My enemies spoke evil against me.
1:2038⧉ ⤴︎
Up to the present verse, one must suppose that the prophet has spoken concerning the whole catholic Church, as being fitting rather to each of the earnest believers than to the Man of the Lord.
1:2039⧉ ⤴︎
For it is not, as some have supposed, that he speaks the things said concerning him alone:
1:2040⧉ ⤴︎
for he did not say it with the article:
1:2041⧉ ⤴︎
Blessed is he who considers the poor and needy.
1:2042⧉ ⤴︎
But this, being said without the article, signifies a certain someone, and one who is particular.
1:2043⧉ ⤴︎
After these things, he passes from the other members of the Church to that Lord himself, namely Christ, who indeed also says:
1:2044⧉ ⤴︎
'My enemies,' and what follows.
1:2045⧉ ⤴︎
When will he die, and his name perish? For even to be seen is burdensome to us.
1:2046⧉ ⤴︎
And if he came in to see me, he spoke in vain.
1:2047⧉ ⤴︎
He says these things concerning Judas.
1:2048⧉ ⤴︎
What he means is something like this:
1:2049⧉ ⤴︎
Having had access to me, because he was numbered among the disciples, he was double-tongued and meddlesome:
1:2050⧉ ⤴︎
for he spoke in vain, that is, he was not truthful.
1:2051⧉ ⤴︎
His heart gathered iniquity for itself.
1:2052⧉ ⤴︎
He had determined, he says, to hand me over to those who envied me.
1:2053⧉ ⤴︎
He went out, and spoke about the same thing:
1:2054⧉ ⤴︎
namely, 'What are you willing to give me, and I will hand him over to you?' All my enemies whispered against me.
1:2055⧉ ⤴︎
The mockeries of the Jews against him signify the conspiracies of the Jews against him, and the hidden schemes signify the chief priests who agreed with Judas — he speaking of those who whispered, arranging with Judas the terms concerning Jesus:
1:2056⧉ ⤴︎
for they did not dare to establish these things openly, being wary of the crowd.
1:2057⧉ ⤴︎
They laid a lawless word against me.
1:2058⧉ ⤴︎
Namely, 'Away with him, away with him, crucify him!'
1:2059⧉ ⤴︎
That this was lawless is clear from what has been said:
1:2060⧉ ⤴︎
You shall not kill the innocent and righteous.
1:2061⧉ ⤴︎
How do you suppose to clothe Life with death? For to suffer is but sleep to me.
1:2062⧉ ⤴︎
And necessarily he says that resurrection follows upon repose.
1:2063⧉ ⤴︎
And repose is death:
1:2064⧉ ⤴︎
resurrection also will necessarily follow death.
1:2065⧉ ⤴︎
For even the man of my peace, in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.
1:2066⧉ ⤴︎
Mockery, plot, deceit.
1:2067⧉ ⤴︎
He calls Judas 'the man of peace,' because he seemed to be numbered among those well-disposed toward him and among his friends:
1:2068⧉ ⤴︎
at least insofar as he had come to be a disciple.
1:2069⧉ ⤴︎
But you, O Lord, have mercy on me, and raise me up, and I will repay them.
1:2070⧉ ⤴︎
He makes this statement in a rather human manner, on account of the self-emptying, toward his own Father, although he himself is the mercy of God the Father, and the resurrection and the life.
1:2071⧉ ⤴︎
By this I know that you have been well pleased with me.
1:2072⧉ ⤴︎
Again he speaks as a man, so that he may commend himself to God the Father.
1:2073⧉ ⤴︎
That my enemy shall not rejoice over me.
1:2074⧉ ⤴︎
If Christ says these things from the person of his humanity, the enemy would be understood as the one who fashioned death for us:
1:2075⧉ ⤴︎
but if as from Christ himself, he means the rulers of the Jews.
1:2076⧉ ⤴︎
For that they were grieved is clear from their having slandered his resurrection.
1:2077⧉ ⤴︎
But you have upheld me because of my guilelessness.
1:2078⧉ ⤴︎
He says that the support of all has itself obtained support:
1:2079⧉ ⤴︎
not that he himself needed this, insofar as he is understood to be God, but having become man, he makes these statements on behalf of men.
1:2080⧉ ⤴︎
Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting.
1:2081⧉ ⤴︎
And now he also seals the present ode with thanksgiving.
1:2082⧉ ⤴︎
'From the present,' he says, 'unto the future':
1:2083⧉ ⤴︎
therefore the blessing from us toward God begins indeed from the present, but is perfected in the future:
1:2084⧉ ⤴︎
for we know in part, and we prophesy in part, wherefore also we bless in part:
1:2085⧉ ⤴︎
But when the perfect comes, says Paul, that which is in part will be done away.
1:2086⧉ ⤴︎
For by the advance toward the greater, that which is in part ceases.
1:2087⧉ ⤴︎
for there they are not permitted to bless God in that limited way.
1:2088⧉ ⤴︎
One must know that some, having divided this psalmic prophecy into five books, reckon the first to extend up to this psalm:
1:2089⧉ ⤴︎
since toward its end it possesses, as it were a crown, the blessing directed to God.
1:2090⧉ ⤴︎
Whence they likewise divide also the remaining four portions.
1:2091⧉ ⤴︎
Unto the end: for understanding, of the sons of Korah.
1:2092⧉ ⤴︎
And they introduce the very person of Israel itself, confessing to Christ through the change of mind which they will make at the consummation of the ages.
1:2093⧉ ⤴︎
As the hart longs for the springs of water, so my soul longs for you, O God.
1:2094⧉ ⤴︎
The rational harts, since the noetic spring had ceased flowing to them because of their transgressions, wept night and day for their own destruction.
1:2095⧉ ⤴︎
When shall I come and appear before the face of God? The face of God is the Word.
1:2096⧉ ⤴︎
He signifies that they greatly desire to arrive at the time in which their own calling will also take place:
1:2097⧉ ⤴︎
so that they themselves also might become manifest before the face of God and the Father.
1:2098⧉ ⤴︎
And this is the same as that of the Son.
1:2099⧉ ⤴︎
With a voice of exultation and thanksgiving, the sound of one keeping festival.
1:2100⧉ ⤴︎
He announces good news beforehand to himself, as one who will in due time obtain the salvation and life that come through Christ, and will dwell together with the other saints in the divine courts.
1:2101⧉ ⤴︎
"Why art thou sorrowful, O my soul, and why dost thou trouble me?" He rebukes his sorrows, fortifying himself with hope in Christ.
1:2102⧉ ⤴︎
"Since," he says, "my soul was troubled when I called to mind for myself your wonders, both those you showed us at the Jordan, and those at Mount Hermon, I will console myself."
1:2103⧉ ⤴︎
"Having come," he says, "to the Jordan"—that is, having been counted worthy of holy baptism—"I will then remember you through the word of confession."
1:2104⧉ ⤴︎
And I will also remember Hermoniim.
1:2105⧉ ⤴︎
Now Hermoniim is interpreted "way of the lamp," since holy baptism opens for them the way of illumination.
1:2106⧉ ⤴︎
"Deep calleth unto deep at the voice of your cataracts."
1:2107⧉ ⤴︎

For when the foreigners made war upon them, and a sacrifice was offered on their behalf by Samuel, so great a hail was brought down upon the enemy that almost all the foes fell, though not a single man fought against them.
1:2109⧉ ⤴︎
He therefore calls the onrush of the hail "deep running upon deep."
1:2110⧉ ⤴︎
And "calleth unto" is used in place of "is charged against."
1:2111⧉ ⤴︎
And the "voices of the cataracts" may be understood as the onrushes of the hail.
1:2112⧉ ⤴︎
But elsewhere the "cataracts" are the prophets of God.

罪惡的深淵向神憐憫的深淵呼求,好使罪、罪的始作俑者以及敗壞,都被沖毀傾覆;

因為拉伯沙基圍困耶路撒冷,揚言連神也無力將他們從亞述人手中救出來;
