ὁ ζῶν εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα ἔκτισεν τὰ πάντα κοινῇ
Qui vivet in æternum creavit omnia simul. Deus solus justificabitur, et manet invictus rex in æternum.

He that lives forever created all things in common.
18:2
κύριος μόνος δικαιωθήσεται
Quis sufficit enarrare opera illius ?
እግዚአብሔር፡ ባሕቲቱ፡ ጻድቅ።
The Lord alone will be justified.
18:3—
quis enim investigabit magnalia ejus ?
—
For who shall search out his mighty works?
18:4
οὐθενὶ ἐξεποίησεν ἐξαγγεῖλαι τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ καὶ τίς ἐξιχνεύσει τὰ μεγαλεῖα αὐτοῦ
virtutem autem magnitudinis ejus quis enuntiabit ? aut quis adjiciet enarrare misericordiam ejus ?
ወኢያብሐ፡ መኑሂ፡ ያአምር፡ ግብሮ፡ ወመኑ፡ ያአምር፡ አሠረ፡ ዕበዩ።
To none has he given power to declare his works: And who will trace out his mighty deeds?
18:5
κράτος μεγαλωσύνης αὐτοῦ τίς ἐξαριθμήσεται καὶ τίς προσθήσει ἐκδιηγήσασθαι τὰ ἐλέη αὐτοῦ
Non est minuere neque adjicere, nec est invenire magnalia Dei.
ወመኑ፡ ኈለቈ፡ ጽንዐ፡ ኀይሉ፡ ወመኑ፡ ይክል፡ ነጊረ፡ ምሕረቱ፡ ጥንቁቀ።
Who shall number the strength of his majesty? And who shall also tell out his mercies?
18:6
οὐκ ἔστιν ἐλαττῶσαι οὐδὲ προσθεῖναι καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ἐξιχνιάσαι τὰ θαυμάσια τοῦ κυρίου
Cum consummaverit homo, tunc incipiet : et cum quieverit, aporiabitur.
አልቦ፡ ከመ፡ ይወስኩ፡ ወአልቦ፡ ከመ፡ ያንትጉ፡ ወአልቦ፡ ዘይረክብ፡ አሠረ፡ ስብሐቲሁ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር።
As for the wondrous works of the Lord, it is not possible to take from them nor add to them, Neither is it possible to track them out.
18:7
ὅταν συντελέσῃ ἄνθρωπος τότε ἄρχεται καὶ ὅταν παύσηται τότε ἀπορηθήσεται
Quid est homo ? et quæ est gratia illius ? et quid bonum aut quid nequam illius ?
አመ፡ ይፈጥሮ፡ ለእጓለ፡ እመሕያው፡ ይእተ፡ አሚረ፡ ይኤዝዞ፡ ወአመ፡ ያሰልጦ፡ ይእተ፡ አሚረ፡ ያዐርፎ።
When a man has finished, then he is but at the beginning; And when he ceaseth, then will he be in perplexity.
18:8
τί ἄνθρωπος καὶ τί ἡ χρῆσις αὐτοῦ τί τὸ ἀγαθὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ τί τὸ κακὸν αὐτοῦ
Numerus dierum hominum, ut multum centum anni, quasi gutta aquæ maris deputati sunt : et sicut calculus arenæ, sic exigui anni in die ævi.
ምንት፡ ውእቱ፡ እጓለ፡ እመሕያው፡ ወምንት፡ በቊዑ፡ ምንትኑ፡ ሠናይቱ፡ ወምንትኑ፡ እኪቱ።
What is man, and whereto serves he? What is his good, and what is his evil?
18:9
ἀριθμὸς ἡμερῶν ἀνθρώπου πολλὰ ἔτη ἑκατόν
Propter hoc patiens est Deus in illis, et effundit super eos misericordiam suam.
ኈልቈ፡ መዋዕሊሁ፡ ምእተ፡ ክረምቱ።
The number of man’s days at the most are a hundred years.
18:10
ὡς σταγὼν ὕδατος ἀπὸ θαλάσσης καὶ ψῆφος ἄμμου οὕτως ὀλίγα ἔτη ἐν ἡμέρᾳ αἰῶνος
Vidit præsumptionem cordis eorum, quoniam mala est : et cognovit subversionem illorum, quoniam nequam est.
ከመ፡ አሐቲ፡ ነጠብጣበ፡ ማይ፡ ውስተ፡ ኵሉ፡ ማየ፡ ባሕር፡ ወከመ፡ አሐቲ፡ ኅጠተ፡ ኆጻ፡ እምውስተ፡ ኵሉ፡ ኆጻ፡ ከማሁ፡ ኅዳጥ፡ ዓመቲሁ፡ እምውስተ፡ ኵሉ፡ መዋዕለ፡ ዓለም።
As a drop of water from the sea, and a pebble from the sand; So are a few years in the day of eternity.
18:11
διὰ τοῦτο ἐμακροθύμησεν κύριος ἐπ’ αὐτοῖς καὶ ἐξέχεεν ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς τὸ ἔλεος αὐτοῦ
Ideo adimplevit propitiationem suam in illis, et ostendit eis viam æquitatis.
እንበይነዝ፡ ይትዔገሦሙ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወሶጠ፡ ምሕረቶ፡ ላዕሌሆሙ።
For this cause the Lord was longsuffering over them, And poured out his mercy upon them.
18:12
εἶδεν καὶ ἐπέγνω τὴν καταστροφὴν αὐτῶν ὅτι πονηρά διὰ τοῦτο ἐπλήθυνεν τὸν ἐξιλασμὸν αὐτοῦ
Miseratio hominis circa proximum suum : misericordia autem Dei super omnem carnem.
ርእዮሙ፡ ወአእመሮሙ፡ ከመ፡ እኪት፡ ደኃሪቶሙ፡ እስመ፡ ከማሁ፡ አብዝኀ፡ ምሕረቶ።
He saw and perceived their end, that it is evil; Therefore he multiplied his forgiveness.
18:13
ἔλεος ἀνθρώπου ἐπὶ τὸν πλησίον αὐτοῦ ἔλεος δὲ κυρίου ἐπὶ πᾶσαν σάρκα ἐλέγχων καὶ παιδεύων καὶ διδάσκων καὶ ἐπιστρέφων ὡς ποιμὴν τὸ ποίμνιον αὐτοῦ
Qui misericordiam habet, docet et erudit quasi pastor gregem suum.
ሰብእሰ፡ ይምሕር፡ ቢጾ፡ ወእግዚአብሔር፡ ባሕ(ቲ)ቱ፡ ይሣሀል፡ ለኵሉ፡ ዘነፍስ፡ ወይጌሥጽሂ፡ ወይሜህርሂ፡ ወይመይጥ፡ ከመ፡ ኖላዊ፡ መርዔቶ።
The mercy of a man is upon his neighbor; But the mercy of the Lord is upon all flesh; Reproving, and chastening, and teaching, And bringing again, as a shepherd does his flock.
18:14
τοὺς ἐκδεχομένους παιδείαν ἐλεᾷ καὶ τοὺς κατασπεύδοντας ἐπὶ τὰ κρίματα αὐτοῦ
Miseretur excipientis doctrinam miserationis, et qui festinat in judiciis ejus.
ወይሣሀሎሙ፡ ለእለ፡ ይትዔገሡ፡ በተግሣጹ፡ ወለእለ፡ ይተልዉ፡ ሕጎ።
He has mercy on those who accept chastening, And that diligently seek after his judgements.
18:15
τέκνον ἐν ἀγαθοῖς μὴ δῷς μῶμον καὶ ἐν πάσῃ δόσει λύπην λόγων
Fili, in bonis non des querelam, et in omni dato non des tristitiam verbi mali.
ወልድየ፡ ውስተ፡ ትፍሥሕት፡ ኢታምጽእ፡ ሐዘነ፡ ወበኵሉ፡ ዘትሁብ፡ ኢታሕሥም፡ ቃለ።
My son, to your good deeds add no blemish; And no grief of words in any of your giving.
18:16
οὐχὶ καύσωνα ἀναπαύσει δρόσος οὕτως κρείσσων λόγος ἢ δόσις
Nonne ardorem refrigerabit ros ? sic et verbum melius quam datum.
አኮኑ፡ ዝናም፡ ያቈርሮ፡ ለመርቄ፡ ከማሁ፡ ቃል፡ ሠናይ፡ ይኄይስ፡ እምውሂብ።
Shall not the dew assuage the scorching heat? So is a word better than a gift.
18:17
οὐκ ἰδοὺ λόγος ὑπὲρ δόμα ἀγαθόν καὶ ἀμφότερα παρὰ ἀνδρὶ κεχαριτωμένῳ
Nonne ecce verbum super datum bonum ? sed utraque cum homine justificato.
ናሁኬ፡ እንከ፡ ይትበደር፡ ቃል፡ ሠናይ፡ እምውሂብ፡ ወክልኤሆን፡ በኀበ፡ ብእሲ፡ ጻድቅ፡ ይትረከቡ።
Behold, is not a word better than a gift? And both are with a gracious man.
18:18
μωρὸς ἀχαρίστως ὀνειδιεῖ καὶ δόσις βασκάνου ἐκτήκει ὀφθαλμούς
Stultus acriter improperabit : et datus indisciplinati tabescere facit oculos.
(ወ)ይሁብ፡ ደንጻዊ፡ እንዘ፡ ኢይሔውዞ፡ ለልብ፡ ወአብድኒ፡ ይዘረኪ፡ ወኢያአኵት።
A fool will upbrade ungraciously; And the gift of an envious man consumes the eyes.
18:19
πρὶν ἢ λαλῆσαι μάνθανε καὶ πρὸ ἀρρωστίας θεραπεύου
Ante judicium para justitiam tibi, et antequam loquaris, disce.
እንበለ፡ ትንብብ፡ ጠይቅ፡ ወእንበለ፡ ትሕምም፡ ተፈወስ።
Learn before you speak; And have a care of your health or ever you be sick.
18:20
πρὸ κρίσεως ἐξέταζε σεαυτόν καὶ ἐν ὥρᾳ ἐπισκοπῆς εὑρήσεις ἐξιλασμόν
Ante languorem adhibe medicinam : et ante judicium interroga teipsum, et in conspectu Dei invenies propitiationem.
ወአእንበለ፡ ትትኰነን፡ ተሐተት፡ ወትረክብ፡ ሣህለ፡ ለጊዜ፡ ምንዳቤከ።
Before judgement examine yourself; And in the hour of visitation you will find forgiveness.
18:21
πρὶν ἀρρωστῆσαί σε ταπεινώθητι καὶ ἐν καιρῷ ἁμαρτημάτων δεῖξον ἐπιστροφήν
Ante languorem humilia te, et in tempore infirmitatis ostende conversationem tuam.
ዘእንበለ፡ ትድክም፡ አትሕት፡ ርእሰከ፡ ወተጋነይ፡ ሶበ፡ ትኤብስ።
Humble yourself before you be sick; And in the time of sins show repentance.
18:22
μὴ ἐμποδισθῇς τοῦ ἀποδοῦναι εὐχὴν εὐκαίρως καὶ μὴ μείνῃς ἕως θανάτου δικαιωθῆναι
Non impediaris orare semper, et ne verearis usque ad mortem justificari, quoniam merces Dei manet in æternum.
ወኢትጐንዲ፡ ውሂበ፡ ብፅዐቲከ፡ ወግበራ፡ ለጽድቅ፡ እንበለ፡ ትሙት።
Let nothing hinder you to pay your vow in due time; And wait not until death to be justified.
18:23
πρὶν εὔξασθαι ἑτοίμασον σεαυτὸν καὶ μὴ γίνου ὡς ἄνθρωπος πειράζων τὸν κύριον
Ante orationem præpara animam tuam, et noli esse quasi homo qui tentat Deum.
ወእንበለ፡ ትብፃዕ፡ አስተዳሉ፡ ብፅዐቲከ፡ ወኢትኩን፡ ከመ፡ ዘያሜክሮ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር።
Before you make a vow, prepare yourself; And be not as a man that tempts the Lord.
18:24
μνήσθητι θυμοῦ ἐν ἡμέραις τελευτῆς καὶ καιρὸν ἐκδικήσεως ἐν ἀποστροφῇ προσώπου
Memento iræ in die consummationis, et tempus retributionis in conversatione faciei.
ሶበ፡ ትትመዐዕ፡ ተዘከር፡ ዕለተ፡ ሞት፡ ወተዘከር፡ ዕለተ፡ ፍዳከ፡ ወነሥሕ፡ ወተጋነይ።
Think upon the wrath that will be in the days of the end, And the time of vengeance, when he turns away his face.
18:25
μνήσθητι καιρὸν λιμοῦ ἐν καιρῷ πλησμονῆς πτωχείαν καὶ ἔνδειαν ἐν ἡμέραις πλούτου
Memento paupertatis in tempore abundantiæ, et necessitatum paupertatis in die divitiarum.
ወተዘከር፡ መዋዕለ፡ ረኃብ፡ አመ፡ መዋዕለ፡ ጽጋብ፡ ወተዘከር፡ መዋዕለ፡ ተጽናስ፡ አመ፡ መዋዕለ፡ ትዴሉ።
In the days of fulness remember the time of hunger, And poverty and lack in the days of wealth.
18:26
ἀπὸ πρωίθεν ἕως ἑσπέρας μεταβάλλει καιρός καὶ πάντα ἐστὶν ταχινὰ ἔναντι κυρίου
A mane usque ad vesperam immutabitur tempus, et hæc omnia citata in oculis Dei.
እስመ፡ እምነግህ፡ እስከ፡ ሰርክ፡ ትትዐለው፡ መንበርት፡ ወኵሉ፡ ፍጡን፡ በኀበ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡(ለእንተ፡ምዕር)።
From morning until evening the time changes; And all things are speedy before the Lord.
18:27
ἄνθρωπος σοφὸς ἐν παντὶ εὐλαβηθήσεται καὶ ἐν ἡμέραις ἁμαρτιῶν προσέξει ἀπὸ πλημμελείας
Homo sapiens in omnibus metuet, et in diebus delictorum attendet ab inertia.
ወብእሲሰ፡ ጠቢብ፡ ይፈርህ፡ በኵሉ፡ ወይትዐቀብ፡ ወበመዋዕለ፡ ትኤብስ፡ ተነሳሕ።
A wise man will fear in everything; And in days of sinning he will beware of offence.
18:28
πᾶς συνετὸς ἔγνω σοφίαν καὶ τῷ εὑρόντι αὐτὴν δώσει ἐξομολόγησιν
Omnis astutus agnoscit sapientiam, et invenienti eam dabit confessionem.
ወኵሉ፡ ለባዊ፡ ይረክባ፡ ለጥበብ፡ ወለዘ፡ ረከባሂ፡ ታአምኖ፡ ወታፈርሆ።
Every man of understanding knows wisdom; And he will give thanks to him that found her.
18:29
συνετοὶ ἐν λόγοις καὶ αὐτοὶ ἐσοφίσαντο καὶ ἀνώμβρησαν παροιμίας ἀκριβεῖς
Sensati in verbis et ipsi sapienter egerunt, et intellexerunt veritatem et justitiam, et impluerunt proverbia et judicia.
ማእምራነ፡ ቃል፡ ይጠብቡ፡ ለሊሆሙ፡ በልቦሙ፡ ወይነግሩ፡ አምሳለ፡ ጥንቁቀ።
They that were of understanding in sayings became also wise themselves, And poured forth apt proverbs.
18:30
ὀπίσω τῶν ἐπιθυμιῶν σου μὴ πορεύου καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν ὀρέξεών σου κωλύου
Post concupiscentias tuas non eas, et a voluntate tua avertere.
ኢትሖር፡ ወኢትትሉ፡ ፈቃዳ፡ ለኀጢአት፡ ወተዐገሥ፡ እምፍትወተ፡ እኩይ።
Go not after your lusts; And refrain yourself from your appetites.
18:31
ἐὰν χορηγήσῃς τῇ ψυχῇ σου εὐδοκίαν ἐπιθυμίας ποιήσει σε ἐπίχαρμα τῶν ἐχθρῶν σου
Si præstes animæ tuæ concupiscentias ejus, faciat te in gaudium inimicis tuis.
ወእመሰ፡ ወሀብካሃ፡ ዘትፈቱ፡ ለነፍስከ፡ ትሬስየከ፡ ጥቡዐ፡ ለጸላኢከ።
If you give fully to your soul the delight of her desire, She will make you the laughing stock of your enemies.
18:32
μὴ εὐφραίνου ἐπὶ πολλῇ τρυφῇ μὴ προσδεθῇς συμβολῇ αὐτῆς
Ne oblecteris in turbis nec in modicis : assidua enim est commissio illorum.
—
Make not merry in much luxury; Neither be tied to the expense thereof.
18:33
μὴ γίνου πτωχὸς συμβολοκοπῶν ἐκ δανεισμοῦ καὶ οὐδέν σοί ἐστιν ἐν μαρσιππίῳ
Ne fueris mediocris in contentione ex fœnore, et est tibi nihil in sacculo : eris enim invidus vitæ tuæ.
ኢትትለቃሕ፡ እንዘ፡ ነዳይ፡ አንተ፡ ከመ፡ ኢትሠገር፡ እንዘ፡ አልብከ፡ ወኢምንተኒ፡ ውስተ፡ ቊናማቲከ።
Be not made a beggar by banqueting upon borrowing, When you have nothing in your purse.
