5:1
וּפְלִשְׁתִּים֙ לָֽקְח֔וּ אֵ֖ת אֲר֣וֹן הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וַיְבִאֻ֛הוּ מֵאֶ֥בֶן הָעֵ֖זֶר אַשְׁדּֽוֹדָה׃
καὶ ἀλλόφυλοι ἔλαβον τὴν κιβωτὸν τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ εἰσήνεγκαν αὐτὴν ἐξ Αβεννεζερ εἰς Ἄζωτον
Philisthiim autem tulerunt arcam Dei, et asportaverunt eam a lapide Adjutorii in Azotum.
ወነሥእዋ፡ ኢሎፍሊ፡ ለታቦተ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ እምአቤኔዜር፡ ወወሰድዋ፡ ውስተ፡ አዛጦን።
Now the Philistines had taken God’s ark, and they brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.
5:2
וַיִּקְח֤וּ פְלִשְׁתִּים֙ אֶת־אֲר֣וֹן הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים וַיָּבִ֥אוּ אֹת֖וֹ בֵּ֣ית דָּג֑וֹן וַיַּצִּ֥יגוּ אֹת֖וֹ אֵ֥צֶל דָּגֽוֹן׃
καὶ ἔλαβον ἀλλόφυλοι τὴν κιβωτὸν κυρίου καὶ εἰσήνεγκαν αὐτὴν εἰς οἶκον Δαγων καὶ παρέστησαν αὐτὴν παρὰ Δαγων
Tuleruntque Philisthiim arcam Dei, et intulerunt eam in templum Dagon, et statuerunt eam juxta Dagon.
ወአብእዋ፡ ቤተ፡ ዳጎን፡ ወአቀምዋ፡ ኀበ፡ ዳጎን።
The Philistines took God’s ark, and brought it into the house of Dagon and set it by Dagon.
5:3
וַיַּשְׁכִּ֤מוּ אַשְׁדּוֹדִים֙ מִֽמׇּחֳרָ֔ת וְהִנֵּ֣ה דָג֗וֹן נֹפֵ֤ל לְפָנָיו֙ אַ֔רְצָה לִפְנֵ֖י אֲר֣וֹן יְהֹוָ֑ה וַיִּקְחוּ֙ אֶת־דָּג֔וֹן וַיָּשִׁ֥בוּ אֹת֖וֹ לִמְקוֹמֽוֹ׃
καὶ ὤρθρισαν οἱ Ἀζώτιοι καὶ εἰσῆλθον εἰς οἶκον Δαγων καὶ εἶδον καὶ ἰδοὺ Δαγων πεπτωκὼς ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἐνώπιον κιβωτοῦ τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ἤγειραν τὸν Δαγων καὶ κατέστησαν εἰς τὸν τόπον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐβαρύνθη χεὶρ κυρίου ἐπὶ τοὺς Ἀζωτίους καὶ ἐβασάνισεν αὐτοὺς καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὰς ἕδρας αὐτῶν τὴν Ἄζωτον καὶ τὰ ὅρια αὐτῆς
Cumque surrexissent diluculo Azotii altera die, ecce Dagon jacebat pronus in terra ante arcam Domini : et tulerunt Dagon, et restituerunt eum in locum suum.
ወጌሡ፡ ሰብአ፡ አዛጦን፡ ወቦኡ፡ ቤተ፡ ዳጎን፡ ወረከብዎ፡ ለዳጎን፡ ውዱቀ፡ በገጹ፡ ውስተ፡ ምድር፡ ቅድመ፡ ታቦተ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወአንሥእዎ፡ ለዳጎን፡ ወአቀምዎ፡ ውስተ፡ መካኑ።
When the people of Ashdod arose early on the next day, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before Yahweh’s ark. They took Dagon and set him in his place again.
5:4
וַיַּשְׁכִּ֣מוּ בַבֹּ֘קֶר֮ מִֽמׇּחֳרָת֒ וְהִנֵּ֣ה דָג֗וֹן נֹפֵ֤ל לְפָנָיו֙ אַ֔רְצָה לִפְנֵ֖י אֲר֣וֹן יְהֹוָ֑ה וְרֹ֨אשׁ דָּג֜וֹן וּשְׁתֵּ֣י׀ כַּפּ֣וֹת יָדָ֗יו כְּרֻתוֹת֙ אֶל־הַמִּפְתָּ֔ן רַ֥ק דָּג֖וֹן נִשְׁאַ֥ר עָלָֽיו׃
καὶ ἐγένετο ὅτε ὤρθρισαν τὸ πρωί καὶ ἰδοὺ Δαγων πεπτωκὼς ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἐνώπιον κιβωτοῦ διαθήκης κυρίου καὶ ἡ κεφαλὴ Δαγων καὶ ἀμφότερα τὰ ἴχνη χειρῶν αὐτοῦ ἀφῃρημένα ἐπὶ τὰ ἐμπρόσθια αμαφεθ ἕκαστον καὶ ἀμφότεροι οἱ καρποὶ τῶν χειρῶν αὐτοῦ πεπτωκότες ἐπὶ τὸ πρόθυρον πλὴν ἡ ῥάχις Δαγων ὑπελείφθη
Rursumque mane die altera consurgentes, invenerunt Dagon jacentem super faciem suam in terra coram arca Domini : caput autem Dagon, et duae palmae manuum ejus abscissae erant super limen :
ወእምዝ፡ ሶበ፡ ጌሡ፡ በጽባሕ፡ ወናሁ፡ ዳጎን፡ ውዱቅ፡ በገጹ፡ ቅድመ፡ ታቦተ፡ ሕጉ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር፡ ወርእሱ፡ ለዳጎን፡ ወክልኤሆን፡ እደዊሁ፡ ምቱር፡ ወግዱፍ፡ ቅድመ፡ አሜፌቅ፡ ዘዘዚአሆን፡ ወክልኤሆን፡ እራኃተ፡ እደዊሁ፡ ውዱቃት፡ ኀበ፡ መድረክ፡ ወአልቦ፡ ዘተርፈ፡ እምኔሁ፡ ለዳጎን፡ እንበለ፡ ማእከሉ።
When they arose early on the following morning, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before Yahweh’s ark; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off on the threshold. Only Dagon’s torso was intact.
5:5
עַל־כֵּ֡ן לֹֽא־יִדְרְכוּ֩ כֹהֲנֵ֨י דָג֜וֹן וְכׇֽל־הַבָּאִ֧ים בֵּית־דָּג֛וֹן עַל־מִפְתַּ֥ן דָּג֖וֹן בְּאַשְׁדּ֑וֹד עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃ {פ}
διὰ τοῦτο οὐκ ἐπιβαίνουσιν οἱ ἱερεῖς Δαγων καὶ πᾶς ὁ εἰσπορευόμενος εἰς οἶκον Δαγων ἐπὶ βαθμὸν οἴκου Δαγων ἐν Ἀζώτῳ ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης ὅτι ὑπερβαίνοντες ὑπερβαίνουσιν
porro Dagon solus truncus remanserat in loco suo. Propter hanc causam non calcant sacerdotes Dagon, et omnes qui ingrediuntur templum ejus, super limen Dagon in Azoto, usque in hodiernum diem.
ወበበይነ፡ ዝንቱ፡ ኢየዐርጉ፡ ገነውቱ፡ ለዳጎን፡ ውስተ፡ ምዕራግ፡ ወኵሉ፡ ዘይበውእ፡ ውስተ፡ ቤተ፡ ዳጎን፡ እስከ፡ ዛቲ፡ ዕለት፡ በአዛጦን፡ ዳእሙ፡ ተዐድዎ፡ ይትዐደዉ።
Therefore neither the priests of Dagon nor any who come into Dagon’s house step on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.
5:6
וַתִּכְבַּ֧ד יַד־יְהֹוָ֛ה אֶל־הָאַשְׁדּוֹדִ֖ים וַיְשִׁמֵּ֑ם וַיַּ֤ךְ אֹתָם֙ (בעפלים) [בַּטְּחֹרִ֔ים] אֶת־אַשְׁדּ֖וֹד וְאֶת־גְּבוּלֶֽיהָ׃
καὶ ἐβαρύνθη χεὶρ κυρίου ἐπὶ Ἄζωτον καὶ ἐπήγαγεν αὐτοῖς καὶ ἐξέζεσεν αὐτοῖς εἰς τὰς ναῦς καὶ μέσον τῆς χώρας αὐτῆς ἀνεφύησαν μύες καὶ ἐγένετο σύγχυσις θανάτου μεγάλη ἐν τῇ πόλει
Aggravata est autem manus Domini super Azotios, et demolitus est eos : et percussit in secretiori parte natium Azotum, et fines ejus. Et ebullierunt villae et agri in medio regionis illius, et nati sunt mures et facta est confusio mortis magnae in civitate.
ወከብደት፡ እዴሁ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር፡ ላዕለ፡ ሰብአ፡ አዛጦን፡ ወአምጽአ፡ ላዕሌሆሙ፡ ወወፅአ፡ ዲቤሆሙ፡ በውስተ፡ አሕማር፡ ወበማእከለ፡ ሀገር፡ ወወፅአ፡ አናጹት፡ ወኮነ፡ ዐቢይ፡ መቅሠፍት፡ ውስተ፡ ሀገር።
But Yahweh’s hand was heavy on the people of Ashdod, and he destroyed them and struck them with tumors, even Ashdod and its borders.
5:7
וַיִּרְא֥וּ אַנְשֵֽׁי־אַשְׁדּ֖וֹד כִּי־כֵ֑ן וְאָמְר֗וּ לֹֽא־יֵשֵׁ֞ב אֲר֨וֹן אֱלֹהֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ עִמָּ֔נוּ כִּֽי־קָשְׁתָ֤ה יָדוֹ֙ עָלֵ֔ינוּ וְעַ֖ל דָּג֥וֹן אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃
καὶ εἶδον οἱ ἄνδρες Ἀζώτου ὅτι οὕτως καὶ λέγουσιν ὅτι οὐ καθήσεται κιβωτὸς τοῦ θεοῦ Ισραηλ μεθ’ ἡμῶν ὅτι σκληρὰ χεὶρ αὐτοῦ ἐφ’ ἡμᾶς καὶ ἐπὶ Δαγων θεὸν ἡμῶν
Videntes autem viri Azotii hujuscemodi plagam, dixerunt : Non maneat arca Dei Israël apud nos : quoniam dura est manus ejus super nos, et super Dagon deum nostrum.
ወሶበ፡ ርእዩ፡ ሰብአ፡ አዛጦን፡ ከመዝ፡ ይቤሉ፡ ኢትንበር፡ ታቦቱ፡ ለአምላከ፡ እስራኤል፡ ምስሌነ፡ እስመ፡ ጸንዐት፡ እዴሀ፡ (ለእግዚአብሔር፡) ዲቤነ፡ ወዲበ፡ ዳጎን፡ አምላክነ።
When the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, “The ark of the God of Israel shall not stay with us, for his hand is severe on us and on Dagon our god.”
5:8
וַיִּשְׁלְח֡וּ וַיַּאַסְפוּ֩ אֶת־כׇּל־סַרְנֵ֨י פְלִשְׁתִּ֜ים אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ מַֽה־נַּעֲשֶׂ֗ה לַֽאֲרוֹן֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ גַּ֣ת יִסֹּ֔ב אֲר֖וֹן אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיַּסֵּ֕בּוּ אֶת־אֲר֖וֹן אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ {ס}
καὶ ἀποστέλλουσιν καὶ συνάγουσιν τοὺς σατράπας τῶν ἀλλοφύλων πρὸς αὐτοὺς καὶ λέγουσιν τί ποιήσωμεν κιβωτῷ θεοῦ Ισραηλ καὶ λέγουσιν οἱ Γεθθαῖοι μετελθέτω κιβωτὸς τοῦ θεοῦ πρὸς ἡμᾶς καὶ μετῆλθεν κιβωτὸς τοῦ θεοῦ εἰς Γεθθα
Et mittentes congregaverunt omnes satrapas Philisthinorum ad se, et dixerunt : Quid faciemus de arca Dei Israël ? Responderuntque Gethaei : Circumducatur arca Dei Israël. Et circumduxerunt arcam Dei Israël.
ወለአኩ፡ ወአስተጋብእዎሙ፡ ለመላፍንተ፡ ኢሎፍሊ፡ ኀቤሆሙ፡ ወይቤልዎሙ፡ ምንተ፡ ንሬስያ፡ ለታቦተ፡ አምላከ፡ እስራኤል፡ ወይቤልዎሙ፡ ሰብእ፡ ጌታዊያን፡ ትፍልስ፡ ኀቤነ፡ ታቦተ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወፈለሰት፡ ታቦተ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ውስተ፡ ጌት።
They sent therefore and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, “What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?” They answered, “Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried over to Gath.” They carried the ark of the God of Israel there.
5:9
וַיְהִ֞י אַחֲרֵ֣י׀ הֵסַ֣בּוּ אֹת֗וֹ וַתְּהִ֨י יַד־יְהֹוָ֤ה׀בָּעִיר֙ מְהוּמָה֙ גְּדוֹלָ֣ה מְאֹ֔ד וַיַּךְ֙ אֶת־אַנְשֵׁ֣י הָעִ֔יר מִקָּטֹ֖ן וְעַד־גָּד֑וֹל וַיִּשָּׂתְר֥וּ לָהֶ֖ם (עפלים) [טְחֹרִֽים]׃
καὶ ἐγενήθη μετὰ τὸ μετελθεῖν αὐτὴν καὶ γίνεται χεὶρ κυρίου ἐν τῇ πόλει τάραχος μέγας σφόδρα καὶ ἐπάταξεν τοὺς ἄνδρας τῆς πόλεως ἀπὸ μικροῦ ἕως μεγάλου καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὰς ἕδρας αὐτῶν καὶ ἐποίησαν ἑαυτοῖς οἱ Γεθθαῖοι ἕδρας
Illis autem circumducentibus eam, fiebat manus Domini per singulas civitates interfectionis magnae nimis : et percutiebat viros uniuscujusque urbis, a parvo usque ad majorem, et computrescebant prominentes extales eorum. Inieruntque Gethaei consilium, et fecerunt sibi sedes pelliceas.
ወእምዝ፡ እምድኅረ፡ ፈለሰት፡ መጽአት፡ እደ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ውስተ፡ ሀገር፡ ወኮነ፡ ዐቢይ፡ ሁከት፡ ጥቀ፡ ወቀሠፎሙ፡ ለሰብአ፡ ይእቲ፡ ሀገር፡ ለንኡሶሙ፡ ወለዐቢዮሙ፡ ወቀሠፎሙ፡ ውስተ፡ ነፍስቶሙ፡ ወገብሩ፡ ሎሙ፡ ሰብአ፡ ጌታዊያን፡ ምስለ፡ ነፍስቶሙ።
It was so, that after they had carried it there, Yahweh’s hand was against the city with a very great confusion; and he struck the men of the city, both small and great, so that tumors broke out on them.
5:10
וַֽיְשַׁלְּח֛וּ אֶת־אֲר֥וֹן הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים עֶקְר֑וֹן וַיְהִ֗י כְּב֨וֹא אֲר֤וֹן הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ עֶקְר֔וֹן וַיִּזְעֲק֨וּ הָעֶקְרֹנִ֜ים לֵאמֹ֗ר הֵסַ֤בּוּ אֵלַי֙ אֶת־אֲרוֹן֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לַהֲמִיתֵ֖נִי וְאֶת־עַמִּֽי׃
καὶ ἐξαποστέλλουσιν τὴν κιβωτὸν τοῦ θεοῦ εἰς Ἀσκαλῶνα καὶ ἐγενήθη ὡς εἰσῆλθεν κιβωτὸς θεοῦ εἰς Ἀσκαλῶνα καὶ ἐβόησαν οἱ Ἀσκαλωνῖται λέγοντες τί ἀπεστρέψατε πρὸς ἡμᾶς τὴν κιβωτὸν τοῦ θεοῦ Ισραηλ θανατῶσαι ἡμᾶς καὶ τὸν λαὸν ἡμῶν
Miserunt ergo arcam Dei in Accaron. Cumque venisset arca Dei in Accaron, exclamaverunt Accaronitae, dicentes : Adduxerunt ad nos arcam Dei Israël ut interficiat nos et populum nostrum.
ወፈነውዋ፡ ለታቦተ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ውስተ፡ አስቃሎና ፤ ወእምዝ፡ ሶበ፡ ቦአት፡ ታቦተ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ውስተ፡ አስቃሎና፡ ጸርሑ፡ ሰብአ፡ አስቃሎና፡ ወይቤሉ፡ ለምንት፡ አግባእክሙ፡ ኀቤነ፡ ታቦተ፡ አምላከ፡ እስራኤል፡ ከመ፡ ታቅትሉነ፡ ምስለ፡ ሕዝብነ።
So they sent God’s ark to Ekron. As God’s ark came to Ekron, the Ekronites cried out, saying, “They have brought the ark of the God of Israel here to us, to kill us and our people.”
5:11
וַיִּשְׁלְח֨וּ וַיַּאַסְפ֜וּ אֶת־כׇּל־סַרְנֵ֣י פְלִשְׁתִּ֗ים וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ שַׁלְּח֞וּ אֶת־אֲר֨וֹן אֱלֹהֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וְיָשֹׁ֣ב לִמְקוֹמ֔וֹ וְלֹא־יָמִ֥ית אֹתִ֖י וְאֶת־עַמִּ֑י כִּֽי־הָיְתָ֤ה מְהֽוּמַת־מָ֙וֶת֙ בְּכׇל־הָעִ֔יר כָּבְדָ֥ה מְאֹ֛ד יַ֥ד הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים שָֽׁם׃
καὶ ἐξαποστέλλουσιν καὶ συνάγουσιν τοὺς σατράπας τῶν ἀλλοφύλων καὶ εἶπον ἐξαποστείλατε τὴν κιβωτὸν τοῦ θεοῦ Ισραηλ καὶ καθισάτω εἰς τὸν τόπον αὐτῆς καὶ οὐ μὴ θανατώσῃ ἡμᾶς καὶ τὸν λαὸν ἡμῶν ὅτι ἐγενήθη σύγχυσις θανάτου ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ πόλει βαρεῖα σφόδρα ὡς εἰσῆλθεν κιβωτὸς θεοῦ Ισραηλ ἐκεῖ
Miserunt itaque et congregaverunt omnes satrapas Philisthinorum : qui dixerunt : Dimittite arcam Dei Israël, et revertatur in locum suum, et non interficiat nos cum populo nostro.
[ወ]ለአኩ፡ ወአስተጋብአዎሙ፡ ለመሳፍንተ፡ ኢሎፍሊ፡ ወይቤልዎሙ፡ ፈንውዋ፡ ለታቦተ፡ አምላከ፡ እስራኤል፡ ወትንበር፡ ውስተ፡ መካና፡ ወኢታቅትሉነ፡ ምስለ፡ ሕዝብነ።
They sent therefore and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and they said, “Send the ark of the God of Israel away, and let it go again to its own place, that it not kill us and our people.” For there was a deadly panic throughout all the city. The hand of God was very heavy there.
5:12
וְהָֽאֲנָשִׁים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹא־מֵ֔תוּ הֻכּ֖וּ (בעפלים) [בַּטְּחֹרִ֑ים] וַתַּ֛עַל שַֽׁוְעַ֥ת הָעִ֖יר הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ {ס}
καὶ οἱ ζῶντες καὶ οὐκ ἀποθανόντες ἐπλήγησαν εἰς τὰς ἕδρας καὶ ἀνέβη ἡ κραυγὴ τῆς πόλεως εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν
Fiebat enim pavor mortis in singulis urbibus, et gravissima valde manus Dei. Viri quoque qui mortui non fuerant, percutiebantur in secretiori parte natium : et ascendebat ululatus uniuscujusque civitatis in caelum.
እስመ፡ ኮነ፡ ዐቢይ፡ መቅሠፍት፡ ውስተ፡ ሀገር፡ ጥቅ፡ ሶበ፡ ቦአት፡ ታቦተ፡ አምላከ፡ እስራኤል፡ ህየ፡ ወእለ፡ ሐይዉ፡ ወእለሂ፡ ሞቱ፡ ተቀሥፉ፡ ውስተ፡ ነፍስቶሙ፡ ወዐርገ፡ ጽራኀ፡ ሀገር፡ ውስተ፡ ሰማይ።
The men who didn’t die were struck with the tumors; and the cry of the city went up to heaven.
