11:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ Λέγω οὖν , μὴ ἀπώσατο ὁ θεὸς τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ ; μὴ γένοιτο · καὶ γὰρ ἐγὼ Ἰσραηλείτης εἰμί , ἐκ σπέρματος Ἀβραάμ , φυλῆς Βενιαμείν .
Dico ergo : Numquid Deus repulit populum suum ? Absit . Nam et ego Israëlita sum ex semine Abraham , de tribu Benjamin :
እብል እንከ ገደፎሙኑ እግዚአብሔር ለሕዝቡ ሐሰ አኮኑ አነ እስራኤላዊ አነ ዘርዐ አርብሃም እምሕዝበ ብንያም ።
I ask then, did God reject his people? May it never be! For I also am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
11:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ οὐκ ἀπώσατο ὁ θεὸς τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ ὃν προέγνω . ἢ οὐκ οἴδατε ἐν Ἠλείᾳ τί λέγει ἡ γραφή ; ὡς ἐντυγχάνει τῷ θεῷ κατὰ τοῦ Ἰσραήλ ,
non repulit Deus plebem suam , quam praescivit . An nescitis in Elia quid dicit Scriptura ? quemadmodum interpellat Deum adversum Israël :
ኢገደፈ እግዚአብሔር ሕዝቦ ዘአቅደመ አእምሮ ኢተአምሩኑ ዘይቤ ኤልያስ አመ ሰከዮሙ ለእስራኤል ኀበ እግዚአብሔር እንዘ ይብል ።
God didn’t reject his people, whom he foreknew. Or don’t you know what the Scripture says about Elijah? How he pleads with God against Israel:
11:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ κύριε , τοὺς προφήτας σου ἀπέκτειναν , τὰ θυσιαστήριά σου κατέσκαψαν , κἀγὼ ὑπελείφθην μόνος , καὶ ζητοῦσιν τὴν ψυχήν μου .
Domine , prophetas tuos occiderunt , altaria tua suffoderunt : et ego relictus sum solus , et quaerunt animam meam .
«እግዚኦ ነቢያቲከኒ ቀተሉ ወምሥዋዒከኒ ነሠቱ ወአነ ባሕቲትየ ተረፍኩ ወየኀሥሥዋ ለነፍስየ ።»
“Lord, they have killed your prophets. They have broken down your altars. I am left alone, and they seek my life.”
11:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀλλὰ τί λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ χρηματισμός ; κατέλιπον ἐμαυτῷ ἑπτακισχιλίους ἄνδρας , οἵτινες οὐκ ἔκαμψαν γόνυ τῇ Βάαλ .
Sed quid dicit illi divinum responsum ? Reliqui mihi septem millia virorum , qui non curvaverunt genua ante Baal .
ወምንተ ይቤሎ ዘአስተርአዮ «አትረፍኩ ሊተ ሰብዓ ምእተ ብእሴ እለ ኢያምለክዎ ለበዓል ።»
But how does God answer him? “I have reserved for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”
11:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ οὕτως οὖν καὶ ἐν τῷ νῦν καιρῷ λεῖμμα κατ’ ἐκλογὴν χάριτος γέγονεν ·
Sic ergo et in hoc tempore reliquiae secundum electionem gratiae salvae factae sunt .
ከማሁኬ ዮምኒ በዝ መዋዕል እምእለ ኮኑ ኅሬ በጸጋ እለ ተርፉ አምኑ በእግዚአብሔር ።
Even so too at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.
11:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἰ δὲ χάριτι , οὐκέτι ἐξ ἔργων , ἐπεὶ ἡ χάρις οὐκέτι γίνεται χάρις .
Si autem gratia , jam non ex operibus : alioquin gratia jam non est gratia .
ወእመሰኬ በጸጋ ጸድቁ ኢኮነኬ በጽድቀ ምግባሮሙ ወእመ አኮሰ ጸጋ ኢይከውን ጸጋ ለእመ በምግባር ይጸድቁ ።
And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.
11:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ Τί οὖν ; ὃ ἐπιζητεῖ Ἰσραήλ , τοῦτο οὐκ ἐπέτυχεν , ἡ δὲ ἐκλογὴ ἐπέτυχεν · οἱ δὲ λοιποὶ ἐπωρώθησαν ,
Quid ergo ? Quod quaerebat Israël , hoc non est consecutus : electio autem consecuta est : ceteri vero excaecati sunt :
ምንተ እንከ የኀሥሥ እስራኤል ዘዘንተ ኢያድምዐ ወኅሬሰ አድምዐ ወእለሰ ተርፉ ዖሩ ።
What then? That which Israel seeks for, that he didn’t obtain, but the chosen ones obtained it, and the rest were hardened.
11:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ καθάπερ γέγραπται , ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς ὁ θεὸς πνεῦμα κατανύξεως , ὀφθαλμοὺς τοῦ μὴ βλέπειν καὶ ὦτα τοῦ μὴ ἀκούειν , ἕως τῆς σήμερον ἡμέρας .
sicut scriptum est : Dedit illis Deus spiritum compunctionis : oculos ut non videant , et aures ut non audiant , usque in hodiernum diem .
በከመ ይቤ መጽሐፍ «ወሀቦሙ እግዚአብሔር መንፈሰ ድንዙዘ ከመ ኢይነጽሩ በአዕይንቲሆሙ ወኢይርአዩ ወኢይስምዑ በእዘኒሆሙ እስከ ዮም ።»
According as it is written, “God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, to this very day.”
11:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ Δαυεὶδ λέγει · γενηθήτω ἡ τράπεζα αὐτῶν εἰς παγίδα καὶ εἰς θήραν καὶ εἰς σκάνδαλον καὶ εἰς ἀνταπόδομα αὐτοῖς ,
Et David dicit : Fiat mensa eorum in laqueum , et in captionem , et in scandalum , et in retributionem illis .
ዳዊትኒ ይቤ «ለትኩኖሙ ማእዶሙ መሥገርተ በቅድሜሆሙ ለፍዳሆሙ ወለዕቅፍቶሙ ።
David says, “Let their table be made a snare, a trap, a stumbling block, and a retribution to them.
11:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ σκοτισθήτωσαν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτῶν τοῦ μὴ βλέπειν , καὶ τὸν νῶτον αὐτῶν διαπαντὸς σύνκαμψον .
Obscurentur oculi eorum ne videant : et dorsum eorum semper incurva .
ይጽለማ አዕይንቲሆሙ ወኢይርአያ ወይትቀጻዕ ዘባናቲሆሙ በኵሉ ጊዜ ።»
Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see. Always keep their backs bent.”
11:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ Λέγω οὖν , μὴ ἔπταισαν ἵνα πέσωσιν ; μὴ γένοιτο · ἀλλὰ τῷ αὐτῶν παραπτώματι ἡ σωτηρία τοῖς ἔθνεσιν , εἰς τὸ παραζηλῶσαι αὐτούς .
Dico ergo : Numquid sic offenderunt ut caderent ? Absit . Sed illorum delicto , salus est gentibus ut illos aemulentur .
እብል እንከ ተዐቅፉኑ ከመ ይደቁ ሐሰ አኮኑ በእንተ ተዐቅፎቶሙ ኮነ ሕይወት ላዕለ አሕዛብ ከመ ይቅንኡ ።
I ask then, did they stumble that they might fall? May it never be! But by their fall salvation has come to the Gentiles, to provoke them to jealousy.
11:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἰ δὲ τὸ παράπτωμα αὐτῶν πλοῦτος κόσμου καὶ τὸ ἥττημα αὐτῶν πλοῦτος ἐθνῶν , πόσῳ μᾶλλον τὸ πλήρωμα αὐτῶν .
Quod si delictum illorum divitiae sunt mundi , et diminutio eorum divitiae gentium : quanto magis plenitudo eorum ?
ሶበ ስሒተ ዚኣሆሙ ሣህለ ኮነ ለአሕዛብ ወጌጋየ ዚኣሆሙ ብዕለ ኮነ ለዓለም እፎ እንጋ እምኮነ ፍጻሜሆሙ ።
Now if their fall is the riches of the world, and their loss the riches of the Gentiles, how much more their fullness!
11:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὑμῖν δὲ λέγω τοῖς ἔθνεσιν . ἐφ’ ὅσον μὲν οὖν εἰμι ἐγὼ ἐθνῶν ἀπόστολος , τὴν διακονίαν μου δοξάζω ,
Vobis enim dico gentibus : Quamdiu quidem ego sum gentium Apostolus , ministerium meum honorificabo ,
ለክሙ እብል ለአሕዛብ አምጣነሰ ሐዋርያሆሙ አነ ለአሕዛብ እሴብሓ ለመልእክትየ ።
For I speak to you who are Gentiles. Since then as I am an apostle to Gentiles, I glorify my ministry,
11:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἴπως παραζηλώσω μου τὴν σάρκα καὶ σώσω τινὰς ἐξ αὐτῶν .
si quomodo ad aemulandum provocem carnem meam , et salvos faciam aliquos ex illis .
እመቦ ከመ አቅንኦሙ በዝንቱ ለአዝማድየ ወለሕዝብየ ወአድኅን እለ ኮኑ እምኔሆሙ ።
if by any means I may provoke to jealousy those who are my flesh, and may save some of them.
11:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἰ γὰρ ἡ ἀποβολὴ αὐτῶν καταλλαγὴ κόσμου , τίς ἡ πρόσλημψις εἰ μὴ ζωὴ ἐκ νεκρῶν ;
Si enim amissio eorum , reconciliatio est mundi : quae assumptio , nisi vita ex mortuis ?
እስመ ፀአተ ዚኣሆሙ ሣህለ ኮነ ለዓለም እፎ ፈድፋደ እምኮነ ተመይጦቶሙ ሕይወት እሙታን ።
For if the rejection of them is the reconciling of the world, what would their acceptance be, but life from the dead?
11:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἰ δὲ ἡ ἀπαρχὴ ἁγία , καὶ τὸ φύραμα · καὶ εἰ ἡ ῥίζα ἁγία , καὶ οἱ κλάδοι .
Quod si delibatio sancta est , et massa : et si radix sancta , et rami .
ወለእመ ኮነት ቀዳሚሃ ቅድስተ ወብሑእኒ ቅዱስ ከማሁ ወለእመ ኮነ ሥርዋ ቅዱሰ ከማሁ አዕጹቂሃኒ ቅዱስ ።
If the first fruit is holy, so is the lump. If the root is holy, so are the branches.
11:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ Εἰ δέ τινες τῶν κλάδων ἐξεκλάσθησαν , σὺ δὲ ἀγριέλαιος ὢν ἐνεκεντρίσθης ἐν αὐτοῖς καὶ συνκοινωνὸς τῆς ῥίζης τῆς πιότητος τῆς ἐλαίας ἐγένου ,
Quod si aliqui ex ramis fracti sunt , tu autem cum oleaster esses , insertus es in illis , et socius radicis , et pinguedinis olivae factus es ,
ወለእመ ተሰብሩ እምአዕጹቂሃ ኪያከ አውልዐ ገዳም ተከሉ በመካኖሙ ወኀበርከ ሥርወ ምስሌሆሙ ወኮንከ ዘይተ ከማሆሙ ።
But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the root and of the richness of the olive tree,
11:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ μὴ κατακαυχῶ τῶν κλάδων · εἰ δὲ κατακαυχᾶσαι , οὐ σὺ τὴν ῥίζαν βαστάζεις ἀλλὰ ἡ ῥίζα σέ .
noli gloriari adversus ramos . Quod si gloriaris : non tu radicem portas , sed radix te .
ወኢትዘኀር ላዕለ አዕጹቅ ወእመሰ ተዝኅርከ አኮ አንተ ዘትጸውሮ ለሥርው አላ ሥርው ይጸውረከ ለከ ።
don’t boast over the branches. But if you boast, remember that it is not you who support the root, but the root supports you.
11:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐρεῖς οὖν , ἐξεκλάσθησαν κλάδοι ἵνα ἐγὼ ἐγκεντρισθῶ .
Dices ergo : Fracti sunt rami ut ego inserar .
ትብልኑ ተሰብሩ እምአጹፁቂሃ ወአነ ኮንኩ ዐጽቀ ዘይት ህየንቴሆሙ ።
You will say then, “Branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in.”
11:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ καλῶς · τῇ ἀπιστίᾳ ἐξεκλάσθησαν , σὺ δὲ τῇ πίστει ἕστηκας . μὴ ὑψηλὰ φρόνει , ἀλλὰ φοβοῦ ·
Bene : propter incredulitatem fracti sunt . Tu autem fide stas : noli altum sapere , sed time .
ርቱዕ ይሰበሩ እስመ ኢአምኑ ወአንተሰ ቆምከ እስመ አመንከ ፍሩሀከ ንበር እንከ ወኢታዕቢ ርእሰከ ።
True; by their unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by your faith. Don’t be conceited, but fear;
11:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἰ γὰρ ὁ θεὸς τῶν κατὰ φύσιν κλάδων οὐκ ἐφείσατο , οὐδὲ σοῦ φείσεται .
Si enim Deus naturalibus ramis non pepercit : ne forte nec tibi parcat .
ሶበ ለእልክቱ እለ ፍጥረቶሙ ዘይት እሙንቱ ኢመሐኮሙ እግዚአብሔር ኪያከኑ ይምሕከከ ።
for if God didn’t spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you.
11:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἴδε οὖν χρηστότητα καὶ ἀποτομίαν θεοῦ · ἐπὶ μὲν τοὺς πεσόντας ἀποτομία , ἐπὶ δὲ σὲ χρηστότης θεοῦ , ἐὰν ἐπιμένῃς τῇ χρηστότητι , ἐπεὶ καὶ σὺ ἐκκοπήσῃ .
Vide ergo bonitatem , et severitatem Dei : in eos quidem qui ceciderunt , severitatem : in te autem bonitatem Dei , si permanseris in bonitate , alioquin et tu excideris .
ርኢ እንከ ምሕረቶሂ ወአጥብዖቶሂ ለእግዚአብሔር ለእለሰ ወድቁ አውቀዮሙ ወለከሰ ምሕረከ ለእመ ነበርከ በዘምሕረከ ወእመ አኮሰ ኪያከኒ ያወቅየከ ።
See then the goodness and severity of God. Toward those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in his goodness; otherwise you also will be cut off.
11:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ κἀκεῖνοι δέ , ἐὰν μὴ ἐπιμένωσιν τῇ ἀπιστίᾳ , ἐνκεντρισθήσονται · δυνατὸς γάρ ἐστιν ὁ θεὸς πάλιν ἐνκεντρίσαι αὐτούς .
Sed et illi , si non permanserint in incredulitate , inserentur : potens est enim Deus iterum inserere illos .
ወሎሙኒ ይተክሎሙ ለእመ አምኑ ይክል እግዚአብሔር ተኪሎቶሙ ዳግመ ።
They also, if they don’t continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.
11:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ εἰ γὰρ σὺ ἐκ τῆς κατὰ φύσιν ἐξεκόπης ἀγριελαίου καὶ παρὰ φύσιν ἐνεκεντρίσθης εἰς καλλιέλαιον , πόσῳ μᾶλλον οὗτοι οἱ κατὰ φύσιν ἐνκεντρισθήσονται τῇ ἰδίᾳ ἐλαίᾳ .
Nam si tu ex naturali excisus es oleastro , et contra naturam insertus es in bonam olivam : quanto magis ii qui secundum naturam inserentur suae olivae ?
ኪያከ ጥቀ አውልዐ ገዳም ገዘመከ እምፍጥረትከ ወተከለከ ውስተ ዘኢኮነ ፍጥረትከ ውስተ ሠናይ ዘይት እፎ እንከ ፈድፋደ ሎሙ ይክል ተኪሎቶሙ ውስተ ፍጥረቶሙ እለ ዘይት እሙንቱ ቀዳሚሆሙ ።
For if you were cut out of that which is by nature a wild olive tree, and were grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree, how much more will these, which are the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?
11:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ Οὐ γὰρ θέλω ὑμᾶς ἀγνοεῖν , ἀδελφοί , τὸ μυστήριον τοῦτο , ἵνα μὴ ἦτε παρ’ ἑαυτοῖς φρόνιμοι , ὅτι πώρωσις ἀπὸ μέρους τῷ Ἰσραὴλ γέγονεν ἄχρις οὗ τὸ πλήρωμα τῶν ἐθνῶν εἰσέλθῃ ,
Nolo enim vos ignorare , fratres , mysterium hoc (ut non sitis vobis ipsis sapientes ), quia caecitas ex parte contigit in Israël , donec plenitudo gentium intraret ,
ወእፈቅድ ለክሙ አኀዊነ ታእምሩ ዘንተ ምክረ ከመ ኢትበሉ ጠቢባን ንሕነ እስመ ዑረተ ልብ ረከቦሙ ለእስራኤል መክፈልቶሙ እስከ አመ ይበውኡ ኵሉ አሕዛብ ።
For I don’t desire you to be ignorant, brothers, of this mystery, so that you won’t be wise in your own conceits, that a partial hardening has happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in,
11:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ οὕτως πᾶς Ἰσραὴλ σωθήσεται · καθὼς γέγραπται , ἥξει ἐκ Σιὼν ὁ ῥυόμενος , ἀποστρέψει ἀσεβείας ἀπὸ Ἰακώβ ·
et sic omnis Israël salvus fieret , sicut scriptum est : Veniet ex Sion , qui eripiat , et avertat impietatem a Jacob .
ወእምዝ የሐይዉ ኵሉ እስራኤል በከመ ይቤ መጽሐፍ «እምጽዮን ይወፅእ መድኅን ወያአትት ኀጢአተ እምያዕቆብ ።
and so all Israel will be saved. Even as it is written, “There will come out of Zion the Deliverer, and he will turn away ungodliness from Jacob.
11:27 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ αὕτη αὐτοῖς ἡ παρ’ ἐμοῦ διαθήκη , ὅταν ἀφέλωμαι τὰς ἁμαρτίας αὐτῶν .
Et hoc illis a me testamentum : cum abstulero peccata eorum .
ወቦቱ ይረክቡ ተስፋሆሙ አመ አእተትኩ ሎሙ ኀጢአቶሙ ።»
This is my covenant with them, when I will take away their sins.”
11:28 ⧉ ⤴︎ κατὰ μὲν τὸ εὐαγγέλιον ἐχθροὶ δι’ ὑμᾶς , κατὰ δὲ τὴν ἐκλογὴν ἀγαπητοὶ διὰ τοὺς πατέρας ·
Secundum Evangelium quidem , inimici propter vos : secundum electionem autem , carissimi propter patres .
እመንገለ ወንጌልሰ ፀርነ እሙንቱ በእንቲኣክሙ ወእመንገለ ኅሬሰ አኀዊነ እሙንቱ በእንተ አበዊነ ።
Concerning the Good News, they are enemies for your sake. But concerning the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sake.
11:29 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀμεταμέλητα γὰρ τὰ χαρίσματα καὶ ἡ κλῆσις τοῦ θεοῦ .
Sine poenitentia enim sunt dona et vocatio Dei .
እስመ አልቦ ንስሓ በጸጋ እግዚአብሔር ።
For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.
11:30 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὥσπερ γὰρ ὑμεῖς ποτε ἠπειθήσατε τῷ θεῷ , νῦν δὲ ἠλεήθητε τῇ τούτων ἀπειθείᾳ ,
Sicut enim aliquando et vos non credidistis Deo , nunc autem misericordiam consecuti estis propter incredulitatem illorum :
በከመ አንትሙ ቀዲሙ ዐለውክምዎ ለእግዚአብሔር ወይእዜሰ ተሣሀለክሙ እሙንቱሂ ዐለውዎ በከመ አንትሙ ።
For as you in time past were disobedient to God, but now have obtained mercy by their disobedience,
11:31 ⧉ ⤴︎ οὕτως καὶ οὗτοι νῦν ἠπείθησαν τῷ ὑμετέρῳ ἐλέει ἵνα καὶ αὐτοὶ νῦν ἐλεηθῶσιν ·
ita et isti nunc non crediderunt in vestram misericordiam : ut et ipsi misericordiam consequantur .
ከማሁ እሙንቱሂ ዐለውዎ ይእዜ ከመ ሎሙኒ ይሣሀሎሙ ።
even so these also have now been disobedient, that by the mercy shown to you they may also obtain mercy.
11:32 ⧉ ⤴︎ συνέκλεισεν γὰρ ὁ θεὸς τοὺς πάντας εἰς ἀπείθειαν ἵνα τοὺς πάντας ἐλεήσῃ .
Conclusit enim Deus omnia in incredulitate , ut omnium misereatur .
እስመ እግዚአብሔር ዘግሖ ለኵሉ ውስተ ኀጢአት ከመ ይሣሀሎ ለኵሉ ።
For God has bound all to disobedience, that he might have mercy on all.
11:33 ⧉ ⤴︎ Ὦ βάθος πλούτου καὶ σοφίας καὶ γνώσεως θεοῦ · ὡς ἀνεξεραύνητα τὰ κρίματα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀνεξιχνίαστοι αἱ ὁδοὶ αὐτοῦ .
O altitudo divitiarum sapientiae , et scientiae Dei : quam incomprehensibilia sunt judicia ejus , et investigabiles viae ejus !
ኦ ዕመቂሁ ለብዕለ ጥበቢሁ ወአእምሮቱ ለእግዚአብሔር ወአልቦ አሠር ለፍኖቱ ወአልቦ ዘየአምሮ ለፍትሑ ።
Oh the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past tracing out!
11:34 ⧉ ⤴︎ τίς γὰρ ἔγνω νοῦν κυρίου ; ἢ τίς σύμβουλος αὐτοῦ ἐγένετο ;
Quis enim cognovit sensum Domini ? aut quis consiliarius ejus fuit ?
ወመኑ የአምር ኅሊናሁ ለእግዚአብሔር ወመኑ ተማከሮ ።
“For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?”
11:35 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἢ τίς προέδωκεν αὐτῷ , καὶ ἀνταποδοθήσεται αὐτῷ ;
aut quis prior dedit illi , et retribuetur ei ?
ወመኑ ለቅሖ ወተፈድዮ ።
“Or who has first given to him, and it will be repaid to him again?”
11:36 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὅτι ἐξ αὐτοῦ καὶ δι’ αὐτοῦ καὶ εἰς αὐτὸν τὰ πάντα · αὐτῷ ἡ δόξα εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας · ἀμήν .
Quoniam ex ipso , et per ipsum , et in ipso sunt omnia : ipsi gloria in saecula . Amen .
እስመ ኵሉ እምኔሁ ወኵሉ በእንቲኣሁ ወኵሉ ቦቱ ወሎቱ ስብሐት ለዓለመ ዓለም አሜን ።
For of him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory for ever! Amen.
