12:1
וַיִּשְׁלַ֧ח יְהֹוָ֛ה אֶת־נָתָ֖ן אֶל־דָּוִ֑ד וַיָּבֹ֣א אֵלָ֗יו וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לוֹ֙ שְׁנֵ֣י אֲנָשִׁ֗ים הָיוּ֙ בְּעִ֣יר אֶחָ֔ת אֶחָ֥ד עָשִׁ֖יר וְאֶחָ֥ד רָֽאשׁ׃
καὶ ἀπέστειλεν κύριος τὸν Ναθαν τὸν προφήτην πρὸς Δαυιδ καὶ εἰσῆλθεν πρὸς αὐτὸν καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ δύο ἦσαν ἄνδρες ἐν πόλει μιᾷ εἷς πλούσιος καὶ εἷς πένης
Misit ergo Dominus Nathan ad David : qui cum venisset ad eum, dixit ei : Duo viri erant in civitate una, unus dives, et alter pauper.
ወፈነዎ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ለናታን፡ ነቢይ፡ ኀበ፡ ዳዊት፡ ወቦአ፡ ኀቤሁ፡ ወይቤሎ፡ ሀለዉ፡ ፪ዕደው፡ ውስተ፡ አሐቲ፡ ሀገር፡ ወ፩ባዕል፡ ወ፩ነዳይ።
Yahweh sent Nathan to David. He came to him, and said to him, “There were two men in one city: the one rich, and the other poor.
12:2
לְעָשִׁ֗יר הָיָ֛ה צֹ֥אן וּבָקָ֖ר הַרְבֵּ֥ה מְאֹֽד׃
καὶ τῷ πλουσίῳ ἦν ποίμνια καὶ βουκόλια πολλὰ σφόδρα
Dives habebat oves et boves plurimos valde.
ወቦ፡ ዝክቱ፡ ባዕል፡ ብዙኀ፡ እንስሳ፡ ወመራዕየ።
The rich man had very many flocks and herds,
12:3
וְלָרָ֣שׁ אֵֽין־כֹּ֗ל כִּי֩ אִם־כִּבְשָׂ֨ה אַחַ֤ת קְטַנָּה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר קָנָ֔ה וַיְחַיֶּ֕הָ וַתִּגְדַּ֥ל עִמּ֛וֹ וְעִם־בָּנָ֖יו יַחְדָּ֑ו מִפִּתּ֨וֹ תֹאכַ֜ל וּמִכֹּס֤וֹ תִשְׁתֶּה֙ וּבְחֵיק֣וֹ תִשְׁכָּ֔ב וַתְּהִי־ל֖וֹ כְּבַֽת׃
καὶ τῷ πένητι οὐδὲν ἀλλ’ ἢ ἀμνὰς μία μικρά ἣν ἐκτήσατο καὶ περιεποιήσατο καὶ ἐξέθρεψεν αὐτήν καὶ ἡδρύνθη μετ’ αὐτοῦ καὶ μετὰ τῶν υἱῶν αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτό ἐκ τοῦ ἄρτου αὐτοῦ ἤσθιεν καὶ ἐκ τοῦ ποτηρίου αὐτοῦ ἔπινεν καὶ ἐν τῷ κόλπῳ αὐτοῦ ἐκάθευδεν καὶ ἦν αὐτῷ ὡς θυγάτηρ
Pauper autem nihil habebat omnino, praeter ovem unam parvulam quam emerat et nutrierat, et quae creverat apud eum cum filiis ejus simul, de pane illius comedens, et de calice ejus bibens, et in sinu illius dormiens : eratque illi sicut filia.
ወዝክቱሰ፡ ነዳይ፡ አልቦቱ፡ ዘእንበለ፡ አሐቲ፡ በግዕተ፡ ንስቲተ፡ እንተ፡ ተሣየጣ፡ ወአልሀቃ፡ ወሐፀና፡ ወልህቀት፡ ምስሌሁ፡ ወምስለ፡ ውሉዱ፡ ትነብር፡ ወእምዘ፡ በልዐ፡ ትበልዕ፡ ይእቲ፡ ወእምነ፡ ዘይሰቲ፡ ውእቱ፡ ጽዋዖ፡ ትሰቲ፡ ወውስተ፡ ሕፅኑ፡ ትነውም፡ ወከመ፡ ወለቱ፡ ይእቲ፡ ሎቱ።
but the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and raised. It grew up together with him and with his children. It ate of his own food, drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was like a daughter to him.
12:4
וַיָּ֣בֹא הֵ֘לֶךְ֮ לְאִ֣ישׁ הֶעָשִׁיר֒ וַיַּחְמֹ֗ל לָקַ֤חַת מִצֹּאנוֹ֙ וּמִבְּקָר֔וֹ לַעֲשׂ֕וֹת לָאֹרֵ֖חַ הַבָּא־ל֑וֹ וַיִּקַּ֗ח אֶת־כִּבְשַׂת֙ הָאִ֣ישׁ הָרָ֔אשׁ וַֽיַּעֲשֶׂ֔הָ לָאִ֖ישׁ הַבָּ֥א אֵלָֽיו׃
καὶ ἦλθεν πάροδος τῷ ἀνδρὶ τῷ πλουσίῳ καὶ ἐφείσατο λαβεῖν ἐκ τῶν ποιμνίων αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐκ τῶν βουκολίων αὐτοῦ τοῦ ποιῆσαι τῷ ξένῳ ὁδοιπόρῳ ἐλθόντι πρὸς αὐτὸν καὶ ἔλαβεν τὴν ἀμνάδα τοῦ πένητος καὶ ἐποίησεν αὐτὴν τῷ ἀνδρὶ τῷ ἐλθόντι πρὸς αὐτόν
Cum autem peregrinus quidam venisset ad divitem, parcens ille sumere de ovibus et de bobus suis, ut exhiberet convivium peregrino illi qui venerat ad se, tulit ovem viri pauperis, et praeparavit cibos homini qui venerat ad se.
ወበጽሐ፡ ነግድ፡ ኀበ፡ ዝክቱ፡ ብእሲ፡ ባዕል፡ ወመሐከ፡ ነሢአ፡ እምውስተ፡ መራዕዪሁ፡ ከመ፡ ይግበር፡ ለነግድ፡ ዘመጽአ፡ ኀቤሁ፡ ወነሥአ፡ ለበግዕቱ፡ ለዝክቱ፡ ነዳይ፡ ወገብራ፡ ለውእቱ፡ ብእሲ፡ ነግድ፡ ዘመጽአ፡ ኀቤሁ።
A traveler came to the rich man, and he didn’t want to take of his own flock and of his own herd to prepare for the wayfaring man who had come to him, but took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.”
12:5
וַיִּחַר־אַ֥ף דָּוִ֛ד בָּאִ֖ישׁ מְאֹ֑ד וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֶל־נָתָ֔ן חַי־יְהֹוָ֕ה כִּ֣י בֶן־מָ֔וֶת הָאִ֖ישׁ הָעֹשֶׂ֥ה זֹֽאת׃
καὶ ἐθυμώθη ὀργῇ Δαυιδ σφόδρα τῷ ἀνδρί καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ πρὸς Ναθαν ζῇ κύριος ὅτι υἱὸς θανάτου ὁ ἀνὴρ ὁ ποιήσας τοῦτο
Iratus autem indignatione David adversus hominem illum nimis, dixit ad Nathan : Vivit Dominus, quoniam filius mortis est vir qui fecit hoc.
ወተምዕዐ፡ ዳዊት፡ ፈድፋደ፡ ላዕለ፡ ውእቱ፡ ብእሲ፡ ወይቤሎ፡ ዳዊት፡ ሕያው፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ከመ፡ ርቱዕ፡ ይሙት፡ ውእቱ፡ ብእሲ፡ ዘገብሮ፡ ለዝ፡ ግብር፡ እስመ፡ ኢይምሕሮ።
David’s anger burned hot against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As Yahweh lives, the man who has done this deserves to die!
12:6
וְאֶת־הַכִּבְשָׂ֖ה יְשַׁלֵּ֣ם אַרְבַּעְתָּ֑יִם עֵ֗קֶב אֲשֶׁ֤ר עָשָׂה֙ אֶת־הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה וְעַ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא־חָמָֽל׃ {ס}
καὶ τὴν ἀμνάδα ἀποτείσει ἑπταπλασίονα ἀνθ’ ὧν ὅτι ἐποίησεν τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο καὶ περὶ οὗ οὐκ ἐφείσατο
Ovem reddet in quadruplum, eo quod fecerit verbum istud, et non pepercerit.
ወይቤሎ፡ ናታን፡ ለዳዊት፡ አንተ፡ ብእሲ፡ ዘገብሮ፡ ለዝንቱ ፤ ከመዝ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አምላከ፡ እስራኤል፡ አነ፡ ውእቱ፡ ዘቀባእኩከ፡ ትንግሥአ፡ ላዕለአ፡ እስራኤልአ፡ ወአድኀንኩከአ፡ እምነ፡ እዴሁ፡ ለሳኦል።
He must restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing and because he had no pity!”
12:7
וַיֹּ֧אמֶר נָתָ֛ן אֶל־דָּוִ֖ד אַתָּ֣ה הָאִ֑ישׁ {ס} כֹּה־אָמַ֨ר יְהֹוָ֜ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל אָנֹכִ֞י מְשַׁחְתִּ֤יךָֽ לְמֶ֙לֶךְ֙ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְאָנֹכִ֥י הִצַּלְתִּ֖יךָ מִיַּ֥ד שָׁאֽוּל׃
καὶ εἶπεν Ναθαν πρὸς Δαυιδ σὺ εἶ ὁ ἀνὴρ ὁ ποιήσας τοῦτο τάδε λέγει κύριος ὁ θεὸς Ισραηλ ἐγώ εἰμι ἔχρισά σε εἰς βασιλέα ἐπὶ Ισραηλ καὶ ἐγώ εἰμι ἐρρυσάμην σε ἐκ χειρὸς Σαουλ
Dixit autem Nathan ad David : Tu es ille vir. Haec dicit Dominus Deus Israël : Ego unxi te in regem super Israël, et ego erui te de manu Saul,
ወወሀብኩከ፡ ቤቶ፡ ለእግዚእከ፡ ወአንስቲያሁኒ፡ ለእግዚእከ፡ ውስተ፡ ሕፅንከ፡ ወወሀብኩከ፡ ቤተ፡ እስራኤል፡ ወዘይሁዳ፡ ወእመኒ፡ ይውሕደከ፡ እዊስከከ፡ በአምጣነ፡ ዘከማሁ።
Nathan said to David, “You are the man! This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul.
12:8
וָאֶתְּנָ֨ה לְךָ֜ אֶת־בֵּ֣ית אֲדֹנֶ֗יךָ וְאֶת־נְשֵׁ֤י אֲדֹנֶ֙יךָ֙ בְּחֵיקֶ֔ךָ וָאֶתְּנָ֣ה לְךָ֔ אֶת־בֵּ֥ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל וִיהוּדָ֑ה וְאִ֨ם־מְעָ֔ט וְאֹסִ֥פָה לְּךָ֖ כָּהֵ֥נָּה וְכָהֵֽנָּה׃
καὶ ἔδωκά σοι τὸν οἶκον τοῦ κυρίου σου καὶ τὰς γυναῖκας τοῦ κυρίου σου ἐν τῷ κόλπῳ σου καὶ ἔδωκά σοι τὸν οἶκον Ισραηλ καὶ Ιουδα καὶ εἰ μικρόν ἐστιν προσθήσω σοι κατὰ ταῦτα
et dedi tibi domum domini tui, et uxores domini tui in sinu tuo, dedique tibi domum Israël et Juda : et si parva sunt ista, adjiciam tibi multo majora.
በእፎ፡ ከመ፡ አሕሠምከ፡ ላዕለ፡ ቃለ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ከመ፡ ትግበር፡ እኩየ፡ ቅድመ፡ አዕይንቲሁ፡ ወቀተልኮ፡ ለኦርዮስ፡ ወብእሲቶኒ፡ ነሣእክ፡ ለከ፡ ብእሲተ፡ ወኪያሁኒ፡ ቀተልከ፡ በኲናት፡ ዘደቂቀ፡ ዐሞን።
I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your bosom, and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that would have been too little, I would have added to you many more such things.
12:9
מַדּ֜וּעַ בָּזִ֣יתָ׀ אֶת־דְּבַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֗ה לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת הָרַע֮ (בעינו) [בְּעֵינַי֒] אֵ֣ת אוּרִיָּ֤ה הַחִתִּי֙ הִכִּ֣יתָ בַחֶ֔רֶב וְאֶ֨ת־אִשְׁתּ֔וֹ לָקַ֥חְתָּ לְּךָ֖ לְאִשָּׁ֑ה וְאֹת֣וֹ הָרַ֔גְתָּ בְּחֶ֖רֶב בְּנֵ֥י עַמּֽוֹן׃
τί ὅτι ἐφαύλισας τὸν λόγον κυρίου τοῦ ποιῆσαι τὸ πονηρὸν ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς αὐτοῦ τὸν Ουριαν τὸν Χετταῖον ἐπάταξας ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ καὶ τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ ἔλαβες σεαυτῷ εἰς γυναῖκα καὶ αὐτὸν ἀπέκτεινας ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ υἱῶν Αμμων
Quare ergo contempsisti verbum Domini, ut faceres malum in conspectu meo ? Uriam Hethaeum percussisti gladio, et uxorem illius accepisti in uxorem tibi, et interfecisti eum gladio filiorum Ammon.
ወይእዜኒ፡ ኢየኀልፍ፡ ኲናት፡ እምነ፡ ቤትከ፡ እስከ፡ ለዓለም፡ ኢትርሐቅ፡ ኲናት፡ እስመ፡ አስተሐቀርከኒ፡ ወነሣእከ፡ ብእሲቶ፡ ለኦርዮስ፡ ኬጥያዊ።
Why have you despised Yahweh’s word, to do that which is evil in his sight? You have struck Uriah the Hittite with the sword, have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.
12:10
וְעַתָּ֗ה לֹא־תָס֥וּר חֶ֛רֶב מִבֵּיתְךָ֖ עַד־עוֹלָ֑ם עֵ֚קֶב כִּ֣י בְזִתָ֔נִי וַתִּקַּ֗ח אֶת־אֵ֙שֶׁת֙ אוּרִיָּ֣ה הַחִתִּ֔י לִהְי֥וֹת לְךָ֖ לְאִשָּֽׁה׃ {ס}
καὶ νῦν οὐκ ἀποστήσεται ῥομφαία ἐκ τοῦ οἴκου σου ἕως αἰῶνος ἀνθ’ ὧν ὅτι ἐξουδένωσάς με καὶ ἔλαβες τὴν γυναῖκα τοῦ Ουριου τοῦ Χετταίου τοῦ εἶναί σοι εἰς γυναῖκα
Quam ob rem non recedet gladius de domo tua usque in sempiternum, eo quod despexeris me, et tuleris uxorem Uriae Hethaei ut esset uxor tua.
ትኩንከ፡ ብእሲተ።
Now therefore the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised me and have taken Uriah the Hittite’s wife to be your wife.’
12:11
כֹּ֣ה׀ אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֗ה הִנְנִי֩ מֵקִ֨ים עָלֶ֤יךָ רָעָה֙ מִבֵּיתֶ֔ךָ וְלָקַחְתִּ֤י אֶת־נָשֶׁ֙יךָ֙ לְעֵינֶ֔יךָ וְנָתַתִּ֖י לְרֵעֶ֑יךָ וְשָׁכַב֙ עִם־נָשֶׁ֔יךָ לְעֵינֵ֖י הַשֶּׁ֥מֶשׁ הַזֹּֽאת׃
τάδε λέγει κύριος ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐξεγείρω ἐπὶ σὲ κακὰ ἐκ τοῦ οἴκου σου καὶ λήμψομαι τὰς γυναῖκάς σου κατ’ ὀφθαλμούς σου καὶ δώσω τῷ πλησίον σου καὶ κοιμηθήσεται μετὰ τῶν γυναικῶν σου ἐναντίον τοῦ ἡλίου τούτου
Itaque haec dicit Dominus : Ecce ego suscitabo super te malum de domo tua, et tollam uxores tuas in oculis tuis, et dabo proximo tuo : et dormiet cum uxoribus tuis in oculis solis hujus.
ከመዝአ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔርአ፡ ናሁ፡ አነአ፡ ኣመጽእ፡ ላዕሌከ፡ እኪተ፡ እምነ፡ ቤትከ፡ ወእነሥእን፡ ለአንስቲያከ፡ እንዘ፡ ትሬኢ፡ በአዕይንቲከ፡ ወእሁቦን፡ ለአንስቲያከ፡ ለካልእከ፡ ወይሰክብ፡ ምስለ፡ አንስቲያከ፡ በቅድሜሁ፡ ለዝንቱ፡ ፀሓይ።
“This is what Yahweh says: ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he will lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.
12:12
כִּ֥י אַתָּ֖ה עָשִׂ֣יתָ בַסָּ֑תֶר וַאֲנִ֗י אֶֽעֱשֶׂה֙ אֶת־הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה נֶ֥גֶד כׇּל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל וְנֶ֥גֶד הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃ {ס}
ὅτι σὺ ἐποίησας κρυβῇ κἀγὼ ποιήσω τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο ἐναντίον παντὸς Ισραηλ καὶ ἀπέναντι τούτου τοῦ ἡλίου
Tu enim fecisti abscondite : ego autem faciam verbum istud in conspectu omnis Israël, et in conspectu solis.
እስመ፡ አንተ፡ ገበርከ፡ ጽሚተ፡ ወአንሰ፡ ገሃደ፡ እገብር፡ በቅድመ፡ ኵሉ፡ እስራኤል፡ ወበቅድመ፡ ዝንቱአ፡ ፀሓይአ።
For you did this secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.’”
12:13
וַיֹּ֤אמֶר דָּוִד֙ אֶל־נָתָ֔ן חָטָ֖אתִי לַיהֹוָ֑ה {ס} וַיֹּ֨אמֶר נָתָ֜ן אֶל־דָּוִ֗ד גַּם־יְהֹוָ֛ה הֶעֱבִ֥יר חַטָּאתְךָ֖ לֹ֥א תָמֽוּת׃
καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ τῷ Ναθαν ἡμάρτηκα τῷ κυρίῳ καὶ εἶπεν Ναθαν πρὸς Δαυιδ καὶ κύριος παρεβίβασεν τὸ ἁμάρτημά σου οὐ μὴ ἀποθάνῃς
Et dixit David ad Nathan : Peccavi Domino. Dixitque Nathan ad David : Dominus quoque transtulit peccatum tuum : non morieris.
ወይቤሎ፡ ዳዊት፡ ለናታን፡ አበስኩ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር፡ ወይቤሎ፡ ናታን፡ ለዳዊት፡ ወእግዚአብሔርኒ፡ ተዐደዋ፡ ለኀጢአትከ፡ ወኢትመውት።
David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against Yahweh.” Nathan said to David, “Yahweh also has put away your sin. You will not die.
12:14
אֶ֗פֶס כִּֽי־נִאֵ֤ץ נִאַ֙צְתָּ֙ אֶת־אֹיְבֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֔ה בַּדָּבָ֖ר הַזֶּ֑ה גַּ֗ם הַבֵּ֛ן הַיִּלּ֥וֹד לְךָ֖ מ֥וֹת יָמֽוּת׃
πλὴν ὅτι παροξύνων παρώξυνας τοὺς ἐχθροὺς κυρίου ἐν τῷ ῥήματι τούτῳ καί γε ὁ υἱός σου ὁ τεχθείς σοι θανάτῳ ἀποθανεῖται
Verumtamen quoniam blasphemare fecisti inimicos Domini, propter verbum hoc, filius qui natus est tibi, morte morietur.
ወባሕቱ፡ እስመ፡ ውሒከ፡ ወሐካሆሙ፡ ለፀረ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ በዝንቱ፡ ነንር፡ ወወልድከኒ፡ ዘተወልደ፡ ለከ፡ ሞተ፡ ይመውት።
However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to Yahweh’s enemies to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you will surely die.”
12:15
וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ נָתָ֖ן אֶל־בֵּית֑וֹ וַיִּגֹּ֣ף יְהֹוָ֗ה אֶת־הַיֶּ֜לֶד אֲשֶׁ֨ר יָלְדָ֧ה אֵשֶׁת־אוּרִיָּ֛ה לְדָוִ֖ד וַיֵּאָנַֽשׁ׃
καὶ ἀπῆλθεν Ναθαν εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔθραυσεν κύριος τὸ παιδίον ὃ ἔτεκεν ἡ γυνὴ Ουριου τῷ Δαυιδ καὶ ἠρρώστησεν
Et reversus est Nathan in domum suam. Percussit quoque Dominus parvulum quem pepererat uxor Uriae David, et desperatus est.
ወአተወ፡ ናታን፡ ቤቶ፡ ወቀተሎ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ለውእቱ፡ ሕፃን፡ ዘወለደት፡ ሎቱ፡ ብእሲተ፡ ኦርዮስ፡ ለዳዊት፡ ወደወየ።
Then Nathan departed to his house. Yahweh struck the child that Uriah’s wife bore to David, and he was very sick.
12:16
וַיְבַקֵּ֥שׁ דָּוִ֛ד אֶת־הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים בְּעַ֣ד הַנָּ֑עַר וַיָּ֤צׇם דָּוִד֙ צ֔וֹם וּבָ֥א וְלָ֖ן וְשָׁכַ֥ב אָֽרְצָה׃
καὶ ἐζήτησεν Δαυιδ τὸν θεὸν περὶ τοῦ παιδαρίου καὶ ἐνήστευσεν Δαυιδ νηστείαν καὶ εἰσῆλθεν καὶ ηὐλίσθη ἐν σάκκῳ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς
Deprecatusque est David Dominum pro parvulo : et jejunavit David jejunio, et ingressus seorsum, jacuit super terram.
ወኀሠሦ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር፡ ዳዊት፡ በእንተ፡ ውእቱ፡ ሕፃን፡ ወጾመ፡ ዳዊት፡ ጾመ፡ ወቦአ፡ ወሰከበ፡ ውስተ፡ ምድር።
David therefore begged God for the child; and David fasted, and went in and lay all night on the ground.
12:17
וַיָּקֻ֜מוּ זִקְנֵ֤י בֵיתוֹ֙ עָלָ֔יו לַהֲקִימ֖וֹ מִן־הָאָ֑רֶץ וְלֹ֣א אָבָ֔ה וְלֹא־בָרָ֥א אִתָּ֖ם לָֽחֶם׃
καὶ ἀνέστησαν ἐπ’ αὐτὸν οἱ πρεσβύτεροι τοῦ οἴκου αὐτοῦ τοῦ ἐγεῖραι αὐτὸν ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς καὶ οὐκ ἠθέλησεν καὶ οὐ συνέφαγεν αὐτοῖς ἄρτον
Venerunt autem seniores domus ejus, cogentes eum ut surgeret de terra : qui noluit, nec comedit cum eis cibum.
ወቆሙ፡ ላዕሌሁ፡ ሊቃናተ፡ ቤቱ፡ ያንሥእዎ፡ እምነ፡ ምድር፡ ወአበየ፡ ወኢበልዐ፡ ምስሌሆሙ፡ እክለ።
The elders of his house arose beside him, to raise him up from the earth; but he would not, and he didn’t eat bread with them.
12:18
וַיְהִ֛י בַּיּ֥וֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִ֖י וַיָּ֣מׇת הַיָּ֑לֶד וַיִּֽרְאוּ֩ עַבְדֵ֨י דָוִ֜ד לְהַגִּ֥יד ל֣וֹ׀ כִּי־מֵ֣ת הַיֶּ֗לֶד כִּ֤י אָֽמְרוּ֙ הִנֵּה֩ בִֽהְי֨וֹת הַיֶּ֜לֶד חַ֗י דִּבַּ֤רְנוּ אֵלָיו֙ וְלֹא־שָׁמַ֣ע בְּקוֹלֵ֔נוּ וְאֵ֨יךְ נֹאמַ֥ר אֵלָ֛יו מֵ֥ת הַיֶּ֖לֶד וְעָשָׂ֥ה רָעָֽה׃
καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ἑβδόμῃ καὶ ἀπέθανε τὸ παιδάριον καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν οἱ δοῦλοι Δαυιδ ἀναγγεῖλαι αὐτῷ ὅτι τέθνηκεν τὸ παιδάριον ὅτι εἶπαν ἰδοὺ ἐν τῷ ἔτι τὸ παιδάριον ζῆν ἐλαλήσαμεν πρὸς αὐτόν καὶ οὐκ εἰσήκουσεν τῆς φωνῆς ἡμῶν καὶ πῶς εἴπωμεν πρὸς αὐτὸν ὅτι τέθνηκεν τὸ παιδάριον καὶ ποιήσει κακά
Accidit autem die septima ut moreretur infans : timueruntque servi David nuntiare ei quod mortuus esset parvulus : dixerunt enim : Ecce cum parvulus adhuc viveret, loquebamur ad eum, et non audiebat vocem nostram : quanto magis si dixerimus : Mortuus est puer, se affliget ?
ወእምዝ፡ አመ፡ ሳብዕት፡ ዕለት፡ ሞተ፡ ውእቱ፡ ሕፃን፡ ወፈርሁ፡ ደቁ፡ ለዳዊት፡ አይድዖቶ፡ ከመ፡ ሞተ፡ ውእቱ፡ ሕፃን፡ እስመ፡ ይቤሉ፡ እንዘ፡ ዓዲ፡ ሕፃን፡ ሕያው፡ ነበብናሁ፡ ወኢሰምዐ፡ ቃለነ፡ ወእፎ፡ ንብሎ፡ ሞተ፡ ሕፃን፡ ወይገብር፡ እንከ፡ እኪተ።
On the seventh day, the child died. David’s servants were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they said, “Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spoke to him and he didn’t listen to our voice. How will he then harm himself if we tell him that the child is dead?”
12:19
וַיַּ֣רְא דָּוִ֗ד כִּ֤י עֲבָדָיו֙ מִֽתְלַחֲשִׁ֔ים וַיָּ֥בֶן דָּוִ֖ד כִּ֣י מֵ֣ת הַיָּ֑לֶד וַיֹּ֨אמֶר דָּוִ֧ד אֶל־עֲבָדָ֛יו הֲמֵ֥ת הַיֶּ֖לֶד וַיֹּ֥אמְרוּ מֵֽת׃
καὶ συνῆκεν Δαυιδ ὅτι οἱ παῖδες αὐτοῦ ψιθυρίζουσιν καὶ ἐνόησεν Δαυιδ ὅτι τέθνηκεν τὸ παιδάριον καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ πρὸς τοὺς παῖδας αὐτοῦ εἰ τέθνηκεν τὸ παιδάριον καὶ εἶπαν τέθνηκεν
Cum ergo David vidisset servos suos mussitantes, intellexit quod mortuus esset infantulus : dixitque ad servos suos : Num mortuus est puer ? Qui responderunt ei : Mortuus est.
ወርእዮሙ፡ ዳዊት፡ እንዘ፡ ያልሖስሱ፡ ደቁ፡ ወአእመረ፡ ዳዊት፡ ከመ፡ ሞተ፡ ሕፃን፡ ወይቤሎሙ፡ ሞተኑ፡ ሕፃን፡ ወይቤልዎ፡ ሞተ።
But when David saw that his servants were whispering together, David perceived that the child was dead; and David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” They said, “He is dead.”
12:20
וַיָּ֩קׇם֩ דָּוִ֨ד מֵהָאָ֜רֶץ וַיִּרְחַ֣ץ וַיָּ֗סֶךְ וַיְחַלֵּף֙ שִׂמְלֹתָ֔ו וַיָּבֹ֥א בֵית־יְהֹוָ֖ה וַיִּשְׁתָּ֑חוּ וַיָּבֹא֙ אֶל־בֵּית֔וֹ וַיִּשְׁאַ֕ל וַיָּשִׂ֥ימוּ ל֛וֹ לֶ֖חֶם וַיֹּאכַֽל׃
καὶ ἀνέστη Δαυιδ ἐκ τῆς γῆς καὶ ἐλούσατο καὶ ἠλείψατο καὶ ἤλλαξεν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ καὶ εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ προσεκύνησεν αὐτῷ καὶ εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ καὶ ᾔτησεν ἄρτον φαγεῖν καὶ παρέθηκαν αὐτῷ ἄρτον καὶ ἔφαγεν
Surrexit ergo David de terra, et lotus unctusque est : cumque mutasset vestem, ingressus est domum Domini : et adoravit, et venit in domum suam, petivitque ut ponerent ei panem, et comedit.
ወተንሥአ፡ ዳዊት፡ እምነ፡ ምድር፡ ወተሐፅበ፡ ወወለጠ፡ አልባሲሁ፡ ወቦአ፡ ውስተ፡ ሌተ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወሰገደ፡ ሎቱ፡ ወአተወ፡ ቤቶ፡ ወስአለ፡ እክለ፡ ወበልዐ፡ ወአንበረ፡ ቅድሜሁ፡ ኅብስተ፡ ወበልዐ።
Then David arose from the earth, and washed and anointed himself, and changed his clothing; and he came into Yahweh’s house, and worshiped. Then he came to his own house; and when he requested, they set bread before him and he ate.
12:21
וַיֹּאמְר֤וּ עֲבָדָיו֙ אֵלָ֔יו מָה־הַדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשִׂ֑יתָה בַּעֲב֞וּר הַיֶּ֤לֶד חַי֙ צַ֣מְתָּ וַתֵּ֔בְךְּ וְכַֽאֲשֶׁר֙ מֵ֣ת הַיֶּ֔לֶד קַ֖מְתָּ וַתֹּ֥אכַל לָֽחֶם׃
καὶ εἶπαν οἱ παῖδες αὐτοῦ πρὸς αὐτόν τί τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο ὃ ἐποίησας ἕνεκα τοῦ παιδαρίου ἔτι ζῶντος ἐνήστευες καὶ ἔκλαιες καὶ ἠγρύπνεις καὶ ἡνίκα ἀπέθανεν τὸ παιδάριον ἀνέστης καὶ ἔφαγες ἄρτον καὶ πέπωκας
Dixerunt autem ei servi sui : Quis est sermo quem fecisti ? propter infantem, cum adhuc viveret, jejunasti et flebas : mortuo autem puero, surrexisti, et comedisti panem.
ወይቤልዎ፡ ደቁ፡ ለዳዊት፡ ምንትኑ፡ ውእቱ፡ ዝንቱ፡ ነንር፡ ዘገበርከ፡ በእንተ፡ ውእቱ፡ ሕፃን፡ እስመ፡ እንዘ፡ ዓዲሁ፡ ሕያው፡ ጾምከ፡ ወበከይከ፡ ወተጋህከ፡ ወእምዘ፡ ሞተ፡ ሕፃን፡ ተንሣእከ፡ ወበላዕከ፡ እክለ፡ ወሰተይከ።
Then his servants said to him, “What is this that you have done? You fasted and wept for the child while he was alive, but when the child was dead, you rose up and ate bread.”
12:22
וַיֹּ֕אמֶר בְּעוֹד֙ הַיֶּ֣לֶד חַ֔י צַ֖מְתִּי וָאֶבְכֶּ֑ה כִּ֤י אָמַ֙רְתִּי֙ מִ֣י יוֹדֵ֔עַ (יחנני) [וְחַנַּ֥נִי] יְהֹוָ֖ה וְחַ֥י הַיָּֽלֶד׃
καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ ἐν τῷ τὸ παιδάριον ἔτι ζῆν ἐνήστευσα καὶ ἔκλαυσα ὅτι εἶπα τίς οἶδεν εἰ ἐλεήσει με κύριος καὶ ζήσεται τὸ παιδάριον
Qui ait : Propter infantem, dum adhuc viveret, jejunavi et flevi : dicebam enim : Quis scit si forte donet eum mihi Dominus, et vivat infans ?
ወይቤሎሙ፡ ዳዊት፡ አመሰ፡ ሕያው፡ ሕፃን፡ ጾምኩ፡ ወዓዲ፡ በከይኩ፡ እስመ፡ እቤ፡ መኑ፡ ያአምር፡ ዮጊ፡ ይምሕረኒ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወየሐዩ፡ ሕፃን።
He said, “While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who knows whether Yahweh will not be gracious to me, that the child may live?’
12:23
וְעַתָּ֣ה׀ מֵ֗ת לָ֤מָּה זֶּה֙ אֲנִ֣י צָ֔ם הַאוּכַ֥ל לַהֲשִׁיב֖וֹ ע֑וֹד אֲנִי֙ הֹלֵ֣ךְ אֵלָ֔יו וְה֖וּא לֹא־יָשׁ֥וּב אֵלָֽי׃
καὶ νῦν τέθνηκεν ἵνα τί τοῦτο ἐγὼ νηστεύω μὴ δυνήσομαι ἐπιστρέψαι αὐτὸ ἔτι ἐγὼ πορεύσομαι πρὸς αὐτόν καὶ αὐτὸς οὐκ ἀναστρέψει πρός με
Nunc autem quia mortuus est, quare jejunem ? numquid potero revocare eum amplius ? ego vadam magis ad eum : ille vero non revertetur ad me.
ወይእዜሰ፡ ሶበ፡ ሞተ፡ ለምንት፡ እንከ፡ አነ፡ እጾውም፡ ቦኑ፡ እክል፡ አግብኦቶ፡ እምይእዜሰ፡ እንከ፡ አነ፡ ዓዲ፡ አሐውር፡ ኀቤሁ፡ ወውእቱሰ፡ ኢይገብእ፡ ኀቤየ።
But now he is dead. Why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.”
12:24
וַיְנַחֵ֣ם דָּוִ֗ד אֵ֚ת בַּת־שֶׁ֣בַע אִשְׁתּ֔וֹ וַיָּבֹ֥א אֵלֶ֖יהָ וַיִּשְׁכַּ֣ב עִמָּ֑הּ וַתֵּ֣לֶד בֵּ֗ן (ויקרא) [וַתִּקְרָ֤א] אֶת־שְׁמוֹ֙ שְׁלֹמֹ֔ה וַיהֹוָ֖ה אֲהֵבֽוֹ׃
καὶ παρεκάλεσεν Δαυιδ Βηρσαβεε τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ καὶ εἰσῆλθεν πρὸς αὐτὴν καὶ ἐκοιμήθη μετ’ αὐτῆς καὶ συνέλαβεν καὶ ἔτεκεν υἱόν καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Σαλωμων καὶ κύριος ἠγάπησεν αὐτόν
Et consolatus est David Bethsabee uxorem suam, ingressusque ad eam dormivit cum ea : quae genuit filium, et vocavit nomen ejus Salomon : et Dominus dilexit eum.
ወአንገፈ፡ ላሓ፡ ለቤርሳቤሕ፡ ብእሲቱ፡ ወቦአ፡ ኀቤሃ፡ ወሰከበ፡ ምስሌሃ፡ ወፀንሰት፡ ወወለደት፡ ወልደ፡ ወሰመዮ፡ ስሞ፡ ሰሎሞንሃ፡ ወአፍቀሮ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her, and lay with her. She bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. Yahweh loved him;
12:25
וַיִּשְׁלַ֗ח בְּיַד֙ נָתָ֣ן הַנָּבִ֔יא וַיִּקְרָ֥א אֶת־שְׁמ֖וֹ יְדִ֣ידְיָ֑הּ בַּעֲב֖וּר יְהֹוָֽה׃ {פ}
καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ἐν χειρὶ Ναθαν τοῦ προφήτου καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ιδεδι ἕνεκεν κυρίου
Misitque in manu Nathan prophetae, et vocavit nomen ejus, Amabilis Domino, eo quod diligeret eum Dominus.
ወለአከ፡ በእዴሁ፡ ለናታን፡ ነቢይ፡ ወጸውዖ፡ በስሙ፡ ከመ፡ ይርአይ፡ ለእመ፡ በእንተ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡
and he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and he named him Jedidiah, for Yahweh’s sake.
12:26
וַיִּלָּ֣חֶם יוֹאָ֔ב בְּרַבַּ֖ת בְּנֵ֣י עַמּ֑וֹן וַיִּלְכֹּ֖ד אֶת־עִ֥יר הַמְּלוּכָֽה׃
καὶ ἐπολέμησεν Ιωαβ ἐν Ραββαθ υἱῶν Αμμων καὶ κατέλαβεν τὴν πόλιν τῆς βασιλείας
Igitur pugnabat Joab contra Rabbath filiorum Ammon, et expugnabat urbem regiam.
ተቃተሎሙ፡ ኢዮአብ፡ ለደቂቀ፡ ዐሞን፡ በረቦት፡ ወአስተጋብአ፡ ሀገረ፡ መንግሥቶሙ።
Now Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.
12:27
וַיִּשְׁלַ֥ח יוֹאָ֛ב מַלְאָכִ֖ים אֶל־דָּוִ֑ד וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ נִלְחַ֣מְתִּי בְרַבָּ֔ה גַּם־לָכַ֖דְתִּי אֶת־עִ֥יר הַמָּֽיִם׃
καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Ιωαβ ἀγγέλους πρὸς Δαυιδ καὶ εἶπεν ἐπολέμησα ἐν Ραββαθ καὶ κατελαβόμην τὴν πόλιν τῶν ὑδάτων
Misitque Joab nuntios ad David, dicens : Dimicavi adversum Rabbath, et capienda est Urbs aquarum.
ወፈነወ፡ ኢዮአብ፡ ዜና፡ ኀበ፡ ዳዊት፡ እንዘ፡ ይብል፡ ተቃተልናሆሙአ፡ ለረቦትአ፡ ወአስተጋባእነአ፡ ሀገርአ፡ ማያትአ።
Joab sent messengers to David, and said, “I have fought against Rabbah. Yes, I have taken the city of waters.
12:28
וְעַתָּ֗ה אֱסֹף֙ אֶת־יֶ֣תֶר הָעָ֔ם וַחֲנֵ֥ה עַל־הָעִ֖יר וְלׇכְדָ֑הּ פֶּן־אֶלְכֹּ֤ד אֲנִי֙ אֶת־הָעִ֔יר וְנִקְרָ֥א שְׁמִ֖י עָלֶֽיהָ׃
καὶ νῦν συνάγαγε τὸ κατάλοιπον τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ παρέμβαλε ἐπὶ τὴν πόλιν καὶ προκαταλαβοῦ αὐτήν ἵνα μὴ προκαταλάβωμαι ἐγὼ τὴν πόλιν καὶ κληθῇ τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐπ’ αὐτήν
Nunc igitur congrega reliquam partem populi, et obside civitatem, et cape eam : ne cum a me vastata fuerit urbs, nomini meo ascribatur victoria.
ወይእዜኒአ፡ አስተጋብእአ፡ ሕዝብአ፡ ዘተርፈአ፡ ወተዐየንአ፡ ላዕለ፡ ሀገርአ፡ ከመአ፡ ታስተጋብእአ፡ ለሀገርአ፡ ወይሰመይአ፡ ስም[ከ]፡ በላዕሌሃ።
Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and encamp against the city and take it; lest I take the city, and it be called by my name.”
12:29
וַיֶּאֱסֹ֥ף דָּוִ֛ד אֶת־כׇּל־הָעָ֖ם וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ רַבָּ֑תָה וַיִּלָּ֥חֶם בָּ֖הּ וַֽיִּלְכְּדָֽהּ׃
καὶ συνήγαγεν Δαυιδ πάντα τὸν λαὸν καὶ ἐπορεύθη εἰς Ραββαθ καὶ ἐπολέμησεν ἐν αὐτῇ καὶ κατελάβετο αὐτήν
Congregavit itaque David omnem populum, et profectus est adversum Rabbath : cumque dimicasset, cepit eam.
ወአስተጋብአ፡ ዳዊት፡ ኵሎ፡ ሕዝበ፡ ወሖረ፡ ውስተ፡ ረባት፡ ወተቃተለ፡ ወአስተጋብአ።
David gathered all the people together and went to Rabbah, and fought against it and took it.
12:30
וַיִּקַּ֣ח אֶת־עֲטֶֽרֶת־מַלְכָּם֩ מֵעַ֨ל רֹאשׁ֜וֹ וּמִשְׁקָלָ֨הּ כִּכַּ֤ר זָהָב֙ וְאֶ֣בֶן יְקָרָ֔ה וַתְּהִ֖י עַל־רֹ֣אשׁ דָּוִ֑ד וּשְׁלַ֥ל הָעִ֛יר הוֹצִ֖יא הַרְבֵּ֥ה מְאֹֽד׃
καὶ ἔλαβεν τὸν στέφανον Μελχολ τοῦ βασιλέως αὐτῶν ἀπὸ τῆς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ καὶ ὁ σταθμὸς αὐτοῦ τάλαντον χρυσίου καὶ λίθου τιμίου καὶ ἦν ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς Δαυιδ καὶ σκῦλα τῆς πόλεως ἐξήνεγκεν πολλὰ σφόδρα
Et tulit diadema regis eorum de capite ejus, pondo auri talentum, habens gemmas pretiosissimas : et impositum est super caput David. Sed et praedam civitatis asportavit multam valde :
ወነሥአ፡ አክሊሎ፡ ለሚልኮል፡ ንጉሦሙ፡ እምነ፡ ርእሱ፡ ወድልወቱ፡ መክሊተ፡ ወርቅ፡ ወቦ፡ ውስቴቱ፡ ዕንቈ፡ ክቡረ፡ ወወደየ፡ ውስተ፡ ርእሱ፡ ዳዊት፡ ወብዙኅ፡ በርባር፡ ዘአውፅአ፡ እምነ፡ ሀገር፡ ፈድፋደ።
He took the crown of their king from off his head; and its weight was a talent of gold, and in it were precious stones; and it was set on David’s head. He brought a great quantity of plunder out of the city.
12:31
וְאֶת־הָעָ֨ם אֲשֶׁר־בָּ֜הּ הוֹצִ֗יא וַיָּ֣שֶׂם בַּ֠מְּגֵרָ֠ה וּבַחֲרִצֵ֨י הַבַּרְזֶ֜ל וּֽבְמַגְזְרֹ֣ת הַבַּרְזֶ֗ל וְהֶעֱבִ֤יר אוֹתָם֙ (במלכן) [בַּמַּלְבֵּ֔ן] וְכֵ֣ן יַעֲשֶׂ֔ה לְכֹ֖ל עָרֵ֣י בְנֵֽי־עַמּ֑וֹן וַיָּ֧שׇׁב דָּוִ֛ד וְכׇל־הָעָ֖ם יְרֽוּשָׁלָֽ͏ִם׃ {פ}
καὶ τὸν λαὸν τὸν ὄντα ἐν αὐτῇ ἐξήγαγεν καὶ ἔθηκεν ἐν τῷ πρίονι καὶ ἐν τοῖς τριβόλοις τοῖς σιδηροῖς καὶ διήγαγεν αὐτοὺς διὰ τοῦ πλινθείου καὶ οὕτως ἐποίησεν πάσαις ταῖς πόλεσιν υἱῶν Αμμων καὶ ἐπέστρεψεν Δαυιδ καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς εἰς Ιερουσαλημ
populum quoque ejus adducens serravit, et circumegit super eos ferrata carpenta : divisitque cultris, et traduxit in typo laterum : sic fecit universis civitatibus filiorum Ammon. Et reversus est David et omnis exercitus in Jerusalem.
ወሕዝብኒ፡ ዘውስቴታ፡ አውጽኦሙ፡ ወአንበሮሙ፡ ውስተ፡ ጵርዮን፡ ወአኅለፎሙ፡ እንተ፡ ጰልንትያ፡ ወከማሁ፡ ገብሮሙ፡ ለኵሉ፡ አሀጉረ፡ ደቂቀ፡ ዐሞን፡ ወአተወ፡ ዳዊት፡ ምስለ፡ ኵሉ፡ ሕዝብ፡ ውስተ፡ ኢየሩሳሌም።
He brought out the people who were in it, and put them to work under saws, under iron picks, under axes of iron, and made them go to the brick kiln; and he did so to all the cities of the children of Ammon. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
