ἐξομολογήσομαί σοι κύριε βασιλεῦ καὶ αἰνέσω σε θεὸν τὸν σωτῆρά μου ἐξομολογοῦμαι τῷ ὀνόματί σου
Oratio Jesu filii Sirach. Confitebor tibi, Domine rex, et collaudabo te Deum salvatorem meum.
እገኒ፡ ለከ፡ እግዚኦ፡ ንጉሥ፡ ወእሴብሐከ፡ አምላኪየ፡ ወመድኀኒየ፡ ወእትአመን፡ በስምከ።
I will give thanks to you, O Lord, O King, And will praise you, O God my Saviour: I do give thanks to your name:
51:2
ὅτι σκεπαστὴς καὶ βοηθὸς ἐγένου μοι καὶ ἐλυτρώσω τὸ σῶμά μου ἐξ ἀπωλείας καὶ ἐκ παγίδος διαβολῆς γλώσσης ἀπὸ χειλέων ἐργαζομένων ψεῦδος καὶ ἔναντι τῶν παρεστηκότων ἐγένου βοηθὸς καὶ ἐλυτρώσω με
Confitebor nomini tuo, quoniam adjutor et protector factus es mihi,
እስመ፡ ኮንከኒ፡ ረዳኤ፡ ወመሰውረ፡ ወቤዘውኮ፡ ለሥጋየ፡ እምነ፡ ሞት፡ ወእምነ፡ መሥገርተ፡ ውድየተ፡ ልሳን፡ ወእምነ፡ አእላፍ፡ እለ፡ ይትጌበርዋ፡ ለሐሰት። በቅድመ፡ ኵሎሙ፡ እለ፡ ቆሙ፡ ላዕሌየ፡ ኮንከኒ፡ ረዳእየ፡ ወመሰውርየ።
For you were my protector and helper, And did deliver my body out of destruction, And out of the snare of a slanderous tongue, From lips that forge lies, And was my helper before those who stood by;
51:3
κατὰ τὸ πλῆθος ἐλέους καὶ ὀνόματός σου ἐκ βρυγμῶν ἕτοιμον εἰς βρῶμα ἐκ χειρὸς ζητούντων τὴν ψυχήν μου ἐκ πλειόνων θλίψεων ὧν ἔσχον
et liberasti corpus meum a perditione : a laqueo linguæ iniquæ, et a labiis operantium mendacium : et in conspectu astantium factus es mihi adjutor.
ወቤዘውከኒ፡ በከመ፡ ብዝኀ፡ ምሕረትከ፡ ወበእንተ፡ ስምከ። ከመ፡ ዘየሐቅዩ፡ ዘአስተዳለዉ፡ ይብልዑ፡ ከማሁ፡ ኀሠሥዋ፡ ለነፍስየ፡ በብዝኀ፡ ሕማም፡ እንተ፡ ረከበተኒ።
And did deliver me, according to the abundance of your mercy, and greatness of your name, From the gnashings of teeth ready to devour, Out of the hand of such as sought my life, Out of the manifold afflictions which I had;
51:4
ἀπὸ πνιγμοῦ πυρᾶς κυκλόθεν καὶ ἐκ μέσου πυρός οὗ οὐκ ἐξέκαυσα
Et liberasti me, secundum multitudinem misericordiæ nominis tui, a rugientibus præparatis ad escam :
ወከመ፡ ዘዐገቶ፡ እሳት፡ ወኢይውዒ፡ በማእከለ፡ እሳት።
From the choking of a fire on every side, And out of the midst of fire which I kindled not;
51:5
ἐκ βάθους κοιλίας ᾅδου καὶ ἀπὸ γλώσσης ἀκαθάρτου καὶ λόγου ψευδοῦς
de manibus quærentium animam meam, et de portis tribulationum quæ circumdederunt me ;
ወእምታሕቱ፡ እምከርሠ፡ ሞት፡ ወእምልሳን፡ ግሙን፡ ወእምቃለ፡ ሐሰት።
Out of the depth of the belly of the grave, And from an unclean tongue, And from lying words,
51:6
βασιλεῖ διαβολὴ γλώσσης ἀδίκου ἤγγισεν ἕως θανάτου ἡ ψυχή μου καὶ ἡ ζωή μου ἦν σύνεγγυς ᾅδου κάτω
a pressura flammæ quæ circumdedit me, et in medio ignis non sum æstuatus ;
ልሳን፡ ዐማፂ፡ ዘያስተዳጕጽ፡ ኀበ፡ ንጉሥ፡ ወአብጽሓ፡ ውስተ፡ ሞት፡ ለ(ሕይወትየ፡ ወለ)ነፍስ፡ ወሕይወትየኒ፡ አልጸቀት፡ ለመቃብር።
The slander of an unrighteous tongue to the king. My soul drew near even to death, And my life was near to the grave beneath.
51:7
περιέσχον με πάντοθεν καὶ οὐκ ἦν ὁ βοηθῶν ἐνέβλεπον εἰς ἀντίλημψιν ἀνθρώπων καὶ οὐκ ἦν
de altitudine ventris inferi, et a lingua coinquinata, et a verbo mendacii, a rege iniquo, et a lingua injusta.
ወዐገቱኒ፡ እምኵለሄ፡ ወኀጣእኩ፡ ረዳኤ፡ ወተናጸርኩ፡ እመቦ፡ ዘይትዔዘበኒ፡ ሰብእ፡ ወአልቦ።
They compassed me on every side, And there was none to help me. I was looking for the succour of men, And it was not.
51:8
καὶ ἐμνήσθην τοῦ ἐλέους σου κύριε καὶ τῆς ἐργασίας σου τῆς ἀπ’ αἰῶνος ὅτι ἐξαιρῇ τοὺς ὑπομένοντάς σε καὶ σῴζεις αὐτοὺς ἐκ χειρὸς ἐχθρῶν
Laudabit usque ad mortem anima mea Dominum,
ወተዘከርኩ፡ ሣህለከ፡ እግዚኦ፡ ወግብረከኒ፡ ዘእምፍጥረተ፡ ዓለም፡ እስመ፡ ብፁዓን፡ እለ፡ ኪያከ፡ ይሴፈዉ፡ ወታድኅኖሙ፡ እምእደ፡ ፀሮሙ።
And I remembered your mercy, O Lord, And your working which has been from everlasting, How you deliver those who wait for you, And save them out of the hand of the enemies.
51:9
καὶ ἀνύψωσα ἀπὸ γῆς ἱκετείαν μου καὶ ὑπὲρ θανάτου ῥύσεως ἐδεήθην
et vita mea appropinquans erat in inferno deorsum.
ወአንሣእከኒ፡ እመነ፡ ምድር፡ እምኀጢአትየ፡ ወሰአልኩ፡ ከመ፡ እድኅን፡ እሞት።
And I lifted up my supplication from the earth, And prayed for deliverance from death.
51:10
ἐπεκαλεσάμην κύριον πατέρα κυρίου μου μή με ἐγκαταλιπεῖν ἐν ἡμέραις θλίψεως ἐν καιρῷ ὑπερηφανιῶν ἀβοηθησίας αἰνέσω τὸ ὄνομά σου ἐνδελεχῶς καὶ ὑμνήσω ἐν ἐξομολογήσει
Circumdederunt me undique, et non erat qui adjuvaret : respiciens eram ad adjutorium hominum, et non erat.
ወእቤሎ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር፡ አቡየ፡ ወእግዚእየ፡ ኢትኅድገኒ፡ አመ፡ ምንዳቤየ፡ በመዋዕለ፡ ዕቡያን፡ ኀበ፡ አልቦ፡ ረድኤት።
I called upon the Lord, the Father of my Lord, That he would not forsake me in the days of affliction, In the time when there was no help against the proud.
51:11
καὶ εἰσηκούσθη ἡ δέησίς μου ἔσωσας γάρ με ἐξ ἀπωλείας καὶ ἐξείλου με ἐκ καιροῦ πονηροῦ
Memoratus sum misericordiæ tuæ Domine, et operationis tuæ, quæ a sæculo sunt :
ወእሴብሕ፡ ለስምከ፡ ለዝሉፉ፡ ወእገኒ፡ ወአነብብ፡ ወ[ሰ]ምዐኒ፡ ስእለትየ።
I will praise your name continually, And will sing praise with thanksgiving; And my supplication was heard:
51:12
διὰ τοῦτο ἐξομολογήσομαί σοι καὶ αἰνέσω σε καὶ εὐλογήσω τῷ ὀνόματι κυρίου
quoniam eruis sustinentes te, Domine, et liberas eos de manibus gentium.
ወአድ[ኅ]ነኒ፡ እሞት፡ ወባልሐኒ፡ እምዕለት፡ እኪት፡ እንበይነ፡ ዝንቱ፡ እገኒ፡ ለከ፡ ወእሴብሐከ፡ ወእባርክ፡ ለስምከ፡ እግዚኦ።
For you saved me from destruction, And delivered me from the evil time: Therefore will I give thanks and praise to you, And bless the name of the Lord.
51:13
ἔτι ὢν νεώτερος πρὶν ἢ πλανηθῆναί με ἐζήτησα σοφίαν προφανῶς ἐν προσευχῇ μου
Exaltasti super terram habitationem meam, et pro morte defluente deprecatus sum.
እንዘ፡ ንኡስ፡ አነ፡ እንበለ፡ እስሐት፡ ኀሠሥክዋ፡ ለጥበብ፡ ወአበደርክዋ፡ በጸሎትየ።
When I was yet young, Or ever I went abroad, I sought wisdom openly in my prayer.
51:14
ἔναντι ναοῦ ἠξίουν περὶ αὐτῆς καὶ ἕως ἐσχάτων ἐκζητήσω αὐτήν
Invocavi Dominum patrem Domini mei, ut non derelinquat me in die tribulationis meæ, et in tempore superborum, sine adjutorio.
ወበቅድመ፡ መቅደስ፡ ሰአልኩ፡ በእንቲአሃ፡ ለዝሉፉ፡ አኀሥሣ።
Before the temple I asked for her, And I will seek her out even to the end.
51:15
ἐξ ἄνθους ὡς περκαζούσης σταφυλῆς εὐφράνθη ἡ καρδία μου ἐν αὐτῇ ἐπέβη ὁ πούς μου ἐν εὐθύτητι ἐκ νεότητός μου ἴχνευον αὐτήν
Laudabo nomen tuum assidue, et collaudabo illud in confessione : et exaudita est oratio mea,
ወሠረጸ፡ ፍሬሃ፡ ከመ፡ ቆዐ፡ ቀምሕ፡ ወተፈሥሐ፡ ልብየ፡ ባቲ፡ ወቆመት፡ እግርየ፡ በጽድቅ፡ ወእምንእስየ፡ ተለውኩ፡ አሠራ።
From her flower as from the ripening grape my heart delighted in her: My foot trod in uprightness, From my youth I tracked her out.
51:16
ἔκλινα ὀλίγον τὸ οὖς μου καὶ ἐδεξάμην καὶ πολλὴν εὗρον ἐμαυτῷ παιδείαν
et liberasti me de perditione, et eripuisti me de tempore iniquo.
ወአፅማእኩ፡ ሕቀ፡ በእዝንየ፡ ወኀረይክዋ፡ ወብዙኀ፡ ጥበበ፡ [ረከብ]ኩ፡ ሊተ።
I bowed down my ear a little, and received her, And found for myself much instruction.
51:17
προκοπὴ ἐγένετό μοι ἐν αὐτῇ τῷ διδόντι μοι σοφίαν δώσω δόξαν
Propterea confitebor, et laudem dicam tibi, et benedicam nomini Domini.
ወኮነኒ፡ ተልዕሎ፡ ባቲ፡ ወእሴብሖ፡ ለዘወሀበኒያ፡ ለጥበብ።
I profited in her: To him that gives me wisdom I will give glory.
51:18
διενοήθην γὰρ τοῦ ποιῆσαι αὐτὴν καὶ ἐζήλωσα τὸ ἀγαθὸν καὶ οὐ μὴ αἰσχυνθῶ
Cum adhuc junior essem, priusquam oberrarem, quæsivi sapientiam palam in oratione mea.
ወኀለይኩ፡ ከመ፡ እግበራ፡ ወቀናእኩ፡ ለሠናይ፡ ወኢይትኀፈር።
For I purposed to practice her, And I was zealous for that which is good; And I shall never be put to shame.
51:19
διαμεμάχισται ἡ ψυχή μου ἐν αὐτῇ καὶ ἐν ποιήσει νόμου διηκριβασάμην τὰς χεῖράς μου ἐξεπέτασα πρὸς ὕψος καὶ τὰ ἀγνοήματα αὐτῆς ἐπένθησα
Ante templum postulabam pro illis, et usque in novissimis inquiram eam : et effloruit tamquam præcox uva.
ወተኀየለት፡ ነፍስ፡ባቲ፡ ወጠበብኩ፡ በግብርየ፡ ወአንሣእኩ፡ ላዕለ፡ እደዊየ፡ ወለሐውክዋ፡ ለእበድየ።
My soul has wrestled in her, And in my doing I was exact: I spread forth my hands to the heaven above, And bewailed my ignorances of her.
51:20
τὴν ψυχήν μου κατεύθυνα εἰς αὐτὴν καὶ ἐν καθαρισμῷ εὗρον αὐτήν καρδίαν ἐκτησάμην μετ’ αὐτῆς ἀπ’ ἀρχῆς διὰ τοῦτο οὐ μὴ ἐγκαταλειφθῶ
Lætatum est cor meum in ea : ambulavit pes meus iter rectum : a juventute mea investigabam eam.
ወአርታዕኩ፡ ነፍስየ፡ በእንቲአሃ፡ ወረከብክዋ፡ በንጹሕ፡ ወአቀምኩ፡ ልብየ፡ ምስሌሃ፡ እምቀዳሚሁ፡ ወእንበይነ፡ ዝንቱ፡ ኢገደፈኒ።
I set my soul aright to her, And in pureness I found her. I got me a heart joined with her from the beginning: Therefore shall I not be forsaken.
51:21
καὶ ἡ κοιλία μου ἐταράχθη τοῦ ἐκζητῆσαι αὐτήν διὰ τοῦτο ἐκτησάμην ἀγαθὸν κτῆμα
Inclinavi modico aurem meam, et excepi illam.
ወከርሥየኒ፡ ተሀውከት፡ ላቲ፡ ወኀሠሠታ፡ እንበይነ፡ ዝንቱ፡ አጥረይኩ፡ ሠናየ፡ ጥሪተ።
My inward part also was troubled to seek her: Therefore I have gotten a good possession.
51:22
ἔδωκεν κύριος γλῶσσάν μοι μισθόν μου καὶ ἐν αὐτῇ αἰνέσω αὐτόν
Multam inveni in meipso sapientiam, et multum profeci in ea.
ወወሀበኒ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ በልሳንየ፡ ዕሴትየ፡ ወእሴብሖ፡ ባቲ።
The Lord gave me a tongue for my reward; And I will praise him therewith.
51:23
ἐγγίσατε πρός με ἀπαίδευτοι καὶ αὐλίσθητε ἐν οἴκῳ παιδείας
Danti mihi sapientiam dabo gloriam :
ቅረቡ፡ ኀቤየ፡ አብዳን፡ ወትኅደሩ፡ ውስተ፡ ቤተ፡ ጥበብ።
Draw near to me, you⌃ unlearned, And lodge in the house of instruction.
51:24
τί ὅτι ὑστερεῖσθαι λέγετε ἐν τούτοις καὶ αἱ ψυχαὶ ὑμῶν διψῶσι σφόδρα
consiliatus sum enim ut facerem illam. Zelatus sum bonum, et non confundar.
በእፎ፡ ኀጣእክምዋ፡ ንግሩ፡ እንበይነ፡ ዝንቱ፡ ወነፍስክሙኒ፡ ጸምአት፡ ፈድፋደ።
Say, wherefore are you⌃ lacking in these things, And your souls are very thirsty?
51:25
ἤνοιξα τὸ στόμα μου καὶ ἐλάλησα κτήσασθε ἑαυτοῖς ἄνευ ἀργυρίου
Colluctata est anima mea in illa, et in faciendo eam confirmatus sum.
ወከሠትኩ፡ አፉየ፡ ወነገርኩ፡ ወአጥ[ርይዋ]፡ ለክሙ፡ እንበለ፡ ሤጥ።
I opened my mouth, and spoke, Get her for yourselves without money.
51:26
τὸν τράχηλον ὑμῶν ὑπόθετε ὑπὸ ζυγόν καὶ ἐπιδεξάσθω ἡ ψυχὴ ὑμῶν παιδείαν ἐγγύς ἐστιν εὑρεῖν αὐτήν
Manus meas extendi in altum, et insipientiam ejus luxi ;
አትሕቱ፡ ክሳደክሙ፡ ወተሰክምዋ፡ ጾራ፡ ወትትወከፍ፡ ነፍስክሙ፡ ጥበበ፡ ቅሩብ፡ ውእቱ፡ ረኪቦታ።
Put your neck under the yoke, And let your soul receive instruction: She is hard at hand to find.
51:27
ἴδετε ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς ὑμῶν ὅτι ὀλίγον ἐκοπίασα καὶ εὗρον ἐμαυτῷ πολλὴν ἀνάπαυσιν
animam meam direxi ad illam, et in agnitione inveni eam.
ናሁ፡ ርእዩ፡ በአዕይንቲክሙ፡ ከመ፡ ውኁደ፡ ጻመውኩ፡ ወብዙኀ፡ ዕረፍተ፡ ረከብኩ፡ ሊተ።
Behold with your eyes, How that I laboured but a little, And found for myself much rest.
51:28
μετάσχετε παιδείας ἐν πολλῷ ἀριθμῷ ἀργυρίου καὶ πολὺν χρυσὸν κτήσασθε ἐν αὐτῇ
Possedi cum ipsa cor ab initio : propter hoc, non derelinquar.
አብ[ድር]ዋ፡ ለጥበብ፡ እምነ፡ ብዙኀ፡ ወርቅ፡ ዘአልቦ፡ ኈልቈ፡ አጥ[ርይ]ዋ፡ ለክሙ።
Get you instruction with a great sum of silver, And gain much gold by her.
51:29
εὐφρανθείη ἡ ψυχὴ ὑμῶν ἐν τῷ ἐλέει αὐτοῦ καὶ μὴ αἰσχυνθείητε ἐν αἰνέσει αὐτοῦ
Venter meus conturbatus est quærendo illam : propterea bonam possidebo possessionem.
ወ[ትትፌሣሕ፡ ነፍስክሙ፡]፡ በምሕረቱ፡ ወኢትኅፈሩ፡ አእኵቶቶ።
May your soul rejoice in his mercy, And may you⌃ not be put to shame in praising him.
51:30
ἐργάζεσθε τὸ ἔργον ὑμῶν πρὸ καιροῦ καὶ δώσει τὸν μισθὸν ὑμῶν ἐν καιρῷ αὐτοῦ
Dedit mihi Dominus linguam mercedem meam, et in ipsa laudabo eum.
ግበሩ፡ ግብረክሙ፡ እንበለ፡ ይብጻሕ፡ ዕድሜሁ፡ ከመ፡ የሀብክሙ፡ ዕሴተክሙ፡ በጊዜሁ።
Work your work before the time comes, And in his time he will give you your reward.
