30:1
ὁ ἀγαπῶν τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ ἐνδελεχήσει μάστιγας αὐτῷ ἵνα εὐφρανθῇ ἐπ’ ἐσχάτων αὐτοῦ
Qui diligit filium suum assiduat illi flagella, ut lætetur in novissimo suo, et non palpet proximorum ostia.
ዘያፈቅር፡ ወልዶ፡ ኢያጸብእ፡ ተግሣጸ፡ ከመ፡ ይትፈሣሕ፡ ቦቱ፡ በደኃሪቱ።
He that loves his son will continue to lay stripes upon him, That he may have joy of him in the end.
30:2
ὁ παιδεύων τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ ὀνήσεται ἐπ’ αὐτῷ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον γνωρίμων ἐπ’ αὐτῷ καυχήσεται
Qui docet filium suum laudabitur in illo, et in medio domesticorum in illo gloriabitur.
ዘመሀሮ፡ ለወልዱ፡ ይንእድዎ፡ ቦቱ፡ ወይከውኖ፡ ምክሑ፡ በኀበ፡ ማኅፈሩ።
He that chastises his son shall have profit of him, And shall glory of him among his acquaintance.
30:3
ὁ διδάσκων τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ παραζηλώσει τὸν ἐχθρὸν καὶ ἔναντι φίλων ἐπ’ αὐτῷ ἀγαλλιάσεται
Qui docet filium suum in zelum mittit inimicum, et in medio amicorum gloriabitur in illo.
ዘመሀሮ፡ ለወልዱ፡ ያቀንኦ፡ ለጸላኢሁ፡ ወይትፌሣሕ፡ ቦቱ፡ በኀበ፡ አዕርክቲሁ።
He that teaches his son shall provoke his enemy to jealousy; And before friends he shall rejoice of him.
30:4
ἐτελεύτησεν αὐτοῦ ὁ πατήρ καὶ ὧς οὐκ ἀπέθανεν ὅμοιον γὰρ αὐτῷ κατέλιπεν μετ’ αὐτόν
Mortuus est pater ejus, et quasi non est mortuus : similem enim reliquit sibi post se.
እመኒ፡ ሞተ፡ አቡሁ፡ ከመ፡ ዘኢሞተ፡ እስመ፡ ኀደገ፡ ድኅሬሁ፡ ዘከማሁ።
His father dieth, and is as though he had not died; For he has left one behind him like himself.
30:5
ἐν τῇ ζωῇ αὐτοῦ εἶδεν καὶ εὐφράνθη καὶ ἐν τῇ τελευτῇ αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἐλυπήθη
In vita sua vidit, et lætatus est in illo : in obitu suo non est contristatus, nec confusus est coram inimicis :
ወእንዘ፡ ሕያው፡ ውእቱ፡ ተፈሥሐ፡ በወልዱ፡ ወእመኒ፡ ይመውት፡ ኢያሐምሞ፡ ልቡ።
In his life, he saw and rejoiced in him; And when he died, he sorrowed not:
30:6
ἐναντίον ἐχθρῶν κατέλιπεν ἔκδικον καὶ τοῖς φίλοις ἀνταποδιδόντα χάριν
reliquit enim defensorem domus contra inimicos, et amicis reddentem gratiam.
እስመ፡ ኀደረ፡ ድኅሬሁ፡ ዘይትቤቀሎሙ፡ ለጸላእቱ፡ ወዘየዐስዮሙ፡ ለአዕርክቲሁ።
He left behind him an avenger against his enemies, And one to requite kindness to his friends.
30:7
περιψύχων υἱὸν καταδεσμεύσει τραύματα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ πάσῃ βοῇ ταραχθήσεται σπλάγχνα αὐτοῦ
Pro animabus filiorum colligabit vulnera sua, et super omnem vocem turbabuntur viscera ejus.
እንበይነ፡ ነፍሰ፡ ውሉድከ፡ ፅምም፡ ልበከ፡ እስመ፡ እምነ፡ ብካዮሙ፡ ይትመሰወከ፡ አማዑቲከ።
He that makes too much of his son shall bind up his wounds; And his heart will be troubled at every cry.
30:8
ἵππος ἀδάμαστος ἐκβαίνει σκληρός καὶ υἱὸς ἀνειμένος ἐκβαίνει προαλής
Equus indomitus evadit durus, et filius remissus evadet præceps.
ፈረስ፡ ዘኢተረየፀ፡ ይወፅእ፡ እኩየ፡ ወልድ፡ ዘኢተገሠጸ፡ ይወፅእ፡ ዝሉፈ።
An unbroken horse becomes stubborn; And a son left at large becomes headstrong.
30:9
τιθήνησον τέκνον καὶ ἐκθαμβήσει σε σύμπαιξον αὐτῷ καὶ λυπήσει σε
Lacta filium, et paventem te faciet : lude cum eo, et contristabit te.
እምከመ፡ አስተማዛኅኮ፡ ለወልድከ፡ ይገብእ፡ ይትኀየልከ፡ እምከመ፡ ተዋነይከ፡ ምስሌሁ፡ ይገብእ፡ ያሕምምከ።
Cocker your child, and he shall make you afraid: Play with him, and he will grieve you.
30:10
μὴ συγγελάσῃς αὐτῷ ἵνα μὴ συνοδυνηθῇς καὶ ἐπ’ ἐσχάτων γομφιάσεις τοὺς ὀδόντας σου
Non corrideas illi, ne doleas, et in novissimo obstupescent dentes tui.
ኢትሥሐቅ፡ ሎቱ፡ ከመ፡ ኢያሕዝንከ፡ ወአመ፡ ደኃሪትከ፡ ያፀርሰከ፡ አስናኒከ።
Laugh not with him, lest you have sorrow with him; And you shall gnash your teeth in the end.
30:11
μὴ δῷς αὐτῷ ἐξουσίαν ἐν νεότητι
Non des illi potestatem in juventute, et ne despicias cogitatus illius.
ኢ[ታ]ኰንኖ፡ ለወልድከ፡ በውርዝቱ።
Give him no liberty in his youth, And wink not at his follies.
30:12
θλάσον τὰς πλευρὰς αὐτοῦ ὡς ἔστιν νήπιος μήποτε σκληρυνθεὶς ἀπειθήσῃ σοι
Curva cervicem ejus in juventute, et tunde latera ejus dum infans est, ne forte induret, et non credat tibi, et erit tibi dolor animæ.
እምንእሱ፡ አጸንጵዎ፡ አዕፅምተ፡ ገበዋቲሁ፡ ከመ፡ እምከመ፡ ጸንዐ፡ ኢይዕሉከ።
Bow down his neck in his youth, And beat him on the sides while he is a child, Lest he wax stubborn, and be disobedient to you; And there shall be sorrow to your soul.
30:13
παίδευσον τὸν υἱόν σου καὶ ἔργασαι ἐν αὐτῷ ἵνα μὴ ἐν τῇ ἀσχημοσύνῃ αὐτοῦ προσκόψῃς
Doce filium tuum, et operare in illo, ne in turpitudinem illius offendas.
መሀሮ፡ ለወልድከ፡ ወያሰልጠከ፡ ከመ፡ ኢትኅፈር፡ በሙስና፡ ዚአሁ።
Chastise your son, and take pains with him, Lest his shameless behavior be an offence to you.
30:14
κρείσσων πτωχὸς ὑγιὴς καὶ ἰσχύων τῇ ἕξει ἢ πλούσιος μεμαστιγωμένος εἰς σῶμα αὐτοῦ
Melior est pauper sanus, et fortis viribus, quam dives imbecillis et flagellatus malitia.
ይኄይስ፡ ነዳይ፡ ጥዑይ፡ ውእቱ፡ ወፍቱሕ፡ ነፍሱ፡ እምነ፡ ባዕል፡ ዘድውይ፡ ሥጋሁ፡ ወእሱር፡ ነፍሱ።
Better is a poor man, being sound and strong of constitution, Than a rich man that is plagued in his body.
30:15
ὑγίεια καὶ εὐεξία βελτίων παντὸς χρυσίου καὶ σῶμα εὔρωστον ἢ ὄλβος ἀμέτρητος
Salus animæ in sanctitate justitiæ melior est omni auro et argento : et corpus validum quam census immensus.
ጥዑየ፡ ይኩን፡ ሥጋከ፡ ወፍቱሐ፡ ይኩን፡ ነፍስከ፡ ወዝእምኵሉ፡ ብዕል፡ ይኄይስ፡ ወእምኵሉ፡ ብዕል፡ ወንዋይ፡ ይኄይስ፡ ጥዕዮ፡ ነፍስ።
Health and a good constitution are better than all gold; And a strong body than wealth without measure.
30:16
οὐκ ἔστιν πλοῦτος βελτίων ὑγιείας σώματος καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν εὐφροσύνη ὑπὲρ χαρὰν καρδίας
Non est census super censum salutis corporis, et non est oblectamentum super cordis gaudium.
ኢይትበደር፡ ብዕል፡ እምነቢረ፡ ጥዑይ፡ አልቦ፡ ትፍሥሕት፡ ዘይኄይስ፡ እምሐሤተ፡ ልብ።
There is no riches better than health of body; And there is no gladness above the joy of the heart.
30:17
κρείσσων θάνατος ὑπὲρ ζωὴν πικρὰν καὶ ἀνάπαυσις αἰῶνος ἢ ἀρρώστημα ἔμμονον
Melior est mors quam vita amara, et requies æterna quam languor perseverans.
ይኄይስ፡ መዊት፡ እመራር፡ ሕይወት፡ ወእምነ፡ ደዌ፡ ሲሕ።
Death is better than a bitter life, And eternal rest than a continual sickness.
30:18
ἀγαθὰ ἐκκεχυμένα ἐπὶ στόματι κεκλεισμένῳ θέματα βρωμάτων παρακείμενα ἐπὶ τάφῳ
Bona abscondita in ore clauso, quasi appositiones epularum circumpositæ sepulchro.
ከመ፡ ሥሩፅ፡ መብልዕ፡ ውስተ፡ አፍ፡ ፍፁም፡ ከማሁ፡ ዘያወፍር፡ እክለ፡ ውስተ፡ መቃብር።
Good things poured out upon a mouth that is closed Are as messes of meat laid upon a grave.
30:19
τί συμφέρει κάρπωσις εἰδώλῳ οὔτε γὰρ ἔδεται οὔτε μὴ ὀσφρανθῇ οὕτως ὁ ἐκδιωκόμενος ὑπὸ κυρίου
Quid proderit libatio idolo ? nec enim manducabit, nec odorabit.
ምንተ፡ ይበቊዕ፡ ሠዊዕ፡ ለአማልክት፡ ኢእሙንቱ፡ ያጼንው፡ ከማሁ፡ ዘእግዚአብሔር፡ ቀሠፎ።
What does an offering profit an idol? For neither shall it eat nor smell: So is he that is afflicted of the Lord,
30:20
βλέπων ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς καὶ στενάζων ὥσπερ εὐνοῦχος περιλαμβάνων παρθένον καὶ στενάζων
Sic qui effugatur a Domino, portans mercedes iniquitatis :
ይሬኢ፡ በአዕይንቲሁ፡ ወያሐምም፡ ልቦ፡ ከመ፡ ኅጽው፡ ሶበ፡ የሐቅፋ፡ ለድንግል፡ ወይቴክዝ።
Seeing with his eyes and groaning, As an eunuch embracing a virgin and groaning.
30:21
μὴ δῷς εἰς λύπην τὴν ψυχήν σου καὶ μὴ θλίψῃς σεαυτὸν ἐν βουλῇ σου
videns oculis et ingemiscens, sicut spado complectens virginem, et suspirans.
ኢታሕዝን፡ ነፍሰከ፡ ወኢታጥቅልበከ።
Give not over your soul to sorrow; And afflict not yourself in your own counsel.
30:22
εὐφροσύνη καρδίας ζωὴ ἀνθρώπου καὶ ἀγαλλίαμα ἀνδρὸς μακροημέρευσις
Tristitiam non des animæ tuæ, et non affligas temetipsum in consilio tuo.
ትፍሥሕቱ፡ ለልብ፡ ሕይወቱ፡ ለሰብእ፡ ወሐሤተ፡ ነፍስ፡ ያነውኅ፡ መዋዕለ።
Gladness of heart is the life of a man; And the joyfulness of a man is length of days.
30:23
ἀπάτα τὴν ψυχήν σου καὶ παρακάλει τὴν καρδίαν σου καὶ λύπην μακρὰν ἀπόστησον ἀπὸ σοῦ πολλοὺς γὰρ ἀπώλεσεν ἡ λύπη καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ὠφέλεια ἐν αὐτῇ
Jucunditas cordis, hæc est vita hominis, et thesaurus sine defectione sanctitatis : et exsultatio viri est longævitas.
የውሃ፡ ለነፍስከ፡ ወናዝዛ፡ ለልብከ፡ ከመ፡ ታውፅእ፡ ሐዘነ፡ እምላዕሌከ። እስመ፡ ለብዙኃን፡ ቀተሎሙ፡ ሐዘን፡ ወአልባቲ፡ ዘትበቊዕ፡ ሐዘን።
Love your own soul, and comfort your heart: And remove sorrow far from you; For sorrow has destroyed many, And there is no profit therein.
30:24
ζῆλος καὶ θυμὸς ἐλαττοῦσιν ἡμέρας καὶ πρὸ καιροῦ γῆρας ἄγει μέριμνα
Miserere animæ tuæ placens Deo, et contine : congrega cor tuum in sanctitate ejus, et tristitiam longe repelle a te.
ቅንአት፡ ወመዐት፡ ያውኅዱ፡ መዋዕለ፡ ሕይወት፡ ወእንበለ፡ ይብጻሕ፡ ጊዜሁ፡ ያረሥእ፡ ትካዝ።
Envy and wrath shorten a man’s days; And care brings old age before the time.
30:25
λαμπρὰ καρδία καὶ ἀγαθὴ ἐπὶ ἐδέσμασιν τῶν βρωμάτων αὐτῆς ἐπιμελήσεται
Multos enim occidit tristitia, et non est utilitas in illa.
ከመ፡ ዘየአሪ፡ ድኅረ፡ ዘይቀሥም፡ በበረከቱ፡ ለእግዘአብሔር፡ በጻሕኩ፡ ከመ፡ ማእረረ፡ ወይን፡ መላእኩ፡ ምክያድየ።
A cheerful and good heart Will have a care of his meat and diet.
