1:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַֽיְהִ֗י אַֽחֲרֵי֙ מ֣וֹת שָׁא֔וּל וְדָוִ֣ד שָׁ֔ב מֵהַכּ֖וֹת אֶת ־הָעֲמָלֵ֑ק וַיֵּ֧שֶׁב דָּוִ֛ד בְּצִֽקְלָ֖ג יָמִ֥ים שְׁנָֽיִם ׃
καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ τὸ ἀποθανεῖν Σαουλ καὶ Δαυιδ ἀνέστρεψεν τύπτων τὸν Αμαληκ καὶ ἐκάθισεν Δαυιδ ἐν Σεκελακ ἡμέρας δύο
Factum est autem , postquam mortuus est Saul , ut David reverteretur a caede Amalec , et maneret in Siceleg duos dies .
— After the death of Saul, when David had returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had stayed two days in Ziklag,
1:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיְהִ֣י ׀ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֗י וְהִנֵּה֩ אִ֨ישׁ בָּ֤א מִן ־הַֽמַּחֲנֶה֙ מֵעִ֣ם שָׁא֔וּל וּבְגָדָ֣יו קְרֻעִ֔ים וַאֲדָמָ֖ה עַל ־רֹאשׁ֑וֹ וַֽיְהִי֙ בְּבֹא֣וֹ אֶל ־דָּוִ֔ד וַיִּפֹּ֥ל אַ֖רְצָה וַיִּשְׁתָּֽחוּ ׃
καὶ ἐγενήθη τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τρίτῃ καὶ ἰδοὺ ἀνὴρ ἦλθεν ἐκ τῆς παρεμβολῆς ἐκ τοῦ λαοῦ Σαουλ καὶ τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ διερρωγότα καὶ γῆ ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ εἰσελθεῖν αὐτὸν πρὸς Δαυιδ καὶ ἔπεσεν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν καὶ προσεκύνησεν αὐτῷ
In die autem tertia apparuit homo veniens de castris Saul veste conscissa , et pulvere conspersus caput : et ut venit ad David , cecidit super faciem suam , et adoravit .
ወአመ ፡ ሣልስት ፡ ዕለት ፡ መጽአ ፡ ብእሲ ፡ እምነ ፡ ትዕይንት ፡ እምውስተ ፡ ሕዝቡ ፡ ለሳኦል ፡ ወሥጡጥ ፡ አልባሲሁ ፡ ወሐመድ ፡ ዲበ ፡ ርእሱ ፡ ወሶበ ፡ ቦአ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ ወድቀ ፡ ዲበ ፡ ምድር ፡ ወሰገደ ፡ ሎቱ ።
on the third day, behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul, with his clothes torn and earth on his head. When he came to David, he fell to the earth and showed respect.
1:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לוֹ֙ דָּוִ֔ד אֵ֥י מִזֶּ֖ה תָּב֑וֹא וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֔יו מִמַּחֲנֵ֥ה יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל נִמְלָֽטְתִּי ׃
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Δαυιδ πόθεν σὺ παραγίνῃ καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν ἐκ τῆς παρεμβολῆς Ισραηλ ἐγὼ διασέσῳσμαι
Dixitque ad eum David : Unde venis ? Qui ait ad eum : De castris Israël fugi .
ወይቤሎ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ እምአይቴ ፡ መጻእከ ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ እምነ ፡ ትዕይንተ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ አነ ፡ ዘድኅንኩ ።
David said to him, “Where do you come from?” He said to him, “I have escaped out of the camp of Israel.”
1:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלָ֥יו דָּוִ֛ד מֶה ־הָיָ֥ה הַדָּבָ֖ר הַגֶּד ־נָ֣א לִ֑י וַ֠יֹּ֠אמֶר אֲשֶׁר ־נָ֨ס הָעָ֜ם מִן ־הַמִּלְחָמָ֗ה וְגַם ־הַרְבֵּ֞ה נָפַ֤ל מִן ־הָעָם֙ וַיָּמֻ֔תוּ וְגַ֗ם שָׁא֛וּל וִיהוֹנָתָ֥ן בְּנ֖וֹ מֵֽתוּ ׃
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Δαυιδ τίς ὁ λόγος οὗτος ἀπάγγειλόν μοι καὶ εἶπεν ὅτι ἔφυγεν ὁ λαὸς ἐκ τοῦ πολέμου καὶ πεπτώκασι πολλοὶ ἐκ τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ ἀπέθανον καὶ ἀπέθανεν καὶ Σαουλ καὶ Ιωναθαν ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἀπέθανεν
Et dixit ad eum David : Quod est verbum quod factum est ? indica mihi . Qui ait : Fugit populus ex praelio , et multi corruentes e populo mortui sunt : sed et Saul et Jonathas filius ejus interierunt .
ወይቤሎ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ ምንትኑ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ ነገር ፡ ዜንወኒ ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ጐዩ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ በውስተ ፡ ቀትል ፡ ወብዙኃን ፡ እለ ፡ ወድቁ ፡ እምውስተ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ ወሞተ ፡ ሳኦልኒ ፡ ወዮናታን ፡ ወልዱ ።
David said to him, “How did it go? Please tell me.” He answered, “The people have fled from the battle, and many of the people also have fallen and are dead. Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.”
1:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֔ד אֶל ־הַנַּ֖עַר הַמַּגִּ֣יד ל֑וֹ אֵ֣יךְ יָדַ֔עְתָּ כִּֽי ־מֵ֥ת שָׁא֖וּל וִיהוֹנָתָ֥ן בְּנֽוֹ ׃
καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ τῷ παιδαρίῳ τῷ ἀπαγγέλλοντι αὐτῷ πῶς οἶδας ὅτι τέθνηκεν Σαουλ καὶ Ιωναθαν ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ
Dixitque David ad adolescentem qui nuntiabat ei : Unde scis quia mortuus est Saul , et Jonathas filius ejus ?
ወይቤሎ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ ለውእቱ ፡ ብእሲ ፡ ዘዜነዎ ፡ እፎ ፡ አእመርከ ፡ ከመ ፡ ሞቱ ፡ ሳኦል ፡ ወዮናታን ፡ ወልዱ ።
David said to the young man who told him, “How do you know that Saul and Jonathan his son are dead?”
1:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֜אמֶר הַנַּ֣עַר ׀ הַמַּגִּ֣יד ל֗וֹ נִקְרֹ֤א נִקְרֵ֙יתִי֙ בְּהַ֣ר הַגִּלְבֹּ֔עַ וְהִנֵּ֥ה שָׁא֖וּל נִשְׁעָ֣ן עַל ־חֲנִית֑וֹ וְהִנֵּ֥ה הָרֶ֛כֶב וּבַעֲלֵ֥י הַפָּרָשִׁ֖ים הִדְבִּקֻֽהוּ ׃
καὶ εἶπεν τὸ παιδάριον τὸ ἀπαγγέλλον αὐτῷ περιπτώματι περιέπεσον ἐν τῷ ὄρει τῷ Γελβουε καὶ ἰδοὺ Σαουλ ἐπεστήρικτο ἐπὶ τὸ δόρυ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἰδοὺ τὰ ἅρματα καὶ οἱ ἱππάρχαι συνῆψαν αὐτῷ
Et ait adolescens qui nuntiabat ei : Casu veni in montem Gelboë , et Saul incumbebat super hastam suam : porro currus et equites appropinquabant ei ,
ወይቤሎ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ብእሲ ፡ ዘዜነዎ ፡ ተቃተሉ ፡ ወወድቁ ፡ በደብረ ፡ ጌላቡሔ ፡ ወእምዝ ፡ ረከብክዎ ፡ ለሳኦል ፡ ይሰክብ ፡ በኲናቱ ፡ ወእምዝ ፡ በጽሕዎ ፡ ሰረገላት ፡ ወመስተጽዕናነ ፡ አፍራስ ።
The young man who told him said, “As I happened by chance on Mount Gilboa, behold, Saul was leaning on his spear; and behold, the chariots and the horsemen followed close behind him.
1:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּ֥פֶן אַחֲרָ֖יו וַיִּרְאֵ֑נִי וַיִּקְרָ֣א אֵלַ֔י וָאֹמַ֖ר הִנֵּֽנִי ׃
καὶ ἐπέβλεψεν ἐπὶ τὰ ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶδέν με καὶ ἐκάλεσέν με καὶ εἶπα ἰδοὺ ἐγώ
et conversus post tergum suum , vidensque me , vocavit . Cui cum respondissem : Adsum :
ወተመይጠ ፡ ድኅሬሁ ፡ ወርእየኒ ፡ ወጸውዐኒ ፡ ወእቤሎ ፡ ነየ ፡ አነ ።
When he looked behind him, he saw me and called to me. I answered, ‘Here I am.’
1:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר לִ֖י מִי ־אָ֑תָּה (ויאמר ) [וָאֹמַ֣ר ] אֵלָ֔יו עֲמָלֵקִ֖י אָנֹֽכִי ׃
καὶ εἶπέν μοι τίς εἶ σύ καὶ εἶπα Αμαληκίτης ἐγώ εἰμι
dixit mihi : Quisnam es tu ? Et aio ad eum : Amalecites ego sum .
ወይቤለኒ ፡ መኑ ፡ አንተ ፡ ወእቤሎ ፡ ዐማሌቃዊ ፡ አነ ።
He said to me, ‘Who are you?’ I answered him, ‘I am an Amalekite.’
1:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלַ֗י עֲמׇד ־נָ֤א עָלַי֙ וּמֹ֣תְתֵ֔נִי כִּ֥י אֲחָזַ֖נִי הַשָּׁבָ֑ץ כִּֽי ־כׇל ־ע֥וֹד נַפְשִׁ֖י בִּֽי ׃
καὶ εἶπεν πρός με στῆθι δὴ ἐπάνω μου καὶ θανάτωσόν με ὅτι κατέσχεν με σκότος δεινόν ὅτι πᾶσα ἡ ψυχή μου ἐν ἐμοί
Et locutus est mihi : Sta super me , et interfice me : quoniam tenent me angustiae , et adhuc tota anima mea in me est .
ወይቤለኒ ፡ ቁም ፡ ላዕሌየ ፡ ወቅትለኒ ፡ እስመ ፡ አኀዘተኒ ፡ ጽልመት ፡ እኪት ፡ እስመ ፡ ኢሀለወት ፡ ላዕሌየ ፡ ኵላ ፡ ነፍስየ ።
He said to me, ‘Please stand beside me, and kill me, for anguish has taken hold of me because my life lingers in me.’
1:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ וָאֶעֱמֹ֤ד עָלָיו֙ וַאֲמֹ֣תְתֵ֔הוּ כִּ֣י יָדַ֔עְתִּי כִּ֛י לֹ֥א יִֽחְיֶ֖ה אַחֲרֵ֣י נִפְל֑וֹ וָאֶקַּ֞ח הַנֵּ֣זֶר ׀ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עַל ־רֹאשׁ֗וֹ וְאֶצְעָדָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עַל ־זְרֹע֔וֹ וָאֲבִיאֵ֥ם אֶל ־אֲדֹנִ֖י הֵֽנָּה ׃
καὶ ἐπέστην ἐπ’ αὐτὸν καὶ ἐθανάτωσα αὐτόν ὅτι ᾔδειν ὅτι οὐ ζήσεται μετὰ τὸ πεσεῖν αὐτόν καὶ ἔλαβον τὸ βασίλειον τὸ ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ καὶ τὸν χλιδῶνα τὸν ἐπὶ τοῦ βραχίονος αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐνήνοχα αὐτὰ τῷ κυρίῳ μου ὧδε
Stansque super eum , occidi illum : sciebam enim quod vivere non poterat post ruinam : et tuli diadema quod erat in capite ejus , et armillam de brachio illius , et attuli ad te dominum meum huc .
ወቆምኩ ፡ ላሳሌሁ ፡ ወቀተልክዎ ፡ እስመ ፡ አእመርኩ ፡ ከመ ፡ ኢየሐዩ ፡ እምድኅረ ፡ ወድቆ ፤ ወነሣእኩ ፡ አከሊሎ ፡ እምውስተ ፡ ርእሱ ፡ ወመዝግሐ ፡ ልብሱ ፡ ዘውስተ ፡ መታክፍቱ ፡ ወአምጻእኩ ፡ ዝየ ፡ ኀበ ፡ እግዚእየ ።
So I stood beside him and killed him, because I was sure that he could not live after he had fallen. I took the crown that was on his head and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them here to my lord.”
1:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיַּחֲזֵ֥ק דָּוִ֛ד בִּבְגָדָ֖ו וַיִּקְרָעֵ֑ם וְגַ֥ם כׇּל ־הָאֲנָשִׁ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר אִתּֽוֹ ׃
καὶ ἐκράτησεν Δαυιδ τῶν ἱματίων αὐτοῦ καὶ διέρρηξεν αὐτά καὶ πάντες οἱ ἄνδρες οἱ μετ’ αὐτοῦ διέρρηξαν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτῶν
Apprehendens autem David , vestimenta sua scidit , omnesque viri qui erant cum eo ,
ወሠጠጠ ፡ አልባሲሁ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ ወኵሉ ፡ ሰብእ ፡ እለ ፡ ምስሌሁ ፡ ሠጠጡ ፡ አልባሲሆሙ ።
Then David took hold of his clothes and tore them; and all the men who were with him did likewise.
1:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַֽיִּסְפְּדוּ֙ וַיִּבְכּ֔וּ וַיָּצֻ֖מוּ עַד ־הָעָ֑רֶב עַל ־שָׁא֞וּל וְעַל ־יְהוֹנָתָ֣ן בְּנ֗וֹ וְעַל ־עַ֤ם יְהֹוָה֙ וְעַל ־בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל כִּ֥י נָפְל֖וּ בֶּחָֽרֶב ׃ {פ}
καὶ ἐκόψαντο καὶ ἔκλαυσαν καὶ ἐνήστευσαν ἕως δείλης ἐπὶ Σαουλ καὶ ἐπὶ Ιωναθαν τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν λαὸν Ιουδα καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον Ισραηλ ὅτι ἐπλήγησαν ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ
et planxerunt , et fleverunt , et jejunaverunt usque ad vesperam super Saul , et super Jonathan filium ejus , et super populum Domini , et super domum Israël , eo quod corruissent gladio .
ወበከይዎ ፡ ወጾሙ ፡ ወበከዩ ፡ እስከ ፡ ፍና ፡ ሰርከ ፡ [ላዕለ ፡ ሳኦል ፡] ወላዕለ ፡ ዮናታን ፡ ወላዕለ ፡ ሕዝበ ፡ ይሁዳ ፡ ወላዕለ ፡ ቤተ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ እስመ ፡ ሞቱ ፡ በኲናት ።
They mourned, wept, and fasted until evening for Saul and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of Yahweh, and for the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.
1:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֗ד אֶל ־הַנַּ֙עַר֙ הַמַּגִּ֣יד ל֔וֹ אֵ֥י מִזֶּ֖ה אָ֑תָּה וַיֹּ֕אמֶר בֶּן ־אִ֛ישׁ גֵּ֥ר עֲמָלֵקִ֖י אָנֹֽכִי ׃
καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ τῷ παιδαρίῳ τῷ ἀπαγγέλλοντι αὐτῷ πόθεν εἶ σύ καὶ εἶπεν υἱὸς ἀνδρὸς παροίκου Αμαληκίτου ἐγώ εἰμι
Dixitque David ad juvenem qui nuntiaverat ei : Unde es tu ? Qui respondit : Filius hominis advenae Amalecitae ego sum .
ወይቤሎ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ ለውእቱ ፡ ብእሲ ፡ ዘዜነዎ ፡ እምአይቴ ፡ አንተ ፡ ወይቤ ፡ ወልደ ፡ ብእሲ ፡ ፈላሲ ፡ ዐማሌቃዊ ፡ አነ ።
David said to the young man who told him, “Where are you from?” He answered, “I am the son of a foreigner, an Amalekite.”
1:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֵלָ֖יו דָּוִ֑ד אֵ֚יךְ לֹ֣א יָרֵ֔אתָ לִשְׁלֹ֙חַ֙ יָֽדְךָ֔ לְשַׁחֵ֖ת אֶת ־מְשִׁ֥יחַ יְהֹוָֽה ׃
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Δαυιδ πῶς οὐκ ἐφοβήθης ἐπενεγκεῖν χεῖρά σου διαφθεῖραι τὸν χριστὸν κυρίου
Et ait ad eum David : Quare non timuisti mittere manum tuam ut occideres christum Domini ?
ወይቤሎ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ እፎ ፡ ኢፈራህከ ፡ አውርዶ ፡ እዴከ ፡ ላዕለ ፡ መሲሑ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ፡ ከመ ፡ ትቅትሎ ።
David said to him, “Why were you not afraid to stretch out your hand to destroy Yahweh’s anointed?”
1:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיִּקְרָ֣א דָוִ֗ד לְאַחַד֙ מֵֽהַנְּעָרִ֔ים וַיֹּ֖אמֶר גַּ֣שׁ פְּגַע ־בּ֑וֹ וַיַּכֵּ֖הוּ וַיָּמֹֽת ׃
καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Δαυιδ ἓν τῶν παιδαρίων αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπεν προσελθὼν ἀπάντησον αὐτῷ καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτόν καὶ ἀπέθανεν
Vocansque David unum de pueris suis , ait : Accedens irrue in eum . Qui percussit illum , et mortuus est .
ወጸውዐ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ አሐደ ፡ እምውስተ ፡ ደቁ ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ሖር ፡ ቅትሎ ፡ ወቀተሎ ።
David called one of the young men and said, “Go near, and cut him down!” He struck him so that he died.
1:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלָיו֙ דָּוִ֔ד (דמיך ) [דָּמְךָ֖ ] עַל ־רֹאשֶׁ֑ךָ כִּ֣י פִ֗יךָ עָנָ֤ה בְךָ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר אָנֹכִ֥י מֹתַ֖תִּי אֶת ־מְשִׁ֥יחַ יְהֹוָֽה ׃ {פ}
καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ πρὸς αὐτόν τὸ αἷμά σου ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλήν σου ὅτι τὸ στόμα σου ἀπεκρίθη κατὰ σοῦ λέγων ὅτι ἐγὼ ἐθανάτωσα τὸν χριστὸν κυρίου
Et ait ad eum David : Sanguis tuus super caput tuum : os enim tuum locutum est adversum te , dicens : Ego interfeci christum Domini .
ወይቤሎ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ ደምከ ፡ ላዕለ ፡ ርእስከ ፡ ለይኩን ፡ እስመ ፡ አፉከ ፡ ነበበ ፡ ወትቤ ፡ አነ ፡ ቀተልክዎ ፡ ለመሲሐ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ።
David said to him, “Your blood be on your head, for your mouth has testified against you, saying, ‘I have slain Yahweh’s anointed.’”
1:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיְקֹנֵ֣ן דָּוִ֔ד אֶת ־הַקִּינָ֖ה הַזֹּ֑את עַל ־שָׁא֖וּל וְעַל ־יְהוֹנָתָ֥ן בְּנֽוֹ ׃
καὶ ἐθρήνησεν Δαυιδ τὸν θρῆνον τοῦτον ἐπὶ Σαουλ καὶ ἐπὶ Ιωναθαν τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ
Planxit autem David planctum hujuscemodi super Saul , et super Jonathan filium ejus
ወበከዮሙ ፡ ዳዊት ፡ ለሳኦል ፡ ወለዮናታን ፡ ወልዱ ።
David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son
1:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ וַיֹּ֕אמֶר לְלַמֵּ֥ד בְּנֵֽי ־יְהוּדָ֖ה קָ֑שֶׁת הִנֵּ֥ה כְתוּבָ֖ה עַל ־סֵ֥פֶר הַיָּשָֽׁר ׃
καὶ εἶπεν τοῦ διδάξαι τοὺς υἱοὺς Ιουδα ἰδοὺ γέγραπται ἐπὶ βιβλίου τοῦ εὐθοῦς
(et praecepit ut docerent filios Juda arcum , sicut scriptum est in libro justorum ), et ait : Considera , Israël , pro his qui mortui sunt , super excelsa tua vulnerati .
ወይቤ ፡ ከመ ፡ ይምሀሮሙ ፡ ለደቂቀ ፡ ይሁዳ ፡ ወይቤ ፡ ናሁ ፡ ጽሑፍ ፡ ውስተ ፡ መጽሐ [ፈ ]፡ ርቱዕ ።
(and he commanded them to teach the children of Judah the song of the bow; behold, it is written in the book of Jashar):
1:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ הַצְּבִי֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל עַל ־בָּמוֹתֶ֖יךָ חָלָ֑ל אֵ֖יךְ נָפְל֥וּ גִבּוֹרִֽים ׃
στήλωσον Ισραηλ ὑπὲρ τῶν τεθνηκότων ἐπὶ τὰ ὕψη σου τραυματιῶν πῶς ἔπεσαν δυνατοί
Inclyti Israël super montes tuos interfecti sunt : quomodo ceciderunt fortes ?
[ትከል ፡] ሐውልተ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ላዕለ ፡ ምውታን ፡ ወበውሰተ ፡ መልዕልተ ፡ ቅቱላን ፡ እፎኑመ ፡ ወድቁ ፡ ጽኑዓን ።
“Your glory, Israel, was slain on your high places! How the mighty have fallen!
1:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ אַל ־תַּגִּ֣ידֽוּ בְגַ֔ת אַֽל ־תְּבַשְּׂר֖וּ בְּחוּצֹ֣ת אַשְׁקְל֑וֹן פֶּן ־תִּשְׂמַ֙חְנָה֙ בְּנ֣וֹת פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים פֶּֽן ־תַּעֲלֹ֖זְנָה בְּנ֥וֹת הָעֲרֵלִֽים ׃
μὴ ἀναγγείλητε ἐν Γεθ καὶ μὴ εὐαγγελίσησθε ἐν ταῖς ἐξόδοις Ἀσκαλῶνος μήποτε εὐφρανθῶσιν θυγατέρες ἀλλοφύλων μήποτε ἀγαλλιάσωνται θυγατέρες τῶν ἀπεριτμήτων
Nolite annuntiare in Geth , neque annuntietis in compitis Ascalonis : ne forte laetentur filiae Philisthiim ; ne exultent filiae incircumcisorum .

1:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ הָרֵ֣י בַגִּלְבֹּ֗עַ אַל ־טַ֧ל וְאַל ־מָטָ֛ר עֲלֵיכֶ֖ם וּשְׂדֵ֣י תְרוּמֹ֑ת כִּ֣י שָׁ֤ם נִגְעַל֙ מָגֵ֣ן גִּבּוֹרִ֔ים מָגֵ֣ן שָׁא֔וּל בְּלִ֖י מָשִׁ֥יחַ בַּשָּֽׁמֶן ׃
ὄρη τὰ ἐν Γελβουε μὴ καταβῇ δρόσος καὶ μὴ ὑετὸς ἐφ’ ὑμᾶς καὶ ἀγροὶ ἀπαρχῶν ὅτι ἐκεῖ προσωχθίσθη θυρεὸς δυνατῶν θυρεὸς Σαουλ οὐκ ἐχρίσθη ἐν ἐλαίῳ
Montes Gelboë , nec ros , nec pluvia veniant super vos , neque sint agri primitiarum : quia ibi abjectus est clypeus fortium : clypeus Saul , quasi non esset unctus oleo .
አድባረ ፡ ጌላቡሔ ፡ ኢይረድ ፡ ጠል ፡ ወዝናም ፡ ላዕሌክን ፡ ወአሕቃላተ ፡ አጣርቆን ፡ እስመ ፡ በህየ ፡ ኀስረ ፡ አናቅጺሆሙ ፡ ለኀያላን ፤ ንዋየ ፡ ሐቅሉ ፡ ለሳኦል ፡ ኢተቀብአት ፡ በቅብእ ፡ ዘእንበለ ፡ በደመ ፡ ቅቱላን ፤
You mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew or rain on you, and no fields of offerings; for there the shield of the mighty was defiled and cast away, the shield of Saul was not anointed with oil.
1:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ מִדַּ֣ם חֲלָלִ֗ים מֵחֵ֙לֶב֙ גִּבּוֹרִ֔ים קֶ֚שֶׁת יְה֣וֹנָתָ֔ן לֹ֥א נָשׂ֖וֹג אָח֑וֹר וְחֶ֣רֶב שָׁא֔וּל לֹ֥א תָשׁ֖וּב רֵיקָֽם ׃
ἀφ’ αἵματος τραυματιῶν ἀπὸ στέατος δυνατῶν τόξον Ιωναθαν οὐκ ἀπεστράφη κενὸν εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω καὶ ῥομφαία Σαουλ οὐκ ἀνέκαμψεν κενή
A sanguine interfectorum , ab adipe fortium , sagitta Jonathae numquam rediit retrorsum , et gladius Saul non est reversus inanis .
ቀስተ ፡ ዮናታን ፡ ኢገብአት ፡ ድኅሬሃ ፡ ዕራቃ ፡ ወኲናቱሂ ፡ ለሳኦል ፡ ኢገብአት ፡ ዕራቃ ።
From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty, Jonathan’s bow didn’t turn back. Saul’s sword didn’t return empty.
1:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ שָׁא֣וּל וִיהוֹנָתָ֗ן הַנֶּאֱהָבִ֤ים וְהַנְּעִימִם֙ בְּחַיֵּיהֶ֔ם וּבְמוֹתָ֖ם לֹ֣א נִפְרָ֑דוּ מִנְּשָׁרִ֣ים קַ֔לּוּ מֵאֲרָי֖וֹת גָּבֵֽרוּ ׃
Σαουλ καὶ Ιωναθαν οἱ ἠγαπημένοι καὶ ὡραῖοι οὐ διακεχωρισμένοι εὐπρεπεῖς ἐν τῇ ζωῇ αὐτῶν καὶ ἐν τῷ θανάτῳ αὐτῶν οὐ διεχωρίσθησαν ὑπὲρ ἀετοὺς κοῦφοι καὶ ὑπὲρ λέοντας ἐκραταιώθησαν
Saul et Jonathas amabiles , et decori in vita sua , in morte quoque non sunt divisi : aquilis velociores , leonibus fortiores .
ሳኦል ፡ ወዮናታን ፡ ፍቁራን ፡ ወሠናያን ፡ እለ ፡ ፍሉጥ ፡ ሥኖሙ ፡ በሕይወቶሙ ፡ ወበሞቶሙኒ ፡ ኢተሌለዩ ፤ ይቀሉ ፡ እምነ ፡ ንስር ፡ ወይጸንዑ ፡ እምነ ፡ አንበሳ ።
Saul and Jonathan were lovely and pleasant in their lives. In their death, they were not divided. They were swifter than eagles. They were stronger than lions.
1:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ בְּנוֹת֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶל ־שָׁא֖וּל בְּכֶ֑ינָה הַמַּלְבִּֽשְׁכֶ֤ם שָׁנִי֙ עִם ־עֲדָנִ֔ים הַֽמַּעֲלֶה֙ עֲדִ֣י זָהָ֔ב עַ֖ל לְבוּשְׁכֶֽן ׃
θυγατέρες Ισραηλ ἐπὶ Σαουλ κλαύσατε τὸν ἐνδιδύσκοντα ὑμᾶς κόκκινα μετὰ κόσμου ὑμῶν τὸν ἀναφέροντα κόσμον χρυσοῦν ἐπὶ τὰ ἐνδύματα ὑμῶν
Filiae Israël , super Saul flete , qui vestiebat vos coccino in deliciis , qui praebebat ornamenta aurea cultui vestro .
አዋልደ ፡ ኢየሩሳሌም ፡ ብክያ ፡ ላዕለ ፡ ሳኦል ፡ ዘአልባሰክን ፡ ለየ ፡ ምስለ ፡ ሰርጕክን ፡ ወአግበረ ፡ ለክን ፡ ሰርጐ ፡ ወርቅ ፡ ላዕለ ፡ ዐራዝክን ።
You daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, who clothed you delicately in scarlet, who put ornaments of gold on your clothing.
1:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ אֵ֚יךְ נָפְל֣וּ גִבֹּרִ֔ים בְּת֖וֹךְ הַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה יְה֣וֹנָתָ֔ן עַל ־בָּמוֹתֶ֖יךָ חָלָֽל ׃
πῶς ἔπεσαν δυνατοὶ ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ πολέμου Ιωναθαν ἐπὶ τὰ ὕψη σου τραυματίας
Quomodo ceciderunt fortes in praelio ? Jonathas in excelsis tuis occisus est ?
እፎ ፡ ከመ ፡ ወድቁ ፡ ጽኑዓን ፡ በመልዕልተ ፡ ቅቱላን ።
How the mighty have fallen in the middle of the battle! Jonathan was slain on your high places.
1:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ צַר ־לִ֣י עָלֶ֗יךָ אָחִי֙ יְה֣וֹנָתָ֔ן נָעַ֥מְתָּ לִּ֖י מְאֹ֑ד נִפְלְאַ֤תָה אַהֲבָֽתְךָ֙ לִ֔י מֵאַהֲבַ֖ת נָשִֽׁים ׃
ἀλγῶ ἐπὶ σοί ἄδελφέ μου Ιωναθαν ὡραιώθης μοι σφόδρα ἐθαυμαστώθη ἡ ἀγάπησίς σου ἐμοὶ ὑπὲρ ἀγάπησιν γυναικῶν
Doleo super te , frater mi Jonatha , decore nimis , et amabilis super amorem mulierum . Sicut mater unicum amat filium suum , ita ego te diligebam .
ሐመምኩ ፡ ላዕሌከ ፡ እኁየ ፡ ዮናታን ሠናይ ፡ አንተ ፡ በኀቤየ ፡ ወፈድፋደ ፡ ጥቀ ፡ በኀቤየ ፡ ፍቅርከ ፡ እምነ ፡ ፍቅረ ፡ አንስት ።
I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan. You have been very pleasant to me. Your love to me was wonderful, surpassing the love of women.
1:27 ⧉ ⤴︎ אֵ֚יךְ נָפְל֣וּ גִבּוֹרִ֔ים וַיֹּאבְד֖וּ כְּלֵ֥י מִלְחָמָֽה ׃ {פ}
πῶς ἔπεσαν δυνατοὶ καὶ ἀπώλοντο σκεύη πολεμικά
Quomodo ceciderunt robusti , et perierunt arma bellica ?
እፎ ፡ ወድቁ ፡ ጽኑዓን ፡ ወተሀጕሉ ፡ ዕደወ ፡ ቀትል ።
How the mighty have fallen, and the weapons of war have perished!”
