Latin original · 15 verses · some words can be tapped for a gloss

1:1
Domine omnipotens, Deus patrum nostrorum, Abraham, et Isaac, et Jacob, et seminis eorum justi,
O Lord Almighty, God of our fathers, of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, and of their righteous seed;
主-全能者啊,我們列祖的神,就是亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各,並他們義裔的神;
1:2
who hast made heaven and earth with all their array;
你造了天地,並其中萬象;
1:3
who hast bound the sea by the word of thy command, who hast shut up the deep and sealed it with thy fearful and glorious name;
你用你命令的話約束了海,封閉了深淵,又用你那可畏可頌的名印了它;
1:4
quem omnia pavent, et tremunt a vultu virtutis tuæ, quia importabilis est magnificentia gloriæ tuæ,
before whom all things shrink and tremble at the presence of thy power, for the majesty of thy glory cannot be borne;
1:5
et insustentabilis ira comminationis tuæ super peccatores :
and the wrath of thy threatening against sinners is not to be endured;
你向罪人發出威嚇的忿怒,是無人能擋的;
1:6
immensa vero et investigabilis misericordia promissionis tuæ :
yet the mercy of thy promise is measureless and unsearchable;
然而你應許的憐憫卻是無量無邊、不可測度的;
1:7
quoniam tu es Dominus, altissimus, benignus, longanimis, et multum misericors, et pœnitens super malitias hominum. Tu Domine, secundum multitudinem bonitatis tuæ promisisti pœnitentiam, et remissionem iis, qui peccaverunt tibi, et multitudinem miserationum tuarum decrevisti pœnitentiam peccatoribus, in salutem.
for thou art the Lord most high, kind, long-suffering, and exceedingly merciful, and thou repentest over the evils of men. Thou, O Lord, according to the multitude of thy goodness hast promised repentance and forgiveness to those who have sinned against thee, and in the abundance of thy compassions hast appointed repentance for sinners, that they may be saved.
Thou therefore, O Lord, God of the righteous, hast not appointed repentance for the righteous, for Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, who sinned not against thee; but thou hast appointed repentance for me, a sinner;
因此,主,義人的神啊,你沒有為那些沒有得罪你的義人,就是亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各,定下悔改;你卻為我這罪人定下了悔改;
1:9
for I have sinned above the number of the sand of the sea. My iniquities are multiplied, O Lord, my iniquities are multiplied, and I am not worthy to look up and behold the height of heaven, because of the multitude of my iniquities.
I am bowed down with many bonds of iron, so that I cannot lift up my head, and there is no breathing-space for me; for I have provoked thy wrath and done evil before thee: I did not thy will, and kept not thy commandments; I set up abominations and multiplied offences.
1:11
Et nunc flecto genu cordis mei, precans a te bonitatem.
And now I bow the knee of my heart, beseeching thee for thy kindness.
1:12
Peccavi Domine, peccavi, et iniquitates meas agnosco.
I have sinned, O Lord, I have sinned, and I acknowledge my iniquities.
1:13
Quare peto rogans te, remitte mihi Domine, remitte mihi, et ne simul perdas me cum iniquitatibus meis, neque in æternum, iratus, reserves mala mihi, neque damnes me in infima terræ loca :
Wherefore I beseech thee, forgive me, O Lord, forgive me; destroy me not together with my iniquities, neither keep evils in store for me for ever in thine anger, nor condemn me to the lowest parts of the earth.
1:14
quia tu es Deus, Deus, inquam pœnitentium : et in me ostendes omnem bonitatem tuam, quia indignum salvabis me secundum magnam misericordiam tuam,
For thou art God, even the God of them that repent; and in me thou wilt show forth all thy goodness, for thou wilt save me who am unworthy, according to thy great mercy.
1:15
et laudabo te semper omnibus diebus vitæ meæ : quoniam te laudat omnis virtus cælorum, et tibi est gloria in sæcula sæculorum. Amen.
And I will praise thee continually all the days of my life; for all the host of heaven doth praise thee, and thine is the glory unto the ages of the ages. Amen.
