአልዓዛር ቤተ አቡየ ።
“He said, ‘I ask you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house—
16:28 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἔχω γὰρ πέντε ἀδελφούς , ὅπως διαμαρτύρηται αὐτοῖς , ἵνα μὴ καὶ αὐτοὶ ἔλθωσιν εἰς τὸν τόπον τοῦτον τῆς βασάνου .
habeo enim quinque fratres : ut testetur illis , ne et ipsi veniant in hunc locum tormentorum .
እስመ ሀለዉ ኀምስቱ አኀውየ ይንግሮሙ ወይስምዑ ወኢይምጽኡ እሙንቱሂ ውስተ ዛቲ ብሔረ ሕማም ።
for I have five brothers—that he may testify to them, so they won’t also come into this place of torment.’
16:29 ⧉ ⤴︎ λέγει δὲ αὐτῷ Ἀβραάμ · ἔχουσι Μωϋσέα καὶ τοὺς προφήτας · ἀκουσάτωσαν αὐτῶν .
Et ait illi Abraham : Habent Moysen et prophetas : audiant illos .
ወይቤሎ አብርሃም ቦሙ ሙሴ ወነቢያት ኪያሆሙ ለይስምዑ ።
“But Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets. Let them listen to them.’
16:30 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὁ δὲ εἶπεν · οὐχί , πάτερ Ἀβραάμ , ἀλλ’ ἐάν τις ἀπὸ νεκρῶν πορευθῇ πρὸς αὐτούς , μετανοήσουσιν .
At ille dixit : Non , pater Abraham : sed si quis ex mortuis ierit ad eos , poenitentiam agent .
ወይቤሎ አልቦ አባ አብርሃም አሐዱ እምነ ምዉታን ለእመ ኢሖረ ኀቤሆሙ ወለእመ ኢነገሮሙ ኢየአምኑ ወኢይኔስሑ ።
“He said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’
16:31 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ · εἰ Μωϋσέως καὶ τῶν προφητῶν οὐκ ἀκούουσιν , οὐδὲ ἐάν τις ἐκ νεκρῶν ἀναστῇ πεισθήσονται .
Ait autem illi : Si Moysen et prophetas non audiunt , neque si quis ex mortuis resurrexerit , credent .
ወይቤሎ አብርሃም ለእመሰኬ ሙሴሃ ወነቢያተ ኢይሰምዑ እመሂቦ ዘተንሥአ እምዉታን ኢይሰምዕዎ ወኢየአምንዎ ።
“He said to him, ‘If they don’t listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if one rises from the dead.’”
