11:1
וַיְהִי֩ לִתְשׁוּבַ֨ת הַשָּׁנָ֜ה לְעֵ֣ת׀ צֵ֣את הַמְּלָאכִ֗ים וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח דָּוִ֡ד אֶת־יוֹאָב֩ וְאֶת־עֲבָדָ֨יו עִמּ֜וֹ וְאֶת־כׇּל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל וַיַּשְׁחִ֙תוּ֙ אֶת־בְּנֵ֣י עַמּ֔וֹן וַיָּצֻ֖רוּ עַל־רַבָּ֑ה וְדָוִ֖ד יוֹשֵׁ֥ב בִּירוּשָׁלָֽ͏ִם׃ {ס}
καὶ ἐγένετο ἐπιστρέψαντος τοῦ ἐνιαυτοῦ εἰς τὸν καιρὸν τῆς ἐξοδίας τῶν βασιλέων καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Δαυιδ τὸν Ιωαβ καὶ τοὺς παῖδας αὐτοῦ μετ’ αὐτοῦ καὶ τὸν πάντα Ισραηλ καὶ διέφθειραν τοὺς υἱοὺς Αμμων καὶ διεκάθισαν ἐπὶ Ραββαθ καὶ Δαυιδ ἐκάθισεν ἐν Ιερουσαλημ
Factum est autem, vertente anno, eo tempore quo solent reges ad bella procedere, misit David Joab, et servos suos cum eo, et universum Israël, et vastaverunt filios Ammon, et obsederunt Rabba : David autem remansit in Jerusalem.
ወእምዝ፡ በጺሖ፡ ዓመት፡ አመ፡ መዋዕለ፡ ይወፅኡ፡ ነገሥት፡ ወፈነዎሙ፡ ዳዊት፡ ለኢዮአብ፡ ወለደቂቁ፡ ወለኵሉ፡ እስራኤል፡ ወቀተልዎሙ፡ ለደቂቀ፡ ዐሞን፡ ወነበሩ፡ ውስተ፡ ራባት፡ ወዳዊትሰ፡ ነበረ፡ ውስተ፡ ኢየሩሳሌም።
At the return of the year, at the time when kings go out, David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem.
11:2
וַיְהִ֣י׀ לְעֵ֣ת הָעֶ֗רֶב וַיָּ֨קׇם דָּוִ֜ד מֵעַ֤ל מִשְׁכָּבוֹ֙ וַיִּתְהַלֵּךְ֙ עַל־גַּ֣ג בֵּית־הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וַיַּ֥רְא אִשָּׁ֛ה רֹחֶ֖צֶת מֵעַ֣ל הַגָּ֑ג וְהָ֣אִשָּׁ֔ה טוֹבַ֥ת מַרְאֶ֖ה מְאֹֽד׃
καὶ ἐγένετο πρὸς ἑσπέραν καὶ ἀνέστη Δαυιδ ἀπὸ τῆς κοίτης αὐτοῦ καὶ περιεπάτει ἐπὶ τοῦ δώματος τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ εἶδεν γυναῖκα λουομένην ἀπὸ τοῦ δώματος καὶ ἡ γυνὴ καλὴ τῷ εἴδει σφόδρα
Dum haec agerentur, accidit ut surgeret David de strato suo post meridiem, et deambularet in solario domus regiae : viditque mulierem se lavantem ex adverso super solarium suum : erat autem mulier pulchra valde.
ወሶበ፡ ኮነ፡ ፍና፡ ሰርክ፡ ተንሥአ፡ ዳዊት፡ እምስካቡ፡ ወዐርገ፡ ውስተ፡ ናሕስ፡ ቤተ፡ ንጉሥ፡ ያንሶሱ፡ ወርእየ፡ ብእሲተ፡ በላዕለ፡ ናሕስ፡ እንዘ፡ ትትሐፀብ፡ ወሠናይት፡ ይእቲ፡ ብእሲት፡ ወፈድፋደ፡ ራእያ።
At evening, David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. From the roof, he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to look at.
11:3
וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח דָּוִ֔ד וַיִּדְרֹ֖שׁ לָאִשָּׁ֑ה וַיֹּ֗אמֶר הֲלוֹא־זֹאת֙ בַּת־שֶׁ֣בַע בַּת־אֱלִיעָ֔ם אֵ֖שֶׁת אוּרִיָּ֥ה הַֽחִתִּֽי׃
καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Δαυιδ καὶ ἐζήτησεν τὴν γυναῖκα καὶ εἶπεν οὐχὶ αὕτη Βηρσαβεε θυγάτηρ Ελιαβ γυνὴ Ουριου τοῦ Χετταίου
Misit ergo rex, et requisivit quae esset mulier. Nuntiatumque est ei quod ipsa esset Bethsabee filia Eliam, uxor Uriae Hethaei.
ወለአከ፡ ዳዊት፡ ኀቤሃ፡ ወይቤ፡ አኮኑ፡ ኬርሳቤኅ፡ ይእቲ፡ ወለተ፡ ኤልያብ፡ ኬጥያዊ፡ ወኦርዮስ፡ ምታ።
David sent and inquired after the woman. One said, “Isn’t this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, Uriah the Hittite’s wife?”
11:4
וַיִּשְׁלַח֩ דָּוִ֨ד מַלְאָכִ֜ים וַיִּקָּחֶ֗הָ וַתָּב֤וֹא אֵלָיו֙ וַיִּשְׁכַּ֣ב עִמָּ֔הּ וְהִ֥יא מִתְקַדֶּ֖שֶׁת מִטֻּמְאָתָ֑הּ וַתָּ֖שׇׁב אֶל־בֵּיתָֽהּ׃
καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Δαυιδ ἀγγέλους καὶ ἔλαβεν αὐτήν καὶ εἰσῆλθεν πρὸς αὐτόν καὶ ἐκοιμήθη μετ’ αὐτῆς καὶ αὐτὴ ἁγιαζομένη ἀπὸ ἀκαθαρσίας αὐτῆς καὶ ἀπέστρεψεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτῆς
Missis itaque David nuntiis, tulit eam : quae cum ingressa esset ad illum, dormivit cum ea : statimque sanctificata est ab immunditia sua,
ወለአከ፡ ዳዊት፡ ኀቤሃ፡ ወነሥኣ፡ ወሰከበ፡ ምስሌሃ፡ ወይእቲሰ፡ በከመ፡ ተሐፅበት፡ እምነ፡ ትክቶሃ፡ ወአተወት፡ ቤታ።
David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in to him, and he lay with her (for she was purified from her uncleanness); and she returned to her house.
11:5
וַתַּ֖הַר הָאִשָּׁ֑ה וַתִּשְׁלַח֙ וַתַּגֵּ֣ד לְדָוִ֔ד וַתֹּ֖אמֶר הָרָ֥ה אָנֹֽכִי׃
καὶ ἐν γαστρὶ ἔλαβεν ἡ γυνή καὶ ἀποστείλασα ἀπήγγειλεν τῷ Δαυιδ καὶ εἶπεν ἐγώ εἰμι ἐν γαστρὶ ἔχω
et reversa est domum suam concepto foetu. Mittensque nuntiavit David, et ait : Concepi.
ወፀንሰት፡ ይእቲ፡ ብእሲት፡ ወአይድዕዎ፡ ለዳዊት፡ ወትቤ፡ ፀነስኩ፡ አንሰ።
The woman conceived; and she sent and told David, and said, “I am with child.”
11:6
וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח דָּוִד֙ אֶל־יוֹאָ֔ב שְׁלַ֣ח אֵלַ֔י אֶת־אוּרִיָּ֖ה הַחִתִּ֑י וַיִּשְׁלַ֥ח יוֹאָ֛ב אֶת־אוּרִיָּ֖ה אֶל־דָּוִֽד׃
καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Δαυιδ πρὸς Ιωαβ λέγων ἀπόστειλον πρός με τὸν Ουριαν τὸν Χετταῖον καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Ιωαβ τὸν Ουριαν πρὸς Δαυιδ
Misit autem David ad Joab, dicens : Mitte ad me Uriam Hethaeum. Misitque Joab Uriam ad David.
ወለአከ፡ ዳዊት፡ ኀበ፡ ኢዮአብ፡ እንዘ፡ ይብል፡ ፈንዎአ፡ ለኦርዮስእ፡ ኀቤየ፡ ወፈነዎ፡ ኢዮአብ፡ ለኦርዮስ፡ ኬጥያዊ፡ ኀበ፡ ዳዊት።
David sent to Joab, “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” Joab sent Uriah to David.
11:7
וַיָּבֹ֥א אוּרִיָּ֖ה אֵלָ֑יו וַיִּשְׁאַ֣ל דָּוִ֗ד לִשְׁל֤וֹם יוֹאָב֙ וְלִשְׁל֣וֹם הָעָ֔ם וְלִשְׁל֖וֹם הַמִּלְחָמָֽה׃
καὶ παραγίνεται Ουριας καὶ εἰσῆλθεν πρὸς αὐτόν καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν Δαυιδ εἰς εἰρήνην Ιωαβ καὶ εἰς εἰρήνην τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ εἰς εἰρήνην τοῦ πολέμου
Et venit Urias ad David. Quaesivitque David quam recte ageret Joab et populus, et quomodo administraretur bellum.
ወበጽሐ፡ ኦርዮስ፡ ወቦአ፡ ኀቤሁ፡ ወተስእሎ፡ ዳዊት፡ በእንተ፡ ዳኅናሁ፡ ለኢዮአብ፡ ወበእንተ፡ ዳኅና፡ ሕዝብ፡ ወበእንተ፡ ዳኅና፡ ፀብእ።
When Uriah had come to him, David asked him how Joab did, and how the people fared, and how the war prospered.
11:8
וַיֹּ֤אמֶר דָּוִד֙ לְא֣וּרִיָּ֔ה רֵ֥ד לְבֵיתְךָ֖ וּרְחַ֣ץ רַגְלֶ֑יךָ וַיֵּצֵ֤א אֽוּרִיָּה֙ מִבֵּ֣ית הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וַתֵּצֵ֥א אַחֲרָ֖יו מַשְׂאַ֥ת הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃
καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ τῷ Ουρια κατάβηθι εἰς τὸν οἶκόν σου καὶ νίψαι τοὺς πόδας σου καὶ ἐξῆλθεν Ουριας ἐξ οἴκου τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ ἄρσις τοῦ βασιλέως
Et dixit David ad Uriam : Vade in domum tuam, et lava pedes tuos. Et egressus est Urias de domo regis, secutusque est eum cibus regius.
ወይቤሎ፡ ዳዊት፡ ለኦርዮስ፡ ሖር፡ ረድ፡ ውስተ፡ ቤትከ፡ ወተሐፀብ፡ እገሪከ፡ ወወፅአ፡ ኦርዮስ፡ እምነ፡ ቤተ፡ ንጉሥ፡ ወወፂእ፡ ተለዎ፡ ወዓሌ፡ ንጉሥ።
David said to Uriah, “Go down to your house and wash your feet.” Uriah departed out of the king’s house, and a gift from the king was sent after him.
11:9
וַיִּשְׁכַּ֣ב אוּרִיָּ֗ה פֶּ֚תַח בֵּ֣ית הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ אֵ֖ת כׇּל־עַבְדֵ֣י אֲדֹנָ֑יו וְלֹ֥א יָרַ֖ד אֶל־בֵּיתֽוֹ׃
καὶ ἐκοιμήθη Ουριας παρὰ τῇ θύρᾳ τοῦ βασιλέως μετὰ τῶν δούλων τοῦ κυρίου αὐτοῦ καὶ οὐ κατέβη εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ
Dormivit autem Urias ante portam domus regiae cum aliis servis domini sui, et non descendit ad domum suam.
ወቤተ፡ ኦርዮስ፡ ዴዴ፡ ቤተ፡ ንጉሥ፡ ምስለ፡ አግብርተ፡ እግዚኡ፡ ወኢወረደ፡ ቤቶ።
But Uriah slept at the door of the king’s house with all the servants of his lord, and didn’t go down to his house.
11:10
וַיַּגִּ֤דוּ לְדָוִד֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר לֹא־יָרַ֥ד אוּרִיָּ֖ה אֶל־בֵּית֑וֹ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר דָּוִ֜ד אֶל־אוּרִיָּ֗ה הֲל֤וֹא מִדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ אַתָּ֣ה בָ֔א מַדּ֖וּעַ לֹא־יָרַ֥דְתָּ אֶל־בֵּיתֶֽךָ׃
καὶ ἀνήγγειλαν τῷ Δαυιδ λέγοντες ὅτι οὐ κατέβη Ουριας εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ πρὸς Ουριαν οὐχὶ ἐξ ὁδοῦ σὺ ἔρχῃ τί ὅτι οὐ κατέβης εἰς τὸν οἶκόν σου
Nuntiatumque est David a dicentibus : Non ivit Urias in domum suam. Et ait David ad Uriam : Numquid non de via venisti ? quare non descendisti in domum tuam ?
ወይቤሎ፡ ዳዊት፡ ለኦርዮስ፡ አኮኑ፡ እምነ፡ ሐቅል፡ መጻእከ፡ ወለምንት፡ ኢወረድከ፡ ውስተ፡ ቤትከ።
When they had told David, saying, “Uriah didn’t go down to his house,” David said to Uriah, “Haven’t you come from a journey? Why didn’t you go down to your house?”
11:11
וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אוּרִיָּ֜ה אֶל־דָּוִ֗ד הָ֠אָר֠וֹן וְיִשְׂרָאֵ֨ל וִיהוּדָ֜ה יֹשְׁבִ֣ים בַּסֻּכּ֗וֹת וַאדֹנִ֨י יוֹאָ֜ב וְעַבְדֵ֤י אֲדֹנִי֙ עַל־פְּנֵ֤י הַשָּׂדֶה֙ חֹנִ֔ים וַאֲנִ֞י אָב֧וֹא אֶל־בֵּיתִ֛י לֶאֱכֹ֥ל וְלִשְׁתּ֖וֹת וְלִשְׁכַּ֣ב עִם־אִשְׁתִּ֑י חַיֶּ֙ךָ֙ וְחֵ֣י נַפְשֶׁ֔ךָ אִֽם־אֶעֱשֶׂ֖ה אֶת־הַדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּֽה׃
καὶ εἶπεν Ουριας πρὸς Δαυιδ ἡ κιβωτὸς καὶ Ισραηλ καὶ Ιουδας κατοικοῦσιν ἐν σκηναῖς καὶ ὁ κύριός μου Ιωαβ καὶ οἱ δοῦλοι τοῦ κυρίου μου ἐπὶ πρόσωπον τοῦ ἀγροῦ παρεμβάλλουσιν καὶ ἐγὼ εἰσελεύσομαι εἰς τὸν οἶκόν μου φαγεῖν καὶ πιεῖν καὶ κοιμηθῆναι μετὰ τῆς γυναικός μου πῶς ζῇ ἡ ψυχή σου εἰ ποιήσω τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο
Et ait Urias ad David : Arca Dei et Israël et Juda habitant in papilionibus, et dominus meus Joab et servi domini mei super faciem terrae manent : et ego ingrediar domum meam, ut comedam et bibam, et dormiam cum uxore mea ? Per salutem tuam, et per salutem animae tuae, non faciam rem hanc.
ወይቤሎ፡ ኦርዮስ፡ ለዳዊት፡ ታቦተ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወእስራኤል፡ ወይሁዳ፡ ይነብሩ፡ ውስተ፡ ደባትር፡ ወኢዮአብ፡ እግዚእየ፡ ወአግብርተ፡ እግዚእየ፡ ውስተ፡ ገጸ፡ ምድር፡ ይትዐየኑ፡ ወአንሰ፡ እበውእ፡ ውስተ፡ ቤትየ፡ ከመ፡ እብላዕ፡ ወእስተይ፡ ወከመ፡ እስክብ፡ ምስለ፡ ብእሲትየ ፤ እፎኑ፡ ዝንቱ ፤ ሕያው፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወሕያው፡ ነፍስከ፡ ከመ፡ ኢይንብሮ፡ ለዝንቱ፡ ነገር።
Uriah said to David, “The ark, Israel, and Judah, are staying in tents; and my lord Joab and the servants of my lord are encamped in the open field. Shall I then go into my house to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing!”
11:12
וַיֹּ֨אמֶר דָּוִ֜ד אֶל־אוּרִיָּ֗ה שֵׁ֥ב בָּזֶ֛ה גַּם־הַיּ֖וֹם וּמָחָ֣ר אֲשַׁלְּחֶ֑ךָּ וַיֵּ֨שֶׁב אוּרִיָּ֧ה בִירוּשָׁלַ֛͏ִם בַּיּ֥וֹם הַה֖וּא וּמִֽמׇּחֳרָֽת׃
καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ πρὸς Ουριαν κάθισον ἐνταῦθα καί γε σήμερον καὶ αὔριον ἐξαποστελῶ σε καὶ ἐκάθισεν Ουριας ἐν Ιερουσαλημ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ καὶ τῇ ἐπαύριον
Ait ergo David ad Uriam : Mane hic etiam hodie, et cras dimittam te. Mansit Urias in Jerusalem in die illa et altera :
ወይቤሎ፡ ዳዊት፡ ለኦርዮ፡ ንበር፡ ዝየ፡ ዮም፡ ወጌሠመ፡ እፌንወከ፡ ወነበረ፡ ኦርዮ፡ ውስተ፡ ኢየሩሳሌም፡ ይእተ፡ አሚረ።
David said to Uriah, “Stay here today also, and tomorrow I will let you depart.” So Uriah stayed in Jerusalem that day and the next day.
11:13
וַיִּקְרָא־ל֣וֹ דָוִ֗ד וַיֹּ֧אכַל לְפָנָ֛יו וַיֵּ֖שְׁתְּ וַֽיְשַׁכְּרֵ֑הוּ וַיֵּצֵ֣א בָעֶ֗רֶב לִשְׁכַּ֤ב בְּמִשְׁכָּבוֹ֙ עִם־עַבְדֵ֣י אֲדֹנָ֔יו וְאֶל־בֵּית֖וֹ לֹ֥א יָרָֽד׃
καὶ ἐκάλεσεν αὐτὸν Δαυιδ καὶ ἔφαγεν ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔπιεν καὶ ἐμέθυσεν αὐτόν καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἑσπέρας τοῦ κοιμηθῆναι ἐπὶ τῆς κοίτης αὐτοῦ μετὰ τῶν δούλων τοῦ κυρίου αὐτοῦ καὶ εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ οὐ κατέβη
et vocavit eum David ut comederet coram se et biberet, et inebriavit eum : qui egressus vespere, dormivit in strato suo cum servis domini sui, et in domum suam non descendit.
ወጸውዖ፡ ዳዊት፡ ወበልዐ፡ ወሰትየ፡ በቅድሜሁ፡ ወአስከሮ፡ ወወፅአ፡ ሰርከ፡ ከመ፡ ይስክብ፡ ውስተ፡ ዐራቱ፡ ምስለ፡ አግብርተ፡ እግዚኡ፡ ወኢወረደ፡ ቤቶ።
When David had called him, he ate and drank before him; and he made him drunk. At evening, he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but didn’t go down to his house.
11:14
וַיְהִ֣י בַבֹּ֔קֶר וַיִּכְתֹּ֥ב דָּוִ֛ד סֵ֖פֶר אֶל־יוֹאָ֑ב וַיִּשְׁלַ֖ח בְּיַ֥ד אוּרִיָּֽה׃
καὶ ἐγένετο πρωὶ καὶ ἔγραψεν Δαυιδ βιβλίον πρὸς Ιωαβ καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ἐν χειρὶ Ουριου
Factum est ergo mane, et scripsit David epistolam ad Joab : misitque per manum Uriae,
ወሶበ፡ ጸብሐ፡ ጸሐፈ፡ ዳዊት፡ መጽሐፈ፡ ኀበ፡ ኢዮአብ፡ ወፈነወ፡ ምስለ፡ ኦርዮ።
In the morning, David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it by the hand of Uriah.
11:15
וַיִּכְתֹּ֥ב בַּסֵּ֖פֶר לֵאמֹ֑ר הָב֣וּ אֶת־אוּרִיָּ֗ה אֶל־מוּל֙ פְּנֵ֤י הַמִּלְחָמָה֙ הַחֲזָקָ֔ה וְשַׁבְתֶּ֥ם מֵאַחֲרָ֖יו וְנִכָּ֥ה וָמֵֽת׃ {ס}
καὶ ἔγραψεν ἐν τῷ βιβλίῳ λέγων εἰσάγαγε τὸν Ουριαν ἐξ ἐναντίας τοῦ πολέμου τοῦ κραταιοῦ καὶ ἀποστραφήσεσθε ἀπὸ ὄπισθεν αὐτοῦ καὶ πληγήσεται καὶ ἀποθανεῖται
scribens in epistola : Ponite Uriam ex adverso belli, ubi fortissimum est praelium : et derelinquite eum, ut percussus intereat.
ወጸሐፈ፡ ውስተ፡ መጽሐፍ፡ እንዘ፡ ይብል፡ አብእዎአ፡ ለኦርዮ፡ ኀበ፡ ጽኑዕ፡ ቀትልአ፡ ፍጽመአ፡ ወተመየጡአ፡ ወኅድግዎአ፡ ያቍስልዎአ፡ ወይሙትአ።
He wrote in the letter, saying, “Send Uriah to the forefront of the hottest battle, and retreat from him, that he may be struck and die.”
11:16
וַיְהִ֕י בִּשְׁמ֥וֹר יוֹאָ֖ב אֶל־הָעִ֑יר וַיִּתֵּן֙ אֶת־א֣וּרִיָּ֔ה אֶל־הַמָּקוֹם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יָדַ֔ע כִּ֥י אַנְשֵׁי־חַ֖יִל שָֽׁם׃
καὶ ἐγενήθη ἐν τῷ φυλάσσειν Ιωαβ ἐπὶ τὴν πόλιν καὶ ἔθηκεν τὸν Ουριαν εἰς τὸν τόπον οὗ ᾔδει ὅτι ἄνδρες δυνάμεως ἐκεῖ
Igitur cum Joab obsideret urbem, posuit Uriam in loco ubi sciebat viros esse fortissimos.
ወእምዝ፡ እንዘ፡ የዐቅባ፡ ኢዮአብ፡ ለሀገር፡ ወሰድዎ፡ ለኦርዮ፡ ውስተ፡ መካን፡ ኀበ፡ ያአምር፡ ከመ፡ ሀለዉ፡ ዕደው፡ ጽኑዓን፡ ህየ።
When Joab kept watch on the city, he assigned Uriah to the place where he knew that valiant men were.
11:17
וַיֵּ֨צְא֜וּ אַנְשֵׁ֤י הָעִיר֙ וַיִּלָּחֲמ֣וּ אֶת־יוֹאָ֔ב וַיִּפֹּ֥ל מִן־הָעָ֖ם מֵעַבְדֵ֣י דָוִ֑ד וַיָּ֕מׇת גַּ֖ם אוּרִיָּ֥ה הַחִתִּֽי׃
καὶ ἐξῆλθον οἱ ἄνδρες τῆς πόλεως καὶ ἐπολέμουν μετὰ Ιωαβ καὶ ἔπεσαν ἐκ τοῦ λαοῦ ἐκ τῶν δούλων Δαυιδ καὶ ἀπέθανεν καί γε Ουριας ὁ Χετταῖος
Egressique viri de civitate, bellabant adversum Joab, et ceciderunt de populo servorum David, et mortuus est etiam Urias Hethaeus.
ወወፅኡ፡ ሰብአ፡ ሀገር፡ ከመ፡ ይትቃተሉ፡ ምስለ፡ ኢዮአብ፡ ወወድቁ፡ እምነ፡ ሰብኡ፡ ለዳዊት፡ ወሞተ፡ ኦርዮኒ፡ ኬጥያዊ።
The men of the city went out and fought with Joab. Some of the people fell, even of David’s servants; and Uriah the Hittite died also.
11:18
וַיִּשְׁלַ֖ח יוֹאָ֑ב וַיַּגֵּ֣ד לְדָוִ֔ד אֶת־כׇּל־דִּבְרֵ֖י הַמִּלְחָמָֽה׃
καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Ιωαβ καὶ ἀπήγγειλεν τῷ βασιλεῖ πάντας τοὺς λόγους τοῦ πολέμου
Misit itaque Joab, et nuntiavit David omnia verba praelii :
ወፈነወ፡ ኢዮአብ፡ ይዜንውዎ፡ ለንጉሥ፡ ኵሎ፡ ዜና፡ ፀብእ፡ ይንግርዎ፡ ለንጉሥ ፤
Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;
11:19
וַיְצַ֥ו אֶת־הַמַּלְאָ֖ךְ לֵאמֹ֑ר כְּכַלּוֹתְךָ֗ אֵ֛ת כׇּל־דִּבְרֵ֥י הַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה לְדַבֵּ֥ר אֶל־הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃
καὶ ἐνετείλατο τῷ ἀγγέλῳ λέγων ἐν τῷ συντελέσαι σε πάντας τοὺς λόγους τοῦ πολέμου λαλῆσαι πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα
praecepitque nuntio, dicens : Cum compleveris universos sermones belli ad regem,

and he commanded the messenger, saying, “When you have finished telling all the things concerning the war to the king,
11:20
וְהָיָ֗ה אִֽם־תַּעֲלֶה֙ חֲמַ֣ת הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וְאָמַ֣ר לְךָ֔ מַדּ֛וּעַ נִגַּשְׁתֶּ֥ם אֶל־הָעִ֖יר לְהִלָּחֵ֑ם הֲל֣וֹא יְדַעְתֶּ֔ם אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־יֹר֖וּ מֵעַ֥ל הַחוֹמָֽה׃
καὶ ἔσται ἐὰν ἀναβῇ ὁ θυμὸς τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ εἴπῃ σοι τί ὅτι ἠγγίσατε πρὸς τὴν πόλιν πολεμῆσαι οὐκ ᾔδειτε ὅτι τοξεύσουσιν ἀπάνωθεν τοῦ τείχους
si eum videris indignari, et dixerit : Quare accessistis ad murum, ut praeliaremini ? an ignorabatis quod multa desuper ex muro tela mittantur ?
ወይቤ፡ እመ፡ ተምዕዐ፡ ንጉሥ፡ ወይቤ፡ ለምንት፡ ቀረብክሙ፡ ኀበ፡ ሀገር፡ ትትቃተሉ፡ ኢታአምሩኑ፡ ከመ፡ ይነድፉ፡ እምኀበ፡ አረፍት።
it shall be that, if the king’s wrath arise, and he asks you, ‘Why did you go so near to the city to fight? Didn’t you know that they would shoot from the wall?
11:21
מִֽי־הִכָּ֞ה אֶת־אֲבִימֶ֣לֶךְ בֶּן־יְרֻבֶּ֗שֶׁת הֲלֽוֹא־אִשָּׁ֡ה הִשְׁלִ֣יכָה עָלָיו֩ פֶּ֨לַח רֶ֜כֶב מֵעַ֤ל הַחוֹמָה֙ וַיָּ֣מׇת בְּתֵבֵ֔ץ לָ֥מָּה נִגַּשְׁתֶּ֖ם אֶל־הַחוֹמָ֑ה וְאָ֣מַרְתָּ֔ גַּ֗ם עַבְדְּךָ֛ אוּרִיָּ֥ה הַחִתִּ֖י מֵֽת׃
τίς ἐπάταξεν τὸν Αβιμελεχ υἱὸν Ιεροβααλ οὐχὶ γυνὴ ἔρριψεν ἐπ’ αὐτὸν κλάσμα μύλου ἐπάνωθεν τοῦ τείχους καὶ ἀπέθανεν ἐν Θαμασι ἵνα τί προσηγάγετε πρὸς τὸ τεῖχος καὶ ἐρεῖς καί γε Ουριας ὁ δοῦλός σου ὁ Χετταῖος ἀπέθανεν
Quis percussit Abimelech filium Jerobaal ? nonne mulier misit super eum fragmen molae de muro, et interfecit eum in Thebes ? quare juxta murum accessistis ? dices : Etiam servus tuus Urias Hethaeus occubuit.
መኑ፡ ቀተሎ፡ ለአበሜሌክ፡ ወልደ፡ ኢዮርብዓም፡ ወልደ፡ ኔር፡ አኮኑ፡ ብእሲት፡ ወገረት፡ ስባረ፡ ማኅረፅ፡ ላዕሌሁ፡ እምነ፡ መልዕልተ፡ አረፍት፡ ወሞተ፡ በቴምናስ ፤ ለምንት፡ ቀረብክሙ፡ ኀበ፡ አረፍት ፤ ወትብሎ፡ ገብርከኒ፡ ኦርዮ፡ ኬጥያዊ፡ ሞተ።
Who struck Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? Didn’t a woman cast an upper millstone on him from the wall, so that he died at Thebez? Why did you go so near the wall?’ then you shall say, ‘Your servant Uriah the Hittite is also dead.’”
11:22
וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ הַמַּלְאָ֑ךְ וַיָּבֹא֙ וַיַּגֵּ֣ד לְדָוִ֔ד אֵ֛ת כׇּל־אֲשֶׁ֥ר שְׁלָח֖וֹ יוֹאָֽב׃
καὶ ἐπορεύθη ὁ ἄγγελος Ιωαβ πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα εἰς Ιερουσαλημ καὶ παρεγένετο καὶ ἀπήγγειλεν τῷ Δαυιδ πάντα ὅσα ἀπήγγειλεν αὐτῷ Ιωαβ πάντα τὰ ῥήματα τοῦ πολέμου καὶ ἐθυμώθη Δαυιδ πρὸς Ιωαβ καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς τὸν ἄγγελον ἵνα τί προσηγάγετε πρὸς τὴν πόλιν τοῦ πολεμῆσαι οὐκ ᾔδειτε ὅτι πληγήσεσθε ἀπὸ τοῦ τείχους τίς ἐπάταξεν τὸν Αβιμελεχ υἱὸν Ιεροβααλ οὐχὶ γυνὴ ἔρριψεν ἐπ’ αὐτὸν κλάσμα μύλου ἀπὸ τοῦ τείχους καὶ ἀπέθανεν ἐν Θαμασι ἵνα τί προσηγάγετε πρὸς τὸ τεῖχος
Abiit ergo nuntius, et venit, et narravit David omnia quae ei praeceperat Joab.
ወሖረ፡ ሐዋርያሁ፡ ለኢዮአብ፡ ኀበ፡ ንጉሥ፡ ውስተ፡ ኢየሩሳሌም፡ ወበጽሐ፡ ወዜነዎ፡ ለዳዊት፡ ኵሎ፡ ዘከመ፡ ይቤሎ፡ ኢዮአብ፡ ኵሎ፡ ዜና፡ ፀብእ፡ ወተምዐ፡ ዳዊት፡ ላዕለ፡ ኢዮአብ፡ ወይቤሎ፡ ለውእቱ፡ ሐዋርያ፡ ለምንት፡ በጻሕክሙ፡ ኀበ፡ አረፍተ፡ ሀገር፡ ትትቃተሉ፡ ኢታአምሩኑ፡ ከመ፡ ትቈስሉ፡ እምነ፡ አረፍት፡ መኑ፡ ቀተሎ፡ ለአበሜሌክ፡ ወልደ፡ ኤርብዓም፡ አኮኑ፡ ብእሲት፡ ወገረት፡ ላዕሌሁ፡ ስባረ፡ ማኅረጽ፡ እምላዕለ፡ አረፍት፡ ወሞተ፡ በተምናስ፡ ለምንት፡ በጻሕክሙ፡ አረፍተ።
So the messenger went, and came and showed David all that Joab had sent him for.
11:23
וַיֹּ֤אמֶר הַמַּלְאָךְ֙ אֶל־דָּוִ֔ד כִּֽי־גָבְר֤וּ עָלֵ֙ינוּ֙ הָאֲנָשִׁ֔ים וַיֵּצְא֥וּ אֵלֵ֖ינוּ הַשָּׂדֶ֑ה וַנִּהְיֶ֥ה עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם עַד־פֶּ֥תַח הַשָּֽׁעַר׃
καὶ εἶπεν ὁ ἄγγελος πρὸς Δαυιδ ὅτι ἐκραταίωσαν ἐφ’ ἡμᾶς οἱ ἄνδρες καὶ ἐξῆλθαν ἐφ’ ἡμᾶς εἰς τὸν ἀγρόν καὶ ἐγενήθημεν ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς ἕως τῆς θύρας τῆς πύλης
Et dixit nuntius ad David : Praevaluerunt adversum nos viri, et egressi sunt ad nos in agrum : nos autem facto impetu persecuti eos sumus usque ad portam civitatis.
ወይቤሎ፡ ውእቱ፡ ሐዋርያ፡ ለዳዊት፡ ሶበ፡ ኀየሉነ፡ ወዴገኑነ፡ እሙንቱ፡ ዕደው፡ እስከ፡ ገዳም፡ አውጽኡነ፡ ወእምዝ፡ ተመየጥናሆሙ፡ ወሰደድናሆሙ፡ እስከ፡ ኆኅተ፡ አንቀጽ።
The messenger said to David, “The men prevailed against us, and came out to us into the field; and we were on them even to the entrance of the gate.
11:24
וַיֹּר֨אוּ הַמּוֹרִ֤אים אֶל־עֲבָדֶ֙יךָ֙ מֵעַ֣ל הַחוֹמָ֔ה וַיָּמ֖וּתוּ מֵעַבְדֵ֣י הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וְגַ֗ם עַבְדְּךָ֛ אוּרִיָּ֥ה הַחִתִּ֖י מֵֽת׃ {ס}
καὶ ἐτόξευσαν οἱ τοξεύοντες πρὸς τοὺς παῖδάς σου ἀπάνωθεν τοῦ τείχους καὶ ἀπέθαναν τῶν παίδων τοῦ βασιλέως καί γε ὁ δοῦλός σου Ουριας ὁ Χετταῖος ἀπέθανεν
Et direxerunt jacula sagittarii ad servos tuos ex muro desuper, mortuique sunt de servis regis : quin etiam servus tuus Urias Hethaeus mortuus est.
ወነደፉ፡ ሰብአ፡ ሐጽ፡ ላዕለ፡ ደቅከ፡ እመልዕልተ፡ አረፍት፡ ወሞቱ፡ እምውስተ፡ ደቁ፡ ለንጉሥ፡ ወገብርከኒ፡ ኦርዮስ፡ ኬጥያዊ፡ ሞተ።
The shooters shot at your servants from off the wall; and some of the king’s servants are dead, and your servant Uriah the Hittite is also dead.”
11:25
וַיֹּ֨אמֶר דָּוִ֜ד אֶל־הַמַּלְאָ֗ךְ כֹּֽה־תֹאמַ֤ר אֶל־יוֹאָב֙ אַל־יֵרַ֤ע בְּעֵינֶ֙יךָ֙ אֶת־הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה כִּֽי־כָזֹ֥ה וְכָזֶ֖ה תֹּאכַ֣ל הֶחָ֑רֶב הַחֲזֵ֨ק מִלְחַמְתְּךָ֧ אֶל־הָעִ֛יר וְהׇרְסָ֖הּ וְחַזְּקֵֽהוּ׃
καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ πρὸς τὸν ἄγγελον τάδε ἐρεῖς πρὸς Ιωαβ μὴ πονηρὸν ἔστω ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς σου τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο ὅτι ποτὲ μὲν οὕτως καὶ ποτὲ οὕτως φάγεται ἡ μάχαιρα κραταίωσον τὸν πόλεμόν σου πρὸς τὴν πόλιν καὶ κατάσπασον αὐτὴν καὶ κραταίωσον αὐτόν
Et dixit David ad nuntium : Haec dices Joab : Non te frangat ista res : varius enim eventus est belli, nunc hunc, et nunc illum consumit gladius : conforta bellatores tuos adversus urbem ut destruas eam, et exhortare eos.
ወይቤሎ፡ ዳዊት፡ ለውእቱ፡ ሐዋርያ፡ ከመዝ፡ በሎ፡ ለኢዮአብ፡ ኢይዕፀብከአ፡ ዝንቱአ፡ ነገር፡ ቅድመ፡ አዕይንቲከአ፡ እስመአ፡ ከመዝአ፡ ውእቱአ፡ ቦአመአ፡ ከማሁአ፡ ወቦአመአ፡ ከመዝአ፡ ትበልዕአ፡ መጥባሕትአ፡ ወአጽንዕአ፡ አንተሰአ፡ ተቃትሎአ፡ ምስለአ፡ ሀገርአ፡ ወአስተጋብእአ፡ ወአጽንዕአ።
Then David said to the messenger, “Tell Joab, ‘Don’t let this thing displease you, for the sword devours one as well as another. Make your battle stronger against the city, and overthrow it.’ Encourage him.”
11:26
וַתִּשְׁמַע֙ אֵ֣שֶׁת אוּרִיָּ֔ה כִּי־מֵ֖ת אוּרִיָּ֣ה אִישָׁ֑הּ וַתִּסְפֹּ֖ד עַל־בַּעְלָֽהּ׃
καὶ ἤκουσεν ἡ γυνὴ Ουριου ὅτι ἀπέθανεν Ουριας ὁ ἀνὴρ αὐτῆς καὶ ἐκόψατο τὸν ἄνδρα αὐτῆς
Audivit autem uxor Uriae quod mortuus esset Urias vir suus, et planxit eum.
ወሰምዐት፡ ብእሲቱ፡ ለኦርዮስ፡ ከመ፡ ሞተ፡ ኦርዮስ፡ ወበከየቶ፡ ለምታ።
When Uriah’s wife heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband.
11:27
וַיַּעֲבֹ֣ר הָאֵ֗בֶל וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח דָּוִ֜ד וַיַּאַסְפָ֤הּ אֶל־בֵּיתוֹ֙ וַתְּהִי־ל֣וֹ לְאִשָּׁ֔ה וַתֵּ֥לֶד ל֖וֹ בֵּ֑ן וַיֵּ֧רַע הַדָּבָ֛ר אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֥ה דָוִ֖ד בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהֹוָֽה׃ {פ}
καὶ διῆλθεν τὸ πένθος καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Δαυιδ καὶ συνήγαγεν αὐτὴν εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐγενήθη αὐτῷ εἰς γυναῖκα καὶ ἔτεκεν αὐτῷ υἱόν καὶ πονηρὸν ἐφάνη τὸ ῥῆμα ὃ ἐποίησεν Δαυιδ ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς κυρίου
Transacto autem luctu, misit David, et introduxit eam in domum suam, et facta est ei uxor, peperitque ei filium : et displicuit verbum hoc quod fecerat David, coram Domino.
ወእምዝ፡ ሶበ፡ ኀለፈ፡ ላሓ፡ ለአከ፡ ላቲ፡ ዳዊት፡ ወነሥኣ፡ ወአእተዋ፡ ቤቶ፡ ወአውሰባ፡ ወኮነቶ፡ ብእሲቶ፡ ወወለደት፡ ሎቱ፡ ወልደ ፤ ወኮነ፡ እኩየ፡ ዝንቱ፡ ነገር፡ ዘገብረ፡ ዳዊት፡ በቅድመ፡ አዕይንቲሁ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር።
When the mourning was past, David sent and took her home to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased Yahweh.
