Οὐ μάτην τοῖσδε τοῖς λόγοις ἐχρησάμην , ἀλλὰ πεῖραν τῆς σῆς ἔχων φιλανθρωπίας·
I did not use these words in vain, but because I had experience of your loving-kindness;
我用這些話並非徒然,而是因為我曾體驗過你的仁愛;

ἤκουσας γάρ μου παρακαλοῦν τος πολλάκις
for you heard me pleading many times.
因為你多次垂聽了我的懇求。

Ὅλος ὁ Θεὸς οὖς ἐστιν , ὡς τὰ πάντα ἀκούων
God is entirely an ear, as one who hears all things.

"Fat" signifies the most intense prosperity of the enemies.] "They have set their eyes to bow down to the earth."

Every soul of the righteous, and especially of those who draw sinners from impiety to the fear of God, is, as it were, a sword sharpened against the spirits of wickedness.
每一個義人的靈魂,尤其是那些將罪人從不敬虔引向敬畏神的人的靈魂,可以說都是一把磨利、用來對付邪惡諸靈的刀劍。

Τίνες δ' ἂν εἶεν οἱ τῆς χειρὸς τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐχθροὶ ἢ οἱ ἀνθιστάμενοι τῇ εἰς τὸν Μονογενῆ αὐτοῦ πίστει , ὅστις ἐστὶ καὶ χεὶρ αὐτοῦ; Κύριε , ἀπὸ ὀλίγων ἀπὸ γῆς διαμέρισον αὐτούς
Who, then, could the enemies of God's hand be, other than those who resist faith in his Only-Begotten, who is indeed also his hand? "O Lord, divide them off from the few upon the earth."
那麼,神手的仇敵還能是誰呢?豈不正是那些抵擋對祂獨生子之信仰的人嗎?因為獨生子也就是祂的手。「耶和華啊,求你使他們與地上的少數人分開。」

Χωρισθῆναι τοὺς ἀσεβεῖς τῶν ὀλίγων εὔχεται , οἱονεί πως διαμερισθῆναι
He prays that the impious be separated from the few, as if to be divided in some manner.
他祈求不虔者與少數人分開,彷彿要被劃分開來一般。

Τίνες δὲ οἱ ὀλίγοι ἢ περὶ ὧν λέλεκται·
But who are 'the few' but those concerning whom it has been said:

Πολλοὶ μὲν κλητοὶ , ὀλίγοι δὲ ἐκλεκτοί; Καὶ τῶν κεκρυμμένων σου ἐπλήσθη ἡ γαστὴρ αὐτῶν
'Many are called, but few are chosen'? And 'their belly was filled with your hidden things.'
「被召的人多,選上的人少」;又說:「他們的肚腹因你的隱祕之物而飽足。」

Πάντων , φησὶ , τῶν τιμίων ἀπέλαυσαν·
They enjoyed, he says, all things precious;
他說,他們享盡了一切珍貴之物;

διὸ καὶ ἀπελάκτισαν οὕτως , ὡς καὶ παρανομεῖν
therefore they also kicked back in this way, so as even to transgress the law.
因此他們也如此踢跳踹逆,甚至於行起不法之事來。

Τῶν δὲ κεκρυμμένων σου ἀντὶ τοῦ , ὧν ἐν ἀποκρύφῳ τιμω ριῶν ἔχεις τὴν γνῶσιν , ἐγὼ ἀγνοῶ , τούτων ἔμπλησον τὰς γαστέρας αὐτῶν , περιφραστικῶς ἀντὶ , αὐτούς
'Of your hidden things' instead of saying, 'with those punishments of which you hold knowledge in secret—I myself do not know [what they are]—fill their bellies with these,' speaking periphrastically in place of 'them.'
「你的隱祕之物」,是指那些你在隱密中所知曉的懲罰——我卻不知道那是什麼——「求你用這些充滿他們的肚腹」,這是以婉轉之詞代指「他們」。

They were filled, he says, with every transgression, and this they passed on also to their children.
他說,他們充滿了各樣不法之事,並且將這不法也傳給了子孫。

[ Καὶ ταύτην κατέλειψαν τοῖς νηπίοις τῶν υἱῶν αὐτῶν , ἤγουν μέχρι ἐκγόνων .] Ἐγὼ δὲ ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ ὀφθήσομαι τῷ προσώ . πῳ σου
[And this they left to the infants of their sons, that is, down even to their descendants.] 'But I shall appear in righteousness before your face.'
〔他們又將這不法留給了自己兒子的嬰孩,也就是直傳到後代子孫。〕「至於我,我必在義中得見你的面。」

Οὐχ ὁμοιωθήσομαι ἐκείνοις , οὐδὲ τῶν αὐ τῶν , φησὶ , χορτασθήσομαι·
I shall not be made like those men, he says, nor shall I be sated with the same things;
他說,我必不與那些人相似,也不因同樣的東西而飽足;

ἀλλὰ τῆς σῆς δόξης ἐμ πλησθήσομαι διὰ δικαίων ἔργων
but I shall be filled with your glory through righteous works.

Περιέχει ὁ ψαλμὸς ἐπανάστασιν ἐχθρῶν καὶ ἐπίκλη σιν εἰς συμμαχίαν Θεοῦ , καὶ κάθοδον τοῦ Μονο γενοῦς καὶ ἀνάληψιν , καὶ μετὰ τὴν ἀνάληψιν τὰ κατὰ τῶν δαιμόνων πραχθέντα , καὶ τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ ἐκβολὴν , καὶ τῶν ἐθνῶν κλῆσιν
The psalm contains the uprising of enemies and the calling upon God for an alliance, the descent of the Only-begotten and his ascension, and, after the ascension, the deeds wrought against the demons, and the rejection of Israel, and the calling of the Gentiles.
這篇詩篇包含仇敵的興起、向神呼求結盟、獨生子的降臨與升天,以及升天之後對群魔所行的事,還有以色列的被棄與外邦人的蒙召。

The phrase 'out of the hand of his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul' would be referred to the intelligible enemies and their ruler.

Ἀγαπήσω σε , Κύριε , ἰσχύς μου·
'I will love you, O Lord, my strength;'

Perceiving the benefits of God—which is the greatest gift—he dedicates to him love, I mean;
他因體會到神的恩惠——這是最大的恩賜——便將愛獻給祂,我是說「愛」;

ἣν καὶ πρώτην ὁ Σωτὴρ ἐν ἐντολαῖς ἔταξεν
which the Savior also placed first among the commandments.

Αἰνῶν ἐπεκαλεσάμην τὸν Κύριον καὶ ἐκ τῶν ἐχθρῶν μου σωθήσομαι
'Praising, I called upon the Lord, and I shall be saved from my enemies.'

Here we are taught, on the one hand, to confess thanks for the good things already given;

and, on the other, again to ask for the things that are lacking.

Εἶτα διηγεῖται τὰς παν τοδαπὰς τῶν πολεμίων ἐπαναστάσεις
Then he narrates the manifold uprisings of the enemies.

Περιέσχον με ὠδῖνες θανάτου
'The pangs of death encompassed me.'

He makes mention here, he says, of no mortal war at all, but of unseen powers encircling his soul from within.
他說,這裡他所提及的並非任何屬必死之戰,而是那些從內裡環繞他靈魂的隱形勢力。

Καὶ χεί μαῤῥοι ἀνομίας ἐξετάραξάν με
'And the torrents of lawlessness troubled me.'

'The pangs of Hades encircled me;'

Χείμαῤῥοι ἀνομίας εἰσὶν οἱ παράνομοι λογισμοί·
'The torrents of lawlessness' are the lawless thoughts;
「不法的急流」就是那些不法的思念;

οὗτοι δὲ αὐτοὶ καὶ ὠδῖνες καλοῦνται χρονίζον τες ἐν ἡμῖν , καὶ πάλιν παγίδες , θανατοῦντες ἡμᾶς διὰ τῆς κατ' ἐνέργειαν ἁμαρτίας
and these same thoughts are also called 'pangs' when they linger within us, and again 'snares,' putting us to death through sin committed in act.
這些思念若長久停留在我們裡面,便被稱為「痛苦」;又被稱為「網羅」,因它們藉著實際所犯的罪使我們死亡。

Καὶ ἐσαλεύθη καὶ ἔντρομος ἐγενήθη ἡ γῆ
'And the earth was shaken, and became tremulous.'

He introduces the things that came to pass then, at the descent of the Lord;

for all who dwell on the earth were moved;
因為凡住在地上的人都被震動了;

πᾶσά τε χώρα ἐπληροῦτο τῆς περὶ αὐτοῦ φή μης
and every land was filled with the report concerning him.
各地也都充滿了關於他的傳聞。

Καὶ τὰ θεμέλια τῶν ὀρέων ἐταράχθησαν
'And the foundations of the mountains were troubled.'
「群山的根基也震動了。」

Ὄρη δυνάμεις εἰσὶ πονηραὶ αἱ ἐπαιρόμεναι κατὰ τῆς δόξης τοῦ Θεοῦ
'Mountains' are the evil powers that lift themselves up against the glory of God.
「群山」指的是那些高舉自己、抵擋神榮耀的邪惡勢力。

Θεμέλια δὲ αὐτῶν τοὺς ἐν βάθει λο γισμούς φησιν
And by 'their foundations' he means the thoughts that lie deep within them.

Καὶ ἐσαλεύθησαν , ὅτι ὠργίσθη αὐτοῖς ὁ Θεός
'And they were shaken, because God was angered against them.'

Ἀνέβη καπνὸς ἐν ὀργῇ αὐτοῦ
'Smoke went up in his wrath.'

Ὀργισθεὶς , φησὶ , κατέσβεσεν αὐτῶν τὸ πῦρ δι' οὗ πάλαι τοὺς ἀνθρώ πους κατέφλεγον
Being angered, he says, he quenched their fire, by which of old they used to burn up men.
他說,神發怒之後,就撲滅了他們的火——那是他們往昔用來焚燒世人的火。

Καὶ τούτου σύμβολον τὸν καπνὸν τίθησι
And he sets forth the smoke as a symbol of this.
而他以煙作為此事的表徵。

Καὶ πῦρ ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ καταφλε γήσεται
'And fire shall blaze forth from his face.'
「火要從他面前燃燒起來。」

For these things the Son of God works invisibly against the opposing powers, quenching their fire with another fire that is better and more powerful.
因為神的兒子正是如此,隱而不顯地對抗那些敵對的勢力,用另一種更美善、更有能力的火,撲滅了他們的火。

[ Ὁρῶντες γὰρ οἱ δαίμονες τὸν Κύριον , ἐν τῇ παρουσίᾳ αὐτοῦ ἐκαίοντο ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ .] Ἄνθρακες ἀνήφθησαν ἀπ' αὐτοῦ
[For the demons, seeing the Lord at his coming, were burned from before his face.] 'Coals were kindled from him.'
〔因為群魔看見主在他降臨之時,便從他面前被燒灼。〕「炭火從他而出。」

Οἱ κατὰ μετουσίαν τοῦ θείου πυρὸς φωτισθέντες
Those who were illumined through participation in the divine fire.
這是指那些因分享神聖之火而蒙光照的人。

Καὶ ἔκλινεν οὐρανοὺς , καὶ κατέβη
'And he bowed the heavens, and came down.'

ἵνα μὴ δι' ὧν εἶπεν εἰς σωματικὰς ἑλκυσθῶμεν ἐννοίας
so that we might not, through what he has said, be drawn into corporeal notions.

By these words he signifies his ascension;

by 'cherubim' and 'wings of the winds' he means the cloud [which received him up;

or the swiftness of his manifestation, the speed of his coming and his help], concerning which it is written in the Acts:

'And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight.'
「說了這話,他們正看的時候,他被取上升,有一朵雲彩把他接去,便看不見他了。」

Καὶ ἔθετο σκότος ἀποκρυφὴν αὐτοῦ
'And he made darkness his hiding place.'

Τὴν ἀφανῆ καὶ λανθάνουσαν τοῦ Σωτῆρος σὺν ἀνθρώποις δια τριβήν
[This signifies] the unseen and hidden sojourn of the Savior among men.

Κύκλῳ αὐτοῦ ἡ σκηνὴ αὐτοῦ
'His tabernacle was round about him.'

By 'his tabernacle' he signifies the holy Church, in which he has promised to make his dwelling.

'Dark water in the clouds of the air.'

Τοῦτό φησι διὰ τὸ ἀμαυρῶς τοὺς περὶ αὐτοῦ λόγους ἐν τοῖς προφήταις κεῖσθαι , οἵτινες καὶ νεφέλαι προσηγορεύθησαν

οὐ γάρ ἐστι Θεὸς ἕτερος , ἵνα ὁ μὲν τούτῳ , ὁ δὲ ἐκείνῳ παράσχῃ τὴν αἴτησιν
for there is no other God, such that one god would grant this petitioner's request, and another that petitioner's.
因為並沒有另一位神,使得這一位應允這人的祈求,那一位應允那人的祈求。

Ἴσως δὲ καὶ ἐκ παραλλήλου τοὺς δύο προηνέγκατο στίχους·
But perhaps he also set forth the two verses in parallel;

'Thus,' he says, 'the true God, as I had trusted, girded me with power for victory, and set for me an unharmed path in the things to be done.' 'The God who girds me with power'

'Until you are clothed with power from on high'

For the saints are destroyers of venomous passions;

ἔλαβον γὰρ δύναμιν κατὰ τῶν νοητῶν ὄφεων , καὶ διὰ τοῦτο ἐλά φοις παρεικάζονται·
for they received power against the intelligible serpents, and for this reason they are likened to deer;
因為他們領受了能力,能勝過那些屬靈意義上的毒蛇,因此他們被比作鹿;

Having made the powers of the soul manly, after the manner of a bronze bow.

Teaching that he will be successful in battle, and setting his arms as a bow, making them, as it were, bronze in strength.
教導人在戰鬥中必能得勝,並使膀臂如弓一般張開,使之在力量上彷彿成為銅製。

Ἢ λέγει τὰς δυνάμεις τῆς ψυχῆς ἀνδρικὰς δίκην τόξου χαλκοῦ κατεσκεύασεν
Or he means: he made the powers of the soul manly, after the manner of a bronze bow.

Ὁ χαλκὸς σύμβολόν ἐστι πρακτικῆς·
Bronze is a symbol of the practical life.
銅是實行(德行)的象徵。

Ὑπερ ήσπισάς μου , φησὶ , διὰ τοῦ σωτηρίου σου
'You have shielded me,' he says, 'through your salvation.'
他說:「你藉著你的救恩護庇了我。」

Τοῦτο δέ ἐστιν ἡ τῆς οἰκονομίας ἐπιδημία . [ Καὶ ἡ παιδεία σου ἀνώρθωσέ με
And this is the coming of the dispensation. [And your discipline set me upright.
這就是(救恩)經綸的降臨。〔又你的管教扶正了我。

Παιδείαν τὴν εὐαγγελικὴν λέγει·
He means the discipline that belongs to the gospel;
這裡所說的管教,是指福音的管教;

ἢ παιδείαν τὴν ἐκ νόμου φησὶ παίδευσιν·
or he means the training that comes from the law;
或指出於律法的訓練;

οἷον διὰ πάντων με , φησὶν , εὐεργετῶν δέδωκας καὶ νόμους , δι' ὧν ἐπαιδευόμην τὸ δέον
As if to say: 'While benefiting me in all things, you also gave laws, through which I was trained in what was needful.'
彷彿是說:「你在萬事上施恩於我,也賜下律法,使我藉此受訓明白當行之事。」

Μανθάνων γὰρ ἐκεῖθεν ὡς οὐ δεῖ ἀδικεῖν , ἀπειχό μην τούτου
For learning from it that one ought not to do wrong, I abstained from doing so.
因為我從中學到不可行不義,就因此自我克制。

Ἀλλ' ἵνα μὴ βλάπτωμαι πάλιν ἐκ τῆς τοιαύτης ἐπιεικείας , ἱκανὴν περιέχῃς βοήθειαν , πλα τυσμὸν παρεχόμενος , ἢ παιδείαν τὴν παιδευτικὴν λέγει διδασκαλίαν , κατὰ τό·
But so that I might not again be harmed by such leniency, you supply sufficient help, granting me room to move; or he calls 'discipline' the instructive teaching, according to the saying:
但為使我不致因這樣的寬容而再受損害,你賜下足夠的幫助,使我得寬闊之地;又或者這裡的「管教」是指教導性的訓誨,正如經上所說:

or the laborious training, according to the saying:

'Do not despise the discipline of the Lord.'] And your right hand upheld me.

And your discipline set me upright completely.

That is, evidently, the teaching of the gospel.

And this very discipline of yours will teach me.

You will establish me as head of the nations.

Therefore the prophecy is fulfilled through him who was born of him according to the flesh.

A people whom I did not know has served me.

For turning away from the disobedient Jews, he asks for the nations as his inheritance.] This does not signify ignorance, for as God he knows all things;
因祂轉離不信的猶太人,便求萬邦作祂的產業。〕這並非表示無知,因為祂身為神,無所不知;

ἀλλ' ὅτι οἱ κατὰ καιροὺς τὴν οἰκειότητα τὴν πρὸς ἐμὲ μὴ λαχόντες ἀλλότριοι ἂν εἶεν καὶ ξένοι καὶ πόῤῥω τῆς ἐμῆς ἀπέχοντες οἰκειότητος
but that those who at various times did not obtain kinship with me would be foreign and strangers, and far removed from what is properly mine.

Alien sons have dealt falsely with me.

Alien sons have grown old.

And let the God of my salvation be exalted.

'Even though he humbled himself,' he says, 'taking the form of a servant, yet he is exalted.'

Since you have accomplished such and such things, says the prophet, I will confess you through them, when you yourself, O Lord, call the nations, while they sing the hymns which I have composed.

As those from the nations, already instructed by the aforementioned elements that the Maker is one, are then taught also the evangelical law, so that the souls of all the nations may be converted to the truth.
那些出於外邦的人,既已藉前面所提的種種元素受了教導,知道創造者只有一位,此後便進一步蒙教導以福音的律法,使萬邦眾人的心靈都歸向真理。

And since this fear is eternal, in whomever it exists, it also makes them eternal.
這敬畏既是永恆的,凡它所在之處,也使那人成為永恆的。

In keeping them there is great reward.

concerning priests and kings, or on account of the Lord's economy and resurrection according to the flesh;
就是關乎祭司與君王的事,或是因主按肉身而有的經綸與復活;

ἢ καὶ ὅτι σωζομένων ἡμῶν , αὐτὸς λέγει σώζεσθαι , οὗ καὶ μελήσει μὲν σώματος ὄντες ἑνός
or also because, as we are being saved, he himself says that he is saved—since, being of one body, he will indeed have care for it.
或者也因為,當我們得救之時,他自己也說自己得救,因為我們同屬一個身體,他必看顧顧念這身體。

For at present we know Christ to be saved, in that from now on we receive the pledge of salvation.

with the mighty acts of the salvation of his right hand.

For here he signifies the deeds, in that he extends the powers of his right hand to those who draw near.

Just as, in saving Israel from the sensible Egyptians, he cast Pharaoh's chariots and his host into the sea, so too, in saving the race of all men from the intelligible Egyptians, he shattered their chariots.
正如他為拯救以色列脫離那有形可見的埃及人,把法老的戰車與軍兵拋進海中;照樣,他為拯救全人類脫離那屬靈意義上的埃及人,也打碎了他們的戰車。
