40:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ נַחֲמ֥וּ נַחֲמ֖וּ עַמִּ֑י יֹאמַ֖ר אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם ׃
παρακαλεῖτε παρακαλεῖτε τὸν λαόν μου λέγει ὁ θεός
Consolamini , consolamini , popule meus , dicit Deus vester .
ገሥጽዎሙ ፡ ለሕዝብየ ፡ ይቤ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ።
“Comfort, comfort my people,” says your God.
40:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ דַּבְּר֞וּ עַל ־לֵ֤ב יְרוּשָׁלַ֙͏ִם֙ וְקִרְא֣וּ אֵלֶ֔יהָ כִּ֤י מָֽלְאָה֙ צְבָאָ֔הּ כִּ֥י נִרְצָ֖ה עֲוֺנָ֑הּ כִּ֤י לָֽקְחָה֙ מִיַּ֣ד יְהֹוָ֔ה כִּפְלַ֖יִם בְּכׇל ־חַטֹּאתֶֽיהָ ׃ {ס}
ἱερεῖς λαλήσατε εἰς τὴν καρδίαν Ιερουσαλημ παρακαλέσατε αὐτήν ὅτι ἐπλήσθη ἡ ταπείνωσις αὐτῆς λέλυται αὐτῆς ἡ ἁμαρτία ὅτι ἐδέξατο ἐκ χειρὸς κυρίου διπλᾶ τὰ ἁμαρτήματα αὐτῆς
Loquimini ad cor Jerusalem , et advocate eam , quoniam completa est malitia ejus , dimissa est iniquitas illius : suscepit de manu Domini duplicia pro omnibus peccatis suis .
ካህናትኒአ ፡ ንብብዋ ፡ ለኢየሩሳሌም ፡ ውስተ ፡ ልባ ፡ ወገሥጽዋ ፡ እስመ ፡ ብዙኅ ፡ ኃሣራ ፤ ተፈትሐ ፡ ኃጢአታ ፡ ወተፈድየት ፡ እምእደ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ካዕበት ”ኃጢአታ ።
“Speak comfortably to Jerusalem, and call out to her that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received of Yahweh’s hand double for all her sins.”
40:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ ק֣וֹל קוֹרֵ֔א בַּמִּדְבָּ֕ר פַּנּ֖וּ דֶּ֣רֶךְ יְהֹוָ֑ה יַשְּׁרוּ֙ בָּעֲרָבָ֔ה מְסִלָּ֖ה לֵאלֹהֵֽינוּ ׃
φωνὴ βοῶντος ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ ἑτοιμάσατε τὴν ὁδὸν κυρίου εὐθείας ποιεῖτε τὰς τρίβους τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν
Vox clamantis in deserto : Parate viam Domini , rectas facite in solitudine semitas Dei nostri .
ቃለ ፡ አዋዲ ፡ በገዳም ፤ ጺሑ ፡ ፍኖተ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ወዐርዩ ፡ መጽያሕቶ ፡ ለአምላክክሙ ።
The voice of one who calls out, “Prepare the way of Yahweh in the wilderness! Make a level highway in the desert for our God.
40:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ כׇּל ־גֶּיא֙ יִנָּשֵׂ֔א וְכׇל ־הַ֥ר וְגִבְעָ֖ה יִשְׁפָּ֑לוּ וְהָיָ֤ה הֶֽעָקֹב֙ לְמִישׁ֔וֹר וְהָרְכָסִ֖ים לְבִקְעָֽה ׃
πᾶσα φάραγξ πληρωθήσεται καὶ πᾶν ὄρος καὶ βουνὸς ταπεινωθήσεται καὶ ἔσται πάντα τὰ σκολιὰ εἰς εὐθεῖαν καὶ ἡ τραχεῖα εἰς πεδία
Omnis vallis exaltabitur , et omnis mons et collis humiliabitur , et erunt prava in directa , et aspera in vias planas :
ኵሉ ፡ ማዕምቅ ፡ ይምላእ ፡ ወኵሉ ፡ ደብር ፡ ወወግር ፡ ይተሐት ፤ ወይኩን ፡ ኵሉ ፡ መብእስ ፡ መጽያሕተ ፡ ወይኩን ፡ ቈላት ፡ ምድረ ፡ ርሒበ ።
Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low. The uneven shall be made level, and the rough places a plain.
40:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְנִגְלָ֖ה כְּב֣וֹד יְהֹוָ֑ה וְרָא֤וּ כׇל ־בָּשָׂר֙ יַחְדָּ֔ו כִּ֛י פִּ֥י יְהֹוָ֖ה דִּבֵּֽר ׃ {פ}
καὶ ὀφθήσεται ἡ δόξα κυρίου καὶ ὄψεται πᾶσα σὰρξ τὸ σωτήριον τοῦ θεοῦ ὅτι κύριος ἐλάλησεν
et revelabitur gloria Domini , et videbit omnis caro pariter quod os Domini locutum est .
ወያስተርኢ ፡ ስብሐተ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ወይርአይ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ዘነፍስ ፡ መድኃኒተ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ እስመ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ነበበ ።
Yahweh’s glory shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of Yahweh has spoken it.”
40:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ ק֚וֹל אֹמֵ֣ר קְרָ֔א וְאָמַ֖ר מָ֣ה אֶקְרָ֑א כׇּל ־הַבָּשָׂ֣ר חָצִ֔יר וְכׇל ־חַסְדּ֖וֹ כְּצִ֥יץ הַשָּׂדֶֽה ׃
φωνὴ λέγοντος βόησον καὶ εἶπα τί βοήσω πᾶσα σὰρξ χόρτος καὶ πᾶσα δόξα ἀνθρώπου ὡς ἄνθος χόρτου
Vox dicentis : Clama . Et dixi : Quid clamabo ? Omnis caro foenum , et omnis gloria ejus quasi flos agri .
ቃለ ፡ ዘይብል ፤ ክላሕ ።
The voice of one saying, “Cry out!” One said, “What shall I cry?” “All flesh is like grass, and all its glory is like the flower of the field.
40:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ יָבֵ֤שׁ חָצִיר֙ נָ֣בֵֽל ־צִ֔יץ כִּ֛י ר֥וּחַ יְהֹוָ֖ה נָ֣שְׁבָה בּ֑וֹ אָכֵ֥ן חָצִ֖יר הָעָֽם ׃
ἐξηράνθη ὁ χόρτος καὶ τὸ ἄνθος ἐξέπεσεν
Exsiccatum est foenum , et cecidit flos , quia spiritus Domini sufflavit in eo . Vere foenum est populus :
ይየብስ ፡ ሣዕሩ ፡ ወይወድቅ ፡ ፍሬሁ ፡ እስመ ፡ መንፈሰ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ይነብብ ፡ ቦቱ ፤ አኮኑ ፡ ሣዕር ፡ ሕዝብ ።
The grass withers, the flower fades, because Yahweh’s breath blows on it. Surely the people are like grass.
40:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ יָבֵ֥שׁ חָצִ֖יר נָ֣בֵֽל צִ֑יץ וּדְבַר ־אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ יָק֥וּם לְעוֹלָֽם ׃ {ס}
τὸ δὲ ῥῆμα τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν μένει εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα
exsiccatum est foenum , et cecidit flos ; verbum autem Domini nostri manet in aeternum .
ይየብስ ፡ ሣዕር ፡ ወይትነገፍ ፡ ጽጌ ፣፡ ወቃለ ፡ እግዚአብሔርሰ ፡ ይነብር ፡ ለዓለም ።
The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God stands forever.”
40:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ עַ֣ל הַר ־גָּבֹ֤הַּ עֲלִי ־לָךְ֙ מְבַשֶּׂ֣רֶת צִיּ֔וֹן הָרִ֤ימִי בַכֹּ֙חַ֙ קוֹלֵ֔ךְ מְבַשֶּׂ֖רֶת יְרוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם הָרִ֙ימִי֙ אַל ־תִּירָ֔אִי אִמְרִי֙ לְעָרֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֔ה הִנֵּ֖ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם ׃
ἐπ’ ὄρος ὑψηλὸν ἀνάβηθι ὁ εὐαγγελιζόμενος Σιων ὕψωσον τῇ ἰσχύι τὴν φωνήν σου ὁ εὐαγγελιζόμενος Ιερουσαλημ ὑψώσατε μὴ φοβεῖσθε εἰπὸν ταῖς πόλεσιν Ιουδα ἰδοὺ ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν
Super montem excelsum ascende , tu qui evangelizas Sion ; exalta in fortitudine vocem tuam , qui evangelizas Jerusalem : exalta , noli timere . Dic civitatibus Juda : Ecce Deus vester :
ውስተ ፡ ደብር ፡ ነዋኅ ፡ ይዕርግ ፡ ዘይዜንዋ ፡ ለጽዮን ፤ ክላሕ ፡ በኃይልከ ፡ ወአንሥእ ፡ ቃለከ ፡ ዘትዜንዋ ፡ ለኢየሩሳሌም ።
You who tell good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who tell good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with strength! Lift it up! Don’t be afraid! Say to the cities of Judah, “Behold, your God!”
40:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ הִנֵּ֨ה אֲדֹנָ֤י יֱהֹוִה֙ בְּחָזָ֣ק יָב֔וֹא וּזְרֹע֖וֹ מֹ֣שְׁלָה ל֑וֹ הִנֵּ֤ה שְׂכָרוֹ֙ אִתּ֔וֹ וּפְעֻלָּת֖וֹ לְפָנָֽיו ׃
ἰδοὺ κύριος μετὰ ἰσχύος ἔρχεται καὶ ὁ βραχίων μετὰ κυριείας ἰδοὺ ὁ μισθὸς αὐτοῦ μετ’ αὐτοῦ καὶ τὸ ἔργον ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ
ecce Dominus Deus in fortitudine veniet , et brachium ejus dominabitur : ecce merces ejus cum eo , et opus illius coram illo .
ወነዋ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ።
Behold, the Lord Yahweh will come as a mighty one, and his arm will rule for him. Behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him.
40:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ כְּרֹעֶה֙ עֶדְר֣וֹ יִרְעֶ֔ה בִּזְרֹעוֹ֙ יְקַבֵּ֣ץ טְלָאִ֔ים וּבְחֵיק֖וֹ יִשָּׂ֑א עָל֖וֹת יְנַהֵֽל ׃ {ס}
ὡς ποιμὴν ποιμανεῖ τὸ ποίμνιον αὐτοῦ καὶ τῷ βραχίονι αὐτοῦ συνάξει ἄρνας καὶ ἐν γαστρὶ ἐχούσας παρακαλέσει
Sicut pastor gregem suum pascet , in brachio suo congregabit agnos , et in sinu suo levabit ; foetas ipse portabit .
ከመ ፡ ኖላዊ ፡ ዘይሬዒ ፡ አባግዒሁ ፡ ወያስተጋብኦሙ ፡ ለአባግዕ ፡ በመዝራዕቱ ፡ ወያስተፌሥሖን ፡ ለፅኑሳት ።
He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will gather the lambs in his arm, and carry them in his bosom. He will gently lead those who have their young.
40:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ מִי ־מָדַ֨ד בְּשׇׁעֳל֜וֹ מַ֗יִם וְשָׁמַ֙יִם֙ בַּזֶּ֣רֶת תִּכֵּ֔ן וְכָ֥ל בַּשָּׁלִ֖שׁ עֲפַ֣ר הָאָ֑רֶץ וְשָׁקַ֤ל בַּפֶּ֙לֶס֙ הָרִ֔ים וּגְבָע֖וֹת בְּמֹאזְנָֽיִם ׃
τίς ἐμέτρησεν τῇ χειρὶ τὸ ὕδωρ καὶ τὸν οὐρανὸν σπιθαμῇ καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν δρακί τίς ἔστησεν τὰ ὄρη σταθμῷ καὶ τὰς νάπας ζυγῷ
Quis mensus est pugillo aquas , et caelos palmo ponderavit ? quis appendit tribus digitis molem terrae , et libravit in pondere montes , et colles in statera ?
መኑ ፡ ዘሰፈሮ ፡ ለማይ ፡ በሕፍኑ ፡ ወለሰማይኒ ፡ በስዝሩ ፡ ወዘአኀዛ ፡ ለኵላ ፡ ምድር ፤ መኑ ፡ አቀሞሙ ፡ ለአድባር ፡ በመዳልው ፡ ወለአውግርኒ ፡ በመድሎት ።
Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and marked off the sky with his span, and calculated the dust of the earth in a measuring basket, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?
40:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ מִֽי ־תִכֵּ֥ן אֶת ־ר֖וּחַ יְהֹוָ֑ה וְאִ֖ישׁ עֲצָת֥וֹ יוֹדִיעֶֽנּוּ ׃
τίς ἔγνω νοῦν κυρίου καὶ τίς αὐτοῦ σύμβουλος ἐγένετο ὃς συμβιβᾷ αὐτόν
Quis adjuvit spiritum Domini ? aut quis consiliarius ejus fuit , et ostendit illi ?
መኑ ፡ አእመረ ፡ ሕሊናሁ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ፡ ወመኑ ፡ መማክርቲሁ ፡ ዘአምከሮ ።
Who has directed Yahweh’s Spirit, or has taught him as his counselor?
40:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ אֶת ־מִ֤י נוֹעָץ֙ וַיְבִינֵ֔הוּ וַֽיְלַמְּדֵ֖הוּ בְּאֹ֣רַח מִשְׁפָּ֑ט וַיְלַמְּדֵ֣הוּ דַ֔עַת וְדֶ֥רֶךְ תְּבוּנ֖וֹת יוֹדִיעֶֽנּוּ ׃
ἢ πρὸς τίνα συνεβουλεύσατο καὶ συνεβίβασεν αὐτόν ἢ τίς ἔδειξεν αὐτῷ κρίσιν ἢ ὁδὸν συνέσεως τίς ἔδειξεν αὐτῷ
cum quo iniit consilium , et instruxit eum , et docuit eum semitam justitiae , et erudivit eum scientiam , et viam prudentiae ostendit illi ?
ወምስለ ፡ መኑ ፡ ተማከረ ፡ ወአምከሮ ፤ ወመኑ ፡ አርአዮ ፡ ፍትሐ ፤ ወፍኖተ ፡ ጥበብኒ ፡ መኑ ፡ አርአዮ ።
Who did he take counsel with, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed him the way of understanding?
40:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ הֵ֤ן גּוֹיִם֙ כְּמַ֣ר מִדְּלִ֔י וּכְשַׁ֥חַק מֹאזְנַ֖יִם נֶחְשָׁ֑בוּ הֵ֥ן אִיִּ֖ים כַּדַּ֥ק יִטּֽוֹל ׃
εἰ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ὡς σταγὼν ἀπὸ κάδου καὶ ὡς ῥοπὴ ζυγοῦ ἐλογίσθησαν καὶ ὡς σίελος λογισθήσονται
Ecce gentes quasi stilla situlae , et quasi momentum staterae reputatae sunt ; ecce insulae quasi pulvis exiguus .
ኵሎሙ ፡ አሕዛብ ፡ ከመ ፡ ነጥበ ፡ ማሕየብ ፡ ወከመ ፡ እንተ ፡ ታገብእ ፡ ዐይነ ፡ መዳልው ፡ እሙንቱ ፣፡ ከመ ፡ ወኢምንት ፡ እሙንቱ ።
Behold, the nations are like a drop in a bucket, and are regarded as a speck of dust on a balance. Behold, he lifts up the islands like a very little thing.
40:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ וּלְבָנ֕וֹן אֵ֥ין דֵּ֖י בָּעֵ֑ר וְחַ֨יָּת֔וֹ אֵ֥ין דֵּ֖י עוֹלָֽה ׃ {פ}
ὁ δὲ Λίβανος οὐχ ἱκανὸς εἰς καῦσιν καὶ πάντα τὰ τετράποδα οὐχ ἱκανὰ εἰς ὁλοκάρπωσιν
Et Libanus non sufficiet ad succendendum , et animalia ejus non sufficient ad holocaustum .
ወኢየአክል ፡ ሊባኖስ ፡ ለአንድዶ ፣፡ ወኵሉ ፡ እንስሳ ፡ ኢየአክል ፡ ለአቃርዮ ።
Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor its animals sufficient for a burnt offering.
40:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ כׇּל ־הַגּוֹיִ֖ם כְּאַ֣יִן נֶגְדּ֑וֹ מֵאֶ֥פֶס וָתֹ֖הוּ נֶחְשְׁבוּ ־לֽוֹ ׃
καὶ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ὡς οὐδέν εἰσι καὶ εἰς οὐθὲν ἐλογίσθησαν
Omnes gentes quasi non sint , sic sunt coram eo , et quasi nihilum et inane reputatae sunt ei .
ወኵሎሙ ፡ አሕዛብ ፡ ከመ ፡ ወኢምንት ፡ ወከመ ፡ ዘኢሀለዉ ፡ ይመስሉ ።
All the nations are like nothing before him. They are regarded by him as less than nothing, and vanity.
40:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְאֶל ־מִ֖י תְּדַמְּי֣וּן אֵ֑ל וּמַה ־דְּמ֖וּת תַּ֥עַרְכוּ לֽוֹ ׃
τίνι ὡμοιώσατε κύριον καὶ τίνι ὁμοιώματι ὡμοιώσατε αὐτόν
Cui ergo similem fecisti Deum ? aut quam imaginem ponetis ei ?
በመኑ ፡ ታስተማስልዎ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ፤ ወበአምሳለ ፡ መኑ ፡ ታስተዐርይዎ ።
To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare to him?
40:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ הַפֶּ֙סֶל֙ נָסַ֣ךְ חָרָ֔שׁ וְצֹרֵ֖ף בַּזָּהָ֣ב יְרַקְּעֶ֑נּוּ וּרְתֻק֥וֹת כֶּ֖סֶף צוֹרֵֽף ׃
μὴ εἰκόνα ἐποίησεν τέκτων ἢ χρυσοχόος χωνεύσας χρυσίον περιεχρύσωσεν αὐτόν ὁμοίωμα κατεσκεύασεν αὐτόν
Numquid sculptile conflavit faber ? aut aurifex auro figuravit illud , et laminis argenteis argentarius ?
በምስልኑ ፡ ዘገብሮ ፡ ጸራቢ ፤ ወሚመ ፡ በወርቅኑ ፡ ዘሰበኮ ፡ ነሃቢ ፤ ቀዘቀፈሎ ፡ በወርቅ ፡ ወገብሮ ፡ ወመሰሎ ።
A workman has cast an image, and the goldsmith overlays it with gold, and casts silver chains for it.
40:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ הַֽמְסֻכָּ֣ן תְּרוּמָ֔ה עֵ֥ץ לֹא ־יִרְקַ֖ב יִבְחָ֑ר חָרָ֤שׁ חָכָם֙ יְבַקֶּשׁ ־ל֔וֹ לְהָכִ֥ין פֶּ֖סֶל לֹ֥א יִמּֽוֹט ׃ {ס}
ξύλον γὰρ ἄσηπτον ἐκλέγεται τέκτων καὶ σοφῶς ζητεῖ πῶς στήσει αὐτοῦ εἰκόνα καὶ ἵνα μὴ σαλεύηται
Forte lignum et imputribile elegit ; artifex sapiens quaerit quomodo statuat simulacrum , quod non moveatur .
እስመ ፡ ዕፀ ፡ ዘኢይነቅዝ ፡ የኀሪ ፡ ሎቱ ፡ ጸራቢ ፡ ወበጥበቡ ፡ ያኀሥሥ ፡ ዘከመ ፡ ያቀውም ፡ ምስለ ፡ ከመ ፡ ኢያንቀልቅል ።
He who is too impoverished for such an offering chooses a tree that will not rot. He seeks a skillful workman to set up a carved image for him that will not be moved.
40:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ הֲל֤וֹא תֵֽדְעוּ֙ הֲל֣וֹא תִשְׁמָ֔עוּ הֲל֛וֹא הֻגַּ֥ד מֵרֹ֖אשׁ לָכֶ֑ם הֲלוֹא֙ הֲבִ֣ינוֹתֶ֔ם מוֹסְד֖וֹת הָאָֽרֶץ ׃
οὐ γνώσεσθε οὐκ ἀκούσεσθε οὐκ ἀνηγγέλη ἐξ ἀρχῆς ὑμῖν οὐκ ἔγνωτε τὰ θεμέλια τῆς γῆς
Numquid non scitis ? numquid non audistis ? numquid non annuntiatum est vobis ab initio ? numquid non intellexistis fundamenta terrae ?
ወኢያእመርክሙኒ ፤ ወኢሰማዕክሙኑ ፤ ወኢነገረክሙኑ ፡ ዘትካት ፤ ወኢያእመርክሙኑ ፡ መሠረተ ፡ ምድር ።
Haven’t you known? Haven’t you heard? Haven’t you been told from the beginning? Haven’t you understood from the foundations of the earth?
40:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ הַיֹּשֵׁב֙ עַל ־ח֣וּג הָאָ֔רֶץ וְיֹשְׁבֶ֖יהָ כַּחֲגָבִ֑ים הַנּוֹטֶ֤ה כַדֹּק֙ שָׁמַ֔יִם וַיִּמְתָּחֵ֥ם כָּאֹ֖הֶל לָשָֽׁבֶת ׃
ὁ κατέχων τὸν γῦρον τῆς γῆς καὶ οἱ ἐνοικοῦντες ἐν αὐτῇ ὡς ἀκρίδες ὁ στήσας ὡς καμάραν τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ διατείνας ὡς σκηνὴν κατοικεῖν
Qui sedet super gyrum terrae , et habitatores ejus sunt quasi locustae ; qui extendit velut nihilum caelos , et expandit eos sicut tabernaculum ad inhabitandum ;
ዘያጸንዕ ፡ አጽናፈ ፡ ምድር ፡ ወእለሂ ፡ ይነብሩ ፡ ውስቴታ ፡ ከመ ፡ አንበጣ ።
It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in,
40:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ הַנּוֹתֵ֥ן רוֹזְנִ֖ים לְאָ֑יִן שֹׁ֥פְטֵי אֶ֖רֶץ כַּתֹּ֥הוּ עָשָֽׂה ׃
ὁ διδοὺς ἄρχοντας εἰς οὐδὲν ἄρχειν τὴν δὲ γῆν ὡς οὐδὲν ἐποίησεν
qui dat secretorum scrutatores quasi non sint , judices terrae velut inane fecit .
ወይሬስዮሙ ፡ ለመላእክት ፡ ከመ ፡ አልቦ ፡ ዘይትኴነን ፡ ሎሙ ፤ ወገብራ ፡ ለምድር ፡ እምኀበ ፡ ወኢምንት ።
who brings princes to nothing, who makes the judges of the earth meaningless.
40:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ אַ֣ף בַּל ־נִטָּ֗עוּ אַ֚ף בַּל ־זֹרָ֔עוּ אַ֛ף בַּל ־שֹׁרֵ֥שׁ בָּאָ֖רֶץ גִּזְעָ֑ם וְגַם ־נָשַׁ֤ף בָּהֶם֙ וַיִּבָ֔שׁוּ וּסְעָרָ֖ה כַּקַּ֥שׁ תִּשָּׂאֵֽם ׃ {ס}
οὐ γὰρ μὴ σπείρωσιν οὐδὲ μὴ φυτεύσωσιν οὐδὲ μὴ ῥιζωθῇ εἰς τὴν γῆν ἡ ῥίζα αὐτῶν ἔπνευσεν ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς καὶ ἐξηράνθησαν καὶ καταιγὶς ὡς φρύγανα ἀναλήμψεται αὐτούς
Et quidem neque plantatus , neque satus , neque radicatus in terra truncus eorum ; repente flavit in eos , et aruerunt , et turbo quasi stipulam auferet eos .
ኢይተክሉ ፡ ወኢይዘርኡ ፡ ወኢበቍለ ፡ ሥርዎሙ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ምድር ።
They are planted scarcely. They are sown scarcely. Their stock has scarcely taken root in the ground. He merely blows on them, and they wither, and the whirlwind takes them away as stubble.
40:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְאֶל ־מִ֥י תְדַמְּי֖וּנִי וְאֶשְׁוֶ֑ה יֹאמַ֖ר קָדֽוֹשׁ ׃
νῦν οὖν τίνι με ὡμοιώσατε καὶ ὑψωθήσομαι εἶπεν ὁ ἅγιος
Et cui assimilastis me , et adaequastis ? dicit Sanctus .
ወይእዜኒ ፡ በመኑ ፡ ታስተማስሉኒ ፡ ወእትሜካሕ ፡ ይቤ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ቅዱስ ።
“To whom then will you liken me? Who is my equal?” says the Holy One.
40:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ שְׂאוּ ־מָר֨וֹם עֵינֵיכֶ֤ם וּרְאוּ֙ מִֽי ־בָרָ֣א אֵ֔לֶּה הַמּוֹצִ֥יא בְמִסְפָּ֖ר צְבָאָ֑ם לְכֻלָּם֙ בְּשֵׁ֣ם יִקְרָ֔א מֵרֹ֤ב אוֹנִים֙ וְאַמִּ֣יץ כֹּ֔חַ אִ֖ישׁ לֹ֥א נֶעְדָּֽר ׃ {ס}
ἀναβλέψατε εἰς ὕψος τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς ὑμῶν καὶ ἴδετε τίς κατέδειξεν πάντα ταῦτα ὁ ἐκφέρων κατὰ ἀριθμὸν τὸν κόσμον αὐτοῦ πάντας ἐπ’ ὀνόματι καλέσει ἀπὸ πολλῆς δόξης καὶ ἐν κράτει ἰσχύος οὐδέν σε ἔλαθεν
Levate in excelsum oculos vestros , et videte quis creavit haec : qui educit in numero militiam eorum , et omnes ex nomine vocat ; prae multitudine fortitudinis et roboris , virtutisque ejus , neque unum reliquum fuit .
አንሥኡ ፡ አዕይንቲክሙ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ሰማይ ፡ ወርእዩ ፡ መኑ ፡ ገብረ ፡ ዘንተ ፡ ኵሎ ፤ ዘይኌልቆሙ ፡ ለከዋክብት ፡ ወያመጽኦሙ ፡ በዕድሜሆሙ ፡ ወይጼውዖሙ ፡ ለኵሎሙ ፡ በበአስማቲሆሙ ፡ በብዝኀ ፡ ስብሐቲሁ ፡ ወበጽንዐ ፡ ኃይሉ ፡ ወአልቦ ፡ ዘተረስዐከ ።
Lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these, who brings out their army by number. He calls them all by name. By the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power, not one is lacking.
40:27 ⧉ ⤴︎ לָ֤מָּה תֹאמַר֙ יַעֲקֹ֔ב וּתְדַבֵּ֖ר יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל נִסְתְּרָ֤ה דַרְכִּי֙ מֵיְהֹוָ֔ה וּמֵאֱלֹהַ֖י מִשְׁפָּטִ֥י יַעֲבֽוֹר ׃
μὴ γὰρ εἴπῃς Ιακωβ καὶ τί ἐλάλησας Ισραηλ ἀπεκρύβη ἡ ὁδός μου ἀπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ὁ θεός μου τὴν κρίσιν ἀφεῖλεν καὶ ἀπέστη
Quare dicis , Jacob , et loqueris , Israël : Abscondita est via mea a Domino , et a Deo meo judicium meum transivit ?
ቦኑ ፡ ትብሉ ፡ ያዕቆብ ፡ ወምንተ ፡ ነበብከኒ ፡ እስራኤል ፤ ተኀብአት ፡ ፍኖትየ ፡ እምእግዚአብሔር ፣፡ ወርኅቀ ፡ አምላኪየ ፡ እምኔየ ፡ ወኀደገ ፡ ፍትሕየ ።
Why do you say, Jacob, and speak, Israel, “My way is hidden from Yahweh, and the justice due me is disregarded by my God”?
40:28 ⧉ ⤴︎ הֲל֨וֹא יָדַ֜עְתָּ אִם ־לֹ֣א שָׁמַ֗עְתָּ אֱלֹהֵ֨י עוֹלָ֤ם ׀יְהֹוָה֙ בּוֹרֵא֙ קְצ֣וֹת הָאָ֔רֶץ לֹ֥א יִיעַ֖ף וְלֹ֣א יִיגָ֑ע אֵ֥ין חֵ֖קֶר לִתְבוּנָתֽוֹ ׃
καὶ νῦν οὐκ ἔγνως εἰ μὴ ἤκουσας θεὸς αἰώνιος ὁ θεὸς ὁ κατασκευάσας τὰ ἄκρα τῆς γῆς οὐ πεινάσει οὐδὲ κοπιάσει οὐδὲ ἔστιν ἐξεύρεσις τῆς φρονήσεως αὐτοῦ
Numquid nescis , aut non audisti ? Deus sempiternus Dominus , qui creavit terminos terrae : non deficiet , neque laborabit , nec est investigatio sapientiae ejus .
ወይእዜኒ ፡ ኢያእመርክሙኑ ፡ ወኢሰማዕክሙኑ ፡ ከመ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ አምላክ ፡ ዘለዓለም ፤ አምላክ ፡ ዘፈጠረ ፡ አጽናፈ ፡ ምድር ፡ ኢይርኅብ ፡ ወኢይደክም ፡ ወአልቦ ፡ ዘየአምር ፡ ምክሮ ።
Haven’t you known? Haven’t you heard? The everlasting God, Yahweh, the Creator of the ends of the earth, doesn’t faint. He isn’t weary. His understanding is unsearchable.
40:29 ⧉ ⤴︎ נֹתֵ֥ן לַיָּעֵ֖ף כֹּ֑חַ וּלְאֵ֥ין אוֹנִ֖ים עׇצְמָ֥ה יַרְבֶּֽה ׃
διδοὺς τοῖς πεινῶσιν ἰσχὺν καὶ τοῖς μὴ ὀδυνωμένοις λύπην
Qui dat lasso virtutem , et his qui non sunt , fortitudinem et robur multiplicat .
ወይሁቦሙ ፡ ኃይለ ፡ ለርኁባን ፡ ወኢያቴክዞሙ ፡ ለእለ ፡ የሐምሙ ።
He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.
40:30 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְיִעֲפ֥וּ נְעָרִ֖ים וְיִגָ֑עוּ וּבַחוּרִ֖ים כָּשׁ֥וֹל יִכָּשֵֽׁלוּ ׃
πεινάσουσιν γὰρ νεώτεροι καὶ κοπιάσουσιν νεανίσκοι καὶ ἐκλεκτοὶ ἀνίσχυες ἔσονται
Deficient pueri , et laborabunt , et juvenes in infirmitate cadent ;
ይርኅቡ ፡ መሐዛት ፡ ወይደክሙ ፡ ወራዙት ፡ ወይፀብሱ ፡ ጽኑዓን ።
Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall;
40:31 ⧉ ⤴︎ וְקוֹיֵ֤ יְהֹוָה֙ יַחֲלִ֣יפוּ כֹ֔חַ יַעֲל֥וּ אֵ֖בֶר כַּנְּשָׁרִ֑ים יָר֙וּצוּ֙ וְלֹ֣א יִיגָ֔עוּ יֵלְכ֖וּ וְלֹ֥א יִיעָֽפוּ ׃ {ס}
οἱ δὲ ὑπομένοντες τὸν θεὸν ἀλλάξουσιν ἰσχύν πτεροφυήσουσιν ὡς ἀετοί δραμοῦνται καὶ οὐ κοπιάσουσιν βαδιοῦνται καὶ οὐ πεινάσουσιν
qui autem sperant in Domino mutabunt fortitudinem , assument pennas sicut aquilae : current et non laborabunt , ambulabunt et non deficient .
እለሰ ፡ ይሴፈውዎ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ፡ ይሔድሱ ፡ ኃይሎሙ ፡ ወይበቍሉ ፡ ክነፊሆሙ ፡ ከመ ፡ አንስርት ፣፡ ወይረውጹ ፡ ወኢይደክሙ ፤ የሐውሩ ፡ ወኢይርኅቡ ።
but those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.
