7:1
הֲלֹֽא־צָבָ֣א לֶֽאֱנ֣וֹשׁ (על) [עֲלֵי־]אָ֑רֶץ וְכִימֵ֖י שָׂכִ֣יר יָמָֽיו׃
πότερον οὐχὶ πειρατήριόν ἐστιν ὁ βίος ἀνθρώπου ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς καὶ ὥσπερ μισθίου αὐθημερινοῦ ἡ ζωὴ αὐτοῦ
Militia est vita hominis super terram, et sicut dies mercenarii dies ejus.
ቀዳሚሁ፡ አኮኑ፡ ጽላሎት፡ ውእቱ፡ ሕይወት፡ ለእጓለ፡ እመ፡ ሕያው፡ በዲበ፡ ምድር፡ ወንብረቱ፡ ከመ፡ ሀሳብ፡ ዘለለዕለቱ።
“Isn’t a man forced to labor on earth? Aren’t his days like the days of a hired hand?
7:2
כְּעֶ֥בֶד יִשְׁאַף־צֵ֑ל וּ֝כְשָׂכִ֗יר יְקַוֶּ֥ה פׇעֳלֽוֹ׃
ἢ ὥσπερ θεράπων δεδοικὼς τὸν κύριον αὐτοῦ καὶ τετευχὼς σκιᾶς ἢ ὥσπερ μισθωτὸς ἀναμένων τὸν μισθὸν αὐτοῦ
Sicut servus desiderat umbram, et sicut mercenarius praestolatur finem operis sui,
ወእመ፡ አኮ፡ ከመ፡ ገብር፡ ዘያደሉ፡ ለእግዚኡ፡ ወያጸምእ፡ ጸሎቶ፡ አው፡ ከመ፡ ገባኢ፡ ዘይሴፎ፡ ዓስቦ።
As a servant who earnestly desires the shadow, as a hireling who looks for his wages,
7:3
כֵּ֤ן הׇנְחַ֣לְתִּי לִ֭י יַרְחֵי־שָׁ֑וְא וְלֵיל֥וֹת עָ֝מָ֗ל מִנּוּ־לִֽי׃
οὕτως κἀγὼ ὑπέμεινα μῆνας κενούς νύκτες δὲ ὀδυνῶν δεδομέναι μοί εἰσιν
sic et ego habui menses vacuos, et noctes laboriosas enumeravi mihi.
ከማሁ፡ አነሂ፡ ተዓገሥኩ፡ አውራኀ፡ ከንቱ፡ ወሌሊተኒ፡ ተውህበኒ፡ ሊተ፡ ፃዕር።
so I am made to possess months of misery, wearisome nights are appointed to me.
7:4
אִם־שָׁכַ֗בְתִּי וְאָמַ֗רְתִּי מָתַ֣י אָ֭קוּם וּמִדַּד־עָ֑רֶב וְשָׂבַ֖עְתִּי נְדֻדִ֣ים עֲדֵי־נָֽשֶׁף׃
ἐὰν κοιμηθῶ λέγω πότε ἡμέρα ὡς δ’ ἂν ἀναστῶ πάλιν πότε ἑσπέρα πλήρης δὲ γίνομαι ὀδυνῶν ἀπὸ ἑσπέρας ἕως πρωί
Si dormiero, dicam : Quando consurgam ? et rursum expectabo vesperam, et replebor doloribus usque ad tenebras.
እመ፡ ኖምኩ፡ እብል፡ ማእዜ፡ ይጸብሕ፡ ሊተ፡ እንጋ፡ ወእመ፡ ነቃሕኩ፡ ካዕበ፡ እብል፡ ማእዜ፡ ይመሲ።
When I lie down, I say, ‘When will I arise, and the night be gone?’ I toss and turn until the dawning of the day.
7:5
לָ֘בַ֤שׁ בְּשָׂרִ֣י רִ֭מָּה (וגיש) [וְג֣וּשׁ] עָפָ֑ר עוֹרִ֥י רָ֝גַ֗ע וַיִּמָּאֵֽס׃
φύρεται δέ μου τὸ σῶμα ἐν σαπρίᾳ σκωλήκων τήκω δὲ βώλακας γῆς ἀπὸ ἰχῶρος ξύων
Induta est caro mea putredine, et sordibus pulveris cutis mea aruit et contracta est.
ጸገብኩ፡ ሕማመ፡ እምነግህ፡ እስከ፡ ሠርክ፡ ወባኍበኈ፡ ሥጋየ፡ በፅሄያት፡ ወመግል፡ ወኃለቁ፡ እንዘ፡ አሐክክ፡ ጸውበ፡ ወእንጳንጴ፡ ወሐመደ፡ ኮንኩ።
My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust. My skin closes up, and breaks out afresh.
7:6
יָמַ֣י קַ֭לּוּ מִנִּי־אָ֑רֶג וַ֝יִּכְל֗וּ בְּאֶ֣פֶס תִּקְוָֽה׃
ὁ δὲ βίος μού ἐστιν ἐλαφρότερος λαλιᾶς ἀπόλωλεν δὲ ἐν κενῇ ἐλπίδι
Dies mei velocius transierunt quam a texente tela succiditur, et consumpti sunt absque ulla spe.
ወቀላለ፡ ኮነት፡ ሕይወትየ፡ ከመ፡ ነገረ፡ ዘየአንም፡ ወተኃጐልኩ፡ በተሰፍዎ፡ ከንቱ።
My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without hope.
7:7
זְ֭כֹר כִּי־ר֣וּחַ חַיָּ֑י לֹא־תָשׁ֥וּב עֵ֝ינִ֗י לִרְא֥וֹת טֽוֹב׃
μνήσθητι οὖν ὅτι πνεῦμά μου ἡ ζωὴ καὶ οὐκέτι ἐπανελεύσεται ὁ ὀφθαλμός μου ἰδεῖν ἀγαθόν
Memento quia ventus est vita mea, et non revertetur oculus meus ut videat bona.
ተዘከር፡ ከመ፡ ነፍስ፡ ውእቱ፡ ሕይትየ፡ ወኢትገብእ፡ እንከ፡ ትርአይ፡ ዓይንየ፡ ሠናይተ፡፡ 8፡ ወኢይሬኢ፡ ዓይነ፡ ዘይሬአየኒ፡ ወእመኒ፡ ነጸረኒ፡ ኢይሄሎ፡ እንከ።
Oh remember that my life is a breath. My eye will no more see good.
7:8
לֹא־תְ֭שׁוּרֵנִי עֵ֣ין רֹ֑אִי עֵינֶ֖יךָ בִּ֣י וְאֵינֶֽנִּי׃
οὐ περιβλέψεταί με ὀφθαλμὸς ὁρῶντός με οἱ ὀφθαλμοί σου ἐν ἐμοί καὶ οὐκέτι εἰμὶ
Nec aspiciet me visus hominis ; oculi tui in me, et non subsistam.
—
The eye of him who sees me will see me no more. Your eyes will be on me, but I will not be.
7:9
כָּלָ֣ה עָ֭נָן וַיֵּלַ֑ךְ כֵּ֥ן יוֹרֵ֥ד שְׁ֝א֗וֹל לֹ֣א יַעֲלֶֽה׃
ὥσπερ νέφος ἀποκαθαρθὲν ἀπ’ οὐρανοῦ ἐὰν γὰρ ἄνθρωπος καταβῇ εἰς ᾅδην οὐκέτι μὴ ἀναβῇ
Sicut consumitur nubes, et pertransit, sic qui descenderit ad inferos, non ascendet.
ከመ፡ ደመና፡ ዘተነጽሐ፡ እምሰማይ፡ እስመ፡ እምከመ፡ ወረደ፡ ሰብአ፡ ውስተ፡ መቃብር፡ ኢየዓርግ፡ እንከ።
As the cloud is consumed and vanishes away, so he who goes down to Sheol will come up no more.
7:10
לֹא־יָשׁ֣וּב ע֣וֹד לְבֵית֑וֹ וְלֹא־יַכִּירֶ֖נּוּ ע֣וֹד מְקֹמֽוֹ׃
οὐδ’ οὐ μὴ ἐπιστρέψῃ ἔτι εἰς τὸν ἴδιον οἶκον οὐδὲ μὴ ἐπιγνῷ αὐτὸν ἔτι ὁ τόπος αὐτοῦ
Nec revertetur ultra in domum suam, neque cognoscet eum amplius locus ejus.
ወኢይገብእ፡ ውስተ፡ ቤት፡ ወኢየአምር፡ እንከ፡ ብሔሮ።
He will return no more to his house, neither will his place know him any more.
7:11
גַּם־אֲנִי֮ לֹ֤א אֶחֱשׇׂ֫ךְ־פִּ֥י אֲֽ֭דַבְּרָה בְּצַ֣ר רוּחִ֑י אָ֝שִׂ֗יחָה בְּמַ֣ר נַפְשִֽׁי׃
ἀτὰρ οὖν οὐδὲ ἐγὼ φείσομαι τῷ στόματί μου λαλήσω ἐν ἀνάγκῃ ὤν ἀνοίξω πικρίαν ψυχῆς μου συνεχόμενος
Quapropter et ego non parcam ori meo : loquar in tribulatione spiritus mei ; confabulabor cum amaritudine animae meae.
ወበእንተ፡ ዝንቱ፡ አነሂ፡ ኢይምህከ፡ አፉየ፡ ወእነብብ፡ ፃዕረ፡ መንፈስየ፡ ወአከሥት፡ ምረረ፡ ነፍስየ፡ ዘላዕሌየ፡ ከመ፡ ወባሕር፡ ኮነ፡ አንብዕየ።
“Therefore I will not keep silent. I will speak in the anguish of my spirit. I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.
7:12
הֲֽיָם־אָ֭נִי אִם־תַּנִּ֑ין כִּֽי־תָשִׂ֖ים עָלַ֣י מִשְׁמָֽר׃
πότερον θάλασσά εἰμι ἢ δράκων ὅτι κατέταξας ἐπ’ ἐμὲ φυλακήν
Numquid mare ego sum, aut cetus, quia circumdedisti me carcere ?
ባሕርኑ፡ አው፡ ቀላይ፡ እስመ፡ አዘዝከ፡ ዓቃቤ፡ ላዕሌየ።
Am I a sea, or a sea monster, that you put a guard over me?
7:13
כִּֽי־אָ֭מַרְתִּי תְּנַחֲמֵ֣נִי עַרְשִׂ֑י יִשָּׂ֥א בְ֝שִׂיחִ֗י מִשְׁכָּבִֽי׃
εἶπα ὅτι παρακαλέσει με ἡ κλίνη μου ἀνοίσω δὲ πρὸς ἐμαυτὸν ἰδίᾳ λόγον τῇ κοίτῃ μου
Si dixero : Consolabitur me lectulus meus, et relevabor loquens mecum in strato meo :
ወእቤ፡ ዓራትየኑ፡ እንጋ፡ ይናዝዘኒ፡ ወያልህየኒሁ፡ እንጋ፡ ምስካብየ።
When I say, ‘My bed will comfort me. My couch will ease my complaint,’
7:14
וְחִתַּתַּ֥נִי בַחֲלֹמ֑וֹת וּֽמֵחֶזְיֹנ֥וֹת תְּבַעֲתַֽנִּי׃
ἐκφοβεῖς με ἐνυπνίοις καὶ ἐν ὁράμασίν με καταπλήσσεις
terrebis me per somnia, et per visiones horrore concuties.
ወትጌርመኒ፡ በሕልም፡ ወታደነግዐኒ፡ በራእይ።
then you scare me with dreams and terrify me through visions,
7:15
וַתִּבְחַ֣ר מַחֲנָ֣ק נַפְשִׁ֑י מָ֝֗וֶת מֵעַצְמוֹתָֽי׃
ἀπαλλάξεις ἀπὸ πνεύματός μου τὴν ψυχήν μου ἀπὸ δὲ θανάτου τὰ ὀστᾶ μου
Quam ob rem elegit suspendium anima mea, et mortem ossa mea.
ወኮነ፡ ሥሉጠ፡ በነፍስየ፡ ወበመንፈስየ፡ ወአሞቶን፡ ለአዕይንትየ፡ ቦኑ፡ ለዓለም፡ አሐዩ፡ ከመ፡ እትዓገሥ፡ ርኅቀ፡ እምኔየ፡ ወከንቱ፡ ውእቱ፡ ሕይወትየ።
so that my soul chooses strangling, death rather than my bones.
7:16
מָ֭אַסְתִּי לֹא־לְעֹלָ֣ם אֶחְיֶ֑ה חֲדַ֥ל מִ֝מֶּ֗נִּי כִּי־הֶ֥בֶל יָמָֽי׃
οὐ γὰρ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα ζήσομαι ἵνα μακροθυμήσω ἀπόστα ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ κενὸς γάρ μου ὁ βίος
Desperavi : nequaquam ultra jam vivam : parce mihi, nihil enim sunt dies mei.
ምንት፡ ውእቱ፡ ሰብአ፡ ከመ፡ ታዕብዮ፡ ወከመ፡ ተሐውጽ፡ ልቦ።
I loathe my life. I don’t want to live forever. Leave me alone, for my days are but a breath.
7:17
מָֽה־אֱ֭נוֹשׁ כִּ֣י תְגַדְּלֶ֑נּוּ וְכִֽי־תָשִׁ֖ית אֵלָ֣יו לִבֶּֽךָ׃
τί γάρ ἐστιν ἄνθρωπος ὅτι ἐμεγάλυνας αὐτὸν ἢ ὅτι προσέχεις τὸν νοῦν εἰς αὐτὸν
Quid est homo, quia magnificas eum ? aut quid apponis erga eum cor tuum ?
አው፡ ከመ፡ ትፍትኖ፡ እስከ፡ ይበጽሕ፡ ኀቤከ፡ አው፡ ከመ፡ ትኰንኖ፡ በውስተ፡ ዓራቱ።
What is man, that you should magnify him, that you should set your mind on him,
7:18
וַתִּפְקְדֶ֥נּוּ לִבְקָרִ֑ים לִ֝רְגָעִ֗ים תִּבְחָנֶֽנּוּ׃
ἢ ἐπισκοπὴν αὐτοῦ ποιήσῃ ἕως τὸ πρωὶ καὶ εἰς ἀνάπαυσιν αὐτὸν κρινεῖς
Visitas eum diluculo, et subito probas illum.
እስከ፡ ማእዜኑ፡ ኢታስሕተኒ፡ እስከ፡ እውኅጥ፡ ምራቅየ፡ እንዘ፡ የሐንቀኒ።
that you should visit him every morning, and test him every moment?
7:19
כַּ֭מָּה לֹא־תִשְׁעֶ֣ה מִמֶּ֑נִּי לֹֽא־תַ֝רְפֵּ֗נִי עַד־בִּלְעִ֥י רֻקִּֽי׃
ἕως τίνος οὐκ ἐᾷς με οὐδὲ προΐῃ με ἕως ἂν καταπίω τὸν πτύελόν μου ἐν ὀδύνῃ
Usquequo non parcis mihi, nec dimittis me ut glutiam salivam meam ?
ወእነሂ፡ አበስኩ፡ አነ፡ ምንተ፡ እንከ፡ እክል፡ ገቢረ፡ ለከ፡ ኦ፡ ዘተአምር፡ ልበ፡ እጓለ፡ እመሕያው፡ ለምንት፡ ረፅይከኒ፡ ለመቅሠፍት፡ ለከ፡ ወለምንት፡ ፈጠርከኒ፡ በአምሳሊከ፡ አነሁ፡ ዳአሙ፡ ከበድኩከ።
How long will you not look away from me, nor leave me alone until I swallow down my spittle?
7:20
חָטָ֡אתִי מָ֤ה אֶפְעַ֨ל׀ לָךְ֮ נֹצֵ֢ר הָ֫אָדָ֥ם לָ֤מָה שַׂמְתַּ֣נִי לְמִפְגָּ֣ע לָ֑ךְ וָאֶהְיֶ֖ה עָלַ֣י לְמַשָּֽׂא׃
εἰ ἐγὼ ἥμαρτον τί δύναμαί σοι πρᾶξαι ὁ ἐπιστάμενος τὸν νοῦν τῶν ἀνθρώπων διὰ τί ἔθου με κατεντευκτήν σου εἰμὶ δὲ ἐπὶ σοὶ φορτίον
Peccavi ; quid faciam tibi, o custos hominum ? quare posuisti me contrarium tibi, et factus sum mihimetipsi gravis ?
ወለምንት፡ ኢገበርከ፡ በዘይትረሳዕ፡ ኃጢአትየ፡ ወበዘይነጽሕ፡ ጌጋይየ፡ ወይአዜሰ፡ እወርድ፡ ውስተ፡ ምድር፡ ኀበ፡ ኢይነቅሕ፡ እንከ።
If I have sinned, what do I do to you, you watcher of men? Why have you set me as a mark for you, so that I am a burden to myself?
7:21
וּמֶ֤ה׀ לֹא־תִשָּׂ֣א פִשְׁעִי֮ וְתַעֲבִ֢יר אֶת־עֲוֺ֫נִ֥י כִּֽי־עַ֭תָּה לֶעָפָ֣ר אֶשְׁכָּ֑ב וְשִׁ֖חַרְתַּ֣נִי וְאֵינֶֽנִּי׃ {פ}
καὶ διὰ τί οὐκ ἐποιήσω τῆς ἀνομίας μου λήθην καὶ καθαρισμὸν τῆς ἁμαρτίας μου νυνὶ δὲ εἰς γῆν ἀπελεύσομαι ὀρθρίζων δὲ οὐκέτι εἰμί
Cur non tollis peccatum meum, et quare non aufers iniquitatem meam ? ecce nunc in pulvere dormiam, et si mane me quaesieris, non subsistam.
—
Why do you not pardon my disobedience, and take away my iniquity? For now will I lie down in the dust. You will seek me diligently, but I will not be.”
