3:1

እሙን ነገር ዘይፈቅድ ይሠየም ጳጳሰ ሠናየ ግብረ ፈተወ።

This is a faithful saying: someone who seeks to be an overseer desires a good work.

「人若想要得監督的職分，就是羨慕善工。」這話是可信的。

3:2

ወባሕቱ ርቱዕ ይሠየም ጳጳሰ ዘኢያደሉ ለገጽ ዘአልቦ ምክንያት ዘአሐተ ብእሲተ አውሰበ ብእሲ ንቁህ ወጠቢብ ወመፍቀሬ ነግድ ዘአንጽሐ ርእሶ መምህር ወመግሥጽ።

The overseer therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sensible, modest, hospitable, good at teaching;

作監督的，必須無可指責，只作一個婦人的丈夫，有節制，自守，端正，樂意接待遠人，善於教導；

3:3

ዘኢያበዝኅ ሰትየ ወይን ወዘኢያፈጥን እዴሁ ለዘቢጥ ባቍዕ ዘኢይትገዐዝ ዘኢያፈቅር ንዋየ።

not a drinker, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous;

不因酒滋事，不打人，只要溫和，不爭競，不貪財；

3:4

ዘሠናይ ሥርዐተ ቤቱ ዘቦ ውሉድ ዘይትኤአዙ በኵሉ ንጽሕ።

one who rules his own house well, having children in subjection with all reverence;

好好管理自己的家，使兒女凡事端莊順服。

3:5

ወዘሰ ኢይክል ሠሪዐ ቤቱ እፎኑ ያስተሐምም ቤተ እግዚአብሔር።

(for how could someone who doesn’t know how to rule his own house take care of God’s assembly?)

人若不知道管理自己的家，焉能照管上帝的教會呢？

3:6

ወኢይኩን ዘእምሐዲስ ተክል ከመ ኢይትዐበይ ወኢይጸአል ወኢይደቅ ውስተ መሥገርተ ሰይጣን።

not a new convert, lest being puffed up he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.

初入教的不可作監督，恐怕他自高自大，就落在魔鬼所受的刑罰裏。

3:7

ወዓዲ ርቱዕ ዘሰብእ አፍኣ ይንእድዎ ከመ ኢይደቅ ውስተ ጽእለት ወመሥገርተ ሰይጣን።

Moreover he must have good testimony from those who are outside, to avoid falling into reproach and the snare of the devil.

監督也必須在教外有好名聲，恐怕被人毀謗，落在魔鬼的網羅裏。

3:8

ወዲያቆናትኒ ከማሁ ንጹሓን ወእስትርኩባን እለ አሐዱ ቃሎሙ እለ ኢያበዝኁ ሰትየ ወይን እለ ኢያፈቅሩ ረባሐ ከንቶ።

Servants, in the same way, must be reverent, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for money,

作執事的，也是如此：必須端莊，不一口兩舌，不好喝酒，不貪不義之財；

3:9

እለ የዐቅቡ ምክረ ሃይማኖቶሙ በልብ ንጹሕ።

holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.

要存清潔的良心，固守真道的奧祕。
