5:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἰδὼν δὲ τοὺς ὄχλους ἀνέβη εἰς τὸ ὄρος · καὶ καθίσαντος αὐτοῦ προσῆλθαν αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ·
Videns autem Jesus turbas , ascendit in montem , et cum sedisset , accesserunt ad eum discipuli ejus ,
ወርእዮ ብዙኃነ አሕዛበ ዐርገ ውስተ ደብር ወነበረ ወቀርቡ ኀቤሁ አርዳኢሁ ።
Seeing the multitudes, he went up onto the mountain. When he had sat down, his disciples came to him.
5:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἀνοίξας τὸ στόμα αὐτοῦ ἐδίδασκεν αὐτοὺς λέγων ,
et aperiens os suum docebat eos dicens :
ወከሠተ አፉሁ ወመሀሮሙ እንዘ ይብል ።
He opened his mouth and taught them, saying,
5:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ μακάριοι οἱ πτωχοὶ τῷ πνεύματι , ὅτι αὐτῶν ἐστιν ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν .
Beati pauperes spiritu : quoniam ipsorum est regnum caelorum .
ብፁዓን ነዳያን በመንፈስ እስመ ሎሙ ይእቲ መንግሥተ ሰማያት ።
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
5:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ μακάριοι οἱ πραεῖς , ὅτι αὐτοὶ κληρονομήσουσιν τήν γῆν .
Beati mites : quoniam ipsi possidebunt terram .
ብፁዓን እለ ይላሕዉ ይእዜ እስመ እሙንቱ ይትፌሥሑ ።
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
5:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ μακάριοι οἱ πενθοῦντες , ὅτι αὐτοὶ παρακληθήσονται .
Beati qui lugent : quoniam ipsi consolabuntur .
ብፁዓን የዋሃን እስመ እሙንቱ ይወርስዋ ለምድር ።
Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.
5:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ μακάριοι οἱ πεινῶντες καὶ διψῶντες τὴν δικαιοσύνην , ὅτι αὐτοὶ χορτασθήσονται .
Beati qui esuriunt et sitiunt justitiam : quoniam ipsi saturabuntur .
ብፁዓን እለ ይርኅቡ ወይጸምኡ በእንተ ጽድቅ ፤ እስመ እሙንቱ ይጸግቡ ።
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.
5:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ μακάριοι οἱ ἐλεήμονες , ὅτι αὐτοὶ ἐλεηθήσονται .
Beati misericordes : quoniam ipsi misericordiam consequentur .
ብፁዓን መሓርያን እስመ ሎሙኒ ይምሕርዎሙ ።
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
5:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ μακάριοι οἱ καθαροὶ τῇ καρδίᾳ , ὅτι αὐτοὶ τὸν θεὸν ὄψονται .
Beati mundo corde : quoniam ipsi Deum videbunt .
ብፁዓን ንጹሓነ ልብ እስመ እሙንቱ ይሬእይዎ ለእግዚአብሔር ።
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
5:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ μακάριοι οἱ εἰρηνοποιοί , ὅτι υἱοὶ θεοῦ κληθήσονται .
Beati pacifici : quoniam filii Dei vocabuntur .
ብፁዓን ገባርያነ ሰላም እስመ እሙንቱ ውሉደ እግዚአብሔር ይሰመዩ ።
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.
5:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ μακάριοι οἱ δεδιωγμένοι ἕνεκεν δικαιοσύνης , ὅτι αὐτῶν ἐστιν ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν .
Beati qui persecutionem patiuntur propter justitiam : quoniam ipsorum est regnum caelorum .
ብፁዓን እለ ይሰደዱ በእንተ ጽድቅ እስመ ሎሙ ይእቲ መንግሥተ ሰማያት ።
Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
5:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ μακάριοί ἐστε ὅταν ὀνειδίσωσιν ὑμᾶς καὶ διώξωσιν καὶ εἴπωσιν πᾶν πονηρὸν καθ’ ὑμῶν ψευδόμενοι ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ ·
Beati estis cum maledixerint vobis , et persecuti vos fuerint , et dixerint omne malum adversum vos mentientes , propter me :
ብፁዓን አንትሙ ሶበ ይሰድዱክሙ ወይዘነጕጉክሙ ወይነቡ ኵሎ እኩየ ላዕሌክሙ እንዘ ይሔስዉ በእንቲኣየ ።
“Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
5:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ χαίρετε καὶ ἀγαλλιᾶσθε , ὅτι ὁ μισθὸς ὑμῶν πολὺς ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς · οὕτως γὰρ ἐδίωξαν τοὺς προφήτας τοὺς πρὸ ὑμῶν .
gaudete , et exsultate , quoniam merces vestra copiosa est in caelis . Sic enim persecuti sunt prophetas , qui fuerunt ante vos .
ተፈሥሑ ወተሐሠዩ እስመ ብዙኅ ዕሴትክሙ በሰማያት እስመ ከመዝ ሰደድዎሙ ለነቢያት እለ እምቅድሜክሙ ።
Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
5:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ὑμεῖς ἐστε τὸ ἅλας τῆς γῆς · ἐὰν δὲ τὸ ἅλας μωρανθῇ , ἐν τίνι ἁλισθήσεται ; εἰς οὐδὲν ἰσχύει ἔτι εἰ μὴ βληθὲν ἔξω καταπατεῖσθαι ὑπὸ τῶν ἀνθρώπων .
Vos estis sal terrae . Quod si sal evanuerit , in quo salietur ? ad nihilum valet ultra , nisi ut mittatur foras , et conculcetur ab hominibus .
አንትሙ ውእቱ ጼዉ ለምድር ወእመሰ ጼው ለስሐ በምንትኑ እንከ ይቄስምዎ አልቦኬ እንከ ዘይበቍዕ ዘእንበለ ዘይገድፍዎ አፍኣ ወይከይድዎ ሰብእ በእገሪሆሙ ።
“You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its flavor, with what will it be salted? It is then good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under the feet of men.
5:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ὑμεῖς ἐστε τὸ φῶς τοῦ κόσμου . οὐ δύναται πόλις κρυβῆναι ἐπάνω ὄρους κειμένη ·
Vos estis lux mundi . Non potest civitas abscondi supra montem posita ,
አንትሙ ውእቱ ብርሃኑ ለዓለም ኢትክል ተከብቶ ሀገር እንተ ተሐንጸት መልዕልተ ደብር ።
“You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can’t be hidden.
5:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ οὐδὲ καίουσιν λύχνον καὶ τιθέασιν αὐτὸν ὑπὸ τὸν μόδιον ἀλλ’ ἐπὶ τὴν λυχνίαν , καὶ λάμπει πᾶσιν τοῖς ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ .
neque accendunt lucernam , et ponunt eam sub modio , sed super candelabrum , ut luceat omnibus qui in domo sunt .
ወኢያኀትዉ ማኅቶተ ከመ ያንብርዋ ታሕተ ከፈር አላ ያነብርዋ ዲበ ተቅዋማ ወታበርህ ለኵሎሙ እለ ውስተ ቤት ።
Neither do you light a lamp and put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand; and it shines to all who are in the house.
5:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ οὕτως λαμψάτω τὸ φῶς ὑμῶν ἔμπροσθεν τῶν ἀνθρώπων , ὅπως ἴδωσιν ὑμῶν τὰ καλὰ ἔργα καὶ δοξάσωσιν τὸν πατέρα ὑμῶν τὸν ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς .
Sic luceat lux vestra coram hominibus : ut videant opera vestra bona , et glorificent Patrem vestrum , qui in caelis est .
ከማሁኬ ይብራህ ብርሃንክሙ በቅድመ ሰብእ ከመ ይርአዩ ምግባሪክሙ ሠናየ ወይሰብሕዎ ለአቡክሙ ዘበሰማያት ።
Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
5:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ Μὴ νομίσητε ὅτι ἦλθον καταλῦσαι τὸν νόμον ἢ τοὺς προφήτας · οὐκ ἦλθον καταλῦσαι ἀλλὰ πληρῶσαι .
Nolite putare quoniam veni solvere legem aut prophetas : non veni solvere , sed adimplere .
ኢይምሰልክሙ ዘመጻእኩ እስዐሮሙ ለኦሪት ወለነቢያት ኢመጻእኩ እስዐሮሙ ዘእንበለ ዳእሙ ከመ እፈጽሞሙ ።
“Don’t think that I came to destroy the law or the prophets. I didn’t come to destroy, but to fulfill.
5:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀμὴν γὰρ λέγω ὑμῖν , ἕως ἂν παρέλθῃ ὁ οὐρανὸς καὶ ἡ γῆ , ἰῶτα ἓν ἢ μία κεραία οὐ μὴ παρέλθῃ ἀπὸ τοῦ νόμου ἕως ἂν πάντα γένηται .
Amen quippe dico vobis , donec transeat caelum et terra , jota unum aut unus apex non praeteribit a lege , donec omnia fiant .
አማን እብለክሙ እስከ አመ የኀልፍ ሰማይ ወምድር የውጣ እንተ አሐቲ ኅርመታ ወአሐቲ ቅርፀታ ኢተኀልፍ እምኦሪት ወእምነቢያት እስከ ሶበ ኵሉ ይከውን ።
For most certainly, I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not even one smallest letter or one tiny pen stroke shall in any way pass away from the law, until all things are accomplished.
5:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὃς ἐὰν οὖν λύσῃ μίαν τῶν ἐντολῶν τούτων τῶν ἐλαχίστων καὶ διδάξῃ οὕτως τοὺς ἀνθρώπους , ἐλάχιστος κληθήσεται ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τῶν οὐρανῶν · ὃς δ’ ἂν ποιήσῃ καὶ διδάξῃ , οὗτος μέγας κληθήσεται ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τῶν οὐρανῶν .
Qui ergo solverit unum de mandatis istis minimis , et docuerit sic homines , minimus vocabitur in regno caelorum : qui autem fecerit et docuerit , hic magnus vocabitur in regno caelorum .
ዘኬ ፈትሐ አሐተ እምእላ ትእዛዛት እንተ ተሐጽጽ ወይሜህር ከመዝ ለሰብእ ሕጹጸ ይከውን በመንግሥተ ሰማያት ወዘሰ ይሜህር ወይገብር ውእቱ ዐቢየ ይከውን በመንግሥተ ሰማያት ።
Therefore, whoever shall break one of these least commandments and teach others to do so, shall be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven; but whoever shall do and teach them shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.
5:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι ἐὰν μὴ περισσεύσῃ ὑμῶν ἡ δικαιοσύνη πλεῖον τῶν γραμματέων καὶ Φαρισαίων , οὐ μὴ εἰσέλθητε εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τῶν οὐρανῶν .
Dico enim vobis , quia nisi abundaverit justitia vestra plus quam scribarum et pharisaeorum , non intrabitis in regnum caelorum .
ናሁ እብለክሙ ከመ ለእመ ኢፈድፈደ ጽድቅክሙ ፈድፋደ እምጸሐፍት ወእምፈሪሳውያን ኢትበውኡ ውስተ መንግሥተ ሰማያት ።
For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, there is no way you will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.
5:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἠκούσατε ὅτι ἐρρέθη τοῖς ἀρχαίοις , οὐ φονεύσεις · ὃς δ’ ἂν φονεύσῃ , ἔνοχος ἔσται τῇ κρίσει .
Audistis quia dictum est antiquis : Non occides : qui autem occiderit , reus erit judicio .
ሰማዕክሙ ዘተብህለ ለቀደምትክሙ ኢትቅትል ነፍሰ ወዘሰ ቀተለ ረስሐ ውእቱ ለኵነኔ ።
“You have heard that it was said to the ancient ones, ‘You shall not murder;’ and ‘Whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’
5:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐγὼ δὲ λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι πᾶς ὁ ὀργιζόμενος τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ ἔνοχος ἔσται τῇ κρίσει · ὃς δ’ ἂν εἴπῃ τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ , ῥακά , ἔνοχος ἔσται τῷ συνεδρίῳ · ὃς δ’ ἂν εἴπῃ , μωρέ , ἔνοχος ἔσται εἰς τὴν γέενναν τοῦ πυρός .
Ego autem dico vobis : quia omnis qui irascitur fratri suo , reus erit judicio . Qui autem dixerit fratri suo , raca : reus erit concilio . Qui autem dixerit , fatue : reus erit gehennae ignis .
ወአንሰ እብለክሙ ኵሉ ዘያምዕዕ እኅዋሁ በከንቱ ረስሐ ውእቱ ለኵነኔ ወዘሂ ይቤሎ ለእኍሁ ኅሡር ዘፀርቅ ረስሐ ወይትኴነን በዐውድ ወዘሰ ይቤሎ አብድ ረስሐ ውእቱ ወይትኴነን በእሳተ ገሃነም ።
But I tell you that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause will be in danger of the judgment. Whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ will be in danger of the council. Whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of Gehenna.
5:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐὰν οὖν προσφέρῃς τὸ δῶρόν σου ἐπὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον κἀκεῖ μνησθῇς ὅτι ὁ ἀδελφός σου ἔχει τι κατὰ σοῦ ,
Si ergo offers munus tuum ad altare , et ibi recordatus fueris quia frater tuus habet aliquid adversum te :
ወእምከመኬ ታበውእ መባአከ ውስተ ምሥዋዕ ወበህየ ተዘከርከ ከመ ቦ እኁከ ዘተሓየሰከ ።
“If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you,
5:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἄφες ἐκεῖ τὸ δῶρόν σου ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου , καὶ ὕπαγε πρῶτον διαλλάγηθι τῷ ἀδελφῷ σου , καὶ τότε ἐλθὼν πρόσφερε τὸ δῶρόν σου .
relinque ibi munus tuum ante altare , et vade prius reconciliari fratri tuo : et tunc veniens offeres munus tuum .
ኅድግ ህየ መባአከ ቅድመ ምሥዋዕ ወሑር ቅድመ ተኳነን ምስለ እኁከ ወእምዝ ገቢአከ አብእ መባአከ ።
leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
5:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἴσθι εὐνοῶν τῷ ἀντιδίκῳ σου ταχὺ ἕως ὅτου εἶ μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ , μήποτέ σε παραδῷ ὁ ἀντίδικος τῷ κριτῇ , καὶ ὁ κριτὴς τῷ ὑπηρέτῃ , καὶ εἰς φυλακὴν βληθήσῃ ·
Esto consentiens adversario tuo cito dum es in via cum eo : ne forte tradat te adversarius judici , et judex tradat te ministro : et in carcerem mittaris .
ኩን ጠቢበ ለዕድውከ ፍጡነ እንዘ ሀሎከ ምስሌሁ ውስተ ፍኖት ከመ ኢይመጡከ ዕድውከ ለመኰንን ወመኰንን ይሜጥወከ ለወዓሊሁ ወወዓሊሁኒ ይሞቅሐከ ።
Agree with your adversary quickly while you are with him on the way; lest perhaps the prosecutor deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison.
5:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀμὴν λέγω σοι , οὐ μὴ ἐξέλθῃς ἐκεῖθεν ἕως ἂν ἀποδῷς τὸν ἔσχατον κοδράντην .
Amen dico tibi , non exies inde , donec reddas novissimum quadrantem .
አማን እብለከ ከመ ኢትወፅእ እምህየ እስከ ሶበ ትሴልጥ ደኃሪተ ገመስ ዘላዕሌከ ።
Most certainly I tell you, you shall by no means get out of there until you have paid the last penny.
5:27 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἠκούσατε ὅτι ἐρρέθη , οὐ μοιχεύσεις .
Audistis quia dictum est antiquis : Non moechaberis .
ሰማዕክሙ ዘተብህለ ለቀደምትክሙ ኢትዘሙ ።
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery;’
5:28 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐγὼ δὲ λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι πᾶς ὁ βλέπων γυναῖκα πρὸς τὸ ἐπιθυμῆσαι ἤδη ἐμοίχευσεν αὐτὴν ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ .
Ego autem dico vobis : quia omnis qui viderit mulierem ad concupiscendum eam , jam moechatus est eam in corde suo .
ወአንሰ እብለክሙ ኵሉ ዘርእያ ለብእሲት ወፈተዋ ወድአ ዘመወ ባቲ በልቡ ።
but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.
5:29 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἰ δὲ ὁ ὀφθαλμός σου ὁ δεξιὸς σκανδαλίζει σε , ἔξελε αὐτὸν καὶ βάλε ἀπὸ σοῦ · συμφέρει γάρ σοι ἵνα ἀπόληται ἓν τῶν μελῶν σου καὶ μὴ ὅλον τὸ σῶμά σου βληθῇ εἰς γέενναν .
Quod si oculus tuus dexter scandalizat te , erue eum , et projice abs te : expedit enim tibi ut pereat unum membrorum tuorum , quam totum corpus tuum mittatur in gehennam .
እመኒ ዐይንከ እንተ የማን ታስሕተከ ምልሓ ወግድፋ እምላዕሌከ እስመ ይኄይሰከ ነቋረከ ትባእ ውስተ መንግሥተ ሰማያት እምትባእ ምስለ ክልኤሆን አዕይንቲከ ውስተ እሳተ ገሃነም ።
If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna.
5:30 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ εἰ ἡ δεξιά σου χεὶρ σκανδαλίζει σε , ἔκκοψον αὐτὴν καὶ βάλε ἀπὸ σοῦ · συμφέρει γάρ σοι ἵνα ἀπόληται ἓν τῶν μελῶν σου καὶ μὴ ὅλον τὸ σῶμά σου εἰς γέενναν ἀπέλθῃ .
Et si dextra manus tua scandalizat te , abscide eam , et projice abs te : expedit enim tibi ut pereat unum membrorum tuorum , quam totum corpus tuum eat in gehennam .
ወእመኒ እዴከ እንተ የማን ታስሕተከ ምትራ ወግድፋ እምላዕሌከ እስመ ይኄይሰከ ይትኀጐል አሐዱ እምነ አባልከ እምኵሉ ሥጋከ ይትወደይ ውስተ እሳተ ገሃነም ወእመኒ እግርከ ዘየማን ታስሕተከ ምትራ ወግድፋ እምላዕሌከ እስመ ይኄይሰከ ሐንካሰከ ትባእ ውስተ መንግሥተ ሰማያት እምትባእ ምስለ ክልኤሆን እገሪከ ውስተ እሳተ ገሃነም ።
If your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off, and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna.
5:31 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἐρρέθη δέ , ὃς ἂν ἀπολύσῃ τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ , δότω αὐτῇ ἀποστάσιον .
Dictum est autem : Quicumque dimiserit uxorem suam , det ei libellum repudii .
ሰማዕክሙ ዘተብህለ ለቀደምትክሙ ኵሉ ዘይድኅር ብእሲቶ ይጽሐፍ ላቲ መጽሐፈ ኅድጋቲሃ ወየሀባ ወይድኀራ ።
“It was also said, ‘Whoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorce,’
5:32 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐγὼ δὲ λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι πᾶς ὁ ἀπολύων τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ παρεκτὸς λόγου πορνείας ποιεῖ αὐτὴν μοιχευθῆναι , καὶ ὃς ἐὰν ἀπολελυμένην γαμήσῃ μοιχᾶται .
Ego autem dico vobis : quia omnis qui dimiserit uxorem suam , excepta fornicationis causa , facit eam moechari : et qui dimissam duxerit , adulterat .
ወአንሰ እብለክሙ ኵሉ ዘይድኅር ብእሲቶ ዘእንበለ ትዘሙ በላዕሌሁ ለሊሁ ረሰያ ዘማ ወዘሂ ኅድገተ አውሰበ ዘመወ ።
but I tell you that whoever puts away his wife, except for the cause of sexual immorality, makes her an adulteress; and whoever marries her when she is put away commits adultery.
5:33 ⧉ ⤴︎ Πάλιν ἠκούσατε ὅτι ἐρρέθη τοῖς ἀρχαίοις · οὐκ ἐπιορκήσεις , ἀποδώσεις δὲ τῷ κυρίῳ τοὺς ὅρκους σου .
Iterum audistis quia dictum est antiquis : Non perjurabis : reddes autem Domino juramenta tua .
ወካዕበ ሰማዕክሙ ዘከመ ተብህለ ለቀደምትክሙ ኢትምሐሉ በሐሰት ወባሕቱ አግብኡ መሐላክሙ ለእግዚአብሔር ።
“Again you have heard that it was said to the ancient ones, ‘You shall not make false vows, but shall perform to the Lord your vows,’
5:34 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐγὼ δὲ λέγω ὑμῖν μὴ ὀμόσαι ὅλως · μήτε ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ , ὅτι θρόνος ἐστὶν τοῦ θεοῦ ·
Ego autem dico vobis , non jurare omnino , neque per caelum , quia thronus Dei est :
ወአንሰ እብለክሙ ኢትምሐሉ ግሙራ ኢ በሰማይ እስመ መንበሩ ለእግዚአብሔር ውእቱ ።
but I tell you, don’t swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God;
5:35 ⧉ ⤴︎ μήτε ἐν τῇ γῇ , ὅτι ὑποπόδιόν ἐστιν τῶν ποδῶν αὐτοῦ · μήτε εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα , ὅτι πόλις ἐστὶν τοῦ μεγάλου βασιλέως ·
neque per terram , quia scabellum est pedum ejus : neque per Jerosolymam , quia civitas est magni regis :
ወኢ በምድር እስመ መከየደ እገሪሁ ይእቲ ወኢ በኢየሩሳሌም እስመ ሀገሩ ይእቲ ለንጉሥ ዐቢይ ።
nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
5:36 ⧉ ⤴︎ μήτε ἐν τῇ κεφαλῇ σου ὀμόσῃς , ὅτι οὐ δύνασαι μίαν τρίχα λευκὴν ποιῆσαι ἢ μέλαιναν .
neque per caput tuum juraveris , quia non potes unum capillum album facere , aut nigrum .
ወኢ በርእስክሙ ኢትምሐሉ ወኢ በሥዕርተ ርእስክሙ እስመ ኢትክሉ አሐተ እምሥዕርተ ርእስክሙ ኢ አጻዕድዎ ወኢ አጽልሞ ።
Neither shall you swear by your head, for you can’t make one hair white or black.
5:37 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἔστω δὲ ὁ λόγος ὑμῶν ναὶ ναί , οὒ οὔ · τὸ δὲ περισσὸν τούτων ἐκ τοῦ πονηροῦ ἐστιν .
Sit autem sermo vester , est , est : non , non : quod autem his abundantius est , a malo est .
ባሕቱ ይኩን ነገርክሙ እመሂ እወ እወ ወእመሂ አልቦ አልቦ ወፈድፋደሰ እምእሉ እምእኩይ ውእቱ ።
But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’ and your ‘No’ be ‘No.’ Whatever is more than these is of the evil one.
5:38 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἠκούσατε ὅτι ἐρρέθη , ὀφθαλμὸν ἀντὶ ὀφθαλμοῦ καὶ ὀδόντα ἀντὶ ὀδόντος .
Audistis quia dictum est : Oculum pro oculo , et dentem pro dente .
ሰማዕክሙ ዘተብህለ ለቀደምትክሙ ዐይን ቤዛ ዐይን ወስን ቤዛ ስን ።
“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’
5:39 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐγὼ δὲ λέγω ὑμῖν μὴ ἀντιστῆναι τῷ πονηρῷ · ἀλλ’ ὅστις σε ῥαπίζει εἰς τὴν δεξιὰν σιαγόνα , στρέψον αὐτῷ καὶ τὴν ἄλλην ·
Ego autem dico vobis , non resistere malo : sed si quis te percusserit in dexteram maxillam tuam , praebe illi et alteram :
ወአንሰኬ እብለክሙ ኢትትቃወምዎ ለእኩይ በእኩይ ወለዘሂ ጸፍዐከ መልታሕቴከ እንተ የማን ሚጥ ሎቱ ካልእታሂ ።
But I tell you, don’t resist him who is evil; but whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.
5:40 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ τῷ θέλοντί σοι κριθῆναι καὶ τὸν χιτῶνά σου λαβεῖν , ἄφες αὐτῷ καὶ τὸ ἱμάτιον ·
et ei , qui vult tecum judicio contendere , et tunicam tuam tollere , dimitte ei et pallium :
ወለዘሂ ይፈቅድ ይትዐገልከ መልበሰከ ኅድግ ሎቱ ክዳነከሂ ።
If anyone sues you to take away your coat, let him have your cloak also.
5:41 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ὅστις σε ἀγγαρεύσει μίλιον ἕν , ὕπαγε μετ’ αὐτοῦ δύο .
et quicumque te angariaverit mille passus , vade cum illo et alia duo .
ወለዘሂ ዐበጠከ አሐደ ምዕራፈ ሑር ምስሌሁ ክልኤተ ምዕራፈ ።
Whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.
5:42 ⧉ ⤴︎ τῷ αἰτοῦντί σε δός , καὶ τὸν θέλοντα ἀπὸ σοῦ δανίσασθαι μὴ ἀποστραφῇς .
Qui petit a te , da ei : et volenti mutuari a te , ne avertaris .
ወለኵሉ ዘሰአለከ ሀቦ ወለዘሂ ይፈቅድ እምኔከ ይትለቃሕ ኢትክልኦ ።
Give to him who asks you, and don’t turn away him who desires to borrow from you.
5:43 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ἠκούσατε ὅτι ἐρρέθη , ἀγαπήσεις τὸν πλησίον σου καὶ μισήσεις τὸν ἐχθρόν σου .
Audistis quia dictum est : Diliges proximum tuum , et odio habebis inimicum tuum .
ሰማዕክሙ ዘተብህለ «አፍቅር ቢጸከ ወጽላእ ጸላኢከ ።»
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’
5:44 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐγὼ δὲ λέγω ὑμῖν , ἀγαπᾶτε τοὺς ἐχθροὺς ὑμῶν καὶ προσεύχεσθε ὑπὲρ τῶν διωκόντων ὑμᾶς ,
Ego autem dico vobis : diligite inimicos vestros , benefacite his qui oderunt vos , et orate pro persequentibus et calumniantibus vos :
ወአንሰ እብለክሙ አፍቅሩ ጸላእተክሙ ወባርክዎሙ ለእለ ይረግሙክሙ ወሠናየ ግበሩ ለእለ ይጸልኡክሙ ወጸልዩ በእንተ እለ ይትዔገሉክሙ ወይሰድዱክሙ ።
But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you,
5:45 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὅπως γένησθε υἱοὶ τοῦ πατρὸς ὑμῶν τοῦ ἐν οὐρανοῖς , ὅτι τὸν ἥλιον αὐτοῦ ἀνατέλλει ἐπὶ πονηροὺς καὶ ἀγαθοὺς καὶ βρέχει ἐπὶ δικαίους καὶ ἀδίκους .
ut sitis filii Patris vestri , qui in caelis est : qui solem suum oriri facit super bonos et malos : et pluit super justos et injustos .
ከመ ትኩኑ ውሉዶ ለአቡክሙ ዘበሰማያት እስመ ውእቱ ያሠርቅ ፀሓየ ላዕለ ኄራን ወእኩያን ወያዘንም ዝናመ ላዕለ ጻድቃን ወኃጥኣን ።
that you may be children of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust.
5:46 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐὰν γὰρ ἀγαπήσητε τοὺς ἀγαπῶντας ὑμᾶς , τίνα μισθὸν ἔχετε ; οὐχὶ καὶ οἱ τελῶναι τὸ αὐτὸ ποιοῦσιν ;
Si enim diligitis eos qui vos diligunt , quam mercedem habebitis ? nonne et publicani hoc faciunt ?
ወእመሰ ታፈቅሩ ዘያፈቅረክሙ ምንትኑ ዕሴትክሙ አኮሁ መጸብሓንሂ ከማሁሰ ይገብሩ ።
For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Don’t even the tax collectors do the same?
5:47 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ ἐὰν ἀσπάσησθε τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς ὑμῶν μόνον , τί περισσὸν ποιεῖτε ; οὐχὶ καὶ οἱ ἐθνικοὶ τὸ αὐτὸ ποιοῦσιν ;
Et si salutaveritis fratres vestros tantum , quid amplius facitis ? nonne et ethnici hoc faciunt ?
ወእመ ተአማኅክሙ አኀዊክሙ ምንት እንከ ፍድፋዴ ዘገበርክሙ አኮኑ አሕዛብኒ ከማሁሰ ይገብሩ ።
If you only greet your friends, what more do you do than others? Don’t even the tax collectors do the same?
5:48 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἔσεσθε οὖν ὑμεῖς τέλειοι ὡς ὁ πατὴρ ὑμῶν ὁ οὐράνιος τέλειός ἐστιν .
Estote ergo vos perfecti , sicut et Pater vester caelestis perfectus est .
አንትሙሰ ኩኑ ፍጹማነ ከመ አቡክሙ ሰማያዊ ፍጹም ውእቱ ።
Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
