38:1
בַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵ֔ם חָלָ֥ה חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ לָמ֑וּת וַיָּב֣וֹא אֵ֠לָ֠יו יְשַֽׁעְיָ֨הוּ בֶן־אָמ֜וֹץ הַנָּבִ֗יא וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלָ֜יו כֹּֽה־אָמַ֤ר יְהֹוָה֙ צַ֣ו לְבֵיתֶ֔ךָ כִּ֛י מֵ֥ת אַתָּ֖ה וְלֹ֥א תִֽחְיֶֽה׃
ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ ἐμαλακίσθη Εζεκιας ἕως θανάτου καὶ ἦλθεν πρὸς αὐτὸν Ησαιας υἱὸς Αμως ὁ προφήτης καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν τάδε λέγει κύριος τάξαι περὶ τοῦ οἴκου σου ἀποθνῄσκεις γὰρ σὺ καὶ οὐ ζήσῃ
In diebus illis aegrotavit Ezechias usque ad mortem ; et introivit ad eum Isaias, filius Amos, propheta, et dixit ei : Haec dicit Dominus : Dispone domui tuae, quia morieris tu, et non vives.
ወውእተ፡ አሚረ፡ ደወየ፡ ሕዝቅያስ፡ ወበጽሐ፡ ለሞት።
In those days Hezekiah was sick and near death. Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, came to him, and said to him, “Yahweh says, ‘Set your house in order, for you will die, and not live.’”
38:2
וַיַּסֵּ֧ב חִזְקִיָּ֛הוּ פָּנָ֖יו אֶל־הַקִּ֑יר וַיִּתְפַּלֵּ֖ל אֶל־יְהֹוָֽה׃
καὶ ἀπέστρεψεν Εζεκιας τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ πρὸς τὸν τοῖχον καὶ προσηύξατο πρὸς κύριον
Et convertit Ezechias faciem suam ad parietem, et oravit ad Dominum,
ወሜጠ፡ ሕዝቅያስ፡ ገጾ፡ ኀበ፡ አረፍት፡ ወጸለየ፡ ኀበ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to Yahweh,
38:3
וַיֹּאמַ֗ר אָנָּ֤ה יְהֹוָה֙ זְכׇר־נָ֞א אֵ֣ת אֲשֶׁ֧ר הִתְהַלַּ֣כְתִּי לְפָנֶ֗יךָ בֶּֽאֱמֶת֙ וּבְלֵ֣ב שָׁלֵ֔ם וְהַטּ֥וֹב בְּעֵינֶ֖יךָ עָשִׂ֑יתִי וַיֵּ֥בְךְּ חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ בְּכִ֥י גָדֽוֹל׃ {ס}
λέγων μνήσθητι κύριε ὡς ἐπορεύθην ἐνώπιόν σου μετὰ ἀληθείας ἐν καρδίᾳ ἀληθινῇ καὶ τὰ ἀρεστὰ ἐνώπιόν σου ἐποίησα καὶ ἔκλαυσεν Εζεκιας κλαυθμῷ μεγάλῳ
et dixit : Obsecro, Domine, memento, quaeso, quomodo ambulaverim coram te in veritate et in corde perfecto, et quod bonum est in oculis tuis fecerim. Et flevit Ezechias fletu magno.
ወይቤ፤ ተዘከር፡ እግዚኦ፡ ዘከመ፡ ሖርኩ፡ ቅድሜከ፡ በጽድቅ፡ ወበልብ፡ ርቱዕ፣፡ ወገበርኩ፡ ቅድሜከ፡ ሥምረተከ።
and said, “Remember now, Yahweh, I beg you, how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in your sight.” Then Hezekiah wept bitterly.
38:4
וַֽיְהִי֙ דְּבַר־יְהֹוָ֔ה אֶֽל־יְשַֽׁעְיָ֖הוּ לֵאמֹֽר׃
καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου πρὸς Ησαιαν λέγων
Et factum est verbum Domini ad Isaiam, dicens :
ወኮነ፡ ቃለ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ኀበ፡ ኢሳይያስ፡ ወይቤሎ።
Then Yahweh’s word came to Isaiah, saying,
38:5
הָל֞וֹךְ וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֶל־חִזְקִיָּ֗הוּ כֹּֽה־אָמַ֤ר יְהֹוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵי֙ דָּוִ֣ד אָבִ֔יךָ שָׁמַ֙עְתִּי֙ אֶת־תְּפִלָּתֶ֔ךָ רָאִ֖יתִי אֶת־דִּמְעָתֶ֑ךָ הִנְנִי֙ יוֹסִ֣ף עַל־יָמֶ֔יךָ חֲמֵ֥שׁ עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה שָׁנָֽה׃
πορεύθητι καὶ εἰπὸν Εζεκια τάδε λέγει κύριος ὁ θεὸς Δαυιδ τοῦ πατρός σου ἤκουσα τῆς φωνῆς τῆς προσευχῆς σου καὶ εἶδον τὰ δάκρυά σου ἰδοὺ προστίθημι πρὸς τὸν χρόνον σου ἔτη δέκα πέντε
Vade, et dic Ezechiae : Haec dicit Dominus Deus David patris tui : Audivi orationem tuam, et vidi lacrimas tuas ; ecce ego adjiciam super dies tuos quindecim annos,
ሖር፡ በሎ፡ ለሕዝቅያስ፤ ከመዝ፡ ይቤ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ አምላኩ፡ ለዳዊት፡ አቡከ፤ ሰማዕኩአ፡ ጸሎተከ፡ ወርኢኩአ፡ አንብዐከ፤ ወናሁ፡ ወሰኩከ፡ በዲበ፡ ዓመታቲከ፡ ዐሠርተ፡ ወኃምስተ፡ ዓመተ።
“Go, and tell Hezekiah, ‘Yahweh, the God of David your father, says, “I have heard your prayer. I have seen your tears. Behold, I will add fifteen years to your life.
38:6
וּמִכַּ֤ף מֶֽלֶךְ־אַשּׁוּר֙ אַצִּ֣ילְךָ֔ וְאֵ֖ת הָעִ֣יר הַזֹּ֑את וְגַנּוֹתִ֖י עַל־הָעִ֥יר הַזֹּֽאת׃
καὶ ἐκ χειρὸς βασιλέως Ἀσσυρίων σώσω σε καὶ ὑπὲρ τῆς πόλεως ταύτης ὑπερασπιῶ
et de manu regis Assyriorum eruam te, et civitatem istam, et protegam eam.
ወአድኅነከ፡ እምእዴሆሙ፡ ለነገሥተ፡ ፋርስ፡ ወእቀውም፡ ላቲ፡ ለዛቲ፡ ሀገር።
I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city.
38:7
וְזֶה־לְּךָ֥ הָא֖וֹת מֵאֵ֣ת יְהֹוָ֑ה אֲשֶׁר֙ יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה יְהֹוָ֔ה אֶת־הַדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבֵּֽר׃
τοῦτο δέ σοι τὸ σημεῖον παρὰ κυρίου ὅτι ὁ θεὸς ποιήσει τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο
Hoc autem tibi erit signum a Domino, quia faciet Dominus verbum hoc quod locutus est :
ወዝንቱ፡ ትእምርቱ፡ እምኀበ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ከመ፡ ይግበር፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ዘንተ፡ ነገረ።
This shall be the sign to you from Yahweh, that Yahweh will do this thing that he has spoken.
38:8
הִנְנִ֣י מֵשִׁ֣יב אֶת־צֵ֣ל הַֽמַּעֲל֡וֹת אֲשֶׁ֣ר יָרְדָה֩ בְמַעֲל֨וֹת אָחָ֥ז בַּשֶּׁ֛מֶשׁ אֲחֹרַנִּ֖ית עֶ֣שֶׂר מַעֲל֑וֹת וַתָּ֤שׇׁב הַשֶּׁ֙מֶשׁ֙ עֶ֣שֶׂר מַעֲל֔וֹת בַּֽמַּעֲל֖וֹת אֲשֶׁ֥ר יָרָֽדָה׃ {ס}
τὴν σκιὰν τῶν ἀναβαθμῶν οὓς κατέβη ὁ ἥλιος τοὺς δέκα ἀναβαθμοὺς τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ πατρός σου ἀποστρέψω τὸν ἥλιον τοὺς δέκα ἀναβαθμούς καὶ ἀνέβη ὁ ἥλιος τοὺς δέκα ἀναβαθμούς οὓς κατέβη ἡ σκιά
ecce ego reverti faciam umbram linearum per quas descenderat in horologio Achaz in sole, retrorsum decem lineis. Et reversus est sol decem lineis per gradus quos descenderat.
ናሁ፡ አነ፡ እመይጥ፡ ጽላሎተ፡ መዓርጋት፡ ወሪዶ፡ ዲበ፡ ዐሠርቱ፡ መዓርጋት፡ ዘቤተ፡ አቡከ፤ ወይገብእ፡ ፀሐይ፡ ዲበ፡ መዓርጋት፡ ዐሠርቱ፤ ወየዐርግ፡ ፀሐይ፡ ዲበ፡ ዐሠርቱ፡ መዓርጋት፡ ኀበ፡ ወረደ፡ ዝኩ፡ ጽኩ፡ ጽላሎት።
Behold, I will cause the shadow on the sundial, which has gone down on the sundial of Ahaz with the sun, to return backward ten steps.”’” So the sun returned ten steps on the sundial on which it had gone down.
38:9
מִכְתָּ֖ב לְחִזְקִיָּ֣הוּ מֶלֶךְ־יְהוּדָ֑ה בַּחֲלֹת֕וֹ וַיְחִ֖י מֵחׇלְיֽוֹ׃
προσευχὴ Εζεκιου βασιλέως τῆς Ιουδαίας ἡνίκα ἐμαλακίσθη καὶ ἀνέστη ἐκ τῆς μαλακίας αὐτοῦ
Scriptura Ezechiae, regis Juda, cum aegrotasset et convaluisset de infirmitate sua.
አንሰ፡ እቤ፡ በኑኃ፡ መዋዕልየ፤ ውስተ፡ አናቅጸ፡ ሲኦል፡ አሐውር፤ ወአኀድግ፡ ዘተረፈ፡ ዓመታትየ።
The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and had recovered of his sickness:
38:10
אֲנִ֣י אָמַ֗רְתִּי בִּדְמִ֥י יָמַ֛י אֵלֵ֖כָה בְּשַׁעֲרֵ֣י שְׁא֑וֹל פֻּקַּ֖דְתִּי יֶ֥תֶר שְׁנוֹתָֽי׃
ἐγὼ εἶπα ἐν τῷ ὕψει τῶν ἡμερῶν μου ἐν πύλαις ᾅδου καταλείψω τὰ ἔτη τὰ ἐπίλοιπα
Ego dixi in dimidio dierum meorum : Vadam ad portas inferi ; quaesivi residuum annorum meorum.
ወእቤ፤ ኢይሬኢ፡ እንከ፡ መድኃኒተ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ በምድረ፡ ሕያዋን፤ ወኢይሬኢ፡ እንከ፡ ሰብአ።
I said, “In the middle of my life I go into the gates of Sheol. I am deprived of the residue of my years.”
38:11
אָמַ֙רְתִּי֙ לֹא־אֶרְאֶ֣ה יָ֔הּ יָ֖הּ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ הַחַיִּ֑ים לֹא־אַבִּ֥יט אָדָ֛ם ע֖וֹד עִם־י֥וֹשְׁבֵי חָֽדֶל׃
εἶπα οὐκέτι μὴ ἴδω τὸ σωτήριον τοῦ θεοῦ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς οὐκέτι μὴ ἴδω ἄνθρωπον
Dixi : Non videbo Dominum Deum in terra viventium ; non aspiciam hominem ultra, et habitatorem quietis.
ኀልቀ፡ እምአዝማድየ፡ ወሐጐልኩ፡ ዘተረፈ፡ ሕይወትየ፤ ወፅአት፡ ወኀለፈት፡ እምኔየ፤ ከመ፡ ዘይተክል፡ ወይሥዕር፡ ደብተራሁ፤ ከማሁ፡ ኮነት፡ ነፍስየ፡ በላዕሌየ፡ ከመ፡ ዕጡፈ፡ ፀምር፡ ዘአልጸቀ፡ ይግምድዎ።
I said, “I won’t see Yah, Yah in the land of the living. I will see man no more with the inhabitants of the world.
38:12
דּוֹרִ֗י נִסַּ֧ע וְנִגְלָ֛ה מִנִּ֖י כְּאֹ֣הֶל רֹעִ֑י קִפַּ֨דְתִּי כָאֹרֵ֤ג חַיַּי֙ מִדַּלָּ֣ה יְבַצְּעֵ֔נִי מִיּ֥וֹם עַד־לַ֖יְלָה תַּשְׁלִימֵֽנִי׃
ἐκ τῆς συγγενείας μου κατέλιπον τὸ λοιπὸν τῆς ζωῆς μου ἐξῆλθεν καὶ ἀπῆλθεν ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ ὥσπερ ὁ καταλύων σκηνὴν πήξας τὸ πνεῦμά μου παρ’ ἐμοὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἱστὸς ἐρίθου ἐγγιζούσης ἐκτεμεῖν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ παρεδόθην
Generatio mea ablata est, et convoluta est a me, quasi tabernaculum pastorum. Praecisa est velut a texente vita mea ; dum adhuc ordirer, succidit me : de mane usque ad vesperam finies me.
ውእተ፡ አሚረ፡ ተሀወኩ፡ ከመ፡ አንበሳ፡ እስከ፡ ይጸብሕ፤ ከማሁ፡ ተቀጥቀጣኒ፡ አዕፅምትየ፤ አኀዘኒ፡ እምነግህ፡ እስከ፡ ሰርክ።
My dwelling is removed, and is carried away from me like a shepherd’s tent. I have rolled up my life like a weaver. He will cut me off from the loom. From day even to night you will make an end of me.
38:13
שִׁוִּ֤יתִי עַד־בֹּ֙קֶר֙ כָּאֲרִ֔י כֵּ֥ן יְשַׁבֵּ֖ר כׇּל־עַצְמוֹתָ֑י מִיּ֥וֹם עַד־לַ֖יְלָה תַּשְׁלִימֵֽנִי׃
ἕως πρωὶ ὡς λέοντι οὕτως τὰ ὀστᾶ μου συνέτριψεν ἀπὸ γὰρ τῆς ἡμέρας ἕως τῆς νυκτὸς παρεδόθην
Sperabam usque ad mane ; quasi leo, sic contrivit omnia ossa mea : de mane usque ad vesperam finies me.
ወከመ፡ ማዕነቅ፡ ከማሁ፡ እነቁ፣፡ ወከመ፡ ርግብ፡ ከማሁ፡ እነብብ።
I waited patiently until morning. He breaks all my bones like a lion. From day even to night you will make an end of me.
38:14
כְּס֤וּס עָגוּר֙ כֵּ֣ן אֲצַפְצֵ֔ף אֶהְגֶּ֖ה כַּיּוֹנָ֑ה דַּלּ֤וּ עֵינַי֙ לַמָּר֔וֹם אֲדֹנָ֖י עָֽשְׁקָה־לִּ֥י עׇרְבֵֽנִי׃
ὡς χελιδών οὕτως φωνήσω καὶ ὡς περιστερά οὕτως μελετήσω ἐξέλιπον γάρ μου οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ τοῦ βλέπειν εἰς τὸ ὕψος τοῦ οὐρανοῦ πρὸς τὸν κύριον ὃς ἐξείλατό με
Sicut pullus hirundinis, sic clamabo ; meditabor ut columba. Attenuati sunt oculi mei, suspicientes in excelsum. Domine, vim patior : responde pro me.
እግዚኦ፡ በእንቲአሃ፡ እቤለከ፡ ወአንሣእካ፡ ለነፍስየ፤ ወተፈሣሕኩ፡ ወሐየውኩ።
I chattered like a swallow or a crane. I moaned like a dove. My eyes weaken looking upward. Lord, I am oppressed. Be my security.”
38:15
מָֽה־אֲדַבֵּ֥ר וְאָֽמַר־לִ֖י וְה֣וּא עָשָׂ֑ה אֶדַּדֶּ֥ה כׇל־שְׁנוֹתַ֖י עַל־מַ֥ר נַפְשִֽׁי׃
καὶ ἀφείλατό μου τὴν ὀδύνην τῆς ψυχῆς
Quid dicam, aut quid respondebit mihi, cum ipse fecerit ? Recogitabo tibi omnes annos meos in amaritudine animae meae.
ወተሠሀልካ፡ ለነፍስየ፡ ከመ፡ ኢትትሐጐል፤ ወገደፍከ፡ ድኅሬየ፡ ኵሎ፡ ኃጢአትየ።
What will I say? He has both spoken to me, and himself has done it. I will walk carefully all my years because of the anguish of my soul.
38:16
אֲדֹנָ֖י עֲלֵיהֶ֣ם יִֽחְי֑וּ וּלְכׇל־בָּהֶן֙ חַיֵּ֣י רוּחִ֔י וְתַחֲלִימֵ֖נִי וְהַחֲיֵֽנִי׃
κύριε περὶ αὐτῆς γὰρ ἀνηγγέλη σοι καὶ ἐξήγειράς μου τὴν πνοήν καὶ παρακληθεὶς ἔζησα
Domine, si sic vivitur, et in talibus vita spiritus mei, corripies me, et vivificabis me.
እስመ፡ አኮ፡ እለ፡ ውስተ፡ ሲኦል፡ ዘይሴብሑከ፡ ወአኮ፡ እለ፡ ይመውቱ፡ ዘይባርኩከ፤ ወኢይሴፈው፡ ሣህለከ፡ እለ፡ ውስተ፡ ሲኦል።
Lord, men live by these things; and my spirit finds life in all of them. You restore me, and cause me to live.
38:17
הִנֵּ֥ה לְשָׁל֖וֹם מַר־לִ֣י מָ֑ר וְאַתָּ֞ה חָשַׁ֤קְתָּ נַפְשִׁי֙ מִשַּׁ֣חַת בְּלִ֔י כִּ֥י הִשְׁלַ֛כְתָּ אַחֲרֵ֥י גֵוְךָ֖ כׇּל־חֲטָאָֽי׃
εἵλου γάρ μου τὴν ψυχήν ἵνα μὴ ἀπόληται καὶ ἀπέρριψας ὀπίσω μου πάσας τὰς ἁμαρτίας μου
Ecce in pace amaritudo mea amarissima. Tu autem eruisti animam meam ut non periret ; projecisti post tergum tuum omnia peccata mea.
ዳእሙ፡ ሕያዋን፡ ይባርኩከ፡ በከመ፡ አነ።
Behold, for peace I had great anguish, but you have in love for my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption; for you have cast all my sins behind your back.
38:18
כִּ֣י לֹ֥א שְׁא֛וֹל תּוֹדֶ֖ךָּ מָ֣וֶת יְהַלְלֶ֑ךָּ לֹא־יְשַׂבְּר֥וּ יוֹרְדֵי־ב֖וֹר אֶל־אֲמִתֶּֽךָ׃
οὐ γὰρ οἱ ἐν ᾅδου αἰνέσουσίν σε οὐδὲ οἱ ἀποθανόντες εὐλογήσουσίν σε οὐδὲ ἐλπιοῦσιν οἱ ἐν ᾅδου τὴν ἐλεημοσύνην σου
Quia non infernus confitebitur tibi, neque mors laudabit te : non exspectabunt qui descendunt in lacum veritatem tuam.
እግዚእየ፡ ወመድኃንየ፡ አንተ፣፡ ወአነሂ፡ ኢየኀድግ፡ ባርኮተከ፤ በመዝሙር፡ በኵሉ፡ መዋዕለ፡ ሕይወትየ፡ በቅድመ፡ ቤተ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
For Sheol can’t praise you. Death can’t celebrate you. Those who go down into the pit can’t hope for your truth.
38:19
חַ֥י חַ֛י ה֥וּא יוֹדֶ֖ךָ כָּמ֣וֹנִי הַיּ֑וֹם אָ֣ב לְבָנִ֔ים יוֹדִ֖יעַ אֶל־אֲמִתֶּֽךָ׃
οἱ ζῶντως εὐλογήσουσίν σε ὃν τρόπον κἀγώ ἀπὸ γὰρ τῆς σήμερον παιδία ποιήσω ἃ ἀναγγελοῦσιν τὴν δικαιοσύνην σου
Vivens, vivens ipse confitebitur tibi, sicut et ego hodie ; pater filiis notam faciet veritatem tuam.
ወይቤሎ፡ ኢሳይያስ፡ ለሕዝቅያስ፤ ንሣእ፡ ዐጽቀ፡ በለስ፡ ወሕርፅ፡ ወተቀባእ፡ ወተሐዩ።
The living, the living, he shall praise you, as I do today. The father shall make known your truth to the children.
38:20
יְהֹוָ֖ה לְהוֹשִׁיעֵ֑נִי וּנְגִנוֹתַ֧י נְנַגֵּ֛ן כׇּל־יְמֵ֥י חַיֵּ֖ינוּ עַל־בֵּ֥ית יְהֹוָֽה׃
κύριε τῆς σωτηρίας μου καὶ οὐ παύσομαι εὐλογῶν σε μετὰ ψαλτηρίου πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας τῆς ζωῆς μου κατέναντι τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ θεοῦ
Domine, salvum me fac ! et psalmos nostros cantabimus cunctis diebus vitae nostrae in domo Domini.
ወይቤ፡ ሕዝቅያስ፤ ዝንቱኑ፡ ትእምርቱ፡ ከመ፡ አዕርግ፡ ውስተ፡ ቤተ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
Yahweh will save me. Therefore we will sing my songs with stringed instruments all the days of our life in Yahweh’s house.
38:21
וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְשַֽׁעְיָ֔הוּ יִשְׂא֖וּ דְּבֶ֣לֶת תְּאֵנִ֑ים וְיִמְרְח֥וּ עַֽל־הַשְּׁחִ֖ין וְיֶֽחִי׃
καὶ εἶπεν Ησαιας πρὸς Εζεκιαν λαβὲ παλάθην ἐκ σύκων καὶ τρῖψον καὶ κατάπλασαι καὶ ὑγιὴς ἔσῃ
Et jussit Isaias ut tollerent massam de ficis, et cataplasmarent super vulnus, et sanaretur.
—
Now Isaiah had said, “Let them take a cake of figs, and lay it for a poultice on the boil, and he shall recover.”
38:22
וַיֹּ֥אמֶר חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ מָ֣ה א֑וֹת כִּ֥י אֶעֱלֶ֖ה בֵּ֥ית יְהֹוָֽה׃ {ס}
καὶ εἶπεν Εζεκιας τοῦτο τὸ σημεῖον ὅτι ἀναβήσομαι εἰς τὸν οἶκον κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ
