4:1 Ἀγαπητοί, μὴ παντὶ πνεύματι πιστεύετε, ἀλλὰ δοκιμάζετε τὰ πνεύματα εἰ ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐστιν, ὅτι πολλοὶ ψευδοπροφῆται ἐξεληλύθασιν εἰς τὸν κόσμον.親愛的弟兄啊，一切的靈，你們不可都信，總要試驗那些靈是出於上帝的不是，因為世上有許多假先知已經出來了。Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
4:2 ἐν τούτῳ γινώσκετε τὸ πνεῦμα τοῦ θεοῦ· πᾶν πνεῦμα ὃ ὁμολογεῖ Ἰησοῦν Χριστὸν ἐν σαρκὶ ἐληλυθότα ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐστιν,凡靈認耶穌基督是成了肉身來的，就是出於上帝的；從此你們可以認出上帝的靈來。By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit who confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God,
4:3 καὶ πᾶν πνεῦμα ὃ μὴ ὁμολογεῖ τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ οὐκ ἔστιν· καὶ τοῦτό ἐστιν τὸ τοῦ ἀντιχρίστου, ὃ ἀκηκόατε ὅτι ἔρχεται, καὶ νῦν ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ ἐστὶν ἤδη.凡靈不認耶穌，就不是出於上帝，這是那敵基督者的靈。你們從前聽見他要來，現在已經在世上了。and every spirit who doesn’t confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God; and this is the spirit of the Antichrist, of whom you have heard that it comes. Now it is in the world already.
4:4 Ὑμεῖς ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐστε, τεκνία, καὶ νενικήκατε αὐτούς, ὅτι μείζων ἐστὶν ὁ ἐν ὑμῖν ἢ ὁ ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ.小子們哪，你們是屬上帝的，並且勝了他們；因為那在你們裏面的，比那在世界上的更大。You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world.
4:5 αὐτοὶ ἐκ τοῦ κόσμου εἰσίν· διὰ τοῦτο ἐκ τοῦ κόσμου λαλοῦσιν καὶ ὁ κόσμος αὐτῶν ἀκούει.他們是屬世界的，所以論世界的事，世人也聽從他們。They are of the world. Therefore they speak of the world, and the world hears them.
4:6 ἡμεῖς ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐσμεν· ὁ γινώσκων τὸν θεὸν ἀκούει ἡμῶν, ὃς οὐκ ἔστιν ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ οὐκ ἀκούει ἡμῶν. ἐκ τούτου γινώσκομεν τὸ πνεῦμα τῆς ἀληθείας καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα τῆς πλάνης.我們是屬上帝的，認識上帝的就聽從我們；不屬上帝的就不聽從我們。從此我們可以認出真理的靈和謬妄的靈來。We are of God. He who knows God listens to us. He who is not of God doesn’t listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
4:7 Ἀγαπητοί, ἀγαπῶμεν ἀλλήλους, ὅτι ἡ ἀγάπη ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐστιν, καὶ πᾶς ὁ ἀγαπῶν ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ γεγέννηται καὶ γινώσκει τὸν θεόν.親愛的弟兄啊，我們應當彼此相愛，因為愛是從上帝來的。凡有愛心的，都是由上帝而生，並且認識上帝。Beloved, let’s love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
4:8 ὁ μὴ ἀγαπῶν οὐκ ἔγνω τὸν θεόν, ὅτι ὁ θεὸς ἀγάπη ἐστίν.沒有愛心的，就不認識上帝，因為上帝就是愛。He who doesn’t love doesn’t know God, for God is love.
4:9 ἐν τούτῳ ἐφανερώθη ἡ ἀγάπη τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν ἡμῖν, ὅτι τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ τὸν μονογενῆ ἀπέσταλκεν ὁ θεὸς εἰς τὸν κόσμον ἵνα ζήσωμεν δι’ αὐτοῦ.上帝差他獨生子到世間來，使我們藉着他得生，上帝愛我們的心在此就顯明了。By this God’s love was revealed in us, that God has sent his only born Son into the world that we might live through him.
4:10 ἐν τούτῳ ἐστὶν ἡ ἀγάπη, οὐχ ὅτι ἡμεῖς ἠγαπήσαμεν τὸν θεόν, ἀλλ’ ὅτι αὐτὸς ἠγάπησεν ἡμᾶς καὶ ἀπέστειλεν τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ ἱλασμὸν περὶ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν ἡμῶν.不是我們愛上帝，乃是上帝愛我們，差他的兒子為我們的罪作了挽回祭，這就是愛了。In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins.
4:11 Ἀγαπητοί, εἰ οὕτως ὁ θεὸς ἠγάπησεν ἡμᾶς, καὶ ἡμεῖς ὀφείλομεν ἀλλήλους ἀγαπᾶν.親愛的弟兄啊，上帝既是這樣愛我們，我們也當彼此相愛。Beloved, if God loved us in this way, we also ought to love one another.
4:12 θεὸν οὐδεὶς πώποτε τεθέαται· ἐὰν ἀγαπῶμεν ἀλλήλους, ὁ θεὸς ἐν ἡμῖν μένει καὶ ἡ ἀγάπη αὐτοῦ τετελειωμένη ἐν ἡμῖν ἐστιν.從來沒有人見過上帝，我們若彼此相愛，上帝就住在我們裏面，愛他的心在我們裏面得以完全了。No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God remains in us, and his love has been perfected in us.
4:13 ἐν τούτῳ γινώσκομεν ὅτι ἐν αὐτῷ μένομεν καὶ αὐτὸς ἐν ἡμῖν, ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ πνεύματος αὐτοῦ δέδωκεν ἡμῖν.上帝將他的靈賜給我們，從此就知道我們是住在他裏面，他也住在我們裏面。By this we know that we remain in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.
4:14 καὶ ἡμεῖς τεθεάμεθα καὶ μαρτυροῦμεν ὅτι ὁ πατὴρ ἀπέσταλκεν τὸν υἱὸν σωτῆρα τοῦ κόσμου.父差子作世人的救主；這是我們所看見且作見證的。We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as the Savior of the world.
4:15 ὃς ἂν ὁμολογήσῃ ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ, ὁ θεὸς ἐν αὐτῷ μένει καὶ αὐτὸς ἐν τῷ θεῷ.凡認耶穌為上帝兒子的，上帝就住在他裏面，他也住在上帝裏面。Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him, and he in God.
4:16 καὶ ἡμεῖς ἐγνώκαμεν καὶ πεπιστεύκαμεν τὴν ἀγάπην ἣν ἔχει ὁ θεὸς ἐν ἡμῖν. ὁ θεὸς ἀγάπη ἐστίν, καὶ ὁ μένων ἐν τῇ ἀγάπῃ ἐν τῷ θεῷ μένει καὶ ὁ θεὸς ἐν αὐτῷ μένει.上帝愛我們的心，我們也知道也信。 上帝就是愛；住在愛裏面的，就是住在上帝裏面，上帝也住在他裏面。We know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and he who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him.
4:17 Ἐν τούτῳ τετελείωται ἡ ἀγάπη μεθ’ ἡμῶν, ἵνα παρρησίαν ἔχωμεν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῆς κρίσεως, ὅτι καθὼς ἐκεῖνός ἐστιν καὶ ἡμεῖς ἐσμεν ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ τούτῳ.這樣，愛在我們裏面得以完全，我們就可以在審判的日子坦然無懼。因為他如何，我們在這世上也如何。In this, love has been made perfect among us, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, because as he is, even so we are in this world.
4:18 φόβος οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν τῇ ἀγάπῃ, ἀλλ’ ἡ τελεία ἀγάπη ἔξω βάλλει τὸν φόβον, ὅτι ὁ φόβος κόλασιν ἔχει, ὁ δὲ φοβούμενος οὐ τετελείωται ἐν τῇ ἀγάπῃ.愛裏沒有懼怕；愛既完全，就把懼怕除去。因為懼怕裏含着刑罰，懼怕的人在愛裏未得完全。There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love.
4:19 ἡμεῖς ἀγαπῶμεν, ὅτι αὐτὸς πρῶτος ἠγάπησεν ἡμᾶς.我們愛，因為上帝先愛我們。We love him, because he first loved us.
4:20 ἐάν τις εἴπῃ ὅτι ἀγαπῶ τὸν θεόν, καὶ τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ μισῇ, Ψεύστης ἐστίν· ὁ γὰρ μὴ ἀγαπῶν τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ ὃν ἑώρακεν, τὸν θεὸν ὃν οὐχ ἑώρακεν οὐ δύναται ἀγαπᾶν.人若說「我愛上帝」，卻恨他的弟兄，就是說謊話的；不愛他所看見的弟兄，就不能愛沒有看見的上帝 。If a man says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who doesn’t love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
4:21 καὶ ταύτην τὴν ἐντολὴν ἔχομεν ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ, ἵνα ὁ ἀγαπῶν τὸν θεὸν ἀγαπᾷ καὶ τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ.愛上帝的，也當愛弟兄，這是我們從上帝所受的命令。This commandment we have from him, that he who loves God should also love his brother.
