20:1
וַ֭יַּעַן צֹפַ֥ר הַֽנַּעֲמָתִ֗י וַיֹּאמַֽר׃
ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Σωφαρ ὁ Μιναῖος λέγει
Respondens autem Sophar Naamathites, dixit :
ወእደ፡ ተናገረ፡ ሳፍር፡ አሜናዊ፡ ተሠጥወ።
Then Zophar the Naamathite answered,
20:2
לָ֭כֵן שְׂעִפַּ֣י יְשִׁיב֑וּנִי וּ֝בַעֲב֗וּר ח֣וּשִׁי בִֽי׃
οὐχ οὕτως ὑπελάμβανον ἀντερεῖν σε ταῦτα καὶ οὐχὶ συνίετε μᾶλλον ἢ καὶ ἐγώ
Idcirco cogitationes meae variae succedunt sibi, et mens in diversa rapitur.
ወይቤ፡ ኢሐዘብኩከ፡ ትንብብ፡ ዘከመዝ፡ ወአልቦ፡ ዘትኄይስ፡ እምኔየ፡ አእምሮ።
“Therefore my thoughts answer me, even by reason of my haste that is in me.
20:3
מוּסַ֣ר כְּלִמָּתִ֣י אֶשְׁמָ֑ע וְ֝ר֗וּחַ מִֽבִּינָתִ֥י יַעֲנֵֽנִי׃
παιδείαν ἐντροπῆς μου ἀκούσομαι καὶ πνεῦμα ἐκ τῆς συνέσεως ἀποκρίνεταί μοι
Doctrinam qua me arguis audiam, et spiritus intelligentiae meae respondebit mihi.
ስምዓኒ፡ እንግርከ፡ ጥበበ፡ ትምህርትየ፡ ወጣወሥአኒ፡ መንፈሰ፡ ሕሊናየ።
I have heard the reproof which puts me to shame. The spirit of my understanding answers me.
20:4
הֲזֹ֣את יָ֭דַעְתָּ מִנִּי־עַ֑ד מִנִּ֤י שִׂ֖ים אָדָ֣ם עֲלֵי־אָֽרֶץ׃
μὴ ταῦτα ἔγνως ἀπὸ τοῦ ἔτι ἀφ’ οὗ ἐτέθη ἄνθρωπος ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς
Hoc scio a principio, ex quo positus est homo super terram,
ቦኑ፡ ዘተአምር፡ ዘከመዝ፡ እምቅድሜሁ፡ ወእምእሜከ፡ ወእምድኅሬከ፡ ወእምእመ፡ ተፈጥረ፡ ዓለም።
Don’t you know this from old time, since man was placed on earth,
20:5
כִּ֤י רִנְנַ֣ת רְ֭שָׁעִים מִקָּר֑וֹב וְשִׂמְחַ֖ת חָנֵ֣ף עֲדֵי־רָֽגַע׃
εὐφροσύνη γὰρ ἀσεβῶν πτῶμα ἐξαίσιον χαρμονὴ δὲ παρανόμων ἀπώλεια
quod laus impiorum brevis sit, et gaudium hypocritae ad instar puncti.
ፍሥሓሆሙ፡ ለኃጥአን፡ ቀትል፡ ዓቢይ፡ ወኃሤቶሙ፡ ለረሲዓን፡ ኅጕል።
that the triumphing of the wicked is short, the joy of the godless but for a moment?
20:6
אִם־יַעֲלֶ֣ה לַשָּׁמַ֣יִם שִׂיא֑וֹ וְ֝רֹאשׁ֗וֹ לָעָ֥ב יַגִּֽיעַ׃
ἐὰν ἀναβῇ εἰς οὐρανὸν αὐτοῦ τὰ δῶρα ἡ δὲ θυσία αὐτοῦ νεφῶν ἅψηται
Si ascenderit usque ad caelum superbia ejus, et caput ejus nubes tetigerit,
ወአመ፡ ይቤ፡ ወዳእኩ፡ ጻናዕኩ፡ እሜሃ፡ ይትሐጐል፡ ለዝሉፉ፡ ወይብሉ፡ እለ፡ የአምርዎ፡ አይቴ፡ ሀሎ።
Though his height mount up to the heavens, and his head reach to the clouds,
20:7
כְּֽ֭גֶלְלוֹ לָנֶ֣צַח יֹאבֵ֑ד רֹ֝אָ֗יו יֹאמְר֥וּ אַיּֽוֹ׃
ὅταν γὰρ δοκῇ ἤδη κατεστηρίχθαι τότε εἰς τέλος ἀπολεῖται οἱ δὲ ἰδόντες αὐτὸν ἐροῦσιν ποῦ ἐστιν
quasi sterquilinium in fine perdetur, et qui eum viderant, dicent : Ubi est ?
እመኒ፡ ዓርገ፡ ሰማየ፡ ቊርባኑ፡ ወበጽሐ፡ እስከ፡ ደመና፡ መሥዋዕቱ።
yet he will perish forever like his own dung. Those who have seen him will say, ‘Where is he?’
20:8
כַּחֲל֣וֹם יָ֭עוּף וְלֹ֣א יִמְצָא֑וּהוּ וְ֝יֻדַּ֗ד כְּחֶזְי֥וֹן לָֽיְלָה׃
ὥσπερ ἐνύπνιον ἐκπετασθὲν οὐ μὴ εὑρεθῇ ἔπτη δὲ ὥσπερ φάσμα νυκτερινόν
Velut somnium avolans non invenietur : transiet sicut visio nocturna.
ወሠረረ፡ ከመ፡ ሐልዎ፡ ወኢትረከብ፡ ወያስተርኢ፡ ከመ፡ ሕልመ፡ ሌሊተ፡ ዘኢይትዓወቅ፡ ወይመስል፡ ጽባሐ።
He will fly away as a dream, and will not be found. Yes, he will be chased away like a vision of the night.
20:9
עַ֣יִן שְׁ֭זָפַתּוּ וְלֹ֣א תוֹסִ֑יף וְלֹֽא־ע֝֗וֹד תְּשׁוּרֶ֥נּוּ מְקוֹמֽוֹ׃
ὀφθαλμὸς παρέβλεψεν καὶ οὐ προσθήσει καὶ οὐκέτι προσνοήσει αὐτὸν ὁ τόπος αὐτοῦ
Oculus qui eum viderat non videbit, neque ultra intuebitur eum locus suus.
ወርእዮቶ፡ ዓይን፡ ኢትጸግብ፡ እንከ፡ ወዚየአምር፡ እንከ፡ መካኖ።
The eye which saw him will see him no more, neither will his place see him any more.
20:10
בָּ֭נָיו יְרַצּ֣וּ דַלִּ֑ים וְ֝יָדָ֗יו תָּשֵׁ֥בְנָה אוֹנֽוֹ׃
τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ ὀλέσαισαν ἥττονες αἱ δὲ χεῖρες αὐτοῦ πυρσεύσαισαν ὀδύνας
Filii ejus atterentur egestate, et manus illius reddent ei dolorem suum.
ወታጠፍእዎሙ፡ ለውሉዱ፡ ትሑታን፡ ወእደዊሁኒ፡ እሳተ፡ ይነፍሓ።
His children will seek the favor of the poor. His hands will give back his wealth.
20:11
עַ֭צְמוֹתָיו מָלְא֣וּ עֲלוּמָ֑ו וְ֝עִמּ֗וֹ עַל־עָפָ֥ר תִּשְׁכָּֽב׃
ὀστᾶ αὐτοῦ ἐνεπλήσθησαν νεότητος αὐτοῦ καὶ μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ χώματος κοιμηθήσεται
Ossa ejus implebuntur vitiis adolescentiae ejus, et cum eo in pulvere dormient.
ወይመልእ፡ ፃዕር፡ ውስተ፡ አዕፅምቲሁ፡ ወጥሰክብ፡ ሕማሙ፡ ውስተ፡ መሬት።
His bones are full of his youth, but youth will lie down with him in the dust.
20:12
אִם־תַּמְתִּ֣יק בְּפִ֣יו רָעָ֑ה יַ֝כְחִידֶ֗נָּה תַּ֣חַת לְשֹׁנֽוֹ׃
ἐὰν γλυκανθῇ ἐν στόματι αὐτοῦ κακία κρύψει αὐτὴν ὑπὸ τὴν γλῶσσαν αὐτοῦ
Cum enim dulce fuerit in ore ejus malum, abscondet illud sub lingua sua.
እስመ፡ ጥዕመቶ፡ አኪት፡ ውስተ፡ አፍሁ፡ ወየኃብኣ፡ ታሕተ፡ ልሳኑ።
“Though wickedness is sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue,
20:13
יַחְמֹ֣ל עָ֭לֶיהָ וְלֹ֣א יַעַזְבֶ֑נָּה וְ֝יִמְנָעֶ֗נָּה בְּת֣וֹךְ חִכּֽוֹ׃
οὐ φείσεται αὐτῆς καὶ οὐκ ἐγκαταλείψει αὐτὴν καὶ συνέξει αὐτὴν ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ λάρυγγος αὐτοῦ
Parcet illi, et non derelinquet illud, et celabit in gutture suo.
ወሊሳዩ፡ ውስተ፡ ከርሡ፡ ትትገፈታዕ፡ ወያስተጋብእ፡ ማዕከለ፡ ጕርዔሁ።
though he spare it, and will not let it go, but keep it still within his mouth,
20:14
לַ֭חְמוֹ בְּמֵעָ֣יו נֶהְפָּ֑ךְ מְרוֹרַ֖ת פְּתָנִ֣ים בְּקִרְבּֽוֹ׃
καὶ οὐ μὴ δυνηθῇ βοηθῆσαι ἑαυτῷ χολὴ ἀσπίδος ἐν γαστρὶ αὐτοῦ
Panis ejus in utero illius vertetur in fel aspidum intrinsecus.
ወኢትክል፡ ትርድኦ፡ ወሕምዘ፡ አርዌ፡ ምድር፡ ታሕተ፡ ከናፍሪሁ።
yet his food in his bowels is turned. It is cobra venom within him.
20:15
חַ֣יִל בָּ֭לַע וַיְקִאֶ֑נּוּ מִ֝בִּטְנ֗וֹ יֹרִשֶׁ֥נּוּ אֵֽל׃
πλοῦτος ἀδίκως συναγόμενος ἐξεμεσθήσεται ἐξ οἰκίας αὐτοῦ ἐξελκύσει αὐτὸν ἄγγελος
Divitias quas devoravit evomet, et de ventre illius extrahet eas Deus.
ብዕል፡ ዘይዘገብ፡ በዓመፃ፡ ይደመሰስ፡ ወያቴክሎ፡ መልአክ፡ ሞት፡ እምቤቱ።
He has swallowed down riches, and he will vomit them up again. God will cast them out of his belly.
20:16
רֹאשׁ־פְּתָנִ֥ים יִינָ֑ק תַּ֝הַרְגֵ֗הוּ לְשׁ֣וֹן אֶפְעֶֽה׃
θυμὸν δὲ δρακόντων θηλάσειεν ἀνέλοι δὲ αὐτὸν γλῶσσα ὄφεως
Caput aspidum suget, et occidet eum lingua viperae.
ወጠወሥኦ፡ ኅምዘ፡ አርዌ፡ ምድር፡ ወይቀትሎ፡ ልሳነ፡ አፍዖት።
He will suck cobra venom. The viper’s tongue will kill him.
20:17
אַל־יֵ֥רֶא בִפְלַגּ֑וֹת נַהֲרֵ֥י נַ֝חֲלֵ֗י דְּבַ֣שׁ וְחֶמְאָֽה׃
μὴ ἴδοι ἄμελξιν νομάδων μηδὲ νομὰς μέλιτος καὶ βουτύρου
(Non videat rivulos fluminis, torrentes mellis et butyri.)
ወኢይሬኢ፡ እጕለ፡ መራዕይሁ፡ ወኢይውኅዝ፡ መዓር፡ ወቅብዕ፡ ወኢይፀምድ፡ ምዕረ፡ ወካዕበ።
He will not look at the rivers, the flowing streams of honey and butter.
20:18
מֵשִׁ֣יב יָ֭גָע וְלֹ֣א יִבְלָ֑ע כְּחֵ֥יל תְּ֝מוּרָת֗וֹ וְלֹ֣א יַעֲלֹֽס׃
εἰς κενὰ καὶ μάταια ἐκοπίασεν πλοῦτον ἐξ οὗ οὐ γεύσεται ὥσπερ στρίφνος ἀμάσητος ἀκατάποτος
Luet quae fecit omnia, nec tamen consumetur : juxta multitudinem adinventionum suarum, sic et sustinebit.
በከንቱ፡ ወበበክ፡ ሠርኀ፡ ብዕሎ፡ ዘኢይጥዕም፡ እምኔሁ፡ ከመ፡ ጽኑዕ፡ ዘኢይትሔየከ፡ ወኢይትወሐጥ።
He will restore that for which he labored, and will not swallow it down. He will not rejoice according to the substance that he has gotten.
20:19
כִּֽי־רִ֭צַּץ עָזַ֣ב דַּלִּ֑ים בַּ֥יִת גָּ֝זַ֗ל וְלֹ֣א יִבְנֵֽהוּ׃
πολλῶν γὰρ ἀδυνάτων οἴκους ἔθλασεν δίαιταν δὲ ἥρπασεν καὶ οὐκ ἔστησεν
Quoniam confringens nudavit pauperes : domum rapuit, et non aedificavit eam.
እስመ፡ አንሐለ፡ አብያተ፡ ድኩማን፡ ብዙኀ፡ ወበርበረ፡ ማኅፈደ፡ ወኢያግብኦ።
For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor. He has violently taken away a house, and he will not build it up.
20:20
כִּ֤י׀ לֹא־יָדַ֣ע שָׁלֵ֣ו בְּבִטְנ֑וֹ בַּ֝חֲמוּד֗וֹ לֹ֣א יְמַלֵּֽט׃
οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτοῦ σωτηρία τοῖς ὑπάρχουσιν ἐν ἐπιθυμίᾳ αὐτοῦ οὐ σωθήσεται
Nec est satiatus venter ejus : et cum habuerit quae concupierat, possidere non poterit.
ወአልቦ፡ ዘይሣሃሎ፡ እምንዋዩ፡ ወኢያደምዕ፡ ፍትወቶ።
“Because he knew no quietness within him, he will not save anything of that in which he delights.
20:21
אֵין־שָׂרִ֥יד לְאׇכְל֑וֹ עַל־כֵּ֝֗ן לֹא־יָחִ֥יל טוּבֽוֹ׃
οὐκ ἔστιν ὑπόλειμμα τοῖς βρώμασιν αὐτοῦ διὰ τοῦτο οὐκ ἀνθήσει αὐτοῦ τὰ ἀγαθά
Non remansit de cibo ejus, et propterea nihil permanebit de bonis ejus.
ወአልቦ፡ ተረፍ፡ ለብዕሉ፡ ወበእንተዝ፡ ኢትሠምር፡ ሠናይቱ።
There was nothing left that he didn’t devour, therefore his prosperity will not endure.
20:22
בִּמְלֹ֣אות שִׂ֭פְקוֹ יֵ֣צֶר ל֑וֹ כׇּל־יַ֖ד עָמֵ֣ל תְּבֹאֶֽנּוּ׃
ὅταν δὲ δοκῇ ἤδη πεπληρῶσθαι θλιβήσεται πᾶσα δὲ ἀνάγκη ἐπ’ αὐτὸν ἐπελεύσεται
Cum satiatus fuerit, arctabitur : aestuabit, et omnis dolor irruet super eum.
አመ፡ ይቤ፡ ሠለጥኩ፡ አሜሃ፡ ይትመነደብ፡ ወይመጽኦ፡ ኵሉ፡ ሕማም፡ ዘያጸግባ፡ ለከርሡ።
In the fullness of his sufficiency, distress will overtake him. The hand of everyone who is in misery will come on him.
20:23
יְהִ֤י׀ לְמַלֵּ֬א בִטְנ֗וֹ יְֽשַׁלַּח־בּ֭וֹ חֲר֣וֹן אַפּ֑וֹ וְיַמְטֵ֥ר עָ֝לֵ֗ימוֹ בִּלְחוּמֽוֹ׃
εἴ πως πληρώσαι γαστέρα αὐτοῦ ἐπαποστείλαι ἐπ’ αὐτὸν θυμὸν ὀργῆς νίψαι ἐπ’ αὐτὸν ὀδύνας
Utinam impleatur venter ejus, ut emittat in eum iram furoris sui, et pluat super illum bellum suum.
ወይትዌሰክ፡ መቅሠፍተ፡ መዓቱ፡ ወጥተግህ፡ ላዕሌሁ፡ ዘያሐምሞ።
When he is about to fill his belly, God will cast the fierceness of his wrath on him. It will rain on him while he is eating.
20:24
יִ֭בְרַח מִנֵּ֣שֶׁק בַּרְזֶ֑ל תַּ֝חְלְפֵ֗הוּ קֶ֣שֶׁת נְחוּשָֽׁה׃
καὶ οὐ μὴ σωθῇ ἐκ χειρὸς σιδήρου τρώσαι αὐτὸν τόξον χάλκειον
Fugiet arma ferrea, et irruet in arcum aereum.
ወኢያመስጥ፡ እምእደ፡ ኲናት፡ ወይበረብሮ፡ ቀስተ፡ ብርት።
He will flee from the iron weapon. The bronze arrow will strike him through.
20:25
שָׁלַף֮ וַיֵּצֵ֢א מִגֵּ֫וָ֥ה וּ֭בָרָק מִֽמְּרֹרָת֥וֹ יַהֲלֹ֗ךְ עָלָ֥יו אֵמִֽים׃
διεξέλθοι δὲ διὰ σώματος αὐτοῦ βέλος ἀστραπαὶ δὲ ἐν διαίταις αὐτοῦ περιπατήσαισαν ἐπ’ αὐτῷ φόβοι
Eductus, et egrediens de vagina sua, et fulgurans in amaritudine sua : vadent et venient super eum horribiles.
ወየኃልፍ፡ ሐፅ፡ ውስተ፡ ሥጋሁ፡ ወያንሶሱ፡ እኩይ፡ ውስተ፡ ነፍስቱ፡ ወላዕሌሁ፡ ዘያደነግዖ።
He draws it out, and it comes out of his body. Yes, the glittering point comes out of his liver. Terrors are on him.
20:26
כׇּל־חֹשֶׁךְ֮ טָמ֢וּן לִצְפּ֫וּנָ֥יו תְּ֭אׇכְלֵהוּ אֵ֣שׁ לֹא־נֻפָּ֑ח יֵ֖רַע שָׂרִ֣יד בְּאׇהֳלֽוֹ׃
πᾶν δὲ σκότος αὐτῷ ὑπομείναι κατέδεται αὐτὸν πῦρ ἄκαυστον κακώσαι δὲ αὐτοῦ ἐπήλυτος τὸν οἶκον
Omnes tenebrae absconditae sunt in occultis ejus ; devorabit eum ignis qui non succenditur : affligetur relictus in tabernaculo suo.
ወይጸንሖ፡ ኵሉ፡ ጽልመት፡ ወይበልዖ፡ እሳት፡ ዘእንደደ፡ ወይትጋየዖ፡ ጎረ፡ ቤቱ።
All darkness is laid up for his treasures. An unfanned fire will devour him. It will consume that which is left in his tent.
20:27
יְגַלּ֣וּ שָׁמַ֣יִם עֲוֺנ֑וֹ וְ֝אֶ֗רֶץ מִתְקוֹמָ֘מָ֥ה לֽוֹ׃
ἀνακαλύψαι δὲ αὐτοῦ ὁ οὐρανὸς τὰς ἀνομίας γῆ δὲ ἐπανασταίη αὐτῷ
Revelabunt caeli iniquitatem ejus, et terra consurget adversus eum.
ወከሠተ፡ ሰማይ፡ ጌጋዮ፡ ወምድርኒ፡ ኢትነሥኦ።
The heavens will reveal his iniquity. The earth will rise up against him.
20:28
יִ֭גֶל יְב֣וּל בֵּית֑וֹ נִ֝גָּר֗וֹת בְּי֣וֹם אַפּֽוֹ׃
ἑλκύσαι τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ ἀπώλεια εἰς τέλος ἡμέρα ὀργῆς ἐπέλθοι αὐτῷ
Apertum erit germen domus illius : detrahetur in die furoris Dei.
ወሞት፡ ይስሕባ፡ ለቤቱ፡ ለዝሉፉ፡ ወትመጽኦ፡ ዕለተ፡ መንሱት።
The increase of his house will depart. They will rush away in the day of his wrath.
20:29
זֶ֤ה׀ חֵלֶק־אָדָ֣ם רָ֭שָׁע מֵאֱלֹהִ֑ים וְנַחֲלַ֖ת אִמְר֣וֹ מֵאֵֽל׃ {פ}
αὕτη ἡ μερὶς ἀνθρώπου ἀσεβοῦς παρὰ κυρίου καὶ κτῆμα ὑπαρχόντων αὐτῷ παρὰ τοῦ ἐπισκόπου
Haec est pars hominis impii a Deo, et haereditas verborum ejus a Domino.
ዝውእቱ፡ መክፈልቱ፡ ለብእሲ፡ ኃጥእ፡ እምኀበ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወንዋዩሂ፡ ዘአጥረየ፡ እምኀበ፡ ፈጣሪሁ።
This is the portion of a wicked man from God, the heritage appointed to him by God.”
