17:1
וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ יְהוֹשָׁפָ֥ט בְּנ֖וֹ תַּחְתָּ֑יו וַיִּתְחַזֵּ֖ק עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν Ιωσαφατ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἀντ’ αὐτοῦ καὶ κατίσχυσεν Ιωσαφατ ἐπὶ τὸν Ισραηλ
Regnavit autem Josaphat filius ejus pro eo, et invaluit contra Israël.
ወነግሠ፡ ኢዮሳፍጥ፡ ወልዱ፡ እምድኅሬሁ፡ ወጸንዐ፡ ኢዮሳፍጥ፡ በመንግሥቱ፡ ላዕለ፡ እስራኤል።
Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his place, and strengthened himself against Israel.
17:2
וַיִּ֨תֶּן־חַ֔יִל בְּכׇל־עָרֵ֥י יְהוּדָ֖ה הַבְּצֻר֑וֹת וַיִּתֵּ֤ן נְצִיבִים֙ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ יְהוּדָ֔ה וּבְעָרֵ֣י אֶפְרַ֔יִם אֲשֶׁ֥ר לָכַ֖ד אָסָ֥א אָבִֽיו׃
καὶ ἔδωκεν δύναμιν ἐν πάσαις ταῖς πόλεσιν Ιουδα ταῖς ὀχυραῖς καὶ κατέστησεν ἡγουμένους ἐν πάσαις ταῖς πόλεσιν Ιουδα καὶ ἐν πόλεσιν Εφραιμ ἃς προκατελάβετο Ασα ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ
Constituitque militum numeros in cunctis urbibus Juda quae erant vallatae muris. Praesidiaque disposuit in terra Juda, et in civitatibus Ephraim quas ceperat Asa pater ejus.
ወአንበረ፡ ሠራዊት፡ ፀናዕት፡ ውስተ፡ ኵሉ፡ አህጉረ፡ ይሁዳ፡ ወውስተ፡ ኵሉ፡ በሐውርተ፡ ኤፍሬም፡ ወእለ፡ ገብኡ፡ በአሣ፡ አቡሁ።
He placed forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.
17:3
וַיְהִ֥י יְהֹוָ֖ה עִם־יְהוֹשָׁפָ֑ט כִּ֣י הָלַ֗ךְ בְּדַרְכֵ֞י דָּוִ֤יד אָבִיו֙ הָרִ֣אשֹׁנִ֔ים וְלֹ֥א דָרַ֖שׁ לַבְּעָלִֽים׃
καὶ ἐγένετο κύριος μετὰ Ιωσαφατ ὅτι ἐπορεύθη ἐν ὁδοῖς τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ταῖς πρώταις καὶ οὐκ ἐξεζήτησεν τὰ εἴδωλα
Et fuit Dominus cum Josaphat, quia ambulavit in viis David patris sui primis : et non speravit in Baalim,
ወሀሎ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ምስሌሁ፡ ለኢዮሳፍጥ፡ እስመ፡ ሖረ፡ በፍናወ፡ አበዊሁ፡ ቀደምት።
Yahweh was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and didn’t seek the Baals,
17:4
כִּ֠י לֵאלֹהֵ֤י אָבִיו֙ דָּרָ֔שׁ וּבְמִצְוֺתָ֖יו הָלָ֑ךְ וְלֹ֖א כְּמַעֲשֵׂ֥ה יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
ἀλλὰ κύριον τὸν θεὸν τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ἐξεζήτησεν καὶ ἐν ταῖς ἐντολαῖς τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ἐπορεύθη καὶ οὐχ ὡς τοῦ Ισραηλ τὰ ἔργα
sed in Deo patris sui : et perrexit in praeceptis illius, et non juxta peccata Israël.
ወኢኃሠሠ፡ አማልክተ፡ ነኪር፡ ዘእንበለ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አምላከ፡ አበዊሁ፡ ወበትእዛዛተ፡ አቡሁ፡ ሖረ፡ ወአኮ፡ በግብረ፡ እስራኤል።
but sought the God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not in the ways of Israel.
17:5
וַיָּ֨כֶן יְהֹוָ֤ה אֶת־הַמַּמְלָכָה֙ בְּיָד֔וֹ וַיִּתְּנ֧וּ כׇל־יְהוּדָ֛ה מִנְחָ֖ה לִיהֽוֹשָׁפָ֑ט וַיְהִי־ל֥וֹ עֹשֶׁר־וְכָב֖וֹד לָרֹֽב׃
καὶ κατηύθυνεν κύριος τὴν βασιλείαν ἐν χειρὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔδωκεν πᾶς Ιουδα δῶρα τῷ Ιωσαφατ καὶ ἐγένετο αὐτῷ πλοῦτος καὶ δόξα πολλή
Confirmavitque Dominus regnum in manu ejus, et dedit omnis Juda munera Josaphat : factaeque sunt ei infinitae divitiae, et multa gloria.
ወአርትዐ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወአጽንዐ፡ መንግሥቶ፡ በእደዊሁ፡ ወአምጽኡ፡ ሎቱ፡ ኵሉ፡ ሕዝበ፡ ይሁዳ፡ አምኀ፡ ለኢዮሳፍጥ፡ ንጉሥ፡ ወኮነ፡ ብዙኀ፡ መዋዕል፡ ወኮነ፡ ሎቱ፡ ዓቢይ፡ ክብር፡ ወብዕል።
Therefore Yahweh established the kingdom in his hand. All Judah brought tribute to Jehoshaphat, and he had riches and honor in abundance.
17:6
וַיִּגְבַּ֥הּ לִבּ֖וֹ בְּדַרְכֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֑ה וְע֗וֹד הֵסִ֛יר אֶת־הַבָּמ֥וֹת וְאֶת־הָאֲשֵׁרִ֖ים מִיהוּדָֽה׃ {פ}
καὶ ὑψώθη καρδία αὐτοῦ ἐν ὁδῷ κυρίου καὶ ἔτι ἐξῆρεν τὰ ὑψηλὰ καὶ τὰ ἄλση ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς Ιουδα
Cumque sumpsisset cor ejus audaciam propter vias Domini, etiam excelsa et lucos de Juda abstulit.
ወረትዐ፡ ልቡ፡ ውስተ፡ ፍናወ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወዓዲ፡ ደምሰሶሙ፡ ለአውግር፡ ወለአእዋም፡ እምኵሉ፡ ምድረ፡ ይሁዳ።
His heart was lifted up in the ways of Yahweh. Furthermore, he took away the high places and the Asherah poles out of Judah.
17:7
וּבִשְׁנַ֨ת שָׁל֜וֹשׁ לְמׇלְכ֗וֹ שָׁלַ֤ח לְשָׂרָיו֙ לְבֶן־חַ֙יִל֙ וּלְעֹבַדְיָ֣ה וְלִזְכַרְיָ֔ה וְלִנְתַנְאֵ֖ל וּלְמִיכָיָ֑הוּ לְלַמֵּ֖ד בְּעָרֵ֥י יְהוּדָֽה׃
καὶ ἐν τῷ τρίτῳ ἔτει τῆς βασιλείας αὐτοῦ ἀπέστειλεν τοὺς ἡγουμένους αὐτοῦ καὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς τῶν δυνατῶν τὸν Αβδιαν καὶ Ζαχαριαν καὶ Ναθαναηλ καὶ Μιχαιαν διδάσκειν ἐν πόλεσιν Ιουδα
Tertio autem anno regni sui misit de principibus suis Benhail, et Obdiam, et Zachariam, et Nathanaël, et Michaeam, ut docerent in civitatibus Juda :
ወበሣልስ፡ ዓመተ፡ መንግሥቱ፡ ፈነወ፡ መሳፍንተ፡ ወውሉደ፡ ጸናዕት፡ አብድያስሃ፡ ወዘካርያስሃ፡ ወናታሄልሃ፡ ወሚካያስሃ፡ ከመ፡ ይምሀሩ፡ በኵሉ፡ ምድረ፡ ይሁዳ።
Also in the third year of his reign he sent his princes, even Ben Hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah;
17:8
וְעִמָּהֶ֣ם הַלְוִיִּ֗ם שְֽׁמַעְיָ֡הוּ וּנְתַנְיָ֡הוּ וּזְבַדְיָ֡הוּ וַעֲשָׂהאֵ֡ל (ושמרימות) [וּשְׁמִירָמ֡וֹת] וִיהוֹנָתָן֩ וַאֲדֹ֨נִיָּ֧הוּ וְטוֹבִיָּ֛הוּ וְט֥וֹב אֲדוֹנִיָּ֖ה הַלְוִיִּ֑ם וְעִמָּהֶ֛ם אֱלִישָׁמָ֥ע וִיהוֹרָ֖ם הַכֹּהֲנִֽים׃
καὶ μετ’ αὐτῶν οἱ Λευῖται Σαμουιας καὶ Ναθανιας καὶ Ζαβδιας καὶ Ασιηλ καὶ Σεμιραμωθ καὶ Ιωναθαν καὶ Αδωνιας καὶ Τωβιας οἱ Λευῖται καὶ μετ’ αὐτῶν Ελισαμα καὶ Ιωραμ οἱ ἱερεῖς
et cum eis Levitas Semeiam, et Nathaniam, et Zabadiam, Asaël quoque, et Semiramoth, et Jonathan, Adoniamque et Thobiam, et Thobadoniam Levitas, et cum eis Elisama, et Joran sacerdotes :
ወምስሌሆሙኒ፡ ፈነወ፡ ሌዋውያነ፡ ስሙኢያስ፡ ወናትያስ፡ ወዝብድያስ፡ ወኢያስሄል፡ ወሲማራሞት፡ ወኢዮናታን፡ ወአዶንያስ፡ ወጦብያ፡ ወጦባዶንያስ፡ ሌዋውያን፡ ወምስሌሆሙ፡ ኤልሳማ፡ ወኢዮራም፡ ካህናት።
and with them Levites, even Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tobadonijah, the Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, the priests.
17:9
וַֽיְלַמְּדוּ֙ בִּיהוּדָ֔ה וְעִ֨מָּהֶ֔ם סֵ֖פֶר תּוֹרַ֣ת יְהֹוָ֑ה וַיָּסֹ֙בּוּ֙ בְּכׇל־עָרֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֔ה וַֽיְלַמְּד֖וּ בָּעָֽם׃
καὶ ἐδίδασκον ἐν Ιουδα καὶ μετ’ αὐτῶν βύβλος νόμου κυρίου καὶ διῆλθον ἐν ταῖς πόλεσιν Ιουδα καὶ ἐδίδασκον τὸν λαόν
docebantque populum in Juda, habentes librum legis Domini, et circuibant cunctas urbes Juda, atque erudiebant populum.
ወመሀሩ፡ በአህጉረ፡ ይሁዳ፡ ወምስሌሆሙኒ፡ መጽሐፈ፡ ሕጉ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር፡ ወአንሶሰዉ፡ ውስተ፡ ኵሉ፡ አህጉረ፡ ይሁዳ፡ ወመሀርዎሙ፡ ለሕዝብ።
They taught in Judah, having the book of Yahweh’s law with them. They went about throughout all the cities of Judah and taught among the people.
17:10
וַיְהִ֣י׀ פַּ֣חַד יְהֹוָ֗ה עַ֚ל כׇּל־מַמְלְכ֣וֹת הָאֲרָצ֔וֹת אֲשֶׁ֖ר סְבִיב֣וֹת יְהוּדָ֑ה וְלֹ֥א נִלְחֲמ֖וּ עִם־יְהוֹשָׁפָֽט׃
καὶ ἐγένετο ἔκστασις κυρίου ἐπὶ πάσαις ταῖς βασιλείαις τῆς γῆς ταῖς κύκλῳ Ιουδα καὶ οὐκ ἐπολέμουν πρὸς Ιωσαφατ
Itaque factus est pavor Domini super omnia regna terrarum quae erant per gyrum Juda, nec audebant bellare contra Josaphat.
ወኮነ፡ ፍርሃተ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ላዕለ፡ ሕዝብ፡ ወላዕለ፡ ነገሥተ፡ ምድር፡ እለ፡ አጽናፈ፡ ይሁዳ፡ ወኢተቃትልዎ፡ ለኢዮሳፍጥ።
The fear of Yahweh fell on all the kingdoms of the lands that were around Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.
17:11
וּמִן־פְּלִשְׁתִּ֗ים מְבִיאִ֧ים לִיהוֹשָׁפָ֛ט מִנְחָ֖ה וְכֶ֣סֶף מַשָּׂ֑א גַּ֣ם הָעַרְבִיאִ֗ים מְבִיאִ֥ים לוֹ֙ צֹ֕אן אֵילִ֗ים שִׁבְעַ֤ת אֲלָפִים֙ וּשְׁבַ֣ע מֵא֔וֹת וּתְיָשִׁ֕ים שִׁבְעַ֥ת אֲלָפִ֖ים וּשְׁבַ֥ע מֵאֽוֹת׃ {פ}
καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν ἀλλοφύλων ἔφερον τῷ Ιωσαφατ δῶρα καὶ ἀργύριον καὶ δόματα καὶ οἱ Ἄραβες ἔφερον αὐτῷ κριοὺς προβάτων ἑπτακισχιλίους ἑπτακοσίους
Sed et Philisthaei Josaphat munera deferebant, et vectigal argenti : Arabes quoque adducebant pecora, arietum septem millia septingenta, et hircorum totidem.
ወእምኢሎፍሊ፡ ያመጽኡ፡ ሎቱ፡ ለኢዮሳፍጥ፡ ንጉሥ፡ አምኀ፡ ወርቀ፡ ወብሩረ፡ ወገብረ፡ ያመጽኡ፡ ሎቱ፡ ወሰብአ፡ ዓረብኒ፡ ያመጽኡ፡ ሎቱ፡ አባግዐ፡ አትቡዐ፡ ሰባዓ፡ ምእተ፡ ወሰብዓተ፡ ምእተ፡ ወሐራጊተ፡ ጠሊ፡ ሰብዓ፡ ምእተ፡ ወሰብዓተ፡ ምእተ።
Some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents and silver for tribute. The Arabians also brought him flocks: seven thousand seven hundred rams and seven thousand seven hundred male goats.
17:12
וַיְהִ֧י יְהוֹשָׁפָ֛ט הֹלֵ֥ךְ וְגָדֵ֖ל עַד־לְמָ֑עְלָה וַיִּ֧בֶן בִּיהוּדָ֛ה בִּירָנִיּ֖וֹת וְעָרֵ֥י מִסְכְּנֽוֹת׃
καὶ ἦν Ιωσαφατ πορευόμενος μείζων ἕως εἰς ὕψος καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν οἰκήσεις ἐν τῇ Ιουδαίᾳ καὶ πόλεις ὀχυράς
Crevit ergo Josaphat, et magnificatus est usque in sublime : atque aedificavit in Juda domos ad instar turrium, urbesque muratas.
ወኢዮሳፍጥ፡ እንዘ፡ ይጸንዕ፡ የሐውር፡ ወኀበ፡ ኀበ፡ ይከብር፡ ጥቀ፡ ወሐነፀ፡ አብያተ፡ ውስተ፡ በሐውርተ፡ ይሁዳ፡ ወአህጉረ፡ ጸናዕት።
Jehoshaphat grew great exceedingly; and he built fortresses and store cities in Judah.
17:13
וּמְלָאכָ֥ה רַבָּ֛ה הָ֥יָה ל֖וֹ בְּעָרֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֑ה וְאַנְשֵׁ֧י מִלְחָמָ֛ה גִּבּ֥וֹרֵי חַ֖יִל בִּירוּשָׁלָֽ͏ִם׃
καὶ ἔργα πολλὰ ἐγένετο αὐτῷ ἐν τῇ Ιουδαίᾳ καὶ ἄνδρες πολεμισταὶ δυνατοὶ ἰσχύοντες ἐν Ιερουσαλημ
Et multa opera paravit in urbibus Juda : viri quoque bellatores et robusti erant in Jerusalem,
ወገብረ፡ ብዙኀ፡ ተግባረ፡ ሎቱ፡ በይሁዳ፡ ወእደው፡ ጸናዕት፡ መስተቃትላን፡ ወጽኑዓን፡ ሀለዉ፡ ምስሌሁ፡ በኢየሩሳሌም።
He had many works in the cities of Judah; and men of war, mighty men of valor, in Jerusalem.
17:14
וְאֵ֥לֶּה פְקֻדָּתָ֖ם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבוֹתֵיהֶ֑ם לִֽיהוּדָה֙ שָׂרֵ֣י אֲלָפִ֔ים {ס} עַדְנָ֣ה הַשָּׂ֔ר וְעִמּוֹ֙ גִּבּ֣וֹרֵי חַ֔יִל שְׁלֹ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת אָֽלֶף׃ {ס}
καὶ οὗτος ἀριθμὸς αὐτῶν κατ’ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν τῷ Ιουδα χιλίαρχοι Εδνας ὁ ἄρχων καὶ μετ’ αὐτοῦ υἱοὶ δυνατοὶ δυνάμεως τριακόσιαι χιλιάδες
quorum iste numerus per domos atque familias singulorum : in Juda principes exercitus, Ednas dux, et cum eo robustissimi viri trecenta millia.
ወዝንቱ፡ ውእቱ፡ ኍልቆሙ፡ በበቤተ፡ አበዊሆሙ፡ ለይሁዳ፡ ርኡሳነ፡ እልፍ፡ አድናስ፡ መልአክ፡ ወምስሌሁ፡ እደው፡ ጸኑዓን፡ በኃይል፡ ሠላሳ፡ እልፍ።
This was the numbering of them according to their fathers’ houses: From Judah, the captains of thousands: Adnah the captain, and with him three hundred thousand mighty men of valor;
17:15
וְעַל־יָד֖וֹ יְהוֹחָנָ֣ן הַשָּׂ֑ר וְעִמּ֕וֹ מָאתַ֥יִם וּשְׁמוֹנִ֖ים אָֽלֶף׃ {ס}
καὶ μετ’ αὐτὸν Ιωαναν ὁ ἡγούμενος καὶ μετ’ αὐτοῦ διακόσιαι ὀγδοήκοντα χιλιάδες
Post hunc Johanan princeps, et cum eo ducenta octoginta millia.
ወምስሌሆሙ፡ ኢዮአናን፡ መስፍን፡ ወምስሌሁኒ፡ ዕሥራ፡ እልፍ፡ ወሰማንያ፡ ምእት፡ እደው።
and next to him Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred eighty thousand;
17:16
וְעַל־יָדוֹ֙ עֲמַסְיָ֣ה בֶן־זִכְרִ֔י הַמִּתְנַדֵּ֖ב לַיהֹוָ֑ה וְעִמּ֛וֹ מָאתַ֥יִם אֶ֖לֶף גִּבּ֥וֹר חָֽיִל׃ {ס}
καὶ μετ’ αὐτὸν Αμασιας ὁ τοῦ Ζαχρι ὁ προθυμούμενος τῷ κυρίῳ καὶ μετ’ αὐτοῦ διακόσιαι χιλιάδες δυνατοὶ δυνάμεως
Post istum quoque Amasias filius Zechri, consecratus Domino, et cum eo ducenta millia virorum fortium.
ወምስሌሁኒ፡ ማስያስ፡ ወልደ፡ ዝክሪ፡ ዘይፀመዶ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር፡ ወምስሌሁ፡ እደው፡ ጽናዕት፡ ዕሥራ፡ እልፍ።
and next to him Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself to Yahweh, and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valor.
17:17
וּמִ֨ן־בִּנְיָמִ֔ן גִּבּ֥וֹר חַ֖יִל אֶלְיָדָ֑ע וְעִמּ֛וֹ נֹשְׁקֵי־קֶ֥שֶׁת וּמָגֵ֖ן מָאתַ֥יִם אָֽלֶף׃ {ס}
καὶ ἐκ τοῦ Βενιαμιν δυνατὸς δυνάμεως Ελιαδα καὶ μετ’ αὐτοῦ τοξόται καὶ πελτασταὶ διακόσιαι χιλιάδες
Hunc sequebatur robustus ad praelia Eliada, et cum eo tenentium arcum et clypeum ducenta millia.
ወእምነገደ፡ ብንያም፡ ብእሲ፡ ጽኑዕ፡ ዘስሙ፡ ኤልያዳ፡ ወምስሌሁ፡ አደው፡ ነዳፍያን፡ ወወፃፍያን፡ ዕሥራ፡ እልፍ።
From Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valor, and with him two hundred thousand armed with bow and shield;
17:18
וְעַל־יָד֖וֹ יְהוֹזָבָ֑ד וְעִמּ֛וֹ מֵאָה־וּשְׁמוֹנִ֥ים אֶ֖לֶף חֲלוּצֵ֥י צָבָֽא׃ {ס}
καὶ μετ’ αὐτὸν Ιωζαβαδ καὶ μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἑκατὸν ὀγδοήκοντα χιλιάδες δυνατοὶ πολέμου
Post istum etiam Jozabad, et cum eo centum octoginta millia expeditorum militum.
ወምስሌሁኒ፡ ዮዛብድ፡ ወምስሌሁ፡ ዓሠርቱ፡ እልፍ፡ ወሰማንያ፡ ምእት፡ አደው፡ ጽኑዓን፡ ለተቃትሎ።
and next to him Jehozabad, and with him one hundred eighty thousand ready and prepared for war.
17:19
אֵ֖לֶּה הַמְשָׁרְתִ֣ים אֶת־הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ מִלְּבַ֞ד אֲשֶׁר־נָתַ֥ן הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ בְּעָרֵ֥י הַמִּבְצָ֖ר בְּכׇל־יְהוּדָֽה׃ {פ}
οὗτοι οἱ λειτουργοῦντες τῷ βασιλεῖ ἐκτὸς ὧν ἔδωκεν ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐν ταῖς πόλεσιν ταῖς ὀχυραῖς ἐν πάσῃ τῇ Ιουδαίᾳ
Hi omnes erant ad manum regis, exceptis aliis quos posuerat in urbibus muratis in universo Juda.
ወእሉ፡ ኵሎሙ፡ ይትለአክዎ፡ ለንጉሥ፡ ዘእንበለ፡ ዘአንበረ፡ ኢዮሳፍጥ፡ ውስተ፡ አህጉር፡ ጸናዕት፡ ወውስተ፡ ኵሉ፡ በሐውርተ፡ ይሁዳ።
These were those who waited on the king, in addition to those whom the king put in the fortified cities throughout all Judah.
