ℹ️ This corpus has no verse-level morphological tagging . Lemmas come mainly from word-level tagging of other books in the same language (not from this verse), falling back to dictionary form-matching for the rest. Rare homographs can still be misread; verify against the original and a specialist lexicon where precision matters.
ℹ️ The Chinese and English alongside are this site's own translation , made directly from the original text on this page (not the CUV or the WEB, which follow the Masoretic Text and a different textual tradition).

Is not the life of man on the earth a trial, and his days like those of a hired laborer paid by the day?
Or like a servant who fears his master and has obtained a bit of shade, or like a hireling waiting for his wages.
So I too have endured empty months, and nights of pains have been assigned to me.
When I lie down I say, 'When will it be day?' and when I rise, again, 'When will it be evening?' And I become full of pains from evening until morning.

My body is fouled in the rottenness of worms, and I soften clods of earth as I scrape off the discharge.

My life is lighter than speech, and it has perished in empty hope.

Remember, then, that my life is a breath, and my eye will not return again to see good.
The eye of him who sees me will not look around at me; your eyes are upon me, and I am no more.
Like a cloud cleared away from the sky; for if a man goes down to Hades, he shall not come up again,
nor will he return again to his own house, nor will his place recognize him any more.
Therefore neither will I spare my mouth; being in distress I will speak; gripped as I am, I will open the bitterness of my soul.
Am I the sea, or a sea-serpent, that you have set a watch over me?
I said, 'My bed will comfort me; I will utter to myself in private a word upon my couch.'
You terrify me with dreams and astound me with visions.
You will separate my soul from my breath, and my bones from death.
For I shall not live forever, that I should be long-suffering. Depart from me, for my life is empty.

How long will you not let me be, nor release me, even long enough to swallow my spittle in pain?
If I have sinned, what can I do to you, you who know the mind of men? Why have you made me your accuser, so that I am a burden to you?
And why have you not made forgetfulness of my lawlessness and a cleansing of my sin? But now I shall depart into the earth, and though you rise early to seek me, I shall be no more."
